Digital technologies sustain today's world. Every part of the world is working towards digital technologies, which none of us can eliminate. Enormous growth is achieved only by unexpected acceleration by digital technologies, including the Internet of Everything (IoE), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deep Learning (DL), and many more. These technologies started occupying all the engineering sectors, including manufacturing. This paper focuses on tribology analysis related to manufacturing concerning various digital manufacturing technologies. The paper narration includes Tribology using digital technologies wherein the journals and patent landscape analysis abet them. In trend, Tribology utilizes all these technologies today and envisages its growth with the predominant technological invention in the border view. The survey of various literature reveals that only three digital technologies, including AI, ML, and ANN, are used by tribologists around the globe. The development of fragility curves is an important step in seismic risk assessment within the scope of performance‐based earthquake engineering. The goal of this work is to use machine learning methods (regression‐based tools) to forecast the large‐span precast parking structural responses and fragility curves. This study proposes five predicting models based on machine learning to evaluate the seismic performance of the large‐span precast parking structures, including: neural networks, genetic algorithm‐based neural networks, support vector machine, decision tree and random forest. A database that includes 453 numerical synthetic results was used to train and test the machine learning models. The seismic performance of large‐span precast parking structures were predicted using the constructed machine learning models. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of input parameters was conducted. From this paper we can conclude that: (1) the genetic optimization‐based neural networks' predicting model has the most accurate predictive ability for seismic fragility estimation and (2) the structural responses and the fragility curves of parking structures are related to the differences of the stiffness of the connectors and the number of floors, of which the stiffness of the connectors should be given special attention. A fuel cell is an energy conversion device that utilizes hydrogen energy through an electrochemical reaction. Despite their many advantages, such as high efficiency, zero emissions, and fast startup, fuel cells have not yet been fully commercialized due to deficiencies in service life, cost, and performance. Efficient evaluation methods for performance and service life are critical for the design and optimization of fuel cells. The purpose of this paper was to review the application of common machine learning algorithms in fuel cells. The significance and status of machine learning applications in fuel cells are briefly described. Common machine learning algorithms, such as artificial neural networks, support vector machines, and random forests are introduced, and their applications in fuel cell performance prediction and optimization are comprehensively elaborated. The review revealed that machine learning algorithms can be successfully used for performance prediction, service life prediction, and fault diagnosis in fuel cells, with good accuracy in solving nonlinear problems. Combined with optimization algorithms, machine learning models can further carry out the optimization of design and operating parameters to achieve multiple optimization goals with good accuracy and efficiency. It is expected that this review paper could help the reader comprehend the state of the art of machine learning applications in fuel fuels and shed light on further development directions in fuel cell research. Due to the complex interaction of urban and mountainous floods, assessing flood susceptibility in mountainous urban areas presents a challenging task in environmental research and risk analysis. Data-driven machine learning methods can evaluate flood susceptibility in mountainous urban areas lacking essential hydrological data, utilizing remote sensing data and limited historical inundation records. In this study, two ensemble learning algorithms, Random Forest (RF) and XGBoost, were adopted to assess the flood susceptibility of Kunming, a typical mountainous urban area prone to severe flood disasters. A flood inventory was created using flood observations from 2018 to 2022. The spatial database included 10 explanatory factors, encompassing climatic, geomorphic, and anthropogenic factors. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) were selected for model comparison. To minimize the influence of expert opinions on model training, this study employed a strategy of uniformly random sampling in historically non-flooded areas for negative sample selection. The results demonstrated that (1) ensemble learning algorithms offer higher accuracy than other machine learning methods, with RF achieving the highest accuracy, evidenced by an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.87, followed by XGBoost at 0.84, surpassing both ANN (0.83) and SVM (0.82); (2) the interpretability of ensemble learning highlighted the differences in the potential distribution of the training data's positive and negative samples. Feature importance in ensemble learning can be utilized to minimize human bias in the collection of flooded-site samples, more targeted flood susceptibility maps of the study area's road network were obtained; and (3) ensemble learning algorithms exhibited greater stability and robustness in datasets with varied negative samples, as evidenced by their performance in F1-Score, Kappa, and AUC metrics. This paper further substantiates the superiority of ensemble learning in flood susceptibility assessment tasks from the perspectives of accuracy, interpretability, and robustness, enhances the understanding of the impact of negative samples on such assessments, and optimizes the specific process for urban flood susceptibility assessment using data-driven methods. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a leading approach in performance analysis and discovering newer benchmarks, and the traditional DEA models cannot forecast the future efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs). Machine learning, such as the artificial neural networks (ANNs), support vector machine/regression (SVM/SVR), projection pursuit regression (PPR), etc., have been viewed as beneficial for managers in predicting system behaviors. PPR is especially suitable for small and non-normal distribution samples, the usual cases in DEA analysis. This paper integrates DEA and PPR to cover the shortcomings we faced while using DEA and DEA-BPNN, DEA-SVR, etc. This study explores the advantages of combining these complementary methods into an integrated performance measurement and prediction model. Firstly, the DEA approach is used to evaluate and rank the efficiency of DMUs. Secondly, we establish two DEA-PPR combined models to describe the DEA efficiency scores (also called the production function) and the DEA-efficient frontier function. The first combined model's input variables are input–output indicators in the DEA model, and the output variable is the DEA efficiency. In the second model, its input variables are input or output indicators in the DEA model, and the output variable is the optimal input indicator for input-oriented DEA or the output indicator for output-oriented DEA. We conducted positive research on two examples with actual data and virtual small, medium-sized, and large samples. Compared with the DEA-BPNN and DEA-SVR models, the results show that the DEA-PPR combined model has more vital global optimization ability, better convergence, higher accuracy, and a simple topology. The DEA-PPR model can obtain robust results for both small and large cases. The DEA-BPNN and DEA-SVR models cannot obtain robust results for small and medium-sized samples due to overfitting. Purpose: This study seeks to understand the connection of methodology by finding relevant papers and their full review using the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses" (PRISMA). Design/methodology/approach: Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns have gained popularity in construction in recent decades as they offer the benefit of constituent materials and cost-effectiveness. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Gene Expression Programming (GEP) and Decision Trees (DTs) are some of the approaches that have been widely used in recent decades in structural engineering to construct predictive models, resulting in effective and accurate decision making. Despite the fact that there are numerous research studies on the various parameters that influence the axial compression capacity (ACC) of CFST columns, there is no systematic review of these Machine Learning methods. Findings: The implications of a variety of structural characteristics on machine learning performance parameters are addressed and reviewed. The comparison analysis of current design codes and machine learning tools to predict the performance of CFST columns is summarized. The discussion results indicate that machine learning tools better understand complex datasets and intricate testing designs. Multi-view learning (MVL) is a rapidly evolving direction in the field of machine learning. Despite the positive results, most algorithms that combine multi-view learning with twin support vector machines (TSVM) focus on the traditional machine learning domain. No method has been accomplished for combining MVL, TSVM, and deep learning. In this paper, we propose two novel multi-view deep models to solve the multiclass classification problem, namely deep multi-view twin support vector machines (DMvTSVM) based on deep neural network (DNN) and auto-encoder (AE) network. They find two non-parallel hyperplanes such that each hyperplane is as close to its own class as possible while being as far away from the other class as possible. Meanwhile, we apply similarity regularization to the output of the Deep TSVM classifier for each view to learn consensus information between views, and use this to refine the joint weights of the deep model and TSVM. Finally, the novel models employ the o n e − v s − r e s t strategy to allow the DMvTSVM classifier to solve the multiclass classification problems. In the field of gas turbine (GT) monitoring and diagnostics, GT trip is of great concern for manufactures and users. In fact, due to the number of issues that may cause a trip, its occurrence is not infrequent, and its prediction is a quite unexplored field of research. This is demonstrated by the fact that, despite its relevance, a comprehensive study on the reliability of predicting GT trip has not been proposed yet. To fill this gap, this paper investigates the fusion of five data-driven base models by means of voting and stacking, in order to improve prediction accuracy and robustness. The five benchmark supervised machine learning and deep learning classifiers are k-nearest neighbors, support vector machine (SVM), Naïve Bayes (NB), decision trees (DTs), and long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networks. While voting just averages the predictions of base models, without providing additional pieces of information, stacking is a technique used to aggregate heterogeneous models by training an additional machine learning model (namely, stacked ensemble model) on the predictions of the base models. The analyses carried out in this paper employ filed observations of both safe operation and trip events, derived from a large fleet of industrial Siemens GTs in operation. The results demonstrate that the stacked model provides higher accuracy than base models and also outperforms voting by proving more effective, especially when the reliability of the prediction of base models is poor. A high cognitive load can overload a person, potentially resulting in catastrophic accidents. It is therefore important to ensure the level of cognitive load associated with safety-critical tasks (such as driving a vehicle) remains manageable for drivers, enabling them to respond appropriately to changes in the driving environment. Although electroencephalography (EEG) has attracted significant interest in cognitive load research, few studies have used EEG to investigate cognitive load in the context of driving. This paper presents a feasibility study on the simulation of various levels of cognitive load through designing and implementing four driving tasks. We employ machine learning-based classification techniques using EEG recordings to differentiate driving conditions. An EEG dataset containing these four driving tasks from a group of 20 participants was collected to investigate whether EEG can be used as an indicator of changes in cognitive load. The collected dataset was used to train four Deep Neural Networks and four Support Vector Machine classification models. The results showed that the best model achieved a classification accuracy of 90.37%, utilising statistical features from multiple frequency bands in 24 EEG channels. Furthermore, the Gamma and Beta bands achieved higher classification accuracy than the Alpha and Theta bands during the analysis. Machine learning approaches are increasingly being employed to forecast the key characteristics of strong ground motions, including the challenging classification of Pulse-Like (PL) ground motions. The PL ground motions are characterized by their impulsive nature and have the potential to cause significant damage to structures. The classification of PL ground motions continues to be a significant challenge due to the absence of consensus on their definition and categorization. This paper investigates the potential benefits of several Machine Learning Classifiers (MLCs) algorithms such as decision tree, random forest, logistic regression, naive Bayes, support vector machine, K-nearest neighbor, ensemble model, and artificial neural network models for predicting PL and Non-Pulse-Like (NPL) ground motions. In this regard, a dataset comprising 200 near-fault ground motions records compiled from active tectonic regions like Taiwan, Turkey, Iran, and Japan, was divided into 2 portions, with 75% used to train the model and the remaining 25% used for testing. Plots of performance metrics, confusion matrix, and receiver operating curve indicate that the ensemble classifier outperforms the other classifier with 86.2% accuracy and the lowest misclassification of PL and NPL ground motions. Additionally, the trained MLC has been compared with the existing ground motion classification models to further assess the accuracy of the different classifiers in the present study. Pulmonary auscultation is essential for detecting abnormal lung sounds during physical assessments, but its reliability depends on the operator. Machine learning (ML) models offer an alternative by automatically classifying lung sounds. ML models require substantial data, and public databases aim to address this limitation. This systematic review compares characteristics, diagnostic accuracy, concerns, and data sources of existing models in the literature. Papers published from five major databases between 1990 and 2022 were assessed. Quality assessment was accomplished with a modified QUADAS-2 tool. The review encompassed 62 studies utilizing ML models and public-access databases for lung sound classification. Artificial neural networks (ANN) and support vector machines (SVM) were frequently employed in the ML classifiers. The accuracy ranged from 49.43% to 100% for discriminating abnormal sound types and 69.40% to 99.62% for disease class classification. Seventeen public databases were identified, with the ICBHI 2017 database being the most used (66%). The majority of studies exhibited a high risk of bias and concerns related to patient selection and reference standards. Summarizing, ML models can effectively classify abnormal lung sounds using publicly available data sources. Nevertheless, inconsistent reporting and methodologies pose limitations to advancing the field, and therefore, public databases should adhere to standardized recording and labeling procedures. With the development of data collection and storage capabilities in recent decades, abundant data have been accumulated in geotechnical engineering fields, providing opportunities for the usage of machine learning approaches. Thus, a rising number of scholars are adopting machine learning techniques to settle geotechnical issues. In this paper, the application of three popular machine learning algorithms, support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), and decision tree (DT), as well as other representative algorithms in geotechnical engineering, is reviewed. Meanwhile, the applicability of diverse machine learning algorithms in settling specific geotechnical engineering issues is compared. The main findings are as follows: ANN, SVM, and DT have been widely adopted to solve a variety of geotechnical engineering issues, such as the classification of soil and rock types, predicting the properties of geotechnical materials, etc. Based on the collected relevant research, the performance of random forest (RF) in sorting soil types and assessing landslide susceptibility is satisfying; SVM has high precision in classifying rock types and forecasting rock deformation; and backpropagation ANNs and Hopfield ANNs are recommended to forecast rock compressive strength and soil settlement, respectively. This paper serves as a survey of recent advances in large margin training and its theoretical foundations, mostly for (nonlinear) deep neural networks (DNNs) that are probably the most prominent machine learning models for large-scale data in the community over the past decade. We generalize the formulation of classification margins from classical research to latest DNNs, summarize theoretical connections between the margin, network generalization, and robustness, and introduce recent efforts in enlarging the margins for DNNs comprehensively. Since the viewpoint of different methods is discrepant, we categorize them into groups for ease of comparison and discussion in the paper. Hopefully, our discussions and overview inspire new research work in the community that aim to improve the performance of DNNs, and we also point to directions where the large margin principle can be verified to provide theoretical evidence why certain regularizations for DNNs function well in practice. With the development of Raman spectroscopy and the expansion of its application domains, conventional methods for spectral data analysis have manifested many limitations. Exploring new approaches to facilitate Raman spectroscopy and analysis has become an area of intensifying focus for research. It has been demonstrated that machine learning techniques can more efficiently extract valuable information from spectral data, creating unprecedented opportunities for analytical science. This paper outlines traditional and more recently developed statistical methods that are commonly used in machine learning (ML) and ML‐algorithms for different Raman spectroscopy‐based classification and recognition applications. The methods include Principal Component Analysis, K‐Nearest Neighbor, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine, as well as neural network‐based deep learning algorithms such as Artificial Neural Networks, Convolutional Neural Networks, etc. The bulk of the review is dedicated to the research advances in machine learning applied to Raman spectroscopy from several fields, including material science, biomedical applications, food science, and others, which reached impressive levels of analytical accuracy. The combination of Raman spectroscopy and machine learning offers unprecedented opportunities to achieve high throughput and fast identification in many of these application fields. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are increasingly used as surrogate models to increase the efficiency of stochastic reliability analyses in geotechnical engineering. This paper presents a highly efficient ML-aided reliability technique that is able to accurately predict the results of a Monte Carlo (MC) reliability study and yet performs 500 times faster. A complete MC reliability analysis on anisotropic heterogeneous slopes consisting of 120,000 simulated samples is conducted in parallel to the proposed ML-aided stochastic technique. Comparing the results of the complete MC study and the proposed ML-aided technique, the expected errors of the proposed method are realistically examined. Circumventing the time-consuming computation of factors of safety for the training datasets, the proposed technique is more efficient than previous methods. Different ML models, including random forest, support vector machine and artificial neural networks, are presented, optimised and compared. The effects of the size and type of training and testing datasets are discussed. The expected errors of the ML predicted probability of failure are characterised by different levels of soil heterogeneity and anisotropy. Using only 1% of MC samples to train ML surrogate models, the proposed technique can accurately predict the probability of failure with mean errors limited to 0.7%. Due to insufficiency of parking space, people face many problems in finding a vacant slot to park their vehicles in the parking area. This problem is giving rise to many other problems such as traffic congestion, wastage of fuel, money and time. Therefore, there is a need to develop an intelligent parking management system for better utilization of the resources. The main objective of the paper is to design an efficient parking system to search for the vacant slots in the parking area. In this paper, experiments have been conducted on standard dataset "PKLot" which consists of 695,899 images of two different parking lots. These images were captured from three different camera views under different climatic conditions like rainy, sunny and cloudy. Various machine learning (ML) techniques like Artificial Neural Network (ANN), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Naïve Bayes Classifier (NBC) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) with different parameters have been applied on the dataset. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop a predictive model for box office performance based on the textual information in movie scripts in the green-lighting process of movie production. Design/methodology/approach: The authors use Latent Dirichlet Allocation to determine the hidden textual structure in movie scripts by extracting topic probabilities as predictors for classification. The extracted topic probabilities are used as inputs for the predictive model for the box office performance. For the predictive model, the authors utilize a variety of classification algorithms such as logistic classification, decision trees, random forests, k-nearest neighbor algorithms, support vector machines and artificial neural networks, and compare their relative performances in predicting movies' market performance. Findings: This approach for extracting textual information from movie scripts produces a valuable typology for movies. Moreover, our modeling approach has significant power to predict movie scripts' profitability. It provides a superior prediction performance compared to previous benchmarks, such as that of Eliashberg et al. (2007). Research limitations/implications: This work contributes to literature on predicting the box office performance in the green-lighting process and literature regarding suggesting models for the idea screening stage in the new product development process. Besides, this is one of the few studies that use movie script data to predict movies' financial performance by proposing an approach to integrate text mining models and machine learning algorithms with movie experts' intuition. Practical implications: First, the authors' approach can significantly reduce the financial risk associated with movie production decisions before the pre-production stage. Second, this paper proposes an approach that is applicable at a very early stage of new product development, such as the idea screening stage. The authors also introduce an online-based movie scenario database system that can help movie studios make more systematic and profitable decisions in the green-lighting process. Third, this approach can help movie studios estimate movie scripts' financial value. Hand gesture recognition system helps in development of interface system for entering text in human computer interaction. In this paper, we have presented a hand gesture recognition system designed for dataset consisting of numerals and alphabets in lower case. The proposed system detects the hand with the help of skin color and motion information. Hand tracking is done with the help of two-level tracking system using modified Kanade–Lucas–Tomasi (KLT) tracking algorithm. The existing KLT was not able to track the gesture trajectory once the skin detected becomes less in area resulting in decreased number of points. In this paper, traditional KLT has been modified with a new additional feature to overcome this difficulty. In feature extraction process, a feature matrix consisting of 30 features have been created. Among these 30 features, few features like density-1, density-2, and perimeter efficiency have been introduced and are used for calculating efficiency along with some existing features. Inclusion of new features helps in improving the performance and accuracy of the system. Recognition is done using six classifiers including SVM (Support Vector machine), Decision Tree, Naïve Bayes, k-NN (K nearest neighbor), ANN (Artificial neural Network) and ELM (Extreme learning Machine). The experimental results prove that 89.67% of accuracy is achieved for the recognition of dataset containing both numerals and alphabets. Effects of the magnetic field and inertia on the onset of thermal convection in a horizontal bidispersive porous layer, rotating about a vertical axis, are analyzed. The Darcy equation with same temperature in the micro- and macrophases is used to characterize the fluid motion. The Vadasz number is taken into account in a generalized Darcy equation for the macrophase. The eigenvalue problem obtained from the linear stability analysis is solved analytically for free–free boundaries. Moving one step further from the traditional linear stability analysis, machine learning tools are introduced in this paper to include the effect of multiple parameters on the marginal state of the system. Machine learning techniques have been implemented to identify the mode of instability with respect to different parameters. In particular, classification algorithms, namely, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Support vector machine, are used to examine the onset of oscillatory convection and stationary convection. The required data for training of the algorithms are generated from the results of linear stability analysis. It is found that ANN with the sufficient number of hidden layers along with good choice of training dataset can predict the mode of instability even on the small variation in a given parameter. The combined effect of rotation, magnetic field, and inertia is to reduce the oscillatory mode of instability; hence, the system exhibits the steady mode of instability for a significant region in the three dimensional space comprising the Taylor number, the Hartman number, and the Vadasz number. Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and its clinical entity, the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) continue to represent an important health burden worldwide. Although great advances have been made towards determining the way viral genetic diversity affects clinical outcome, genetic association studies have been hindered by the complexity of their interactions with the human host. This study provides an innovative approach for the identification and analysis of epidemiological associations between HIV Viral Infectivity Factor (Vif) protein mutations and four clinical endpoints (Viral load and CD4 T cell numbers at time of both clinical debut and on historical follow-up of patients. Furthermore, this study highlights an alternative approach to the analysis of imbalanced datasets, where patients without specific mutations outnumber those with mutations. Imbalanced datasets are still a challenge hindering the development of classification algorithms through machine learning. This research deals with Decision Trees, Naïve Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machines (SVMs), and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). This paper proposes a new methodology considering an undersampling approach to deal with imbalanced datasets and introduces two novel and differing approaches (MAREV-1 and MAREV-2). As theses approaches do not involve human pre-determined and hypothesis-driven combinations of motifs having functional or clinical relevance, they provide a unique opportunity to discover novel complex motif combinations of interest. Despite the existence of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies that address biomechanical deficits, the persistence of recurrent ankle problems in 70% of patients with acute ankle sprains highlights the unresolved nature of this issue. Artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a promising tool to identify definitive predictors for ankle sprains. This paper aims to summarize the use of AI in investigating the ankle biomechanics of healthy and subjects with ankle sprains. Articles published between 2010 and 2023 were searched from five electronic databases. 59 papers were included for analysis with regards to: i). types of motion tested (functional vs. purposeful ankle movement); ii) types of biomechanical parameters measured (kinetic vs kinematic); iii) types of sensor systems used (lab-based vs field-based); and, iv) AI techniques used. Most studies (83.1%) examined biomechanics during functional motion. Single kinematic parameter, specifically ankle range of motion, could obtain accuracy up to 100% in identifying injury status. Wearable sensor exhibited high reliability for use in both laboratory and on-field/clinical settings. AI algorithms primarily utilized electromyography and joint angle information as input data. Support vector machine was the most used supervised learning algorithm (18.64%), while artificial neural network demonstrated the highest accuracy in eight studies. The potential for remote patient monitoring is evident with the adoption of field-based devices. Nevertheless, AI-based sensors are underutilized in detecting ankle motions at risk of sprain. Software defect prediction is used to assist developers in finding potential defects and allocating their testing efforts as the scale of software grows. Traditional software defect prediction methods primarily concentrate on creating static code metrics that are fed into machine learning classifiers to predict defects in the code. To achieve the desired classifier performance, appropriate design decisions are required for deep neural network (DNN) and convolutional neural network (CNN) models. This is especially important when predicting software module fault proneness. When correctly identified, this could help to reduce testing costs by concentrating efforts on the modules that have been identified as fault prone. This paper proposes a CONVSDP and DNNSDP (cognitive and neural network) approach for predicting software defects. Python Programming Language with Keras and TensorFlow was used as the framework. From three NASA system datasets (CM1, KC3, and PC1) selected from PROMISE repository, a comparative analysis with machine learning algorithms (such as Random Forest (RF), Decision Trees (DT), Nave Bayes (NF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) in terms of F-Measure (known as F1-score), Recall, Precision, Accuracy, Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) and Area Under Curve (AUC) has been presented. We extract four dataset attributes from the original datasets and use them to estimate the development effort, development time, and number of errors. The number of operands, operators, branch count, and executable LOCs are among these attributes. Furthermore, a new parameter called cognitive weight (Wc) of Basic Control Structure (BCS) is proposed to make the proposed cognitive technique more effective, and a cognitive data set of 8 features for NASA system datasets (CM1, KC3, and PC1) selected from the PROMISE repository to predict software defects is created. The experimental results showed that the CONVSDP and DNNSDP models was comparable to existing classifiers in both original datasets and cognitive data sets, and that it outperformed them in most of the experiments. Knowledge about tropical cyclone (TC) size is essential for disaster prevention and mitigation strategies, but due to the limitations of observations, TC size data from the open ocean are scarce. In this paper, several models are developed to identify TC size parameters, including the radius of maximum wind (RMW) and the radii of 34 (R34), 50 (R50), and 64 (R64) knot winds, using various machine learning algorithms based on infrared channel imagery of geostationary meteorological satellites over the western North Pacific (WNP). Through evaluation and verification, the trained and optimized support vector machine models are proposed for RMW and R34, whereas the general regression neural network models are set up for R50 and R64. According to the independent-sample evaluations against aircraft observations (1981 - 1987)/Joint Typhoon Warning Center best track data (2017 - 2019), the mean absolute errors of R34, R50, R64, and RMW are 54/58, 34/38, N/A/21, and 25/25 km, respectively. The corresponding median errors are 39/46, 34/31, N/A/17, and 17/19 km, respectively. There is an overall slight underestimation of the parameters, which needs to be analyzed and improved in a future study. The monitoring of physical activities and recognition of motion disorders belong to important diagnostical tools in neurology and rehabilitation. The goal of the present paper is in the contribution to this topic by (1) analysis of accelerometric signals recorded by wearable sensors located at specific body positions and by (2) implementation of deep learning methods to classify signal features. This paper uses the general methodology to analysis of accelerometric signals acquired during cycling at different routes followed by the global positioning system. The experimental dataset includes 850 observations that were recorded by a mobile device in the spine area (L3 verterbra) for cycling routes with the different slope. The proposed methodology includes the use of deep learning convolutional neural networks with five layers applied to signal values transformed into the frequency domain without specification of any signal features. The accuracy of discrimination between different motion patterns for the uphill and downhill cycling and recognition of 4 classes associated with different route slopes was 96.6% with the loss criterion of 0.275 for sigmoidal activation functions. These results were compared with those evaluated for selected sets of features estimated for each observation and classified by the support vector machine, Bayesian methods, and the two-layer neural network. The best cross-validation error of 0.361 was achieved for the two-layer neural network model with the sigmoidal and softmax transfer functions. Our methodology suggests that deep learning neural networks are efficient in the assessment of motion activities for automated data processing and have a wide range of applications, including rehabilitation, early diagnosis of neurological problems, and possible use in engineering as well. The classification of biological neuron types and networks poses challenges to the full understanding of the human brain's organisation and functioning. In this paper, we develop a novel objective classification model of biological neuronal morphology and electrical types and their networks, based on the attributes of neuronal communication using supervised machine learning solutions. This presents advantages compared to the existing approaches in neuroinformatics since the data related to mutual information or delay between neurons obtained from spike trains are more abundant than conventional morphological data. We constructed two open-access computational platforms of various neuronal circuits from the Blue Brain Project realistic models, named Neurpy and Neurgen. Then, we investigated how we could perform network tomography with cortical neuronal circuits for the morphological, topological and electrical classification of neurons. We extracted the simulated data of 10,000 network topology combinations with five layers, 25 morphological type (m-type) cells, and 14 electrical type (e-type) cells. We applied the data to several different classifiers (including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Trees, Random Forest, and Artificial Neural Networks). We achieved accuracies of up to 70%, and the inference of biological network structures using network tomography reached up to 65% of accuracy. Objective classification of biological networks can be achieved with cascaded machine learning methods using neuron communication data. SVM methods seem to perform better amongst used techniques. Our research not only contributes to existing classification efforts but sets the road-map for future usage of brain–machine interfaces towards an in vivo objective classification of neurons as a sensing mechanism of the brain's structure. Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is network of interconnected medical devices (smart watches, pace makers, prosthetics, glucometer, etc.), software applications, and health systems and services. IoMT has successfully addressed many old healthcare problems. But it comes with its drawbacks essentially with patient's information privacy and security related issues that comes from IoMT architecture. Using obsolete systems can bring security vulnerabilities and draw attacker's attention emphasizing the need for effective solution to secure and protect the data traffic in IoMT network. Recently, intrusion detection system (IDS) is regarded as an essential security solution for protecting IoMT network. In the past decades, machines learning (ML) algorithms have demonstrated breakthrough results in the field of intrusion detection. Notwithstanding, to our knowledge, there is no work that investigates the power of machines learning algorithms for intrusion detection in IoMT network. This paper aims to fill this gap of knowledge investigating the application of different ML algorithms for intrusion detection in IoMT network. The investigation analysis includes ML algorithms such as K-nearest neighbor, Naïve Bayes, support vector machine, artificial neural network and decision tree. The benchmark dataset, Bot-IoT which is publicly available with comprehensive set of attacks was used to train and test the effectiveness of all ML models considered for investigation. Also, we used comprehensive set of evaluation metrics to compare the power of ML algorithms with regard to their detection accuracy for intrusion in IoMT networks. Keeping railway tracks in good operational condition is one of the most important tasks for railway owners. As a result, railway companies have to conduct track inspections periodically, which is costly and time-consuming. In recent publications, capacitive sensing floors have been shown to be able to localize individuals in an unobtrusive manner. This paper demonstrates that it might be possible to utilize the walking characteristics extracted from a capacitive floor to recognize subject and gender. Several neural network-based machine learning techniques are developed for recognizing the gender and identity of a target. These algorithms were trained and validated using a dataset constructed from the information captured from 23 subjects while walking, alone, on the sensing floor. A deep neural network comprising a Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (BLSTM) provided the most accurate identity performance, classifying individuals with an accuracy of 98.12% on the test data. On the other hand, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was the most accurate for gender recognition, attaining an accuracy of 93.3%. The neural network-based algorithms are benchmarked against Support Vector Machine (SVM), which is a classifier used in many reported works for floor-based recognition tasks. Background: Under-five mortality is a matter of serious concern for child health as well as the social development of any country. The paper aimed to find the accuracy of machine learning models in predicting under-five mortality and identify the most significant factors associated with under-five mortality. Method: The data was taken from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-IV) of Uttar Pradesh. First, we used multivariate logistic regression due to its capability for predicting the important factors, then we used machine learning techniques such as decision tree, random forest, Naïve Bayes, K- nearest neighbor (KNN), logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM), neural network, and ridge classifier. Each model's accuracy was checked by a confusion matrix, accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, Cohen's Kappa, and area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC). Information gain rank was used to find the important factors for under-five mortality. Data analysis was performed using, STATA-16.0, Python 3.3, and IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 27.0 software. Result: By applying the machine learning models, results showed that the neural network model was the best predictive model for under-five mortality when compared with other predictive models, with model accuracy of (95.29% to 95.96%), recall (71.51% to 81.03%), precision (36.64% to 51.83%), F1 score (50.46% to 62.68%), Cohen's Kappa value (0.48 to 0.60), AUROC range (93.51% to 96.22%) and precision-recall curve range (99.52% to 99.73%). The neural network was the most efficient model, but logistic regression also shows well for predicting under-five mortality with accuracy (94% to 95%)., AUROC range (93.4% to 94.8%), and precision-recall curve (99.5% to 99.6%). The number of living children, survival time, wealth index, child size at birth, birth in the last five years, the total number of children ever born, mother's education level, and birth order were identified as important factors influencing under-five mortality. Conclusion: The neural network model was a better predictive model compared to other machine learning models in predicting under-five mortality, but logistic regression analysis also shows good results. In this research, we replace the traditional methods of research used in the past for judging the mental health of the society, with the latest artificial intelligence techniques to predict these components for attaining the best human capital. In the past, researchers have point out major flaws in predicting psychological issue and addressing a right solution to the human resource working in organizations of the world. In order to give solution to these issues, we used five different psychological issues pertinent to human beings for accurate prediction of human resource personality that effect the overall performance of the employee. In this regard, a sample of 500 data has been collected to train and test on computer through python for selecting the best model that will outperform all the other models. We used supervised AI techniques like support vector machine linear, support vector machine radial basis function, decision tree model, logistic regression, and neural networks. Results proved that psychological issue data from employee of different organizations are better means for predicting the overall performance based on personality traits than using either of them alone. University dropout rates are a problem that presents many negative consequences. It is an academic issue and carries an unfavorable economic impact. In recent years, significant efforts have been devoted to the early detection of students likely to drop out. This paper uses data corresponding to dropout candidates after their first year in the third largest face-to-face university in Europe, with the goal of predicting likely dropout either at the beginning of the course of study or at the end of the first semester. In this prediction, we considered the five major program areas. Different techniques have been used: first, a Feature Selection Process in order to identify the variables more correlated with dropout; then, some Machine Learning Models (Support Vector Machines, Decision Trees and Artificial Neural Networks) as well as a Logistic Regression. The results show that dropout detection does not work only with enrollment variables, but it improves after the first semester results. Academic performance is always a relevant variable, but there are others, such as the level of preference that the student had over the course that he or she was finally able to study. The success of the techniques depends on the program areas. Machine Learning obtains the best results, but a simple Logistic Regression model can be used as a reasonable baseline. Heart disease is among the leading causes of mortality globally. Predicting cardiovascular disease is a major difficulty in clinical data analysis. AI has been demonstrated to be powerful in deciding and anticipating an enormous measure of information created by the health domain. We provide a unique method for finding essential traits employing machine learning approaches in this paper, which enhances the effectiveness of identifying heart diseases. Decision tree (DT), support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), and K-nearest neighbor (KNN) are the classification techniques used to create the proposed system. Ensemble stacking integrates the four classification models to create a single best-fit predictive model using logistic regression. Many explorations have been directed at the identification of cardiac infection; however, the exactness of the outcomes is poor. Accordingly, to further enhance the efficiency, Moth-Flame Optimization (MFO) algorithm is proposed. The feature selection strategies are used to improve the classification accuracy while shortening the execution time of the classification system. Medical data are used to assess the probability of heart disease based on BP, age, gender, chest ache, cholesterol, blood sugar, and other variables. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common types of cancers in South China and Southeast Asia. Clinical data has shown that early detection is essential for improving treatment effectiveness and survival rate. Unfortunately, because the early symptoms of NPC are rather minor and similar to that of diseases such as Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS), early detection is a challenge. This paper proposes using machine learning methods to detect NPC using routine medical test data, namely Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), k-Nearest-Neighbor (KNN) and Logistic Regression (LR). We collected a dataset containing 523 newly diagnosed NPC patients before treatment, 501 newly diagnosed CRS patients before treatment as well as 600 healthy controls. The routine medical test data including age, gender, blood test features, liver function test features, and urine sediment test features. For comparison, we also used data from Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) antibody tests, which is a specialized test not included among routine medical tests. In our first test, all four methods were tested on classifying NPC vs CRS vs controls; RF gives the best overall performance. Using only routine medical test data, it gives an accuracy of 83.1%, outperforming LR by 12%. In our second test, using only routine medical test data, when classifying NPC vs non-NPC (i.e. CRS or controls), RF achieves an accuracy of 88.2%. In our third test, when classifying NPC vs. controls, RF using only routine test data achieves an accuracy significantly better than RF using only EBV antibody data. Finally, in our last test, RF trained with NPC vs controls, using routine test data only, continued to perform well on an entirely separate dataset. This is a promising result because preliminary NPC detection using routine medical data is easy and inexpensive to implement. Machine learning (ML) has been widely used worldwide to develop crop yield forecasting models. However, it is still challenging to identify the most critical features from a dataset. Although either feature selection (FS) or feature extraction (FX) techniques have been employed, no research compares their performances and, more importantly, the benefits of combining both methods. Therefore, this paper proposes a framework that uses non-feature reduction (All-F) as a baseline to investigate the performance of FS, FX, and a combination of both (FSX). The case study employs the vegetation condition index (VCI)/temperature condition index (TCI) to develop 21 rice yield forecasting models for eight sub-regions in Vietnam based on ML methods, namely linear, support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (Tree), artificial neural network (ANN), and Ensemble. The results reveal that FSX takes full advantage of the FS and FX, leading FSX-based models to perform the best in 18 out of 21 models, while 2 (1) for FS-based (FX-based) models. These FXS-, FS-, and FX-based models improve All-F-based models at an average level of 21% and up to 60% in terms of RMSE. Furthermore, 21 of the best models are developed based on Ensemble (13 models), Tree (6 models), linear (1 model), and ANN (1 model). These findings highlight the significant role of FS, FX, and specially FSX coupled with a wide range of ML algorithms (especially Ensemble) for enhancing the accuracy of predicting crop yield. In the farming industry, the Internet of Things (IoT) is crucial for boosting utility. Innovative agriculture practices and medical informatics have the potential to increase crop yield while using the same amount of input. Individuals can benefit from the Internet of Things in various ways. The intelligent farms require the creation of an IoT-based infrastructure based on sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and a network connection. The agriculture sector will gain new advantages from machine learning and IoT data analytics in terms of improving crop output quantity and quality to fulfill rising food demand. This paper described an intelligent medical informatics farming system with predictive data analytics on sensing parameters, utilizing a supervised machine learning approach in an intelligent agricultural system. The four essential components of the proposed approach are the cloud layer, fog layer, edge layer, and sensor layer. The primary goal is to enhance production and provide organic farming by adjusting farming conditions as per plant needs that are considered in experimentation. The use of machine learning on acquired sensor data from a prototype embedded model is investigated for regulating the actuators in the system. Then, an analytics and decision-making system was built at the fog layer, employing two supervised machine learning approaches including classification and regression algorithms using a support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) for effective computation over the cloud layer. The experimental results are evaluated and analyzed in MATLAB software, and it is found that the classification accuracy using SVM is much better as compared to ANN and other state of art methods. Condition monitoring of power transformers, which are key components of electrical power systems, is essential to identify incipient faults and avoid catastrophic failures. In this paper machine learning algorithms, i.e., nonlinear autoregressive neural networks and support vector machines, are proposed to model the transformer thermal behavior for the purpose of monitoring. The thermal models are developed based on the historical measurements from nine transformers comprised of two 180-MVA units, four 240-MVA units and three 1000-MVA units. The data consist of load profile, tap position, winding indicator temperature (WTI) measurement, ambient temperature, wind speed and solar radiation. The results are validated against field measurements, and it is clearly demonstrated that the alternative algorithms surpass the IEEE Annex G thermal model. An incipient thermal fault identification algorithm is then proposed and successfully used to identify an issue using measurements taken in the field. For a long time, elucidating the tectonic setting of unknown rock samples has been a focal point for geologists. Traditional methodologies for this purpose have been scrutinized increasingly due to their inherent limitations. In response to these challenges, this paper applies modern machine learning techniques to analyze the geochemical data of igneous rocks and improve understanding of tectonic settings. By employing a variety of machine learning models, including Decision Trees, K-Nearest Neighbors, Support Vector Machines, Random Forests, Extreme Gradient Boosting, and Artificial Neural Networks, and training with 23 features comprising nine major elements (SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, CaO, MgO, MnO, Na2O, K2O, and P2O5) along with 14 trace elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu), the study successfully distinguished between seven different tectonic settings. Among these models, Random Forest, Extreme Gradient Boosting, and Artificial Neural Networks demonstrated superior classification accuracy and recall rates, with accuracies of 0.85, 0.87, and 0.86, respectively. This validates the effectiveness and potential of machine learning technologies in distinguishing the tectonic settings of igneous rocks through their geochemical elements. This paper focuses on sea surface wind speed estimation using L1B level v3.1 data of reflected GNSS signals from the Cyclone GNSS (CYGNSS) mission and European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecast Reanalysis (ECMWF) wind speed data. Seven machine learning methods are applied for wind speed retrieval, i.e., Regression trees (Binary Tree (BT), Ensembles of Trees (ET), XGBoost (XGB), LightGBM (LGBM)), ANN (Artificial neural network), Stepwise Linear Regression (SLR), and Gaussian Support Vector Machine (GSVM), and a comparison of their performance is made. The wind speed is divided into two different ranges to study the suitability of the different algorithms. A total of 10 observation variables are considered as input parameters to study the importance of individual variables or combinations thereof. The results show that the LGBM model performs the best with an RMSE of 1.419 and a correlation coefficient of 0.849 in the low wind speed interval (0–15 m/s), while the ET model performs the best with an RMSE of 1.100 and a correlation coefficient of 0.767 in the high wind speed interval (15–30 m/s). The effects of the variables used in wind speed retrieval models are investigated using the XGBoost importance metric, showing that a number of variables play a very significant role in wind speed retrieval. Productivity losses caused by absenteeism at work cost U.S. employers billions of dollars each year. In addition, employers typically spend a considerable amount of time managing employees who perform poorly. By using predictive analytics and machine learning algorithms, organizations can make better decisions, thereby increasing organizational productivity, reducing costs, and improving efficiency. Thus, in this paper we propose hybrid optimization methods in order to find the most parsimonious model for absenteeism classification. We utilized data from a Brazilian courier company. In order to categorize absenteeism classes, we preprocessed the data, selected the attributes via multiple methods, balanced the dataset using the synthetic minority over-sampling method, and then employed four methods of machine learning classification: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Random Forest (RF). We selected the best model based on several validation scores, and compared its performance against the existing model. Furthermore, project managers may lack experience in machine learning, or may not have the time to spend developing machine learning algorithms. Thus, we propose a web-based interactive tool supported by cognitive analytics management (CAM) theory. The web-based decision tool enables managers to make more informed decisions, and can be used without any prior knowledge of machine learning. The median grain size of rock is the main basis for the identification of sedimentary facies, and the variation of the median grain size of rock can be used to obtain the stratum sedimentary rhythm and thus to classify the flow unit. Therefore, the median grain size of rock is an extremely important parameter for reservoir evaluation. However, there is no petrophysical method that can directly evaluate the median grain size of rock in the logging data. The predecessors used natural gamma logging data to calculate the median rock grain size (Md) based on linear and statistical analysis for medium-high porosity and permeability sandstone reservoirs work. However, for low-permeability sandstone reservoirs, the error in the fitted median grain size of rock using linear multiple regression methods is too large for the calculated results to be applied. Therefore, the calculation of the median grain size of low-permeability sandstone reservoirs is a difficult problem to be solved. In this paper, the sensitivity logging parameters of median rock grain size are optimized for low permeability sandstone reservoirs using principal component analysis obtained the grain size direction correlation curves (DEN, CNL,GR, and RD) in the study area, and the corresponding loss and activation functions are selected based on the learning characteristics of the nonlinear mapping of the logging data and the BP neural network to ensure that overfitting occurs. The best model was obtained by using decision tree, support vector machine, shallow and deep neural networks to model the median rock grain size and predict neighboring wells, and a comparative analysis showed that for the problem of predicting the median rock grain size in low-permeability sandstone reservoirs, the deep neural network improved significantly over the shallow one and was much stronger than other machine learning methods. The best model obtained a coefficient of determination ( R 2 ) of 0.9831. Machine learning of median grain size from conventional logging data was systematically carried out through conventional logging sensitivity curve optimization, algorithm modeling, network parameter optimization, median grain size prediction, and validation, and the relative error in its quantitative prediction met application requirements. This method takes into account the nonlinear mapping relationship between the logging data and the fitting of small sample data and provides a systematic way of thinking for the logging curve to predict the grain size of low-permeability sandstone. This paper refers to a new resilient cyber-physical machine learning-based system that enables the generation of high-resolution tomographic images. The research object was a model of a tank filled with tap water. Using electrical impedance tomography (EIT) with 16 electrodes, the possibility of identifying inclusions inside the reservoir was investigated. A two-stage hybrid approach was proposed. In the first stage, three independent models were trained for the Elastic Net, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) methods. In the second stage, a k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) classification model was trained, that optimizes tomographic reconstructions by selecting the best method for each pixel, taking into account the specificity of a given measurement vector. Research has shown that applying the new concept results in a higher reconstruction quality than other methods used singly. It should be emphasized that our research is not intended to develop a new homogenous machine learning method. Instead, the goal is to invent an innovative, original, and flexible way to simultaneously use multiple machine learning methods for image optimization in industrial electrical impedance tomography. Research has proven that having high level of emotional intelligence (EI) can reduce the chance of getting mental illness. EI, and its component, can be improved with training, but currently the process is less flexible and very time-consuming. Machine learning (ML), on the other hand, can analyse huge amount of data to discover useful trends and patterns in shortest time possible. Despite the benefits, ML usage in EI training is scarce. In this paper, we studied 92 journal articles to discover the trend of the ML utilisation in the study of EI and its components. This survey aims to pave way for future studies that could lead to implementation of ML in EI training, and to rope in researchers in psychology and computer science to find possibilities of having a generic ML algorithm for every EI's components. Our findings show an increasing trend to apply ML on EI components, and Support Vector Machine and Neural Network are the two most popular ML algorithms used in those researches. We also found that social skill and empathy are the least exposed EI components to ML. Finally, we provide recommendations for future research direction of ML in EI domain, and EI in ML. Paralysis caused by physical trauma is a common disease today, with approximately 30% of paralysis caused by this trauma. The disease in question both physically restricts mobility and brings along psychological problems. Especially in advanced ages, paralysis becomes much more difficult and requires serious care since it causes many effects in elderly people's daily routines, required specific healthcare services, costs...etc. Therefore, in this study, it was aimed to design an Internet of Health Things (IoHT)-based unmanned robot vehicle for paralyzed patients, by using deep learning for control of the system and creating a connected healthcare synergy. In this context, the electronic part of the robot was designed first and then a deep learning-based model was created. Before creating the model, the data obtained from the sensors were adequately pre-processed, and the related problem formation was shaped for a Deep Learning process. In order to compare the Deep Learning model with other machine learning techniques from the state of the art, different models based on Random Forest (RF), Decision Trees (DT), Naive Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machines (SVM), k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN), Logistic Regression (LR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were generated using the same data. The performances of these models were compared and the obtained results were analyzed. According to the experimental results, the Deep Learning model has the highest performance with 99.5% success rate and 0.5% loss rate. This work presents some relevant results in which using deep learning techniques point excellent performances in the area of IoHT applications. A second contribution of this paper is related to the evaluation of the communication flow of the systems, to analyze if it was good enough to cover a smart environment. Sentiment analysis was nominated as a hot research topic a decade ago for its increasing importance in analyzing the people's opinions extracted from social media platforms. Although the Arabic language has a significant share of the content shared across social media platforms, its content's sentiment analysis is still limited due to its complex morphological structures and the varieties of dialects. Traditional machine learning and deep neural algorithms have been used in a variety of studies to predict sentiment analysis. Therefore, a need of changing current mechanisms is required to increase the accuracy of sentiment analysis prediction. This paper proposed an optimized heterogeneous stacking ensemble model for enhancing the performance of Arabic sentiment analysis. The proposed model combines three different of pre-trained Deep Learning (DL) models: Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) in conjunction with three meta-learners Logistic Regression (LR), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) in order to enhance model's performance for predicting Arabic sentiment analysis. The performance of the proposed model with RNN, LSTM, GRU, and the five regular ML techniques: Decision Tree (DT), LR, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), RF, and Naive Bayes (NB) are compared using three benchmarks Arabic dataset. Parameters of Machine Learning (ML) and DL are optimized using Grid search and KerasTuner, respectively. Accuracy, precision, recall, and f1-score were applied to evaluate the performance of the models and validate the results. Sign language is a natural language mostly used by persons with hearing- and speech-based impairments to communicate with other people. In these modern times, sign language guides are used to eliminate the communication gap between people having hearing impairments and those with or without hearing impairments; however, they are very limited in number. To solve this challenge, automatic sign language recognition systems are developed to better reduce the communication gap for people with hearing disabilities. This paper presents the development of an automatic Amharic sign language translator which translates Amharic alphabet signs into their corresponding text using digital image processing and machine learning algorithms. The proposed system has four major developmental stages which include preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. A total number of thirty-four features were extracted from shape, motion and color of hand gestures to represent both the base and derived class of Amharic sign characters. Classification models were built using artificial neural network (ANN) and multi-class support vector machine (SVM). The results show that the recognition system is capable of recognizing the Amharic alphabet signs with an average accuracy of 80.82% and 98.06% using the ANN and SVM classifiers, respectively. Breast cancer (BC) is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. It affects in general women older than 40 years old. Medical images analysis is one of the most promising research areas since it provides facilities for diagnosis and decision-making of several diseases such as BC. This paper conducts a Structured Literature Review (SLR) of the use of Machine Learning (ML) and Image Processing (IP) techniques to deal with BC imaging. A set of 530 papers published between 2000 and August 2019 were selected and analyzed according to ten criteria: year and publication channel, empirical type, research type, medical task, machine learning techniques, datasets used, validation methods, performance measures and image processing techniques which include image pre-processing, segmentation, feature extraction and feature selection. Results showed that diagnosis was the most used medical task and that Deep Learning techniques (DL) were largely used to perform classification. Furthermore, we found out that classification was the most ML objective investigated followed by prediction and clustering. Most of the selected studies used Mammograms as imaging modalities rather than Ultrasound or Magnetic Resonance Imaging with the use of public or private datasets with MIAS as the most frequently investigated public dataset. As for image processing techniques, the majority of the selected studies pre-process their input images by reducing the noise and normalizing the colors, and some of them use segmentation to extract the region of interest with the thresholding method. For feature extraction, we note that researchers extracted the relevant features using classical feature extraction techniques (e.g. Texture features, Shape features, etc.) or DL techniques (e. g. This paper offers several ways to classify time series data recorded by cyclists in an urban area like Copenhagen to predict and classify dangerous situations and areas. Therefore, several neural networks used a training dataset of bicycle trips consisting of position data and associated system modes derived from a Support Vector Machine. The system modes indicate if cyclists are in dangerous situations. The model used position data and derived features like velocity, acceleration, angular deviation, and the deviation of the previous cycling behaviour in the respective trip. A gated recurrent neural network model achieved the best resulting accuracy of 83 % in a binary classification between accident and no danger. Through this, it was possible to determine if a bicycle accident happened due to the cyclist's environment e.g., cobblestones, or due to their cycling behaviour. This way the dataset and the approved machine learning model can show municipality of cities which spots are currently posing a threat for cyclists. Furthermore, the developed algorithm can pose as a basis for a cyclist app that warns its user about dangerous driving behaviour or upcoming danger spots. Solutions in geotechnics have been optimizing with the aid of machine learning methods. The aim of this paper is to apply different machine learning algorithms in order to achieve rock mass classification. It is demonstrated that RMR classification system can be obtained using only variables which are closely related to rock mass quality, instead of all RMR variables, without missing significant accuracy. The different machine learning algorithms used are the naïve Bayes, random forest, artificial neural networks and support vector machines. The variables to calculate RMR, selected by factor analysis, are: rock strength, rock weathering, spacing, persistence and aperture of discontinuities and presence of water. The machine learning models were trained and tested thirty times, with random subsampling, using two-thirds of the total database for training sample. The models presented average accuracy greater than 0.81, which was calculated from the confusion matrix, using the proportion of true positives and true negatives in the test sample. Significant values of efficiency, precision and reproducibility rates were achieved. The study shows the application of machine learning algorithms allows obtaining the RMR classes, even with a small number of variables. In addition, the results of the evaluation metrics of the developed algorithms show that the methodology can be applied to new database, working as a valuable way to achieve rock mass classification. As the proportion of photovoltaic (PV) power generation rapidly increases, accurate PV output power prediction becomes more crucial to energy efficiency and renewable energy production. There are numerous approaches for PV output power prediction. Many researchers have previously summarized PV output power prediction from different angles. However, there are relatively few studies that use machine learning methods as a means to conduct a separate review of PV output power prediction. This review classifies machine learning methods from different perspectives and provides a systematic and critical review of machine learning methods for recent PV output power applications in terms of the temporal and spatial scales of prediction and finds that the artificial neural network and support vector machine are used much more frequently than other methods. In addition, this study examines the differences between the output power prediction of individual PV plants and regional PV stations and the benefits of regional PV plant prediction, while this paper presents some performance evaluation matrices commonly used for PV output power prediction. In addition, to further improve the accuracy of machine learning methods for PV output power prediction, some researchers suggest preprocessing the input data of the prediction models or considering hybrid machine learning methods.
