Diagnosing multi-stage diseases typically requires doctors to consider multiple data sources, including clinical symptoms, physical signs, biochemical test results, imaging findings, pathological examination data, and even genetic data. When applying machine learning modeling to predict and diagnose multi-stage diseases, several challenges need to be addressed. Firstly, the model needs to handle multimodal data, as the data used by doctors for diagnosis includes image data, natural language data, and structured data. Secondly, privacy of patients' data needs to be protected, as these data contain the most sensitive and private information. Lastly, considering the practicality of the model, the computational requirements should not be too high. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a privacy-preserving federated deep learning diagnostic method for multi-stage diseases. This method improves the forward and backward propagation processes of deep neural network modeling algorithms and introduces a homomorphic encryption step to design a federated modeling algorithm without the need for an arbiter. It also utilizes dedicated integrated circuits to implement the hardware Paillier algorithm, providing accelerated support for homomorphic encryption in modeling. Finally, this paper designs and conducts experiments to evaluate the proposed solution. The experimental results show that in privacy-preserving federated deep learning diagnostic modeling, the method in this paper achieves the same modeling performance as ordinary modeling without privacy protection, and has higher modeling speed compared to similar algorithms. One of the predominant health issues affecting Saudi Arabia and leading to many complications is Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Early detection and significant preventative measures lead to curbing and controlling the health issue. There are fewer datasets in the literature for the detection of T2D in the Saudi population. Past studies using Saudi data have favoured machine learning algorithms to classify T2D. Although the application of this data in machine learning is evident, no studies exist in the literature that compare this data, especially those related to deep learning algorithms. This study's objective is to use specific Saudi data to develop multiple deep learning models that could be used to detect T2D. The research uses a Deep Neural Network (DNN), an Autoencoder (AE), and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to create predictive models and compare their performance with a traditional machine learning classifier used on the same dataset that outperformed other machine learning algorithms such as a Decision Forest (DF). Various metrics were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the models, such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score and area under the ROC curve (AUC) where the ROC acts as a receiver operating characteristic curve. There are two cases in this paper: (i) uses all features of the dataset and (ii) uses six of the ten features, such as DF. In case (i), the results were shown that AE outperformed other models with the highest accuracy for imbalanced and balanced data 81.12% and 79.16%, respectively. The results for case (ii) showed that AE scored the highest 81.01% accuracy with imbalanced data compared to DF and DF achieved the highest accuracy of 82.1% with balanced data. As a result, both cases explored in this study revealed that AE has a constant superior performance if imbalanced data is used. In contrast, DF demonstrated the highest accuracy when a balanced dataset was used with a feature set reduction. They help to identify the undiagnosed T2D, and they are essential for professionals in Saudi Arabia in the health sector to promote health connections, identify risks and contain or improve their diabetes management. The number of papers on machine learning and deep neural networks applied to intrusion detection systems (IDS) is ever-increasing. Differently from existing work on the topic, this paper explores the effect of training-time randomness of deep neural networks, which is overlooked by the related literature. Training-time randomness is regulated by the seed of the pseudorandom number generator, and affects the performance of IDS models. The seed selection is studied in conjunction with other critical learning parameters: to the best of our knowledge, there are no similar studies in IDS. The experiments are done with a recent and widely consolidated intrusion detection benchmark, which is used to train and test a neural network under different combinations of seeds and parameters both in supervised and semi-supervised learning modes. The results are inferred by a mixture of explorative analysis, design of experiments, and analysis of variance. According to the results, the choice of the seed yields either excellent or scarce detection metrics; more importantly, the seed selection might be as relevant as the other major learning parameters assessed. Breast cancer (BC) is one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide, as it has emerged as the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in women. Early detection and effective treatment of BC can help save women's lives. Developing an efficient technology-based detection system can lead to non-destructive and preliminary cancer detection techniques. This paper proposes a comprehensive framework that can effectively diagnose cancerous cells from benign cells using the Curated Breast Imaging Subset of the Digital Database for Screening Mammography (CBIS-DDSM) data set. The novelty of the proposed framework lies in the integration of various techniques, where the fusion of deep learning (DL), traditional machine learning (ML) techniques, and enhanced classification models have been deployed using the curated dataset. The analysis outcome proves that the proposed enhanced RF (ERF), enhanced DT (EDT) and enhanced LR (ELR) models for BC detection outperformed most of the existing models with impressive results. Deep neural networks provide good performance in image recognition, voice recognition, pattern recognition, and intrusion detection. However, deep neural networks are vulnerable to adversarial examples. Adversarial examples are samples that are created by adding a small amount of noise to normal data in such a way that they are recognized as normal by humans but are misclassified by a target model. In this paper, we propose a method for defending against audio adversarial examples using a noise vector, without the need for a separate module or process. The proposed method correctly identifies adversarial examples while maintaining the model's accuracy on normal samples by using a noise vector. In our experiments, the Mozilla Common Voice dataset was used as test data, with TensorFlow as the machine learning library. This paper proposes a novel hardware architecture for a Feed-Forward Neural Network (FFNN) with the objective of minimizing the number of execution clock cycles needed for the network's computation. The proposed architecture depends mainly on using two physical layers that are multiplexed and reused during the computation of the FFNN to achieve an efficient parallel design. Two physical layers are designed to handle the computation of different sizes of Neural Networks (NN). The proposed FFNN architecture hardware resources are independent of the NN's number of layers, instead, they depend only on the number of neurons in the largest layer. This versatile architecture serves as an accelerator in Deep Neural Network (DNN) computations as it exploits parallelism by making the two physical layers work in parallel through the computations. The proposed implementation was implemented with 18-bit fixed point representation reaching 200 MHz clock speed on a Spartan7 FPGA. With the significant increase in photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation, more attention has been given to PV power forecasting. Indeed, accurate forecasting allows power grid operators to better schedule and dispatch their assets, such as energy storage systems and reserve. In this paper, a hybrid deep learning model and a convolutional neural network with memory is proposed, to provide intraday (2 h) solar irradiance forecasts using sequentially-collected images from public webcams. The performance of the proposed model is compared to those of a standard time-series forecast models, a linear regression as well as state-of-the-art neural networks. All models are trained and tested using images collected from two webcams on EPFL's campus for just over a year. Background: Accurate prediction of an individual's predisposition to diseases is vital for preventive medicine and early intervention. Various statistical and machine learning models have been developed for disease prediction using clinico-genomic data. However, the accuracy of clinico-genomic prediction of diseases may vary significantly across ancestry groups due to their unequal representation in clinical genomic datasets. Methods: We introduced a deep transfer learning approach to improve the performance of clinico-genomic prediction models for data-disadvantaged ancestry groups. We conducted machine learning experiments on multi-ancestral genomic datasets of lung cancer, prostate cancer, and Alzheimer's disease, as well as on synthetic datasets with built-in data inequality and distribution shifts across ancestry groups. Results: Deep transfer learning significantly improved disease prediction accuracy for data-disadvantaged populations in our multi-ancestral machine learning experiments. In contrast, transfer learning based on linear frameworks did not achieve comparable improvements for these data-disadvantaged populations. Conclusions: This study shows that deep transfer learning can enhance fairness in multi-ancestral machine learning by improving prediction accuracy for data-disadvantaged populations without compromising prediction accuracy for other populations, thus providing a Pareto improvement towards equitable clinico-genomic prediction of diseases. Cervical cancer, the second most prevalent cancer affecting women, arises from abnormal cell growth in the cervix, a crucial anatomical structure within the uterus. The significance of early detection cannot be overstated, prompting the use of various screening methods such as Pap smears, colposcopy, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing to identify potential risks and initiate timely intervention. These screening procedures encompass visual inspections, Pap smears, colposcopies, biopsies, and HPV-DNA testing, each demanding the specialized knowledge and skills of experienced physicians and pathologists due to the inherently subjective nature of cancer diagnosis. In response to the imperative for efficient and intelligent screening, this article introduces a groundbreaking methodology that leverages pre-trained deep neural network models, including Alexnet, Resnet-101, Resnet-152, and InceptionV3, for feature extraction. The fine-tuning of these models is accompanied by the integration of diverse machine learning algorithms, with ResNet152 showcasing exceptional performance, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 98.08%. It is noteworthy that the SIPaKMeD dataset, publicly accessible and utilized in this study, contributes to the transparency and reproducibility of our findings. The proposed hybrid methodology combines aspects of DL and ML for cervical cancer classification. Most intricate and complicated features from images can be extracted through DL. This paper is focused on the application of the machine learning for predicting structural response of ring stiffened cylindrical shells subjected to far-field underwater explosion. Three deep neural network (DNN) models are combined to predict the progressive plastic deformation behaviour of stiffened cylindrical shells subjected to the shock wave produced by a TNT charge. In the DNN regression models, the input variables include the charge mass, stand-off distance, detonation depth, cylindrical shell thickness, stiffener web and flange. These three DNN models composed of multi hidden layers are trained based on the data collection originated from a series of simulations performed by the ABAQUS finite element solver. Grid search is introduced to the hyperparameter tuning for deep learning, improving the prediction performance of machine learning methods. The DNN models are compared to the models trained using another three methods: multiple linear regression, decision tree and k-nearest neighbour. An improved Adam optimisation algorithm is used to increase the accuracy of prediction. The challenges encountered during the predictions are discussed to provide a more comprehensive insight into the advantage of the proposed DNN models. Concrete cracks pose significant safety hazards to buildings, and semantic segmentation models based on deep learning have achieved state-of-the-art results in concrete crack detection. However, these models usually have a large model size which is impossible to use in drones. To solve this problem, we propose a Light-Weighted Convolution-Based Segmentation Method with a Separable Multi-Directional Convolution Module (LCSNet). In our proposed method, light-weighted convolution is used to substitute all traditional convolutions. In addition, a light-weighted structure named a Separable Multi-Directional Convolution Module (SMDCM) is used to substitute traditional parallel structures or attention modules to learn contextual or detail features. Thus, the ability to extract the contextual feature information of the model can be retained while the computational complexity is largely reduced. Through these two improvements, the model size of the proposed model can have a lower computational complexity. The experimental results show that our proposed LCSNet can achieve accuracies of 94.2%, 83.6%, 99.2%, and 83.3% on the Cracktree200, CRACK500, CFD, and RECrack datasets, respectively, which are higher than those of traditional models. Deep neural networks perform well in image recognition, object recognition, pattern analysis, and speech recognition. In military applications, deep neural networks can detect equipment and recognize objects. In military equipment, it is necessary to detect and recognize rifle management, which is an important piece of equipment, using deep neural networks. There have been no previous studies on the detection of real rifle numbers using real rifle image datasets. In this study, we propose a method for detecting and recognizing rifle numbers when rifle image data are insufficient. The proposed method was designed to improve the recognition rate of a specific dataset using data fusion and transfer learningmethods. In the proposed method, real rifle images and existing digit images are fusedas trainingdata, andthe final layer is transferredto theYolov5 algorithmmodel.The detectionand recognition performance of rifle numbers was improved and analyzed using rifle image and numerical datasets.We used actual rifle image data (K-2 rifle) and numeric image datasets, as an experimental environment. TensorFlow was used as the machine learning library. Experimental results show that the proposed method maintains 84.42% accuracy, 73.54% precision, 81.81% recall, and 77.46% F1-score in detecting and recognizing rifle numbers.
