This paper examines how seven process innovations have been shared and adopted (or not adopted) between four factories of a multinational company located in Asia. In contrast to most previous studies in this area, these process innovation diffusions happened in a bottom-up manner in which the decision to share and to adopt is made by the individuals at the sites involved rather than by top management either at a local or corporate level. We observe that the factors enabling or discouraging the adoption of process innovation are highly dynamic. When work priorities shift over time, motivating factors once perceived as primary may become secondary, leading to nonadoption of the innovations. As the engineers face an increasing load of other tasks which also demand time and effort, the decision to adopt the innovation or not seems to depend more on the effort required to adapt the innovation for local use than other factors. Innovations which are highly embedded in the original settings face slimmer chance of adoption by other sites as they are likely to require more effort in adapting them for local use. In contrast, innovations which are less embedded in original settings are more likely to be adopted due to the low adaptation effort needed. With changes in the outdoor air temperature, the heat consumption of buildings also changes. Timely adjustment of the heating systems to ensure optimal operating conditions is extremely significant to save energy. In this study, the operation conditions of a heating system were analyzed numerically, and the existence, uniqueness, and stability of the optimal operation conditions of the heating system were proved. An operation optimization model that could obtain the optimal operation conditions was also established, and the correctness of the model was verified experimentally. Experimental results showed that when the flow rate was 0.606 m3/h, the supply water temperature was 67.13°C, water return temperature was 65.90°C, and the pump consumed the least amount of electricity. The experimental results and model calculation results showed that the operating cost is lower when the system flow rate is low and the supply water temperature is high under the same heat dissipation and indoor temperature. In this study, we analyze the deficiencies of specific frictional resistance in heating engineering. Based on economic specific frictional resistance, we put forward the concept of comprehensive specific frictional resistance, which considers the multiple factors of technology, economy, regulation modes, pipe segment differences, and medium pressure. Then, we establish a mathematical model of a heating network across its lifespan in order to develop a method for determining the comprehensive specific frictional resistance. Relevant conclusions can be drawn from the results. International product strategy regarding global standardisation and local adaptation is one of the challenges faced by multinational corporations (MNCs). Studies in this area have tested the antecedents and consequences of standardisation/adaptation, but lack a new product development (NPD) perspective. In this study, we explore how product standardisation/adaptation is determined in the NPD context. Through a qualitative case study of four MNCs, we found three NPD approaches: multi-local, adaptation-based and platform-based. We analysed the advantages and challenges of each approach. In addition, we reveal how the factors (development of information and communication technology, competition pressure, brand awareness and technical capability) could influence the choice of a certain NPD approach. Through the establishment of a comprehensive evaluation index system, this paper analyzes the allocation of science and technology resources in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from 2014 to 2020, evaluates the allocation efficiency of science and technology resources from the perspective of multi input and output, and understands the advantages and disadvantages of regional resource allocation. The research results show that: (1) under the guidance of the national strategic policy of actively promoting the development of world-class urban agglomerations, the allocation efficiency of science and technology resources in various provinces and cities of the Yangtze River Delta continues to optimize, and the allocation level of some regions shows a rapid development trend; (2) R&D personnel and R&D funds are the core factors that affect the efficiency of science and technology resource allocation; (3) the marketization of resource allocation is helpful to improve its allocation efficiency; and (4) improving the transformation rate of scientific and technological achievements, opening up the channel for innovative products, technologies, and services to enter the market, and enabling innovative enterprises to make profits can provide strong and lasting incentives for the improvement of scientific and technological resource allocation efficiency. Based on the research conclusions, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve the allocation efficiency of scientific and technological resources in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from the aspects of human resources and material resources, and provides a theoretical reference for the coordinated and sustainable development of the Yangtze River Delta City Group under the background of the implementation of the urban agglomeration strategy and the construction of a scientific and technological infrastructure platform. This paper seeks to extend existing manufacturing system concepts and develop new structured knowledge about international manufacturing networks by analysing the networks, classifying the configurations and identifying the capabilities. The design and operation of international manufacturing networks is an increasingly important issue for transnational corporations faced with rapid changes in global market opportunity, competition and new managerial mechanisms. Four international manufacturing networks in mechanical and process industries are analysed and a number of conclusions drawn: first, a novel configuration map is proposed; second, key strategic capability parameters are identified; third, networking trends and their implications for configuration are discussed. The purpose of this paper is to provide a contribution to the development of R&D and transformation functional platforms by identifying key performance influencing factors in the use of data envelopment analysis (DEA) to analyze platform operation performance status and reasons. The DEA method is undertaken to calculate the comprehensive efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of R&D and transformation functional platforms in China's 30 provinces within the period 2016–2018. Based on the 2018 pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency calculations, the K-means clustering method was used to classify the R&D and transformation functional platforms of 30 provinces. Finally, according to the clustering results, the corresponding clustering improvement scheme is given. The operational level of R&D and transformation functional platforms in many provinces of China still needs to be improved: the R&D and transformation capabilities are weak, the market share of leading products is low, the ability of new technology value-added is insufficient, and the development of R&D and transformation functional platforms has regional imbalance. This study is based solely on statistical data, these data alone obviously cannot fully describe and evaluate the real state of R&D and transformation functional platform due to the complexity and diversity of platforms. Further research is needed to generalize beyond the performance indicators constructed in this paper. For the problems of low overall operation efficiency, unbalanced regional development, redundancy of input resources and lack of professional management personnel in the operation of R&D and transformation functional platforms, policy suggestions can be put forward according to clustering results and input and output adjustment values calculated based on relaxation variables. The study presenting a methodology for analyzing R&D and transformation functional platforms' operation performance, and the conclusions will provide reference for the development of platforms and high-tech industries. With the rising tide of globalization, urban branding campaigns have become the focal points of decision makers and planners aiming to establish city reputations and to achieve long-term urban prosperity. This paper, therefore, aims to develop a sustainability-oriented city branding framework that incorporates (1) comprehensive perceptions from various stakeholders through questionnaires and (2) empirical applications that evaluate the city-level potentials for a global mega-region in support of its sustainable growth. Seven major aspects, i.e., economic development, environment, potential, pulse, people, infrastructure, and governance, have been identified and assessed in the context of 26 prefecture cities in the Yangtze River Delta region. Moreover, a cluster analysis differentiated these cities into four groups with distinct characteristics and development paths. Through the framework and evaluation outputs, local planners, researchers, and decision-makers would be better placed to design and implement sustainable policy packages and incentives, with a quantitative insight into current strengths and weaknesses. This paper explores platform strategies along the business ecosystem lifecycle (BELC), based on a multiple-case study. Developing observations on platform strategies from a firm level to a business ecosystem level, the study investigates the issue of platform strategy through three views, respectively technology, application and organisation. As a result, a general evolutional pattern of platform strategy along the BELC is identified, where an open strategy emerges at the birth and expansion phases, then a dominating strategy rises at the authority phase, and finally the opportunistic strategy takes over at the renewal phase. This paper studies how the technological ecosystem extension facilitates the technology substitution in an emerging industry. Specifically, this paper has three findings: 1) the technological ecosystem with an expanded scope including supply, demand and intermediaries; 2) two type of ecosystem extension as the bottom-up and top-down ecosystem extension; 3) the determinants of sustaining the ecosystem extension. We have conducted in-depth interviews in the Chinese low-speed electric vehicle industry, which adopted the bottom-up ecosystem extension by comparing with the traditional car industry with top-down ecosystem extension to the emerging EV industry.
