An $(r, \delta)$ -locally repairable code ($(r, \delta)$ -LRC for short) was introduced by Prakash et al. for tolerating multiple failed nodes in distributed storage systems, which was a generalization of the concept of $r$ -LRCs produced by Gopalan et al.. An $(r, \delta)$ -LRC is said to be optimal if it achieves the Singleton-like bound. Recently, Chen et al. generalized the construction of cyclic $r$ -LRCs proposed by Tamo et al. , and constructed several classes of optimal $(r, \delta)$ -LRCs of length $n$ for $n\, |\, (q-1)$ or $n\,|\, (q+1)$ , respectively in terms of a union of the set of zeros controlling the minimum distance and the set of zeros ensuring the locality. Following the work of , , this paper first characterizes $(r, \delta)$ -locality of a cyclic code via its zeros. Then we construct several classes of optimal cyclic $(r, \delta)$ -LRCs of length $n$ for $n\, |\, (q-1)$ or $n\,|\, (q+1)$ , respectively from the product of two sets of zeros. Our constructions include all optimal cyclic $(r,\delta)$ -LRCs proposed in , , and our method seems more convenient to obtain optimal cyclic $(r, \delta)$ -LRCs with flexible parameters. Moreover, many optimal cyclic $(r,\delta)$ -LRCs of length $n$ for $n\, |\, (q-1)$ or $n\,|\, (q+1)$ , respectively with $(r+\delta -1)\nmid n$ can be obtained from our method. Linear codes generated by component functions of perfect nonlinear (PN for short) and almost perfect nonlinear (APN for short) functions and the first-order Reed-Muller codes have been an object of intensive study in coding theory. The objective of this paper is to investigate some binary shortened codes of two families of linear codes from APN functions and some $p$ -ary shortened codes associated with PN functions. The weight distributions of these shortened codes and the parameters of their duals are determined. The parameters of these binary codes and $p$ -ary codes are flexible. Many of the codes presented in this paper are optimal or almost optimal. The results of this paper show that the shortening technique is very promising for constructing good codes. It is well-known that cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In recent years, antiprimitive BCH codes have attracted a lot of attention. The objective of this paper is to study BCH codes of this type over finite fields and analyse their parameters. Some lower bounds on the minimum distance of antiprimitive BCH codes are given. The BCH codes presented in this paper have good parameters in general, containing many optimal linear codes. After a seminal paper by Shekeey (Adv Math Commun 10(3):475-488, 2016), a connection between maximum h-scattered F q -subspaces of V (r , q n) and maximum rank distance (MRD) codes has been established in the extremal cases h = 1 and h = r - 1 . In this paper, we propose a connection for any h ∈ { 1 , ... , r - 1 } , extending and unifying all the previously known ones. As a consequence, we obtain examples of non-square MRD codes which are not equivalent to generalized Gabidulin or twisted Gabidulin codes. We show that, up to equivalence, MRD codes having the same parameters as the ones in our connection come from an h-scattered subspace. The binary quadratic-residue codes and the punctured Reed-Muller codes ${\mathcal {R}}_{2}((m-1)/2, m))$ are two families of binary cyclic codes with parameters $[n, (n+1)/2, d \geq \sqrt {n}]$. These two families of binary cyclic codes are interesting partly due to the fact that their minimum distances have a square-root bound. The objective of this paper is to construct two families of binary cyclic codes of length $2^{m}-1$ and dimension near $2^{m-1}$ with good minimum distances. When $m \geq 3$ is odd, the codes become a family of duadic codes with parameters $[2^{m}-1, 2^{m-1}, d]$ , where $d \geq 2^{(m-1)/2}+1$ if $m \equiv 3 \pmod {4}$ and $d \geq 2^{(m-1)/2}+3$ if $m \equiv 1 \pmod {4}$. Boolean functions, coding theory and $t$ -designs have close connections and interesting interplay. A standard approach to constructing $t$ -designs is the use of linear codes with certain regularity. The Assmus-Mattson Theorem and the automorphism groups are two ways for proving that a code has sufficient regularity for supporting $t$ -designs. However, some linear codes hold $t$ -designs, although they do not satisfy the conditions in the Assmus-Mattson Theorem and do not admit a $t$ -transitive or $t$ -homogeneous group as a subgroup of their automorphisms. The major objective of this paper is to develop a theory for explaining such codes and obtaining such new codes and hence new $t$ -designs. To this end, a general theory for punctured and shortened codes of linear codes supporting $t$ -designs is established, a generalized Assmus-Mattson theorem is developed, and a link between 2-designs and differentially $\delta $ -uniform functions and 2-designs is built. With these general results, binary codes with new parameters and explicit weight distributions are obtained, new 2-designs and Steiner system $S(2, 4, 2^{n})$ are produced in this paper. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are very important in both theory and practice. There is a classical construction of a family of $[{2^{m}+1, 2u-1, 2^{m}-2u+3}]$ MDS codes for $1 \leq u \leq 2^{m-1}$ , which are cyclic, reversible and BCH codes over ${\mathrm {GF}}(2^{m})$. The objective of this paper is to study the quaternary subfield subcodes and quaternary subfield codes of a subfamily of the MDS codes for even $m$. A family of quaternary cyclic codes is obtained. These quaternary codes are distance-optimal in some cases and very good in general. Furthermore, two infinite families of 3-designs from these quaternary codes and their duals are presented. Tang and Ding [IEEE IT 67 (2021) 244-254] studied the class of BCH codes $\mathcal {C}_{(q,q+1,4,1)}$ and their dual codes with $q=2^{m}$ and established that the codewords of the minimum (or the second minimum) weight in these codes support 4-designs or 3-designs. Motivated by this, we further investigate the codewords of the next adjacent weight in such codes and discover more infinite classes of $t$ -designs with $t=3,4$. In particular, we prove that codewords of weight 7 in $\mathcal {C}_{(q,q+1,4,1)}$ support 4-designs for odd $m \geqslant 5$ and they support 3-designs for even $m \geqslant 4$ , which provide infinite classes of simple $t$ -designs with new parameters. Another significant class of $t$ -designs we produce in this paper has complementary designs with parameters 4- $(2^{2s+1}+ 1,5,5)$ ; these designs have the smallest index among all the known simple 4- $(q+1,5,\lambda)$ designs derived from codes for prime powers $q$ ; and they are further proved to be isomorphic to the 4-designs admitting the projective general linear group PGL $(2,2^{2s+1})$ as the automorphism group constructed by Alltop in 1969. Linear codes with certain special properties have received renewed attention in recent years due to their practical applications. Among them, binary linear complementary dual (LCD) codes play an important role in implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. Self-orthogonal codes can be used to construct quantum codes. In this paper, four classes of binary linear codes are constructed via a generic construction which has been intensively investigated in the past decade. Simple characterizations of these linear codes to be LCD or self-orthogonal are presented. Resultantly, infinite families of binary LCD codes and self-orthogonal codes are obtained. Infinite families of binary LCD codes from the duals of these four classes of linear codes are produced. Many LCD codes and self-orthogonal codes obtained in this paper are optimal or almost optimal in the sense that they meet certain bounds on general linear codes. For high-rate linear systematic maximum distance separable (MDS) codes, most early constructions could initially optimally repair all the systematic nodes but not all the parity nodes. Fortunately, this issue was first solved by Li et al. in (IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, 64(9), 6257-6267, 2018), where a transformation that can convert any nonbinary MDS array code into another one with desired properties was proposed. However, the transformation does not work for binary MDS array codes. In this paper, we address this issue by proposing another generic transformation that can convert any $[n, k]$ binary MDS array code into a new one, which endows any $r=n-k\ge 2$ chosen nodes with optimal repair bandwidth and optimal rebuilding access properties, and at the same time, preserves the normalized repair bandwidth/rebuilding access for the remaining $k$ nodes under some conditions. As two immediate applications, we show that 1) by applying the transformation multiple times, any binary MDS array code can be converted into one with optimal rebuilding access for all nodes, 2) any binary MDS array code with optimal repair bandwidth or optimal rebuilding access for the systematic nodes can be converted into one with the corresponding optimality property for all nodes. Cyclic codes are widely employed in communication systems, storage devices, and consumer electronics, as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. BCH codes, as a special subclass of cyclic codes, are in most cases among the best cyclic codes. A subclass of good BCH codes are the narrow-sense BCH codes over \mathrm GF(q) with length n=(q^m-1)/(q-1) . Little is known about this class of BCH codes when $q>2$ . The objective of this paper is to study some of the codes within this class. In particular, the dimension, the minimum distance, and the weight distribution of some ternary BCH codes with length n=(3^{m}-1)/2 are determined in this paper. This paper considers “ $\delta $ -almost Reed–Muller codes”, i.e., linear codes spanned by evaluations of all but a $\delta $ fraction of monomials of degree at most $d$. It is shown that for any $\delta > 0$ and any $\varepsilon >0$ , there exists a family of $\delta $ -almost Reed–Muller codes of constant rate that correct $1/2- \varepsilon $ fraction of random errors with high probability. For exact Reed–Muller codes, the analogous result is not known and represents a weaker version of the longstanding conjecture that Reed–Muller codes achieve capacity for random errors (Abbe-Shpilka-Wigderson STOC ’15). Our proof is based on the recent polarization result for Reed–Muller codes, combined with a combinatorial approach to establishing inequalities between the Reed–Muller code entropies. In this paper, we provide two complementary results for cyclic codes of composite length. First, we give a general construction of cyclic codes of length nr from cyclic codes of length n and a lower bound on the minimum distance. Numerical data show that many cyclic codes of composite length with the best parameters can be obtained in this way. Second, in the other direction, we show that for cyclic codes of length n with a primitive n-th root of unity as a non-zero, the minimum distance is roughly bounded by the square-free part of n. This paper provides a link between matroid theory and locally repairable codes (LRCs) that are either linear or more generally almost affine. Using this link, new results on both LRCs and matroid theory are derived. The parameters $(n,k,d,r,\delta )$ of LRCs are generalized to matroids, and the matroid analog of the generalized singleton bound by Gopalan et al. for linear LRCs is given for matroids. It is shown that the given bound is not tight for certain classes of parameters, implying a nonexistence result for the corresponding locally repairable almost affine codes that are coined perfect in this paper. Constructions of classes of matroids with a large span of the parameters $(n,k,d,r,\delta )$ and the corresponding local repair sets are given. Using these matroid constructions, new LRCs are constructed with prescribed parameters. In this paper, a generic construction of codebooks based on binary codes is introduced. With this generic construction, a few previous constructions of optimal codebooks are extended, and a new class of codebooks almost meeting the Levenshtein bound is presented. Exponentially many codebooks meeting or almost meeting the Levenshtein bound from binary codes are obtained in this paper. The codebooks constructed in this paper have alphabet size 4. By introducing several levels of recoverability for locally recoverable codes (LRCs), LRCs with hierarchical locality (H-LRCs) are defined for correcting different numbers of erasures. There are two major ingredients in this paper. The first is to investigate some properties and existence conditions of optimal H-LRCs with respect to a generalized Singleton-like bound for H-LRCs. In this paper, we construct several classes of maximum distance separable (MDS) codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and extended GRS codes, where we can determine the dimensions of their Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls. It turns out that the dimensions of Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls of the codes in our constructions can take all or almost all possible values. As a consequence, we can apply our results to entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) and obtain several new families of MDS EAQECCs with flexible parameters. The required number of maximally entangled states of these MDS EAQECCs can take all or almost all possible values. Minimal linear codes have significant applications in secret sharing schemes and secure two-party computation. There are several methods to construct linear codes, one of which is based on functions over finite fields. Recently, many construction methods for linear codes from functions have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, we generalize the recent construction methods given by Tang et al. in [IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 62(3), 1166-1176, 2016] to weakly regular plateaued functions over finite fields of odd characteristic. We first construct three-weight linear codes from weakly regular plateaued functions based on the second generic construction and then determine their weight distributions. We also give a punctured version and subcode of each constructed code. We note that they may be (almost) optimal codes and can be directly employed to obtain (democratic) secret sharing schemes, which have diverse applications in the industry. In this paper, the 3-rank of the incidence matrices of 2-designs supported by the minimum weight codewords in a family of ternary linear codes considered in Ding and Li (Discret Math 340(10):2415–2431, 2017) are computed. A lower bound on the minimum distance of the ternary codes spanned by the incidence matrices of these designs is derived, and it is proved that the codes are subcodes of the 4th order generalized Reed–Muller codes. The hull of linear codes has promising utilization in coding theory and quantum coding theory. In this paper, we study the hull of generalized Reed–Solomon codes and extended generalized Reed–Solomon codes over finite fields with respect to the Euclidean inner product. Several infinite families of MDS codes with hulls of arbitrary dimensions are presented. As an application, using these MDS codes with hulls of arbitrary dimensions, we construct several new infinite families of entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes with flexible parameters. Linear codes with complementary duals (abbreviated LCD) are linear codes whose intersection with their dual is trivial. When they are binary, they play an important role in armoring implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. Non-binary LCD codes in characteristic 2 can be transformed into binary LCD codes by expansion. On the other hand, being optimal codes, maximum distance separable codes (abbreviated MDS) are of much interest from many viewpoints due to their theoretical and practical properties. However, little work has been done on LCD MDS codes. In particular, determining the existence of q-ary [n, k] LCD MDS codes for various lengths n and dimensions k is a basic and interesting problem. In this paper, we firstly study the problem of the existence of q-ary [n, k] LCD MDS codes and solve it for the Euclidean case. More specifically, we show that for q>3 there exists a q-ary [n, k] Euclidean LCD MDS code, where 0≤k≤n≤q+1, or, q=2m, n=q+2 and k=3orq-1. Secondly, we investigate several constructions of new Euclidean and Hermitian LCD MDS codes. Our main techniques in constructing Euclidean and Hermitian LCD MDS codes use some linear codes with small dimension or codimension, self-orthogonal codes and generalized Reed-Solomon codes. Linear complementary-dual (LCD for short) codes are linear codes that intersect with their duals trivially. LCD codes have been used in certain communication systems. It is recently found that LCD codes can be applied in cryptography. This application of LCD codes renewed the interest in the construction of LCD codes having a large minimum distance. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are optimal in the sense that the minimum distance cannot be improved for given length and code size. Constructing LCD MDS codes is thus of significance in theory and practice. Recently, Jin constructed several classes of LCD MDS codes through generalized Reed-Solomon codes. In this paper, a different approach is proposed to obtain new LCD MDS codes from generalized Reed-Solomon codes. As far as taking-away of the symmetry constraints is concerned, as a scientifically symmetry problem, the global synthesis for antenna arrays that produce the desired radiation pattern is also a highly nonlinear optimization issue in fact. Besides this, the built criteria offer the reasonable power patterns. The consequent synthesis could be implemented by looking for a nominal pattern. When the criteria are already sufficient, it can simply do the whole synthesis process. To utilize multiple antennae, a method to choose a transmit antenna for the linear dispersion codes (LDC-TAS) is implemented in this paper. The authors used the max−min-post- signal to noise ratio (SNR) criteria to select these optimal transmitting antennae while this dependent, linear receiver is applied to the varying and slow channel. The simulated results illustrate that this max−min-post-SNR criterion outperforms the Bell Labs layered space time transmitting antenna selection (BLAST-TAS) applying the same spectral efficiency than space−time block codes (STBC)-TAS in the environment with low SNR. Furthermore, once the M antennae are selected under the selection criteria, a max−min-post-SNR rule, a novel linear antenna synthesis to linear dispersion codes on the basis of an innovative HYBRID (of mixed characters or solutions) genetic algorithm has been presented and evaluated to formulate and address the optimal problem to non-uniformly spaced and linear arrays. The restricted side-lobes level, the main-lobe width, and the shaped beam pattern are contemporarily concerned via maximizing a pretty suitable cost function through the innovational advanced genetic-algorithm-based algorithm. The method proposed in this paper can provide flexibility and a simple insertion of the a priori knowledge under a small computing pressure. At last, a computing simulation is completed well and the results are shown. It should be noticed that some extensions of the presented method could also be easily utilized without an obvious increase in the algorithm complexity.

During the digital transmission of information, errors are bound to occur. The errors may be random or burst errors. In this paper, we have obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of linear codes over that are capable of correcting -repeated burst errors of length(fixed) and -repeated burst errors of length (fixed) within sub-blocks of unequal lengths. We have also constructed a parity-check matrix for such a code.

Quasi-cyclic (QC) LDPC codes play an important role in 5G communications and have been chosen as the standard codes for 5G enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) data channel. In this paper, we study the construction of QC LDPC codes based on an arbitrary given expansion factor (or lifting degree). First, we analyze the cycle structure of QC LDPC codes and give the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of short cycles. Based on the fundamental theorem of arithmetic in number theory, we divide the integer factorization into three cases and present three classes of QC LDPC codes accordingly. Furthermore, a general construction method of QC LDPC codes with girth of at least 6 is proposed. In this paper we present several values for the next-to-minimal weights of projective Reed–Muller codes. We work over F q with q ≥ 3 since in [3] we have determined the complete values for the next-to-minimal weights of binary projective Reed–Muller codes. Relative generalized Hamming weights (RGHWs) of a linear code with respect to a linear subcode determine the security of the linear ramp secret sharing scheme based on the linear codes. They can be used to express the information leakage of the secret when some keepers of shares are corrupted. Cyclic codes are an interesting type of linear codes and have wide applications in communication and storage systems. In this paper, we investigate the RGHWs of cyclic codes of two nonzeros with respect to its irreducible cyclic subcodes. We give two formulae for RGHWs of the cyclic codes. As applications of the formulae, explicit examples are computed. Moreover, RGHWs of cyclic codes in the examples are very large, comparing with the generalized Plotkin bound of RGHWs. Symbol-pair codes introduced by Cassuto and Blaum (2010) are designed to protect against pair errors in symbol-pair read channels. The higher the minimum pair distance, the more pair errors the code can correct. Maximum distance separable (MDS) symbol-pair codes are optimal in the sense that pair distance cannot be improved for given length and code size. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, we present three lower bounds for the minimum pair distance of constacyclic codes, the first two of which generalize the previously known results due to Cassuto and Blaum (2011) and Kai et al. (2015). The third one exhibits a lower bound for the minimum pair distance of repeated-root cyclic codes. Following the very recent studies on \mathbb Z2\mathbb Z4 -additive codes, \mathbb Z2\mathbb Z2[u] -linear codes have been introduced by Aydogdu et al. In this paper, we introduce and study the algebraic structure of cyclic, constacyclic codes and their duals over the R -module \mathbb {Z}_{2}^\alpha R^\beta where R=\mathbb {Z}_{2}+u\mathbb {Z}_{2}=\left \{{0,1,u,u+1}\right \} is the ring with four elements and u^2=0 . We determine the generating independent sets and the types and sizes of both such codes and their duals. Finally, we present a bound and an optimal family of codes attaining this bound and also give some illustrative examples of binary codes that have good parameters which are obtained from the cyclic codes in \mathbb Z_2^\alpha R^\beta . The paper presents lower and upper bounds for linear codes detecting two types of repeated solid burst error. Simultaneous detection and correction of such errors are also studied. The generalized Hamming weights (GHWs) of linear codes are fundamental parameters, the knowledge of which is of great interest in many applications. However, to determine the GHWs of linear codes is difficult in general. In this paper, we study the GHWs for a family of reducible cyclic codes and obtain the complete weight hierarchy in several cases. This is achieved by extending the idea of Yang et al. into higher dimension and by employing some interesting combinatorial arguments. Most bounds on the size of codes hold for any code, whether linear or not. Notably, the Griesmer bound holds only in the linear case and so optimal linear codes are not necessarily optimal codes. In this paper, we identify code parameters $(q,d,k)$ , namely, field size, minimum distance, and combinatorial dimension, for which the Griesmer bound also holds in the (systematic) nonlinear case. Moreover, we show that the Griesmer bound does not necessarily hold for a systematic code by explicit construction of a family of optimal systematic binary codes. Constacyclic codes which generalize the classical cyclic codes have played important roles in recent constructions of many new quantum maximum distance separable (MDS) codes. However, the mathematical mechanism may not have been fully understood. In this paper, we use pseudo-cyclic codes, which is a further generalization of constacyclic codes, to construct the quantum MDS codes. Cyclic codes are a subclass of linear codes and have applications in consumer electronics, data storage systems, and communication systems as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. Let m = 2 ℓ + 1 for an integer ℓ ≥ 1 and π be a generator of GF ( 3 m ) ⁎ . In this paper, a class of cyclic codes C ( u , v ) over GF ( 3 ) with two nonzeros π u and π v is studied, where u = ( 3 m + 1 ) / 2 , and v = 2 ⋅ 3 ℓ + 1 is the ternary Welch-type exponent. Based on a result on the non-existence of solutions to certain equation over GF ( 3 m ) , the cyclic code C ( u , v ) is shown to have minimal distance four, which is the best minimal distance for any linear code over GF ( 3 ) with length 3 m − 1 and dimension 3 m − 1 − 2 m according to the Sphere Packing bound. Let ‎$‎mathbb{Z}_p‎$‎ be the finite field of integers modulo ‎$‎p‎$‎, where ‎$‎p>3‎$‎ is a prime integer. This paper presents new constructions of linear codes over ‎$‎mathbb{Z}_p‎$‎‎. Based on our construction, linear codes of length ‎$‎p-1‎$‎, including a wide family of MDS codes, and codes of length ‎$‎(p-1)^2‎$ ‎are ‎constructed.‎ we shall discuss the parameters of the codes defined while describing a generator matrix for the first family.

Secret sharing is one of the most important cryptographic protocols. Secret sharing schemes (SSS) have been created to that end. This protocol requires a dealer and several participants. The dealer divides the secret into several pieces ( the shares), and one share is given to each participant. The secret can be recovered once a subset of the participants (a coalition) shares their information. In this paper, we present a new multisecret-sharing scheme inspired by Blakley’s method based on hyperplanes intersection but adapted to a coding theoretic situation. Unique recovery requires the use of linear complementary (LCD) codes, that is, codes in which intersection with their duals is trivial. For a given code length and dimension, our system allows dealing with larger secrets and more users than other code-based schemes.
