Abstract
Reports that Russia's premier newspaper `Kommersant' was temporarily shut down by fire officials who said the newspaper lacked proper extinguishers and smoking rooms. Why the newspaper's owner blamed Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov for the closure of the paper; Reason for the conflict between Luzhkov and the paper's Boris Berezovsky; Complaints from Russian media regarding election-related harassment.
The article reports on the suit involving the joint-stock company Kommersant' Publishing House against the Federal Service for Supervision over Observance of Legislation in the Sphere of Mass Communications and Protection of the Cultural Heritage (Rosokhrankultura). The suit places concern to the editorial board of the newspaper Kommersant" concerning the impermissibility of violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation. Court decision in lieu of the filed suit is discussed.
