This study presents a comparative simulation of electrical steels with different grain orientations in three-phase dry-type power distribution transformers. Electrical steels modeled as three-phase transformer cores are analyzed and compared. In this context, time-dependent simulations of three-dimensional transformer models were performed using the coupling method based on finite element analysis to determine core losses and thermal behavior differences. This study reveals the effects of different grades of core materials on time-dependent core temperature depend on power losses and magnetic flux density. For this purpose, a 100 kVA three-strand three-phase dry-type transformer was used to simulate and prove the concept, and the simulation results were compared. As a result, according to mathematical calculations, core losses for M3, M4, and M5 were 298 W, 340 W, and 402 W, respectively, while the error rates between them were found to be 2.95%, 1.1%, and 5.5%, with the simulation results. The maximum temperature values obtained as a result of the time-dependent thermal analysis according to these loss values are 70.71°C, 70.724°C, and 80.619°C, respectively. These results show how important the material selection is in terms of design, efficiency, and transformer life.

All rights reserved.Transformer optimization is a programming problem with an objective function for calculating the characteristics of a transformer in detail according to user requirements. Especially in recent years, efficient and optimum design of the transformer has become increasingly important. This study presents a comparative analysis of the application of metaheuristic optimization algorithms in transformer design for maximum efficiency of a three-phase dry-type transformer. In addition, transformer modeling was done using FEM analysis, and its magnetic characteristics were shown. The main contribution of this paper is to optimize the determined basic design parameters with optimization methods that have not been used in transformer optimization before and to maximize efficiency by reducing losses. During this process, using the loss constants of the materials in the basic loss equation for core loss, this process was tried to be carried out without any change in the method in applications to be made with different materials. This situation also strengthens the accuracy of the applied method. Crow Search (CSA), Moth-Flame Optimization (MFO), Vortex Optimization (VOA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Social Learning-Particle Swarm Optimization (SL-PSO) algorithms were used in the study. The loss values were obtained by performing loaded and unloaded FEM analysis with the ANSYS/Maxwell program. As a result, the best result was obtained with SL-PSO as max 99,05%.

This study offers two support vector machine (SVM) models for fault detection and fault classification, respectively. Differentshort-circuit events were generated using a 154 kV transmission line modeled in MATLAB/Simulink software. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT)is performed on the measured single terminal current signals before fault detection stage. Three level wavelet energy values obtained for eachof three-phase currents were used as input features for the detector. After fault detection, half cycle (10 ms) of three-phase current signals wasrecorded by a 20 kHz sampling rate. The recorded currents signals were used as input parameters for the multi-class SVM classifier. The resultsof the validation tests have demonstrated that quite a reliable fault detection and classification system can be developed using SVM. The faultsgenerated were used for training and testing of SVM classifiers. An SVM-based classification and detection model was fully implemented inMATLAB software. These models were comprehensively tested under different conditions. The effects of the fault impedance, fault inceptionangle, mother wavelet and fault location were all investigated. Finally, simulation results verified that the study proposed can be used for faultdetection and classification on the transmission line.

Research on alternative dielectric gases to eliminate the disadvantages of SF6, which is widely used in GIS and switching systems in the power system engineering, has been an important study topic in the literature for nearly 40 years. Because of environmental priorities defined by international agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol and Doha Amendment, the restrictions on the use of SF6 make these studies an obligation. Although the number of alternative dielectric gases studied for this purpose is quite high, these gases can be classified under the titles of non-synthetics, hydrocarbons (HCs), fluorocarbons (FCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), fluoronitriles (FNs), fluoroketones (FKs) and other synthetic gases. In this study, the gases classified under these titles are compared using the dielectric constant relative to SF6, Global Warming Potential (GWP), atmospheric lifetime, boiling point and toxicity parameters used in the comparison of dielectric gases. When compared with these parameters, non-synthetic air, CO2, and N2, C3F7CN from FNs, and C5F10O and C6F12O from FKs stand out among alternative gases to SF6. These alternatives are used in some innovative power system industry applications and have a widespread use potential in the insulating gas industry instead of SF6., Güç sistem mühendisliğinde GIS ve anahtarlama sistemlerinde yaygın olarak kullanılan SF6’nın dezavantajlarını ortadan kaldırmak için alternatif yalıtkan gaz araştırmaları, yaklaşık 40 yıldır literatürde önemli araştırma konularından birisidir. Kyoto Protokolü ve Doha Değişikliği gibi uluslararası anlaşmalarla tanımlanan çevresel önceliklerin bir sonucu olarak, SF6'nın kullanımına ilişkin sınırlamalar bu çalışmaları bir zorunluluk haline getirmektedir. Bu amaçla alternatif yalıtkan gazlarla ilgili çalışmalarının sayısı oldukça fazla olmasına rağmen, bu gazlar sentetik olmayan, hidrokarbonlar (HCs), florokarbonlar (FCs), hidroflorokarbonlar (HFcs), floronitriller (FNs), floroketonlar (FKs) ve diğer sentetik gazlar başlıkları altında sınıflandırılabilmektedir. Bu çalışma, bu başlıklar altında sınıflandırılan gazların yalıtkan gazların sınıflandırılmasında kullanılan SF6’ya göre yalıtkanlık katsayısı, Küresel Isınma Potansiyeli, atmosferik yaşam ömrü, kaynama noktası ve toksiklik parametrelerini kullanarak karşılaştırmaktadır. Bu karşılaştırmada, SF6’ya alternatif gazlar arasında sentetik olmayan gazlardan hava, CO2 ve N2, floronitrillerden C3F7N ve floroketonlardan C5F10O ve C6F12O öne çıkmaktadır. Bu alternatifler bazı yenilikçi güç sistem endüstrisi uygulamalarında kullanılmakta ve SF6’nın yerine yalıtkan gaz endüstrisinde yaygın bir kullanım potansiyeline sahiptir.

In this study, a high voltage Marx generator is produced in coaxial structure. A literature review is performed and previous studies are examined before production. The structure of the Marx generators developed in these studies, the output voltage amplitude, rise time etc. parameters are examined. Then the production of the generator is started and the output voltage of the generator, capacitor number, stage number and sphere size of the spark gap etc. are identified. Later, the production studies of the generator are started, capacitors are soldered for each stage and sphere electrodes are mounted. Eight stages are produced and these stages are connected with each other. Then the return conductors of the Marx generator are manufactured and connected. After that, power supply of the generator is designed and produced. The connection between the power generator and the Marx generator, the earth connection of the generator are made. Following the completion of the production studies, experimental studies are started. The generator is operated at various voltages and the charging voltage is measured. As a result, some modifications are made for power supply. The charge voltage is determined for the safe operating range and sphere gaps are optimized according to this voltage amplitude. Following the observation of the correct operation of the Marx generator, the measurement system is produced and the output voltage of the generator was measured through a capacitive voltage divider. The amplitude of the output voltage, rise time and fall time are recorded in the oscilloscope. Various load combinations were created with various front resistors and tail resistors, and the measured signals were recorded. In these signals, the effect of resistance change on the output of the Marx generator output was observed Bu çalışmada koaksiyel yapıda bir yüksek gerilim Marx üreteci üretilmiştir. Üretim çalışmalarının tamamlanmasının ardından deneysel çalışmalara geçilmiştir. Üreteç çeşitli gerilimlerde çalıştırılmış ve şarj gerilimi ölçülmüştür. Bunların sonucunda güç kaynağında birtakım değişiklikler yapılmıştır. Şarj gerilimi güvenli çalışma aralığı için belirlenmiş ve bu gerilim genliğine göre küre aralıkları optimize edilmiştir. Marx üretecinin sorunsuz çalıştığının gözlenmesinin ardından ölçüm sistemi bağlantısı yapılmış ve üretecin çıkış gerilimi bir kapasitif gerilim bölücü aracılığıyla ölçülmeye çalışılmıştır. Çıkış geriliminin genliği, yükselme zamanı, düşme zamanı parametreleri osiloskopta gözlenerek kaydedilmiştir. Çeşitli cephe direnci ve kuyruk dirençleriyle farklı yük kombinasyonları olusturulmus ve ölçülen sinyaller kaydedilmiştir. Bu sinyallerde, direnc değişimlerinin Marx üreteci çıkış gerilimine etkisi gözlenmiştir

Yenilenebilir enerji kaynakları elektrik üretiminde giderek payını arttırmaktadır. Türkiye elektrik sisteminde de başta rüzgâr ve güneş enerjisine dayalı üretim tesisleri olmak üzere yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarına dayalı üretim tesislerinin kurulması teşvik edilmektedir. Türkiye coğrafi olarak büyük bir rüzgâr ve güneş potansiyeline sahiptir. Rüzgâr enerjisi bakımından özellikle batı bölgeleri, güneş enerjisi bakımından da orta bölgeleri önemli bir potansiyele sahiptir. Bu çalışma kapsamında Türkiye'nin sahip olduğu güneş enerjisi potansiyeli belirlenmiş ve Konya ili Karapınar ilçesine kurulması planlanan büyük çaplı güneş enerjisi santralinin sekonder frekans kontrolüne olan etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda hazırlanan çalışma ile Türkiye elektrik sistemi sekonder frekans kontrolü mekanizmasının büyük çaplı güneş enerjisi santraline uygunluğu hakkında bilgi verilecek ve geleceğe yönelik gerekli önlemlerden bahsedilecektir. Renewable energy sources are increasing their share in electricity generation. In the Turkish electricity system, the establishment of generation facilities based on renewable energy sources, especially wind and solar power, is encouraged. Turkey has a large wind and solar energy potential geographically. Western part of Turkey have enormous wind energy potential, while the middle parts of Turkey have huge solar energy potential. In this study, the total solar energy potential of Turkey was determined and the effects of the large scale solar power plant, which is planned to be completed in Karapınar district of Konya to the secondary frequency control performance were investigated. With this thesis study, the information about the compatibility of the secondary frequency control performance of power system in Turkey with the large-scale solar energy plant will be given and the necessary precautions for the future will be mentioned.
