Abstract
A chart is presented that lists the results of Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment on submitted research papers indicating the high percentage for medical and life sciences research as internationally excellent and world-leading followed by arts and humanities papers and social sciences.
The article reports on the findings of research conducted by anthropologist Alex Bentley entitled "Random drift versus selection in academic vocabulary," which suggests that the use of buzzwords by academics in their research papers can make their work cited more often by their peers. The research found that the social sciences were more at risk of buzzword copying than the physical sciences. Graham Crow, professor of sociology at the University of Southampton disputed the idea that the social sciences were more at risk of buzzword copying.
Points out the need for scholars to reexamine families and how people connect with each other in everyday life. Increase diversity of living arrangements based on the statistics from a working paper released by the Economic and Social Research Council; Misconception about the traditional concept of family.
