Soft-switching technologies can effectively solve the problem of switching losses caused by increasing switching frequency of grid-connected inverters. As a branch of soft-switching technologies, load-side resonant soft-switching is a hotspot for applications of high-frequency inverters, because it has the advantage of achieving soft-switching without using additional components. However, the traditional PI control strategy based on the linear model is prone to destabilization and non-robust dynamic performance when large signal perturbation occurs. In this paper, a novel Passivity-Based Control (PBC) method is proposed to improve the dynamic performance of load-side resonant soft-switching grid-connected inverter. Besides, the model based on the Port Controlled Hamiltonian (PCH) model of the soft switching inverter is carried out, and the passivity-based controller is designed based on the established model using the way of interconnection and damping assignmentpassivity based control (IDA-PBC). Both stable performance and dynamic performance of the load-side resonant soft-switching inverter can be improved over the whole operating range. Finally, a 750 W load-side resonant soft-switching inverter simulation model is built and the output performance is compared with the traditional PI control strategy under stable and dynamic conditions. Purpose: This paper aims to solve the problems of large hard switching loss and unclear resonant parameter design in the existing inverter power supply topology. Design/methodology/approach: This paper proposes a simple and reliable two-stage isolated inverter composed of series quasi-resonant push-pull and external freewheeling diode full-bridge inverter. The power supply topology is analyzed, the topology mode is analyzed, the mathematical model of the converter is established and the DC gain of the converter is deduced. The relationship between the load and the output gain of the resonant tank is presented, a new resonant parameter design method is proposed, and the parameter design of the resonant element of the converter is clarified. Findings: The resonant components of the converter are designed according to the proposed resonant parameter design method, and the correctness of the method is verified by simulation and the development and testing of a 500 W experimental prototype. After experimental tests, the peak efficiency of the experimental prototype can reach 94%. Because the experimental prototype achieves soft switching, the heat generation of the switch is greatly reduced, so the heavy heat sink is removed, and the volume is reduced by about 30% compared with the traditional power supply, and the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage is about 2%. Originality/value: The feasibility of the scheme is verified by experiments, which is of great significance for improving the efficiency of the inverter power supply and parameter optimization. In this paper, a control scheme based on current optimization is proposed for dual three-phase permanent-magnet synchronous motor (DTP-PMSM) drive to reduce the low-frequency temperature swing. The reduction of temperature swing can be equivalent to reducing maximum instantaneous phase copper loss in this paper. First, a two-level optimization aiming at minimizing maximum instantaneous phase copper loss at each electrical angle is proposed. Then, the optimization is transformed to a singlelevel optimization by introducing the auxiliary variable for easy solving. Considering that singleobjective optimization trades a great total copper loss for a small reduction of maximum phase copper loss, the optimization considering both instantaneous total copper loss and maximum phase copper loss is proposed, which has the same performance of temperature swing reduction but with lower total loss. In this way, the proposed control scheme can reduce maximum junction temperature by 11%. The main contribution of this paper is to present a simple algorithm that theoretically and numerically assesses the switching angles of an inverter operated with the SPWM technique. This technique is the most widely used for eliminating harmonics in DC-AC converters for powering motors, renewable energy applications, household appliances, etc. Unlike conventional implementations of the SPWM technique based on the analog or digital comparison of a sinusoidal signal with a triangular signal, this paper mathematically performs this comparison. It proposes a simple solution to solve the transcendental equations arising from the mathematical analysis numerically. The technique is validated by calculating the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the generated signal theoretically and numerically, and the results indicate that the calculated angles produce the same distribution of harmonics calculated analytically and numerically. This paper proposes a single-phase, transformer-less, seven-level inverter that utilizes eight switches, three capacitors, and two diodes to produce seven voltage levels with triple boosting ability. The availability of the common-ground point eliminates the leakage current in PV applications. The proposed Transformer-Less Triple-Boosting Seven-Level Inverter (TLTB7LI) has the ability to feed different types of loads from non-unity to unity power factors. The voltage balancing of capacitors takes place naturally without the need for auxiliary circuits and complicated control strategies. This paper investigates the appropriateness of the proposed TLTB7LI for grid-connected application. The Peak Current Controller (PCC) is employed to generate the switching pulses and regulate the active/reactive power transfer between the converter and the output, which guarantees the high quality of injected current to the output. Moreover, the operational principles, its control technique, as well as the design procedure of the key components of the proposed inverter have been presented. The superiority of the proposed inverter over existing counterparts has been verified through comparative analysis. Photovoltaic inverters are widely utilized in microgrid systems working as the key equipment for converting solar energy into usable electricity. This paper presents a fuzzy sliding mode control (FSMC) method for the photovoltaic inverter in a microgrid. The inverter module uses voltage control to achieve stable AC output voltage. Moreover, to deal with system uncertainty and non-linearity in the photovoltaic inverter, a fuzzy controller was designed to realize real-time adaptation of the gains of the constant term and the reaching term in the sliding mode control law, which serves as a compensating controller for traditional sliding mode control. The gains of the exponential reaching law can be adjusted according to the system state instead of fixed gains, which can effectively reduce the chattering phenomenon and improve the robustness of the photovoltaic microgrid. Finally, the Lyapunov stability theory was used to ensure the stability of the entire control system, achieving a high-performance independent power supply for loads in a microgrid. This research paper introduces an innovative modulation technique for controlling a 3-level flying capacitor multilevel inverter (FCMLI), aiming to streamline the modulation process in contrast to conventional methods. The proposed simplified modulation technique paves the way for more straightforward and efficient control of multilevel inverters, enabling their widespread adoption and integration into modern power electronic systems. Through the amalgamation of sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) with a high-frequency square wave pulse, this controlling technique attains energy equilibrium across the coupling capacitor. In the three‐phase grid‐connected current‐source inverters (CSIs), the resonance result from the AC‐side CL filter and the quality of the grid‐current waveform under the unbalanced and harmonic grid voltage conditions are two issues deserving attention. To solve the two problems, a continuous control set‐model predictive control (CCS‐MPC) method based on the optimization theory is proposed in the two‐phase synchronous coordinate frame in this paper. The constructed cost function takes grid‐connected current and output current of the inverter as control target, and obtains its optimal solution under the least‐squares method, where the optimal inverter‐side current reference is composed of inductor‐current proportional feedback, capacitor‐voltage proportional feedback, and inverter‐side current steady‐state value feedforward. The proposed method can easily realize the normal operation of three‐phase grid‐connected CSIs because the method can be determined by only one parameter under the unbalanced and distorted grids. Furthermore, in the proposed method, the proportional feedback of capacitor voltage can effectively suppress the CL filter resonance. This paper proposes an input-parallel output-series (IPOS) Si-SiC hybrid inverter with dual-frequency harmonic elimination modulation strategy. The proposed topology composed of two power conversion cells and a three-phase five column medium-frequency step-down transformer, the low-frequency power conversion cell (LFPC-C, 1 kHz) leverages strong current-carrying capacity of silicon-based devices for dealing with the system main power, and the high frequency power conversion cell (HFPC-C, 30 kHz) based on wide-band-gap semiconductor SiC devices is used to addressing the fractional harmonics compensation power. This topology combines the strong current carrying capability of Si devices with the low switching loss of SiC devices at high frequency and achieves high quality power conversion at low cost and low loss. Compared to existing "IPOP" Si-SiC hybrid inverters, this topology adopts a coupling step-down transformer on the output side of both LFPC-C and HFPCC, which can effectively reduce current stress of HFPC-C SiC devices. Additionally, a dual-frequency harmonic elimination modulation strategy based on the topology is proposed to solve the fractional harmonics caused by the LFPC-C. The paper establishes a mathematical model according to the harmonic distribution characteristics of the LFPC-C and HFPC-C, and designs the system control schedules. Building upon the derivation of the voltage ripple model and the design of hardware parameters, Si IGBT and SiC MOSFET were selected for constructing a 7.5 kW prototype for testing, and the experimental results validate the feasibility of this topology and the accuracy of theoretical analysis. Power systems with a high proportion of inverter-based sources like photovoltaics require a substantial short-circuit current ratio to ensure strong voltage support capabilities. However, this also increases the system's short-circuit current capacity and levels, which may potentially affect the safe operation of system equipment and current-carrying conductors. To evaluate the operational risks, this paper proposes a quantitative calculation model for the critical integration proportion of grid-connected inverter-interfaced power sources based on short-circuit current over-limit probability. Firstly, according to the verification criterion about short-circuit current during the selection of the switching equipment and conductors in the power system, the short-circuit current over-limit probability evaluation system with five indices is established. Secondly, considering the impact of the increased grid integration proportion of inverter-based power sources on short-circuit currents, an evaluation process for operational risk probabilities is proposed. Based on this, the critical access proportion for inverter-based power source integration in the power grid can be calculated. Finally, the proposed model is used to assess the operational risk probability for a 220 kV system which includes a high proportion of inverter-based power sources in the Anhui area, China. Through the analysis of cumulative probability distribution curves, the critical grid integration proportion interval for the transition from normal to high proportion stages of inverter-based power sources is determined. The open-circuit fault is one of the most common faults of the automatic ramming drive system (ARDS), and it can be categorized into the open-phase faults of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and the open-circuit faults of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). The stator current serves as a common indicator for detecting open-circuit faults. Due to the identical changes of the stator current between the open-phase faults in the PMSM and failures of double switches within the same leg of the VSI, this paper utilizes the zero-sequence voltage component as an additional diagnostic criterion to differentiate them. Considering the variable conditions and substantial noise of the ARDS, a novel Multi-resolution Network (MrNet) is proposed, which can extract multi-resolution perceptual information and enhance robustness to the noise. Meanwhile, a feature weighted layer is introduced to allocate higher weights to characteristics situated near the feature frequency. Both simulation and experiment results validate that the proposed fault diagnosis method can diagnose 25 types of open-circuit faults and achieve more than 98:28% diagnostic accuracy. In addition, the experiment results also demonstrate that MrNet has the capability of diagnosing the fault types accurately under the interference of noise signals (Laplace noise and Gaussian noise). The phase circulating current (PCC) of the parallel three-phase inverter systems dramatically affects the power quality and conversion efficiency of the power grid. In this paper, a composite suppression strategy is proposed to solve the PCC issue by using the sliding mode control (SMC) approach and improved virtual impedance droop control. Taking the commonly used 2-group parallel three-phase inverter as an example, an inter- and intra-classification model is established by analyzing the sources of PCC. In order to suppress the inter-PCC, the traditional virtual impedance droop control is given, following the improved substitute by combining SMC. And the variables of the bus voltage, Q-U loop, P-f loop, and the virtual-induced reactance are also introduced for the robust control of the impedance droop. On the other side, a SMC-based suppression approach is designed to solve the issue of the intra-PCC. Its idea is to introduce a regulation factor for the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) so that the zero-sequence voltage can be eliminated and the influence of the intra-PCC can be relieved. In order to reduce the sampling delay and improve bandwidth, sability margin, and the robustness of the active damping in LCL-filtered grid-connected inverters, real-time sampling provides a convenient method. However, aliasing is easily introduced in the control loop because of high-frequency switching harmonics, resulting in a rise in low-order harmonics. To address the challenge of aliasing under real-time sampling, a new method based on multisampling and mean filtering is proposed by combining the proposed harmonic detection and control methods in this paper. This method works by sampling and controlling the fundamental current and selective subharmonic currents separately. The fundamental current control loop without any additional filters maintains real-time sampling, while multisampling and mean filters are applied to the harmonic current control loop. The proposed control method can not only improve the dynamic response performance and control stability of the system but also effectively suppress the selective low-order current harmonics and the aliasing of sampling. Finally, the correctness of the proposed sampling scheme and control strategy is verified by the simulation based on R2018b, MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA and an experimental prototype of a three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic inverter rated at 230 V/50 Hz/40 kW. The work is based on a collaboration between Hiroshima University and Kure KOSEN College. This paper presents the design concept, hardware, and applications of a single-phase synchronous inverter (SSI), a specially designed grid-forming inverter (GFM) for single-phase micro-grid (SMGs). The SSI is designed for the conventional 100/200 V distribution network and is based on the concept of "Non-Interference Core (NIC) dynamic model". Novel contributions of this paper are: (1) A root mean square (RMS) model of NIC-SSI was developed, combined with the conventional power system model, and verified through the comparison with the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation and SSI hardware experiments; (2) using the developed RMS simulation tool, the stabilization effect of the SSIs was investigated in condition under which the SSIs are massively installed in a distribution system; (3) off-grid SMG operations using SSIs under various ill-conditioned loads were demonstrated. The results show that the SSI has the considerable ability of grid stability enhancements for frequency, transient, and small-signal stabilities. The proposed SMG using SSIs is promising. In order to quantitatively analyze the electromagnetic exposure dose of an inverter in a pure electric vehicle to the driver's body and assess the safety of the electromagnetic exposure, based on a real human anatomy model in the virtual home project, a real human model with several organs and tissues, including muscles, bones, a heart, lungs, a liver, kidneys, a bladder, a skull, a scalp, white matter, and a cerebellum, was constructed. The inverter of a pure electric vehicle is considered to be the electromagnetic exposure source; for this study, an equivalent electromagnetic environment model composed of a real human body, an inverter, and a vehicle body was built. The distribution of induced fields in the driver's tissues and organs was calculated and analyzed using the finite element method. The results show that the distribution of the magnetic flux density, induced electric field, and induced current density in the driver's body was affected by the spatial distance of the inverter. The farther the distance was, the weaker the value was. Specifically, due to the different dielectric properties of the different tissues, the induced field in the different tissues was significantly different. However, the maximum magnetic flux density over the space occupied by the driver's body and induced electric field in the driver's trunk and central nervous system satisfied the exposure limits of the International Commission on Non-Ionization Radiation Protection, indicating that the electromagnetic environments generated by the inverter proposed in this paper are safe for the vehicle driver's health. The numerical results of this study could also effectively supplement the study of the electromagnetic environments of pure electric vehicles and provide some references for protecting the drivers of pure electric vehicles from electromagnetic radiation. The control technology of virtual synchronization generator (VSG) based on energy storage system is proposed to compensate for the inertia and damping loss caused by the grid connection of distributed generators. However, with the addition of virtual inertia and damping, VSG is prone to generate frequency and power oscillation, and the regulating ability is weakened. For the above problems, this paper analyzes the inertia and damping characteristics of the synchronous motor in the rotation of synchronous motors, and applies artificial neural network control to VSG. In intelligent control strategy, a multi‐input‐output radial basis function (RBF) neural network is first proposed to adaptively adjust virtual inertia and damping. Finally, an experimental platform with a rated power of 1 kW and a variable load of 1 kW was built to validate the proposed control strategy. With the increased grid-connected capacity of a single-phase distributed power supply, three-phase power unbalance is more likely to occur in a power grid. Three-phase power unbalance can further lead to three-phase voltage unbalance, which can have adverse effects on power quality and power supply reliability. Therefore, there is a need to build a three-phase power transmission channel to realize power exchanging among phases. In this paper, a novel grid-connected inverter control strategy for three-phase power exchanging is proposed based on constructed negative sequence current control. A completed negative sequence current control loop is added to a conventional three-bridge inverter to realize the decoupling control of three-phase grid current, and then three-phase power exchanging is realized. On this basis, this paper further puts forward a strategy for three-phase power exchanging aimed at three-phase voltage balance. Correspondingly, the three-phase grid current is controlled according to the feedback of the three-phase voltage. Then, three-phase voltage balance is achieved by three-phase power exchanging. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed strategy is suitable for a three-phase unbalanced power grid, which can realize three-phase power exchanging, and further, can achieve three-phase voltage balance. A lot of previous studies have shown a great interest in connecting photovoltaic (PV) arrays to electric power grids. A Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) controlled 100 kW PV array to boost its power that feeds the grid with the help of a three-level inverter. This paper investigated the effects of open-circuit faults of three-level inverter IGBT switches on the performance of the PV array system. This paper proposes a new diagnostic method called the Double Threshold-Trigonometric Coordinates (DT-TC) that relies on the double threshold technique and the trigonometric coordinates, respectively, for early detection and the precise location of open-circuit faults. To the best knowledge of the authors, two simultaneous open-circuit faults were not considered in the previous studies. The obtained simulation results prove the great success of the proposed diagnosis method even under noticeable changes in irradiation, temperature, and the number of PV array connected in series and in parallel. In this study, the reconfigurable fault-tolerant inverter was included to ensure the perfect continuity of the PV array system and its recovery in an extremely very short time up to 7 ms. This paper introduces a novel three‐phase grid‐tied multilevel inverter (MLI) topology that employs a basic unit per phase, yielding a symmetrical configuration capable of generating five‐level output voltage and an asymmetrical configuration producing seven‐level and nine‐level output voltages. The generalization of the proposed MLI is presented in terms of the number of modules (M) and output levels (L). A comprehensive comparative analysis of the proposed MLI topology against existing configurations is presented for both symmetric and asymmetric cases. The switching devices in the MLI are controlled using the in‐phase disposition level shift PWM (IPD‐LSPWM) technique. The synchronization of the grid‐tied MLI is addressed by considering the uncertainties in grid and load parameters at the point of common coupling (PCC). To achieve synchronization, a PLL‐less grid voltage‐ modulated direct power control (GVM‐DPC) technique is implemented. To mitigate the delay associated with PLL, a GVM‐DPC based on the stationary reference frame (SRF) is applied. This paper also includes mathematical modelling of GVM‐DPC without PLL and the design of an LCL filter. A simulation model of a 15‐kVA, three‐phase, nine‐level grid‐tied MLI is developed in MATLAB/Simulink and tested under both steady‐state and dynamic conditions. The proposed controller's performance is evaluated under the load variations and sudden changes in available power from the distributed generator (DG). Robustness is tested under adverse conditions such as voltage sag/swell at the PCC. Furthermore, the system is implemented in the OPAL‐RT OP4510 real‐time simulator, and the results are validated to confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed grid‐tied MLI. A three‐level neutral point clamped (3L‐NPC) voltage source inverter (VSI) topology can be advantageous in electric vehicles with a high DC‐link voltage and a high switching frequency. A bulky DC‐link capacitor is not an option; thus, the DC‐link capacitor's sizing considering the traction system characteristics is an important design step. This paper investigates how the DC‐link capacitor size of a 3L‐NPC VSI gets affected by the combination of the interdependent characteristics of an electric drive, such as its power factor, modulation index, current, and fundamental frequency, with the effects of the modulation methods. Five pulse width modulation (PWM) methods, of which three of them have an active neutral point potential control, are compared in terms of their neutral point potential (NPP) oscillations. Then, the size of the DC‐link capacitor is determined for each PWM method so that the NPP ripple is kept under desired limits at all operating conditions. It is shown that both the modulation technique and the electric machine characteristics influence the capacitor size. For example, electric machine design modifications can introduce more than a 30% reduction in capacitor size. In weak grid, feedforward of grid voltage control is widely used to effectively suppress grid-side current distortion of inverters caused by harmonics in point of common coupling (PCC) voltage. However, due to its introduction of a positive feedback loop related to the grid impedance, it results in a significant reduction in the system phase margin. In view of this, in this paper, the output impedance of a three-phase LCL grid-connected inverter under a quasi-proportional resonant (QPR) controller is first modeled. Instead of the traditional grid voltage feedforward control strategy, a band-pass filter is added to the grid voltage feedforward channel. Secondly, a multi-objective constraint method is proposed to make improvements to the feedforward function. Then, a multi-objective constraint function is established with the constraints of base-wave current tracking performance, system stability margin, and low-frequency amplitude, and the feasibility of its function optimization design method is verified. Theoretical analysis shows that the optimized grid voltage feedforward control strategy can effectively reshape the phase characteristics of the system output impedance, which greatly broadens the adaptation range of the system to the grid impedance. This paper presents development of a hardware simulator for the DC–AC inverters of electric compressors (e-compressors). In general, early-release EVs often feature a nominal battery voltage of around 400 V. However, EVs with a 400 V battery have drawbacks such as slow battery charging speeds and limited driving distances. To overcome these drawbacks, the nominal battery voltage has recently been increased from 400 V to around 800 V. Accordingly, research on electrical components applicable to EVs with an 800 V battery has been conducted. However, research on the DC–AC inverter used in the e-compressor, as a core component of an electric air conditioning system for EVs with 800 V battery, is insufficient. Therefore, the development of a hardware simulator of DC–AC inverters for the e-compressors used in EVs with an 800 V battery is proposed in this paper. In this paper an efficient, compact, and cheap power source design for an off-grid PV water pumping system is investigated. The proposed system consists of a PV array, battery, three-port converter (TPC), three-phase voltage source inverter, and induction motor pump. Power is extracted from PV sources during the daytime and used to charge batteries through the three-port converter, then used later to supply load during the nighttime. An intelligent MPPT method is used to obtain PV maximum power; a jellyfish optimization technique with different control algorithms is used to optimize and tune controllers' parameters among the system. Different modes for the TPC are discussed depending on PV power availability. The proposed system is simulated to assess system performance under different conditions; also the system is efficient with reduced number of components than conventional converters. A complete unified power management over PV input port, battery port, and load port has occurred for all operation modes. At all operation modes, the system has been feeding load without any unmet loads. A real case study in Al-Kharijah oasis is studied and simulation results are listed; for the Dom case DC bus ripple factor voltage percentage equals 0.8%, in the Dim case equals 3%, and in the Siso mode equals 9%. To reduce the influence of voltage harmonics on the grid current, a control strategy based on adaptive quasi-proportional phase compensated resonance (QPR_PC) is proposed. Firstly, the LCL grid-connected photovoltaic inverter system model is established, and the stability performance of the three-level inverter system under double closed-loop control is analyzed using the output impedance model of the inverter. Then, a QPR regulator for the zero steady-state error tracking of AC signals is studied. To solve the problem that the system has poor robustness against frequency changes when the traditional QPR regulator is used in the static coordinate system, this paper improves the traditional QPR regulator to optimize the response characteristics of the closed-loop system. Based on the QPR regulator, a phase margin compensation structure is introduced to form QPR_PC control. Then adaptive frequency design is added to ensure good control even when the power grid frequency drifts, which is the control strategy proposed in this paper. Verification shows that the proposed method improves the phase margin of output impedance at a specific frequency, restrains the interference of the 3rd, 5th, and 7th harmonics of grid voltage, and improves the dynamic performance of the system and the quality of grid-connected current. Finally, the simulation results show that the total harmonic distortion rate of grid-connected current is reduced by 1.03% after adopting this strategy, which verifies the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed method. Inverter is required to operate at both grid-connected and grid-forming mode for microgrid. When an unplanned microgrid disconnecting to grid circumstance happens, the transition will cause severe current shock to system with multi-parallel microgrid inverters. This paper adopts a dynamic virtual resistance-based droop control strategy and small signal analysis method to reduce the current shock, improve the system stability and safety. The large dynamic virtual resistance is added to the control loop when the mode transition event occurs so the shock current is limited. Comparison between the capacitor current feedback for seamless mode transition method and the proposed method is made to prove the validation, and parameters' impact on the system is also analyzed. Results, which are conducted on MATLAB/Simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) experimental platform verify the feasibility of the proposed method in this paper, effectively reduce the current shock by more than 60%. The conventional single variable indirect model predictive control (SIMPC) of LCL‐type three‐level grid‐ connected inverter (GCI) is to indirectly control the grid current by controlling the output current of the inverter, which usually produces large errors and reduces the system anti‐disturbance performance. Although the previously proposed multivariable weighted model predictive control (MWMPC) method of LCL‐type GCI can directly control many variables, such as grid current, it requires setting the weight coefficient for each variable and involves a substantial amount of calculation. To due with these problems, this paper proposes a multivariable sequential model predictive control (MSMPC) method for LCL‐type three‐level GCI. The inverter output current, the filter capacitor voltage, and the grid current are gradually predicted and optimized under the variable control sequence of the LCL‐type GCI mathematical model. Under the premise of achieving direct control of the variables above, this method can reduce the number of weighting coefficients and gradually contract the optimization space to reduce the computation required for multivariable prediction and optimization. Emulation of an electric machine allows the testing of a drive inverter and controller of an electric drive system, prior to the manufacture of a machine prototype. This paper presents the emulation of a variable flux machine (VFM). The VFM emulator system proposed in this paper uses a detailed look-up table-based machine model for the purpose of emulation. This allows the emulator to mimic all machine magnetic and geometric behaviors such as saturation and torque ripple. In addition, the machine emulator proposed in this paper uses high-performance high-bandwidth linear amplifiers as power amplifiers. This enables a high bandwidth; leading to a high accuracy machine emulation. A detailed control description for the proposed machine emulator system and a machine model look-up table data verification against a prototype machine is initially presented. Experimental results are then presented to validate the utility of the proposed VFM emulator system to emulate various machine transient behaviors at different magnetization levels. Experimental results obtained from the emulator are subsequently compared against the experimental results obtained from a prototype VFM drive to verify the emulation accuracy. The negative-sequence current component and harmonic components generated when an asymmetrical fault occurs in the power grid seriously affect the normal operation of the photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected inverter. In order to suppress the negative-sequence current component and the harmonic component of the grid-connected current, and to meet the normal grid-connected operation requirements of the PV grid-connected inverter when asymmetrical faults occur in the grid, this paper proposes the proportional integral double-resonant (PI-DR) current controller, which consists of the PI controller and double-resonant controllers. The PI-DR current controller can directly control the negative-sequence current component and the grid-connected current harmonic component in the output current in the forward synchronous rotating coordinate system, without decomposing the positive and negative sequence currents. The PI-DR current controller ensures that the PV grid-connected inverter can realize normal grid-connected operation and improves the quality of the power when an asymmetrical fault occurs in the power grid. This paper presents a single-phase seven level Cascaded H-Bridge DC-Link (CHBDCL) inverter for marine electric propulsion drives. The speed of propulsion drive can be changed by CHBDCL inverter by converting DC output from the rectifier to variable output voltage with or without change in frequency. The proposed CHBDCL inverter generates more output voltage with minimum harmonic content than classical Multilevel Inverters (MLIs). The CHBDCL inverter necessitates only 'm + 3' power devices for 'm' number of levels, although the classical MLIs requires '(2m − 1)' power devices. CHBDCL inverter can have the effective performance by utilizing unipolar Sine Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and unipolar Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) with sine carrier. The effectiveness of the proposed CHBDCL inverter topology has been verified by using MATLAB/SIMULINK for various modulation indices in terms of voltage levels and harmonic analysis. It is simple to implement conventional current control with a proportional integral (PI) controller. However, system stability and dynamic performance are not perfect, particularly when operating under unfavorable conditions. In this paper, an improved control method is proposed by introducing a compensation unit. The compensation unit can effectively compensate the system's phase around the crossover frequency, greatly enhancing the system's phase margin and stability. It is also capable of handling weak-grid conditions. In this paper, the concept of the proposed compensation unit is explained first. Then, the corresponding mathematical model for the current control loop is built, and system bode diagrams for the conventional and proposed methods are compared. Furthermore, the effect of the parameters for the compensation unit is investigated, and an optimization method is proposed to determine optimal parameters. In addition, to handle weak-grid conditions, the proposed scheme is expanded by including the compensation unit in the grid's feed-forward loop. Many advanced power electronics control techniques present a steep computational load, demanding advanced controllers, such as FPGAs. However, FPGA development is a daunting and time-consuming task, inaccessible to most users. This paper proposes a complete methodology for prototyping power electronics with Xilinx Zynq-based boards using Matlab/Simulink and HDL Coder. Even though these tools are relatively well documented, and several works in the literature have used them, a methodology for developing power electronics systems with them has never been proposed. This paper aims to address that, by proposing a complete programming and design methodology for Zynq-based power electronics and discussing important drawbacks and hurdles in Simulink/HDL Coder development, as well as their possible solutions. In addition, techniques for the implementation of all required peripherals (ADCs, digital outputs, etc.), system protections, and real-time data acquisition on Zynq boards are presented. This methodology considerably reduces the development time and effort of power electronics solutions using Zynq-based boards. In addition, a demonstration Simulink model is provided with all proposed techniques and protections, for use with a readily available development board (Zedboard) and ADC modules. This should further reduce the learning curve and development effort of this type of solution, contributing to a broader access to high-performance control prototyping using Zynq-based platforms. As the inverter-based generation replaces the conventional synchronous generators, it may also need to fill in the missing ancillary service support. One of these ancillary services is dynamic reactive power provision and voltage control. This paper analyzes optimal strategy of reactive and active fault-current support of the inverter-based generation leading to fast voltage recovery of the system. For the purpose of the analysis, new ramping active current controller able to emulate different behavior of active current injection is proposed. By optimizing its parameters for different case studies of the system, the conclusions about optimal behavior of the inverter based generation with respect to system parameters and operating conditions are drawn. It is observed that the optimal combination of active and reactive fault-current is the most sensitive to the dynamic load component penetration levels in the system. With the increasing penetration levels, the significance of active fault-current injection increases. The results show that with higher penetration levels of dynamic load component in the heavy load areas, the ramping down of the inverter-based generation active fault-current results in slower voltage recovery of the system. In the neutral point clamped (NPC) three-level inverter-permanent magnet synchronous motor system, traditional model predictive current control (MPCC) uses the system predictive model to traverse the 27 basic voltage vectors, to achieve the d-q axis current component and neutral point voltage of the multi-objective optimal control. Finite control set model predictive control predicts the state change of the control target at future moments based on a finite number of switching states of the inverter. The control principle of this method is simple and easy to implement, but the control effectiveness of this control strategy is limited because only one basic vector can be selected as the optimum output per control period. In this paper, a model predictive current control strategy based on an extended control set (ECS-MPCC) is proposed, which can improve the control performance of the system by extending the control set to select multiple vectors in a single control period compared to the traditional strategy. In addition, to address the disadvantage of extending virtual space vectors leading to an increase in computation, this paper proposes a fast search method for optimal vector based on region reduction. The proposed method avoids the optimization process traversing all virtual space vectors, thus enabling a fast search for the optimal vector. Reliability of power converter in the electric drivetrain of a vehicle can be a criterion for the comparison of various converter topologies, cooling system designs and control strategies. Therefore, reliability prediction is important for the design and control of vehicles. This paper presents an approach for quantitative evaluation of the reliability of converters for multiphase motor drives for electric vehicles (EVs) after considering the driving cycle. This paper provides a good background of reliability quantification so that it is easy to extend the presented approach to other applications. The models of subsystems have been selected to have excellent computational efficiency with good accuracy which is necessary for simulating long driving cycles. A simple vehicle model is used to obtain the traction motor torque demand for various points of the driving cycle. A multiphase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor has been used for traction motor. The operating voltage and currents of the motor are found using maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control of IPMSM. The analytical loss calculation has been used to find the losses of switching devices of the converter. A thermal model of silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET has been used to calculate junction temperature from the losses. The model developed here gives the failure rate and mean time between failures (MTBF) of switching devices of the inverter, which can be used to determine the failure rate. This paper proposes a control strategy for grid-following inverter control and grid-forming inverter control developed for a Solar Photovoltaic (PV)–battery-integrated microgrid network. A grid-following (GFL) inverter with real and reactive power control in a solar PV-fed system is developed; it uses a Phase Lock Loop (PLL) to track the phase angle of the voltages at the PCC and adopts a vector control strategy to adjust the active and reactive currents that are injected into the power grid. The drawback of a GFL inverter is that it lacks the capability to operate independently when the utility grid is down due to outages or disturbances. The proposed grid-forming (GFM) inverter control with a virtual synchronous machine provides inertia to the grid, generates a stable grid-like voltage and frequency and enables the integration of the grid. The proposed system incorporates a battery energy storage system (BESS) which has inherent energy storage capability and is independent of geographical areas. The GFM control includes voltage and frequency control, enhanced islanding and black start capability and the maintenance of the stability of the grid-integrated system. The proposed model is validated under varying irradiance conditions, load switching, grid outages and temporary faults with fault ride-through (FRT) capability, and fast frequency response and stability are achieved. The proposed model is validated under varying irradiance conditions, load switching, grid outages and line faults incorporating fault ride-through capability in GFM-based control. The proposed controller was simulated in a 100 MW solar PV system and 60 MW BESS using the MATLAB/Simulink 2023 tool, and the experimental setup was validated in a 1 kW grid-connected system. The percentage improvement of the system frequency and voltage with FRT-capable GFM control is 69.3% and 70%, respectively, and the percentage improvement is only 3% for system frequency and 52% for grid voltage in the case of an FRT-capable GFL controller. This paper presents a state‐space average model of a three‐level photovoltaic (PV) inverter to understand short‐circuit currents transient characteristics. Analytical solution of the model is also derived. The proposed model is validated with PV system controller hardware in‐loop (HIL) test method. The errors between simulation and HIL tests results under various conditions are evaluated, testifying the validity of the proposed model. With the model and analytical solution, the decaying time constants of sub‐transient and transient processes are derived, which shows that the time constants of a three‐level PV inverter are not fixed and they vary with voltage dips. The analytical expression of short‐circuit currents is also formulated. The findings from this study are essential to short‐circuit current calculations of a power grid with large‐scale PV plants, coordination of power system protections, and grid planning. This paper presents a new electric drive-reconfigured on-board charger and initial electromagnetic torque suppression method. This proposed reconfigured on-board charger does not need many components added to the original electric drive system: only a connector is needed, which is easy to add. Specifically, the inverter for propulsion is reconfigured as a buck chopper and a conduction path to match the reconfigured windings. Two of the machine phase windings serve as inductors, while the third phase winding is reutilized as a common-mode inductor. In addition, the initial charging torque is generated at the outset of the charging process, which may cause an instant shock or even rotational movement. In order to prevent vehicle movement, the reason for the charging torque and suppression method were analyzed. Further, predictive control of the model based on mutual inductance analysis was adopted, where the charging torque was directly used as a control object in the cost function. Modern power systems have several measurement devices for reliable, safe, and improved operation and control. Due to the high infiltration of inverter‐based resources, protecting modern power systems has become challenging. This paper proposes a new protection scheme based on the computation of 'discrepant impedance' using real‐time protocol services for data exchange. The sampled values of voltages and currents are transmitted to a central processing unit to implement the protection scheme. With the development of digital instrument transformers (IEC 61869‐9), the current and voltage samples are directly interfaced wired or wirelessly to the IEC 61850‐9‐2 process bus. The proposed protection scheme is validated with grid forming and grid following inverters on Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions (CERTS) microgrid network using a real‐time digital simulator. Inertia is the core index of the estimation of power system frequency stability; a simple estimation method of grid‐forming inverter inertia based on the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) is proposed in this paper. The method records and fits the active power curve by applying RoCoF to obtain the value of the grid‐forming inverter inertia, and it is simpler and higher accuracy compared to existing methods. In addition, the inertia and damping are analysed to support the system, and the relationship equation between the grid frequency slope change and the output active power is derived. Considering the theoretical analyses and influencing factors, the inertia and damping are obtained by using the method of function fitting. The test steps show the simplicity of the proposed test method. This paper presents an analysis of the fault current contributions of small‐scale single‐phase photovoltaic inverters under grid‐connected operation and their potential impact on the protection of distribution systems. To conduct this analysis, an autotransformer‐based voltage dip generator is proposed as a means to test the photovoltaic inverters' contribution to short‐circuit currents. Laboratory tests are then performed to obtain the short‐circuit current contribution of eight single‐phase photovoltaic inverters. Using the short‐circuit current data obtained, a behaviour model is developed and simulated on Matlab‐Simulink. The model is then applied to a real distribution system and case studies are conducted to simulate the potential impacts on the protection system. Results indicate that while the massive penetration of small‐scale single‐phase photovoltaic inverters can alter the protection system's operating time, the impacts are not significant. Only in very specific scenarios, such as events related to high impedance faults, some impact can be observed. In these situations, the presence of photovoltaic inverters further complicates the already difficult task of identifying high impedance faults through conventional overcurrent protections. This study provides valuable insights into the integration of photovoltaic inverters into distribution systems, and can aid in the development of effective protection measures for future grid designs. In recent years, there has been a trend toward expanding the operating frequency range and increasing the output power of Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) systems to enhance their acoustic detection capabilities. However, due to this increase in operational power, the electrical capacity of amplifiers for SONAR system operation also increases, necessitating High-Power Amplifiers. When configured with a single amplifier, as in conventional methods, the volume of amplifiers increases due to volumetric increases in heat dissipation, components, and windings. These issues are detrimental to SONAR amplifier installation, mobility, maintenance, and equipment lifespan due to stress on individual components. Additionally, amplifiers for SONAR systems are comprised of power conversion devices, transformers for LC filters and matching, necessitating consideration of LC filters and matching transformers for enhancing voltage quality and efficiency to improve amplifier performance transmitted to SONAR transducers. However, previous research has focused on single-amplifier design methods, neglecting such considerations. Therefore, this paper proposes a design technique that overcomes the drawbacks of using the conventional design method by configuring multiple H-bridge inverters in a cascade format and utilizes one of the optimization algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), to derive amplifier design techniques that optimize component parameters for enhancing high-capacity amplifier performance. Subsequently, theoretical analysis, simulations, and experimental results comparing the proposed high-power amplifier design method with conventional single-amplifier design methods demonstrate similar error rates in operational frequency bands. The four-level active neutral point clamped (ANPC) inverter has become increasingly widely used in the renewable energy industry since it offers one more voltage level without increasing the total number of active switches compared to the three-level ANPC inverter. The model predictive current control (MPCC) is a promising control method for multi-level inverters. However, the conventional MPCC suffers from high computational complexity and tedious weighting factor tuning in multi-level inverter applications. A low-complexity MPCC without weighting factors for a four-level ANPC inverter is proposed in this paper. Compared with the traditional grid-following photovoltaic grid-connected converter (GFL-PGC), the grid-forming photovoltaic grid-connected converter (GFM-PGC) can provide voltage and frequency support for power systems, which can effectively enhance the stability of power electronic power systems. Consequently, GFM-PGCs have attracted great attention in recent years. When an asymmetrical short-circuit fault occurs in the power grid, GFM-PGC systems may experience transient instability, which has been less studied so far. In this paper, a GFM-PGC system is investigated under asymmetrical short-circuit fault conditions. A novel Q-V droop control structure is proposed by improving the traditional droop control. The proposed control structure enables the system to accurately control the positive- and negative-sequence reactive current without switching the control strategy during the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) period so that it can meet the requirements of the renewable energy grid code. In addition, a dual-loop control structure model of positive- and negative-sequence voltage and current is established for the GFM-PGC system under asymmetrical short-circuit fault conditions. Based on the symmetrical component method, the composite sequence network of the system is obtained under asymmetrical short-circuit fault conditions, and positive- and negative-sequence power-angle characteristic curves are analyzed. The influence law of system parameters on the transient synchronous stability of positive- and negative-sequence systems is quantitatively analyzed through the equal area criterion. Purpose: Static inverters are very important for the emergency energy distribution system of aircraft and similar machines. At the same time, the electrical energy produced at high frequency for electrical devices is used to reduce the weight of the cables in the aircraft and spacecraft because of the skin effect. In the high-frequency system, a thinner cable cross-section is used, and a great weight reduction occurs in the aircraft. So, fuel economy, less and late wear of the materials (landing gear, etc.) can be obtained with decreasing weight. This paper aims to present the development of a functional multilevel inverter (FMLI) with fractional sinus pulse width modulation (FSPWM) and a reduced number of switches to provide high-frequency and quality electrical energy conversion. Design/methodology/approach: After the production of FSPWM for FMLI with a reduced component, which, to the best of the authors' knowledge, is presented for the first time in this study, is explained step by step, and eight operating states are given according to different FSPWMs operating the circuit. The designed inverter and modulation technique are compared by testing the conventional modular multilevel inverter on different loads. Findings: According to application results, it is seen that there is a 50% reduction in cross-section from 100 Hz to 400 Hz with the skin effect. At 1000 Hz, there is a 90% cross-section reduction. The decrease can be in cable weights that may occur in aircraft from 10 kg to 100 kg according to different frequencies. It causes less harmonic distortion than conventional converters. This supports the safer operation of the system. Compared to the traditional system, the proposed system provides more amplitude in converting the source to alternating voltage and increases the efficiency. Practical implications: FSPWM is developed for multilevel inverters with reduced components at the high frequency and cascaded switching studies in the power electronics of aircraft. Social implications: Although the proposed system has less current and power loss as mentioned in the previous sections, it contains fewer power elements than conventional inverters that are equivalent for different hardware levels. This not only reduces the cost of the system but also provides ease of maintenance. To reduce the cable load in aircraft and create more efficient working conditions, 400 Hz alternative voltage is used. The proposed system causes less losses and lower harmonic distortions than traditional systems. This will reduce possible malfunctions and contribute to aircraft reliability for passengers and cargo. As technology develops, it is revealed that the proposed inverter system will be more efficient than traditional inverters when devices operating at frequencies higher than 400 Hz are used. With the proposed inverter, safer operation will be ensured, while there will be less energy loss, less fuel consumption and less carbon emissions to the environment. The increasing popularity of electric drives employing an isolated dual-inverter (DI) topology is motivated by their superior DC-link voltage and power utilization, fault-tolerant operation, and potential for multilevel operation. These attributes are significant in battery-powered transportation, such as electric vehicles and aviation. Given the considerable freedom in modulation and control of the DI topology, this paper researches the impact of reference voltage vector distribution between the two individual inverters. The study also evaluates the influence of two well-established asynchronous modulation strategies—Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) and Depenbrock's Discontinuous Modulation (DPWM1). Since simulation tools nowadays play a crucial role in power electronics design and concept verification, the results are based on extensive and detailed models in Matlab/Simulink. Employing the basic field-oriented control of a 12 kW induction motor with precisely parameterized SiC switching devices for accurate loss calculation, this research reveals the possibility of significant energy savings at multiple operating points. Notably, optimal efficiency is achieved when one inverter operates up to half of the nominal speed while the other solely establishes a neutral point for the winding.
