Hulls of linear codes are widely studied due to their good properties and wide applications. Let n = q m - 1 r and C be an [n, k] cyclic code over F q , where r | q - 1 . In this paper, we present several necessary and sufficient conditions for BCH codes of length n that have k - 1 or k ⊥ - 1 dimensional hulls, where k ⊥ is the dimension of C ⊥ . Entanglement-assisted quantum-error-correcting (EAQEC) codes are quantum codes which use entanglement as a resource. These codes can provide better error correction than the (entanglement unassisted) codes derived from the traditional stabilizer formalism. In this paper, we provide a general method to construct EAQEC codes from cyclic codes. Afterwards, the method is applied to Reed–Solomon codes, BCH codes, and general cyclic codes. We use the Euclidean and Hermitian construction of EAQEC codes. Three families have been created: two families of EAQEC codes are maximal distance separable (MDS), and one is almost MDS or almost near MDS. Tietäväinen’s upper and lower bounds assert that for block-length- $n$ linear codes with dual distance $d$ , the covering radius $R$ is at most $({n}/{2})-(({1}/{2})-o(1))\sqrt {dn}$ and typically at least $({n}/{2})-\Theta (({dn\log {({n}/{d})}})^{1/2})$. The gap between those bounds on $R -({n}/{2})$ is a $\Theta (({\log {({n}/{d})}})^{1/2})$ factor related to the gap between the worst covering radius given $d$ and the sphere-covering bound. Our focus in this paper is on the case when $d = o(n)$ , i.e., when the code size is subexponential and the gap is $w(1)$. We show that up to a constant, the gap can be eliminated by relaxing the covering requirement to allow for missing $o(1)$ fraction of points. Namely, if the dual distance $d = o(n)$ , then for sufficiently large $d$ , almost all points can be covered with radius $R\leq ({n}/{2})-\Theta (({dn\log {({n}/{d})}})^{1/2})$. Compared with random linear codes, our bound on $R-({n}/{2})$ is asymptotically tight up to a factor less than 3. We give applications to dual-BCH codes. In addition to their applications in data storage, communications systems, and consumer electronics, linear complementary dual (LCD) codes—a class of linear codes—have been employed in cryptography recently. LCD cyclic codes were referred to as reversible cyclic codes in the literature. The objective of this paper is to construct several families of reversible cyclic codes over finite fields and analyze their parameters. The LCD cyclic codes presented in this paper have very good parameters in general, and contain many optimal codes. A well rounded treatment of reversible cyclic codes is also given in this paper. Cyclic codes are widely employed in communication systems, storage devices, and consumer electronics, as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. BCH codes, as a special subclass of cyclic codes, are in most cases among the best cyclic codes. BCH codes are an important class of cyclic codes which have applications in satellite communications, DVDs, disk drives, and two-dimensional bar codes. Although BCH codes have been widely studied, their parameters are known for only a few special classes. Recently, Ding et al. made some new progress in BCH codes. However, we still have very limited knowledge on the dimension of BCH codes, not to mention the weight distribution of BCH codes. In this paper, we generalize the results on BCH codes from several previous papers. 1) The dimension of narrow-sense BCH codes of length $((q^{m}-1)/{\lambda })$ with designed distance $2\leq \delta \leq (({q^{\lceil (m+1)/2 \rceil }-1})/(\lambda)+1)$ is settled, where $\lambda $ is any factor of $(q-1)$. 2) The weight distributions of two classes of narrow-sense BCH codes of length $(({q^{m}-1})/2)$ with designed distance $\delta =(({(q-1)q^{m-1}-q^{\lfloor (m-1)/2\rfloor }-1})/2)$ and $\delta =(({(q-1)q^{m-1}-q^{\lfloor (m+1)/2\rfloor }-1})/2)$ are determined. 3) The weight distribution of a class of BCH codes of length $((q^{m}-1)/({q-1}))$ is determined. In this paper, we present the block Markov superposition transmission of BCH (BMST-BCH) codes, which can be constructed to obtain a very low error floor. To reduce the implementation complexity, we design a low complexity iterative sliding-window decoding algorithm, in which only binary and/or erasure messages are processed and exchanged between processing units. The error floor can be predicted by the proposed genie-aided lower bounds, while the waterfall performance can be analyzed by the density evolution method. To evaluate the error floor of the constructed BMST-BCH codes at a very low bit error rate (BER) region, we propose a fast simulation approach. Numerical results show that, at a target BER of $10^{-15}$ , the proposed BMST-BCH code with hard-decision can achieve a net coding gain (NCG) of 10.55 dB with 25% overhead, while a soft-decision design can yield an NCG of 10.74 dB. The construction of BMST-BCH codes is flexible to trade off latency against performance at all overheads of interest and may find applications in optical transport networks as an attractive candidate. Binary quasi-reversible BCH codes whose defining set contains consecutive elements from negative to positive integers have received considerable attention in recent years due to their efficient decoding suitable for a wide range of applications. This paper combines the concept of the weight and quasi-reversible structures to introduce two subclasses of BCH codes: odd-like/even-like quasi-reversible BCH codes. The step-by-step decoding of these codes is developed as follows: First, the weight evaluation of a received polynomial is able to judge whether the number of errors is odd or even, which helps to simplify the decoding processes. Second, based on Chiò’s pivotal condensation process which can be easily implemented in a parallel computing architecture, the determinant calculation of the band matrix instead of Peterson’s matrix in column-echelon form is faster. Third, a newly proposed non-monic error-locator polynomial is sparser than the conventional ones. As a consequence, the theoretical analysis and experimental results validate potential benefits in requiring fewer finite field additions and multiplications used in the decoding of binary odd-like/even-like quasi-reversible BCH codes up to half the minimum distance when compared with the narrow-sense BCH codes with small error-correcting capability. For the recently developed quasi-reversible BCH codes with long lengths and high error-correcting capability, this paper is aimed at proposing a new and faster decoding procedure. It consists of four steps: 1) compute the consecutive syndromes; 2) calculate the syndrome functions by the forward and backward recursions; 3) solve a linear subsystem together with one matrix multiplication in order to find an error-locator polynomial; 4) determine the errors from the obtained polynomial by using the root-finding algorithm. This procedure, especially in Steps 2 and 3, differs greatly from the conventional procedures, which determine an error-locator polynomial directly from solving a linear system with the aid of the consecutive syndromes. The key idea behind this decoding technique is that the computational complexity of such a small subsystem instead of an originally large linear system can be significantly reduced, although there are additional forward and backward syndrome calculations with low complexity increasing. Finally, the illustrative examples and numerical simulations can be helpful to demonstrate the accuracy and efficacy of the presented decoding technique at different error-correcting capabilities. Interleaved Reed–Solomon codes admit efficient decoding algorithms which correct burst errors far beyond half the minimum distance in the random errors regime, e.g., by computing a common solution to the Key Equation for each Reed–Solomon code, as described by Schmidt et al. If this decoder does not succeed, it may either fail to return a codeword or miscorrect to an incorrect codeword, and good upper bounds on the fraction of error matrices for which these events occur are known. The decoding algorithm immediately applies to interleaved alternant codes as well, i.e., the subfield subcodes of interleaved Reed–Solomon codes, but the fraction of decodable error matrices differs, since the error is now restricted to a subfield. In this paper, we present new general lower and upper bounds on the fraction of error matrices decodable by Schmidt et al.’s decoding algorithm, thereby making it the only decoding algorithm for interleaved alternant codes for which such bounds are known. This paper is devoted to studying two main problems: 1) computing the apparent distance of an Abelian code and 2) giving a notion of Bose, Ray-Chaudhuri, Hocquenghem (BCH) multivariate code. To do this, we first strengthen the notion of an apparent distance by introducing the notion of a strong apparent distance; then, we present an algorithm to compute the strong apparent distance of an Abelian code, based on some manipulations of hypermatrices associated with its generating idempotent. Our method uses less computations than those given by Camion and Sabin; furthermore, in the bivariate case, the order of computation complexity is reduced from exponential to linear. Then, we use our techniques to develop a notion of a BCH code in the multivariate case, and we extend most of the classical results on cyclic BCH codes. MDS matrices allow to build optimal linear diffusion layers in the design of block ciphers and hash functions. There has been a lot of study in designing efficient MDS matrices suitable for software and/or hardware implementations. In particular recursive MDS matrices are considered for resource constrained environments. Such matrices can be expressed as a power of simple companion matrices, i.e., an MDS matrix $$M = C_g^k$$ for some companion matrix corresponding to a monic polynomial $$g(X) \in \mathbb {F}_q[X]$$ of degree k. In this paper, we first show that for a monic polynomial g( X) of degree $$k\ge 2$$ , the matrix $$M = C_g^k$$ is MDS if and only if g( X) has no nonzero multiple of degree $$\le 2k-1$$ and weight $$\le k$$ . This characterization answers the issues raised by Augot et al. in FSE-2014 paper to some extent. We then revisit the algorithm given by Augot et al. to find all recursive MDS matrices that can be obtained from a class of BCH codes (which are also MDS) and propose an improved algorithm. We identify exactly what candidates in this class of BCH codes yield recursive MDS matrices. So the computation can be confined to only those potential candidate polynomials, and thus greatly reducing the complexity. As a consequence we are able to provide formulae for the number of such recursive MDS matrices, whereas in FSE-2014 paper, the same numbers are provided by exhaustively searching for some small parameter choices. We also present a few ideas making the search faster for finding efficient recursive MDS matrices in this class. Using our approach, it is possible to exhaustively search this class for larger parameter choices which was not possible earlier. The Rosenbloom–Tsfasman metric has attracted the attention of many researchers as a generalization of the Hamming metric that is relevant to practical problems. Codes for this metric were considered. In particular, Reed–Solomon codes were generalized to be compatible with this metric. In this paper, a generalization of BCH codes for the Rosenbloom–Tsfasman metric is proposed. This generalization is based on considering BCH codes as subfield subcodes of Reed–Solomon codes. By characterizing these subfield subcodes, an explicit construction of BCH codes for the Rosenbloom–Tsfasman metric is provided. Two important properties of Reed–Solomon codes and BCH codes for the Rosenbloom–Tsfasman metric are studied and compared with those for the Hamming metric. BCH codes are an interesting type of cyclic codes and have wide applications in communication and storage systems. Generally, it is very hard to determine the minimum distances of BCH codes. In this paper, we determine the weight distributions of two classes of primitive BCH codes $\mathcal C_{(q, m, \delta _{2})}$ and $\mathcal C_{(q, m, \delta _{3})}$ and their extended codes, which solve two problems proposed by Ding et al. It is shown that the extended codes $\overline {\mathcal C}_{(q, m, \delta _{2})}$ have four nonzero weights. We also employ the Hartmann-Tzeng bound to present the minimum distance of the dual code $\mathcal C_{(q, m, \delta _{2})}^\perp $ for $q \ge 5$. Inspired by the idea, we then determine the dimensions of a class of cyclic codes and give lower bounds on their minimum distances, which is greatly improved comparing with the BCH bound. In this paper, we study negacyclic BCH codes over Fq of length n=(q2m-1)/(q-1), where q is an odd prime power and m is a positive integer. In particular, the dimension, the minimum distance and the weight distribution of some negacyclic BCH codes over Fq of length n=(q2m-1)/(q-1) are determined. Two classes of negacyclic BCH codes meeting the Griesmer bound are obtained. As an application, we construct quantum codes with good parameters from this class of negacyclic BCH codes. With the application of graph neural network (GNN) in the communication physical layer, GNN-based channel decoding algorithms have become a research hotspot. Compared with traditional decoding algorithms, GNN-based channel decoding algorithms have a better performance. GNN has good stability and can handle large-scale problems; GNN has good inheritance and can generalize to different network settings. Compared with deep learning-based channel decoding algorithms, GNN-based channel decoding algorithms avoid a large number of multiplications between learning weights and messages. However, the aggregation edges and nodes for GNN require many parameters, which requires a large amount of memory storage resources. In this work, we propose GNN-based channel decoding algorithms with shared parameters, called shared graph neural network (SGNN). For BCH codes and LDPC codes, the SGNN decoding algorithm only needs a quarter or half of the parameters, while achieving a slightly degraded bit error ratio (BER) performance. Recently, there has been a growing concern regarding the dependability of NAND flash cells, notably as the scale of their features reduces. To address this issue, implementing error correction codes (ECC) proves to be an effective solution. Among the various methods, BCH coding has gained significant interest because of its exceptional error correction capabilities. Over the last decades, there has been much research on BCH decoder design to meet the demand for reduced hardware complexities, minimized delay performance, and lower power dissipation to enable BCH decoders and their VLSI implementations to facilitate different code lengths and rates of code. This paper surveys the trends and challenges associated with BCH decoder in NAND flash memory devices, the possible solutions for overcoming of time and area overhead in architecture of BCH decoder block and an examination of the extent to which present architectures will respond to the escalating requirements on data transfer rate, bit error rate (BER) performance, power consumption, and silicon area that will be essential for the extensive acceptance of BCH code in applications that will emerge in the near future. To demonstrate the need for such solutions, we present rigorous experimental data on BCH error correction codes on various types of flash memory errors, to motivate the need for such techniques. Based on the understanding developed by the experimental characterization, we describe several area-delay efficient techniques, including three low-latency decoding strategies for implementing the BCH decoder: pipeline method, re-encoding scheme, and parallelization method, and various hardware optimization strategies for the BCH decoder, such as three area-efficient syndrome block architectures, four error locator polynomial detection algorithms, and four error position identification algorithms using the Chien search method. We investigate the increase in reliability that each of these methods brings. We also briefly address future directions that these methods and flash memory techniques could evolve into the future.

This paper proposes a pipelined decoder architecture for generalised concatenated (GC) codes. These codes are constructed from inner binary Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) and outer Reed–Solomon codes. The decoding of the component codes is based on hard decision syndrome decoding algorithms. The concatenated code consists of several small BCH codes. This enables a hardware architecture where the decoding of the component codes is pipelined. A hardware implementation of a GC decoder is presented and the cell area, cycle counts as well as the timing constraints are investigated. The results are compared to a decoder for long BCH codes with similar error correction performance. In this paper, we give the first example of a non-cyclic triple-error-correcting code which is not equivalent to the primitive BCH code. It has parameters [63, 45, 7]. We also give better bounds on minimum distances of some [2 − 1, 2 - 3 n - 1] cyclic codes with three small zeroes. Abstract Under research for nearly sixty years, Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes have played increasingly important roles in many applications such as communication, data storage and information security. However, the dimension and minimum distance of BCH codes have been seldom solved by now because of their intractable characteristics. The objective of this paper is to study the dimensions of some binary BCH codes with length n = 2 m + 1. Many new techniques are employed to investigate the coset leaders modulo n. For m = 2 t + 1 , 4 t + 2 , 8 t + 4 and m ≥ 10 , the first five largest coset leaders modulo n are determined, and the dimensions of some BCH codes of length n with designed distance δ > 2 ⌈ m 2 ⌉ are presented. Quantum error correcting codes (QECCs) play an important role in preventing quantum information decoherence. Good quantum stabilizer codes were constructed by classical error correcting codes. In this paper, Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes over finite fields are used to construct quantum codes. First, we try to find such classical BCH codes, which contain their dual codes, by studying the suitable cyclotomic cosets. Then, we construct nonbinary quantum BCH codes with given parameter sets. Finally, a new family of quantum BCH codes can be realized by Steane's enlargement of nonbinary Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction and Hermitian construction. We have proven that the cyclotomic cosets are good tools to study quantum BCH codes. The defining sets contain the highest numbers of consecutive integers. Compared with the results in the references, the new quantum BCH codes have better code parameters without restrictions and better lower bounds on minimum distances. The Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes are a well-known class of powerful error correction cyclic codes. BCH codes can correct multiple errors with minimal redundancy. Primitive BCH codes only exist for some word lengths, which do not frequently match those employed in digital systems. This paper focuses on double error correction (DEC) codes for word lengths that are in powers of two (8, 16, 32, and 64), which are commonly used in memories. We also focus on hardware implementations of the encoder and decoder circuits for very fast operations. This work proposes new low redundancy and reduced overhead (LRRO) DEC codes, with the same redundancy as the equivalent BCH DEC codes, but whose encoder, and decoder circuits present a lower overhead (in terms of propagation delay, silicon area usage and power consumption). We used a methodology to search parity check matrices, based on error patterns, in order to design the new codes. We implemented and synthesized them, and compared their results with those obtained for the BCH codes. Our implementation of the decoder circuits achieved reductions between 2.8% and 8.7% in the propagation delay, between 1.3% and 3.0% in the silicon area, and between 15.7% and 26.9% in the power consumption. In this paper, the theoretical lower-bound on the success probability of blind reconstruction of Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes is derived. In particular, the blind reconstruction method of BCH codes based on the consecutive roots of generator polynomials is mainly analyzed because this method shows the best blind reconstruction performance. In order to derive a performance lower-bound, the theoretical analysis of BCH codes on the aspects of blind reconstruction is performed. Furthermore, the analysis results can be applied not only to the binary BCH codes but also to the non-binary BCH codes including Reed–Solomon (RS) codes. By comparing the derived lower-bound with the simulation results, it is confirmed that the success probability of the blind reconstruction of BCH codes based on the consecutive roots of generator polynomials is well bounded by the proposed lower-bound. BCH codes have been studied for over fifty years and widely employed in consumer devices, communication systems, and data storage systems. However, the dimension of BCH codes is settled only for a very small number of cases. In this paper, we study the dimensions of BCH codes over finite fields with three types of lengths n , namely n = q m − 1 , n = ( q m − 1 ) ∕ ( q − 1 ) and n = q m + 1 . We introduce a new approach to proving that a sequence of deterministic linear codes achieves capacity on an erasure channel under maximum a posteriori decoding. Rather than relying on the precise structure of the codes, our method exploits code symmetry. In particular, the technique applies to any sequence of linear codes where the blocklengths are strictly increasing, the code rates converge, and the permutation group of each code is doubly transitive. In other words, we show that symmetry alone implies near-optimal performance. An important consequence of this result is that a sequence of Reed–Muller codes with increasing blocklength and converging rate achieves capacity. This possibility has been suggested previously in the literature but it has only been proven for cases where the limiting code rate is 0 or 1. Moreover, these results extend naturally to all affine-invariant codes and, thus, to extended primitive narrow-sense BCH codes. This also resolves, in the affirmative, the existence question for capacity-achieving sequences of binary cyclic codes. The primary tools used in the proof are the sharp threshold property for symmetric monotone Boolean functions and the area theorem for extrinsic information transfer functions. Cyclic Reed–Solomon codes, a type of BCH codes, are widely used in consumer electronics, communication systems, and data storage devices. This fact demonstrates the importance of BCH codes – a family of cyclic codes – in practice. In theory, BCH codes are among the best cyclic codes in terms of their error-correcting capability. A subclass of BCH codes are the narrow-sense primitive BCH codes. However, the dimension and minimum distance of these codes are not known in general. The objective of this paper is to determine the dimension and minimum distances of two classes of narrow-sense primitive BCH codes with designed distances δ = ( q − 1 ) q m − 1 − 1 − q ⌊ ( m − 1 ) / 2 ⌋ and δ = ( q − 1 ) q m − 1 − 1 − q ⌊ ( m + 1 ) / 2 ⌋ . The weight distributions of some of these BCH codes are also reported. As will be seen, the two classes of BCH codes are sometimes optimal and sometimes among the best linear codes known. Modern communication systems require robust, adaptable and high performance decoders for efficient data transmission. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a margin based classification and regression technique. In this paper, decoding of Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem codes has been ap- proached as a multi-class classification problem using SVM. In conventional decoding algorithms, the procedure for de- coding is usually fixed irrespective of the SNR environment in which the transmission takes place, but SVMbeing a machine- learning algorithm is adaptable to the communication envi- ronment. Since the construction of SVM decoder model uses the training data set, application specific decoders can be de- signed by choosing the training size efficiently. With the soft margin width in SVM being controlled by an equation, which has been formulated as a quadratic programming problem, there are no local minima issues in SVM and is robust to outliers. Cognitive Radio smart grids have recently attracted attention because of high efficiency and throughput performance. They transmit (1) periodically collected readings (e.g. monitoring) and (2) highly sensitive data (e.g. geometric location). However, robustness, efficiency and security of the transmitted data compose an unaddressed unique challenge due to CR shared spectrum possible noise. This paper proposes the first novel hybrid model that combines advanced steganographic algorithms with error detection and correction techniques (BCH syndrome codes) in the CR smart meter context. This will allow us to (a) detect and recover any loss from the hidden confidential information without privacy disclosure, and (b) remedy the received normal readings by using the corrected version of the secret hidden data. To randomize hiding and minimize the distortion, 3D wavelet is used to decompose normal readings into a set of coefficients. To strengthen the security, a key is utilized to generate a 3D randomly selected order used in the hiding process. To accurately measure the detection and recovery capabilities, random noise levels are applied to the transmitted readings. The recovered sensitive information and stego readings are extensively measured using BER, PRD and RMS. It is obvious from the experiments that our technique has robust recovery capabilities (i.e. BER = 0, PRD < 1% and RMS < 0.01%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

New properties of q -ary cyclotomic cosets modulo n = q m − 1 , where q ≥ 3 is a prime power, are investigated in this paper. Based on these properties, the dimension as well as bounds for the designed distance of some families of classical cyclic codes can be computed. As an application, new families of nonbinary Calderbank–Shor–Steane (CSS) quantum codes as well as new families of convolutional codes are constructed in this work. These new CSS codes have parameters better than the ones available in the literature. The convolutional codes constructed here have free distance greater than the ones available in the literature. The bilateral minimum distance of a binary linear code is the maximum d such that all nonzero codewords have weights between d and n-d . Let be a binary linear code whose dual has bilateral minimum distance at least d , where d is odd. Roughly speaking, we show that the average L_\infty -distance—between the weight distribution of a random cosets of Q and the binomial distribution decays quickly as the bilateral minimum distance d of the dual of Q increases. For d = \Theta (1) . On the other d=\Theta (n) extreme, it decays like and e^{-\Theta (d)} . It follows that, almost all cosets of Q have weight distributions very close to the to the binomial distribution. In particular, we establish the following bounds. If the dual of Q has bilateral minimum distance at least d=2t+1 , where t\geq 1 -distance is at most \min \ (e\ln (n/2t))^t(2t/n)^(t/2), \sqrt 2 e^-(t/10)\ . For the average L1 -distance, we conclude the bound \min \ (2t+1)(e\ln (n/2t))^t (2t/n)^(t/2)-1, \sqrt 2(n+1)e^-(t/10)\ , which gives nontrivial results for $t\geq 3$ . Today’s communication system design heavily depends on computer simulation for performance evaluation. The burgeoning ultra-reliable communication systems, however, pose a significant simulation challenge as such systems operate at very low packet error rates (PERs) whereas the required simulation time of the conventional Monte Carlo (MC) method is many times the inverse of the PER. Various importance sampling-type techniques have been developed for more efficient simulation of channel-coded transmission, but they typically rely on exploiting code weaknesses (for the generation of error-causing noise samples) and most works on soft-decision decoding only treat binary signaling. In this paper, we propose to use a function, termed the noise gauging function (NGF), that roughly measures the error-causing propensity of noise samples and we present a way to adaptively optimize the noise sampling under such a function for simulation efficiency. Both binary and nonbinary signalings are considered. And the proposed technique does not require detailed knowledge of the code weaknesses, although some high-level understanding of the code properties can benefit the design of efficient NGFs. We investigate the application of the proposed technique to several common channel codes. Numerical results indicate an approximately 10- to 1,000-fold speedup versus MC.

Generalized integrated interleaved (GII) error-correcting codes nest sub-codewords to form codewords of more powerful codes. They can achieve hyper-speed decoding with good error correction capability. For GII codes built on BCH codes, the first decoding stage is to decode individual BCH sub-words. This stage largely determines the throughput and dominates the area of the overall decoder. Unlike that in traditional BCH decoding, longer polynomials need to be kept in the key-equation solver (KES) step of the first stage in order to continue the KES step in the second-stage nested decoding of GII codes. To take advantage of the very fast storage class memories (SCMs), GII codes with 3-error-correcting BCH sub-codewords can be utilized. This brief proposes a low-complexity and high-speed design for the KES of 3-error-correcting BCH sub-word decoding. Formulas are developed to compute the KES results directly instead of utilizing the traditional iterative process. More importantly, through analyzing the properties of the involved variables, the coefficients are scaled and reformulated to substantially reduce the complexity. Detailed hardware implementation architectures are also developed in this brief. A novel method to recursively construct a set of precoded polar codes of various rates and short-to-moderate lengths is presented. The proposed code design method minimizes the successive cancellation (SC) decoding error probability estimate under three constraints. The first constraint is the minimum distance requirement to improve the maximum-likelihood (ML) performance of the resulting code and therefore the performance under the SC list (SCL) decoding. The other two constraints introduce preselected supercode and subcode, where the supercode ensures fast computation of the minimum distance and the subcode ensures reduction of the search space size. The supercode is given by the Plotkin sum of shorter codes, which are nested to simplify computation of low-weight codewords. These low-weight codewords are needed to satisfy the minimum distance constraint. The simulation results indicate that the proposed precoded polar codes of lengths 128 and 256 provide a better frame error rate (FER) than polar codes with CRC and e-BCH polar subcodes under the SCL decoding algorithm with the list size $8-128$. In the military surveillance and security information systems, correct blind reconstruction of signal parameters from unknown signals is very important. Especially, many blind reconstruction methods of error-correcting codes have been proposed, and their theoretical performance analysis is essential for both the defender who wants to prevent information leakage and the challenger who wants to extract information from the intercepted signals. However, a proper performance analysis of most blind reconstruction methods has not been performed yet. Among many blind reconstruction methods of BCH codes proposed so far, the blind reconstruction method based on consecutive roots of generator polynomials proposed by Jo, Kwon, and Shin, called the JKS method, shows the best performance under the unknown channel information. However, the performance of the JKS method is only evaluated through simulation without performing theoretical analysis. In this paper, the JKS method is asymptotically analyzed under the binary symmetric channel with the cross-over probability $p$ . Since the blind reconstruction performance heavily depends on how many and which received codewords are used even for the same channel environment, sufficiently many codewords are assumed to perform asymptotic analysis. More specifically, an asymptotic threshold on $p$ , up to which blind reconstruction is successful, is derived when the number of received codewords is sufficiently large, which can be used as a new performance metric for blind reconstruction methods. Finally, the validity of the asymptotic analysis is confirmed through simulation.

In this work, cyclic-skew-cyclic codes and sum-rank BCH codes are introduced. Cyclic-skew-cyclic codes are characterized as left ideals of a suitable non-commutative finite ring, constructed using skew polynomials on top of polynomials (or vice versa). Single generators of such left ideals are found, and they are used to construct generator matrices of the corresponding codes. The notion of defining set is introduced, using pairs of roots of skew polynomials on top of poynomials. A lower bound (called sum-rank BCH bound) on the minimum sum-rank distance is given for cyclic-skew-cyclic codes whose defining set contains certain consecutive pairs. Sum-rank BCH codes, with prescribed minimum sum-rank distance, are then defined as the largest cyclic-skew-cyclic codes whose defining set contains such consecutive pairs. The defining set of a sum-rank BCH code is described, and a lower bound on its dimension is obtained. Thanks to it, tables are provided showing that sum-rank BCH codes beat previously known codes for the sum-rank metric for binary $2 \times 2 $ matrices (i.e., codes whose codewords are lists of $2 \times 2 $ binary matrices, for a wide range of list lengths that correspond to the code length). Polar codes have drawn much research attention in the last ten years for their capacity-achieving property. However, their conventional successive cancellation decoding method performs not well at a short or moderate length. In order to improve the performance, concatenation with other error-correction codes has been proved an effective approach, whereas current concatenation schemes using rate-optimized method are too complex to implement with long decoding latency. In this paper, we propose a critical set protected BCH-Polar code with its corresponding decoding architecture. In the proposed concatenation scheme, we only provide extra protection to partial information bits in the critical set, which is constructed based on the channel reliability. For its corresponding decoding architecture, we redesign some components and adopt the Look-up table decoding method for BCH codes, resulting in much degradation of decoding latency. Compared with existing decoders, the hardware implementation shows low decoding latency and high throughput-area efficiency.

Quantum error correcting codes (QECCs) play an important role in preventing quantum information decoherence. Good quantum stabilizer codes were constructed by classical error correcting codes. In this paper, Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes over finite fields are used to construct quantum codes. First, we try to find such classical BCH codes, which contain their dual codes, by studying the suitable cyclotomic cosets. Then, we construct nonbinary quantum BCH codes with given parameter sets. Finally, a new family of quantum BCH codes can be realized by Steane’s enlargement of nonbinary Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction and Hermitian construction. We have proven that the cyclotomic cosets are good tools to study quantum BCH codes. The defining sets contain the highest numbers of consecutive integers. Compared with the results in the references, the new quantum BCH codes have better code parameters without restrictions and better lower bounds on minimum distances. What is more, the new quantum codes can be constructed over any finite fields, which enlarges the range of quantum BCH codes.
