The adaptability of children to the school environment and their potential to succeed there is closely linked to the development of their cognitive and social skills. These are primarily linked to personal factors -physical maturity as well as mental or emotional maturity and the environment in which those children grow up. This fact is evident in children growing up in disadvantageous socio-economic conditions. In general the school readiness of children from socially-disadvantaged backgrounds is affected by the specific environment, the primary family and a number of other factors. A significant support of psychosocial development and successful adaptability at the start of the compulsory education is the preschool education, especially for children growing up in disadvantageous socio-economic conditions. The presented study focused on the effect of pre-school education on school readiness in first grade children. 24 children from socially disadvantaged environment were tested twice - for first time shortly after the beginning of their first grade and for the second time before the end of the first grade. The children were then divided into two groups - those who attended pre-school education and those who started school without any pre-school education programme. The attendance thus made the independent variable in the research design. There were three research questions - what is the impact of pre-school education on: Q1: general cognitive functioning (tested using the Intelligence Image Scale), Q2: on the ability to acquire the reading skills (tested using the Reversal test by Edfeldt) and Q3 on the social maturity of the children (tested using the Vineland scale of adaptive behaviour) The results of the study suggest that pre-school education has significant effect on social skills and this effect increases during the first year. The reading skills were better in children who attended the pre-school education however this impact decreases over time. There was no statistically significant difference between cognitive functioning in both groups of children. No negative effects of pre-school education were identified. The results are in partial contradiction to other research and literature - specifically the outcome in cognitive functioning was unexpected. This can be attributed to limited number of participants. However we suppose that the results support the importance of pre-school education. Its impact could be further studied using longitudinal studies as well as focusing in more detail on the individual aspects of social exclusion and its effects on school readiness.

PROKOP, Daniel. Dynamika sociálního vyloučení v České republice: Nerovné šance ve vzdělávání. Praha, 2022. 124 s. Disertační práce (Ph.D.) Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut sociologických studií. Katedra sociologie. Školitel: doc. Milan Tuček Abstract This cumulative thesis contains three papers focused on analysis of inequality of educational opportunity (IOE) and limited educational and social mobility in the Czech Republic. The first article analysis effects of parent's cultural, social, economic and human capital in different educational transitions. In accordance with the theory of effectively maintained inequality (EMI), the parental capitals and social status play the biggest role in accessing secondary education with GCE (high school with diploma) which is precondition to tertiary education. However, detailed analysis shows that poverty and low skills (HC) of parents have biggest effect in early phases of education whereas social, cultural capital and wealth of the parents are drivers of inequality in later transitions. Hence, the EMI theory is not in conflict with life course perspective assuming significant and waning effects of (some) parental capitals. The second paper analyses the relationship between inadequate housing and the school performance of children from poor Czech...

This thesis addresses preschool education in the COVID-19 pandemic from a speech therapy perspective. The aim was to determine whether the pandemic affects the development of communication skills in children's school maturity and readiness. For the research, a quantitative method was used. A sample of 50 respondents from kindergartens in the Vysočina region completed a self-administered questionnaire to provide data for this work. The research sample was teachers of children with compulsory school attendance. The research found that the number of deferrals of compulsory school attendance is higher in the school year 2020/2021 than in previous years. The root causes cited by the respondents were psychological immaturity, including impaired communication skills. It was also found that for more than half of the respondents, children in the classroom have the same difficulties in communication skills as in previous years, yet 92% of teachers admitted that the educational objectives in the field of communication, according to the Framework Education Programme for Preschool Education, were not met in the 2020/2021 school year. According to the respondents, children most often had difficulties pronouncing the L, R, and Ř syllables, spontaneous narration according to a picture, the formation of sentences,...

This bachelor work deals with the phenomenon called a free play. In the theoretical part of the bachelor work there are described the perspectives of famous theoreticians on the play, the gradual development of the play by preschool child and further the benefits of the play for his complex development. The conclusion of the theoretical part deals with a free play, its specifications and its sense for preschool education. The aim of the bachelor work is to monitor what space reality for a free play in different nursery schools there is and what attitude towards the play the nursery school pedagogues adopt. In the practical part the method of observation of children was used for the research, but not only in a free play but also all day long during their stay in the nursery school. The data acquisition of individual pedagogues´ attitudes to a free play was made in the form of interviews. From the results of the observations and interviews it is obvious that the space for a free play is mainly influenced by the total time of the children´s stay in nursery schools, but even by the pedagogues´ abilities to arrange the daily routine in such a way that the free play is more included. From the research further follows that the space, which is determined for the play, depends on the children´s age.

- Abstract
The children were then divided into two groups - those who attended pre-school education and those who started school without any preschool education programme. The attendance thus made the independent variable in the research design. There were three research questions - what is the impact of pre-school education on: Q1: general cognitive functioning (tested using the Intelligence Image Scale), Q2: on the ability to acquire the reading skills (tested using the Reversal test by Edfeldt) and Q3 on the social maturity of the children (tested using the Vineland scale of adaptive behaviour). The results of the study suggest that pre-school education has significant effect on social skills and this effect increases during the first year.
