Abstract Herein, a robust microporous aluminum tetracarboxylate framework, MIL‐120(Al)‐AP, (MIL, AP: Institute Lavoisier and Ambient Pressure synthesis, respectively) is reported, which exhibits high CO2 uptake (1.9 mmol g−1 at 0.1 bar, 298 K). In situ Synchrotron X‐ray diffraction measurements together with Monte Carlo simulations reveal that this structure offers a favorable CO2 capture configuration with the pores being decorated with a high density of µ2‐OH groups and accessible aromatic rings. Meanwhile, based on calculations and experimental evidence, moderate host‐guest interactions Qst (CO2) value of MIL‐120(Al)‐AP (−40 kJ mol−1) is deduced, suggesting a relatively low energy penalty for full regeneration. Moreover, an environmentally friendly ambient pressure green route, relying on inexpensive raw materials, is developed to prepare MIL‐120(Al)‐AP at the kilogram scale with a high yield while the Metal‐ Organic Framework (MOF) is further shaped with inorganic binders as millimeter‐sized mechanically stable beads. First evidences of its efficient CO2/N2 separation ability are validated by breakthrough experiments while operando IR experiments indicate a kinetically favorable CO2 adsorption over water. Finally, a techno‐economic analysis gives an estimated production cost of ≈ 13 $ kg−1, significantly lower than for other benchmark MOFs. These advancements make MIL‐120(Al)‐AP an excellent candidate as an adsorbent for industrial‐scale CO2 capture processes.

Abstract Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells (PK/Si TSCs) blaze the way in pushing power conversion efficiency (PCE) beyond the single‐junction Shockley–Queisser limit. Meanwhile, localized defects in perovskite subcells result in a lower fill factor (FF), which limits further improvement of PCE in PK/Si TSCs. Herein, we report a conductive passivation contact layer by posttreatment of bis(2‐hydroxyethyl)dimethylammonium chloride (BDAC) zwitterion molecule on the perovskite surface. It can passivate the positive and negative localized defects, inhibit the formation of Pb0, and spontaneously convert the perovskite surface to be a more n‐type conductive contact layer for charge separation. These combined enhancements enabled a PCE of 21.4% with an enhanced VOC of 80 mV and an FF of 82.84% for the inverted single‐junction device prepared by the two‐step method. Moreover, BDAC passivation achieved a PCE of 28.67% with an FF of 80.02% for PK/Si TSCs. In addition, the scaling‐up device with an active area of 11.879 cm2 delivers a PCE of 24.46%, and a minimodule with power conversion over 2 W is designed and fabricated.

Abstract Passivating contactsin heterojunction (HJ) solar cells have shown great potential in reducing recombination losses, and thereby achieving high power conversion efficiencies in photovoltaic devices. In this direction, carbon nanomaterials have emerged as a promising option for carbon/silicon (C/Si) HJsolar cells due to their tunable band structure, wide spectral absorption, high carrier mobility, and properties such as multiple exciton generation. However, the current limitations in efficiency and active area have hindered the industrialization of these devices. In this review, they examine the progress made in overcoming these constraints and discuss the prospect of achieving high power conversion efficiency (PCE) C/Si HJ devices. A C/Si HJ solar cell is also designed by introducing an innovative interface passivation strategy to further boost the PCE and accelerate the large area preparationof C/Si devices. The physical principle, device design scheme, and performanceoptimization approaches of this passivated C/Si HJ cells are discussed. Additionally, they outline potential future pathways and directions for C/Si HJ devices, including a reduction in their cost to manufacture and their incorporation intotandem solar cells. As such, this review aims to facilitate a deeperunderstanding of C/Si HJ solar cells and provide guidance for their further development.

Abstract In this paper, we review the integration of microfluidic chips and computer vision, which has great potential to advance research in the life sciences and biology, particularly in the analysis of cell imaging data. Microfluidic chips enable the generation of large amounts of visual data at the single-cell level, while computer vision techniques can rapidly process and analyze these data to extract valuable information about cellular health and function. One of the key advantages of this integrative approach is that it allows for noninvasive and low-damage cellular characterization, which is important for studying delicate or fragile microbial cells. The use of microfluidic chips provides a highly controlled environment for cell growth and manipulation, minimizes experimental variability and improves the accuracy of data analysis. Computer vision can be used to recognize and analyze target species within heterogeneous microbial populations, which is important for understanding the physiological status of cells in complex biological systems. As hardware and artificial intelligence algorithms continue to improve, computer vision is expected to become an increasingly powerful tool for in situ cell analysis. The use of microelectromechanical devices in combination with microfluidic chips and computer vision could enable the development of label-free, automatic, low-cost, and fast cellular information recognition and the high-throughput analysis of cellular responses to different compounds, for broad applications in fields such as drug discovery, diagnostics, and personalized medicine.

Zr–Sn and Zr–Sn–Nb alloys were joined using current-induced solid-state welding. This process led to significant plastic deformation in Zr alloy, resulting in a robust welded joint. The Cu particles, oxides, and other impurities were scattered at the interface. Two distinct microstructures, basketweave-parallel-plate and basketweave-plate, emerged in the weld's center, attributable to varying thermal cycles. The average grain size in Zr–Sn–Nb alloy was smaller than in Zr–Sn alloy side. During the welding of Zr–Sn–Nb alloy, the majority of β-Nb secondary phases particles (SPPs) dissolved. Conversely, in Zr–Sn alloy, elongated, irregular ZrFe2 SPPs were observed between the α plates. The joint formation was influenced significantly by initial slip, twin-induced plasticity (TWIP), and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) mechanisms. The joint's burst force was measured between 8790 and 8890 N, and the fractures occurred at a location distant from the weld.

Underground coal gasification (UCG) is an efficient method for the conversion of deep coal resources into energy. The scope of this work is to model the subsidence of four gasification cavities with a size of 30 m × 30 m × 15 m, separated by 15 m wide pillars. Two scenarios of gasification sequence are modelled, one with the gasification of cavities 1 and 2 followed by 3 and 4, and the other one with the sequence of cavities 1 and 3, followed by 2 and 4. The results show that the final surface subsidence after gasification of four cavities is 9.8 mm and the gasification sequence has an impact only on the subsidence at the intermediate stage but has no impact on the final subsidence after all four cavities are formed, when only the elasticity regime is considered. Additionally, the maximum surface subsidence for the studied cavities of different sizes ranges from 0.016 mm to 7.14 mm, and the relationship between the subsidence and the cavity volume is approximately linear. Finally, a prediction model of surface subsidence deformation is built up using the elastic plate theory, and the formula of surface deformation at a random point is given. The maximum difference between measured and calculated deformation is 4.6%, demonstrating that the proposed method can be used to predict the ground subsidence induced by UCG.

Particulate matter pollution could increase the risk of kidney disease, while evidence for ozone exposure is less well-established. Here, we aimed to evaluate the effect of ozone pollution on renal function and explore mechanisms. We first conducted a cross-sectional study based on Wuhan Chronic Disease Cohort Study baseline information. We recruited 2699 eligible participants, estimated their residential ozone concentrations, collected fasting peripheral blood samples for biochemical analysis and calculated the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The linear regression model was applied to evaluate the long-term association between ozone pollution and eGFR. Then, we recruited another 70 volunteers as a panel with 8 rounds follow-up visits. We calculated the eGFR and measured fasting blood glucose and lipid levels. The linear mixed-effect model along with mediation analysis were performed to confirm the short-term association and explore potential mechanisms, respectively. For the long-term association, a 10.95 μg/m3 increment of 3-year ozone exposure was associated with 2.96 mL/min/1.73 m2 decrease in eGFR (95%CI: −4.85, −1.06). Furthermore, the drinkers exhibited a pronounced declination of eGFR (−7.46 mL/min/1.73 m2, 95%CI: −11.84, −3.08) compared to non-drinkers in relation to ozone exposure. Additionally, a 19.02 μg/m3 increase in 3-day ozone concentrations was related to 2.51 mL/min/1.73 m2 decrease in eGFR (95%CI: −3.78, −1.26). Hyperglycemia and insulin resistance mediated 12.2% and 16.5% of the aforementioned association, respectively. Our findings indicated that higher ozone pollution could affect renal function, and the hyperglycemia and insulin resistance linked to ozone might be the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract Various catalysts are developed to improve the performance of metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors, but achieving high selectivity and response intensity in chemiresistive gas sensors (CGSs) remains a significant challenge. In this study, an in situ‐annealing approach to synthesize Cu catalytic sites on ultrathin WO2.72 nanowires for detecting toluene at ultralow concentrations (Ra/Rg = 1.9 at 10 ppb) with high selectivity is developed. Experimental and molecular dynamic studies reveal that the Cu single atoms (SAs) act as active sites, promoting the oxidation of toluene and increasing the affinity of Cu single‐atom catalysts (SACs)‐containing sensing materials for toluene while weakening the association with carbon dioxide or water vapor. Density functional theory studies show that the selective binding of toluene to Cu SAs is due to the favorable binding sites provided by Cu SAs for toluene molecules over other gaseous species, which aids the adsorption of toluene on WO2.72 nanowires. This study demonstrates the successful atomic‐level interface regulation engineering of WO2.72 nanowire‐supported Cu SAs, providing a potential strategy for the development of highly active and durable CGSs.

Carbon/silicon heterojunctions provide a new perspective for silicon solar cells and in particular those made from carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have already achieved industrial‐level power conversion efficiency and device size when using organic passivation and a back‐junction design. However, the current state of the art device geometry for silicon photovoltaics is the interdigitated back contact (IBC) cell and this has yet to be demonstrated for CNT/Si solar cells due to the complexity of fabricating the required patterns. Herein, IBC‐CNT solar cells are demonstrated via the simple spin coating of a conductive hole‐selective passivating film and the evaporation of buried silicon oxide/magnesium electron‐selective contacts for both polarities. The CNT coverage area fraction (fCNT) and the gap between the two polarities are optimized to minimize electrical shading loss and ensure high photocarrier collection. Large‐area (4.76 cm2) highly efficient (17.53%) IBC‐CNT solar cells with a Voc of 651 mV and Jsc of 40.56 mA cm−2 are demonstrated and are prepared with one alignment step for the CNT/Si contact, and photolithographic‐free and room‐temperature processes. These performance parameters are among the best for solution‐processed dopant‐free IBC schemes and indicate the feasibility of using low‐dimensional carbon materials in IBC solar cells.

To clearly realize the dynamic process as well as the dynamic fragmentation behavior of a long run-out rockslide, a novel numerical method for landslide simulation of the coupled finite-discrete element method (FDEM) was applied and the Jichang rockslide was used as a case. The calibrated simulation result of the FDEM in a rockslide deposit corresponds well with the real rockslide deposit. The main run-out process of the rockslide lasts for 75 s and can be divided into acceleration and deceleration stages, which last for 33 s and 42 s, respectively. The maximum overall rockslide movement speed is 35 m/s while the partial sliding mass reaches 45 m/s. The fracturing, fragmentation, and disintegration processes of the sliding mass can be clearly observed from the dynamic scenarios. Fracture energy generated by rock fracturing constantly increases with time in a non-linear form. Of the total fracture energy, 54% is released in the initial 5 s because of fracturing, and 39% of the total fracture energy is released because of fragmentation and disintegration in the last 35 s. The accumulated friction energy increases in the whole run-out process, and its magnitude is much greater than the kinetic energy and fracture energy of the sliding mass.

The high energy density and stability of solid‐state lithium batteries (SSBs) have garnered attention. Garnet electrolytes are widely explored in SSBs due to their huge electrochemical potential window, high effective ionic conductivity, and reasonable production cost. However, the electrochemical stability of a metallic lithium anode and a garnet electrolyte pose obstacles to the widespread use of garnet‐based SSBs. To remedy these problems, Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) is added to the metallic lithium anode. With superior wettability on the garnet electrolyte compared to pure metallic Li, Li–LTO is a more desirable electrolyte. Increased wettability between the garnet electrolyte and Li–LTO composite is responsible for the larger absolute value of the interface formation energy found in the first principal density‐functional theory calculation. Since the interface resistance between the Li–LTO composite anodes (25 Ω cm2) and the Li metal (270 Ω cm2) is much lower, Li dendrite development is effectively suppressed. An all‐lithium battery with a Li–LTO anode and a LiFePO4 cathode shows excellent capacity retention of 95% after 450 cycles. This discovery may serve as inspiration for future efforts to create a metallic Li‐containing anode for lithium batteries and other functional LTO‐based composites.

Background: As the world experiences a demographic shift towards aging populations, there will be a significant surge in the number of sarcopenia patients, along with an unprecedented expansion in the associated economic burden. The multitudinous risk factors for sarcopenia have been reported, but evidence for air pollution remains rare. Methods: This cross-sectional study employed multi-stage random sampling to select 1592 participants over 40 years of age from Hubei Province. Daily mean concentrations of air pollutants were collected ChinaHighAirPollutants dataset. Unconditional logistic regression models were utilized to investigate the associations between air pollution and sarcopenia. Results: For each 1 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5, PM10, SO2 and O3, there were corresponding elevations of 11.1% [95% confidence interval (CI): 4.9, 17.7], 4.3% (95% CI: 1.4, 7.2), 22.6% (95% CI: 7.2, 40.1) and 9.3% (95% CI: 0.7, 18.7) in the risk of sarcopenia, respectively. The associations of PM2.5/PM10/O3-sarcopenia were more pronounced in females, with corresponding odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs of 1.179 (1.062, 1.310), 1.079 (1.027, 1.135) and 1.180 (1.026, 1.358), separately. Additionally, individuals residing in rural areas were more susceptible to the effects of PM2.5 and PM10. Current/ever smokers or drinkers were also at higher risk of developing sarcopenia caused by PM2.5, PM10 and O3 exposure. Mixture analyses show a surge of 48.4% (95% CI: 3.6%, 112.5%) in the likelihood of suffering from sarcopenia, and the joint impacts of the air pollution were mainly driven by PM2.5. Conclusions: Our results produced evidence for a relationship between air pollution exposure and the increased prevalence of sarcopenia in China. Public health and relevant departments should make efforts to prevent sarcopenia, particularly in China experiencing rapid demographic aging.

In the present study, the optimization design of the cubic nonlinear damping is conducted for a floating raft isolation system, which can be simplified as a multiple degree-of-freedom system with double parallel freedom inputs. The direct relationship between the power transmissibility and cubic nonlinear damping parameters is derived by taking advantage of the output frequency response function (OFRF) approach. The design requirements are proposed in order to achieve low resonant peak values, low power transmissibility over the high frequency range. The detailed step-by-step design process of the floating raft isolation system applied in a practical vessel is provided. A polynomial function, in terms of the required frequency range, is developed and validated from the simulation data. The case application indicates that the design method determined by the OFRF approach can effectively realize the design requirements of a floating raft isolation system, which can deal with the relationship of the power transmissibility and nonlinear damping parameters.

Abstract This letter develops a fast spectral peak estimation method, which is inspired by the theory of compressed sensing (CS). In this work, the measurement procedure of the CS is employed to construct an underdetermined equation, and then a low complexity spectral peak search method is established by using a priori knowledge of signal amplitude. Compared with other frequency estimation methods, the proposed method requires only 10% inner products demanded to obtain the spectral peak positions, and this method can be introduced into any existing discrete Fourier transform (DFT)‐based interpolation methods. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields nearly the same accuracy as other interpolation methods, but with lower computational demands.

Lead halide perovskites have many suitable features as materials for solar cells and a better understanding of the underlying physics will help engineer improved performance values. Here, the authors use broadband transient absorption spectroscopy to probe the excited state dynamics of mixed-halide perovskites and the role of excitons and carriers.

Potentially temperature-resistant inorganic perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells (TSCs) are promising devices for boosting efficiency past the single-junction silicon limit. However, undesirable non-radiative recombination generally leads to a significant voltage deficit. Here, we introduce an effective strategy using nickel iodide, an inorganic halide salt, to passivate iodine vacancies and suppress non-radiative recombination. NiI2-treated CsPbI3-xBrx inorganic perovskite solar cells with a 1.80 ​eV bandgap exhibited an efficiency of 19.53% and a voltage of 1.36 ​V, corresponding to a voltage deficit of 0.44 ​V. Importantly, the treated device demonstrated excellent operational stability, maintaining 95.7% of its initial efficiency after maximum power point tracking for 300 ​h under continuous illumination in a N2 atmosphere. By combining this inorganic perovskite top cell with a narrower bandgap silicon bottom cell, we for the first time achieved monolithic inorganic perovskite/silicon TSCs, which exhibited an efficiency of 22.95% with an open-circuit voltage of 2.04 ​V. This work provides a promising strategy for using inorganic passivation materials to achieve efficient and stable solar cells.

Objective: To explore the association of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) with renal function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Design: A prospective cohort study. Methods: This single-centre study included patients with no DR, mild non-proliferative DR (NPDR), and no DME at baseline. DR and DME were assessed using 7-field fundus photography and swept-source OCT (SS-OCT). The baseline renal function assessed included the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and microalbuminuria (MAU). Cox regression analyses were used to assess the hazard ratio (HR) of renal function with the progression of DR and the development of DME. Results: A total of 1409 patients with T2DM (1409 eyes) were included. During 3 years of follow-up,143 patients had DR progression, and 54 patients developed DME. Low eGFR levels at baseline were associated with the development of DR (HR, 1.044 per 1-SD decrease; 95% CI, 1.035–1.053; P 90 mL/min/1.73 m2, the participants with eGFRs of 60–90 mL/min/1.73 m2 (HR, 1.649; 95% CI, 1.094–2.485; P = 0.017) or 0.05). Conclusions: Abnormal renal profiles (i.e., low levels of eGFR and high levels of MAU) were associated with the progression of DR, but not with the development of DME.

Zinc–air battery (ZAB) has considerable potential to be applied in the energy storage field. The main commercial electrocatalysts are Pt/C and RuO2, which are expensive and cannot possess good bifunctional electrocatalytic activities including oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction. Herein, the rare‐earth metal lanthanum is first constructed to be a Mott–Schottky heterojunction, and the S vacancy is introduced into the Mott–Schottky heterojunction. The so‐obtained La/La2O2S1−x shows excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic activity with ΔE of 0.68 V, which is superior to La/La2O2S without S vacancies and the commercial Pt/C + RuO2 system. In addition, the La/La2O2S1−x is assembled into ZABs, showing a high open power density of 212 mW cm−2, and a large specific capacity of 707 mAh g−1, as good cycle stability. The density functional theory calculations reveal the tailoring effect of S vacancy on the Schottky barrier to control the electron transfer concentration and ameliorate over‐strong adsorption, which blocks the reflux of electrons and promotes the unidirectional flow of electrons. In addition, the S vacancy modulates the electron cloud of La‐4f orbit and makes the electrocatalytic pathway closer to the ideal pathway.

Abstract In today's state‐of‐the‐art high‐efficiency silicon solar cells need to be inserted a thin insulating layer in order to reduce the recombination losses between the carrier transport layer and Si surface, which can form a tunneling junction (TJ), thus increasing the performance of the TJ solar cells comparable with the pn junction structure. However, the copper indium gallium selenium (CIGS) solar cells inevitably lead to the losses of the carrier transport due to the interface which is widely assumed as the pn‐heterojunction. Herein, the TJ solar cells, aiming to enhance the performance of the solar cells, are fabricated by inserting the TiO2 between CIGS/CdS interface deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD). By inserting the TiO2 insulating layer, the CIGS/TiO2/CdS structure can be effectively reduced the interface recombination, which leads to a reduced band bending in the p‐CIGS surface and compromises its field‐effect passivation. As a result, the CIGS solar cell with the tunneling junction achieves the 15.57% based on the stainless steel (SS) substrate, by introducing a barrier layer and doping NaF. These results provide an important preliminary foundation for the development of the CIGS solar cells with the tunneling junction structure.

The main hurdle to the upgradation of photovoltaic industry is the large performance losses that the tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) and silicon heterojunction (SHJ) cells have during the cutting and separating process for the assembly of shingle solar panels. Here, an organic solution with the passivation effect is prepared in situ by a non‐vacuum spraying process, which effectively compensates the cutting loss caused by laser slicing technology. Both the open‐circuit voltage (Voc) and power conversion efficiency (PCE) are improved. For example, after edge passivation, the Voc and PCE of the 3 × 3 cm2 SHJ (K = 1.186%) cell increase by up to 8 mV and a 1–2% in absolute efficiency, respectively. This passivation‐solution based method can be easily integrated into the current production line and thus solve the issue of cutting loss in separated silicon solar cells. This study provides a new passivation technology to compensate the recombination loss on the edge surface caused by the cutting process in shingle solar panels.

Diverse defects in copper indium gallium diselenide solar cells cause nonradiative recombination losses and impair device performance. Here, an organic passivation scheme for surface and grain boundary defects is reported, which employs an organic passivation agent to infiltrate the copper indium gallium diselenide thin films. A transparent conductive passivating (TCP) film is then developed by incorporating metal nanowires into the organic polymer and used in solar cells. The TCP films have a transmittance of more than 90% in the visible and nearinfrared spectra and a sheet resistance of ~10.5 Ω/sq. This leads to improvements in the open-circuit voltage and the efficiency of the organic passivated solar cells compared with control cells and paves the way for novel approaches to copper indium gallium diselenide defect passivation and possibly other compound solar cells.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of CYP3A4 genetic polymorphisms on the metabolism of cyclosporine (CsA) in vitro and identify drugs that interact with CsA. An enzymatic incubation system was developed to evaluate the kinetic parameters of CYP3A4 on CsA catalysis. A total of 132 drugs were screened to identify potential drug–drug interactions. Sprague–Dawley rats were used to determine the interaction between CsA and nimodipine and nisoldipine. The metabolite AM1 was measured by ultra-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. The results demonstrate that 16 CYP3A4 variants (CYP3A4.7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 23, 24, 28, 31, 32, 33, and 34) have a lower metabolic capacity for CsA, ranging from 7.19% to 72.10%, than CYP3A4.1. In contrast, the relative clearance rate of CYP3A4.5 is significantly higher than that of CYP3A4.1. Moreover, CYP3A4.20 loses its catalytic ability, and five other variants have no significant difference. A total of 12 drugs, especially calcium channel blockers, were found to remarkably inhibit the metabolism of CsA with an inhibitory rate of over 80%. Nimodipine inhibits the activity of CsA in rat liver microsomes with an IC50 of 20.54 ± 0.93 μM, while nisoldipine has an IC50 of 16.16 ± 0.78 μM. In in vivo, three groups of Sprague–Dawley rats were administered CsA with or without nimodipine or nisoldipine; the AUC(0-t) and AUC(0-∞) of CsA were significantly increased in the nimodipine group but not obviously in the nisoldipine group. Mechanistically, the inhibition mode of nimodipine on cyclosporine metabolism is a mixed inhibition. Our data show that gene polymorphisms of CYP3A4 and nimodipine remarkably affect the metabolism of CsA, thus providing a reference for the precise administration of CsA.

This study aimed 1) to investigate the influence of CYP2D6 variants on the catalyzing of fluvoxamine, and 2) to study the interaction between fluvoxamine and apatinib. An enzymatic reaction system was setup and the kinetic profile of CYP2D6 in metabolizing fluvoxamine was determined. In vivo, drug-drug interaction was investigated using Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats. Fluvoxamine was given gavage with or without apatinib. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was used to determine the concentrations of fluvoxamine and desmethyl-fluvoxamine. The results demonstrated that the relative clearance rates of CYP2D6.A5V, V104A, D337G, F164L, V342M, R440C and R497C increased significantly compared with CYP2D6.1, ranging from 153.626% ± 6.718% to 394.310% ± 33.268%. The activities of other variants reduced to different extent, or even lost function, but there was no statistical difference. The IC50 of apatinib against fluvoxamine disposition was determined, which is 0.190 μM in RLM and 6.419 μM in HLM, respectively. In vivo, apatinib can enhance the plasma exposure of fluvoxamine remarkably characterized by increased AUC, Tmax and Cmax. Meanwhile, the produce of desmethyl fluvoxamine was dramatically inhibited, both AUC and Cmax decreased significantly. Mechanistically, apatinib inhibit the generation of fluvoxamine metabolite with a mixed manner both in RLM and HLM. Furthermore, there were differences in the potency of apatinib in suppressing fluvoxamine metabolism among CYP2D6.1, 2 and 10. In conclusion, CYP2D6 gene polymorphisms and drug-drug interaction can remarkably affect the plasma exposure of fluvoxamine. The present study provides basis data for guiding individual application of fluvoxamine.

Nonhuman primates (NHPs) have been considered as the best models for biomedical research due to their high similarities in genomic, metabolomic, physiological and pathological features to humans. However, generation of genetically modified NHPs through traditional methods, such as microinjection into the pronuclei of one-cell embryos, is prohibitive due to the targeting efficiency and the number of NHPs needed as oocyte/zygote donors. Using spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) as the target of gene editing, producing gene-edited sperm for fertilization, is proven to be an effective way to establish gene editing animal disease models. In this experiment, we used ultrasound to guide the echo dense injection needle into the rete testis space, allowing the EGFP lentivirus to be slowly injected at positive pressure from the rete testis into seminiferous tubules. We found Thy1 can be used as a surface marker of cynomolgus monkey SSCs, confirming that SSCs carry the GFP gene. Finally, we successfully obtained transgenic sperm, with a similar freezing and recovery rate to that of WT animals.

Abstract Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) plays a critical role in determining the interfacial stability, which in turn impacts the plating/stripping process of the lithium metal anode. Substantial research has been focused on the composition of SEI and its contribution to the interfacial stability. Herein, we illustrate the significance of SEI structure, in a comprehensive comparison of a diluted electrolyte (1 M LiTFSI‐PC) and a super‐concentrated electrolyte (8 M LiTFSI‐PC). Illustrated by in situ optical and atomic force microscope observation, homogeneous plating on lithium anode is achieved in the concentrated electrolyte. However, x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations reveal that, contrary to the general understanding, the components of SEI is nearly identical for lithium anode cycled in both two electrolytes. Detailed characterizations demonstrate the structure of SEI is quite different. In concentrated electrolyte, a compact structure of SEI layer can be obtained, mainly due to the reduced solubility and outstanding formation kinetics of the interfacial layer. This work provided a new understanding to the excellent performance of super‐concentrated electrolyte in lithium metal battery.

Understanding the effect of the space charge layer (SCL) in all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries is challenging due to lack of direct experimental observations. Here the authors visualize the SCL using an in-situ DPC-STEM imaging technique, based on which they further introduce a built-in electric field to suppress its formation.

The detection of heavy metal ions is becoming increasingly important for environmental monitoring and personal safety protection. Owing to their large surface area and suitable conductivity, metal oxide semiconductor nanocrystals have been utilized in chemically modified electrodes for the rapid and low-cost detection of heavy metal ions. However, their sensitivity and selectivity for cadmium ion (Cd2+) detection still remains a challenge. Here, a method of ultra-sensitive and selective Cd2+ detection based on WO3-nanocrystal-modified electrodes is proposed and demonstrated. Colloidal WO3 nanocrystals were synthesized via a solvothermal route and then deposited onto a carbon electrode using a spin-coating method, forming the modification layer at room temperature. The WO3-nanocrystal-modified electrodes exhibit a remarkable signal transduction capability that converts Cd2+ adsorption into current output signals. The peak current was linear to the logarithm of the Cd2+ concentration from 1 nM to 10,000 nM when measured using the anodic stripping voltammetry method. The selectivity mechanism was studied and attributed to the high adsorption energy of cadmium on WO3 compared to other heavy metal ions. Employment of WO3 for a high-performance Cd2+-selective electrode opens many opportunities in portable ion-detection applications.

Antifreeze protein III (AFP III) is used for the cryopreservation of germ cells in various animal species. However, the exact mechanism of its cryoprotection is largely unknown at the molecular level. In this study, we investigated the motility, acrosomal integrity, and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), as well as proteomic change, of cynomolgus macaque sperm after cryopreservation. Sperm motility, acrosomal integrity, and MMP were lower after cryopreservation (p < 0.001), but significant differences in sperm motility and MMP were observed between the AFP-treated sperm sample (Cryo+AFP) and the non-treated sample (Cryo–AFP) (p < 0.01). A total of 141 and 32 differentially expressed proteins were, respectively, identified in cynomolgus macaque sperm cryopreserved without and with 0.1 μg/ml AFP III compared with fresh sperm. These proteins were mainly involved in the mitochondrial production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), glutathione (GSH) synthesis, and cell apoptosis. The addition of AFP III in the sperm freezing medium resulted in significant stabilization of cellular molecular functions and/or biological processes in sperm, as illustrated by the extent of proteomic changes after freezing and thawing. According to the proteomic change of differentially expressed proteins, we hypothesized a novel molecular mechanism for cryoprotection that AFP III may reduce the release of cytochrome c and thereby reduce sperm apoptosis by modulating the production of ROS in mitochondria. The molecular mechanism that AFP III acts with sperm proteins for cellular protection against cryoinjuries needs further study.

Spectral peak search is an essential part of the frequency domain parametric method. In this paper, a spectral peak search algorithm employing the principle of compressed sensing (CS) is proposed to rapidly estimate the spectral peaks. The algorithm adopts fast Fourier transform (FFT) with a few points to obtain the coarsely estimated spectral peak positions, and then only three small-scale inner products are iteratively calculated by increasing the input sequence length to rapidly refine the estimated positions. Compared with the conventional methods, this algorithm can directly capture the exact locations of spectral peaks without acquiring the entire spectrum. In addition, the proposed algorithm can be easily integrated into the existing frequency domain interpolation methods to accurately determine the spectral peak positions, and if so, only 30% of inner product operations of the original algorithms are required. Theoretical analysis and numerical results show that this algorithm yields accurate results with low complexity for analyzing both one-dimensional and two-dimensional signals.

Layered structure (MoS2) has the potential use as an anode in metal-ions (M-ions) batteries. Here, first-principles calculations are used to systematically investigate the diffusion mechanisms and structural changes of MoS2 as anode in lithium (Li)-, sodium (Na)-, magnesium (Mg)- and Zinc (Zn)-ions batteries. Li and Na ions are shown to be stored in the MoS2 anode material due to the strong adsorption energies (~−2.25 eV), in contrast to a relatively weak adsorption of Mg and Zn ions for the pristine MoS2. To rationalize the results, we evaluate the charge transfer from the M-ions to the MoS2 anode, and find a significant hybridization between the adsorbed atoms and S atoms in the MoS2 anode. Furthermore, the migration energy barriers of M ions are explored using first-principles with the climbing image nudged elastic band (CINEB) method, and the migration energy barrier is in the order of Zn > Mg > Li > Na ions. Our results combined with the electrochemical performance experiments show that Li- and Na-ions batteries have good cycle and rate performance due to low ions migration energy barrier and high storage capability. However, the MoS2 anode shows poor electrochemical performance in Zn- and Mg-ions batteries, especially Zn-ion batteries. Further analysis reveals that the MoS2 structure undergoes the phase transformation from 2H to 1T during the intercalation of Li and Na ions, leading to strong interaction between M ions and the anode, and thus higher electrochemical performance, which, however, is difficult to occur in Mg- and Zn-ions batteries. This work focuses on the theoretical aspects of M-ions intercalation, and our findings may stimulate the experimental work for the intercalation of multi-ions to maximize the capacity of anode in M-ions batteries.

Traditional methods of cultivating polyps are costly and time-consuming. Microfluidic chip technology makes it possible to study coral polyps at the single-cell level, but most chips can only be analyzed for a single environmental variable. In this work, we addressed these issues by designing a microfluidic coral polyp culture chip with a multi-physical field for multivariable analyses and verifying the feasibility of the chip through numerical simulation. This chip used multiple serpentine structures to generate the concentration gradient and used a circuit to form the Joule effect for the temperature gradient. It could generate different temperature gradients at different voltages for studying the growth of polyps in different solutes or at different temperatures. The simulation of flow field and temperature showed that the solute and heat could be transferred evenly and efficiently in the chambers, and that the temperature of the chamber remained unchanged after 24 h of continuous heating. The thermal expansion of the microfluidic chip was low at the optimal culture temperature of coral polyps, which proves the feasibility of the use of the multivariable microfluidic model for polyp culture and provides a theoretical basis for the actual chip processing.

The leakage of an enclosure structure will cause abnormal changes in the seepage flow field, which in turn can lead to the deformation of the enclosure structure and affect the surrounding geotechnical body. In this paper, a fiber-optic temperature measurement system is used to detect the location of the seepage points in a station of the Qingdao subway during open pit excavation, and the abnormal variation of the seepage field caused by the seepage points is obtained by numerical calculation and field measurement. Then, numerical simulation is performed to analyze the effects of seepage field anomalies on the deformation of the enclosure structure and surface settlement. It is found that the seepage flow caused by the leakage point has a significant influence on the surface settlement and the deformation of the enclosure structure. With the increase of excavation depth, the deformation of the enclosure structure increases and the maximum deformation position shifts downward. The deformation of the enclosure structure decreases when the leakage point exists. The surface volume also increases gradually with the excavation, and the maximum surface settlement position shifts outward significantly. The settlement range becomes larger when the leakage point exists.

A series of Co-based oxides were synthesized and investigated as passive NOx adsorbers (PNAs). The morphology variation of Co3O4 oxide from nanoparticle to flake shape enhanced the NOx storage efficiency (NSE) and improved the NOx desorption capability. The enhanced NSE of the flake-like sample is related to its abundant surface oxygen species and large surface area. DRIFTS and CO2-TPD experimental results indicated that Co3O4-flake and Co7Ni3Ox-flake samples with moderate basicity could store NOx as nitrite species, which facilitated NOx desorption at lower temperatures.

Nonlinear ultrasonic testing is highly sensitive to micro-defects and can be used to detect hidden damage and defects inside materials. At present, most tests are carried out on specimens, and there are few nonlinear ultrasonic tests for fatigue damage of compressor blades. A vibration fatigue test was carried out on compressor blade steel KMN, and blade specimens with different damage degrees were obtained. Then, the nonlinear coefficients of blade specimens were obtained by nonlinear ultrasonic testing. The results showed that the nonlinear coefficient increased with the increase in the number of fatigue cycles in the early stage of fatigue, and then the nonlinear coefficient decreased. The microstructures were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was proven that the nonlinear ultrasonic testing can be used for the detection of micro-cracks in the early stage of fatigue. Through the statistical analysis of the size of the micro-cracks inside the material, the empirical formula of the nonlinear coefficient β and the equivalent crack size were obtained. Combined with the β–S–N three-dimensional model, an evaluation method based on the nonlinear ultrasonic testing for the early fatigue damage of the blade was proposed.

In view of the early fatigue damage of high-strength steel FV520B, a nonlinear ultrasonic detection was performed on two types of fatigue samples using nonlinear Lamb waves. The experimental results indicated that the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter is highly sensitive to early fatigue damage in high-strength FV520B. For plate specimens, the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter increased with the number of fatigue cycles. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of the fatigue specimens revealed that as the number of fatigue cycles increased, the microstructure of the material gradually deteriorated, and the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter increased. For notched specimens, the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter increased as the size of the main crack increased. SEM observations of the fracture indicated that the ultrasonic nonlinear parameters were more consistent with the equivalent microcrack length (defined as the sum of microcrack lengths in the statistical area), as compared with the length of the main crack. It was determined that the nonlinear effect of the Lamb wave is related to the equivalent microcrack length inside the material and that the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter can effectively characterize the fatigue damage state of high-strength FV520B.

In this study, the applications of the cubic power law damping in vessel isolation systems are investigated. The isolation performance is assessed using the force transmissibility of the vessel isolation system, which is simplified as a multiple-degree-of-freedom system with two parallel freedoms. The force transmissibilities of different working conditions faced in practice are discussed by applying the cubic power law damping on different positions of the vessel isolation system. Numerical results indicate that by adding the cubic power law damping to an appropriate position, the isolation system can not only suppress the force transmissibility over the resonant frequency region but also keep the force transmissibility unaffected at the nonresonant frequency region. Moreover, the design of the nonlinear vessel isolation system is discussed by finding the optimal nonlinear damping of the isolation system.

Abstract Due to its high theoretical energy density (2600 Wh kg−1), low cost, and environmental benignity, the lithium–sulfur (Li‐S) battery is attracting strong interest among the various electrochemical energy storage systems. However, its practical application is seriously hampered by the so‐called shuttle effect of the highly soluble polysulfides. Herein, a novel design of multifunctional sandwich‐structured polymer electrolyte (polymer/cellulose nonwoven/nanocarbon) for high‐performance Li‐S batteries is demonstrated. It is verified that Li‐S battery with this sandwich‐structured polymer electrolyte delivers excellent cycling stability (only 0.039% capacity decay cycle−1 on average exceeding 1500 cycles at 0.5 C) and rate capability (with a reversible capacity of 594 mA h g−1 at 4 C). These electrochemical performances are attributed to the synergistic effect of each layer in this unique sandwich‐structured polymer electrolyte including steady lithium stripping/plating, strong polysulfide absorption ability, and increased redox reaction sites. More importantly, even with high sulfur loading of 4.9 mg cm−2, Li‐S battery with this sandwich‐structured polymer electrolyte can deliver high initial areal capacity of 5.1 mA h cm−2. This demonstrated strategy here may open up a new era of designing hierarchical structured polymer electrolytes for high‐performance Li‐S batteries.

Liver fibrosis is a disease that causes high morbidity and has become a major health problem. Liver fibrosis can lead to the end stage of liver diseases (livercirrhosisand hepatocellularcarcinoma). Currently, liver transplantation is the only effective treatment for end-stage liver disease. However, the shortage of organ donors, high cost of medical surgery, immunological rejection and transplantation complications severely hamper liver transplantation therapy. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been regarded as promising cells for clinical applications in stem cell therapy in the treatment of liver diseases due to their unique multipotent differentiation capacity, immunoregulation and paracrine effects. Although liver fibrosis improvements by MSC transplantation in preclinical experiments as well as clinical trials have been reported, the in vivo fate of MSCs after transportation and their therapeutic mechanisms remain unclear. In this present study, we isolated MSCs from the bone marrow of rhesus macaques. The cells exhibited typical MSC markers and could differentiate into chondrocytes, osteocytes, and adipocytes, which were not affected by labeling with enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP). The harvested MSCs respond to interferon-γ stimulation and have the ability to inhibit lymphocyte proliferation in vitro. EGFP-labeled MSCs (1 × 106 cells) were transplanted into mice with carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis via tail vein injection. The ability of the heterogenic MSC infusion to ameliorate liver fibrosis in mice was evaluated by a blood plasma chemistry index, pathological examination and liver fibrosis-associated gene expression. Additionally, a small number of MSCs that homed and engrafted in the mouse liver tissues were evaluated by immunofluorescence analysis. Our results showed that the transplantation of heterogenic MSCs derived from monkey bone marrow can be used to treat liver fibrosis in the mouse model and that the paracrine effects of MSCs may play an important role in the improvement of liver fibrosis.

The objective of the present study is to determine whether methoxychlor (MXC) exposure in adulthood affects rat Leydig cell regeneration and to compare its effects with estradiol (E2). Adult 90-day-old male Sprague-Dawley rats received ethane dimethane sulfonate (EDS) to eliminate the adult Leydig cell population. Subsequently, rats were randomly assigned to four groups and gavaged with corn oil (control), 0.25 mg/kg E2 and 10 or 100 mg/kg MXC daily from days 5 to 30 post-EDS treatment. The results showed that MXC and E2 reduced serum testosterone levels on day 58 post-EDS treatment. qPCR showed Hsd17b3 mRNA levels were downregulated 7–15 fold by E2 and MXC, indicating that development of the new population of Leydig cells was arrested at the earlier stage. This observation was supported by the results of histochemical staining, which demonstrated that Leydig cells in MXC-treated testis on day 58 post-EDS treatment were mostly progenitor Leydig cells. However, Pdgfb mRNA levels were downregulated, while Lif transcript levels were increased by MXC. In contrast, E2 did not affect gene expression for these growth factors. In conclusion, our findings indicated that both MXC and E2 delayed rat Leydig cell regeneration in the EDS-treated model, presumably acting by different mechanisms.

Recently, our group developed a synergistic brain drug delivery method to achieve simultaneous transcranial hyperthermia and localized blood–brain barrier opening via MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). In a rodent model, we demonstrated that the ultrasound power required for transcranial MRgFUS hyperthermia was significantly reduced by injecting microbubbles (MBs). However, the specific mechanisms underlying the power reduction caused by MBs remain unclear. The present study aims to elucidate the mechanisms of MB-enhanced transcranial MRgFUS hyperthermia through numerical studies using the finite element method. The microbubble acoustic emission (MAE) and the viscous dissipation (VD) were hypothesized to be the specific mechanisms. Acoustic wave propagation was used to model the FUS propagation in the brain tissue, and a bubble dynamics equation for describing the dynamics of MBs with small shell thickness was used to model the MB oscillation under FUS exposures. A modified bioheat transfer equation was used to model the temperature in the rodent brain with different heat sources. A theoretical model was used to estimate the bubble shell’s surface tension, elasticity, and viscosity losses. The simulation reveals that MAE and VD caused a 40.5% and 52.3% additional temperature rise, respectively. Compared with FUS only, MBs caused a 64.0% temperature increase, which is consistent with our previous animal experiments. Our investigation showed that MAE and VD are the main mechanisms of MB-enhanced transcranial MRgFUS hyperthermia.

Abstract Solid‐state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) offer numerous advantages in terms of safety and theoretical specific energy density. However, their main components namely lithium metal anode, solid‐state electrolyte, and cathode, show chemical instability when exposed to humid air, which results in low capacities and poor cycling stability. Recent studies have shown that bioinspired hydrophobic materials with low specific surface energies can protect battery components from corrosion caused by humid air. Air‐stable inorganic materials that densely cover the surface of battery components can also provide protection, which improves the storage stability of the battery components, broadens their processing conditions, and ultimately decreases their processing costs while enhancing their safety. In this review, the mechanism behind the surface structural degradation of battery components and the resulting consequences are discussed. Subsequently, recent strategies are reviewed to address this issue from the perspectives of lithium metal anodes, solid‐state electrolytes, and cathodes. Finally, a brief conclusion is provided on the current strategies and fabrication suggestions for future safe air‐stable SSLMBs.

Abstract Human telomeres are linked to genetic instability and a higher risk of developing cancer. Therefore, to improve the dismal prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients, a thorough investigation of the association between telomere-related genes and pancreatic cancer is required. Combat from the R package “SVA” was performed to correct the batch effects between the TCGA-PAAD and GTEx datasets. After differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were assessed, we constructed a prognostic risk model through univariate Cox regression, LASSO-Cox regression, and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Data from the ICGC, GSE62452, GSE71729, and GSE78229 cohorts were used as test cohorts for validating the prognostic signature. The major impact of the signature on the tumor microenvironment and its response to immune checkpoint drugs was also evaluated. Finally, PAAD tissue microarrays were fabricated and immunohistochemistry was performed to explore the expression of this signature in clinical samples. After calculating 502 telomere-associated DEGs, we constructed a three-gene prognostic signature (DSG2, LDHA, and RACGAP1) that can be effectively applied to the prognostic classification of pancreatic cancer patients in multiple datasets, including TCGA, ICGC, GSE62452, GSE71729, and GSE78229 cohorts. In addition, we have screened a variety of tumor-sensitive drugs targeting this signature. Finally, we also found that protein levels of DSG2, LDHA, and RACGAP1 were upregulated in pancreatic cancer tissues compared to normal tissues by immunohistochemistry analysis. We established and validated a telomere gene-related prognostic signature for pancreatic cancer and confirmed the upregulation of DSG2, LDHA, and RACGAP1 expression in clinical samples, which may provide new ideas for individualized immunotherapy.

In this paper, a dual-band dual-polarized magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna with a dual-layer structure is proposed. The antenna consists of a dual-layer magneto-electric dipole, a Γ- shaped feeding line, and a rectangular box-shaped reflector. The dual-layer magneto-electric dipole is able to generate two resonant frequencies. Both simulated and measured results show that the antenna can obtain two wide impedance bandwidths of 47.5% (1.70-2.76 GHz) in lower frequency band and 30.2% (4.50-6.10 GHz) in higher frequency band with the reflection coefficients lower than -10 dB for both input ports. The isolation between ports is greater than 25 dB in the corresponding frequency band. The gains of the measured antenna are 8.5-9.7 dBi in the low frequency band and 7.5-8.5 dBi in the high frequency band, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two consecutive trials were conducted to investigate the effects of glucosinolates (GLS) in rapeseed cake (RSC) on nitrogen (N) metabolism and urine nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions in steers. In trial 1, 8 steers and 4 levels of RSC, i.e. 0%, 2.7%, 5.4% and 8.0% dry matter (DM) (0, 6.0, 12.1, 18.1 μmol GLS/g DM) were allocated in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square. In trial 2, the static incubation technique was used for measuring the N2O emissions of the urine samples collected from trial 1. The results of trial 1 indicated that dietary inclusion of RSC decreased the digested N and increased the fecal N excretion (P 0.10). A new Co(II) complex, [Co(pta)(H2O)2]n (1), with the 2-(4-pyridyl)-terephthalate ligand (pta2-) has been synthesized and structurally and magnetically characterized. Single crystal X-ray analysis indicates that the unique Co(II) ion in the asymmetric unit of 1 displays stretched octahedral geometry. Compound 1 presents a bimetallic layer structure which is further expanded to a 3D supramolecular network through hydrogen bonding interactions.
