When performing classification tasks on high-dimensional data, traditional machine learning algorithms often fail to filter out valid information in the features adequately, leading to low levels of classification accuracy. Therefore, this paper explores the high-dimensional data from both the data feature dimension and the model ensemble dimension. We propose a high-dimensional ensemble learning classification algorithm focusing on feature space reconstruction and classifier ensemble, called the HDELC algorithm. First, the algorithm considers feature space reconstruction and then generates a feature space reconstruction matrix. It effectively achieves feature selection and reconstruction for high-dimensional data. An optimal feature space is generated for the subsequent ensemble of the classifier, which enhances the representativeness of the feature space. Second, we recursively determine the number of classifiers and the number of feature subspaces in the ensemble model. Different classifiers in the ensemble system are assigned mutually exclusive non-intersecting feature subspaces for model training. The experimental results show that the HDELC algorithm has advantages compared with most high-dimensional datasets due to its more efficient feature space ensemble capability and relatively reliable ensemble operation performance. This paper introduces Dendritic Growth Optimization (DGO), a novel algorithm inspired by natural branching patterns. DGO offers a novel solution for intricate optimization problems and demonstrates its efficiency in exploring diverse solution spaces. The algorithm has been extensively tested with a suite of machine learning algorithms, deep learning algorithms, and metaheuristic algorithms, and the results, both before and after optimization, unequivocally support the proposed algorithm's feasibility, effectiveness, and generalizability. Through empirical validation using established datasets like diabetes and breast cancer, the algorithm consistently enhances model performance across various domains. Network virtualization is a technology proven to be a key enabling a family of strategies in different targets, such as energy efficiency, economic revenue, network usage, adaptability or failure protection. Network virtualization allows us to adapt the needs of a network to new circumstances, resulting in greater flexibility. The allocation decisions of the demands onto the physical network resources impact the costs and the benefits. Therefore it is one of the major current problems, called virtual network embedding (VNE). Many algorithms have been proposed recently in the literature to solve the VNE problem for different targets. Due to the current successful rise of artificial intelligence, it has been widely used recently to solve technological problems. As technology advances, the equipment becomes more complicated, and the importance of the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) to monitor the condition of the equipment has risen. In recent years, various methodologies have emerged. With the development of computing technology, methodologies using machine learning and deep learning are gaining attention, in particular. As these algorithms become more advanced, the performance of detecting anomalies and predicting failures has improved dramatically. However, most of the studies are cases that depend on simulation data or assumed abnormal conditions. In addition, regardless of the existence of run-to-failure data, the methodologies are difficult to apply to the industrial site directly. To solve this problem, we propose a Predictive Maintenance (PdM) framework based on unsupervised learning in this paper, which can be applied directly in the industrial field regardless of run-to-failure data. The proposed framework consists of data acquisition, preprocessing data, constructing a Health Index, and predicting the remaining useful life. We propose a framework that can create and monitor models even when there are no accumulated run-to-failure data. The globalization of the integrated circuit (IC) industry has raised concerns about hardware Trojans (HT), and there is an urgent need for efficient HT-detection methods of gate-level netlists. Machine learning (ML) is a powerful tool for this purpose. A Trojan-detection framework is proposed in this paper to solve the data imbalance and low accuracy problems of existing ML-based HT-detection algorithms. To solve the problem of data imbalance, we propose the node-filtering algorithm, which extracts structure templates from HT circuits and removes most normal nodes based on them. To enhance the identification of unknown HT payload, we propose the load-expansion algorithm, which expands the identified HT nodes based on their fanout features. We evaluate the framework using different ML algorithms. The results show that the framework significantly improves the Trojan-detection rate of the original algorithms, and achieves a 10% improvement in true positive rate compared to the original algorithms. To solve the problems of low accuracy, low real-time performance, poor robustness and others caused by the complex environment, this paper proposes a face mask recognition and standard wear detection algorithm based on the improved YOLO-v4. Firstly, an improved CSPDarkNet53 is introduced into the trunk feature extraction network, which reduces the computing cost of the network and improves the learning ability of the model. Secondly, the adaptive image scaling algorithm can reduce computation and redundancy effectively. Thirdly, the improved PANet structure is introduced so that the network has more semantic information in the feature layer. At last, a face mask detection data set is made according to the standard wearing of masks. Based on the object detection algorithm of deep learning, a variety of evaluation indexes are compared to evaluate the effectiveness of the model. The results of the comparations show that the mAP of face mask recognition can reach 98.3% and the frame rate is high at 54.57 FPS, which are more accurate compared with the exiting algorithm. This paper features the study of global optimization problems and numerical methods of their solution. Such problems are computationally expensive since the objective function can be multi-extremal, nondifferentiable, and, as a rule, given in the form of a "black box". This study used a deterministic algorithm for finding the global extremum. This algorithm is based neither on the concept of multistart, nor nature-inspired algorithms. The article provides computational rules of the one-dimensional algorithm and the nested optimization scheme which could be applied for solving multidimensional problems. Please note that the solution complexity of global optimization problems essentially depends on the presence of multiple local extrema. In this paper, we apply machine learning methods to identify regions of attraction of local minima. The use of local optimization algorithms in the selected regions can significantly accelerate the convergence of global search as it could reduce the number of search trials in the vicinity of local minima. The results of computational experiments carried out on several hundred global optimization problems of different dimensionalities presented in the paper confirm the effect of accelerated convergence (in terms of the number of search trials required to solve a problem with a given accuracy). In this paper, we propose a master–slave methodology to address the problem of optimal integration (location and sizing) of Distributed Generators (DGs) in Direct Current (DC) networks. This proposed methodology employs a parallel version of the Population-Based Incremental Learning (PPBIL) optimization method in the master stage to solve the location problem and the Vortex Search Algorithm (VSA) in the slave stage to solve the sizing problem. In addition, it uses the reduction of power losses as the objective function, considering all the constraints associated with the technical conditions specific to DGs and DC networks. To validate its effectiveness and robustness, we use as comparison methods, different solution methodologies that have been reported in the specialized literature, as well as two test systems (the 21 and 69-bus test systems). All simulations were performed in MATLAB. According to the results, the proposed hybrid (PPBIL–VSA) methodology provides the best trade-off between quality of the solution and processing times and exhibits an adequate repeatability every time it is executed. In solving classification problems in the field of machine learning and pattern recognition, the pre-processing of data is particularly important. The processing of high-dimensional feature datasets increases the time and space complexity of computer processing and reduces the accuracy of classification models. Hence, the proposal of a good feature selection method is essential. This paper presents a new algorithm for solving feature selection, retaining the selection and mutation operators from traditional genetic algorithms. On the one hand, the global search capability of the algorithm is ensured by changing the population size, on the other hand, finding the optimal mutation probability for solving the feature selection problem based on different population sizes. During the iteration of the algorithm, the population size does not change, no matter how many transformations are made, and is the same as the initialized population size; this spatial invariance is physically defined as symmetry. The proposed method is compared with other algorithms and validated on different datasets. The experimental results show good performance of the algorithm, in addition to which we apply the algorithm to a practical Android software classification problem and the results also show the superiority of the algorithm. Community detection is an important task in the analysis of complex networks, which is significant for mining and analyzing the organization and function of networks. As an unsupervised learning algorithm based on the particle competition mechanism, stochastic competitive learning has been applied in the field of community detection in complex networks, but still has several limitations. In order to improve the stability and accuracy of stochastic competitive learning and solve the problem of community detection, we propose an unsupervised community detection algorithm LNSSCL (Local Node Similarity-Integrated Stochastic Competitive Learning). The algorithm calculates node degree as well as Salton similarity metrics to determine the starting position of particle walk; local node similarity is incorporated into the particle preferential walk rule; the particle is dynamically adjusted to control capability increments according to the control range; particles select the node with the strongest control capability within the node to be resurrected; and the LNSSCL algorithm introduces a node affiliation selection step to adjust the node community labels. Experimental comparisons with 12 representative community detection algorithms on real network datasets and synthetic networks show that the LNSSCL algorithm is overall better than other compared algorithms in terms of standardized mutual information (NMI) and modularity (Q). The article presents the development of new physics-informed evolutionary neural network learning algorithms. These algorithms aim to address the challenges of ill-posed problems by constructing a population close to the Pareto front. The study focuses on comparing the algorithm's capabilities based on three quality criteria of solutions. To evaluate the algorithms' performance, two benchmark problems have been used. The first involved solving the Laplace equation in square regions with discontinuous boundary conditions. The second problem considered the absence of boundary conditions but with the presence of measurements. Additionally, the study investigates the influence of hyperparameters on the final results. Comparisons have been made between the proposed algorithms and standard algorithms for constructing neural networks based on physics (commonly referred to as vanilla's algorithms). The results demonstrate the advantage of the proposed algorithms in achieving better performance when solving incorrectly posed problems. In industrial production planning problems, the accuracy of the accessible market information has the highest priority, as it is directly associated with the reliability of decisions and affects the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing. However, during a collaborative task, certain private information regarding the participants might be unknown to the regulator, and the production planning decisions thus become biased or even inaccurate due to the lack of full information. To improve the production performance in this specific case, this paper combines the techniques of machine learning and model predictive control (MPC) to create a comprehensive algorithm with low complexity. We collect the historical data of the decision-making process while the participants make their individual decisions with a certain degree of bias and analyze the collected data using machine learning to estimate the unknown parameter values by solving a regression problem. Based on an accurate estimate, MPC helps the regulator to make optimal decisions, maximizing the overall net profit of a given collaborative task over a future time period. A simulation-based case study is conducted to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of estimation accuracy. In this paper, a proposed algorithm that dynamically changes the neural network structure is presented. The structure is changed based on some features in the cascade correlation algorithm. Cascade correlation is an important algorithm that is used to solve the actual problem by artificial neural networks as a new architecture and supervised learning algorithm. This process optimizes the architectures of the network which intends to accelerate the learning process and produce better performance in generalization. Simple Summary: This work successfully employs a novel approach in processing patient and drug data to predict the drug response for cancer patients. The approach uses a deep quantum computing circuit as part of a machine learning architecture to simultaneously consider the cell line and the chemical and predict its effect. The resultant hybrid quantum architecture predicted the drug response with 15% better effectiveness than its classical counterpart. This result presents a step towards designing personalized drugs using the abilities of quantum computers. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It is caused by various genetic mutations, which makes every instance of the disease unique. Since chemotherapy can have extremely severe side effects, each patient requires a personalized treatment plan. Finding the dosages that maximize the beneficial effects of the drugs and minimize their adverse side effects is vital. Deep neural networks automate and improve drug selection. However, they require a lot of data to be trained on. Therefore, there is a need for machine-learning approaches that require less data. Hybrid quantum neural networks were shown to provide a potential advantage in problems where training data availability is limited. We propose a novel hybrid quantum neural network for drug response prediction based on a combination of convolutional, graph convolutional, and deep quantum neural layers of 8 qubits with 363 layers. We test our model on the reduced Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer dataset and show that the hybrid quantum model outperforms its classical analog by 15% in predicting IC 50 drug effectiveness values. The proposed hybrid quantum machine learning model is a step towards deep quantum data-efficient algorithms with thousands of quantum gates for solving problems in personalized medicine, where data collection is a challenge. Nowadays, most fuzzy clustering algorithms are sensitive to the initialization results of clustering algorithms and have a weak ability to handle high-dimensional data. To solve these problems, we developed the viewpoint-driven subspace fuzzy c-means (VSFCM) algorithm. Firstly, we propose a new cut-off distance. Based on this, we establish the cut-off distance-induced clustering initialization (CDCI) method and use it as a new strategy for cluster center initialization and viewpoint selection. Secondly, by taking the viewpoint obtained by CDCI as the entry point of knowledge, a new fuzzy clustering strategy driven by knowledge and data is formed. Based upon these, we put forward the VSFCM algorithm combined with viewpoints, separation terms, and subspace fuzzy feature weights. Moreover, compared with the symmetric weights obtained by other subspace clustering algorithms, the weights of the VSFCM algorithm exhibit significant asymmetry. That is, they assign greater weights to features that contribute more, which is validated on the artificial dataset DATA2 in the experimental section. The experimental results compared with multiple advanced clustering algorithms on the three types of datasets validate that the proposed VSFCM algorithm has the best performance in five indicators. It is demonstrated that the initialization method CDCI is more effective, the feature weight allocation of VSFCM is more consistent with the asymmetry of experimental data, and it can achieve better convergence speed while displaying better clustering efficiency. Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) research has aimed to achieve human-level performance in tasks that require understanding and decision making. Although major advances have been made, AI systems still struggle to achieve adaptive learning for generalization. One of the main approaches to generalization in ML is transfer learning, where previously learned knowledge is utilized to solve problems in a different, but related, domain. Another approach, pursued by cognitive scientists for several decades, has investigated the role of analogical reasoning in comparisons aimed at understanding human generalization ability. Analogical reasoning has yielded rich empirical findings and general theoretical principles underlying human analogical inference and generalization across distinctively different domains. Though seemingly similar, there are fundamental differences between the two approaches. To clarify differences and similarities, we review transfer learning algorithms, methods, and applications in comparison with work based on analogical inference. Transfer learning focuses on exploring feature spaces shared across domains through data vectorization while analogical inferences focus on identifying relational structure shared across domains via comparisons. Rather than treating these two learning approaches as synonymous or as independent and mutually irrelevant fields, a better understanding of how they are interconnected can guide a multidisciplinary synthesis of the two approaches. A social tagging system improves recommendation performance by introducing tags as auxiliary information. These tags are text descriptions of target items provided by individual users, which can be arbitrary words or phrases, so they can provide more abundant information about user interests and item characteristics. However, there are many problems to be solved in tag information, such as data sparsity, ambiguity, and redundancy. In addition, it is difficult to capture multi-aspect user interests and item characteristics from these tags, which is essential to the recommendation performance. In the view of these situations, we propose a tag-aware recommendation model based on attention learning, which can capture diverse tag-based potential features for users and items. The proposed model adopts the embedding method to produce dense tag-based feature vectors for each user and each item. To compress these vectors into a fixed-length feature vector, we construct an attention pooling layer that can automatically allocate different weights to different features according to their importance. We concatenate the feature vectors of users and items as the input of a multi-layer fully connected network to learn non-linear high-level interaction features. In addition, a generalized linear model is also conducted to extract low-level interaction features. By integrating these features of different types, the proposed model can provide more accurate recommendations. We establish extensive experiments on two real-world datasets to validate the effect of the proposed model. Comparable results show that our model perform better than several state-of-the-art tag-aware recommendation methods in terms of HR and NDCG metrics. The most popular algorithms used in unsupervised learning are clustering algorithms. Clustering algorithms are used to group samples into a number of classes or clusters based on the distances of the given sample features. Therefore, how to define the distance between samples is important for the clustering algorithm. Traditional clustering algorithms are generally based on the Mahalanobis distance and Minkowski distance, which have difficulty dealing with set-based data and uncertain nonlinear data. To solve this problem, we propose the granular vectors relative distance and granular vectors absolute distance based on the neighborhood granule operation. Further, the neighborhood granular meanshift clustering algorithm is also proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of neighborhood granular meanshift clustering is proved from two aspects of internal metrics (Accuracy and Fowlkes–Mallows Index) and external metric (Silhouette Coeffificient) on multiple datasets from UC Irvine Machine Learning Repository (UCI). Machine learning research has been able to solve problems in multiple domains. Machine learning represents an open area of research for solving optimisation problems. The optimisation problems can be solved using a metaheuristic algorithm, which can find a solution in a reasonable amount of time. However, the time required to find an appropriate metaheuristic algorithm, that would have the convenient configurations to solve a set of optimisation problems properly presents a problem. The proposal described in this article contemplates an approach that automatically creates metaheuristic algorithms given a set of optimisation problems. These metaheuristic algorithms are created by modifying their logical structure via the execution of an evolutionary process. This process employs an extension of the reinforcement learning approach that considers multi-agents in their environment, and a learning agent composed of an analysis process and a process of modification of the algorithms. The approach succeeded in creating a metaheuristic algorithm that managed to solve different continuous domain optimisation problems from the experiments performed. Modern computer systems practically cannot function without a computer network. New concepts of data transmission are emerging, e.g., programmable networks. However, the development of computer networks entails the need for development in one more aspect, i.e., the quality of the data transmission through the network. The data transmission quality can be described using parameters, i.e., delay, bandwidth, packet loss ratio and jitter. On the basis of the obtained values, specialists are able to state how measured parameters impact on the overall quality of the provided service. Unfortunately, for a non-expert user, understanding of these parameters can be too complex. Hence, the problem of translation of the parameters describing the transmission quality appears understandable to the user. This article presents the concept of using Machine Learning (ML) to solve the above-mentioned problem, i.e., a dynamic classification of the measured parameters describing the transmission quality in a certain scale. Thanks to this approach, describing the quality will become less complex and more understandable for the user. To date, some studies have been conducted. Therefore, it was decided to use different approaches, i.e., fusion of a neural network (NN) and a genetic algorithm (GA). GA's were choosen for the selection of weights replacing the classic gradient descent algorithm. For learning purposes, 100 samples were obtained, each of which was described by four features and the label, which describes the quality. In the reasearch carried out so far, single classifiers and ensemble learning have been used. The current result compared to the previous ones is better. A relatively high quality of the classification was obtained when we have used 10-fold stratified cross-validation, i.e., SEN = 95% (overall accuracy). Currently, industry is undergoing an exponential increase in binary-based combinatorial problems. In this regard, metaheuristics have been a common trend in the field in order to design approaches to successfully solve them. Thus, a well-known strategy includes the employment of continuous swarm-based algorithms transformed to perform in binary environments. In this work, we propose a hybrid approach that contains discrete smartly adapted population-based strategies to efficiently tackle binary-based problems. The proposed approach employs a reinforcement learning technique, known as SARSA (State–Action–Reward–State–Action), in order to utilize knowledge based on the run time. In order to test the viability and competitiveness of our proposal, we compare discrete state-of-the-art algorithms smartly assisted by SARSA. Finally, we illustrate interesting results where the proposed hybrid outperforms other approaches, thus, providing a novel option to tackle these types of problems in industry. Gully erosion is the most severe type of water erosion and is a major land degradation process. Gully erosion susceptibility mapping (GESM)'s efficiency and interpretability remains a challenge, especially in complex terrain areas. In this study, a WoE-MLC model was used to solve the above problem, which combines machine learning classification algorithms and the statistical weight of evidence (WoE) model in the Loess Plateau. The three machine learning (ML) algorithms utilized in this research were random forest (RF), gradient boosted decision trees (GBDT), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). The results showed that: (1) GESM were well predicted by combining both machine learning regression models and WoE-MLC models, with the area under the curve (AUC) values both greater than 0.92, and the latter was more computationally efficient and interpretable; (2) The XGBoost algorithm was more efficient in GESM than the other two algorithms, with the strongest generalization ability and best performance in avoiding overfitting (averaged AUC = 0.947), followed by the RF algorithm (averaged AUC = 0.944), and GBDT algorithm (averaged AUC = 0.938); and (3) slope gradient, land use, and altitude were the main factors for GESM. One of the main focuses of Education 4.0 is to provide students with knowledge on disruptive technologies, such as Machine Learning (ML), as well as the skills to implement this knowledge to solve real-life problems. Therefore, both students and professors require teaching and learning tools that facilitate the introduction to such topics. Consequently, this study looks forward to contributing to the development of those tools by introducing the basic theory behind three machine learning classifying algorithms: K-Nearest-Neighbor (KNN), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), and Simple Perceptron; as well as discussing the diverse advantages and disadvantages of each method. Moreover, it is proposed to analyze how these methods work on different conditions through their implementation over a test bench. Thus, in addition to the description of each algorithm, we discuss their application to solving three different binary classification problems using three different datasets, as well as comparing their performances in these specific case studies. The findings of this study can be used by teachers to provide students the basic knowledge of KNN, LDA, and perceptron algorithms, and, at the same time, it can be used as a guide to learn how to apply them to solve real-life problems that are not limited to the presented datasets. Any algorithm should therefore allow an effective dimensionality reduction, retaining the informative content of data and inferring correlations within and across the time series. Within this framework, we propose a time series AutoEncoder (AE) employing inception modules and residual learning for the encoding and the decoding parts, and an extremely reduced latent representation specifically tailored to tackle load identification tasks. We discuss the choice of the dimensionality of this latent representation, considering the sources of variability in the recordings and the inverse-forward nature of the AE. To help setting the aforementioned dimensionality, the false nearest neighbor heuristics is also exploited. The reported numerical results, related to shear buildings excited by dynamic loadings, highlight the signal reconstruction capacity of the proposed AE, and the capability to accomplish the load identification task.
