This thesis deals with the topic of processing and popularization of science, namely the field of cosmonautics within the context of the Czech audiovisual media. The first aim of the thesis is to critically analyze the content of selected episodes broadcasted on a science-popular program within the course of the years of 2021-2022. The second aim is to evaluate the use of popularization elements within the selected episodes through an application of suitable comparative methods. The dissertation is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part of the work, a research was conducted based on Czech and foreign professional literature, with the aim of mapping and describing different approaches to the popularization of science in the media. This has been done by defining the terms science, mass media, scientific journalism and popularization of science within this context. An extensive part of the research is organized in a chronological fashion, encompassing the development and evolution of Czech scientific journalism, with its beginnings in the second half of the 19th century to the present day. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether the media image of Petr Kellner differed in the main news of public television Česká Televize compared to TV Nova which was owned by the businessman and then by his heirs. The thesis starts with a description of Kellner's life, business and his family. It also details his death in a helicopter crash in Alaska. Then it continues with the research. For this, both a quantitative analysis of the coverage of Kellner on both two TV stations and a qualitative framing method were used. The research showed that Nova television devoted almost twice as much airtime to inform about Kellner compared to Česká Televize. It also mentioned Kellner's philanthropic activities more often.

The diploma thesis entitled The manifestations of technological determinism on the selection of news topics in ČT24 and ČRo Radiožurnál seeks an answer whether the choice of news topics in TV and radio is influenced by the available technologies in each of the media, and whether they eventually choose different events to cover. The theoretical part describes concepts of gatekeeping, news values and also technological determinism. In the practical part then the author analysed three days in broadcast of the chosen media, in each it was two-hour segments around the main news at noon and in the evening. Selected topics, that ČT24 had and Radiožurnál did not, have been later analysed by semiotic analyses in order to find whether the visuals were the factor why the event was not presented by the radio. Context of the findings were given by six semi-structured interviews with journalists form both radio and television. From all the data obtained, it is evident that the television had dozens of topics more per day, caused by the time space given to the news reporting. Unlike Český rozhlas Radiožurnál, ČT24 focused significantly on the visual side of events, which could be the reason why editorial board may reject a topic proposed by the reporters.

This diploma thesis deals with the formation of hatred towards the participants of the reality TV shows MasterChef Czechia and Married at First Sight. Specifically, the focus is on whether the shows and the participants in them have the potential to evoke this emotion among their viewers. The theoretical part deals with the relationship between television and the Internet environment, where this emotion can be subsequently stirred up within groups on discussion forums or social networks. It also defines the genre of reality TV into which are the TV shows included, and in the end defines hatred and other emotions that are closely related to it. Based on the findings from the literature, the characteristics that can potentially lead to the emotion under discussion are then identified. These traits are central to the subsequent determination of the research questions. In the research part, one particular series at a time (both were broadcast during 2020) is then qualitatively analysed for both TV shows, also there is the portrayal of all their main participants, with a particular focus on finding defined traits with the potential to provoke hatred. The thesis Sexual Harassment in the Media on the Example of American Television Fox News aims to describe the sexual harassment affair in the American television company Fox News and compare it with similar cases in other American media organizations. The 2016 case led to the dismissal of Roger Ailes, the company's longtime director, and set off a wave of accusations of sexual harassment in other media, leading to the discrediting of several moderators and prominent figures in the American media. The main goal is to find out whether sexual harassment is a known, systemic phenomenon in America or not. Sexual harassment is also associated with the world-wide anti-sexual harassment movement Me Too, which emerged shortly after the Ailes scandal broke out. Therefore, I want to refute or confirm the hypothesis whether most cases of sexual harassment in the media began to appear only after Me Too became a world-famous movement. The main research method is a search of selected media, such as the New York Times, which has dealt extensively with the case. One of the main results should also be to find out whether harassment has always led to the release of the culprit and whether the victims have received apology or compensation from the media.

This diploma thesis tackles selected series of Czechoslovak Television from the normalization era. Series are examined on the basis of predefined categories. In this work, the author focuses on the everyday life of the main characters. We can classify the categories into two types - the personal and professional lives of the main characters are mainly examined. During the period of normalization, television viewers were exposed to everyday propaganda, which also became part of television production. In drama gendre, the protagonists of the series were to present patterns of behavior for the average socialist citizen. For this research were selected following series from normalization era: Muž na radnici (1976), Žena za pultem (1977), Nemocnice na kraji města (1978 and 1981) and Iženýrská odysea (1979). The topic of the thesis is a comparison of Czech public and commercial sports television in the presentation on social networks. The thesis aims to map the current state of social network management of domestic sports televisions, their ambitions and strategies in this dynamically expanding segment. In the diploma thesis, social networks are placed in the context of the use of their potential in the field of sports marketing and their historical development. The main part of the work is focused on defining the correct hypotheses on the basis of which quantitative research is carried out on the Facebook social network. The hypotheses are divided into three main thematic blocks, the quantity of published contributions of individual televisions, their format and thematic focus depending on the telecast of a prominent sporting event are examined in turn. In the next part, the collected data is subjected to analysis. The bachelor thesis entitled "The depiction of Czechoslovakia in the years 1989 - 1990 through the eyes of viewers in the television series Vyprávěj" deals with the question of how the perception of the portrayal of a particular stage of contemporary history (the November Revolution of 1989 and the social events of the early 1990s) in the series differs between two different groups of viewers, the memorials and the non-memorials. The thesis consists of pilot research conducted with two respondents, each representing one of the two audience groups. Their experience of watching and perceiving the series is explored through a semi-structured interview method with predetermined thematic headings. On a theoretical level, the thesis explores how the format of the series: the memory medium, utilizes concepts of nostalgia along with cultural and communicative memory, while considering account the specificities of post-television audiences. Furthermore it describes the relation between memory and history, as well as presenting the specific importance of the period 1989-1990 in modern Czechoslovak and Czech history. Title: The popularity of ČT sport in comparison with to other television stations Objectives: The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out and describe the popularity of the sports station ČT sport in comparison with other television stations. Thesis is aimed at establishing the popularity of this television station of viewers through a questionnaire survey. At the end of the thesis, based on the research, mention possible recommendations. Methods: The marketing research of this thesis has consisted in the use of a quantitative method. The goal of this magister thesis is to find out how much the current appearance of the genre of the "television news reportage" corresponds with theory. It also compares how much, if at all, it differentiates between the two main Czech news television channels - ČT24 and CNN Prima NEWS. The theoretical part describes the historical development of the genre, its current form according to theories and the "ideal" work methods of reporters. The practical part does not follow these problematics by the traditional way of content analysis, however - it instead tries to approach it "from the inside", through the optics of active journalists. Using grounded theory, it examines a sample comprising of six journalists, three from each media outlet. The target is to find out whether their view of the "reportage" genre corresponds with theory and whether or not they know about eventual connections. Using questions like "what makes a good 'reportage' in your opinion" or "what does your usual workday look like", it does not only confront theory with reality. It also compares the two media outlets in between one another. It mostly focuses on the experiences of chosen reporters during the parliamentary election of 2021.

In addition to the health risks, the covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the normal way of life and all its parts. It threatened the sense of ontological security that allows individuals to trust in the permanence of themselves and their environment. This feeling is an integral part of life in modern society and is reinforced by many factors, including television and its content, for example in the form of television series. This thesis explores the ways in which regular viewers of selected Czech television series and soap operas used their viewing as a source of reassurance and security in a time characterised by the disruption of the familiar and the creation of uncertainty. The first part of the thesis introduces key theoretical frameworks, including ontological security, everyday life, cultural studies and Roger Silverstone's work on understanding television as a source of ontological security. The second part of the thesis presents the methodology of the conducted qualitative research, which consisted of in-depth interviews with regular viewers of selected Czech television series and soap operas. This thesis focuses on the viewer reception of the CNN Prima NEWS news station. The aim of the research is to gain insight into the viewing patterns and routines that are repeated when watching this station. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the main studies on the topic with reference to experts and then introduces the CNN Prima NEWS station along with the viewership data. The next part of the thesis then discusses the methodology that was used for data collection and analysis in this research. The results of the thesis are obtained by using not only the viewership data but also a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews with a selected sample of respondents who watch the station. This research was conducted with the respondents in the spring of 2022. The data collected during the research is then analysed and categorized to make the thesis as close to its objective as possible. Several findings have emerged that provide a better understanding of how Czech viewers perceive CNN Prima NEWS. The thesis also includes appendices with the results of the questionnaire survey and transcripts of semi-structured interviews.

This thesis is investigating the question of how and why there was a change in a viewership of the internet television Mall.tv during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic in spring 2020. While looking for an answer for this work, a quantitative analysis of internal data provided by Mall.tv is used. This all is processed with the help of statistical methods. Simultaneously, this work is testing the hypothesis, according to which the audience show #kulturažije could be the key factor influencing the transformation of the size and socio demographic composition. From the results of the analysis, it is clear that the audience was not changed during the spring and that major changes are visible after the spring wave. The hypothesis, which states that the show #kulturažije was supposed to bring more new users to the website, was not confirmed but it was found that impact of the project was rather marginal.

The diploma thesis introduces the media image of Korean Peninsula within the news of Czech Television from 2015 to 2020. Korean Peninsula is an incredibly interesting area in terms of history, politics, economics, culture and international relations, including relations between the two Koreas and the Czech Republic. Czech Television was chosen to depict the two state units existing on the Korean Peninsula, which should - due to its specific position as a public service medium - provide viewers objective and impartial news. The theoretical part introduces the basic concepts and theories, focusing on the media public service broadcasting, media construction of reality, gatekeeping and agenda-setting. Considerable attention is also given to Czech Television itself and the Korean Peninsula, where among the other things, the key historical moments of this region are briefly explained and the media environment of both Koreas is overviewed closely. The diploma thesis on the topic Changes in the programming scheme of the ČT 2 channel after the amendment to the Czech Television Act of 2011 examines whether this television channel was commercialized after the law changed the rules for placing advertisements and advertising messages on public service television channels. The ČT 2 channel was conceived as an alternative channel intended for a more demanding audience. From the logic of its focus, such a channel does not aim at high viewership. Nevertheless, the amendment to the law designated it for the sale of advertising time as the only full-format channel of Czech Television. The search provided a wealth of information regarding television broadcasting by law and the effects it has on public service television. The master thesis is dealing with crime series Malý pitaval z velkého města a Případy 1. oddělení, their analysis and their mutual comparison. It is focused mainly on the plot construction, choice of illustrated criminal offenses, representation of criminalist's work, and characteristics of the environment and main characters. The aim is also to get to know how Czechoslovakian and Czech crime series have changed over the years. It explores a reaction of chosen media around the premiere of the series and audience reviews on the internet website csfd.cz. In case of Malý pitaval z velkého města it focuses on media reaction during the reruns after the year 2000. The theoretical part introduces the main principles of television, mainly seriality, television crime drama as a genre, and summarizes the development of television series in the Czech environment and the formation of crimes series.

This diploma thesis explores the theory of possible worlds and its relation to broadcast during the coronavirus pandemic. It perceives news, especially broadcast, as a possible world. Using narrative analysis, this thesis describes the characteristics of two possible worlds that arose during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic on Czech Television and television Prima. The main goal of this research is to examine what kind of possible worlds have these two TV stations constructed in their main news programs and to point out how these two possible worlds differed. My diploma thesis should primarily contribute to a clear comparison of how the depiction of the coronavirus pandemic differed by individual television channels in the first half of 2020.

The portrayal of law in television programs on the example of the series Judge Barbara Dominika Muschaliková Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the depiction of law and lawyers in Czech serial production on the example of the TV show Judge Barbara. It analysis means the creators use to capture the judicial environment and the impressions of the judicial environment viewers get from the show. It also compares this depiction with reality and evaluates the educational potential of the show. The second part seeks to answer the question of whether it is ethically permissible for real judges and lawyers to participate in the production of these programs, draws attention to the complexities of professional advice on television production and gives future legal advisers recommendations how to proceed when asked to partipate in such project. This paper focuses on the changes in distribution of television content which emerged during the process of convergence between television and digital media. Nowadays it is possible not only to access television broadcasting online, but also to access individual programs through Video on Demand services. The precondition this topic was picked on is that the very existence of such services has a direct impact on the form of today's television broadcasting. Therefore the aim of this paper is to examine and describe alterations which can be found not only in the broadcasting itself but also in receiving of that broadcasting on television screens. The latter can be affected by the existence of HbbTV. The analysis and description of changes in broadcasting and receiving television content in Czech republic are the primary focuses of this paper.

In the present thesis, the author aims at the issue of visual editor in television newscast. In practical part of the thesis, particular occupations of visual editors are characterized. The characteristics were conducted on the grounds of author's research in newsrooms at TV Nova and ČT 24. Furthermore, the practical part comprises comparison and description of differences among the observed occupations. It also provides analysis of visual information Události, the main news broadcast of Czech Television. Theoretical part covers issues related to the occupation of visual editor in television news broadcast such as digitalisation, computer graphics, principles of visual language in television news and characteristics of television studios at TV Nova and ČT 24.

This thesis aims to analyze stereotypes in Czech TV travel shows with a focus on the region of sub-Saharan Africa. The chosen form of research is a content analysis, divided into three parts: thematic, visual, and textual. Thematic analysis focuses on the selection of topics. Visual on how the camera processes the story and the text part analyzes the keywords. Selected programs that were used for this research are three TV travel shows of Czech production: Objektiv, Cestománie, and Koření. All three programs show that the tendency to portray sub-Saharan Africa outside of the news is rather stereotypical, and Africa's unified media presentation highlights recurring themes: political instability, poverty, or a beauty of African nature.

Primary aim of the bachelor thesis is to compare the program scheme of television ČT1, as a public service medium and TV Prima, as a commercial television and describe the methods used for the program scheme creation. This master's thesis focuses on the relationship between late night shows, a specific type of talk show popular mainly in the United States of America, and journalism. It primarily aims to reveal the details behind the convergence of these shows and journalism, find out how this convergence manifests and how significant it is. The thesis describes the history and the present of these shows, including their function as an important information source for the American public. The thesis then clarifies the influence of satire and infotainment in the American media landscape and defines some of the most important journalistic methods and genres. It deals with the concepts of investigative, explainer and constructive journalism. The thesis then examines, using both qualitative and quantitative analysis, three late night shows: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In these three case studies, methods and genres used by these shows are examined, and it is shown how they deliver information to the viewer and what kind of information it is. This bachelor thesis is focused on the environmental education in the children's shows at the public channel ČT:D. Specifically this is the shows Ty Brďo! and S Jakubem v přírodě. The main intention is the qualitative analysis of these shows and using of them in the education. To find out what these shows can offer to the children from the perspective of the media studies. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part emphasis the theory. Primarily the channel ČT:D, it's origin and evolution, program scheme, web sites and education. Besides there's summary of the Framework educational program (RPV) and the Recommended expected outputs of the environmental education (DOV). These materials are then compared with information gained by qualitative analysis. The second part of the thesis is dedicated mainly qualitative content analysis of individual parts and comparison of acquired data with the Framework educational program and the Recommended expected outputs. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to the focus group, which was carried out with eight children from the target group of analysed shows, and summary of the obtained information.

The dissertation focuses on the research of the audience and the perception of athletes with a disability, mainly Paralympians, in the Czech Television (Česká televize), which regularly broadcasts a program about disabled athletes called Paralympic Magazine. The topic also appears in other news programs (ČT24 and ČT sport). The research aims at showing the media image perception of the disabled sports by the television viewers. The theoretical level emphasises mainly the audience and athletes with a disability. What do viewers say about the presentation of disabled sports? Can we identify any differences between the presentation of athletes with and without a disability? The thesis is focused on journalistic portrait as a complete genre in the current documentary field. The theoretical part is focused on the technical elements which this type of documentary should cover. It includes preparations for the shooting, how to act at the shooting and what to be aware of. I also mentioned the importance of communication with the person so that the final portrait would be as natural as possible. At last I focused on the basic rules of editing which need to be followed. In the practical part is explained how I managed to apply the theoretical knowledge during shooting and editing of the journalistic portrait Guitars' chef. Apart from the specialized literature I also drew on my personal experience during the shooting, which I gained throughout my work in the audiovisual field.

This diploma thesis The role of a pundit in football television broadcasting focuses on television pundits, the specific and relatively undefined phenomenon of sports journalism. The first part outlines the development of pundits within the history of sports journalism in the world. The second part offers a comprehensive view of the work of sports pundits in Czech media through semi-structured in-depth interviews with experts from the field. For example, the thesis examines the importance of pundits in sports broadcasting and focuses on their work in the studio as well as in the commentary box. At the same time, it points out possible issues and sensitive topics that are connected with their role. The thesis also examines the motivation of athletes who became pundits. Its main focus is on football television broadcasting.

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to present the current situation in the Czech television market in comparison with previous years. How did the viewership of stations and also the preferences of viewers change with the expansion of the program offer, especially by thematic channels. In the first part of the thesis, the reader will learn a brief history of television, an explanation of the term medium, the definition of the media audience, and the development of stations in the Czech media market. Then the thesis describes the various methods used for research, which are quantitative analysis of data from electronic measurement of television viewing and qualitative analysis using the method Focus groups, or group interviews. The final part analyzes the results that these methods brought - that is, how and whether they changed over time in the viewer's preferences.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of the influence of media on preschool children. The aim of the thesis is to find out how preschool children are influenced by media what media they use, what programs they watch on TV, what online games they play and what other activities they use the media for. The partial goal is to find out whether parents read children's books or buy children's magazines to their children, and whether topics from the media penetrate into children's games. The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis contains chapters on the interpretation of the term medium, its history and classification. It describes the development of a preschool child and the relationship between the media and their use by preschool children. The practical part presents the results of mixed research, the methods used are an interview with preschool children and a questionnaire completed by their parents, the answers of the respondents are subsequently compared. Furthermore, the results of the control group are presented here in graphs, where the respondents are again parents of preschool children.

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the television series Holocaust and its reflection in the selected German press in the period from January 15 to February 5, 1979, when Holocaust was introduced on German television for the very first time. Because of the fact that the series confronted German viewers with a sensitive and serious topic from the near past, and was processed in a very commercial way, it caused commotion all over the world and the series became the main subject of controversial public debates. On the occasion of the premiere in Germany, local periodicals widely contributed to the discussions and published an unexpectedly large number of articles in which they discribed both general information on the storyline, the course of broadcasting or the growing viewership, and opened more serious topics about the greater meaning of the series and its effect on the public. It should be noted that in the late 1970s, when the television product was introduced, Germany was divided into two separate states: the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This thesis entitled "To Be Continued: Fictional Worlds of TV Series" is focused on television series from the perspective of narratology and the theory of fictional worlds. The thesis deals with the concept of the series and its components, with which its creators work. An important part of the thesis is the concept of the fictional world and its construction. The connection of individual episodes of the series differs. It depends on the type of seriality that is used for the series. The text works with many television series of the past and present, with which the individual types of seriality are defined. Like any narrative, the serial consists of individual narrative components, such as a story, individual events, a narrator or characters. What is the difference in series as opposed to the film is shown in examples of various specific fiction series. TV series work with the story to continue in various forms. The thesis deals with series of various genres, lengths and origins. We will also read how the events of the series can be influenced by the viewer himself. This thesis also reflects the changes in seriality today's online world. It mentions the various advantages and disadvantages that we may encounter in today's Internet.

This thesis compares two selected editions of a programme journal Czechoslovakian Television Weekly, specifically years 1989 and 1990. This journal had been issued between years 1965 and 1990 and used to be one of the main sources of a television programme of the Czechoslovakian Television, which was daily watched in many households. Except for the television programme, the journal also dealt with society-wide questions and this made it even more attractive to readers. As a result there was no shortage of readers, nor viewers of the television. Thanks to the vast popularity among readers as well as a close link to the Czechoslovakian Television, the journal was one of the tools to influence the public opinion. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the level of influence of changing political-economical- social situation in Czechoslovakia to journal editions of years 1989 and 1990. The living history TV shows (in some cases also referred to as historical reality TV shows) are one of the contemporary trends in the creation of the reality TV genre. The purpose of such programs is to display a certain historical period in a fun and light-hearted form on television. Since they are programs included in the reality TV genre, their aim is also to capture the authentic reactions of those who perform in such programs. With this narrative style, the audience can see how the 21st-century man adapts to the period and how he behaves when confronted with certain historical moments. This kind of program is very popular in foreign media. Two shows created by Czech Television appeared on Czech TV screens. This is a series of Holidays in the Old Times - contains Holidays in the Protectorate and Holidays in the Era of Steam.

Today's children and teen-agers were born and grew up in the world where the digital media are standard part of. They represent a generation called "digital natives". So-called old media, as for example television backs away to the background, but at the same time tries to keep up with the time. Television was just recently the most popular and the most watched media. But today, its influence and activity according to some researches, gives space to the new technologies. Now the young generation is the one, for whom is television in its original form the old medium. In past, row of scientists were concerned about television influence on children and teen-agers. Today, television is partially regulated by law, relating to content and the way of broadcasting. Especially then Czech television, as a public institution is also directly involved in production for children and teen-agers. In this work I am concerned about the influence of television on today's children and teen-agers along with digital evolution and changes in society, which it brought along, and also about development of Czech television in production for children and teen-agers, and its success with these viewers. There are lots of studies about normalization cinematography, its content or historical context of its creation. But there was no research about its presence in post-communist television broadcast in the Czech Republic. This work takes a look on five biggest TV channels - ČT1, ČT2, Nova, Prima and Barrandov - in eight chosen years between 1994 and 2015. Content analysis shows, how are Czech televisions dealing with movies and series from communist era, and whether there are any long-term trends connected with this genre. Thanks to the research method, we can see how the usage of those titles has developed up to present. Study also focuses on programmes during weekends and holidays and the amount of normalization movies on these occasions. One part of this work is dealing with communist propaganda and its presence in current broadcast. As Harald Welzer's studies show, old movies are hugely affecting people's understanding of historical events. Therefore, this survey focuses on Czechoslovak movies, which are falsifying modern history such as TV series Thirty Cases of Major Zeman or comedy Bourlive vino. Apart from those cases, less propagandistic movies have also been examined. For example those showing idealized image of normalization society and values of the former regime.

This bachelor thesis focuses on children's media heroes. Semi-structured interviews with selected children from ages six to twelve from elementary school in Kardašova Řečice were used for the research. Twenty one children participated in the research were answering questions about favorite heroes, watching TV, reading books or playing computer games. The primary purpose of this thesis was to determine what media heroes children choose, for what reason and where the heroes come from. The secondary purpose are the topics arising from the interviews with children, media consumption by children in general, its possible risk, pertinent regulation by parents and so on.

Thesis: The TV series Black Mirror as a substantial creation of British TV production Abstract: ENG The thesis deals with the analysis of the British TV anthology Black Mirror. It examines the program in terms of authorship, processing method, theme, genre, and impact on society. The aim is to determine the basic characteristics of the Black Mirror and to point out its uniqueness in the context of current trends in television content. In individual chapters, it focuses on the role of authorship, the definition of the genre and the definition of the main topic. The program is also subjected to a narrative and stylistic analysis that examines the way the story is constructed, the narrative structure, the work with the characters, the environment and the style. Furthermore this thesis also want to examine the the extent to which the topics of Black Mirror correspond to reality. The result of this research offers a complex picture of Black Mirror, including a comparison with selected British television programs.
