The work presented in this paper shows the way to generate colored paper mosaics using computer graphics techniques. Following two tasks need to be done to generate colored paper mosaic. The first one is to generate colored paper tile and the other one is to arrange the tile. Voronoi Diagram and Random Point Displacement have been used in this paper to come up with the shape of the tile. And, energy value that the tile has depending on its location is the factor to determine the best positioning of the tile. This paper focuses on representing the overlap among tiles, maintenance of the edge of input image, and various shapes of tiles in the final output image by solving two tasks mentioned above. SimStudent is a machine-learning agent that learns cognitive skills by demonstration. It was originally developed as a building block of the Cognitive Tutor Authoring Tools (CTAT), so that the authors do not have to build a cognitive model by hand, but instead simply demonstrate solutions for SimStudent to automatically generate a cognitive model. The SimStudent technology could then be used to model human students' performance as well. To evaluate the applicability of SimStudent as a tool for modeling real students, we applied SimStudent to a genuine learning log gathered from classroom experiments with the Algebra I Cognitive Tutor. Such data can be seen as the human students' "demonstrations" of how to solve problems. The results from an empirical study show that SimStudent can indeed model human students' performance. After training on 20 problems solved by a group of human students, a cognitive model generated by SimStudent explained 82% of the problem-solving steps performed correctly by another group of human students. Finding the right material on the Web could be a worthwhile result. Users waste too much time to discover the useful information. Recommender system can provide some shortcuts to the user, but if the recommendation is based on people's opinion, one question remains — how relevant is a user's opinion? This paper presents a model to define the user's relevance opinion in a recommender system. This metric aims to help the target user to decide in what recommendation he should focus his attention. In this paper, a small case study is presented to illustrate our conceptual understanding of a task-based requirements process. We argue that sub-models as known in model-based design (e.g. task models, dialog models) support the reflection about an existing work situation at a conceptual level and allow a formal specification of requirements. However, it is also shown that the integration of complementary analysis approaches facilitates a richer consideration of social as well as technical aspects. An intertwined creation of models differing in their focus and in the degree of abstraction and formality supports a more effective requirements elicitation and elaboration. In addition, the paper discusses some crucial issues in task- and model-based design such as the ‘myth' of generalised task models, the different roles of task and dialog models, or the influence of intentions on models of current situations. This is the 5th International Workshop on Dynamic Data Driven Applications Systems (DDDAS), organized in conjunction with ICCS. The DDDAS concept entails the ability to dynamically incorporate data into an executing application simulation, and in reverse, the ability of applications to dynamically steer measurement processes. Such dynamic data inputs can be acquired in real-time on-line or they can be archival data. DDDAS is leading to new capabilities by improving applications modeling and systems management methods, augmenting the analysis and prediction capabilities of simulations, improving the efficiency of simulations and the effectiveness of measurement systems. We develop a novel user-centric modeling technology, which can dynamically describe and update a person's expertise profile. In an enterprise environment, the technology can enhance employees' collaboration and productivity by assisting in finding experts, training employees, etc. Instead of using the traditional search methods, such as the keyword match, we propose to use relational and evolutionary graph models, which we call ExpertiseNet, to describe and find experts. These ExpertiseNets are used for mining, retrieval, and visualization. We conduct experiments by building ExpertiseNets for researchers from a research paper collection. This paper provides a survey and analysis of applications of Agent Based Simulation (ABS). A framework for describing and assessing the applications is presented and systematically applied. A general conclusion from the study is that even if ABS seems a promising approach to many problems involving simulation of complex systems of interacting entities, it seems as the full potential of the agent concept and previous research and development within ABS often is not utilized. We illustrate this by providing some concrete examples. Another conclusion is that important information of the applications, in particular concerning the implementation of the simulator, was missing in many papers. This paper proposes a new classification model for management of resources in an educational repository. To facilitate usability of educational resources, a proper classification model should be provided. If no classification model, it causes several issues such as inefficient management of educational resources, incorrect retrieval, and low usability. To achieve the goal of this paper, the model should support a classification mechanism in multiple viewpoints. This paper proposed an automatic recognition system of shipping container identifiers using fuzzy-based noise removal method and ART2-based self-organizing supervised learning algorithm. Generally, identifiers of a shipping container have a feature that the color of characters is black or white. Considering such a feature, in a container image, all areas excepting areas with black or white colors are regarded as noises, and areas of identifiers and noises are discriminated by using a fuzzy-based noise detection method. Noise areas are replaced with a mean pixel value of the whole image and areas of identifiers are extracted by applying the edge detection by Sobel masking operation and the vertical and horizontal block extraction in turn to the noise-removed image. Extracted areas are binarized by using the iteration binarization algorithm, and individual identifiers are extracted by applying 8-directional contour tracking method. This paper proposed an ART2-based self-organizing supervised learning algorithm for the identifier recognition, which creates nodes of the hidden layer by applying ART2 between the input and the hidden layers and improves the performance of learning by applying generalized delta learning and Delta-bar-Delta algorithm between the hidden and the output layers. Experiments using many images of shipping containers showed that the proposed identifier extraction method and the ART2-based self-organizing supervised learning algorithm are more improved compared with the methods previously proposed. This paper provides an overview of how empirical research can be a valid approach to improve epistemological foundations and ontological representations in Software Engineering (SE). Despite of all the research done in SE, most of the results have not been yet been stated as laws, theories, hypothesis or conjectures, i.e., from an epistemological point of view. This paper explores such facts and advocates that the use of empirical methods can help to improve this situation. Furthermore, it is also imperative for SE experiments to be planned and executed properly in order to be valid epistemologically. Unlike fixed networks, mobile ad-hoc networks have diverse characteristics, such as dynamic topologies, bandwidth-constrained links, energy-constrained operation, limited physical security, etc. Due to these characteristics their security requirements are different from those of fixed networks. This paper presents a method of authenticating the nodes in the ad-hoc network and securely transmitting information in consideration of the characteristics of the mobile ad hoc network. To this end, this paper proposes a method of combining asymmetric and symmetric cryptography to enhance the efficiency of secret key management for authentication and secure channel establishment. In particular, this paper proposes a method that introduces the concept of Hamming Distance to share the secret keys between the nodes. In this paper, we suggested a healthcare information management system for supporting healthcare home services. Our researching focus in this paper is how to design system and how to use constructed database on the framework for supporting healthcare home services. The healthcare database constructed by using this information for the purpose of healthcare home services is divided into the base information with real schemes and the context based information with view schemes. Finally, for verifying the practical use of healthcare information constructed in this paper, we show an example of healthcare home monitoring service using information, emergency call, home appliance control, and we describes the results of the experimental evaluation between the base and context based information in terms of execution service time for healthcare home applications. In this paper, we proposed enhanced spreading activation algorithm. Because SARM requires a lot of computation time, enhanced SARM is possible as reducing unnecessary activation value. By removing the parts with a small number of references in the retrieval process, the time taken for retrieval in simulation has been reduced by 37.8% in comparison with SARM. Considerable progress has been made in recent years in complexity analysis of Nash equilibrium, so we restrict our attention to seek it from the empirical perspective in this paper. Based on a new description format of game - stimulate - response pair proposed in the paper, we put forward a constraints satisfaction-based algorithm on this data structure to compute pure Nash equilibrium of graphical game. And then, we discuss how to employ search strategies when finding the equilibrium in different types. To evaluate our algorithm, we use a comprehensive game generator - GAMUT, to produce a mass of data and take a famous tool - gambit as competitor. At last the experimental result is presented. Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) is a stochastic search algorithm and widely used in various real world problems. Classic EA uses little problem specific knowledge, so it is called lean knowledge approach. Because of the randomicity of crossover, mutation and selection, its' searching strategy is semi-blind, and the efficiency is usually low. In order to acquire an efficient and effective EA that suits difficult real-world problems, we try to best incorporate heuristic knowledge into an EA to guide the search focusing on the most promising area. In this paper, a novel sentence retrieval model with type-based expansion is proposed. In this retrieval model, sentences expected to be relevant should meet with the requirements both in query terms and query types. To obtain the information about query types, this paper proposes a solution based on classification, which utilizes the potential associations between terms and information types to obtain the optimized classification results. Inspired by the idea that relevant sentences always tend to occur nearby, this paper further re-ranks each sentence by considering the relevance of its adjacent sentences. Due to the diverse failures and error conditions in grid environments, node unavailability is increasingly becoming severe and poses great challenges to reliable job scheduling in grid environment. Current job management systems mainly exploit fault recovery mechanism to guarantee the completion of jobs, but sacrificing system efficiency. To address the challenges, in this paper, a node TTF (Time To Failure) prediction model and job completion prediction model are designed. Based on these models, the paper proposes a dependability guided job scheduling system, called DGSS, which provides failure avoidance job scheduling. We investigate an automatic tuning method for an eigensolver of a dense symmetric matrix. The aim of this paper is to investigate how to select the unrolling depth. To do this, we evaluate the performance of various unrolled reduction loops of the eigensolver for every matrix size from 3000 to 4000 on the Hitachi SR8000/F1 and on the IBM RS/6000 SP3. We also analyze the trend between Byte/Flop and performance for various patterns of loop unrolling. The result shows that the performance is degraded with higher depth of unrolling in some matrix sizes, where it does not occur with lower depth of unrolling. Robot is not a new field. It has been around for decades. In fact, most people have robots in their own home, even if they don't recognize the robots as such. For example, a dishwasher automatically washes and dries your dishes, then grinds up the rinsed-off food so the organic matter doesn't clog your drains. A washing machine soaks, soaps, agitates, and rinses your clothes. Down the street, the car wash-n-wax cleans, brushes, washes, and waxes your car, all for a few dollars. One of the better known home-oriented robots is robot vacuum cleaner which has already good cleaner for assistant house keeper. In this paper, we suggest that home security system using robot vacuum cleaner. Our robot vacuum cleaner makes an additional security function using camera. But, these technologies lack in provision of the authentication architecture of customers for the accountability, confidentiality. This paper presents the architecture of authentication mechanism to deal with the specific challenges arising from these applications and to overcome the weakness of traditional architecture for the secured infrastructure of home network environment. As the number of Internet services is growing rapidly, the network users need a framework to locate and utilize those services that are available in the Internet. As a result, dynamic service discovery plays an important role in certain networks, such as P2P networks. Recently many P2P mechanisms have been proposed which focus on the naming and discovery protocols. However, because these mechanisms do not provide congestion management and priority-based scheduling in P2P networks, they cannot provide an efficient communication among the nodes. The paper describes a collaborative assistance approach with spatio-temporal planning, which requires user's active participation in the problem solving task. The proposed collaborative assistance system operates on a region-based representation structure, which allows for partial specification of constraints at different levels of granularity. Weakly specified constraints contribute on the one hand to high computational complexity when generating alternative solutions and on the other hand to large solution spaces. The paper introduces Partial Order, Neighboring Regions and Partial Order of Neighboring Regions heuristics, which allow for pruning of significant parts of the search space, and produce hierarchical structuring of the solution space. Resulting hierarchical organization of the solution space reflects human mental processing of geographic information. This paper addresses the problem of scheduling periodic tasks on a uniprocessor using static priority assignment without preemption. The problem of non-preemptive fixed priority scheduling has received little attention until recently, while real-life applications are often based on non-preemptive systems especially in case of embedded systems. In this paper, we show that Rate Monotonic priority assignment is optimal for non-preemptive scheduling when each task's relative deadline is equal to its period. We have derived a schedulability bound for non-preemptive Rate Monotonic scheduling by using period ratio of the tasks to provide a guarantee that tasks will meet their deadlines. Since the obtained bound is relatively small comparing with the preemptive scheduling, we also propose a method for designing high-utilization non-preemptive system to enhance the utilization bound. The lack of source IP address checking makes it easy for the attackers to spoof the source address. Spoofing Prevention Method (SPM), as a prospective candidate to be deployed in the Internet, is a newly proposed scheme to solve this problem. However, there is no work on SPM prototype system. In this paper, we present our experience in achieving a prototype system for SPM. In addition to realizing the basic idea of SPM described in the original paper, we make the following three contributions: First, the detail design is made for the whole SPM system architecture and detail mechanisms. Second, several important issues for SPM system are addressed, e.g., how to carry the key required by SPM, the MTU problem, etc. Third, a prototype system is made and some experiments are done with this prototype system. Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) with a promising future in wireless backhauling applications have attracted the attention of many network research centers and academic researches. High throughput and low delay as essential requirements of a wireless back-bone network demand new topology control algorithms as well as new optimization metrics. In this paper, a topology control algorithm compliant with the structure of WMNs is proposed, as well as a new metric combining the characteristics of different network layers. The proposed metric is compared with the conventional ones such as distance and interference where even an increase of over 100% in the capacity of the network is presented by applying this metric. This paper deals with the realization of retrieval and feature description systems for clusters by using logical rule generations based on the Genetic Programming (GP). At first, whole data is divided into several clusters and the rules are improved based the GP. The fitness of individuals is defined in proportion to the hits of corresponding logical expression to the samples in targeted cluster c, but also in inversely proportion to the hits outside the cluster c. In this situation, a study on efficient access control model using relational security model is required. The paper proposes a novel access control model for OWL ontologies in relational database systems. The access control is realized through evaluating queries against an OWL data view. When we want to measure parameters of the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) from remote sensing image directly, the sharp edges are usually used as targets. But for noise, blur and the complexity of the images, fully automatic locating the expected edge is still an unsolved problem. This paper improves the semi-auto edge extraction algorithm of live-wire [1] and introduces it into the knife-edge method [8] of MTF measuring in remote sensing image. Live-wire segmentation is a novel interactive algorithm for efficient, accurate, and reproducible boundary extraction that requires minimal user input with a mouse. The image is transformed into a weighted graph with variety restrictions. Edge searching is based on dynamic programming of Dijkstra's algorithm [5]. Optimal boundaries are computed and selected at interactive rates as the user moves the mouse starting from a manually specified seed point. In this paper, a promoted model of live-wire is proposed to measuring the on orbit Modulation Transfer Function for high spatial resolution imaging satellites. We add the no-linear diffusion filter in the local cost function to ensure the accurateness of the extraction of edges. In the recent years, classification models based on mathematical programming have been widely used in business intelligence. In this paper, a new Multi-Criteria Quadratic-Programming Linear Classification (MQLC) model is proposed and tested with VIP E-Mail dataset. This experimental study uses a variance of K-fold Cross-Validation to demonstrate the accuracy and stability of the model. Finally, we compare our model with the decision tree by using commercial software C5.0. The result indicates that the proposed MQLC model performs better than decision tree on small samples. In the field of 3D model retrieval, the combination of different kinds of shape feature is a promising way to improve retrieval performance. And the efficient categorization of 3D models is critical for organizing models. The paper proposes a combination method, which automatically decides the fixed weight of different shape features. Based on the combined shape feature, the paper applies the cluster analysis technique to efficiently categorize 3D models according to their shape. The standard 3D model database, Princeton Shape Benchmark, is adopted in experiment and our method shows good performance not only in improving retrieval performance but also in categorization. Classification is an important task in the fields of data mining and pattern recognition. Now there have been many algorithms for this task, while most of them do not focus on the application in databases. In this paper we extend the definition of function dependency, prove the properties of the extended function dependency, and on this basis propose an algorithm for classification. In wireless sensor networks, an efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is critical, especially in terms of energy consumption and message latency. This paper introduces a novel protocol that nodes periodically sleep to conserve energy. When the source node has data packets to send, it uses a wakeup message to awake the sleeping nodes. In this paper the Vehicle Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is examined. As widely agreed VANETs must rely heavily on node-to-node communication while ease of access has to be assured at the same time. Beside the performance ensuring data authentication is another concern in VANETs. In our paper we focus on security aspects for the VANETs that aim to ensure data authentication and allow to ensure data secrecy. Ensuring data secrecy is not a standard feature of the VANETs since usually it is assumed that nodes in the network has to be able to receive all information send over the channel. Users are interested greatly in a user creative movie (UCM) production among various online contents. The UCM production using music and picture is the method that users make the movie easily. However, the UCM production service has the problem that any association does not exist in the music and picture. To solve this problem, we propose the UCM production method which uses a music analysis and picture analysis in the paper. A music analysis finds a picture change time according to the rhythm. This finds strong part of the sound which uses Root-Mean-Square (RMS). A picture analysis finds the association at each picture and arranges the sequence which the picture appears. This classifies the picture which uses structure simplicity of the picture (SSP) and face region detection. In any parallel programming language; collective communication operations involve more than one thread/process and act on multiple streams of data. The language's API provides both algorithmic and run-time system support to optimize the performance of these operations. Some developers, however, choose to play clever and start from the language's primitive operations and write their own versions of the collective operations. The question that always pops up: Are these developers wise? In this paper, we check the case of UPC (Universal Parallel C) and prove that in some circumstances, it is wiser for developers to optimize starting from UPC's primitive operations. In our testing we found out that optimization using primitive UPC operations by the developers can have better performance than readily available UPC's collective operations. In this paper, we pin point specific optimizations at both the algorithmic and the runtime support levels that developers could use to uncover missed optimization opportunities. We also propose a novel approach to implementing UPC collective operations across clusters. Under this methodology, performance-critical components are moved close to the network. This paper is concerned with the design and implementation of the context handlers for context-awareness in a ubiquitous computing environment. The context handlers address design issues of context handling: abstraction of context values, semantic interoperability of context information, logical and semantic interpretation of context information, and structuralization of context information for specifying various situations. To address these design issues, we define a structural context model, a context schema based on ontology, and user-friendly context value ontology. We also use ontology reasoning and rule-based reasoning. This paper focuses on context handling methods in a context-aware system. In hostile environments, the communication content and communication route need to be shielded from malicious attackers. The AnonDSR (Anonymous Dynamic Source Routing for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks) protocol has been proposed to ensure security and anonymity in ad-hoc networks. The protocol transmits data after establishing an encryption key and communication route. One weakness of the AnonDSR is that it consists of 3 steps: security parameter establishment, route discovery, and data transmission. In this paper, we propose a variant of AnonDSR that reduces the 3 steps into 2 steps. Computational origami is the computer assisted study of origami as a branch of science of shapes. The origami construction is a countably finite sequence of fold steps, each consisting in folding along a line. In this paper, we formalize origami construction. We model origami paper by a set of faces over which we specify relations of overlay and adjacency. A fold line is determined by a specific fold method. After folding along the fold line, the structure of origami is transformed; some faces are divided and moved, new faces are created and therefore the relations over the faces change. We give a formal method to construct the model origami. The model furthermore induces a graph of layers of faces. We give two origami examples as the application of our model. They exhibit non-trivial aspects of origami which are revealed only by formal modeling.
