Acetaldehyde (AL), a primary carcinogen, not only pollutes the environment, but also endangers human health after drinking alcohol. Here a promising bacterial strain was successfully isolated from a white wine cellar pool in the province of Shandong, China, and identified as Bacillus velezensis-YW01 with 16 S rDNA sequence. Using AL as sole carbon source, initial AL of 1 g/L could be completely biodegraded by YW01 within 84 h and the cell-free extracts of YW01 has also been detected to biodegrade the AL, which indicate that YW01 is a high-potential strain for the biodegradation of AL. The optimal culture conditions and the biodegradation of AL of YW01 are at pH 7.0 and 38 °C, respectively. To further analyze the biodegradation mechanism of AL, the whole genome of YW01 was sequenced. Genes ORF1040, ORF1814 and ORF0127 were revealed in KEGG, which encode for acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. Furthermore, ORF0881 and ORF052 encode for ethanol dehydrogenase. This work provides valuable information for exploring metabolic pathway of converting ethanol to AL and subsequently converting AL to carboxylic acid compounds, which opened up potential pathways for the development of microbial catalyst against AL. Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies play an essential role in achieving Net Zero Emissions targets. Considering the lack of timely reviews on the recent advancements in promising CCUS technologies, it is crucial to provide a prompt review of the CCUS advances to understand the current research gaps pertained to its industrial application. To that end, this review first summarized the developmental history of CCUS technologies and the current large-scale demonstrations. Then, based on a visually bibliometric analysis, the carbon capture remains a hotspot in the CCUS development. Noting that the materials applied in the carbon capture process determines its performance. As a result, the state-of-the-art carbon capture materials and emerging capture technologies were comprehensively summarized and discussed. Gaps between state-of-art carbon capture process and its ideal counterpart are analyzed, and insights into the research needs such as material design, process optimization, environmental impact, and technical and economic assessments are provided. Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common acute abdominal disorders; due to the lack of specific treatment, the treatment of acute pancreatitis, especially serious acute pancreatitis (SAP), is difficult and challenging. We will observe the changes of Interleukin -22 levels in acute pancreatitis animal models, and explore the mechanism of Interleukin -22 in acute pancreatitis. Objective: This study aims to assess the potential protective effect of Interleukin -22 on caerulein-induced acute pancreatitis and to explore its mechanism. Methods: Blood levels of amylase and lipase and Interleukin -22 were assessed in mice with acute pancreatitis. In animal model and cell model of caerulein-induced acute pancreatitis, the mRNA levels of P62 and Beclin-1 were determined using PCR, and the protein expression of P62, LC3-II, mTOR, AKT, p-mTOR, and p-AKT were evaluated through Western blot analysis. Results: Interleukin -22 administration reduced blood amylase and lipase levels and mitigated tissue damage in acute pancreatitis mice model. Interleukin -22 inhibited the relative mRNA levels of P62 and Beclin-1, and the Interleukin -22 group showed a decreased protein expression of LC3-II and P62 and the phosphorylation of the AKT/mTOR pathway. Furthermore, we obtained similar results in the cell model of acute pancreatitis. Conclusion: This study suggests that Interleukin -22 administration could alleviate pancreatic damage in caerulein-induced acute pancreatitis. Efforts to curtail the escalating health threat posed by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a formidable superbug, necessitate the development of innovative treatment strategies. Leveraging potential compounds from natural sources in tandem with antibiotics has emerged as a promising approach against MRSA. These strategies should enhance the antibiotic efficacy, reduce dosage and toxicity, and bypass MRSA resistance. In this study, we used a checkerboard assay to illustrate the significant synergistic anti-MRSA effect of shikimic acid (SA), a naturally occurring compound, and ceftiofur (CF). Time-kill curves further revealed that a combination of 1/4 of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of SA and 1/8 MIC of the sodium CF eradicated MRSA within 2 h, with no noticeable toxicity observed with these concentrations. In vivo experiments confirmed that this combination therapy demonstrated robust antimicrobial activity against MRSA-induced bacteremia in mice, significantly reducing bacterial loads in the kidneys, liver, and spleen, attenuating inflammatory cell infiltration, and alleviating pathological damage. This study not only offers a compelling strategy, capitalizing on the synergistic potential of SA and CF, to rapidly address antibiotic resistance but also contributes significantly to the refinement of antimicrobial therapeutic strategies. Previous studies have demonstrated the rejuvenating and restorative actions of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in multiple diseases, but their role in reversing chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is not well understood owing to their low efficiency in homing to the stomach. In this work, we investigated the therapeutic effect of umbilical cord-derived MSCs (UC-MSCs) on CAG by endoscopic submucosal injection and preliminarily explored possible mechanisms in vitro. MSCs and normal saline (NS) were injected into the submucosa of the stomach in randomly grouped CAG rabbits. Therapeutic effects on serum indices and histopathology of the gastric mucosa were analyzed in vivo at 30 and 60 days after MSCs injection. GES-1 cells were co-cultured with MSCs in vitro using a Transwell system and cell viability, proliferation, and migration ability were detected. Additionally, in view of the potential mechanisms, the relative protein expression levels of apoptosis, autophagy and inflammation in vitro were explored by Western Blotting. We found that submucosal injection of MSCs up-regulated serum indices (G-17, PGI and PGI/PGII) and alleviated histopathological damage to the gastric mucosa in CAG rabbits. Co-culture of GES-1 cells with MSCs improved cell viability, proliferation, and migration ability, while suppressing apoptosis. We also observed a reduction in the expression of apoptosis indicators, including Bax and cleaved caspase-3, in GES-1 cells after co-culture with MSCs in vitro. Bladder cancer is a type of commonly encountered clinical malignant tumors of the urinary system with high recurrence and high mortality. Recent studies have suggested that the non-invasive and accurate classification of bladder cancer using MRI images and deep learning models is of great significance to formulating treatment plans and evaluating prognosis. However, due to various kinds of difficulties in data collection, medical imaging data often have the characteristics of small samples, incomplete sequence data, and mixed storage of all case data. To address these issues, we propose in this paper a multi-granularity intelligent diagnostic method for staging and grading bladder cancer using limited MRI data, which automatically divides the case data, and adaptively selects data augmentation methods and deep learning model according to the number of case data. For the diagnostic model of sequence image data, the autoencoder based model is used to optimize the diagnostic features of the images, and the feature correlation between data sequences is used to classify bladder cancer. For the diagnostic model of single image data, the attention mechanism is introduced to strengthen the diagnostic features of images. Extensive use of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) as plasticizer causes diffusion into the environment, which posed a great threat to mankind. It was reported that Comamonas sp. was a potentially robust aromatic biodegrader. Although the biodegradation of several PAEs by Comamonas sp. was studies, the comprehensive genomic analysis of Comamonas sp. was few reported. In the present study, one promising bacterial strain for biodegrading diethyl phthalate (DEP) was successfully isolated from activated sludge and characterized as Comamonas sp. USTBZA1 based on the 16S rRNA sequence analysis. The results showed that pH 7.5, 30 °C and inoculum volume ratio of 6% were optimal for biodegradation. Initial DEP of 50 mg/L could be completely biodegrade by strain USTBZA1 within 24 h which conformed to the Gompertz model. Based on the Q-TOF LC/MS analysis, monoethyl phthalate (MEP) and phthalic acid (PA) were identified as the metabolic products of DEP biodegradation by USTBZA1. Furthermore, the whole genome of Comamonas sp. USTBZA1 was analyzed to clarify the molecular mechanism for PAEs biodegradation by USTBZA1. There were 3 and 41 genes encoding esterase/arylesterase and hydrolase, respectively, and two genes regions (pht34512 and pht4253) were responsible for the conversion of PA to protocatechuate (PCA), and two genes regions (ligCBAIKJ) were involved in PCA metabolism in USTBZA1. Chinese spell checking is a task to detect and correct Chinese spelling errors, which is very important for natural language understanding. Generally, studies on Chinese spell checking are mainly based on n-gram language model and neural network models. However, the validity of the n-gram model needs to balance the value n and the storage resources, and most neural networks cannot efficiently handle the cases with severely uneven distribution of the correct and incorrect characters. This makes spell checking be limited in text application scenarios that contain many oral expressions. To solve the issues, a confusionset-guided decision network for spoken Chinese spell checking is proposed. By using confusionset to generate candidate set, the model can reasonably locate the wrong characters with decision network which ensures bidirectional long short-term memory pay more attention to the characteristics of the wrong characters. To verify the correctness and effectiveness of our model, extensive experiments were carried out on a logistics question and answer corpus and SIGHAN Bake-off dataset. Experimental results show that the model is efficient. It is much effective in spell checking for spoken Chinese, and it outperforms all competitor models. Renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) play a key role in kidney fibrosis by mediating cycle arrest at G2/M. However, the key HDAC isoforms and the underlying mechanism that are involved in G2/M arrest of TECs remain unclear. Here, we find that Hdac9 expression is significantly induced in the mouse fibrotic kidneys, especially in proximal tubules, induced by aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN) or unilateral ureter obstruction (UUO). Tubule-specific deletion of HDAC9 or pharmacological inhibition by TMP195 attenuates epithelial cell cycle arrest in G2/M, then reduces production of profibrotic cytokine and alleviates tubulointerstitial fibrosis in male mice. In vitro, knockdown or inhibition of HDAC9 alleviates the loss of epithelial phenotype in TECs and attenuates fibroblasts activation through inhibiting epithelial cell cycle arrest in G2/M. Mechanistically, HDAC9 deacetylates STAT1 and promotes its reactivation, followed by inducing G2/M arrest of TECs, finally leading to tubulointerstitial fibrosis. Collectively, our studies indicate that HDAC9 may be an attractive therapeutic target for kidney fibrosis. Although accumulating evidence indicates that epithelial cell cycle G2/M arrest is involved in kidney fibrosis, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The regulation of autoimmunity against pancreatic islet β cells for type 1 diabetes (T1D) onset is still unclear. NOD/ShiLtJ (NOD) mice are prone to the onset of autoimmune diabetes, but its congenic strain, ALR/Lt (ALR), is not. Here we show that dendritic cells (DC) in ALR mice have impaired migratory and T-cell priming capability. Genomic comparative analysis maps a 33-bp deletion in the ALR Myosin IXb (Myo9b) gene when compared with NOD genome; meanwhile, data from knock-in models show that this ALR Myo9b allele impairs phenotypic and functional maturation of DCs, and prevents the development and progression of spontaneous autoimmune diabetes in NOD mice. In parallel, while the ALR 33-bp deletion of Myo9b is not conserved in human, we find a MYO9B R133Q polymorphism associating with increased risk of T1D and enhanced DC function in patients with T1D. The separation of light hydrocarbons, including C2H6 and C3H8, is essential to natural gas upgrading. Meanwhile, N2 removal from CH4 is also crucial to concentrating low-quality coalbed methane, but the adsorption process is challenging because of the close kinetic diameter. This work reports two hydrogen-bonded metal-nucleobase frameworks (HOF-ZJU-201 and HOF-ZJU-202) capable of efficiently separating C3H8/CH4, C2H6/CH4, and CH4/N2. Due to strong affinity for C3H8 and C2H6, the low-pressure capacity for C3H8 (5 kPa) and C2H6 (10 kPa) of HOF-ZJU-201a exceeds most adsorbents. The ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) selectivity of C3H8/CH4 and C2H6/CH4 is 119 and 45 at ambient conditions. According to density functional theory calculations, surface polarization environments formed by electron-rich anions and electron-deficient purine heterocyclic rings contribute to the selective capture of C3H8 and C2H6 with greater polarizability. Furthermore, the high CH4 adsorption capacity (1.73 mmol/g for HOF-ZJU-201a and 1.50 mmol/g for HOF-ZJU-202a at 298 K and 1.0 bar) and excellent CH4/N2 selectivity (6.0 for HOF-ZJU-201 at 298 K), as well as dynamic breakthrough experiments of binary CH4/N2 gas mixture implied their efficacy in the concentration of low-quality coalbed methane. Multi-label ranking, which returns multiple top-ranked labels for each instance, has a wide range of applications for visual tasks. Due to its complicated setting, prior arts have proposed various measures to evaluate model performances. However, both theoretical analysis and empirical observations show that a model might perform inconsistently on different measures. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a novel measure named Top-K Pairwise Ranking (TKPR), and a series of analyses show that TKPR is compatible with existing ranking-based measures. In light of this, we further establish an empirical surrogate risk minimization framework for TKPR. On one hand, the proposed framework enjoys convex surrogate losses with the theoretical support of Fisher consistency. On the other hand, we establish a sharp generalization bound for the proposed framework based on a novel technique named data-dependent contraction. A promising bacterial strain for biodegrading dibutyl phthalate (DBP) was successfully isolated from activated sludge and characterized as a potential novel Microbacterium sp. USTB-Y based on 16S rRNA sequence analysis and whole genome average nucleotide identity (ANI). Initial DBP of 50 mg/L could be completely biodegraded by USTB-Y both in mineral salt medium and in DBP artificially contaminated soil within 12 h at the optimal culture conditions of pH 7.5 and 30 ℃, which indicates that USTB-Y has a strong ability in DBP biodegradation. Phthalic acid (PA) was identified as the end-product of DBP biodegraded by USTB-Y using GC/MS. The draft genome of USTB-Y was sequenced by Illumina NovaSeq and 29 and 188 genes encoding for putative esterase/carboxylesterase and hydrolase/alpha/beta hydrolase were annotated based on NR (non redundant protein sequence database) analysis, respectively. Gene3781 and gene3780 from strain USTB-Y showed 100% identity with dpeH and mpeH from Microbacterium sp. PAE-1. But no phthalate catabolic gene (pht) cluster was found in the genome of strain USTB-Y. Developing the catalytic activity and selectivity of palladium (Pd) catalysts for acetylene hydrogenation is key importance in the chemical industry and remains a challenge to this day. Here, the catalytic performance of Pd catalysts are influenced by the Pd electronic structure, in turn, controlled by different heteroatom doped support. Different catalysts are prepared by ionic liquids (ILs) with different precursors, and catalytic activity of selective hydrogenation of acetylene was investigated. The Pd/NC catalyst exhibits extraordinary conversion, selectivity and stable for the hydrogenation of acetylene (94.6% acetylene conversion with 91.3% selectivity to ethylene). This remarkable catalytic performance of Pd/NC is mainly linked to nitrogen-doped (N-doped) changes the electronic structure of Pd nanoparticles, ensures the rapid desorption of ethylene and prevents the formation of unnecessary ethane by over hydrogenation (demonstrated by XPS and DFT). Our strategy of controlling the electronic structure of Pd can be widely used in the reactions that change the micro electrochemical properties of active metals. The selective hydrogenation of acetylene to ethylene over Pd/NC with excellent conversion and selectivity is investigated. The doping of nitrogen leads to the unique electronic structure of Pd on the Pd/NC catalyst, which influences the adsorption of ethylene and acetylene, thus promoting its catalytic activity. Nowadays, how to effectively evaluate visual properties has become a popular topic for fine-grained visual comprehension. In this paper we study the problem of how to estimate such visual properties from a ranking perspective with the help of the annotators from online crowdsourcing platforms. The main challenges of our task are two-fold. On one hand, the annotations often contain contaminated information, where a small fraction of label flips might ruin the global ranking of the whole dataset. On the other hand, considering the large data capacity, the annotations are often far from being complete. What is worse, there might even exist imbalanced annotations where a small subset of samples are frequently annotated. Facing such challenges, we propose a robust ranking framework based on the principle of Hodge decomposition of imbalanced and incomplete ranking data. According to the HodgeRank theory, we find that the major source of the contamination comes from the cyclic ranking component of the Hodge decomposition. This leads us to an outlier detection formulation as sparse approximations of the cyclic ranking projection. Taking a step further, it facilitates a novel outlier detection model as Huber's LASSO in robust statistics. Moreover, simple yet scalable algorithms are developed based on Linearized Bregman Iteration to achieve an even less biased estimator. Statistical consistency of outlier detection is established in both cases under nearly the same conditions. Our studies are supported by experiments with both simulated examples and real-world data. Coumarin is widely used in personal care products and pharmaceutical industry, which leads to the release of this compound into environment as an emerging contaminant. Here, a promising strain USTB-Z for biodegrading coumarin was successfully isolated from botanical soil and characterized as a potential novel Pseudomonas sp. based on 16S rDNA sequence analysis and orthologous average nucleotide identity tool. Initial coumarin up to 800 mg/L could be completely removed by USTB-Z within 48 h at the optimal culture conditions of pH 7.3 and 30 °C, which indicates that USTB-Z has a strong capacity in coumarin biodegradation. The biodegradation products of coumarin were further investigated using HPLC and Q-TOF LC/MS, and melilotic acid and 2,3-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acid were identified. The draft genome of strain USTB-Z was sequenced by Illumina NovaSeq, and 21 CDSs for NAD (P)-dependent oxidoreductase, 43 CDSs for hydrolase, 1 CDS for FAD-depend monooxygenase, 1 CDS for 3-hydroxycinnamic acid hydroxylase, 21 CDSs for dioxygenase, and 5 CDSs for fumarylacetoacetate (FAA) hydrolase were annotated and correlated to coumarin biodegradation. Waste seashells derived CaO + Raney Ni catalyst were first used for Guerbet reaction of cyclopentanol, which was a meaningful reaction towards bio-jet fuel synthesis. This way would tally with the concept of green chemistry and economic efficiency. Cyclopentanol is well-known as a kind of lignocellulose-derived downstream platform chemicals, which is nonedible, much cheaper and easily available. In this study, the effects of shell source, calcination temperature, catalyst particle size on the activity of Guerbet reaction were investigated. Among these catalysts, C-shell-950 + Raney Ni exhibited the best catalytic performance. 94.6% total yield was achieved over C-shell-950 + Raney Ni (dimer yield: 76.3%, trimer yield: 18.3%), which was comparable to commercial CaO and Raney Ni catalysts (96.8%). Commercial CaO can be replaced directly by C-shell-950 catalysts without grinding. According to the results of multiple characterizations, two major factors were revealed to the excellent catalytic performance of C-shell + Raney Ni catalysts: (1) high CaO content of the C-shell catalysts; (2) the existence of promotion effect element (Na species) and negative effect elements (S, Al, and Si species) may affect the reaction. A virulent phage, named vB_EcoS_XY3, was isolated from hospital wastewater in Xiangyang, China. Its morphological characteristics, growth parameters, adsorption rate, and pH and temperature stability were determined. Phage vB_EcoS_XY3 was found to be able to infect Escherichia coli laboratory strains and also some multidrug-resistant E. coli strains. Its complete genome consists of 51,345 base pairs of double-stranded DNA with an average GC content of 55.24% and 85 putative protein-coding genes. Forty-four genes were annotated with known functions. Haemaphysalis longicornis is an ixodid tick that can spread a wide variety of pathogens, affecting humans, livestock and wildlife health. The high reproductive capability of this species is initiated by the ingestion of a large amount of blood ingested by the engorged female tick. The degree of ovarian development is proportional to the number of eggs laid. Studying the regulatory mechanism of tick ovary development is relevant for the development of novel tick control methods. In this study, we used quantitative proteomics to study the dynamic changes in protein expression and protein phosphorylation during ovarian development of engorged female H. longicornis ticks. Synergistic action of many proteins (n = 3031) is required to achieve ovarian development and oocyte formation rapidly. Through bioinformatics analysis, changes in protein expressions and phosphorylation modifications in regulating the ovarian development of female ticks are described. Many proteins play an essential role during ovarian development. Also, protein phosphorylation appeared an important reproductive strategy to enable ticks to efficiently convert large amounts of blood in the ovaries into egg-producing components and ultimately produce many eggs. Currently, biotransformation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into a series of high-value bio-based platform chemicals is massively studied. In this study, selective biooxidation of HMF to 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxylic acid (HMFCA) by Pseudomonas putida KT2440 with superior titer, yield, and productivity was reported. The biocatalytic performances of P. putida KT2440 were optimized separately. Under optimal conditions, 100% yield of HMFCA was obtained when HMF concentration was less than 150 mM, while the maximum concentration of 155 mM was achieved from 160 mM HMF in 12 h. P. putida KT2440 was highly tolerate to HMF, up to 190 mM. Besides, it was capable of selective oxidation of other furan aldehydes to the corresponding carboxylic acids with good yield of 100%. This study further demonstrates the potential of P. putida KT2440 as a biocatalyst for biomass conversion, as this strain has been proved the capacity to convert and utilize many kinds of biomass-derived sugars and ligin-derived aromatic compounds. This study investigated the impact of adding zeolite (F), superphosphate (G), and ferrous sulfate (L) in various combinations on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and improving nitrogen conservation during factory-scale chicken manure composting, aimed to identify the combination that optimizes the performance of the process. Chicken manure was mixed with F, G, FL, or FGL and subjected to windrow composting for 46 days. Results showed that global warming potential (GWP) was reduced by 21.9% (F), 22.8% (FL), 36.1% (G), and 39.3% (FGL). Further, the nitrogen content in the final composting product increased by 27.25%, 9.45%, and 21.86% in G, FL, and FGL amendments, respectively. The fertilizer efficiency of the compost product was assessed by measuring the biomass of plants grown in it, and it was consistent with the nitrogen content. N2O emission was negligible during composting, and 98% of the released GHGs comprised CO2 and CH4. Reduction in GHG emission was mainly achieved by reducing CH4 emission. The addition of FL, G, and FGL caused a clear shift in the abundance of dominant methanogens; particularly, the abundance of Methanobrevibacter decreased and that of Methanobacterium and Methanocella increased, which was correlated with CH4 emissions. Background and Objectives: Gambogenic acid (GNA), which possesses diverse antitumor activities both in vitro and in vivo, is regarded as a potential anticancer compound. Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes play an important role in the metabolism of most xenobiotics; constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), a nuclear receptor that might be activated by xenobiotics and associated with the expression of some CYPs. In this study, we determined the effect of GNA on multiple rat liver CYP isoforms (CYP1A2, 2B1, and 2E1) and CAR as well as the potential of GNA to interact with co-administered drugs.Methods: Male SD rats were randomly divided into the control, and the low (5 mg/kg)-, medium (25 mg/kg)-, and high- (100 mg/kg) dose GNA groups. After the intragastric administration of GNA for 14 consecutive days, a cocktail method was adopted to evaluate the activities of CYP1A2, 2B1, and 2E1. The liver expression of CYP1A2, 2B1, and 2E1 and CAR was analyzed by Western blotting (WB) and quantitative real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).Results: The 14-day administration of GNA significantly increased both the mRNA and protein expressions and the activity of CYP2E1. Additionally, the mRNA and protein expressions of CYP1A2 were clearly induced, while only the high GNA dose increased the activity of liver CYP1A2. Moreover, the mRNA expression levels of CYP2B1 and CAR were increased, but their protein levels and the activity parameters of CYP2B1 did not show significant changes.Conclusions: The obtained results suggest that the CYP1A2 and CYP2E1 enzymes could be induced in rats after treatment with GNA. Purpose: Antiviral prophylaxis is proved to be effective in reducing the risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation in hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive patients under immunotherapy. But outcomes referring to discontinuation of antiviral prophylaxis in these patients are lacking.Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 105 HBsAg-positive patients under immunotherapy for glomerulonephritis and evaluated the incidence and risk factors for HBV reactivation.Results: Among 105 patients, 55.24% completed antiviral prophylaxis, while 20.00% discontinued and 24.76% rejected antiviral prophylaxis. HBV reactivation was significantly different among completion, discontinuation, and rejection of antiviral prophylaxis: 5.17% versus 38.10% versus 15.38% in the incidence of HBV reactivation (P = 0.001), 3.45% versus 23.81% versus 11.54% in HBV DNA ≥ 5 Log copies/ml (P = 0.023), and 0 versus 14.29% versus 3.85% in hepatitis B e antigen seroconversion from negative to positive (P = 0.014). Survival curve showed the median occurrence time of HBV reactivation in discontinuation group was 32 months (95% CI 24-39 months), earlier than 69 months (95% CI 65-72 months) of completion group and 43 months (95% CI 37-49 months) of rejection group (χ2 = 13.780, P = 0.001). Univariate and multivariate analysis identified two independent risk factors for HBV reactivation: baseline HBV DNA detectable (OR 5.009, 95% CI 1.717-16.335, P = 0.012) and discontinuation of antiviral prophylaxis (OR 5.213, 95% CI 1.688-18.105, P = 0.011).Conclusions: Discontinuation of antiviral prophylaxis increased the risk of HBV reactivation in HBsAg-positive patients under immunotherapy for glomerulonephritis. In order to find an alternative for commercial inulinase, a strain XL01 identified as Penicillium sp. was screened for inulinase production. The broth after cultivated was centrifuged, filtered, and used as crude enzyme for the following saccharification. At pH 5.0 and 50 °C, the crude enzyme released 84.9 g/L fructose and 20.7 g/L glucose from 120 g/L inulin in 72 h. In addition, simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of chicory flour for D-lactic acid production was carried out using the self-produced crude inulinase and Lactobacillus bulgaricus CGMCC 1.6970. A high D-lactic acid titer and productivity of 122.0 g/L and 1.69 g/(L h) was achieved from 120 g/L chicory flour in 72 h. The simplicity for inulinase production and the high efficiency for D-lactic acid fermentation provide a perspective and profitable industrial biotechnology for utilization of the inulin-rich biomass. Inulin is a readily available feedstock for cost-effective production of biochemicals. To date, several studies have explored the production of bioethanol, high-fructose syrup and fructooligosaccharide, but there are no studies regarding the production of d-lactic acid using inulin as a carbon source. In the present study, chicory-derived inulin was used for d-lactic acid biosynthesis by Lactobacillus bulgaricus CGMCC 1.6970. Compared with separate hydrolysis and fermentation processes, simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) has demonstrated the best performance of d-lactic acid production. Because it prevents fructose inhibition and promotes the complete hydrolysis of inulin, the highest d-lactic acid concentration (123.6 ± 0.9 g/L) with a yield of 97.9 % was obtained from 120 g/L inulin by SSF. Moreover, SSF by L. bulgaricus CGMCC 1.6970 offered another distinct advantage with respect to the higher optical purity of d-lactic acid (>99.9 %) and reduced number of residual sugars. In this work, by doping the lanthanide(iii)–hexafluoroacetylacetone complex into LAPONITE®, we obtained a lanthanide-based organic–inorganic hybrid material. The resulting hybrid materials were fully characterized with elementary analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) techniques. The Ln3+ and HFA loadings were experimentally determined to be roughly 0.3 per u.c. and 0.72 per u.c. by analyzing the supernatant (titration against EDTA) and elemental analysis, respectively. XRD patterns suggest that at least partial complexes are intercalated within the interlayers of the LAPONITE®. The in situ formation of luminescent Ln3+ complexes is confirmed by the luminescence data. Furthermore, the emission intensity ratio of the 5D4→7F5 transition (Tb3+) to the 5D0→7F2 transition (Eu3+) of the hybrid material containing both Eu3+ and Tb3+ can be linearly related to temperature in the range from 197 K to 287 K (temperature sensitivity: 1.107% per K), which will be an appealing alternative for in situ and real time detection of temperature in many special areas. Background: Regenerating islet-derived 3 (Reg3) is abnormally expressed in several human digestive system diseases, including chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic cancer (PC).Aim: The purpose of this study was to clarify the mechanism of the enhanced expression of Reg3 in inflammation-induced PC.Methods: C57BL/6 mice were treated with caerulein for 6 weeks to induce CP and then injected with pReg3g--a lentivirus system encoding for murine Reg3g--accompanied by dimethylbenzanthracene to induce PC. We detected pancreatic histopathological characteristics, tumor-related gene expression, inflammation-associated pathway activation, serum biochemical indicators, and immunological cell activities.Results: The mice that developed CP after caerulein treatment were marked by pronounced histologic lesions, elevated serum amylase levels, and activation of inflammation-related pathways. Mice given a high dose of pReg3g developed PC by 16 weeks, with recognizable tumors in the pancreas. While, both the low and high doses of pReg3g produced higher transcription of c-fos, k-ras, cytokeratin-19, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen, and a lower expression of caspase-3 compared to pNEG controls. Additionally, the higher dose of pReg3g increased the expressions of pSTAT3, NFκB (p65), and SOCS3 methylation during PC development. In addition, mice treated with pReg3g displayed higher levels of serum IL10 and TGFβ and suppressed T lymphocyte proliferation and DC function.Conclusion: The comprehensive analysis suggests enhanced Reg3g expression exacerbates PC in inflammation-associated cancer progression. Reg3g appears to promote CP-related PC in mice through multiple mechanisms, involving enhanced transcription of pancreatic tumor markers, repression of anti-tumor immunity, and activation of STAT3/p65 signal transduction pathways. The host innate immune response either clears invading viruses or allows the adaptive immune system to establish an effective antiviral response. In this study, both pathogenic (passage 3, P3) and attenuated (P110) infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) strains were used to study the immune responses of chicken to IBV infection. Expression of avian β-defensins (AvBDs) and Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in 16 tissues of chicken were compared at 7 days PI. The results showed that P3 infection upregulated the expression of AvBDs, including AvBD2, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 12, while P110 infection downregulated the expression of AvBDs, including AvBD3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 in most tissues. Meanwhile, the expression level of several TLRs showed a general trend of upregulation in the tissues of P3-infected chickens, while they were downregulated in the tissues of P110-infected chickens. The result suggested that compared with the P110 strain, the P3 strain induced a more pronounced host innate immune response. Furthermore, we observed that recombinant AvBDs (including 2, 6, and 12) demonstrated obvious anti-viral activity against IBV in vitro. Our findings contribute to the proposal that IBV infection induces an increase in the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of some AvBDs and TLRs, which suggests that AvBDs may play significant roles in the resistance of chickens to IBV replication. The use of tissue-specific promoters to drive the expression of target genes during certain developmental stages or in specific organs can prevent unnecessary gene expression caused by constitutive promoters. Utilizing heterologous promoters to regulate the expression of genes in transgenic receptors can help prevent gene silencing. Here, we engineered heterologous maize promoters that regulate gene-specific expression in rice plant receptors. We performed a histochemical and quantitative β-glucuronidase (GUS) analysis of the Zea mays legumin1 ( ZM- LEGF) gene promoter and detailed detection of stably transformed rice expressing the GUS gene under the control of the promoter of ZM- LEGF ( pZM- LEGF) and its truncated promoters throughout development. When the promoter sequence was truncated, the location and intensity of GUS expression changed. The results suggest that the sequence from −140 to +41 is a critical region that confers the expression of the entire promoter. Truncation of pZM- LEG (3′-deleted region of pZM- LEGF) markedly increased the GUS activity, with the core cis-elements located in the −273 to −140 regions, namely pZM- LEG6. Detailed analysis of p ZM- LEG6:: GUS T transformant rice seeds and plant tissues at different developmental stages indicated that this promoter is an ideal vegetative tissue-specific promoter that can serve as a valuable tool for transgenic rice breeding and genetic engineering studies. MADS-box family proteins play an important role in grain formation and flower development; however, the molecular mechanisms by which transcription factors regulate the starch metabolism pathway are unclear in maize. Here, we report a transcription factor, ZmMADS1a, that controls starch biosynthesis in maize (Zea mays L.). We demonstrate the expression of ZmMADS1a in tassel, silk, and endosperm, and show that the protein is localized to the cell nucleus. Compared with the control, seeds of overexpressing ZmMADS1a increased starch content (especially amylose content), had smaller starch granules and altered chemical structure. Meanwhile, overexpression of ZmMADS1a resulted in increases in the contents of soluble sugars and reducing sugars in maize. ZmMADS1a plays a positive regulatory role in the starch biosynthesis pathway by up-regulating several starch biosynthesis related genes. We also show that ZmMADS1a has a similar adjustment mechanism of starch biosynthesis in rice. Collectively, our study suggests that ZmMADS1a functions as a positive regulator of starch biosynthesis by regulating the expression of key starch metabolism genes during seed development. Co-culture of Bacillus coagulans and Candida utilis was firstly investigated in the efficient treatment of Lactobacillus fermentation wastewater (LFW) containing total organic carbon (TOC) of 22.0 g/L and total nitrogen (TN) of 2.4 g/L. The utilization of lactic acid by C. utilis was responsible for the relief of feedback inhibition to promote the growth of B. coagulans. The removal ratio of TOC by B. coagulans and C. utilis was only 9.1% and 22.7%, respectively, which was improved to 49.0% by co-culture. The removal ratio of TN by B. coagulans and C. utilis was merely 6.3% and 12.5%, respectively, which was also promoted to 44.6% by co-culture. Both the high growth of B. coagulans and the efficient removal of TOC and TN from LFW was achieved with the co-culture, which is not previously reported and very important in the production of probiotics with the resource utilization of LFW.
