Variable (feature) selection plays an important role in data analysis and mathematical modeling. This paper aims to address the significant lack of formal evaluation benchmarks for feature selection algorithms (FSAs). To evaluate FSAs effectively, controlled environments are required, and the use of synthetic datasets offers significant advantages. We introduce a set of ten synthetically generated datasets with known relevance, redundancy, and irrelevance of features, derived from various mathematical, logical, and geometric sources. Additionally, eight FSAs are evaluated on these datasets based on their relevance and novelty. The paper first introduces the datasets and then provides a comprehensive experimental analysis of the performance of the selected FSAs on these datasets including testing the FSAs' resilience on two types of induced data noise. The analysis has guided the grouping of the generated datasets into four groups of data complexity. Lastly, we provide public access to the generated datasets to facilitate bench-marking of new feature selection algorithms in the field via our Github repository. Load-capacity has always been one of the performances that is paid much attention to in the development of bevel gear transmission applications. Consequently, the mathematical model of novel bevel gear with high load-capacity based on geometric elements is proposed in this paper, which could be applied to the aviation, aerospace and other fields. In parallel, the design principle and design method of the novel bevel gear are introduced in detail. Subsequently, the conditions for tooth surface continuity and non-interference are derived. Furthermore, the model of novel bevel gear is established. Finally, the load-bearing characteristics are analyzed, revealing that an increase in the number of contact points could significantly enhance the load capacity of the bevel gear pairs. When the load torque applied to bevel gear II is 100 Nm, the contact pressure endured by the bevel gear pair with five-point contact is decreased by 41.37% compared to the bevel gear pair with single-point contact. When the number of contact points is the same, increasing the distance between the contact points could also reduce the contact stress. Fuzzy logic is becoming one of the most-influential fields of modern mathematics with applications that impact not only other sciences, but society in general. This newly found interest in fuzzy logic is in part due to the crucial role it plays in the development of artificial intelligence. As a result, new tools and practices for the development of the above-mentioned field are in high demand. This is one of the issues this paper was composed to address. To be more specific, a sizable part of fuzzy logic is the study of fuzzy connectives. However, the current method used to generalize them is restricted to the use of basic automorphisms, which hinders the creation of new fuzzy connectives. For this reason, in this paper, a new method of generalization is conceived of that aims to generalize the fuzzy connectives using polynomial automorphism functions instead. The creation of these automorphisms is achieved through numerical analysis, an endeavor that is supported with programming applications that, using mathematical modeling, validate and visualize the research. Furthermore, the automorphisms satisfy all the necessary criteria that have been established for use in the generalization process and, consequently, are used to successfully generalize fuzzy connectives. In this paper, we investigate mathematical models of meteorological forecasting based on the work of neural networks, which allow us to calculate presumptive meteorological parameters of the desired location on the basis of previous meteorological data. A new method of grouping neural networks to obtain a more accurate output result is proposed. An algorithm is presented, based on which the most accurate meteorological forecast was obtained based on the results of the study. This algorithm can be used in a wide range of situations, such as obtaining data for the operation of equipment in a given location and studying meteorological parameters of the location. To build this model, we used data obtained from personal weather stations of the Weather Underground company and the US National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD). Also, a Google remote learning machine was used to compare the results with existing products on the market. The algorithm for building the forecast model covered several locations across the US in order to compare its performance in different weather zones. This paper is devoted to the analysis of mathematical models of chemotherapy for malignant tumors growing according to the Gompertz law or the generalized logistic law. The influence of the therapeutic agent on the tumor dynamics is determined by a therapy function depending on the time-varying concentration of the drug in the patient's body. The case of a non-monotonic therapy function with two maxima is studied. It reflects the use of two different therapeutic agents. The state variables of the dynamics are the tumor volume and the amount of the therapeutic agent able to suppress malignant cells (concentration of the drug in the body). The treatment protocol (the rate of administration of the therapeutic agent) is the control in the dynamics. The optimal control problem for this models is considered. It is the problem of the construction of treatment protocols that provide the minimal tumor volume at the end of the treatment. The solution of this problem was obtained by the authors in previous works via the optimal control theory. The form of the considered therapy functions provides a specific structure for the optimal controls. The managerial insights of this structure are discussed. In this paper, the structure of the viability set is described for the model according to the generalized logistic law. It is the set of the initial states of the model for which one can find a treatment protocol that guarantees that the tumor volume remains within the prescribed limits throughout the treatment. The description of the viability set's structure is based on the optimal control theory and the theory of Hamilton–Jacobi equations. An inverse problem of therapy is also considered, namely the problem of reconstruction of the treatment protocol and identification of the unknown parameter of the intensity of the tumor growth. Reconstruction is carried out by processing information about the observations of the tumor volume dynamics and the measurements of the drug concentration in the body. This paper presents an analysis of the effectiveness of the element interaction model in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). An analysis of the mathematical model and its numerical solution for the system of boundary device interactions in the traditional configuration of roadside unit (RSU) placement using single- and dual-channel connection between on-board units (OBU) and RSU is given. In addition, the model efficiency is improved using a clustering approach. The efficiency evaluation is based on calculating the percentage of unprocessed requests generated by OBUs during their mobility, the average power consumption and the magnitude of the delay in transmitting and processing the generated requests in the OBU–RSU system. The traditional and cluster models are compared. The results obtained in this paper show that each of the proposed models can be effectively implemented in mobile nodes and will significantly reduce the overall expected query processing time to improve the organization and algorithmic support of VANET. Along with this, it is shown that the developed approach allows for efficient power consumption when combining RSUs into clusters with a shared cache. The novelty of solving the problems is due to the lack of a comprehensive model that allows the distribution and prediction of the parameters and resources of the system for different computational tasks, which is essential when implementing and using V2X technology to solve the problems of complex management of VANET elements. In this paper, we investigate two within-host mathematical models that are based on differential equations. These mathematical models include healthy cells, tachyzoites, and bradyzoites. The first model is based on ordinary differential equations and the second one includes a discrete time delay. We found the models' steady states and computed the basic reproduction number R 0 . Two equilibrium points exist in both models: the first is the disease-free equilibrium point and the second one is the endemic equilibrium point. We found that the initial quantity of uninfected cells has an impact on the basic reproduction number R 0 . This threshold parameter also depends on the contact rate between tachyzoites and uninfected cells, the contact rate between encysted bradyzoite and the uninfected cells, the conversion rate from tachyzoites to bradyzoites, and the death rate of the bradyzoites- and tachyzoites-infected cells. We investigated the local and global stability of the two equilibrium points for the within-host models that are based on differential equations. We perform numerical simulations to validate our analytical findings. We also demonstrated that the disease-free equilibrium point cannot lose stability regardless of the value of the time delay. The article considered the three types of description of the material behavior model: elastic, elastic–plastic, and viscoelastic. The problem is considered in the framework of deformable solid mechanics. The paper considers the possibility of describing modern polymeric and composite materials used as antifriction sliding layers in the viscoelasticity framework. A numerical procedure for finding the coefficients to describe the viscoelastic material behavior using the Prony model has been implemented. Numerical results and experimental data are compared. The model problem of spherical indenter penetration into polymer half-space is realized. The influence of the system discretization on the numerical solution is analyzed. In this paper, we take physical and health integration as the entry point. Firstly, based on the transformation mechanism of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis we construct a time delay differential model. Moreover, using the theory of characteristic equation we discuss the stability of a positive equilibrium under the delays of τ = 0 and τ ≠ 0 . Furthermore, through numerical simulation, it has been verified the delay, τ , exceeds a critical value, the positive equilibrium loses its stability and Hopf bifurcation occurs. Transformer-less connection schemes can provide a feasible solution for lowering the economic cost, occupied space, and device weight of modular multilevel converter (MMC) systems. However, due to the reduction in the converter transformer, the current flow loop is changed; as a result, the existing MMC model is not suitable. In this paper, the ac- and dc-side equivalent circuit models of the MMC system using a transformer-less connection scheme are established in both a–b–c stationary and d–q rotating coordinate systems. Then, a highly accurate mathematical analysis model is proposed, in which the interactions among the electrical quantities can be fully seen. The mathematical model is established in the time domain, and hence the amplitude and phase angle of every harmonic component in each quantity can be directly obtained. The proposed model is verified under various typical situations by comparing the calculated values with the actual waveforms. The comparison results prove that the calculation error is small enough to be negligible. The mathematical model in this paper can provide a powerful tool in terms of the performance analysis and the main circuit parameter design for MMCs in transformer-less applications. In this paper, we carry out a study developed on 13,677 images from 15 patients affected by moderate/severe atheromatous disease of the abdominal aortic tract. A procedure to extract the pervious lumen of the aorta artery from basal CT images is exploited and tested on a large scale. In particular, the above method takes advantage of the reconstruction and enhancing properties of the sampling Kantorovich algorithm which allows the information content of images to be increased. The processed image is compared, slice by slice, by superposition, with the corresponding contrast medium reference image. Numerical indices of errors were computed and analyzed in order to test the validity of the proposed method. The results achieved confirm, both from the numerical and clinical point of view, the good performance and accuracy of the proposed method, opening the possibility to perform an assisted diagnosis avoiding the injection of the contrast medium. The generation of mathematical models for the analysis of buildings with multiple thermal zones is a large and complex task. Furthermore, the order and complexity of the dynamical model are increased by the number of included thermal zones. To overcome this problem, this paper presents an algorithm to define the mathematical model automatically, using the geometric and physics parameters as inputs. Additionally, the spatial position of each thermal zone must be recorded in an arrangement called a contact matrix. The algorithm for modeling systems with multiple thermal zones is the main contribution of this work. This algorithm is presented in pseudocode format and as an annex, an implementation in MATLAB software. One of the advantages of this methodology is that it allows us to work with parallelepipeds and not necessarily cubic thermal zones. The algorithm allows us to generate mathematical models with symbolic variables, starting from the knowledge of how many thermal zones compose the system and its geometric organization. This information must be organized in a matrix arrangement called a contact matrix. Different arrays of thermal zones were constructed with wooden boxes to verify the functionality of the models generated with the algorithm. Each case provided information that allowed us to adjust the mathematical models and their simulations, obtaining a range of errors between experimental and simulated temperatures from 2.08 to 5.6 , depending on the number of thermal zones studied. This article deals with the random sequential adsorption (RSA) of 2D disks of the same size on fractal surfaces with a Hausdorff dimension 1 < d < 2. According to the literature and confirmed by numerical simulations in the paper, the high coverage regime exhibits fractional dynamics, i.e., dynamics in t1/d where d is the fractal dimension of the surface. The paper presents an approach to the simultaneous use of SDCM and EGNOS corrections for two GNSS receivers placed at a constant distance. The SDCM and EGNOS corrections were applied for two GPS code measurements on L1 frequency: C1C and C1W. The approach is based mainly on the constrained least squares adjustment, but for the horizontal and vertical coordinates, the Kalman Filter was applied in order to reduce pseudo-range noises. It allows for obtaining a higher autonomous accuracy of GPS/(SDCM+EGNOS) positioning than when using only the GPS/EGNOS or GPS/SDCM system. The final dual-redundant solution, in which two SBAS systems were used (EGNOS+SDCM) and two GPS pseudo-ranges (C1C+C1W) were present, yielded RMS errors of 0.11 m for the horizontal coordinates and 0.25 m for the vertical coordinates. Moreover, the accuracy analysis in the developed mathematical model for the determined 3D coordinates with simultaneous use of EGNOS and SDCM systems proved to be much more reliable than using only a single EGNOS or SDCM system. The presented approach can be used not only for precise navigation, but also for some geoscience applications and remote sensing where the reliable accuracy of autonomous GPS positioning is required. Some researchers believe fractional differential operators should not have a non-singular kernel, while others strongly believe that due to the complexity of nature, fractional differential operators can have either singular or non-singular kernels. This contradiction in thoughts has led to the publication of a few papers that are against differential operators with non-singular kernels, causing some negative impacts. Thus, publishers and some Editors-in-Chief are concerned about the future of fractional calculus, which has generally brought confusion among the vibrant and innovative young researchers who desire to apply fractional calculus within their respective fields. Thus, the present work aims to develop a model based on a stochastic process that could be utilized to portray the effect of arbitrary-order derivatives. A nonlinear perturbation is used to study the proposed stochastic model with the help of white noises. The required condition(s) for the existence of an ergodic stationary distribution is obtained via Lyapunov functional theory. The finding of the study indicated that the proposed noises have a remarkable impact on the dynamics of the system. To reduce the spread of a disease, we imposed some control measures on the stochastic model, and the optimal system was achieved. In the present paper, a Quality Systems Theory is presented. Certifiable Quality Systems are treated and interpreted in accordance with a Thermodynamics-based approach. Analysis is also conducted on the relationship between Quality Management Systems (QMSs) and systems theories. A measure of entropy is proposed for QMSs, including a virtual document entropy and an entropy linked to processes and organisation. QMSs are also interpreted in light of Cybernetics, and interrelations between Information Theory and quality are also highlighted. A measure for the information content of quality documents is proposed. Such parameters can be used as adequacy indices for QMSs. From the discussed approach, suggestions for organising QMSs are also derived. Further interpretive thermodynamic-based criteria for QMSs are also proposed. The periodical transient impulses caused by localized faults are sensitive and important characteristic information for rotating machinery fault diagnosis. However, it is very difficult to accurately extract transient impulses at the incipient fault stage because the fault impulse features are rather weak and always corrupted by heavy background noise. In this paper, a new transient impulse extraction methodology is proposed based on impulse-step dictionary and re-weighted minimizing nonconvex penalty Lq regular (R-WMNPLq, q = 0.5) for the incipient fault diagnosis of rolling bearings. Prior to the sparse representation, the original vibration signal is preprocessed by the variational mode decomposition (VMD) technique. Due to the physical mechanism of periodic double impacts, including step-like and impulse-like impacts, an impulse-step impact dictionary atom could be designed to match the natural waveform structure of vibration signals. On the other hand, the traditional sparse reconstruction approaches such as orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP), L1-norm regularization treat all vibration signal values equally and thus ignore the fact that the vibration peak value may have more useful information about periodical transient impulses and should be preserved at a larger weight value. Therefore, penalty and smoothing parameters are introduced on the reconstructed model to guarantee the reasonable distribution consistence of peak vibration values. Lastly, the proposed technique is applied to accelerated lifetime testing of rolling bearings, where it achieves a more noticeable and higher diagnostic accuracy compared with OMP, L1-norm regularization and traditional spectral Kurtogram (SK) method. This paper presents a theoretical investigation of a combined Power and Cooling Cycle that employs an Ammonia-Water mixture. The cycle combines a Rankine and an absorption refrigeration cycle. The Goswami cycle can be used in a wide range of applications including recovering waste heat as a bottoming cycle or generating power from non-conventional sources like solar radiation or geothermal energy. A thermodynamic study of power and cooling co-generation is presented for heat source temperatures between 100 to 350 °C. A comprehensive analysis of the effect of several operation and configuration parameters, including the number of turbine stages and different superheating configurations, on the power output and the thermal and exergy efficiencies was conducted. Results showed the Goswami cycle can operate at an effective exergy efficiency of 60-80% with thermal efficiencies between 25 to 31%. The investigation also showed that multiple stage turbines had a better performance than single stage turbines when heat source temperatures remain above 200 °C in terms of power, thermal and exergy efficiencies. However, the effect of turbine stages is almost the same when heat source temperatures were below 175 °C. For multiple turbine stages, the use of partial superheating with Single or Double Reheat stream showed a better performance in terms of efficiency. One main interest of information geometry is to study the properties of statistical models that do not depend on the coordinate systems or model parametrization; thus, it may serve as an analytic tool for intrinsic inference in statistics. In this paper, under the framework of Riemannian geometry and dual geometry, we revisit two commonly-used intrinsic losses which are respectively given by the squared Rao distance and the symmetrized Kullback-Leibler divergence (or Jeffreys divergence). For an exponential family endowed with the Fisher metric and α-connections, the two loss functions are uniformly described as the energy difference along an α-geodesic path, for some α ϵ {-1, 0, 1}. Subsequently, the two intrinsic losses are utilized to develop Bayesian analyses of covariance matrix estimation and range-spread target detection. We provide an intrinsically unbiased covariance estimator, which is verified to be asymptotically efficient in terms of the intrinsic mean square error. The decision rules deduced by the intrinsic Bayesian criterion provide a geometrical justification for the constant false alarm rate detector based on generalized likelihood ratio principle. In this paper, we considered a mathematical model concerned with the treatment of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) taking into account the effect of superficially infused T cells in this particular type of tumor. The model is described thoroughly by the system of non-linear differential equations explaining the interaction of naïve, infected, cancer and immune cell population. The detailed sensitivity analysis with the application is the major part of this paper. The basic objective is to provide insight to how parameters' behavior varies model results by elaborating the results obtained from the application of sensitivity analysis. The sensitivity of the model was evaluated not only theoretically, but also with the help of a numerical approach, producing graphs providing better imminent of results. We argue that the application of the sensitivity analysis method endows an insight into how and which parameters are of primary significance in controlling the spread of leukemia. This paper studies the global stability analysis of a mathematical model on Babesiosis transmission dynamics on bovines and ticks populations as proposed by Dang et al. First, the global stability analysis of disease-free equilibrium (DFE) is presented. Furthermore, using the properties of Volterra–Lyapunov matrices, we show that it is possible to prove the global stability of the endemic equilibrium. The property of symmetry in the structure of Volterra–Lyapunov matrices plays an important role in achieving this goal. Furthermore, numerical simulations are used to verify the result presented. In this paper we propose a mathematical model for the fuel consumption analysis during aircraft cruise. A closed-form formula that expresses the aircraft's weight variation over time, and hence, the fuel flow rate, is obtained as a result. Furthermore, a closed-form expression of the aircraft's main performance parameters is also obtained. We compare the values of such parameters computed by using the Piano-X software and computed by using our mathematical model. Simulation results confirm that our mathematical model provides results very close to reality. Finally, the closed-form formula of the fuel flow rate provided by our model is used to improve the calculation of the carbon dioxide emissions for four example routes, which, unlike here, are usually obtained under the assumption of a constant value of the fuel flow rate. Chuck holders are widely used for jobs with high precision. A chuck holder consists of a nut with a tapered surface and a thin-slotted clamping sleeve typically made of hardened steel and named a collet. Chuck holders are, essentially, wedge mechanisms. In this paper, we investigated the reactions and strains due to the forces during the chip removal process in the contact elements or jaws of the collet by means of mathematical analysis. Deflections in the jaws of the collet arise with a high influence from the precision of the workpieces. The cutting or process forces cause an axial force, a radial force, a torsional moment, and a bending moment on the chuck collet, and, consequently, displacements and inclinations of the clamping system are caused. Therefore, the proposed analytical models are based on elasticity and contact theories. The mathematical model for determining the deflections of the clamping system force was developed and implemented using MATLAB. The results showed that the variation in the clamping force during rotation in a collet chuck holder mainly depends on the stiffness of the collet chuck holder and the stiffness of the workpiece. The results indicated that the collet should be vulcanized to minimize the deformations that affect the final product. The global stability analysis for the mathematical model of an infectious disease is discussed here. The endemic equilibrium is shown to be globally stable by using a modification of the Volterra–Lyapunov matrix method. The basis of the method is the combination of Lyapunov functions and the Volterra–Lyapunov matrices. By reducing the dimensions of the matrices and under some conditions, we can easily show the global stability of the endemic equilibrium. To prove the stability based on Volterra–Lyapunov matrices, we use matrices with the symmetry properties (symmetric positive definite). The results developed in this paper can be applied in more complex systems with nonlinear incidence rates. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the analytical results. Electrocardiogram signal analysis is based on detecting a fiducial point consisting of the onset, offset, and peak of each waveform. The accurate diagnosis of arrhythmias depends on the accuracy of fiducial point detection. Detecting the onset and offset fiducial points is ambiguous because the feature values are similar to those of the surrounding sample. To improve the accuracy of this paper's fiducial point detection, the signal is represented by a small number of vertices through a curvature-based vertex selection technique using polygonal approximation. The proposed method minimizes the number of candidate samples for fiducial point detection and emphasizes these sample's feature values to enable reliable detection. It is also sensitive to the morphological changes of various QRS complexes by generating an accumulated signal of the amplitude change rate between vertices as an auxiliary signal. To verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm, error distribution is measured through comparison with the QT-DB annotation provided by Physionet. The mean and standard deviation of the onset and the offset were stable as − 4.02 ± 7.99 ms and − 5.45 ± 8.04 ms, respectively. The results show that proposed method using small number of vertices is acceptable in practical applications. We also confirmed that the proposed method is effective through the clustering of the QRS complex. Uncertainty commonly exists in the wireless power transfer (WPT) systems for moving objects. To enhance the robustness of the WPT system to uncertain parameter variations, a modified WPT system structure and an interval-based uncertain optimization method are proposed in this paper. The modified WPT system, which includes two Q-type impedance matching networks, can switch between two different operating modes. The interval-based uncertain optimization method is used to improve the robustness of the modified WPT system: First, two interval-based objective functions (mean function and variance function) are defined to evaluate the average performance and the robustness of the system. A double-objective uncertain optimization model for the modified WPT system is built. Second, a bi-level nested optimization algorithm is proposed to find the Pareto optimal solutions of the proposed optimization model. The Pareto fronts are provided to illustrate the tradeoff between the two objectives, and the robust solutions are obtained. Experiments were carried out to verify the theoretical method. The results demonstrated that using the proposed method, the modified WPT system can achieve good robustness when the coupling coefficient, the operating frequency, the load resistance or the load reactance varies over a wide range.
