Since reporting cases of breast cancer are on the rise all over the world. Especially in regions such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. Efficient methods for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer are needed. The usual diagnosis procedures followed by physicians has been updated with modern diagnostic approaches that include computer-aided support for better accuracy. Machine learning based practices has increased the accuracy and efficiency of medical diagnosis, which has helped save lives of many patients. There is much research in the field of medical imaging diagnostics that can be applied to the variety of data such as magnetic resonance images (MRIs), mammograms, X-rays, ultrasounds, and histopathological images, but magnetic resonance (MR) and mammogram imaging have proved to present the promising results. The proposed paper has presented the results of classification algorithms over Breast Cancer (BC) mammograms from a novel dataset taken from hospitals in the Qassim health cluster of Saudi Arabia. This paper has developed a novel approach called the novel spectral extraction algorithm (NSEA) that uses feature extraction and fusion by using local binary pattern (LBP) and bilateral algorithms, as well as a support vector machine (SVM) as a classifier. The NSEA with the SVM classifier demonstrated a promising accuracy of 94% and an elapsed time of 0.68 milliseconds, which were significantly better results than those of comparative experiments from classifiers named Naïve Bayes, logistic regression, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Gaussian Discriminant Analysis (GDA), AdaBoost and Extreme Learning Machine (ELM). ELM produced the comparative accuracy of 94% however has a lower elapsed time of 1.35 as compared to SVM. Adaboost has produced a fairly well accuracy of 82%, KNN has a low accuracy of 66%. At present, voice biometrics are commonly used for identification and authentication of users through their voice. Voice based services such as mobile banking, access to personal devices, and logging into social networks are the common examples of authenticating users through voice biometrics. In Pakistan, voice-based services are very common in banking and mobile/cellular sector, however, these services do not use voice features to recognize customers. Therefore, the chance to use these services with false identity is always high. It is essential to design a voice-based recognition system to minimize the risk of false identity. In this paper, we developed regional voice datasets for voice biometrics, by collecting voice data in different local accents of Pakistan. Although, there is a global need for voice biometrics especially when voice-based services are common, however, this paper uses Pakistan as a use case to show how to build regional voice dataset for voice biometrics. To build voice dataset, voice samples were recorded from 180 male and female speakers with two languages English and Urdu in form of five regional accents. Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) features were extracted from the collected voice samples to train Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Random Forest (RF) and K-nearest neighbor (KNN) classifiers. In this paper, we have focused on machine learning (ML) feature selection (FS) algorithms for identifying and diagnosing multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB). MDR-TB is a universal public health problem, and its early detection has been one of the burning issues. The present study has been conducted in the Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, to further add to the knowledge on the disease and to deal with the issues of identification and early detection of MDR-TB by ML algorithms. These models also identify the most important factors causing MDR-TB infection whose study gives additional insights into the matter. ML algorithms such as random forest, k-nearest neighbors, support vector machine, logistic regression, leaset absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and decision trees are applied to analyse the case-control dataset. This study reveals that close contacts of MDR-TB patients, smoking, depression, previous TB history, improper treatment, and interruption in first-line TB treatment have a great impact on the status of MDR. Accordingly, weight loss, chest pain, hemoptysis, and fatigue are important symptoms. Household food security is a major issue in developing countries like Pakistan. Despite significant breakthroughs in grain production within the country, the problem of food availability and utilization persists. Diet is one of the most potent determinants of nutritional condition. The dietary intake method has been utilized to determine the food security status of households, which depends on various factors. There are no automatic and user-friendly methods available to decide food security status, which is generally determined by manually calculating calorie intakes. Due to its high performance and precision, machine learning holds major significance. In this paper, the status of food security has been examined by applying machine learning algorithms, namely, support vector machine, naïve Bayes, k-nearest neighbors, random forest, logistic regression, and neural network, on survey data of households for best predicting the status. A food analysis (FA) app has been developed to automatically predict the FAO status of a household's food security by implementing the random forest model that found higher precision among algorithms. Additionally, the proposed mobile app will also be helpful for collecting the households' data. Furthermore, the objective of the study was to enhance food security awareness among individuals. Precise and reliable hydrological runoff prediction plays a significant role in the optimal management of hydropower resources. Nevertheless, the hydrological runoff practically possesses a nonlinear dynamics, and constructing appropriate runoff prediction models to deal with the nonlinearity is a challenging task. To overcome this difficulty, this paper proposes a three-stage novel hybrid model, namely, CVS (CEEMDAN-VMD-SVM), by coupling the support vector machine (SVM) with a two-stage signal decomposition methodology, combining complete ensemble empirical decomposition with additive noise (CEEMDAN) and variational mode decomposition (VMD), to obtain inclusive information of the runoff time series. Hydrological runoff data of the Swat River, Pakistan, from 1961 to 2015 were taken for prediction. CEEMDAN decomposes the runoff time series into subcomponents, and VMD performs further decomposition of the high-frequency component obtained after CEEMDAN decomposition to improve the prediction activity. Afterward, the SVM algorithm was applied to the decomposed subcomponents for the prediction purpose. Finally, four statistical indices are utilized to measure the performance of the CVS model compared with other hybrid models including CEEMDAN-VMD-MLP (multilayer perceptron), CEEMDAN-SVM, VMD-SVM, CEEMDAN-MLP, VMD-MLP, SVM, and MLP. The CVS model performs better during the training period by reducing RMSE by 71.28% and 40.06% compared with MLP and CEEDMAD-VMD-SVM models, respectively. However, during the testing period, the error reductions include RMSE by 68.37% and 35.33% compared with MLP and CEEDMAD-VMD-SVM models, respectively. The results highlight that the CVS model outperforms other models in terms of accuracy and error reduction. The research also highlights the superiority of other hybrid models over standalone in predicting the hydrological runoff. The increased global warming has increased the likelihood of recurrent drought hazards. Potential links between the frequency of extreme weather events and global warming have been suggested by earlier research. The spatial variability of meteorological factors over short distances can cause distortions in conclusions or limit the scope of drought analysis in a particular region when extreme values predominate. Therefore, it is challenging to make trustworthy judgments regarding the spatiotemporal characteristics of regional drought. This study aims to improve the quality and accuracy of regional drought characterization and the process of continuous monitoring. The new drought indicator presented in this study is called the Support Vector Machine based drought index (SVM-DI). It is created by adding different weights to an SVM-based X-bar chart that is displayed with regional precipitation aggregate data. The SVM-DI application site is located in Pakistan's northern area. Using the Pearson correlation coefficient for pairwise comparison, the study compares the SVM-DI and the Regional Standard Precipitation Index (RSPI). Interestingly, compared to RSPI, SVM-DI shows more pronounced regional characteristics in its correlations with other meteorological stations, with a significantly lower Coefficient of Variation. These results confirm that SVM-DI is a useful tool for regional drought analysis. Natural disasters, notably landslides, pose significant threats to communities and infrastructure. Landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) has been globally deemed as an effective tool to mitigate such threats. In this regard, this study considers the northern region of Pakistan, which is primarily susceptible to landslides amid rugged topography, frequent seismic events, and seasonal rainfall, to carry out LSM. To achieve this goal, this study pioneered the fusion of baseline models (logistic regression (LR), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and support vector machine (SVM)) with ensembled algorithms (Cascade Generalization (CG), random forest (RF), Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LightGBM), AdaBoost, Dagging, and XGBoost). With a dataset comprising 228 landslide inventory maps, this study employed a random forest classifier and a correlation-based feature selection (CFS) approach to identify the twelve most significant parameters instigating landslides. The evaluated parameters included slope angle, elevation, aspect, geological features, and proximity to faults, roads, and streams, and slope was revealed as the primary factor influencing landslide distribution, followed by aspect and rainfall with a minute margin. The models, validated with an AUC of 0.784, ACC of 0.912, and K of 0.394 for logistic regression (LR), as well as an AUC of 0.907, ACC of 0.927, and K of 0.620 for XGBoost, highlight the practical effectiveness and potency of LSM. The results revealed the superior performance of LR among the baseline models and XGBoost among the ensembles, which contributed to the development of precise LSM for the study area. Over the past few years, mobile devices and their services have become widely used around the world. Almost everyone uses the Text Messaging Service (SMS) for communication purposes because it is easy to use and inexpensive. When a person tries to deceive another for the sake of profit (material or money), it is known as Fraud. Through SMS fraud, fraudsters often adopt various strategies to make their messages look credible and legitimate. Various popular organizations use SMS services to advertise their products and send messages to individuals about their services. As a result, one receives many junk messages. Spam message is a message sent to any user who does not want to have it on their phone. Spam or fraudulent messages can be threatening and can sometimes cause financial and confidential data loss. In Pakistan, messages are sent in English and Urdu (Pakistani national language) but most messages are sent using Roman Urdu (Urdu written using Latin / English characters). This research compares the strategies and algorithms used in the literature to detect spam / fraudulent messages written in English or in any local language such as Roman Urdu. The study also suggests a new way to detect fraudulent messages written directly in Roman Urdu. In the fraud detection process, three different monitoring machine learning classifiers are used in this study namely Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naïve Bayes (NB) and Decision Tree (J48). Low-resolution Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) maps surrounding the region of interest show oolitic and fossiliferous limestone occurrences correspondingly in Samanasuk, Lockhart, and Margalla hill formations in the Hazara division, Pakistan. Machine-learning algorithms (MLAs) have been rarely applied to multispectral remote sensing data for differentiating between limestone formations formed due to different depositional environments, such as oolitic or fossiliferous. Unlike the previous studies that mostly report lithological classification of rock types having different chemical compositions by the MLAs, this paper aimed to investigate MLAs' potential for mapping subclasses within the same lithology, i.e., limestone. Additionally, selecting appropriate data labels, training algorithms, hyperparameters, and remote sensing data sources were also investigated while applying these MLAs. In this paper, first, oolitic (Samanasuk), fossiliferous (Lockhart and Margalla) limestone-bearing formations along with the adjoining Hazara formation were mapped using random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), classification and regression tree (CART), and naïve Bayes (NB) MLAs. The RF algorithm reported the best accuracy of 83.28% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.78. To further improve the targeted allochemical limestone formation map, annotation labels were generated by the fusion of maps obtained from principal component analysis (PCA), decorrelation stretching (DS), X-means clustering applied to ASTER-L1T, Landsat-8, and Sentinel-2 datasets. These labels were used to train and validate SVM, CART, NB, and RF MLAs to obtain a binary classification map of limestone occurrences in the Hazara division, Pakistan using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The classification of Landsat-8 data by CART reported 99.63% accuracy, with a Kappa coefficient of 0.99, and was in good agreement with the field validation. This binary limestone map was further classified into oolitic (Samanasuk) and fossiliferous (Lockhart and Margalla) formations by all the four MLAs; in this case, RF surpassed all the other algorithms with an improved accuracy of 96.36%. This improvement can be attributed to better annotation, resulting in a binary limestone classification map, which formed a mask for improved classification of oolitic and fossiliferous limestone in the area. Machine learning methods are considered as most effective approaches to accomplish landslide susceptibility analysis around the globe. Landslide susceptibility maps (LSMs) have been frequently executed by statistical models in NW Himalaya. However, the comparison and applications of the statistical models with modern machine learning techniques has not been fully explored in this region. Hence, this study aims to compare the predicted performance of statistical and popular machine learning models to explore robust landslide prediction model in the landslide-prone area of NW Himalaya and investigate the compensations and limitations of these models to grasp a more precise and consistent result. This study presented machine learning approaches based on the artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM) and logistic regression (LR) and the statistical methods based on the frequency ratio (FR), information value (InfoV) and weight of evidence (WoE). For this purpose, first an inventory map of 1507 landslides was prepared and randomly divided into training (70%) and testing (30%) dataset. Furthermore, 12 landslide conditioning factors (LCFs) were extracted from geospatial dataset to prepare thematic layers in ArcGIS. Thereafter, factor analysis was performed to eliminate colinear and least important variables which can mislead the results. The results showed that all selected LCFs are noncolinear and have significant contribution on landslides initiation, however, lithology, slope angle, annual rainfall and landuse were most influential factors. For modeling purpose, landslide inventory was correlated against all LCFs and trained into six models to produce respective LSMs. Finally, the performance of produced LSM models was validated and compared through area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), Accuracy, Recall, F1-score and Cohen's Kappa coefficients to assess the robustness of employed models. The results exhibit that the performance scores of machine learning models were considerably superior than statistical models. While, the AUROC values based on validation dataset indicate that LR (0.89) has better prediction ability followed by SVM (0.86), ANN (0.84), FR (0.83), InfoV (0.82) and WoE (0.81) in this study. Therefore, it is reasoned out that the machine learning methods are more reliable in generating adequate LSMs. However, the LR is recommended as most efficient model for predicting landslide susceptible zones in study region and thus can be considered as robust model for landslide susceptibility assessment in similar geo-environmental regimes. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based multispectral remote sensing has been the best supporting tool using limited resources to enhance the lithological mapping abilities with accuracy, supported by ground truthing through traditional mapping techniques. The availability of the dataset, choice of algorithm, cost, accuracy, computational time, data labeling, and terrain features are some crucial considerations that researchers continue to explore. In this research, support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) were applied to the Sentinel-2 MSI dataset for classifying lithologies having subtle compositional differences in the Kohat Basin's remote, inaccessible regions within Pakistan. First, we used principal component analysis (PCA), minimum noise fraction (MNF), and available maps for reliable data annotation for training SVM and (ANN) models for mapping ten classes (nine lithological units + water). The ANN and SVM results were compared with the previously conducted studies in the area and ground truth survey to evaluate their accuracy. SVM mapped ten classes with an overall accuracy (OA) of 95.78% and kappa coefficient of 0.95, compared to 95.73% and 0.95 by ANN classification. The SVM algorithm was more efficient concerning computational efficiency, accuracy, and ease due to available features within Google Earth Engine (GEE). Air quality has a significant influence on the environment and health. Instruments that efficiently and inexpensively detect air quality could be extremely valuable in detecting air quality indices. This study presents a robust deep learning model named AQE-Net, for estimating air quality from mobile images. The algorithm extracts features and patterns from scene photographs collected by the camera device and then classifies the images according to air quality index (AQI) levels. Additionally, an air quality dataset (KARACHI-AQI) of high-quality outdoor images was constructed to enable the model's training and assessment of performance. The sample data were collected from an air quality monitoring station in Karachi City, Pakistan, comprising 1001 hourly datasets, including photographs, PM2.5 levels, and the AQI. This study compares and examines traditional machine learning algorithms, e.g., a support vector machine (SVM), and deep learning models, such as VGG16, InceptionV3, and AQE-Net on the KHI-AQI dataset. The experimental findings demonstrate that, compared to other models, AQE-Net achieved more accurate categorization findings for air quality. AQE-Net achieved 70.1% accuracy, while SVM, VGG16, and InceptionV3 achieved 56.2% and 59.2% accuracy, respectively. In addition, MSE, MAE, and MAPE values were calculated for our model (1.278, 0.542, 0.310), which indicates the remarkable efficacy of our approach. The suggested method shows promise as a fast and accurate way to estimate and classify pollutants from only captured photographs. Landslides triggered in mountainous areas can have catastrophic consequences, threaten human life, and cause billions of dollars in economic losses. Hence, it is imperative to map the areas susceptible to landslides to minimize their risk. Around Abbottabad, a large city in northern Pakistan, a large number of landslides can be found. This study aimed to map the landslide susceptibility over these regions in Pakistan by using three Machine Learning (ML) techniques, specifically Linear Regression (LiR), Logistic Regression (LoR), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Several influencing factors were used to identify the potential landslide areas, including elevation, slope degree, slope aspect, general curvature, plan curvature, profile curvature, landcover classification system, Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), soil, lithology, fault density, topographic roughness index, and road density. The weights of these factors were calculated using ML techniques. The weightage overlay tool is adopted to map the final output. According to three ML models, lithology, NDWI, slope, and LCCS significantly impact landslide occurrence. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) is applied to validate the performance of models, and the results show the AUC value of LiR (88%) is better than SVM (86%) and LoR (85%) models. ML models and final susceptibility map gives good accuracy, which can be reliable for the results. The study's outcome provides baselines for policymakers to propose adequate protection and mitigation measures against the landslides in the region, and any other researcher can adopt this methodology to map the landslide susceptibility in another area having similar characteristics. Coronavirus is a potentially fatal disease that normally occurs in mammals and birds. Generally, in humans, the virus spreads through aerial droplets of any type of fluid secreted from the body of an infected person. Coronavirus is a family of viruses that is more lethal than other unpremeditated viruses. In December 2019, a new variant, i.e., a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) developed in Wuhan province, China. Since January 23, 2020, the number of infected individuals has increased rapidly, affecting the health and economies of many countries, including Pakistan. The objective of this research is to provide a system to classify and categorize the COVID-19 outbreak in Pakistan based on the data collected every day from different regions of Pakistan. This research also compares the performance of machine learning classifiers (i.e., Decision Tree (DT), Naive Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine, and Logistic Regression) on the COVID-19 dataset collected in Pakistan. According to the experimental results, DT and NB classifiers outperformed the other classifiers. In addition, the classified data is categorized by implementing a BayesianRegularizationArtificialNeuralNetwork (BRANN) classifier. Stock market trends can be affected by external factors such as public sentiment and political events. The goal of this research is to find whether or not public sentiment and political situation on a given day can affect stock market trends of individual companies or the overall market. For this purpose, the sentiment and situation features are used in a machine learning model to find the effect of public sentiment and political situation on the prediction accuracy of algorithms for 7 days in future. Besides, interdependencies among companies and stock markets are also studied. For the sake of experimentation, stock market historical data are downloaded from Yahoo! Finance and public sentiments are obtained from Twitter. Important political events data of Pakistan are crawled from Wikipedia. The raw text data are then pre-processed, and the sentiment and situation features are generated to create the final data sets. Ten machine learning algorithms are applied to the final data sets to predict the stock market future trend. The experimental results show that the sentiment feature improves the prediction accuracy of machine learning algorithms by 0–3%, and political situation feature improves the prediction accuracy of algorithms by about 20%. Furthermore, the sentiment attribute is most effective on day 7, while the political situation attribute is most effective on day 5. SMO algorithm is found to show the best performance, while ASC and Bagging show poor performance. The major concern in Pakistani agriculture is the reduction of growing weed. This research aims to provide a weed detection tool for future agri-robots. The weed detection tool incorporates the use of machine-learning procedure explicitly implementing Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and blob analysis for the effective classification of crop and weed. Weed revealing is based on characteristic features i.e. red green blue (RGB) components which differentiate soil and plant. Morphological features--centroidand length aid to distinguish shape of crop and weed leaves. Following feature extraction, the positive and negative margins are separated by a hyper-plane. The separating hyper-plane acts as the decision surface. Sample input consists of multiple digital field images of carrot crops. Training samples of seventy two images are taken. Regular inspection of railway track health is crucial for maintaining safe and reliable train operations. Factors, such as cracks, ballast issues, rail discontinuity, loose nuts and bolts, burnt wheels, superelevation, and misalignment developed on the rails due to non-maintenance, pre-emptive investigations and delayed detection, pose a grave danger and threats to the safe operation of rail transport. The traditional procedure of manually inspecting the rail track using a railway cart is both inefficient and prone to human error and biases. In a country like Pakistan where train accidents have taken many lives, it is not unusual to automate such approaches to avoid such accidents and save countless lives. This study aims at enhancing the traditional railway cart system to address these issues by introducing an automatic railway track fault detection system using acoustic analysis. In this regard, this study makes two important contributions: data collection on Pakistan railway tracks using acoustic signals and the application of various classification techniques to the collected data. Initially, three types of tracks are considered, including normal track, wheel burnt and superelevation, due to their common occurrence. Several well-known machine learning algorithms are applied such as support vector machines, logistic regression, random forest and decision tree classifier, in addition to deep learning models like multilayer perceptron and convolutional neural networks. The China–Pakistan Karakoram Highway is an important land route from China to South Asia and the Middle East via Pakistan. Due to the extremely hazardous geological environment around the highway, landslides, debris flows, collapses, and subsidence are frequent. Among them, debris flows are one of the most serious geological hazards on the Karakoram Highway, and they often cause interruptions to traffic and casualties. Therefore, the development of debris flow susceptibility mapping along the highway can potentially facilitate its safe operation. In this study, we used remote sensing, GIS, and machine learning techniques to map debris flow susceptibility along the Karakoram Highway in areas where observation data are scarce and difficult to obtain by field survey. First, the distribution of 544 catchments which are prone to debris flow were identified through visual interpretation of remote sensing images. The factors influencing debris flow susceptibility were then analyzed, and a total of 17 parameters related to geomorphology, soil materials, and triggering conditions were selected. Model training was based on multiple common machine learning methods, including Ensemble Methods, Gaussian Processes, Generalized Linear models, Navies Bayes, Nearest Neighbors, Support Vector Machines, Trees, Discriminant Analysis, and eXtreme Gradient Boosting. Support Vector Classification (SVC) was chosen as the final model after evaluation; its accuracy (ACC) was 0.91, and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.96. Among the factors involved in SVC, the Melton Ratio (MR) was the most important, followed by drainage density (DD), Hypsometric Integral (HI), and average slope (AS), indicating that geomorphic conditions play an important role in predicting debris flow susceptibility in the study area.
