The research groups in computer vision, graphics, and machine learning have dedicated a substantial amount of attention to the areas of 3D object reconstruction, augmentation, and registration. Deep learning is the predominant method used in artificial intelligence for addressing computer vision challenges. However, deep learning on three-dimensional data presents distinct obstacles and is now in its nascent phase. There have been significant advancements in deep learning specifically for three-dimensional data, offering a range of ways to address these issues. This study offers a comprehensive examination of the latest advancements in deep learning methodologies. We examine many benchmark models for the tasks of 3D object registration, augmentation, and reconstruction. We thoroughly analyse their architectures, advantages, and constraints. In summary, this report provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in three-dimensional deep learning and highlights unresolved research areas that will need to be addressed in the future. Herein, the challenge of accurately classifying the manufacturing origin of printing paper, including continent, country, and specific product, was addressed. One-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) models trained on infrared (IR) spectrum data acquired from printing paper samples were used for the task. The preprocessing of the IR spectra through a second-derivative transformation and the restriction of the spectral range to 1800 to 1200 cm-1 improved the classification performance of the model. The outcomes were highly promising. Models trained on second-derivative IR spectra in the 1800 to 1200-cm-1 range exhibited perfect classification for the manufacturing continent and country, with an impressive F1 score of 0.980 for product classification. Notably, the developed 1D CNN model outperformed traditional machine learning classifiers, such as support vector machines and feed-forward neural networks. In addition, the application of data point attribution enhanced the transparency of the decision-making process of the model, offering insights into the spectral patterns that affect classification. Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) have been widely used in point-of-care testing owing to their simple operation, low volume of the sample required, and the lack of the need for an external force. To obtain accurate semi-quantitative or quantitative results, μPADs need to respond to the challenges posed by differences in reaction conditions. In this paper, multi-layer μPADs are fabricated by the imprinting method for the colorimetric detection of C-reactive protein (CRP). Different lighting conditions and shooting angles of scenes are simulated in image acquisition, and the detection-related performance of μPADs is improved by using a machine learning algorithm. The You Only Look Once (YOLO) model is used to identify the areas of reaction in μPADs. This model can observe an image only once to predict the objects present in it and their locations. The YOLO model trained in this study was able to identify all the reaction areas quickly without incurring any error. These reaction areas were categorized by classification algorithms to determine the risk level of CRP concentration. Multi-layer perceptron, convolutional neural network, and residual network algorithms were used for the classification tasks, where the latter yielded the highest accuracy of 96%. We have developed a novel 3D asynchronous correlation method (3D-ACM) designed for the classification and identification of Chinese handmade paper samples using Raman spectra and machine learning. The 3D-ACM approach involves two rounds of tensor product and Hilbert transform operations. In the tensor product process, the outer product of the spectral data from different samples within the same category is computed, establishing inner connections among all samples within that category. The Hilbert transform introduces a 90-degree phase shift, resulting in a true three-dimensional spectral data structure. This expansion significantly increases the number of equivalent frequency points and samples within each category. This enhancement substantially boosts spectral resolution and reveals more hidden information within the spectral data. To maximize the potential of 3D-ACM, we employed six machine learning models: principal component analysis (PCA) with linear regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM) with LR, k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), random forest (RF), and convolutional neural network (CNN). When applied to the 3D-ACM data preprocessing method, R-squared values of PLS-LR, KNN, RF and CNN supervised models, approached or equaled 1. This indicates exceptional performance comparable to unsupervised models like PCA. 3D-ACM stands as a versatile mathematical technique not confined to spectral data. It also eliminates the necessity for additional experimental setups or external control conditions, distinct from traditional two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy. The paper focuses on two kinds of rotating machinery, miniature table drilling machine and automobile engine, as the research object. Traditional machine learning has the need for manual feature extraction, and is very dependent on expert diagnostic experience and expertise, but also has the disadvantages of low accuracy, low timeliness, low efficiency, etc. For the traditional rotating machinery fault diagnosis method is more based on the traditional machine learning model, this paper puts forward a one-dimensional convolutional neural network-based fault identification method. According to the characteristics of the miniature table drilling machine and the automobile engine which are not detachable, the corresponding faults are set up respectively, Vibration signals of the attitude sensor are obtained by using the signal collector, and the collected data are preprocessed, then the CNN model is built for fault identification, and the network structure is constantly optimized to obtain the optimal network model with high accuracy (up to 100 %) and robustness. The results show that the one-dimensional convolutional neural network model improves the fault recognition accuracy and reduces the cost compared with the traditional machine learning SVM model when the original signal is used as the input signal. With the continuous development of automotive intelligence, vehicle occupant detection technology has received increasing attention. Despite various types of research in this field, a simple, reliable, and highly private detection method is lacking. This paper proposes a method for vehicle occupant detection using millimeter-wave radar. Specifically, the paper outlines the system design for vehicle occupant detection using millimeter-wave radar. By collecting the raw signals of FMCW radar and applying Range-FFT and DoA estimation algorithms, a range–azimuth heatmap was generated, visually depicting the current status of people inside the vehicle. Furthermore, utilizing the collected range–azimuth heatmap of passengers, this paper integrates the Faster R-CNN deep learning networks with radar signal processing to identify passenger information. Finally, to test the performance of the detection method proposed in this article, an experimental verification was conducted in a car and the results were compared with those of traditional machine learning algorithms. Incorporating style-related objectives into shape design has been centrally important to maximize product appeal. However, algorithmic style capture and reuse have not fully benefited from automated data-driven methodologies due to the challenging nature of design describability. This paper proposes an AI-driven method to fully automate the discovery of brand-related features. First, to tackle the scarcity of vectorized product images, this research proposes two data acquisition workflows: parametric modeling from small curve-based datasets, and vectorization from large pixel-based datasets. Second, this study constructs BIGNet, a two-tier Brand Identification Graph Neural Network, to learn from both scalar vector graphics' curve-level and chunk-level parameters. In the first case study, BIGNet not only classifies phone brands but also captures brand-related features across multiple scales, such as lens' location, as confirmed by AI evaluation. In the second study, this paper showcases the generalizability of BIGNet learning from a vectorized car image dataset and validates the consistency and robustness of its predictions given four scenarios. The results match the difference commonly observed in luxury versus economy brands in the automobile market. Finally, this paper also visualizes the activation maps generated from a convolutional neural network and shows BIGNet's advantage of being a more explainable style-capturing agent. This paper investigates a method for precise mapping of human arm movements using sEMG signals. A multi-channel approach captures the sEMG signals, which, combined with the accurately calculated joint angles from an Inertial Measurement Unit, allows for action recognition and mapping through deep learning algorithms. Firstly, signal acquisition and processing were carried out, which involved acquiring data from various movements (hand gestures, single-degree-of-freedom joint movements, and continuous joint actions) and sensor placement. Then, interference signals were filtered out through filters, and the signals were preprocessed using normalization and moving averages to obtain sEMG signals with obvious features. Additionally, this paper constructs a hybrid network model, combining Convolutional Neural Networks and Artificial Neural Networks, and employs a multi-feature fusion algorithm to enhance the accuracy of gesture recognition. Furthermore, a nonlinear fitting between sEMG signals and joint angles was established based on a backpropagation neural network, incorporating momentum term and adaptive learning rate adjustments. Finally, based on the gesture recognition and joint angle prediction model, prosthetic arm control experiments were conducted, achieving highly accurate arm movement prediction and execution. This paper not only validates the potential application of sEMG signals in the precise control of robotic arms but also lays a solid foundation for the development of more intuitive and responsive prostheses and assistive devices. The increasing availability of hydrological and physiographic spatiotemporal data has boosted machine learning's role in rapid flood mapping. Yet, data scarcity, especially high-resolution DEMs, challenges regions with limited access. This paper examines how DEM type and resolution affect flood prediction accuracy, utilizing a cutting-edge deep learning (DL) method called 1D convolutional neural network (CNN). It utilizes synthetic hydrographs as training input and water depth data obtained from LISFLOOD-FP, a 2D hydrodynamic model, as target data. This study investigates digital surface models (DSMs) and digital terrain models (DTMs) derived from a 1 m LIDAR-based DTM, with resolutions from 15 to 30 m. The methodology is applied and assessed in a established benchmark, city of Carlisle, UK. The models' performance is then evaluated and compared against an observed flood event using RMSE, Bias, and Fit indices. Leveraging the insights gained from this region, the paper discusses the applicability of the methodology to address the challenges encountered in a data-scarce flood-prone region, exemplified by Pakistan. Results indicated that utilizing a 30 m DTM outperformed a 30 m DSM in terms of flood depth prediction accuracy by about 21% during the flood peak stage, highlighting the superior performance of DTM at lower resolutions. Increasing the resolution of DTM to 15 m resulted in a minimum 50% increase in RMSE and a 20% increase in fit index across all flood stages. The findings emphasize that while a coarser resolution DEM may impact the accuracy of machine learning models, it remains a viable option for rapid flood prediction. Combining the advantages of quantum computing and machine learning, quantum machine learning is anticipated to advance the field of artificial intelligence further. Recent research has demonstrated, however, that the state-of-the-art quantum classifiers can be deceived by adversarial examples, leading to incorrect classifications by quantum models. This paper proposes the quantum fuzzy convolutional neural network, which is used to detect adversarial examples, by combining the benefits of fuzzy systems and the quantum convolutional neural network. This defensive strategy does not modify the structure and training process of the quantum classifier that requires protection. Simulation experiments show that the adversarial example detection approach proposed in this paper can successfully separate the real data distribution from the adversarial data distribution and detect the adversarial examples generated by a specific attack method on a specific quantum classifier. Recent research has revealed that subtle imperceptible perturbations can deceive well-trained neural network models, leading to inaccurate outcomes. These instances, known as adversarial examples, pose significant threats to the secure application of machine learning techniques in safety-critical systems. In this paper, we delve into the study of one-pixel attacks in deep neural networks, recently reported as a kind of adversarial examples. To identify such one-pixel attacks, most existing methodologies rely on the differential evolution method, which utilizes random selection from the current population to escape local optima. However, the differential evolution technique might waste search time and overlook good solutions if the number of iterations is insufficient. Hence, in this paper, we propose a gradient ascent with momentum approach to efficiently discover good solutions for the one-pixel attack problem. As our method takes a more direct route to the goal compared to existing methods relying on blind random walks, it can effectively identify one-pixel attacks. Intelligent fault diagnosis utilizing deep learning algorithms is currently a topic of great interest. When developing a new Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture to address machine diagnosis problem, it is common to use a deep model, with many layers, many feature maps, and large kernels. These models are capable of learning complex relationships and can potentially achieve superior performance on test data. However, not only does a large network potentially impose undue computational complexity for training and eventual deployment, it may also lead to more brittleness—where data outside of the curated dataset used in CNN training and evaluation is poorly handled. Accordingly, this paper will investigate a methodical approach for identifying a quasi-optimal CNN architecture to maximize robustness when a model is trained under one set of operating conditions, and deployed under a different set of conditions. Optuna software will be used to optimize a baseline CNN model for robustness to different rotational speeds and bearing Model #'s. To further improve the network generalization capabilities, this paper proposes the addition of white Gaussian noise to the raw vibration training data. Results indicate that the number of trainable weights and associated multiplications in the optimized model were reduced by almost 95% without jeopardizing the network classification accuracy. For insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) modules using wire bonding as the interconnection method, the main failure mechanism is cracking of the bonded interface. Studying the mechanical properties of the bonded interface is crucial for assessing the reliability of IGBT modules. In this paper, first, shear tests are conducted on the bonded interface to test the bonded interface's strength. Then, finite element–cohesive zone modeling (FE-CZM) is established to describe the mechanical behavior of the bonded interface. A novel machine learning (ML) architecture integrating a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory (LSTM) network is used to identify the shape and parameters of the traction separation law (TSL) of the FE-CZM model accurately and efficiently. The CNN-LSTM architecture not only has excellent feature extraction and sequence-data-processing abilities but can also effectively address the long-term dependency problem. A total of 1800 sets of datasets are obtained based on numerical computations, and the CNN-LSTM architecture is trained with load–displacement (F–δ) curves as input parameters and TSL shapes and parameters as output parameters. The results show that the error rate of the model for TSL shape prediction is only 0.186%. The performance metric's mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) is less than 3.5044% for all the predictions of the TSL parameters. Compared with separate CNN and LSTM architectures, the proposed CNN-LSTM-architecture approach exhibits obvious advantages in recognizing TSL shapes and parameters. A combination of the FE-CZM and ML methods in this paper provides a promising and effective solution for identifying the mechanical parameters of the bonded interfaces of IGBT modules. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the utilization of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in learning models that address the nonlinear anisotropic flow and hysteresis retention behavior of deformable porous materials. Herein, the micro‐geometries of various networks of porous Bentheimer Sandstones subjected to several degrees of strain from the literature are considered. For the generation of the database required for the training, validation, and testing of the machine learning (ML) models, single‐phase and biphasic lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations are performed. The anisotropic nature of the intrinsic permeability is investigated for the single‐phase LB simulations. Thereafter, the database contains the computed average fluid velocities versus the pressure gradients. In this database, the range of applied fluid pressure gradients includes Darcy as well as non‐Darcy flows. The generated output from the single‐phase flow simulations is implemented in a feed‐forward neural network, representing a path‐independent informed graph‐based model. Concerning the two‐phase LB simulations, the Shan‐Chen multiphase LB model is used to generate the retention curves of the cyclic drying/wetting processes in the deformed porous networks. Consequently, two different ML path‐dependent approaches, that is, 1D convolutional neural network and the recurrent neural network, are used to model the biphasic flow through the deformable porous materials. A comparison in terms of accuracy and speed of training between the two approaches is presented. Conclusively, the outcomes of the papers show the capability of the ML models in representing constitutive relations for permeability and hysteretic retention curves accurately and efficiently. Under the premise of ensuring the safe and stable operation of a wind–thermal–storage power system, this paper proposes an optimization model aimed at improving its overall economic efficiency and effectively reducing the peak-to-valley load difference. The model transforms the multi-objective optimization problem to solve a feasible interval of weight coefficients. We introduce a novel fusion model, where a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is melded with a Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) to form the target network structure. Additionally, for datasets with limited samples, we incorporate a Self-Attention Mechanism (SAM) into the Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML). Ultimately, we build an MAML-SAM-CNN-LSTM network model to solve the interval of weight coefficients. An arithmetic validation of a modified IEEE 30-node system demonstrates that the MAML-SAM-CNN-LSTM network proposed in this paper can adeptly solve the feasible intervals of weight coefficients in the optimization model of the wind-thermal storage system. This is achieved under the constraints of the specified wind-thermal storage power system operation indexes. The evaluation indexes of the network model, including its accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, all exceed 98.72%, 98.57%, 98.30%, and 98.57%, respectively. This denotes a superior performance compared to the other three network models, offering an effective reference for optimizing decision-making and facilitating the enhanced realization of multi-objective, on-demand scheduling in the wind-thermal storage power system. Automated and accurate detection of power quality (PQ) events is important from the point of view of safety as well as maintaining the reliability of the power transmission and distribution network. However, detection of multiple PQ events in a noisy environment is challenging task. Another important issue is the choice of meaningful features that can directly influence the accuracy of PQ detection. Considering these two aforesaid facts, this paper presents a novel framework for automated classification of PQ signals in a noisy environment employing cross Stockwell Transform (XST). The XST proposed in this paper has better noise suppression capability compared to conventional Stockwell Transform. Here, XST was used to convert 1D PQ signals to 2D time–frequency (T–F) images. To improve the accuracy of PQ detection, an automated feature extraction method employing deep learning is implemented in this work. The noise free T–F images obtained using XST were fed as inputs to several pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for deep feature extraction. Transfer learning technique was implemented to reduce the computational cost. The extracted deep features were further undergone selection using one-way analysis of variance test followed by false discovery rate correction. The statistically significant deep features were subsequently fed to three benchmark machine learning classifiers for classification of PQ signals. In addition, tests were also carried out on real-life PQ signals to verify the practicability of the proposed framework. The main purpose of this paper is to provide information on how to create a convolutional neural network (CNN) for extracting features from EEG signals. Our task was to understand the primary aspects of creating and fine-tuning CNNs for various application scenarios. We considered the characteristics of EEG signals, coupled with an exploration of various signal processing and data preparation techniques. These techniques include noise reduction, filtering, encoding, decoding, and dimension reduction, among others. In addition, we conduct an in-depth analysis of well-known CNN architectures, categorizing them into four distinct groups: standard implementation, recurrent convolutional, decoder architecture, and combined architecture. This paper further offers a comprehensive evaluation of these architectures, covering accuracy metrics, hyperparameters, and an appendix that contains a table outlining the parameters of commonly used CNN architectures for feature extraction from EEG signals. Inferring transient molecular structural dynamics from diffraction data is an ambiguous task that often requires different approximation methods. In this paper, we present an attempt to tackle this problem using machine learning. Although most recent applications of machine learning for the analysis of diffraction images apply only a single neural network to an experimental dataset and train it on the task of prediction, our approach utilizes an additional generator network trained on both synthetic and experimental data. Our network converts experimental data into idealized diffraction patterns from which information is extracted via a convolutional neural network trained on synthetic data only. We validate this approach on ultrafast electron diffraction data of bismuth samples undergoing thermalization upon excitation via 800 nm laser pulses. The network was able to predict transient temperatures with a deviation of less than 6% from analytically estimated values. Notably, this performance was achieved on a dataset of 408 images only. We believe that employing this network in experimental settings where high volumes of visual data are collected, such as beam lines, could provide insights into the structural dynamics of different samples. Lung cancer with the highest mortality rate has attracted public attention. For the difficulty of treating lung cancer increases sharply over time, detecting lung cancer symptoms early on chest computed tomography (CT) is crucial for the subsequent treatment. The number of slices can affect the accuracy of lung cancer examination, so a deep multiple instance learning algorithm was designed and proposed to classify lung cancer effectively. First, feature information is extracted in the patient 3D CT image using the high and low frequency high dimensional features (HLFHD) to balance local detail and global overall information of images. Secondly, to find the decisive features, a sliding recurrent neural network (MSRNN) module is used to take into account the feature variations between slices. The experimental studies in this paper were constructed on two public datasets, namely, CIA and CC-CCII data. Finally, the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve an ACC of 0.97 and an AUC of 0.99 on the datasets. These results suggest that the proposed algorithm is well suited for lung cancer classification of any number of CT slices, and it can be effectively employed in computer-aided systems to achieve state-of-the-art performance. The significant increase in online activities in the wake of recent global events has underlined the importance of biometric person authentication on digital platforms. Although many biometric devices may be used for precise biometric authentication, acquiring the necessary technology, such as 3D sensors or fingerprint scanners, can be prohibitively expensive and logistically challenging. Addressing the demands of online environments, where access to specialized hardware is limited, this paper introduces an innovative approach. In this work, by fusing static and dynamic signature data with facial data captured through regular computer cameras, a dataset of 1750 samples from 25 individuals is constructed. Deep learning models, including convolutional neural networks (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and temporal convolutional networks (TCN), are employed to craft a robust multi-classification model. This integration of various deep learning algorithms has demonstrated remarkable performance enhancements in biometric authentication. This research also underscores the potential of merging dynamic and static biometric features, derived from readily available sources, to yield a high-performance recognition framework. Lung cancer is an uncontrolled growth of tissue causing a lump in the human lung. If lung cancer can be detected early, it can increase the survival rate. Therefore, a multi-classification approach of lung nodule detection with high computational effectiveness is required. In this paper, a multi-classification approach of lung nodule detection and classification is proposed using artificial intelligence on computed tomography (CT) scan images. Different preprocessing steps are applied for resizing, smoothing, and enhancement of the CT images. Then, two different approaches for feature extraction using VGG16 transfer learning and morphological segmentation are proposed. Morphological segmentation and feature extraction are applied for the segmentation of the region of interest and to extract the distinct features. Finally, the proposed deep learning architecture and seven different machine learning algorithms are applied on the preprocessed data and the extracted features for the classification of lung nodules into three classes: malignant, benign, and normal. It is observed that the stacked ensemble model of deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) and VGG16 transfer learning models (CNN+VGG16) can achieve 99.55% accuracy using preprocessed data. It is also observed that all the ML algorithms perform with reasonably high accuracy using the low-dimensional morphological features. It is observed from the fivefold cross-validation results that logistic regression performs with 99.36% accuracy in 23.71 s time using the preprocessed data. This paper provides an approach developed in‐house for condensing ill‐punctuated or unpunctuated discussion transcripts into more intelligible summaries, which combines topic modelling and phrase selection with punctuation restorations. For autonomous synthesis of medical reports from biomedical transcripts, this research proposes using an end‐to‐end summarization technique, Deep Dense Long Short Term Memory Network (LSTM), followed by Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Results: Extensive testing, examination, and comparing have demonstrated that this summarizer works well for medical transcript summarization. The crucial part of the software development cycle is software maintenance. The demands included in the software management are fault fixes and request to change or bring a new feature. If priority is not given to these demands, then it may lead to customer dissatisfaction, inefficient planning, and software failure as well. Various research has been conducted in the past to predict the severity of the paper using text mining focusing only on the content of the bug reports. We propose a prediction model based on LDA to study the content aspect and emotion analysis to study the sentiment aspect. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are becoming popular in cosmology for extracting valuable information from cosmological data. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a convolutional neural network (CNN) trained on matter density snapshots to distinguish clustering dark energy (DE) from the cosmological constant scenario and to detect the speed of sound (c s) associated with clustering DE. We compare the CNN results with those from a Random Forest (RF) algorithm trained on power spectra. Varying the DE equation of state parameter w DE within the range of −0.7 to −0.99 while keeping |$c_s^2 = 1$|⁠ , we find that the CNN approach results in a significant improvement in accuracy over the RF algorithm. The improvement in classification accuracy can be as high as 40 per cent depending on the physical scales involved. We also investigate the ML algorithms' ability to detect the impact of the speed of sound by choosing |$c_s^2$| from the set {1, 10−2, 10−4, 10−7} while maintaining a constant w DE for three different cases: w DE ∈ {−0.7, −0.8, −0.9}. Our results suggest that distinguishing between various values of |$c_s^2$| and the case where |$c_s^2=1$| is challenging, particularly at small scales and when w DE ≈ −1. However, as we consider larger scales, the accuracy of |$c_s^2$| detection improves. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a condition that degenerates over time and impairs speech and pronunciation because brain cells have died. This research work aims to predict parkinson disease using the voice features extracted from speech signals recorded from PD individuals with dysphonic speech disorders by employing deep learning algorithms. PD is challenging to diagnose early on in the clinical presentation. To address the issue in machine learning methods, this paper proposes a neural network model by processing speech signals to classify PD using the University of California Irvine (UCI) machine learning repository dataset. Initially, a pre-loss reduction module is created by using pre-sampling to make the dataset balanced by reducing the dimensionality and maintaining the size of the space without influencing the learning process for data preparation. The relevant features are derived using a novel multi-agent salp swarm (MASS) algorithm, and a novel Parkinson classification neural network (PCNN) is proposed to classify Parkinson's patients with high accuracy employing these derived features. The result shows that the models that use MASS-PCNN produce higher classification accuracy of 99.1%, precision of 97.8%, recall of 94.7% and F1-score of 0.995 when paralleled to the existing models. Personalized learning has gained significant attention in education as a means to cater to the diverse needs of learners and optimize educational outcomes. However, ensuring the efficiency of personalized learning remains a challenge. It requires the ability to accurately analyze and interpret vast amounts of data collected from learners. Traditional analytical approaches often struggle to handle the complexity and heterogeneity of this data, limiting the potential for personalized learning interventions. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a personalized learning efficiency data analysis network (PLEDANet) based on machine learning. First, PLEDANet redesigns a convolutional neural network based on the ResNet structure. The network performs convolutions using multiple convolution kernels of different scales to extract diverse feature information from personalized learning efficiency data. To enhance the extraction and representation of fine-grained differentiated features, PLEDANet introduces a hybrid attention module to combine channel and spatial information among feature maps. Second, PLEDANet designs a hybrid loss function for model training, which consists of the AM-softmax loss and the Center loss. The former increases the inter-class distance of features by imposing a fixed angular margin, while the latter reduces the intra-class distance by constraining the samples and feature centers. Over the past decades, the software industry has expanded to include all industries. Since stakeholders tend to use it to get their work done, software houses seek to estimate the cost of the software, which includes calculating the effort, time, and resources required. Therefore, there is an urgent need for modern techniques that contribute to cost estimation. This paper seeks to present a model based on deep learning and machine learning techniques by combining convolutional neural networks (CNN) and the particle swarm algorithm (PSO) in the context of time series forecasting, which enables feature extraction and automatic tuning of hyperparameters, which reduces the manual effort of selecting parameters and contributes to fine-tuning. The use of PSO also enhances the robustness and generalization ability of the CNN model and its iterative nature allows for efficient discovery of hyperparameter similarity. The model was trained and tested on 13 different benchmark datasets and evaluated through six metrics: mean absolute error (MAE), mean square error (MSE), mean magnitude relative error (MMRE), root mean square error (RMSE), median magnitude relative error (MdMRE), and prediction accuracy (PRED). The nuclear imaging system at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) is a crucial diagnostic for determining the geometry of inertial confinement fusion implosions. The geometry is reconstructed from a neutron aperture image via a set of reconstruction algorithms using an iterative Bayesian inference approach. An important step in these reconstruction algorithms is finding the fusion source location within the camera field-of-view. Currently, source localization is achieved via an iterative optimization algorithm. In this paper, we introduce a machine learning approach for source localization. Specifically, we train a convolutional neural network to predict source locations given a neutron aperture image. We show that this approach decreases computation time by several orders of magnitude compared to the current optimization-based source localization while achieving similar accuracy on both synthetic data and a collection of recent NIF deuterium–tritium shots. Quantum computing (QC) has opened the door to advancements in machine learning (ML) tasks that are currently implemented in the classical domain. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are classical ML architectures that exploit data locality and possess a simpler structure than a fully connected multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs) without compromising the accuracy of classification. However, the concept of preserving data locality is usually overlooked in the existing quantum counterparts of CNNs, particularly for extracting multifeatures in multidimensional data. In this paper, we present an multidimensional quantum convolutional classifier (MQCC) that performs multidimensional and multifeature quantum convolution with average and Euclidean pooling, thus adapting the CNN structure to a variational quantum algorithm (VQA). The experimental work was conducted using multidimensional data to validate the correctness and demonstrate the scalability of the proposed method utilizing both noisy and noise-free quantum simulations. We evaluated the MQCC model with reference to reported work on state-of-the-art quantum simulators from IBM Quantum and Xanadu using a variety of standard ML datasets. This paper proposed a quantum state tomography approach based on the extreme learning machine (ELM), which is available in the reconstruction of quantum states via a lightweight neural network. The key step of the proposed tomography approach is to employ the ELM to approximate the complex mapping between the measurement values sequence and the real density matrix. After obtaining the output of the ELM-based estimator, a matrix transformation technique is used to make the network outputs satisfy quantum state constraints. Compared with deep learning-based tomography approaches, our proposed ELM-based approach enables both high-fidelity and high-efficiency quantum state tomography with only one training process under the condition of very few numbers of training samples, network layers and hidden layer nodes. In addition, the proposed tomography approach is robust to noisy measurement values, since the ELM-based estimator is quite lightweight. Simulations on the tomography of eigenstates, superposition states and mixed states are presented to verify our theoretical findings. With more personal devices being connected to the internet, individuals are becoming increasingly concerned about privacy. Therefore, it is important to develop machine learning algorithms that can use customer data to create personalized models while still adhering to strict privacy laws. In this paper, we propose a robust solution to this problem in a distributed, asynchronous environment with a verifiable convergence rate. Our proposed framework trains a Convolutional Neural Network on each client and sends the feature embeddings to other clients for data aggregation. This allows each client to train a deep-learning model on feature embeddings gathered from various clients in a single communication cycle. We provide a detailed description of the architecture and execution of our suggested approach. Our technique's effectiveness is evaluated by comparing it to the top central training and federated learning (FL) algorithms, and our tests on diverse datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms FL in terms of accuracy and is comparable to central training algorithms. Our findings also show that our proposed method reduces data transfer by over 75% compared to FL, resulting in significant bandwidth savings. With the rapid development of quantum machine learning (QML), quantum convolutional neural networks (QCNN) have been proposed and shown advantages in classification problems. An intrusion detection system (IDS) based on the QML method is proven to have higher accuracy than IDS based on the traditional machine learning (ML) method. However, the multiple convolution pooling operations of QCNN will cause the loss of valuable data features, resulting in a large error in the final measurement results. In this paper, we design an IDS model of QCNN based on a variational quantum neural network (VQNN), which can effectively reduce data feature loss and improve detection accuracy. This paper presents the results of a study on data preprocessing and modeling for predicting corrosion in water pipelines of a steel industrial plant. The use case is a cooling circuit consisting of both direct and indirect cooling. In the direct cooling circuit, water comes into direct contact with the product, whereas in the indirect one, it does not. In this study, advanced machine learning techniques, such as extreme gradient boosting and deep neural networks, have been employed for two distinct applications. Firstly, a virtual sensor was created to estimate the corrosion rate based on influencing process variables, such as pH and temperature. Secondly, a predictive tool was designed to foresee the future evolution of the corrosion rate, considering past values of both influencing variables and the corrosion rate. The results show that the most suitable algorithm for the virtual sensor approach is the dense neural network, with MAPE values of (25 ± 4)% and (11 ± 4)% for the direct and indirect circuits, respectively. In contrast, different results are obtained for the two circuits when following the predictive tool approach. For the primary circuit, the convolutional neural network yields the best results, with MAPE = 4% on the testing set, whereas for the secondary circuit, the LSTM recurrent network shows the highest prediction accuracy, with MAPE = 9%. Malicious social bots pose a serious threat to social network security by spreading false information and guiding bad opinions in social networks. The singularity and scarcity of single organization data and the high cost of labeling social bots have given rise to the construction of federated models that combine federated learning with social bot detection. In this paper, we first combine the federated learning framework with the Relational Graph Convolutional Neural Network (RGCN) model to achieve federated social bot detection. A class-level cross entropy loss function is applied in the local model training to mitigate the effects of the class imbalance problem in local data. To address the data heterogeneity issue from multiple participants, we optimize the classical federated learning algorithm by applying knowledge distillation methods. Specifically, we adjust the client-side and server-side models separately: training a global generator to generate pseudo-samples based on the local data distribution knowledge to correct the optimization direction of client-side classification models, and integrating client-side classification models' knowledge on the server side to guide the training of the global classification model. We conduct extensive experiments on widely used datasets, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in social bot detection in heterogeneous data scenarios. Compared to baseline methods, our approach achieves a nearly 3–10% improvement in detection accuracy when the data heterogeneity is larger. Advancements in imaging, computer vision, and automation have revolutionized various fields, including field-based high-throughput plant phenotyping (FHTPP). This integration allows for the rapid and accurate measurement of plant traits. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) have emerged as a powerful tool in FHTPP, particularly in crop segmentation—identifying crops from the background—crucial for trait analysis. However, the effectiveness of DCNNs often hinges on the availability of large, labeled datasets, which poses a challenge due to the high cost of labeling. In this study, a deep learning with bagging approach is introduced to enhance crop segmentation using high-resolution RGB images, tested on the NU-Spidercam dataset from maize plots. The proposed method outperforms traditional machine learning and deep learning models in prediction accuracy and speed. Remarkably, it achieves up to 40 % higher Intersection-over-Union (IoU) than the threshold method and 11 % over conventional machine learning, with significantly faster prediction times and manageable training duration. Crucially, it demonstrates that even small labeled datasets can yield high accuracy in semantic segmentation. Knowledge distillation is an effective approach for training robust multi-modal machine learning models when synchronous multimodal data are unavailable. However, traditional knowledge distillation techniques have limitations in comprehensively transferring knowledge across modalities and models. This paper proposes a multiscale knowledge distillation framework to address these limitations. Specifically, we introduce a multiscale semantic graph mapping (SGM) loss function to enable more comprehensive knowledge transfer between teacher and student networks at multiple feature scales. We also design a fusion and tuning (FT) module to fully utilize correlations within and between different data types of the same modality when training teacher networks. Furthermore, we adopt transformer-based backbones to improve feature learning compared to traditional convolutional neural networks. We apply the proposed techniques to multimodal human activity recognition and compared with the baseline method, it improved by 2.31% and 0.29% on the MMAct and UTD-MHAD datasets. The increasing availability of large geological datasets together with modern methods of data analysis facilitate a data science approach to geology in which inferences are drawn from geological data using automated methods based on statistics and machine learning. Such methods offer the potential for faster and less subjective interpretations of geological data than are possible from a human interpreter, but translating the understanding of a trained geologist to an algorithm is not straightforward. In this paper, we present automated workflows for detecting geological folds from map data using both unsupervised and supervised machine learning. For the unsupervised case, we use regular expression matching to identify map patterns suggestive of folds along lines crossing the map. We then use the hdbscan clustering algorithm to cluster these possible fold identifications into a smaller number of distinct folds, the number of which is not known a priori. For the supervised learning case, we use synthetic models of folds to train a convolutional neural network to identify folds using map and topographic data. WiFi Channel State Information (CSI)-based human action recognition using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has emerged as a promising approach for non-intrusive activity monitoring. However, the integrity and reliability of the reported performance metrics are susceptible to data leakage, wherein information from the test set inadvertently influences the training process, leading to inflated accuracy rates. In this paper, we conduct a critical analysis of a notable IEEE Sensors Journal study on WiFi CSI-based human action recognition, uncovering instances of data leakage resulting from the absence of subject-based data partitioning. Empirical investigation corroborates the lack of exclusivity of individuals across dataset partitions, underscoring the importance of rigorous data management practices. Furthermore, we demonstrate that employing data partitioning with respect to humans results in significantly lower precision rates than the reported 99.9% precision, highlighting the exaggerated nature of the original findings. As one of the classic tasks in information retrieval, the core of image retrieval is to identify the images sharing similar features with a query image, aiming to enable users to find the required information from a large number of images conveniently. Street view image retrieval, in particular, finds extensive applications in many fields, such as improvements to navigation and mapping services, formulation of urban development planning scheme, and analysis of historical evolution of buildings. However, the intricate foreground and background details in street view images, coupled with a lack of attribute annotations, render it among the most challenging issues in practical applications. Current image retrieval research mainly uses the visual model that is completely dependent on the image visual features, and the multimodal learning model that necessitates additional data sources (e.g., annotated text). Yet, creating annotated datasets is expensive, and street view images, which contain a large amount of scene texts themselves, are often unannotated. Therefore, this paper proposes a deep unsupervised learning algorithm that combines visual and text features from image data for improving the accuracy of street view image retrieval. Specifically, we employ text detection algorithms to identify scene text, utilize the Pyramidal Histogram of Characters encoding predictor model to extract text information from images, deploy deep convolutional neural networks for visual feature extraction, and incorporate a contrastive learning module for image retrieval. Upon testing across three street view image datasets, the results demonstrate that our model holds certain advantages over the state‐of‐the‐art multimodal models pre‐trained on extensive datasets, characterized by fewer parameters and lower floating point operations. Development of a reliable and intelligent traffic monitoring system is highly desired to improve the transportation safety and establish future transportation plans due to the fast growth of vehicle population. Vehicle classification is one of the most critical subsystems where existing ones suffer from privacy concerns, requirements of complicated systems, and high maintenance cost. This paper reports a novel vehicle classification method by utilizing a triboelectric sensor to accurately identify vehicles. Novelty of this method originates from using triboelectric sensor and machine learning method with important advantages over current alternatives by providing an easy installation, simple operation, noninvasive measurement, cost-effective manufacturing, and highly accurate classification. To make a classification, vehicle toys' signals were acquired from triboelectric sensor and then applied to a deep learning algorithm. The 1932 sensor output data were grouped into a set of seven vehicle toys with different wheelbases, and number of tires passing on are used to train and optimize 1D-CNN model. The heating of high-voltage isolating switches above 110 kV will cause serious safety accidents. To identify the heating faults of isolating switches accurately, this study uses natural language processing technology, knowledge graph (KG) technology and machine learning algorithm to mine the structured and unstructured mixed data. Firstly, based on bidirectional encoder representations (BERT) pre-training model, a bidirectional long short-term memory network and conditional random field model are introduced to identify entities related to high-voltage isolating switches and the thermal failures from the text data. Further, a convolutional neural network fusion attention mechanism model is leveraged to recognize the corresponding entity relationships from the text records. Then, the KGs of isolating switches and the heating faults are constructed, and a path ranking algorithm is proposed to deduce and identify the possible factors causing overheating on the KGs. Combined with the structured data, a support vector machine model based on focal loss function (FL-SVM) is proposed to recognize the heating faults of isolating switches. Experiments show that the performances of all six models used in this paper on the hybrid dataset are higher than those on the structured dataset. Such results suggest that joint text-structured data mining can compensate for insufficient structured data and thus, achieving a better heating failure recognition, especially for the infrequent malfunctions. Background: Glaucoma, the second leading cause of global blindness, demands timely detection due to its asymptomatic progression. This paper introduces an advanced computerized system, integrates Machine Learning (ML), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and image processing for accurate glaucoma detection using medical imaging data, surpassing prior research efforts. Method: Developing a hybrid glaucoma detection framework using CNNs (ResNet50, VGG-16) and Random Forest. Models analyze pre-processed retinal images independently, and post-processing rules combine predictions for an overall glaucoma impact assessment. Result: The hybrid framework achieves a significant 95.41% accuracy, with precision and recall at 99.37% and 88.37%, respectively. The F1 score, balancing precision and recall, reaches a commendable 93.52%. These results highlight the robustness and effectiveness of the hybrid framework in accurate glaucoma diagnosis. Conclusion: In summary, our research presents an innovative hybrid framework combining CNNs and traditional ML models for glaucoma detection. Using ResNet50, VGG-16, and Random Forest in an ensemble approach yields remarkable accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. These results showcase the methodology's potential to enhance glaucoma diagnosis, emphasizing its promising role in early detection and preventing irreversible vision loss. Classifying imbalanced data presents a significant challenge, and many studies have proposed methodologies to address this issue. Among them, Convolutional Neural Networks have demonstrated superior performance for imbalanced image classification. This paper initially employs various data pre-processing methods such as over-sampling, under-sampling, and SMOTE to enhance the original dataset. Subsequently, an Ensemble CNN learning model is used to train and predict the data. In order to comprehensively evaluate models trained on imbalanced data, we used metrics such as Accuracy, Recall, Precision, F1-score, and G-mean. On the CIFAR-10 and Fashion-MNIST datasets, different samples from each category were extracted as imbalanced data for experimental research. Compared to the AdaBoost-DenseNet model, our proposed methodology increases the test accuracy on the CIFAR-10 dataset by 9%. Similarly, the F1-score and G-mean improved by 0.096 and 0.069, respectively. Aiming at the problem that the cement production process is inherently affected by uncertainty, time delay, and strong coupling among variables, this paper proposed a novel soft sensor of free calcium oxide in a cement clinker. The model utilizes a dual-parallel integrated structure with an optimized integration of one-dimensional convolutional neural networks, long and short-term memory networks, graphical neural networks, and extreme gradient boosting. The proposed model can mitigate the risks associated with overfitting while incorporating the strengths of each individual model and excels in extracting both local and global features as well as temporal and spatial characteristics from the original time series data, ensuring its stability. The experimental results demonstrate that this dual-parallel integrated model exhibits superior robustness, predictive accuracy, and generalization capabilities when compared to single models or enhancements made to other deep learning algorithms.
