Skin cancer has a significant impact on the lives of many individuals annually and is recognized as the most prevalent type of cancer. In the United States, an estimated annual incidence of approximately 3.5 million people receiving a diagnosis of skin cancer underscores its widespread prevalence. Furthermore, the prognosis for individuals afflicted with advancing stages of skin cancer experiences a substantial decline in survival rates. This paper is dedicated to aiding healthcare experts in distinguishing between benign and malignant skin cancer cases by employing a range of machine learning and deep learning techniques and different feature extractors and feature selectors to enhance the evaluation metrics. In this paper, different transfer learning models are employed as feature extractors, and to enhance the evaluation metrics, a feature selection layer is designed, which includes diverse techniques such as Univariate, Mutual Information, ANOVA, PCA, XGB, Lasso, Random Forest, and Variance. Among transfer models, DenseNet-201 was selected as the primary feature extractor to identify features from data. Subsequently, the Lasso method was applied for feature selection, utilizing diverse machine learning approaches such as MLP, XGB, RF, and NB. To optimize accuracy and precision, ensemble methods were employed to identify and enhance the best-performing models. Increasing the integration of distributed generation (DG) into distribution networks provides many technological benefits, including improving system security, performance, and reliability. The intermittent nature of renewable DGs poses certain difficulties for this integration. Moreover, the large integration of DGs will lead to islanding conditions in the power system. In the islanded operation, the microgrid keeps power injection into the network. The islanding event can occur intentionally or unintentionally; the former is controllable and required for maintaining the main utility, whereas the latter is uncontrollable, caused by regular faults. However, islanding detection is important for ensuring the system's reliability and operation. Hence, a comprehensive review is made in this paper to examine different methods for islanding detection in the power system. Unlike the previous review papers, the proposed review paper focused on different types of islanding detection methods, including active, reactive, hybrid active–passive methods, deep learning and machine learning techniques. All of these methods have their advantage and disadvantages. Moreover, the complexities in power systems increased with the increasing penetration of DGs. Thus, the rapid islanding detection technique is necessary for improving the system's performance. This review has provided some recent literature for signal processing, which includes the recent feature selection and advance finding for islanding occurrences. From the comparative analysis, it is found that the Non-detection zone (NDZ) is more in the passive method is higher than in the active and hybrid active–passive methods. At the same time, the remote islanding detection methods are NDZ free, but it has computational complexities when compared with existing methods. Moreover, the DL based methods have higher computational time due to large training and testing data. It is found that hybrid methods are more feasible for providing accurate results in islanding detection. The term "Internet of Things" (IoT) encompasses an entire group of gadgets that are capable of connecting to the Internet in order to gather and share data. The IoT paradigm is being pushed into computer networks by numerous highly advanced intrusions. Cloud computing greatly enhances the success of the IoT by enabling users to perform computing tasks using Internet-based services accessed through connected devices. This seamless integration of cloud technology and the IoT has become a powerful catalyst, revolutionizing the way we operate. The adoption of a distributed architecture, such as cloud computing, exposes the system to potential threats like Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. To mitigate these risks, the concept of an intrusion detection system (IDS) has been introduced within the cloud environment. Various machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms have been proposed and implemented to effectively detect and respond to such malicious traffic in the cloud system. For dimension reduction during the training process of those algorithms, multiple independent and hybrid techniques have been proposed. This study presents an efficient ML-based real-time IDS framework with proposed hybrid feature selection techniques. Additionally, in this study, a concise comparative analysis has been conducted using five well-known public datasets. Accurate forecasting of PM2.5 concentrations serves as a critical tool for mitigating air pollution. This study introduces a novel hybrid prediction model, termed MIC-CEEMDAN-CNN-BiGRU, for short-term forecasting of PM2.5 concentrations using a 24-hour historical data window. Utilizing the Maximal Information Coefficient (MIC) for feature selection, the model integrates Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Bidirectional Recurrent Gated Neural Network (BiGRU) to optimize predictive accuracy. We used 2016 PM2.5 monitoring data from Beijing, China as the empirical basis of this study and compared the model with several deep learning frameworks. RNN, LSTM, GRU, and other hybrid models based on GRU, respectively. The experimental results show that the prediction results of the hybrid model proposed in this question are more accurate than those of other models, and the R2 of the hybrid model proposed in this paper improves the R2 by nearly 5 percentage points compared with that of the single model; reduces the MAE by nearly 5 percentage points; and reduces the RMSE by nearly 11 percentage points. The challenge of developing an Android malware detection framework that can identify malware in real-world apps is difficult for academicians and researchers. The vulnerability lies in the permission model of Android. Therefore, it has attracted the attention of various researchers to develop an Android malware detection model using permission or a set of permissions. Academicians and researchers have used all extracted features in previous studies, resulting in overburdening while creating malware detection models. But, the effectiveness of the machine learning model depends on the relevant features, which help in reducing the value of misclassification errors and have excellent discriminative power. A feature selection framework is proposed in this research paper that helps in selecting the relevant features. In the first stage of the proposed framework, t-test, and univariate logistic regression are implemented on our collected feature data set to classify their capacity for detecting malware. Multivariate linear regression stepwise forward selection and correlation analysis are implemented in the second stage to evaluate the correctness of the features selected in the first stage. Furthermore, the resulting features are used as input in the development of malware detection models using three ensemble methods and a neural network with six different machine-learning algorithms. The developed models' performance is compared using two performance parameters: F-measure and Accuracy. The experiment is performed by using half a million different Android apps. The empirical findings reveal that malware detection model developed using features selected by implementing proposed feature selection framework achieved higher detection rate as compared to the model developed using all extracted features data set. Further, when compared to previously developed frameworks or methodologies, the experimental results indicates that model developed in this study achieved an accuracy of 98.8%. Functional connectivity (FC) obtained from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging has been integrated with machine learning algorithms to deliver consistent and reliable brain disease classification outcomes. However, in classical learning procedures, custom-built specialized feature selection techniques are typically used to filter out uninformative features from FC patterns to generalize efficiently on the datasets. The ability of convolutional neural networks (CNN) and other deep learning models to extract informative features from data with grid structure (such as images) has led to the surge in popularity of these techniques. However, the designs of many existing CNN models still fail to exploit the relationships between entities of graph-structure data (such as networks). Therefore, graph convolution network (GCN) has been suggested as a means for uncovering the intricate structure of brain network data, which has the potential to substantially improve classification accuracy. Furthermore, overfitting in classifiers can be largely attributed to the limited number of available training samples. Recently, the generative adversarial network (GAN) has been widely used in the medical field for its generative aspect that can generate synthesis images to cope with the problems of data scarcity and patient privacy. In our previous work, GCN and GAN have been designed to investigate FC patterns to perform diagnosis tasks, and their effectiveness has been tested on the ABIDE-I dataset. In this paper, the models will be further applied to FC data derived from more public datasets (ADHD, ABIDE-II, and ADNI) and our in-house dataset (PTSD) to justify their generalization on all types of data. The results of a number of experiments show the powerful characteristic of GAN to mimic FC data to achieve high performance in disease prediction. When employing GAN for data augmentation, the diagnostic accuracy across ADHD-200, ABIDE-II, and ADNI datasets surpasses that of other machine learning models, including results achieved with BrainNetCNN. Specifically, in ADHD, the accuracy increased from 67.74% to 73.96% with GAN, in ABIDE-II from 70.36% to 77.40%, and in ADNI, reaching 52.84% and 88.56% for multiclass and binary classification, respectively. GCN also obtains decent results, with the best accuracy in ADHD datasets at 71.38% for multinomial and 75% for binary classification, respectively, and the second-best accuracy in the ABIDE-II dataset (72.28% and 75.16%, respectively). Both GAN and GCN achieved the highest accuracy for the PTSD dataset, reaching 97.76%. However, there are still some limitations that can be improved. Many science, technology and innovation (STI) resources are attached with several different labels. To assign automatically the resulting labels to an interested instance, many approaches with good performance on the benchmark datasets have been proposed for multilabel classification task in the literature. Furthermore, several open-source tools implementing these approaches have also been developed. However, the characteristics of real-world multilabel patent and publication datasets are not completely in line with those of benchmark ones. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to evaluate comprehensively seven multi-label classification methods on real-world datasets. Three real-world datasets (Biological-Sciences, Health-Sciences, and USPTO) from SciGraph and USPTO database are constructed. Seven multilabel classification methods with tuned parameters (dependency-LDA, MLkNN, LabelPowerset, RAkEL, TextCNN, TexRNN, and TextRCNN) are comprehensively compared on these three real-world datasets. To evaluate the performance, the study adopts three classification-based metrics: Macro-F1, Micro-F1, and Hamming Loss. The TextCNN and TextRCNN models show obvious superiority on small-scale datasets with more complex hierarchical structure of labels and more balanced documentlabel distribution in terms of macro-F1, micro-F1 and Hamming Loss. The MLkNN method works better on the larger-scale dataset with more unbalanced document-label distribution. Three real-world datasets differ in the following aspects: statement, data quality, and purposes. Additionally, open-source tools designed for multi-label classification also have intrinsic differences in their approaches for data processing and feature selection, which in turn impacts the performance of a multi-label classification approach. In the near future, we will enhance experimental precision and reinforce the validity of conclusions by employing more rigorous control over variables through introducing expanded parameter settings. The observed Macro F1 and Micro F1 scores on real-world datasets typically fall short of those achieved on benchmark datasets, underscoring the complexity of real-world multi-label classification tasks. Approaches leveraging deep learning techniques offer promising solutions by accommodating the hierarchical relationships and interdependencies among labels. With ongoing enhancements in deep learning algorithms and large-scale models, it is expected that the efficacy of multi-label classification tasks will be significantly improved, reaching a level of practical utility in the foreseeable future. Ransomware attacks have emerged as a significant threat to critical data and systems, extending beyond traditional computers to mobile and IoT/Cyber–Physical Systems. This study addresses the need to detect early ransomware behavior when only limited data are available. A major step for training such a detection model is choosing a set of relevant and non-redundant features, which is challenging when data are scarce. Therefore, this paper proposes an incremental mutual information-selection technique as a method for selecting the relevant features at the early stages of ransomware attacks. It introduces an adaptive feature-selection technique that processes data in smaller, manageable batches. This approach lessens the computational load and enhances the system's ability to quickly adapt to new data arrival, making it particularly suitable for ongoing attacks during the initial phases of the attack. The experimental results emphasize the importance of the proposed technique in estimating feature significance in limited data scenarios. Recent advances in knowledge graphs show great promise to link various data together to provide a semantic network. Place is an important part in the big picture of the knowledge graph since it serves as a powerful glue to link any data to its georeference. A key technical challenge in constructing knowledge graphs with location nodes as geographical references is the matching of place entities. Traditional methods typically rely on rule-based matching or machine-learning techniques to determine if two place names refer to the same location. However, these approaches are often limited in the feature selection of places for matching criteria, resulting in imbalanced consideration of spatial and semantic features. Deep feature-based methods such as deep learning methods show great promise for improved place data conflation. This paper introduces a Semantic-Spatial Aware Representation Learning Model (SSARLM) for Place Matching. SSARLM liberates the tedious manual feature extraction step inherent in traditional methods, enabling an end-to-end place entity matching pipeline. Furthermore, we introduce an embedding fusion module designed for the unified encoding of semantic and spatial information. In the experiment, we evaluate the approach to named places from Guangzhou and Shanghai cities in GeoNames, OpenStreetMap (OSM), and Baidu Map. The SSARLM is compared with several classical and commonly used binary classification machine learning models, and the state-of-the-art large language model, GPT-4. Named Entity Recognition (NER) is a natural language processing task that has been widely explored for different languages in the recent decade but is still an under-researched area for the Urdu language due to its rich morphology and language complexities. Existing state-of-the-art studies on Urdu NER use various deep-learning approaches through automatic feature selection using word embeddings. This paper presents a deep learning approach for Urdu NER that harnesses FastText and Floret word embeddings to capture the contextual information of words by considering the surrounding context of words for improved feature extraction. The pre-trained FastText and Floret word embeddings are publicly available for Urdu language which are utilized to generate feature vectors of four benchmark Urdu language datasets. These features are then used as input to train various combinations of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), CRF, and deep learning models. The results show that our proposed approach significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art studies on Urdu NER, achieving an F-score of up to 0.98 when using BiLSTM+GRU with Floret embeddings. Error analysis shows a low classification error rate ranging from 1.24% to 3.63% across various datasets showing the robustness of the proposed approach. Colorectal cancer (CRC) exhibits a significant death rate that consistently impacts human lives worldwide. Histopathological examination is the standard method for CRC diagnosis. However, it is complicated, time-consuming, and subjective. Computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems using digital pathology can help pathologists diagnose CRC faster and more accurately than manual histopathology examinations. Deep learning algorithms especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are advocated for diagnosis of CRC. Nevertheless, most previous CAD systems obtained features from one CNN, these features are of huge dimension. Also, they relied on spatial information only to achieve classification. In this paper, a CAD system is proposed called "Color-CADx" for CRC recognition. Different CNNs namely ResNet50, DenseNet201, and AlexNet are used for end-to-end classification at different training–testing ratios. Moreover, features are extracted from these CNNs and reduced using discrete cosine transform (DCT). DCT is also utilized to acquire spectral representation. Afterward, it is used to further select a reduced set of deep features. Furthermore, DCT coefficients obtained in the previous step are concatenated and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) feature selection approach is applied to choose significant features. Finally, machine learning classifiers are employed for CRC classification. Two publicly available datasets were investigated which are the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset and the Kather_texture_2016_image_tiles dataset. The highest achieved accuracy reached 99.3% for the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset and 96.8% for the Kather_texture_2016_image_tiles dataset. DCT and ANOVA have successfully lowered feature dimensionality thus reducing complexity. The accurate identification of bird image is of great significance to protecting the ecological environment and bird species diversity. To address the issue of low recognition accuracy arising from the similarities in features among different bird species and the susceptibility of shallow edge features to loss, this paper proposes a fine-grained bird image classification model that incorporates hierarchical feature fusion and counterfactual feature selection. The model is based on vision transformer and builds a hierarchical feature fusion module and a counterfactual feature enhancement module. The hierarchical feature fusion module superimposes shallow features rich in fine-grained information into deep features to improve the problem of lack of edge detail information in key features. The counterfactual feature enhancement module selects distinguishing features through counterfactual intervention to reduce classification errors caused by highly similar features of different species of birds. The experimental results show that the method can achieve 91.9 % and 91.4 % accuracy on two available datasets, CUB-200-2011 and NABirds, respectively, which is higher than the current mainstream fine-grained bird recognition algorithms and shows excellent classification performance. Background: Blood test is extensively performed for screening, diagnoses and surveillance purposes. Although it is possible to automatically evaluate the raw blood test data with the advanced deep self-supervised machine learning approaches, it has not been profoundly investigated and implemented yet. Results: This paper proposes deep machine learning algorithms with multi-dimensional adaptive feature elimination, self-feature weighting and novel feature selection approaches. To classify the health risks based on the processed data with the deep layers, four machine learning algorithms having various properties from being utterly model free to gradient driven are modified. Conclusions: The results show that the proposed deep machine learning algorithms can remove the unnecessary features, assign self-importance weights, selects their most informative ones and classify the health risks automatically from the worst-case low to worst-case high values. This paper proposes a method for forecasting surface solar irradiance (SSI), the most critical factor in solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation. The proposed method uses 16-channel data obtained by the GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) satellite of South Korea as the main data for SSI forecasting. To determine feature variables related to SSI from the 16-channel data, the differences and ratios between the channels were utilized. Additionally, to consider the fundamental characteristics of SSI originating from the sun, solar geometry parameters, such as solar declination (SD), solar elevation angle (SEA), and extraterrestrial solar radiation (ESR), were used. Deep learning-based feature selection (Deep-FS) was employed to select appropriate feature variables that affect SSI from various feature variables extracted from the 16-channel data. Lastly, spatio-temporal deep learning models, such as convolutional neural network–long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM) and CNN–gated recurrent unit (CNN-GRU), which can simultaneously reflect temporal and spatial characteristics, were used to forecast SSI. Predicting diseases in the early stages is extremely important. By taking advantage of advances in deep learning and fuzzy logic techniques, a new model is proposed in this paper for disease evaluation depending on the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) with a genetic algorithm (GA) for classification, and the pre-trained DenseNet-201 model for feature extraction, in addition to the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) for feature selection. Two medical databases (chest X-ray and MRI brain tumor) for the diagnosis of two disease types were used as input in the suggested model. The optimization of ANFIS parameters was performed by GA to achieve the optimum prediction capability. DenseNet-201 for feature extraction was employed to obtain better classification accuracy. Having more features sometimes leads to lower accuracy, and this issue can be rectified using a feature selection strategy WOA which gave good results. The proposed model was evaluated utilizing statistical metrics root mean square error (RMSE), mean square error (MSE), standard deviation (STD), and coefficient of determination ( R 2 ), and it was compared with the conventional ANFIS model, with the proposed model (ANFIS-GA) showing a superior prediction capability over the ANFIS model. As a result, it can be concluded that the proposed ANFIS-GA model is efficient and has the potential for a robust diseases evaluation with good accuracy. The management of diabetes involves much compliance, disease awareness, and patient empowerment. Blood glucose levels in people with diabetes are abnormal, resulting in various health problems that affect their kidneys, hearts, and vision. Monitoring the patient's health has the benefit of using the Internet of Things (IoT) and diabetes patient monitoring systems. Because this system uses machine learning to classify data, its value goes beyond patient monitoring. So, this paper proposes a novel deep learning model with an effective feature selection mechanism for diabetes mellitus (DM) prediction in IoT-based healthcare environment. The proposed work starts by collecting the real-time IoT data of the patients from the Pima Indian Diabetes database. The data imbalance problem of the collected dataset is rectified by applying the synthetic minority oversampling technique. Afterward, the balanced dataset is preprocessed by applying missing value imputation and data standardization to improve the classification performance. Then, the hybrid algorithm called k-means clustering-based sailfish optimization is utilized, which performs clustering and optimization to select the essential features from the preprocessed dataset. Finally, the selected features are fed into the kaiming and switan included bidirectional long short-term memory for DM prediction. In this paper the performance of different Machine Learning and Deep Learning approaches is evaluated in problems related to green mobility in big cities. Specifically, the forecasting of bike sharing demand in Madrid and Barcelona (Spain) is approached, for different prediction time-horizons, and also a problem of cable car demand forecasting in Madrid city. An important number of predictive variables are considered, which are grouped into four different sets (categorical/calendrical, persistence-based, meteorological and, as a novelty of the paper, information about analogue past instances), whose relevance is studied for all cases. A feature selection mechanism is also incorporated in order to improve the prediction accuracy of the proposed algorithms. A total of 12 different multivariate regression techniques are implemented, covering from Machine Learning methods to time-series Deep Learning approaches. Excellent results in all the prediction problems approached are reported. Finally, the consequences of obtaining accurate prediction in these three problem of green mobility in big cities are discussed. In addition, it is studied how the results could be exported to other similar cases in more general urban mobility studies. Novelties of the work include: (1) Addressing the forecast problem of passenger flow on a cable car using ML and DL multivariate techniques; (2) using the demand of analogous past instances as an additional feature to solve the demand prediction problems; and (3) the extraction of global conclusions about feature relevance when addressing a demand forecasting problem in green mobility. Multimodal medical data fusion has emerged as a transformative approach in smart healthcare, enabling a comprehensive understanding of patient health and personalized treatment plans. In this paper, a journey from data to information to knowledge to wisdom (DIKW) is explored through multimodal fusion for smart healthcare. We present a comprehensive review of multimodal medical data fusion focused on the integration of various data modalities. The review explores different approaches such as feature selection, rule-based systems, machine ;earning, deep learning, and natural language processing, for fusing and analyzing multimodal data. This paper also highlights the challenges associated with multimodal fusion in healthcare. By synthesizing the reviewed frameworks and theories, it proposes a generic framework for multimodal medical data fusion that aligns with the DIKW model. Moreover, it discusses future directions related to the four pillars of healthcare: Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, and Participatory approaches. The components of the comprehensive survey presented in this paper form the foundation for more successful implementation of multimodal fusion in smart healthcare. Accurate exchange rate forecasting is important for the better realization of international economic transactions and international currency investments. However, it is challenging to forecast exchange rates due to their high volatility, nonlinearity, and noisy characteristics. This paper creatively proposes a novel interpretable deep learning multi-dimensional integration framework for foreign exchange rate forecasting based on shallow and deep feature selection and snapshot ensemble technology. The main factors affecting exchange rates are considered at a deep and shallow level, and the feature selection project is implemented. A cluster-based multidimensional learning paradigm is proposed. The framework clusters data and constructs predictive sub-models and then embeds snapshot ensemble techniques into models to improve the robustness of single models. Finally, the results are nonlinearly integrated by a deep learning model. In addition, three datasets and twelve comparative models were used to demonstrate the performance of the models. Accurate solar irradiance forecasts can make solar power forecasts more reliable, which can help the power grid dispatch reasonably. In practice, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) is widely applied in solar irradiance forecasts. In this paper, the statistical NWP Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) error analysis shows that the characteristics of NWP GHI error vary obviously under different weather conditions. However, existing correction methods are not designed contrapuntally for different weather conditions, resulting in poor correction performance. To solve this problem, a hybrid method is proposed to get day-ahead correction results for NWP GHI. Specifically, the hybrid method consists of three key parts, including Deep Clustering (DC), Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD), and an Encoder–Decoder based Correction model (EDC). DC is used to categorize the historical samples into three clusters, the input of which is the multi-dimensional information series containing observed data and NWP data. After a feature selection by VMD, the correction models are trained on each cluster respectively. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated with a public dataset and an actual field dataset, and the results demonstrate that the accuracy has been effectively improved by the proposed method compared with other models. In today's digital age, the proliferation of network-connected devices has triggered a surge in cyberattacks. Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks pose a particularly formidable challenge to network security by disrupting access to vital services. While numerous researchers have proposed DDoS detection methods utilizing machine learning and deep learning techniques, developing a robust and reliable DDoS intrusion detection system remains challenging. This challenge is exacerbated by issues such as highly imbalanced data, multi-classification, and computational complexity. This paper proposes an innovative feature selection approach to create a robust intrusion detection system capable of detecting and classifying recent common DDoS attack types. We evaluate the performance of our model on the CICDDoS2019 benchmark dataset. Our experimental results demonstrate that our proposed model outperforms existing methods, achieving a detection accuracy of 96.82%, a recall of 96.82%, a precision of 96.76%, and an F1 score of 96.50%. Additionally, our model exhibits faster prediction times, with the ability to predict an attack in just 0.189 ms. Notably, our approach, combined with preprocessing and feature selection techniques, outperforms previous works and baseline models in DDoS attack classification. The quality of traffic services depends on the accuracy and completeness of the collected traffic data. However,the existing traffic data imputation methods usually only rely on the predefined road network structure to capture the spatio-temporal features and only consider the imputation effect from a single perspective, which are very limited for imputation of different missing patterns of road traffic data. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning framework called Hierarchical Spatio-temporal Graph Convolutional Neural Networks(HSTGCN) to impute traffic data,through the macro layer and the road layer. The model constructs macro graph of the road network based on the data temporal correlation clustering, which can mine the temporal dependencies of road traffic data from a hierarchical perspective. Besides, a temporal attention mechanism and adaptive adjacency matrix are introduced in the road layer to better extract the spatio-temporal information of the road traffic data. Finally, we use graph convolution neural networks to learn the spatio-temporal feature representations of the road layer and macro layer, which are then fused to achieve data imputation. To illustrate the efficient performance of the model, experiments are conducted on traffic data collected from California and Seattle. Conventional malware detection approaches have the overhead of feature extraction, the requirement of domain experts, and are time-consuming and resource-intensive. Learning-based approaches are the mainstay of malware detection as they overcome most of these challenges by significantly improving the detection effectiveness and providing a low false positive rate. The exponential growth of malware variants and first-time-appeared malware, which includes polymorphic and zero-day attacks, are some of the significant challenges to learning-based malware detectors. These challenges have catastrophic impacts on the detection effectiveness of these learning-based malware detectors. This paper proposes a novel deep learning-based framework to detect first-time-appeared malware effectively and efficiently by providing better performance than conventional malware detection approaches. First, it translates and visualises each Windows portable executable (PE) file into a coloured image to eliminate the overhead of feature extraction and the need for domain experts to analyse the features. In the subsequent step, a fine-tuned deep learning model is used to extract the deep features from the last fully connected layer. The step has reduced the cost of training required by the deep learning models if used for end-to-end classification. The third step selects the most important and influential features through a powerful feature selection algorithm. The most important features are then fed to a one-class classifier for final detection. With the one-class classifier, an enclosed boundary around the features of benign data is constructed. Anything outside the boundary is declared as an anomaly/malicious. It has enhanced the framework's ability to detect evolving, unseen, polymorphic, and zero-day attacks, as well as reducing the problem of overfitting. The detection effectiveness of the proposed framework is validated with state-of-the-art deep learning models and conventional approaches. The proposed framework has outperformed with an accuracy of 99.30% on the Malimg dataset. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test is used to validate the statistical significance of the proposed framework. It is evident from the results that the proposed framework is effective and can be used in the defence industry, resulting in more powerful and robust solutions against zero-day and polymorphic attacks. The rolling elements of the induction motor are highly susceptible to faults. The detection and diagnosis of rolling element faults are accurate and reliable only when the extracted features are accurate. The paper proposes an approach for bearing and rotor fault diagnosis using deep optimal feature extraction and selection based on vibration signal analysis. The deep feature extraction is done using an ensemble deep models features extraction approach in which features are extracted from seven pretrained models are fused serially using serial-based feature fusion technique. This leads to a solution for a higher efficacy model, but at the cost of high processing time as the feature data set gets large. A unique approach termed Ensemble Feature Selection has been developed to address this issue and limit the harmful impact of unwanted features in data-driven diagnostics. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has a network of interconnected medical devices to capture patients' health metrics and store them in a centralized server for analysis by medical experts. The security concerns in IoMT data are therefore very high. The attackers may inject malware into the IoMT data during its transmission. If the health parameters are affected by malware it may mislead the medical experts in making inferences about the patient's health. IoMT devices are resource-constrained and require faster analysis of data for better medical assistance. Most of the classification techniques used earlier suffer from exhaustive time and resource consumption. Hence, developing an intelligent framework that could reduce the data size and classify the malware quickly is essential. This paper proposes a deep learning framework called Auto-encoder to encode the IoMT data. The encoded features are then given to an XGBoost Classifier whose hyperparameters are optimized using the Genetic Algorithm. XGBoost Classifier detects the presence of malware in the IoMT dataset and Clamp dataset with an accuracy of 98.98% and 98.69% respectively. This lightweight model achieves dimensionality reduction through Autoencoder and effectively detects malware through an optimized XGBoost classifier with faster convergence and limited computational costs. Implementing this framework on the fog layer provides promising results by optimizing resource usage and saving time compared to previous works. Deep learning (DL) has made its way into many disciplines ranging from health care to self-driving cars. In financial markets, we see a rich literature for DL applications. Particularly, investors require robust algorithms that can navigate and make sense of extremely noisy and volatile markets. In this work, we use deep learning to select a portfolio of stocks and use a genetic algorithm to optimize the hyperparameters of DL. The work analyzes the improvement in using genetic-based hyperparameter optimization over grid searches. The Genetic Algorithm brings 40% improvements in prediction when compared to a random-grid search. Novelty-wise, the work couples a genetic-based hyperparameter optimization with multiple Deep RankNet models to predict the behavior of financial assets. Our results show promising portfolio returns 20% better than the general market. In the highly volatile COVID 19 period, the models exceed market returns by more than double. Overall, this paper brings a comprehensive work that integrates hyperparameter optimization, Deep RankNet, LSTM, period size variations, input variable transformation, feature selection, training/evaluation ratio analysis, and multiple portfolio selection strategies.
