Diabetic retinopathy(DR) is a health condition that affects the retinal blood vessels(BV) and arises in over half of people living with diabetes. Exudates(EX) are significant indications of DR. Early detection and treatment can prevent vision loss in many cases. EX detection is a challenging problem for ophthalmologists due to its different sizes and elevations as retinal fundus images frequently have irregular illumination and are poorly contrasting. Manual detection of EX is a time-consuming process to diagnose a mass number of diabetic patients. In the domain of signal processing, both SIFT (scale-invariant feature transform) and SURF (speed-up robust feature) methods are predominant in scale-invariant location retrieval and have shown a range of advantages. But, when extended to medical images with corresponding weak contrast between reference features and neighboring areas, these methods cannot differentiate significant features. Considering these, in this paper, a novel method is proposed based on modified KAZE features, which is an emerging technique to extract feature points and extreme learning machine autoencoders(ELMAE) for robust and fast localization of the EX in fundus images. The main stages of the proposed method are pre-processing, OD localization, dimensionality reduction using ELMAE, and EX localization. The proposed method is evaluated based on the freely accessible retinal database DIARETDB0, DIARETDB1, e-Ophtha, MESSIDOR, and local retinal database collected from Silchar Medical College and Hospital(SMCH). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy obtained by the proposed method are 96.5%, 96.4%, and 97%, respectively, with the processing time of 3.19 seconds per image. The results of this study are satisfactory with state-of-the-art methods. The results indicate that the approach taken can detect EX with less processing time and accurately from the fundus images. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is an eye disease, which affects the people who are all having the diabetes for more than 10 years. The ophthalmologist identifies when the dilated eye exam causes severe in any one of the following deviations in the retina: changes in blood vessels, leaking blood vessels, newly grown blood vessels, swelling of the macula, changes in the lens, and damages to the nerve tissue. It can eventually lead to vision loss. The early detection of DR prevents the cause of blindness. In this paper, we propose the retinal image segmentation and extraction of blood vessels by morphological processing, thresholding, edge detection, and adaptive histogram equalization. For the automatic diagnosis of DR from the fundus image, we also developed a network with the convolutional neural network architecture for accurately classifying its severity. By using high-end graphical processor unit (GPU), we trained this network on the publicly available dataset such as DRIVE, DIARETDB0, and DIARETDB1_v1, and the images collected from the Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, India. Typically, the acquired renal ultrasound image includes a course of speckle noises. This paper primarily investigates an approach for the detection of renal calculi by processing those raw US images with the help of a meta-heuristic SVM classifier. One of the major downsides of involving Ultrasound images in medical analysis is the prevalence of Speckle Noises. An Adaptive Mean Median Filter approach has been introduced in the work to get rid of the speckle noises to the maximum extent ever in the literature. Segmentation is performed by employing conventional K-Means and GLCM features were extracted for classification using a meta-heuristic SVM classifier. The proposed methodology investigates with a Real-time Acquired Dataset of Mithra Scans, Tamilnadu, India comprises of 250 clinical Ultra-Sound Kidney Images of which 150 are having Calculi and the rest are Healthy. With the experimental results, the proposed meta-heuristic SVM classifier have performed better in noisy images while comparing with other conventional methods considered in the literature. It exhibits an Accuracy of 98.8% with a FAR rate of 1.8 for FRR as high as 3.3. The results clearly proposed that the novel AMM-PSO-SVM could be a promising technique for object or foreign body detection in a medical imaging application that uses ultrasound imaging. Cancer statistics in 2020 reveals that breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in India. One in 28 women is likely to develop breast cancer during their lifetime. The mortality rate is 1.6 to 1.7 times higher than maternal mortality rates. According to the US statistics, about 42,170 women in the US are expected to die in 2020 from breast cancer. The chance of survival can be increased through early and accurate diagnosis of cancer. The pathologists manually analyze the histopathology images using high-resolution microscopes to detect the mitotic cells. This is a time-consuming process because there is a minute difference between the normal and mitotic cells. To overcome these challenges, an automatic analysis and detection of breast cancer by using histopathology images play a vital role in prognosis. Earlier researchers used conventional image processing techniques for the detection of mitotic cells. These methods were found to be producing results with low accuracy and time-consuming. Therefore, several deep learning techniques were adopted by researchers to increase the accuracy and minimize the time. The hybrid deep learning model is proposed for selecting abstract features from the histopathology images. In the proposed approach, we have concatenated two different CNN architectures into a single model for effective classification of mitotic cells. Convolution neural network (CNN) automatically detects efficient features without human intervention and classifies cancerous and non-cancerous images using a hybrid fully connected network. It is a computationally efficient, very powerful, and efficient model for performing automatic feature extraction. It detects different phenotypic signatures of nuclei. In order to enhance the accuracy and computational efficiency, the histopathology images are preprocessed, segmented, and feature extracted through CNN and fed into a hybrid CNN for classification. The hybrid CNN is obtained by concatenating two CNN models; together, this is called model leveraging. Model averaging can be improved by weighting the contributions of each sub-model to the combined prediction by the expected performance of the sub-model. The proposed hybrid CNN architecture with data preprocessing with median filter and Otsu-based segmentation technique is trained using 50,000 images and tested using 50,000 images. In recent years, Brain tumor detection and segmentation has created an interest on research areas. The process of identifying and segmenting brain tumor is a very tedious and time consuming task, since human physique has anatomical structure naturally. Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) scan analysis is a powerful tool that makes effective detection of the abnormal tissues from the brain. Among different techniques, Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) is a liable one which contains several modalities in scanning the images captured from interior structure of human brain. A novel hybrid energy-efficient method is proposed for automatic tumor detection and segmentation. The proposed system follows K-means clustering, integrated with Fuzzy C-Means (KMFCM) and active contour by level set for tumor segmentation. An effective segmentation, edge detection and intensity enhancement can detect brain tumor easily. For that, active contour with level set method has been utilized. The performance of the proposed approach has been evaluated in terms of white pixels, black pixels, tumor detected area, and the processing time. This technique can deal with a higher number of segmentation problem and minimum execution time by ensuring segmentation quality. Additionally, tumor area length in vertical and horizontal positions is determined to measure sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and similarity index values. Further, tumor volume is computed. Knowledge of the information of tumor is helpful for the physicians for effective diagnosing in tumor for treatments. Peripheral blood smear analysis is a gold-standard method used in laboratories to diagnose many hematological disorders. Leukocyte analysis helps in monitoring and identifying health status of a person. Segmentation is an important step in the process of automation of analysis which would reduce the burden on hematologists and make the process simpler. The segmentation of leukocytes is a challenging task due to variations in appearance of cells across the slide. In the proposed study, an automated method to detect nuclei and to extract leukocytes from peripheral blood smear images with color and illumination variations is presented. Arithmetic and morphological operations are used for nuclei detection and active contours method is for leukocyte detection. The results demonstrate that the proposed method detects nuclei and leukocytes with Dice score of 0.97 and 0.96 respectively. The overall sensitivity of the method is around 96%. The role of compression is vital in telemedicine for the storage and transmission of medical images. This work is based on Contextual Vector Quantization (CVQ) compression algorithm with codebook optimization by Simulated Annealing (SA) for the compression of CT images. The region of interest (foreground) and background are separated initially by region growing algorithm. The region of interest is encoded with low compression ratio and high bit rate; the background region is encoded with high compression ratio and low bit rate. The codebook generated from foreground and background is merged, optimized by simulated annealing algorithm. The performance of CVQ-SA algorithm was validated in terms of metrics like Peak to Signal Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Square Error (MSE) and Compression Ratio (CR), the result was superior when compared with classical VQ, CVQ, JPEG lossless and JPEG lossy algorithms. The algorithms are developed in Matlab 2010a and tested on real-time abdomen CT datasets. The quality of reconstructed image was also validated by metrics like Structural Content (SC), Normalized Absolute Error (NAE), Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC) and statistical analysis was performed by Mann Whitney U Test.
