9. The potential presence of infection may be indicated through non-invasive prediction of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein levels within the initial three days after cervical cerclage: a retrospective case-control study.

Purpose: To identify which non-invasive infection indicators could better predict post-cervical cerclage (CC) infections, and on which days after CC infection indicators should be closely monitored. Methods: The retrospective, single-center study included 619 single-pregnancy patients from January 2021 to December 2022. Patients were categorized into infected and uninfected groups based on physicians' judgments of post-CC infections. Registered information included patient characteristics, cervical insufficiency history, gestational age at CC, surgical method (McDonald/Shirodkar), purpose of CC, mid-pregnancy miscarriage/preterm birth, infection history or risk factors, and infection indices on days 1, 3, 5, and 7 after CC. Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied to reduce patient characteristic bias. Statistical analysis of C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil count (NEU), percentage of neutrophil count (NEU_P), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and procalcitonin (PCT) in the infected group compared with the uninfected group was performed using chi-square tests and t-tests. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to further assess the diagnostic value of CRP, PCT, and CRP-PCT in combination. Results: Among the 619 included patients, 206 patients were matched using PSM and subsequently assessed. PCT values on day 1 and day 3 after CC exhibited significant differences between the two groups in two statistical ways (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The CRP levels on day 1 were significantly higher in the infected group compared to the uninfected group in two statistical ways (P < 0.05). On day 3, the mean CRP value was significantly elevated in the infected group compared to the uninfected group (P < 0.05). Analyses of IL-6, WBC, NEU, and NEU_P did not yield clinically significant results. The area under the ROC curves for CRP, PCT, and CRP-PCT on day 1 and day 3 were all below 0.7. In the preventive CC group, the AUC values of CRP and CRP-PCT obtained on d1 were found to be higher than 0.7, indicating moderate diagnostic accuracy. Conclusion: For women after CC surgery, especially of preventive aim, increased serum CRP and PCT levels from post-CC day 1 to day 3 may signal a potential postoperative infection, warranting close monitoring. 10. High Thermal Conductivity of Liquid Crystal Elastomer for Stress‐Less Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells.

Flexible perovskite solar cells (FPSCs) have gained considerable attention for potential applications in portable and wearable electronics. However, the design principles governing FPSCs remain incompletely understood. In this study, two critical factors—thermal conductivity and elastic modulus—that significantly influence the thermal and mechanical stabilities of FPSCs are identified. Achieving stress‐less conditions is crucial for enhancing the performance of FPSCs. To address this, a liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) is employed as a buffer interlayer to effectively mitigate residual thermal stress. This is achieved by improving the thermal conductivity of the electron transport layer from 0.76 to 1.07 W mK−1 and softening the perovskite layer, reducing the Young's modulus from 50 to 42 GPa. The optimized thin films are utilized in both rigid and flexible PSCs, resulting in efficiencies of 24.5% and 22.8%, respectively. Remarkably, these devices demonstrated excellent thermal stability, with unpackaged LCE rigid PSCs retaining 85.6% of their initial efficiency after 504 h of aging at 85 °C. Moreover, robust mechanical stability in FPSCs is exhibited, with 88.4% of the original efficiency retained after 5400 bending cycles. Simple Summary: Rumination behavior is a crucial indicator of cattle health and welfare. The timely monitoring and analysis of this behavior can provide valuable insights into the physiological status of the animals. Distinguishing from manual observation and wearable devices, this study proposes a method using video technology for monitoring cattle rumination behavior. This method aims to track physiological indicators during rumination, including chewing count, rumination duration, and chewing frequency. This approach can help livestock managers promptly understand the health status of cattle. Furthermore, this research method offers a new perspective for the construction of smart farming, providing technical support for the intelligent transformation of the livestock industry. Cattle rumination behavior is strongly correlated with its health. Current methods often rely on manual observation or wearable devices to monitor ruminating behavior. However, the manual monitoring of cattle rumination is labor-intensive, and wearable devices often harm animals. Therefore, this study proposes a non-contact method for monitoring cattle rumination behavior, utilizing an improved YOLOv8-pose keypoint detection algorithm combined with multi-condition threshold peak detection to automatically identify chewing counts. First, we tracked and recorded the cattle's rumination behavior to build a dataset. Next, we used the improved model to capture keypoint information on the cattle. By constructing the rumination motion curve from the keypoint information and applying multi-condition threshold peak detection, we counted the chewing instances. Finally, we designed a comprehensive cattle rumination detection framework to track various rumination indicators, including chewing counts, rumination duration, and chewing frequency. In keypoint detection, our modified YOLOv8-pose achieved a 96% mAP, an improvement of 2.8%, with precision and recall increasing by 4.5% and 4.2%, enabling the more accurate capture of keypoint information. For rumination analysis, we tested ten video clips and compared the results with actual data. The experimental results showed an average chewing count error of 5.6% and a standard error of 2.23%, verifying the feasibility and effectiveness of using keypoint detection technology to analyze cattle rumination behavior. These physiological indicators of rumination behavior allow for the quicker detection of abnormalities in cattle's rumination activities, helping managers make informed decisions. Ultimately, the proposed method not only accurately monitors cattle rumination behavior but also provides technical support for precision management in animal husbandry, promoting the development of modern livestock farming. - Abstract
The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of perovskite solar cells have recently developed rapidly compared to crystalline silicon solar cells. To have an effective way to control the crystallization of perovskite thin films is the key for achieving good device performance. However, a paradox in perovskite crystallization is from the mismatch between nucleation and Oswald ripening. Usually, the large numbers of nucleation sites tend to weak Oswald ripening. Here, we proposed a new mechanism to promote the formation of nucleation sites by reducing surface energy from 44.9 mN/m to 36.1 mN/m, to spontaneously accelerate the later Oswald ripening process by improving the grain solubility through the elastic modulus regulation. The ripening rate is increased from 2.37 Åm ⋅ s−1 to 4.61 Åm ⋅ s−1 during annealing. Finally, the solar cells derived from the optimized films showed significantly improved PCE from 23.14 % to 25.32 %. The long‐term stability tests show excellent thermal stability (the optimized device without encapsulation maintaining 82 % of its initial PCE after 800 h aging at 85 °C) and an improved light stability under illumination. The inorganic-carbonate dual-phase membrane represents a class of dense membranes that are fabricated using diverse support materials, ranging from metals to ceramics. This dual-phase membrane consists of a porous metal or ceramic support with an introduced carbonate phase within the support pores. Compared with polymer and zeolite membranes, inorganic-carbonate dual-phase membranes exhibit exceptional CO
2 selectivity at elevated temperatures (>500 °C), making them an ideal choice for high-temperature CO2 separation in power plant systems. The present paper provides a comprehensive overview of the separation principle, significant models, and preparation techniques employed in carbonate dual-phase membranes for CO2 separation. The present study aims to discuss key factors that limit the CO2 permeation performance and stability of membranes, while also exploring the potential applications of dual-phase membranes in various fields. The identification of key challenges in the future development of the carbonate dual-phase membrane has been highlighted in this work. The future trajectory of research and development should be directed toward overcoming these challenges, encompassing the synthesis technology of membranes, balance optimization of membrane structure and performance, modification of physical and chemical properties of molten carbonate, and advancement in high-temperature sealing techniques, as well as exploration of diverse membrane reactors based on carbonate dual-phase membranes for prospective applications. The elite bull plays an extremely important role in the genetic progression of the dairy cow population. The previous results indicated the potential positive relationship of large scrotal circumference (SC) with improved semen volume, concentration, and motility. In order to improve bull's semen quantity and quality by selection, it is necessary to estimate the genetic parameters of semen traits and their correlations with other conformation traits such as SC that could be used for an indirect selection. In this study, the genetic parameters of seven semen traits (n = 66,260) and nine conformation traits (n = 3,642) of Holstein bulls (n = 453) were estimated by using the bivariate repeatability animal model with the average information-restricted maximum likelihood (AI-REML) approach. The results showed that the estimated heritabilities of semen traits ranged from 0.06 (total number of motile sperm, TNMS) to 0.37 (percentage of abnormal sperm, PAS) and conformation traits ranged from 0.23 (pin width, PW) to 0.69 (hip height, HH). The highest genetic correlations were found between semen volume per ejaculation (SVPE), semen concentration per ejaculation (SCPE), total number of sperm (TNS), and TNMS traits that were 0.97, 0.98, 1.00, and 0.99, respectively. Phenotypic correlations between SC and SVPE, SCPE, TNS, and TNMS were 0.35, 0.35, 0.48, and 0.42, respectively. In summary, the moderate or high heritability of semen traits indicates that genetic improvement of semen quality by selection is feasible, where SC could be a useful trait for indirect selection or as correlated information to improve semen quantity and production in the practical bull breeding programs. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with excellent photoelectric properties have attracted much attention in recent years. However, the solution manufacturing of PSCs inevitably introduces a large number of defects (both bulk and surface defects), which seriously affect the performance of PSCs. Defect passivation from additive engineering is an effective and simple strategy. Among these additives, polymers are increasingly attracting attention due to their excellent properties, such as adjustable structures, multiple functional groups, excellent stability, and low cost, which can further promote the commercialization of PSC technology. However, the application of polymers in PSCs have encountered some obstacles due to a lack of systematic studies, such as unelucidated interactions between polymers and perovskites, the frequent trial‐and‐error process used in material selection, and the lack of effective guidelines. In this review, the application of polymers in various layers of PSCs devices is first summarized. Then, three main roles of polymers in PSCs are summarized, including crystallization regulation, the mechanical stability enhancement of flexible perovskite solar cells (FPSCs), and their use as undoped hole transport materials (HTMs). More importantly, machine learning (ML) is proposed to design and select polymers as passivators and HTMs for PSCs. In this study, an electronic nose model composed of seven kinds of metal oxide semiconductor sensors was developed to distinguish the milk source (the dairy farm to which milk belongs), estimate the content of milk fat and protein in milk, to identify the authenticity and evaluate the quality of milk. The developed electronic nose is a low-cost and non-destructive testing equipment. (1) For the identification of milk sources, this paper uses the method of combining the electronic nose odor characteristics of milk and the component characteristics to distinguish different milk sources, and uses Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis , LDA) for dimensionality reduction analysis, and finally use three machine learning algorithms such as Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF) to build a milk source (cow farm) Identify the model and evaluate and compare the classification effects. The experimental results prove that the classification effect of the SVM-LDA model based on the electronic nose odor characteristics is better than other single feature models, and the accuracy of the test set reaches 91.5%. The RF-LDA and SVM-LDA models based on the fusion feature of the two have the best effect Set accuracy rate is as high as 96%. (2) The three algorithms, Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and Random Forest (RF), are used to construct the electronic nose odor data for milk fat rate and protein rate. The method of estimating the model, the results show that the RF model has the best estimation performance( R2 =0.9399 for milk fat; R2=0.9301for milk protein). And it prove that the method proposed in this study can improve the estimation accuracy of milk fat and protein, which provides a technical basis for predicting the quality of dairy products.

Simple Summary: Discovering estrus biomarkers is of utmost importance to develop an easy, reliable, and accurate estrus detection method in dairy cows. The proteomics approach is an attractive and powerful tool and recently has been used to explore proteomic alterations in a variety of bodily fluids to identify the relative biomarkers. Milk produced by dairy cows is a complex biofluid consisting of hundreds of different components that may be a good source for biomarker discovery. In this study, the proteomics approach was performed on milk sampled from estrus and non-estrus dairy cows to identify potential biomarkers of estrus, which may be helpful for further development of an easy and reliable estrus detection method in dairy cows. Efficient reproductive management of dairy cows depends primarily upon accurate estrus identification. However, the currently available estrus detection methods, such as visual observation, are poor. Hence, there is an urgent need to discover novel biomarkers in non-invasive bodily fluids such as milk to reliably detect estrus status. Proteomics is an emerging and promising tool to identify biomarkers. In this study, the proteomics approach was performed on milk sampled from estrus and non-estrus dairy cows to identify potential biomarkers of estrus. Dairy cows were synchronized and timed for artificial insemination, and the cows with insemination leading to conception were considered to be in estrus at the day of insemination (day 0). Milk samples of day 0 (estrus group) and day −3 (non-estrus group) from dairy cows confirming to be pregnant were collected for proteomic analysis using the tandem mass tags (TMT) proteomics approach. A total of 89 differentially expressed proteins were identified, of which 33 were upregulated and 56 were downregulated in the estrus milk compared with the non-estrus milk. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis showed that acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase α (ACACA), apolipoprotein B (APOB), NAD(P)H steroid dehydrogenase-like (NSDHL), perilipin 2 (PLIN2), and paraoxonase 1 (PON1) participated in lipid binding, lipid storage, lipid localization, and lipid metabolic process, as well as fatty acid binding, fatty acid biosynthesis, and fatty acid metabolism, and these processes are well documented to be related to estrus regulation. These milk proteins are proposed as possible biomarkers of estrus in dairy cows. Further validation studies are required in a large population to determine their potential as estrus biomarkers. To date, the key factor influencing the long‐term stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) remains unknown because of the many influencing factors. In this work, through machine learning, the influences of five factors, including grain size, defect density, bandgap, fluorescence lifetime, and surface roughness, on the efficiency and stability of PSCs have been revealed. It is found that the bandgap has the greatest influence on the efficiency, and the surface roughness and grain size are most influential to the long‐term stability. A mathematical model is given to predict efficiency based on fluorescence lifetime and bandgap. Guided by the model, four groups of experiments are conducted to confirm the machine‐learning predictions and a PSC with 23.4% efficiency and excellent long‐term stability is obtained, as manifested by retention of 97.6% of the initial efficiency after 3288 h aging in the ambient environment, the best stability under these conditions. Podocytes damage and mesangial cells expansion are two important pathological manifestations of glomerular injury in early diabetes. Telmisartan, as an angiotensin type 1 (AT
1 ) receptor inhibitor, could improve advanced glycation end (AGE) products or angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ)-induced podocytes injury including detachment or apoptosis. In this current paper, we first confirmed the protective effect of telmisartan on early diabetic kidney injury in type 1 diabetic rats. Telmisartan reduced the loss of podocin and inhibited the expression of α-SMA, reflecting its protective effect on podocyte injury and mesangial proliferation, respectively. More interestingly we observed an opposite effect of telmisartan on the cell viability and apoptosis of podocytes and mesangial cells in a high-glucose environment in vitro. The anti-apoptotic effect of telmisartan on podocytes might be related to its inhibition of swiprosin-1 (a protein can mediate high glucose-induced podocyte apoptosis) expression. While telmisartan induced a high expression of PPARγ in mesangial cells, and GW9662 (a PPARγ antagonist) partially inhibited telmisartan-induced apoptosis and reduced viability of mesangial cells. In addition, high glucose-induced PKCβ1/TGFβ1 expression in mesangial cells could be blocked by telmisartan. 26. Emergency hospitalizations for adverse drug events in China: Clinical pharmacists' approach to assessment and categorization.

Purpose Little is known about emergency hospitalizations owing to adverse drug events (ADEs) in Chinese populations. The aim of this study was to identify the types and characteristics of ADEs as well as estimate the length of hospital stay and ADE‐related costs in a hospital emergency setting in China. Methods: This prospective study was conducted in the emergency department of our hospital from April 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. ADEs of patients admitted to the emergency department were collected by a clinical pharmacist during daily pharmacy rounds. Results: Of 4020 cases admitted to the emergency department, 198 emergency ADE‐related hospitalizations (4.93%) were noted, which were classified into certain (n = 0, 0%), probable (n = 122, 61.6%), and possible (n = 76, 38.4%). The ADE was serious in 93.9% of the 198 cases. Ten cases were fatal, and two cases were life‐threatening. More than 80% of the emergency ADE‐related hospitalization cases were of patients over 60 years. The pharmacological agents implicated in the hospitalizations were oral antiplatelet agents (20.7%), oral hypoglycemic agents (16.7%), insulin (11.1%), and antihypertensive agents (9.1%). The average length of ADE‐related hospital stay was 10 (7.0–14.0) days. ADE‐related costs ranged from $1684.68 to $4531.35 for each hospitalization. The length of ADE‐related hospital stay and associated costs were statistically significant. Most ADEs (n = 146, 73.7%) were preventable. Conclusions: Most emergency ADE‐related hospitalizations in older adults resulted from lack of medication monitoring or inappropriate medication. Improved management of medicines by clinical pharmacists has the potential to reduce ADE‐related hospitalizations in older adults in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To overcome the acquired resistance and the significant side-effects of the reported drugs, four new ruthenium(II) complexes with alkynyl (Ru1, Ru2, Ru3, Ru4) were designed and synthesized. Ru1, Ru2, Ru3 and Ru4 were characterized by ESI-MS, 1H NMR, 1H–1H COSY NMR and elemental analysis. Compared with Ru2, Ru3, Ru4 and cisplatin, the anti-tumor experiments in vitro and vivo confirmed that Ru1 could most effectively inhibit tumor growth. In the experiments of safety evaluation in vivo, Ru1 could avoid any detectable side-effects compared with cisplatin. DNA binding experiments and cell cycle experiments showed that Ru1 exhibited the strongest DNA binding ability and interfered with the cell cycle by inserting DNA to inhibit tumor growth. The off-target activation of photosensitizers is one of the most well-known obstacles to effective photodynamic therapy (PDT). The selected activation of photosensitizers in cancer cells is highly desired to overcome this problem. We developed a strategy that enabled diselenide bonds to link hyaluronic acid (HA) and photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6) to assemble the micelles (HA-sese-Ce6 NPs) that can target cancer and achieve a redox responsive release of drugs to enhance the PDT efficiency in breast cancer. The HA was used to form a hydrophilic shell that can target cluster of differentiation 44 (CD44) on the cancer cells. The selenium-containing core is easily dissembled in a redox environment to release Ce6. The triggered release of Ce6 in a redox condition and the positive feedback release by activated Ce6 were observed in vitro. In cytotoxicity assays and in vitro cellular uptake assays, the increased PDT efficiency and targeted internalization of HA-sese-Ce6 NPs in the cells were verified, compared to a free Ce6 treated group. Similar results were showed in the therapeutic study and in vivo fluorescence imaging in an orthotopic mammary fat pad tumor model. In addition, a significant inhibition of metastasis was found after the HA-sese-Ce6 NPs treatment. In general, this study promises an ingenious and easy strategy for improved PDT efficiency. Reverse transcriptase-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is a reliable technique for measuring and evaluating gene expression during variable biological processes. To facilitate gene expression studies, normalization of genes of interest relative to stable reference genes is crucial. The western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), the main vector of tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), is a destructive invasive species. In this study, the expression profiles of 11 candidate reference genes from nonviruliferous and viruliferous F. occidentalis were investigated. Five distinct algorithms, geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, the ΔC
t method, and RefFinder, were used to determine the performance of these genes. geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and RefFinder identified heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), heat shock protein 60 (HSP60), elongation factor 1 α, and ribosomal protein l32 (RPL32) as the most stable reference genes, and the ΔCt method identified HSP60, HSP70, RPL32, and heat shock protein 90 as the most stable reference genes. Additionally, two reference genes were sufficient for reliable normalization in nonviruliferous and viruliferous F. occidentalis. In this paper, nanosized ZnFe 2 O 4 with different morphologies were prepared by electrospinning method. The choice of initial parameters, such as PVP concentration, metal salt concentration, electrostatic voltage, calcination temperature and calcination rate, were investigated to prepare desired morphologies. The as-prepared samples exhibited various shapes of nano-particle, nano-rods, nano-beads and nano-fiber. The relationship between microstructure and electromagnetic properties was discussed in detail. It has been found that the saturation magnetization of ZnFe 2 O 4 ferrite not changed significantly with the various morphologies and the values were nearly 13 emu/g. However, the coercivity was varied with the different morphologies, and the maximum value of 48.79 Oe was observed in the ZnFe 2 O 4 nano-fiber. Moreover, the magnetic loss capacity of ZnFe 2 O 4 was improved with the enhancement of the morphology anisotropy. The various shaped ZnFe 2 O 4 can be promising lightweight microwave absorbers and it is significant to develop novel microwave absorption mechanism of ZnFe 2 O 4 ferrite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

33. Kinetics Controlled Perovskite Crystallization for High Performance Solar Cells.

The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of perovskite solar cells have recently developed rapidly compared to crystalline silicon solar cells. To have an effective way to control the crystallization of perovskite thin films is the key for achieving good device performance. However, a paradox in perovskite crystallization is from the mismatch between nucleation and Oswald ripening. Usually, the large numbers of nucleation sites tend to weak Oswald ripening. Here, we proposed a new mechanism to promote the formation of nucleation sites by reducing surface energy from 44.9 mN/m to 36.1 mN/m, to spontaneously accelerate the later Oswald ripening process by improving the grain solubility through the elastic modulus regulation. The ripening rate is increased from 2.37 Åm ⋅ s
-1 to 4.61 Åm ⋅ s-1 during annealing. Finally, the solar cells derived from the optimized films showed significantly improved PCE from 23.14 % to 25.32 %. The long-term stability tests show excellent thermal stability (the optimized device without encapsulation maintaining 82 % of its initial PCE after 800 h aging at 85 °C) and an improved light stability under illumination. 34. Integrating Multidisciplinary Individualized Medication Recommendations Into the Traditional Pharmacists' Consultation Method: A Retrospective Study Using Propensity Score Matching Analysis.

Chinese clinical pharmacists consider improving the quantity and quality of consultations to be an important task in providing better pharmaceutical care. To achieve this goal, we developed a clinical pharmacist consultation method using multidisciplinary individualized medication recommendations (MIMRs) and studied the effects of its implementation. A retrospective study of 812 clinical pharmacist-led consultations was conducted. In the pre-intervention group, medication advice was given based on the purpose of the consultation. In the post-intervention group, a consultation method using MIMRs was implemented, in which clinical pharmacists with specialties in anticoagulation, gastroenterology, and nutrition were asked to give individualized medication recommendations. Outcomes, including the effectiveness rate of consultations (ERC) and acceptance rate of consultations (ARC), were compared between the two groups using propensity score matching method. Patterns and numbers of consultations and individualized medication recommendations were also compared. The results showed that the ERC in the post-intervention group compared with the ERC in the pre-intervention group was 83.3% vs 74.0%, respectively (P < .05). Significant difference was also shown between the two groups in ARC (98.4% vs 92.2%, P < .05). The total number of consultations increased, as did the number of general consultations, multidisciplinary/difficult consultations, anti-infection consultations, and non-anti-infection consultations specifically. As a result, we proposed that the implementation of MIMRs can improve the effects of treatment and increase the number of consultations by pharmacists, which is worthy of further promotion to better serve physicians and patients.

35. Prognostic implications of combined high expression of CD47 and MCT1 in breast cancer: a retrospective study during a 10-year period.

Background: Clinical outcome after surgery of breast cancer needs more prognostic markers to predict currently. Cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47), due to its overexpression in various tumors and ability to inhibit phagocytosis, has been identified as a new immune checkpoint. Monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1) is a protein involved in the immunomodulatory activities of the tumor microenvironment (TME) by maintaining the pH through aerobic glycolysis., Methods: We explored the expression of CD47 and MCT1 in breast invasive ductal carcinoma specimens to determine their association with prognosis. A total of 137 breast invasive ductal carcinoma tissues were collected for CD47 and MCT1 immunohistochemical staining., Results: Statistically analyzed, our study first indicated that in both univariate and multivariate analyses, the coexpression of CD47 and MCT1 was an independent prognostic factor for a poor 10-year overall survival rate (10-OS) and 10-year progression-free survival rate (10-DFS) (P<0.05). In addition, the combined high expression of these two markers also led to worse OS and PFS rates in the TNM (II + III), histologic grade (I + II), HER2 overexpression and basal-like subgroups. High expression of CD47 and MCT1 and combined high expression of CD47 and MCT1 were associated with clinicopathological parameters, such as histological grade, TNM stage, death status, and recurrence status in breast cancer patients. Increasing evidence suggests the involvement of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in various biological process including cancer progression and drug resistance. LncRNA HOXD cluster antisense RNA 1 (HOXD-AS1) had been demonstrated to act as an oncogenic gene, contributing to the development and progression of several cancers. However, its functional role and molecular mechanism underlying glioma progression and cisplatin (DDP) resistance has not been well elucidated. In this study, we found that HOXD-AS1 was up-regulated in glioma tissues and cells and negatively correlated with survival time. HOXD-AS1 knockdown suppressed proliferation, migration and invasion as well as enhanced DDP sensitivity of glioma cells. Moreover, HOXD-AS1 could function as a miR-204 sponge in glioma cells. Overexpression of miR-204 could mimic the functional role of down-regulated HOXD-AS1 in glioma cells. Furthermore, miR-204 inhibition reversed the effect of HOXD-AS1 knockdown on cancer progression and DDP sensitivity of glioma cells. In conclusion, knockdown of HOXD-AS1 suppressed proliferation, migration and invasion and enhanced DDP sensitivity of glioma cells through sequestering miR-204, providing a promising therapeutic target for glioma patients., (Copyright © 2019 The Authors.
