Een van de belangrijkste aandachtspunten bij digitaal erfgoed is de toegankelijkheid. Als instellingen de informatie onderling verbinden, kan het erfgoed nog beter gevonden en door de gebruikers beleefd worden. De Nationale Strategie Digitaal Erfgoed is daarop gericht en de Digitaal Erfgoed Referentie Architectuur (DERA) beschrijft welke afspraken hiervoor nodig zijn. Het ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap (OCW) is eigenaar van de DERA. De Architectuurraad, onder voorzitterschap van OCW, zorgt voor de doorontwikkeling van deze referentiearchitectuur. De Architectuurraad maakt de referentiearchitectuur steeds concreter met afspraken over gemeenschappelijke voorzieningen, standaarden, applicaties, technieken en licenties. De DERA 1.0 bevatte gemeenschappelijke principes. De DERA 2.0 was de eerste stap om deze te vertalen naar concrete requirements voor organisaties die deel uitmaken van het netwerk. In de DERA 3.0 is dit normatieve kader aangevuld met een informatief deel waarin architectuurpatronen worden beschreven. Deze architectuurpatronen zijn afkomstig uit de praktijk van erfgoedinstellingen en ontwikkelingen binnen de domeingroepen van het Netwerk Digitaal Erfgoed. In de DERA 4.0 is het normatieve kader aangevuld met de applicatiearchitectuur. Informatie uit de nieuwe DERA kun je nalezen op de DERA-wiki. Doordat aanpassingen aan de DERA meteen in de wiki worden opgenomen, bevat deze de meest actuele informatie. De onderdelen van de referentiearchitectuur, zoals de principes of bedrijfsfuncties, komen elk apart aan bod en zijn daardoor makkelijker te lezen. Daarnaast bevat de wiki informatie over actuele ontwikkelingen.

Swillen, “Van ziekenhuisbedden en maskers” Het interbellum wordt gekenmerkt door de dreiging van een nieuwe oorlog, waarvan werd gedacht dat hij op de vorige zou lijken met gebruik van chemische wapens. De huidige COVID-19-pandemie wekt een angst die in menig opzicht doet denken aan de vrees uit de jaren 1930 wat de gevolgen van die oorlogsgassen, vooral van het yperiet betrof. Bovendien spelen beide crisissen zich af op een achtergrond van grote ecologische problemen door luchtvervuiling. In beide gevallen heeft men nood aan meer ziekenhuisbedden en maskers. Voor de vergelijking tussen beide periodes werd hoofdzakelijk een beroep gedaan op de archieven van het OCMW-Brussel en de parlementaire debatten uit de jaren 1930-1940. Er werd bovendien rekening gehouden met de bewapeningswedloop van het nationaalsocialistische Duitsland. Kunnen de toen getroffen maatregelen met de huidige worden vergeleken? In welke zin zijn de houdingen in de sector van de gezondheidszorg en van de politieke verantwoordelijken geëvolueerd? Résumé: G. L’actuelle pandémie du COVID-19 suscite une angoisse qui ressemble en maints points aux craintes des années 1930 face aux conséquences de ces gaz de combat, surtout de l’ypérite. Les deux crises se jouent en outre avec en arrière-fond de gros problèmes écologiques de pollution atmosphérique. Dans les deux cas les mesures à prendre exigent des lits d’hôpitaux plus nombreux et des masques. La comparaison entre les deux périodes fait principalement appel aux archives du Centre Publique d’Action Sociale de Bruxelles et aux débats parlementaires des années 1930-1940 sans oublier la course au réarmement en Allemagne. Les mesures prises dans les deux crises sont-elles comparables ? En quel sens ont évolué les attitudes du secteur de la santé et des responsables politiques? Fazit : G. Die aktuelle Angst vor die COVID-19 Pandemie ist in mancher Beziehung den Befürchtungen der neunzehnhundertdreißiger Jahre den Folgen der Giftgase, besonders des Losts gegenüber, sehr ähnlich. Beide Krisen spielen sich vor dem Hintergrund wichtiger Umweltgefährdung durch Luftverschmutzung. In beiden Fällen brauchte man mehr Krankenhausbetten und Masken. Für den Vergleich der beiden Perioden wurden hauptsächlich die Archivunterlagen des Sozialamts der Stadt Brüssel und der Parlamentsdebatte der Jahren 1930-1940 benutzt. Der Rüstungswettlauf des nationalsozialistischen Deutschlands wurde nicht vergessen. Kann man die Maßnahmen in den beiden Krisen miteinander vergleichen? Wie hat das Verhalten der Gesundheitsbehörden und der politischen Leiter sich entwickelt?

A 57 year old woman with a history of liver cirrhosis and ascites presented with serous exudate spontaneously leaking from a ruptured umbilical hernia, also known as Flood syndrome. This syndrome is a rare complication of decompensated liver cirrhosis and is associated with high mortality. In this specific case, there was also omentum protruding through the umbilical hernia which limited the outflow of ascites. Patient was successfully treated with antibiotics and consecutive open primary hernia repair without mesh implantation.

Dementia expressed in metaphors In healthcare, both patients and doctors use a lot of metaphors in their communication. Generally, not a lot of attention is paid to this, however, the use of metaphors is important to the patients' experience of both quality of life and quality of care. In our society, many negative metaphors are used about people with dementia, and these reflect the general way dementia is perceived by society. We investigated the sort of metaphors that people with dementia themselves use when talking about their lives with dementia. We found that people with dementia use a variety of metaphors to describe their disease. When doctors become more sensitive to the use of metaphors by themselves and their patients, this could lead to better insight into the specific experience patients go through and to healthcare that is better adjusted to these experiences.

The objective of network regulation is to achieve an optimal mix of public values, such as the prevention of infrastructure related nuisance, the availability of high quality universal services for reasonable prices and innovation of networks and services. This study’s aim is to expose potential legislative adjustments to accelerate the speed of innovation without comprising the prevailing legal protection of other public values. Although the study is focused on the Dutch telecom industries, it intends to also provide inspiration for similar research in other network markets. As the influence of sector specific regulatory concepts varies per scenario, several innovation scenarios – focusing on Next Generation Networks (NGN) as well as on Same Generation Networks (SGN) – are identified. In order to determine the expected influence of innovation speed determinants as found in innovation literature for each scenario, an (imaginary) ‘unregulated network market’ (UNM) is established where providers behave according to innovation timing theory, network effects and several rules of preference. In such a market it will be especially attractive to an incumbent to build on its existing network (SGN) instead of investing in NGN. After providing an inventory of prevailing determinants in Dutch telecom legislation and adding those determinants to the UNM, a conclusion is drawn about the influence of the Dutch telecommunications law on the probability of the identified innovation scenarios. In general, current legislation seems to focus merely on mitigation of the negative impact on innovation of arrangements safeguarding other public values than innovation, instead of stimulating (radical) innovation under the condition that this must not be at the expense of the protection of other public values - at least not too much. Hence, in the prevailing legal regime enhancing innovation appears to be subordinate to safeguarding other interests. Several legislative paths are identified to accelerate innovation without comprising the prevailing legal protection of such other public values. For many of the examples given, the choice to make such an adjustment involves a political choice about which innovation scenarios to stimulate. Legislative stimulation of all scenarios identified appears a mission impossible.

Impulsivity is a hallmark of addiction and predicts treatment response and relapse. Impulsivity is, however, a complex construct. Translational cross-species research is needed to give us greater insight into the neurobiology and the role of impulsivity in addiction and to help with the development of new treatment strategies for improving patients' impulse control.To review recent evidence concerning the concept of impulsivity and the role of impulsivity in addiction.The concept and neurobiology of impulsivity are reviewed from a translational perspective. The role of impulsivity in addiction and implications for treatment are discussed.Our recent translational cross-species study indicates that impulsivity is made up of several, separate independent features with partly distinct underlying neurobiological substrates. There are also indications that these features make a unique and independent contribution to separate stages of the addiction cycle.In addition, the improvement of impulse control is a promising new target area for treatments that could lead to better results. However, those involved in developing new treatment strategies will have to take into account the complexity and multidimensional character of impulsivity.

Familiebedrijven zijn alomtegenwoordig in het huidige economische landschap. Ze zijn de meest voorkomende bedrijfsvorm. Dat uit zich ook in de wetenschappelijke literatuur. De laatste decennia is er veel onderzoek gedaan naar familiebedrijven, wat tot een geheel nieuw onderzoeksgebied binnen de bedrijfseconomische wetenschappen geleid heeft. Het uitgangspunt daarbij is dat familiebedrijven fundamenteel verschillend zijn van niet-familiebedrijven. Aangezien innovatie steeds meer gezien wordt als motor achter economische groei, is het dan ook nuttig om het gedrag van familiebedrijven in deze context te bestuderen. In deze masterproef tracht ik te weten te komen wat de invloed is van familiale betrokkenheid op de R&D-intensiteit van Belgische, beursgenoteerde bedrijven. Het theoretische kader dat daarbij gebruikt wordt is de agencytheorie. Het vertrekpunt van deze theorie is dat aandeelhouders en managers verschillende risicovoorkeuren hebben, omdat de manager zijn risico niet kan divers

Een institutioneel onderzoek wordt beschreven naar het voormalige Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid (RIV) en het Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieuhygiene (RIVM) in de periode 1940-1995. De methode van het institutioneel onderzoek, ontwikkeld door de Projectgroep Invoering Verkorting Overbrengingstermijn (PIVOT) van de Rijksarchiefdienst, maakt het mogelijk om bij de selectie van archieven uit te gaan van de functie van de organisatie. Hierbij wordt niet de informatieve waarde van documenten maar de waardering van het overheidshandelen de bepalende factor bij de selectie van de documentaire neerslag. Dit nieuwe selectieinstrument is ontwikkeld omdat door de verkorting van de overbrengingstermijn van overheidsarchieven, vastgelegd in de archiefwet van 1995, binnen een kort tijdsbestek een grote inhaalslag bij de bewerking van overheidsarchieven moet gaan plaatsvinden. Het resultaat van dit institutioneel onderzoek is een beschrijving van het volledige takenpakket en de handelingen die opgedragen zijn aan de organisatie in de genoemde periode. De belangrijkste functie, wetenschappelijke ondersteuning van het overheidsbeleid en het verschaffen van wetenschappelijke expertise op het gebied van volksgezondheid en milieu(hygiene), veranderde door de jaren heen nauwelijks. Naast de algemene taken worden de volgende vier werkterreinen beschreven: 1. Monitoring en verkenning van de toestand van de volksgezondheid en het milieu ; 1. Risicoschatting en normstelling ; 3. Surveillance van gezondheidsbedreigingen ; 4. Ontwikkeling en productie van vaccins. In totaal worden 88 handelingen beschreven, waarbij van iedere handeling de tijdsperiode, de bron, de beleidsfase, de actor en zo mogelijk het uitvoerende organisatieonderdeel worden genoemd. Om de diverse handelingen in hun context te kunnen beoordelen wordt een kort historisch overzicht van de betreffende beleidsterreinen gegeven en worden zowel de nationale als internationale actoren op het gebied van volksgezondheid en milieu(hygiene) opgesomd.

Behavioural changes, such as hyperactivity, aggression, mood swings and agitation may occur during the use of inhaled corticosteroids. Children are particularly vulnerable to this possible adverse drug reaction. As this side effect is reversible, timely recognition is important in order to prevent unnecessary diagnostic investigations and problems at home or at school. In this article we present two patients, a seven-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl, who illustrate the importance of awareness of this unwanted effect of inhaled corticosteroids.

Met de uitkomsten van deze haalbaarheidstudie verwacht de gemeente meer inzicht te krijgen in de haalbaarheid van de gebiedsconcepten die voor Land van Thorn worden ontwikkeld. Door de haalbaarheidsstudie gelijktijdig met het publieke planvormingsproces (structuurvisie en Masterplan) op te laten lopen, verwacht de gemeente tijdwinst te boeken. Want als uit de TransForum-studie Land van Thorn blijkt dat de integrale gebiedsontwikkeling haalbaar is, kan door de gemeente meteen een oordeel gevormd worden over de inpassing van dit integrale gebiedsplan in de structuurvisie en het Masterplan.

In 1998 mutual practice visitation has been introduced in the Dutch dental practice as a method to improve quality of dental care. The method is called 'mutual visitation' because groups of three dentists visit and evaluate each others practices. An independent research institute (Nivel) investigated the perceived effects, advantages and barriers of visitation. A postal questionnaire was sent to all 235 dentists who, by that time, participated in visitation. The response was 57%. The results showed that the effects reported most frequently were: a more critical attitude to dental practice, more insight into practices of colleagues and actual improvements in dental care. The majority of the respondents considered visitation suitable to improve practice-organization. A minority considered visitation suitable to increase professional expertise. The mutuality of the visitation was highly valued by the participants. The main disadvantage of visitation appeared to be the time investment (a mean of three days per dentist). In general, the respondents held the view that the positive effects outweighed the time and efforts, however, many dentists regretted the lack of financial compensation for visitation.

A rationale is presented as to why the enantioselectivity of enzymes in dry organic media towards specific substrates is increased when the enzyme flexibility is increased. This is outlined for serine proteases towards N -acetyl-amino acid esters. The reasons why this relationship does not hold in the case of non-specific substrates are discussed.

In 1990 the Dutch organisations for health care providers, patients-organizations and insurance companies agreed on the implementation of quality systems in health care. Ever since, the health care professions--including dentists--are being involved in the development of quality systems to assure and improve the quality of care. In 2000 a national survey has been conducted to investigate which quality systems already were developed by Dutch health care professions and a comparison between the professions has been made. It appeared that the quality systems of the professions are characterised by four pillars. 1. professional expertise; 2. evidence based guidelines for good practice; 3. peer review directed at continuous improvement; and 4. re-licensing or certification to guarantee the quality. The study showed that the professions differ in the quality policies they pursue and in the progress which has been made. In dental practice an accent in the quality policy is on peer review (whereas in general practice the accent is on guidelines). Ranking the professions in the degree in which the quality system are developed, medical doctors and pharmacists are front-runners, dentist are in the middle rank whereas nurses and psychologists are lagging behind. For the years to come, a priority has been set on further implementation of the quality systems.

This paper presents a tryptophan phosphorescence spectroscopy study on the membrane-bound mannitol transporter, EII(mtl), from E. coli. The protein contains four tryptophans at positions 30, 42, 109, and 117. Phosphorescence decays in buffer at 1 degrees C revealed large variations of the triplet lifetimes of the wild-type protein and four single-tryptophan-containing mutants. They ranged from

Age-related fractures are considered to be primarily the consequence of bone loss and increased bone fragility. In line with this dominant view on fracture etiology, prevention studies have primarily focused on pharmacologic interventions to increase bone density of the femoral neck. However, osteoporotic fracture occurrence is not entirely accounted for by bone strength but also related to the incidence and impact of falls. Recent data have provided evidence that an intensive multifactorial intervention strategy can be used to decrease the incidence of falls, but it remains to be determined whether fall prevention can be used successfully to prevent fall-related injuries or hip fracture. In fact, while more than 90% of hip fractures involve falls, hip fracture occurs in only about 1% of falls, suggesting that falls that cause hip fracture may differ qualitatively from other falls. These differences relate to the biomechanical aspects of falls, i.e., the energy that is ultimately transmitted to the proximal femur. Fall severity, rather than fall initiation, may therefore have to be the primary subject of future research.
