Simple Summary: The genus Diploderma Hallowell, 1861 (Squamata, Agamidae), currently consists of 46 species, which are distributed across East Asia (inclusive of Japan) and the northern part of the Indochinese Peninsula, primarily inhabiting dry valley regions in Western China. This article introduces a novel species of Diploderma based on its unique morphological features and molecular evidence, discovered in the lower valley of the Dadu River in Sichuan Province, Western China. Phylogenetic analysis using ND2 data suggests that this new taxon is distinct from its congeners. Morphologically, the new species can be differentiated from other Diploderma species by an assemblage of 46 specific characteristics. Principal component analysis (PCA) further demonstrates that this new species is clearly distinguishable from its closest relative, D. splendidum. Given these multiple lines of evidence, we describe this species from the lower Dadu River valley as a newly identified species, D. daduense sp. nov. This discovery brings the total number of recognized species within the genus Diploderma to 47. D. daduense sp. nov. can be distinguished from its congeners by its tympanum concealed; head mainly green-yellow, supplemented by black; skin folds under the nuchal and dorsal crest obviously present in adult males only, its vertebral crest discontinuous between nuchal and dorsal sections with a distinct gap; transverse gular fold present but not obvious in some individuals; gular spot absent in both sexes; dorsolateral stripes green-yellow anteriorly, cyan in the center and blurry off-white posteriorly in adult males, the upper edge of dorsolateral stripes strongly jagged in adult males; no radial stripes around the eyes; inner-lip coloration smoky-white, and the coloration of the tongue and oral cavity as a light-flesh color in life; bright green-yellow transverse stripes on dorsal body in males; black patches are evenly distributed along the vertebral line between the dorsolateral stripes from the neck to the base of the tail in males; beech-brown or gray-brown line along the vertebral line with heart-shaped or diamond-shaped black patches on the dorsal body in females; and supratemporals fewer than four on at least one side. The phylogenetic tree based on mitochondrial ND2 sequences indicates that D. daduense sp. nov. forms an independent clade with strong support 1/100 in ML bootstrap/Bayesian posterior probability and is the sister group to D. splendidum. At the inter-species level, the p-distance is at least 6.95%, further confirming that an independent species had been identified. Chlorophyll is a vital indicator of vegetation growth; exploring its relationship with external influencing factors is essential for studies such as chlorophyll remote sensing retrieval and vegetation growth monitoring. However, there has been limited in-depth exploration of the spatial distribution of leaf chlorophyll content (LCC) and its influencing factors across large-scale areas with varying climates and terrains. To investigate the primary influencing factors and degrees of various environmental factors on LCC, this study employed the Geodetector Model (GDM) and the LCC satellite products in Sichuan Province in 2020 to investigate the impact of relationships between nine environmental factors (meteorology, topography, and vegetation types) and the ecosystem LCC at a regional scale. The results indicated the following: (1) Elevation (q-value = 49.31%) is the primary factor determining photosynthesis in Sichuan Province, followed by temperature (46.10%) and vegetation types (40.73%). The impact of topographical factors on LCC distribution is higher than that of meteorological factors and vegetation types in terrain with complex topography. The elevation effectively distinguishes the variations in climate factors and vegetation types. (2) Combining the influencing factors pairwise increased the combined q-values. The combination of elevation with other factors yielded the highest combined q-value. (3) The q-values for all influencing factors are higher in winter and spring and lowest in summer. Different influencing factors exhibited more substantial constraints on vegetation photosynthesis during winter and spring, significantly reducing influence during summer. (4) The different primary factors drive or constrain vegetation photosynthesis in different climate zones due to their distinct temperature and humidity characteristics. Simple Summary: To screen and identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with geese meat quality traits, we performed genome-wide association study (GWAS) in a population of male Sichuan white geese (a Chinese local breed) at 70 days old to screen the SNPs in the goose genome. Additionally, genotypes of the selected SNPs associated with goose meat were detected using the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOP MS) method. The results revealed 43 SNPs that showed potentially significant associations with these traits. Additionally, we detected 28 annotated genes as potential candidate genes for the five meat quality traits. The enrichment analysis of genes within a 1Mb vicinity of SNPs showed potentially significant enrichment in the protein digestion and absorption pathway, as well as the Glycolipid metabolism pathway. The findings of this study offer novel genetic markers and candidate genes that can be used for marker-assisted selection of geese, laying the groundwork for understanding the genetic basis of goose meat quality traits and establishing a foundation for comprehending their genetic basis. (1) Background: Goose meat is highly valued for its economic significance and vast market potential due to its desirable qualities, including a rich nutritional profile, tender texture, relatively low-fat content, and high levels of beneficial unsaturated fatty acids. However, there is an urgent need to improve goose breeding by identifying molecular markers associated with meat quality. (2) Methods: We evaluated meat quality traits, such as meat color, shear force (SF), cooking loss rate (CLR), and crude fat content (CFC), in a population of 215 male Sichuan white geese at 70 days of age. A GWAS was performed to identify potential molecular markers associated with goose meat quality. Furthermore, the selected SNPs linked to meat quality traits were genotyped using the MALDI-TOP MS method. (3) Results: A dataset of 2601.19 Gb of WGS data was obtained from 215 individuals, with an average sequencing depth of 10.89×. The GWAS revealed the identification of 43 potentially significant SNP markers associated with meat quality traits in the Sichuan white goose population. Additionally, 28 genes were identified as important candidate genes for meat quality. The gene enrichment analysis indicated a substantial enrichment of genes within a 1Mb vicinity of SNPs in both the protein digestion and absorption pathway and the Glycerolipid metabolism pathway. There are various styles of faults, folds, and unconformity structures in the southwestern Sichuan Basin, which have an important impact on hydrocarbon preservation. Based on the data of regional geological, seismic, formation water characteristics, caprock characteristics, and production, the hydrocarbon preservation conditions of the key horizons (Cambrian, Upper Permian, and Triassic) were analyzed. Southwestern Sichuan Basin margin structure has two obvious tectonic layers (the upper and lower). The upper tectonic layer is dominated by Middle Triassic detachment faults and derived thrust faults, while the lower tectonic layer has concealed structures composed of basement detachment faults and derived thrust faults. There are mainly NE, near-SN, NW, and near-EW faults. The outcrops are in the Middle-Cenozoic strata, changing from old to new from outside the Basin to inside the Basin. There are three main sets of high-quality caprocks, i.e., the mudstone of the bottom of the Xujiahe Formation, the gypsum-salt rocks of the Middle-Lower Triassic, and the Lower Cambrian mudstone. Based on the faults, outcrops, formation water type, mineralization, and caprock characteristics, the hydrocarbon preservation evaluation system was established, which divides into the areas of Class I, II, and III. The distribution range of the favorable areas of different horizons has good inheritance, and the hydrocarbon preservation conditions gradually improve from outside the basin to inside the basin. Class I favorable areas are the most widely distributed and are mainly located within the basin, with the characteristics of a low degree of fault development, relatively new outcropping strata, CaCl2 formation water type, and large caprock thickness. This study investigated drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in the Yi ethnic group. The study was designed to identify risk factors for DR-TB and its relationship with HIV/AIDS. To establish the resistance to antituberculosis drugs, whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was performed using culture-positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis samples collected from people of the Yi ethnic group from March 2019 to March 2021. Baseline characteristics were obtained from China's tuberculosis surveillance system. A total of 116 M. tuberculosis strains were included in the final analysis. Lineage 2.2 (75.86%) was the dominant sublineage, followed by lineage 4.5 (18.97%) and lineage 4.4 (5.17%). The rates of rifampicin-resistant (RR-TB), multidrug-resistant (MDR-TB), and preextensively drug-resistant TB (pre-XDR-TB) were 18.97%, 10.34%, and 6.03%, respectively. Drug-resistant strains were not found in the elderly (age ≥ 65 years). The proportions of RR/MDR-TB and pre-XDR-TB cases among re-treatment patients were higher than those among new patients ( χ 2 = 12.155 , P = 0.003 ; χ 2 = 22.495 , P = 0.001 , respectively). The pre-XDR-TB case proportions were higher among female patients than among males and higher among referred patients ( χ 2 = 5.456 , P = 0.032 ; χ 2 = 15.134 , P = 0.002 , respectively). The rates of RR/MDR-TB and pre-XDR-TB did not differ appreciably among groups with different HIV infection statuses nor lineage populations. DR-TB poses a serious challenge to the Yi ethnic group. Re-treatment patients, women, and referred patients were at high risk of MDR/RR-TB or pre-XDR-TB while HIV and lineage 2 had negligible association with drug resistance. Obstructive sleep apnea hypoventilation syndrome (OSAHS) is a common sleep breathing disorder closely associated with cardiovascular disease. However, the respiratory sleep and related cardiovascular parameters on the apnea and hypopnea index (AHI) and life quality of primary snoring are unclear. We launched a cohort study focused on the association between respiratory sleep and cardiovascular-related parameters and apnea and hypopnea index, incorporating data from 218 patients with primary snoring in our medical center between Jun 1, 2015, and Apr 1, 2016. Thirty patients from Sichuan Cancer Hospital were used for validation. Patients with longer apnea time were more likely to progress to higher AHI (> 30) than controls (OR = 5.66, 95% CI = [2.79, 11.97], p < 0.001). Similarly, if patients have a higher value of diastolic blood pressure, they will also have a higher AHI (> 30) (HR [95% CI] = 3.42 [1.14, 13.65], p = 0.043). According to multivariate analysis, longest apnea time, the mean percentage of SaO2, and neckline length were independent risk factors of overall survival. A predictive model developed based on these factors above yielded a favorable agreement (C-index = 0.872) on the calibration curve. Thirty patients conducted external validation from Sichuan Cancer Hospital, displaying an AUC of 0.833 (0.782–0.884). Increased diastolic blood pressure and apnea time affect AHI level. Background: Poor air quality can result in a variety of respiratory disorders. However, the air quality index (AQI) and the level of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on the progression and prognosis of nonsmall‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are unclear. Methods: We launched a cohort study focused on the relationship between air quality and overall survival as well as progression, incorporating data from 590 patients with NSCLC in our medical center between November 1, 2013 and March 1, 2016. Forty‐nine patients from Sichuan Cancer Hospital were used for validation. Results: Cases with poorer AQI 6 months before NSCLC diagnosis were more likely to progress to stage III to IV NSCLC than controls (OR = 2.61, 95% CI 1.35–5.24, p = 0.005). Similarly, if exposed to high levels of PM2.5 during these 6 months, overall survival was poor (HR [95% CI] = 1.53 [1.13, 2.07], p = 0.006). According to multivariate analysis, age, gender, KPS, PM2.5, hyperlipemia, and NSCLC stage were independent risk factors of overall survival. A predictive model developed by these factors above yielded a favorable agreement (C‐index = 0.758) on the calibration curve. External validation was conducted by 46 patients from Sichuan Cancer Hospital displaying an AUC of 0.724 (0.684–0.763). Conclusions: PM2.5 and AQI levels affect disease progression and long‐term survival in NSCLC patients. The Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the southern Sichuan Basin is composed of a series of dark carbonaceous shales deposited in a hydrostatic shelf reduction environment. In this study, the ratio of uranium to thorium (U/Th), the total organic carbon (TOC), and the biological silicon content (SiBio) were selected as the characteristic parameters to precisely analyze the sedimentary environment and its impact on reservoir quality. The results show that the Weiyuan area in the Early Silurian Longmaxi period experienced two transgression-regression cycles, forming two third-class sequences, SSQ1 and SSQ2, which can be divided into six sedimentary microfacies: organic-rich siliceous argillaceous shelf, organic-rich silicon-containing argillaceous shelf, organic-rich silty argillaceous shelf, deep-water silty argillaceous shelf, shallow-water silty argillaceous shelf, and shallow-water argillaceous silty shelf microfacies. The organic-rich siliceous argillaceous shelf and organic-rich silicon-containing argillaceous shelf microfacies developed in the deepest transgressive system tract (TST1), with high U/Th, high TOC, and high SiBio, which are identified as the main control facies for reservoir development. These two microfacies are located in the middle of the study area, while a transition occurs in the east affected by the Neijiang Uplift. According to the classification criteria proposed in this article, the favourable shale gas reservoirs in Weiyuan area are characterized with high U/Th (>1.25), high TOC (>3%), and high SiBio (>15%). This paper proposed an evaluation method for shale sedimentary facies based on elemental and electrical logging characteristics, avoiding the limitations of core samples, which makes the quantitative division of shale sediments and the efficient recognition of high-quality reservoirs available. Owing to multiple tectonic events after the Late Triassic, the northern segment of the western Sichuan depression (NSWSCD) has a complex geological history of significant uplift and deeply buried. With abundant oil and gas play in the NSWSCD, the study of paleo-oil reservoir systems and early hydrocarbon accumulation in this area is of great significance for deep marine hydrocarbon distribution prediction in complex structural settings. Analysis on the northern section of the Mianyang-Changning Intracratonic Sag (MY-CN IS) and the Tianjingshan Paleouplift (TJS PU), the two Early Paleozoic tectonic units are laterally superimposed. Combined the reservoir bitumen of the Sinian Dengying Fm firstly, the biomarker (TT23/tT24, S21/S22, etc.) and Organic δ13C (lighter than 30‰) characteristics indicate that the Sinian-Jurassic paleo-oil system in the TJS PU area is the main source of Lower Cambrian organic-rich black shale. This is closely related to the superimposition and combination effects of the intracratonic sag and paleouplift. Therefore, this study establishes a geological-geochemical accumulation model through a combination of R o and fluid inclusion data. The No. 1 fault is an important zoning fault in the NSWSCD, which significantly controls the division of the oil-gas zone. The process of paleo-oil reservoir destroyed directly only exists in the frontal deformation zone. The deep marine strata of the eastern No. 1 fault demonstrate the four-center hydrocarbon accumulation processes, which include oil generation, gas generation, gas storage, and gas preservation. Objective: Vitamin D plays an important role in bone and mineral metabolism. Ultraviolet B (UVB) is the primary determinant for vitamin D synthesis. However, population-based data of vitamin D status was sparse in areas with sunlight deprivation in China. This study aimed to assess serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels among adult women in Sichuan basin with the lowest sunlight radiation in China, and the associations with sunlight exposure and age. Methods: In the context of the same ethnicity, similar latitude and lifestyle in sunlight-limited basin and sunlight-abundant plateau, 1,057 women in basin and 337 in plateau aged 29–95 years were included in this study, from November 2012 to February 2013. Daily sunlight exposure duration of previous month was obtained using questionnaires. Serum 25(OH)D was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: The prevalence of vitamin D severe deficiency [25(OH)D <30 nmol/L] and deficiency [30 ≤ 25(OH)D <50 nmol/L] was significantly higher in basin than plateau (21.85% vs. 10.09%, and 59.32% vs. 40.36%; P <0.0001). Women from basin exhibited lower serum 25(OH)D levels than those from plateau (40.66 ± 15.62 vs. 52.54 ± 19.94 nmol/L, P <0.0001). In basin, women more than 50 years old had higher 25(OH)D than younger counterparts, and 25(OH)D level of these groups was not associated with sunlight exposure duration. While in plateau, women younger than 60 years old had higher 25(OH)D than the older women. Furthermore, for those younger groups, women with long sunlight exposure (≥3 h daily) had higher 25(OH)D concentration than those with short sunlight exposure (<3 h daily). Serum PTH was negatively associated with 25(OH)D in basin, but not in plateau. Conclusions: Alarmingly high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was observed in women in sunlight-deprived basin in Sichuan. Only the vitamin D status of younger women from plateau with adequate solar radiation could benefit from sunlight exposure. Vitamin D supplementation and vitamin D-fortified food should be encouraged to improve vitamin D status for women living in sunlight-limited areas, or with old age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fine particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters ≤2.5 µ m (PM 2.5) has adverse effects on human health and the atmospheric environment. The estimation of surface PM 2.5 concentrations has made intensive use of satellite-derived aerosol products. However, it has been a great challenge to obtain high-quality and high-resolution PM 2.5 data from both ground and satellite observations, which is essential to monitor air pollution over small-scale areas such as metropolitan regions. Here, the space–time extremely randomized trees (STET) model was enhanced by integrating updated spatiotemporal information and additional auxiliary data to improve the spatial resolution and overall accuracy of PM 2.5 estimates across China. To this end, the newly released Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction AOD product, along with meteorological, topographical and land-use data and pollution emissions, was input to the STET model, and daily 1 km PM 2.5 maps for 2018 covering mainland China were produced. The STET model performed well, with a high out-of-sample (out-of-station) cross-validation coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.89 (0.88), a low root-mean-square error of 10.33 (10.93) µ g m -3 , a small mean absolute error of 6.69 (7.15) µ g m -3 and a small mean relative error of 21.28 % (23.69 %). In particular, the model captured well the PM 2.5 concentrations at both regional and individual site scales. The North China Plain, the Sichuan Basin and Xinjiang Province always featured high PM 2.5 pollution levels, especially in winter. The STET model outperformed most models presented in previous related studies, with a strong predictive power (e.g., monthly R2=0.80), which can be used to estimate historical PM 2.5 records. More importantly, this study provides a new approach for obtaining high-resolution and high-quality PM 2.5 dataset across mainland China (i.e., ChinaHighPM 2.5), important for air pollution studies focused on urban areas. Background: Modern breeding in the poultry industry mainly aims to produce high-performance poultry lines and breeds in two main directions of productivity, meat and eggs. To understand more about the productive potential of lowly selected Chinese native chicken populations, we selected 14 representative SNP markers strongly associated with growth traits or carcass traits and 14 SNP markers strongly associated with egg laying traits through previous reports. By using the MassArray technology, we detected the genotype frequency distributions of these 28 SNP markers in seven populations including four lowly selected as well as one moderately selected Sichuan native chicken populations, one commercial broiler line and one commercial layer line. Results: Based on the genotype frequency distributions of these 28 SNP markers in 5 native chicken populations and 2 commercial lines, the results suggested that these Chinese indigenous chicken populations have a relatively close relationship with the commercial broiler line but a marked distinction from the commercial layer line. Two native chicken breeds, Shimian Caoke Chicken and Daheng Broilers, share similar genetic structure with the broiler line. Conclusions: Our observations may help us to better select and breed superior domestic chickens and provide new clues for further study of breeding programs in local chicken populations. Background: As one of the most important food crops in the world, increasing wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) yield is an urgent task for global food security under the continuous threat of stripe rust (caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici) in many regions of the world. Molecular marker-assisted breeding is one of the most efficient ways to increase yield. Here, we identified loci associated to multi-environmental yield-related traits under stripe rust stress in 244 wheat accessions from Sichuan Province through genome-wide association study (GWAS) using 44,059 polymorphic markers from the 55 K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chip. Results: A total of 13 stable quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were found to be highly associating to yield-related traits, including 6 for spike length (SL), 3 for thousand-kernel weight (TKW), 2 for kernel weight per spike (KWPS), and 2 for both TKW and KWPS, in at least two test environments under stripe rust stress conditions. Of them, ten QTLs were overlapped or very close to the reported QTLs, three QTLs, QSL.sicau-1AL, QTKW.sicau-4AL, and QKWPS.sicau-4AL.1, were potentially novel through the physical location comparison with previous QTLs. Further, 21 candidate genes within three potentially novel QTLs were identified, they were mainly involved in the regulation of phytohormone, cell division and proliferation, meristem development, plant or organ development, and carbohydrate transport. Conclusions: QTLs and candidate genes detected in our study for yield-related traits under stripe rust stress will facilitate elucidating genetic basis of yield-related trait and could be used in marker-assisted selection in wheat yield breeding. Biomass burning (BB) seriously affect air pollution, human health and global climate. A severe pollution episode (PE) caused by BB was investigated in the southern Sichuan Basin (SSB), one of the most polluted areas in China. Hourly variations in criteria air pollutants (PM 2.5 , PM 10 , SO 2 , NO 2 , CO, and O 3), chemical components, and sources of PM 2.5 before, during, and after the severe regional air PE were characterized at three sites, namely Neijiang (NJ), Zigong (ZG), and Yibin (YB). The results showed that combination of intensive pollution from BB, stable meteorological conditions, and the basin topography caused this severe regional PE in the SSB. The average daily concentrations of PM 2.5 during the PE were 1.8–6 times those measured during the periods before and after the PE, and 4.0–7.4 times that of World Health Organization air quality guidelines in the SSB. The highest PM levels occurred in ZG, where the peak values of PM 2.5 and PM 10 reached 536 μg m−3 and 578 μg m−3 at night, respectively. PM 10 , NO 2 , and CO also increased dramatically at night in the SSB. O 3 formation was affected by BB, showing lower levels at night but higher levels in the day during the PE than before and after the PE, whereas SO 2 levels were not affected. Sulfate–nitrate–ammonium in PM 2.5 was the main chemical compositions before the PE, whereas organic matter (OM) and K+ became characteristics compositions during and after the PE. Higher OC/EC and K excess /EC ratios were observed during the PE and K excess /EC ratio was a better indicator of BB in the SSB than OC/EC ratio. The results of a positive matrix factorization model indicated that BB was the most significant contributor to PM 2.5 during the PE, accounting for 58% in NJ, 65% in ZG, and 56% in YB. Backward trajectory analysis confirmed that the SSB is susceptible to pollutants from Chongqing and other surrounding cities, especially in ZG and NJ, due to the unique topography of the basin. Our findings suggest that BB in the basin topography can cause severe regional air pollution events at night, thus supporting the critical need for BB control in the basin to improve regional air quality.
