Information about several papers discussed during the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology meeting on optometry is presented. The meeting highlights several research findings on compliance, nutritional benefits, surgical achievements, and the impact of gene variants on the potential development of glaucoma. Specifically, the event regards the studies on gene mapping, the connection of blood flow to the glaucomatous process and the rates of surgical success.
Information about several papers discussed at a symposium on the management of glaucoma at the 2006 American Academy of Ophthalmology joint meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada is presented. It is designed to guide ophthalmologists in the management of glaucoma especially on the evaluation of disease progression and treatment with medical therapy to improve patient care. It tackled the importance of early detection of the disease and the exact use of laser and surgical options for disease management.
Information about the papers discussed at the 2006 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) conference is presented. It is stated that the ophthalmology community is examining various ways regarding the right technology to be used to assess glaucoma care including scanning laser polarimetry (GDx), scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (HRT) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). It highlights the results of the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS) discussed during the meeting. INSET: Follow-up on 2006 Roundtable.
Information about several papers discussed at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) meeting in 2013 is presented. Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2) results showed that participants treated with the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin without beta-carotene had their risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) reduced at about 18%. Automated standardization in evaluating corneal superficial punctuate keratitis (SPK) is shown not to be invariably applicable.
