The deterioration of fiber properties during recycling processes, especially the loss of tensile strength, raises concerns that paper products made from recycled fibers might not satisfy quality requirements. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the deterioration of tensile strength and the damage in paper sheets made of recycled fibers using the theory of damage mechanics and machine learning methods. Experiments were carried out to recycle wood fibers and nonwood fibers four times, and the physicochemical properties of the handsheets made from these fibers were measured after each recycling. Water retention value and relative bonded area were selected as the features to estimate and predict tensile strength during recycling because they had strong correlations with tensile strength. This paper proposed a damage index to quantitatively express the severity of the damage in paper sheets based on the experimental investigation and the theory of damage mechanics. Thus, the deterioration of tensile strength could be estimated and predicted. To determine the damage index, a curve fitting model based on the hyperbolic theory of pulp properties was developed. The proposed quantitative expression of the damage index is: D = (Ds - h)²/a2 - (Dh - k)²/b2, where the coefficients were determined through the curve fitting model. This paper also developed a long short-term memory recurrent neural network model to determine the damage index according to the sequence of recycling. Both models were trained with the experimental data of water retention value and relative bonded area. The estimation and prediction by the curve fitting model were more accurate than those of the neural network model. The root mean square errors by the curve fitting model were 0.0278 for estimation, 0.1667 for prediction; and by the neural network model were 0.2445 for estimation, 0.2206 for prediction, respectively. Celebrating Construction Management and Economics's (CME) 40th anniversary, the goal of this paper is to investigate the knowledge structure and evolution of research trends in CME since its inception. The associated objectives include: (1) analyzing CME's scholarly characteristics; (2) studying CME's publication output over time; (3) examining interconnectivities between CME's research trends; and (4) exploring the potential citation impact of recently published CME's papers. In doing so, this paper implemented a multistep methodology that consists of descriptive assessment, social network analysis (SNA), and predictive machine learning (ML). Results of descriptive assessment showed that CME has witnessed over the years a noticeable growth in the number of publications, citation trends, and collaborative research as depicted increased co-authorship, and that highest percentage of publications were related to "Strategy, Decision Making, Risk, and Finance", "Project planning and Design" and "Contemporary Issues". Output of SNA highlights that research areas with the highest interconnectivity included "Strategy, Decision Making, Risk and Finance" and "Project Planning and Design", and "Labor and Personnel Issues". Furthermore, predictive ML revealed that CME papers have a high probability of becoming high impact publications. In addition to that, the predictive ML results re-emphasized the outcomes of the performed descriptive assessment by reflecting the importance of "Contemporary Issues", "Organizational Issues", "Strategy, Decision Making, Risk, and Finance", and "Labor and Personnel Issues" as emerging research topics with increased potential impact in the future. Quantum Machine Learning is an interdisciplinary field that combines the principles of quantum physics, quantum computers, and machine learning to enhance computational performance. In recent years, there have been significant advancements in the field of quantum machine learning. Researchers have developed quantum algorithms for various tasks. Furthermore, quantum machine learning has been applied to various domains, such as chemistry, cryptography, and finance. Previous bibliometric surveys in this area covered the period from 2014 to 2020. However, as demonstrated in this paper, the pace of publication has increased significantly from 2018 to the present. Therefore, it has become essential to provide a new analysis of the current state of research in this field. In this paper, we deployed visualization tools to analyze co-authorships, co-occurrences, and keyword density in this research area. Our study covers and analyzes a total of 918 publications from the Web of Science database and 1171 publications from the Scopus database from 2006 to 2022. Although breast cancer (BC) deaths have decreased over time, it remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. With the technical advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and availability of healthcare data, many researchers have attempted to employ machine learning (ML) techniques to gain a better understanding of this disease. The present study was a systematic literature review (SLR) of the use of machine learning techniques in breast cancer screening (BCS) between 2011 and 2021. A total of 66 papers were selected and analysed to address nine criteria: year of publication, publication venue, paper type, BCS modality, empirical type, ML technique, performance, advantages and disadvantages, and dataset used. The results showed that mammography was the most frequently used BCS modality, and that classification was the most used ML objective. Recognition of spatio-temporal traffic patterns at the network-wide level plays an important role in data-driven intelligent transport systems (ITS) and is a basis for applications such as short-term prediction and scenario-based traffic management. Common practice in the transport literature is to rely on well-known general unsupervised machine-learning methods (e.g., k-means, hierarchical, spectral, DBSCAN) to select the most representative structure and number of day-types based solely on internal evaluation indices. These are easy to calculate but are limited since they only use information in the clustered dataset itself. In addition, the quality of clustering should ideally be demonstrated by external validation criteria, by expert assessment or the performance in its intended application. The main contribution of this paper is to test and compare the common practice of internal validation with external validation criteria represented by the application to short-term prediction, which also serves as a proxy for more general traffic management applications. When compared to external evaluation using short-term prediction, internal evaluation methods have a tendency to underestimate the number of representative day-types needed for the application. Additionally, the paper investigates the impact of using dimensionality reduction. By using just 0.1% of the original dataset dimensions, very similar clustering and prediction performance can be achieved, with up to 20 times lower computational costs, depending on the clustering method. K-means and agglomerative clustering may be the most scalable methods, using up to 60 times fewer computational resources for very similar prediction performance to the p-median clustering. There is currently a lot of interest in applying machine learning (ML) techniques to problems in geotechnical (soil and rock) engineering and adjacent fields such as engineering geology. Recent literature emphasizes the need to focus beyond methodological challenges, and the importance of data centricity, transparency, suitability for practice and geotechnical context – together, the so-called "data-centric geotechnics". This review paper offers additional perspective to be contemplated for successful applications of ML in geotechnics: one should explore and discuss (i) the problem to be solved, (ii) the type, quality and quantity of data, and (iii) the methodology/algorithm. The paper further discusses that more strict guidelines and protocols are required for evaluating data and trained ML models if they are to be accepted and successfully integrated into practice. In the transition to data-centric practices, geotechnical engineering, a traditionally data-poor field, has much to learn from fields where decision-making based on data has a long and rich history. Poverty has always been a global concern that has restricted human development. The first goal (SDG 1) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to eliminate all forms of poverty all over the world. The establishment of a scientific and effective localized SDG 1 evaluation and monitoring method is the key to achieving SDG 1. This paper proposes SDG 1 China district and county-level localization evaluation method based on multi-source remote sensing data for the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework. The temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of China's poverty areas and their SDG 1 evaluation values in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 have been analyzed. Based on the SDGs global indicator framework, this paper first constructed SDG 1 China's district and county localization indicator system and then extracted multidimensional feature factors from nighttime light images, land cover data, and digital elevation model data. Secondly, we establish SDG 1 China's localized partial least squares estimation model and SDG 1 China's localized machine learning estimation model. Finally, we analyze and verify the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of China's poverty areas and counties and their SDG 1 evaluation values. The results show that SDG 1 China's district and county localization indicator system proposed in this study and SDG 1 China's localized partial least squares estimation model can better reflect the poverty level of China's districts and counties. The estimated model R2 is 0.65, which can identify 72.77% of China's national poverty counties. From 2012 to 2018, the spatial distribution pattern of SDG evaluation values in China's districts and counties is that the SDG evaluation values gradually increase from western China to eastern China. In addition, the average SDG 1 evaluation value of China's districts and counties increased by 23% from 2012 to 2018. This paper is oriented to the United Nations SDGs framework, explores the SDG 1 localized evaluation method of China's districts and counties based on multisource remote sensing data, and provides a scientific and rapid regional poverty monitoring and evaluation program for the implementation of the 2030 agenda poverty alleviation goals. This editorial summarizes the papers published in issue 17(2) (2022). The first paper evaluates logistic regression and machine-learning methods for predicting firm bankruptcy. The second paper demonstrates that machine learning outperforms existing tools to improve the estimation of regional input–output tables. The third paper investigates whether network centrality depends on the probability that a tie between two nodes is formed, as well as its intensity. The fourth paper sets out a Bayesian estimation technique to estimate a spatial autoregressive multinomial logit model. The fifth paper develops a statistic to test for several misspecification problems in spatial econometric models. Traditional health systems mostly rely on rules created by experts to offer adaptive interventions to patients. However, with recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques, health-related systems are becoming more sophisticated with higher accuracy in providing more personalized interventions or treatments to individual patients. In this paper, we present an extensive literature review to explore the current trends in ML-based adaptive systems for health and well-being. We conduct a systematic search for articles published between January 2011 and April 2022 and selected 87 articles that met our inclusion criteria for review. The selected articles target 18 health and wellness domains including disease management, assistive healthcare, medical diagnosis, mental health, physical activity, dietary management, health monitoring, substance use, smoking cessation, homeopathy remedy finding, patient privacy, mobile health (mHealth) apps finder, clinician knowledge representation for neonatal emergency care, dental and oral health, medication management, disease surveillance, medical specialty recommendation, and health awareness. Our review focuses on five key areas across the target domains: data collection strategies, model development process, ML techniques utilized, model evaluation techniques, as well as adaptive or personalization strategies for health and wellness interventions. We also identified various technical and methodological challenges including data volume constraints, data quality issues, data diversity or variability issues, infrastructure-related issues, and suitability of interventions which offer directions for future work in this area. Finally, we offer recommendations for tackling these challenges, leveraging on technological advances such as multimodality, Cloud technology, online learning, edge computing, automatic re-calibration, Bluetooth auto-reconnection, feedback pipeline, federated learning, explainable AI, and co-creation of health and wellness interventions. Transfer learning is a method to improve the estimation and prediction accuracy of the target model by transferring the source data when the available data of the target data is relatively few. However, existing transfer learning methods tend to ignore the heterogeneity and heavy-tailedness of high-dimensional data. So we consider the Huber regression, which is robust to thick-tailed distributed data and outliers. Based on the high-dimensional model, this paper adds the constraint conditions of prior information, carries out the research of robust transfer learning and uses Huber regression to estimate the coefficients of the target model. In this paper, we design corresponding transfer learning algorithms for known and unknown transferable sources, and prove the effectiveness of this method through simulation experiments and actual cases. This paper interrogates the informational practices shared between human and computer machine learners as they train to sense the world through lines of order, or vectors. The paper does this by exploring the affective conditions through which vectors draw relations of data over a persistent, colonial image of race. Through analysis of pedagogical practices at the Summer Institute for Computational Social Science in Chicago, and a corresponding year-long machine learning design group, this paper examines how contemporary machine learning practitioners train themselves to sense calculative relationality on the basis of racialized difference. The paper compares this vectorized sensibility with 20th century enumerative practices in the United States by analyzing the racial statistics of W.E.B. Du Bois, Kelly Miller, and Frances Kellor to trace out affective histories of the vector. Ultimately, this paper asks how machine learners – whether algorithms or their human users – often project lines of colonial order upon other forms of life, and how, by questioning the claim of vector relations and their informational objects, we can confront this sense-training and reimagine ourselves. Virtual metrology (VM) involves estimating a product's quality directly from production process data without physically measuring it. This enables the product quality of each unit of production to be monitored in real time, while preserving the process efficiency. Initially developed for the semiconductor industry, VM has recently been examined for use in other industrial fields. VM is enabled by components such as quality estimators and drift detectors. It enhances various industrial applications such as machine control and sampling decision systems. The literature lacks a comprehensive summary and a systematic review of the state of the art in VM. To fill this gap, this study followed a systematic methodology to conduct a complete and structured literature review of VM. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the 199 papers that we identified based on our search and selection criteria. Following our methodological framework, we assigned these papers to categories and highlighted shortcomings. Finally, we discussed VM's use in various industrial fields, underlining its potential for every manufacturing industry. This study and the proposed framework are useful for both practitioners and academicians since they raise crucial theoretical and managerial questions as well as provide suggestions for further research on this critical topic. Human error estimating food intake is a major source of bias in nutrition research. Artificial intelligence (AI) methods may reduce bias, but the overall accuracy of AI estimates is unknown. This study was a systematic review of peer-reviewed journal articles comparing fully automated AI-based (e.g. deep learning) methods of dietary assessment from digital images to human assessors and ground truth (e.g. doubly labelled water). Literature was searched through May 2023 in four electronic databases plus reference mining. Eligible articles reported AI estimated volume, energy, or nutrients. Independent investigators screened articles and extracted data. Potential sources of bias were documented in absence of an applicable risk of bias assessment tool. Database and hand searches identified 14,059 unique publications; fifty-two papers (studies) published from 2010 to 2023 were retained. For food detection and classification, 79% of papers used a convolutional neural network. Common ground truth sources were calculation using nutrient tables (51%) and weighed food (27%). Included papers varied widely in food image databases and results reported, so meta-analytic synthesis could not be conducted. Relative errors were extracted or calculated from 69% of papers. Average overall relative errors (AI vs. ground truth) ranged from 0.10% to 38.3% for calories and 0.09% to 33% for volume, suggesting similar performance. Ranges of relative error were lower when images had single/simple foods. Relative errors for volume and calorie estimations suggest that AI methods align with – and have the potential to exceed – accuracy of human estimations. However, variability in food image databases and results reported prevented meta-analytic synthesis. The field can advance by testing AI architectures on a limited number of large-scale food image and nutrition databases that the field determines to be adequate for training and testing and by reporting accuracy of at least absolute and relative error for volume or calorie estimations. These results suggest that AI methods are in line with – and have the potential to exceed – accuracy of human estimations of nutrient content based on digital food images. Variability in food image databases used and results reported prevented meta-analytic synthesis. The field can advance by testing AI architectures on a limited number of large-scale food image and nutrition databases that the field determines to be accurate and by reporting accuracy of at least absolute and relative error for volume or calorie estimations. The objective of this paper is to examine the use and applications of reinforcement learning (RL) techniques in the production planning and control (PPC) field addressing the following PPC areas: facility resource planning, capacity planning, purchase and supply management, production scheduling and inventory management. The main RL characteristics, such as method, context, states, actions, reward and highlights, were analysed. The considered number of agents, applications and RL software tools, specifically, programming language, platforms, application programming interfaces and RL frameworks, among others, were identified, and 181 articles were sreviewed. The results showed that RL was applied mainly to production scheduling problems, followed by purchase and supply management. The most revised RL algorithms were model-free and single-agent and were applied to simplified PPC environments. Nevertheless, their results seem to be promising compared to traditional mathematical programming and heuristics/metaheuristics solution methods, and even more so when they incorporate uncertainty or non-linear properties. Finally, RL value-based approaches are the most widely used, specifically Q-learning and its variants and for deep RL, deep Q-networks. In recent years however, the most widely used approach has been the actor-critic method, such as the advantage actor critic, proximal policy optimisation, deep deterministic policy gradient and trust region policy optimisation. This research paper focuses on addressing the challenge of infinite-time linear quadratic tracking control (LQT) for linear systems with parametric uncertainty. Traditional solutions to the LQT problem often involve using a discount factor to prevent the cost function from growing unbounded over time. However, this approach can introduce instability in the closed-loop system. To overcome this issue, this paper proposes an alternative approach using an undiscounted cost function that ensures the asymptotic stability of the uncertain closed-loop system. To design a control scheme without requiring precise knowledge of the system dynamics, reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms are employed. However, for systems with uncertain parameters that may lead to instability, the convergence of RL algorithms to a stabilising solution is not guaranteed. To address this limitation, a robust optimal control structure is developed using on-policy and off-policy reinforcement learning algorithms, resulting in a model-free controller. The effectiveness of the proposed robust optimal controller is validated through comparative simulations on an uncertain model of a DC–DC buck converter connected to a constant power load. Driving is a challenging process, any misinterpretation or interaction error during this process can result in an accident, as such, leading to the concept of driving errors (DE), one of the largest concepts explored in the literature. Yet, it is still not understood. This research aims to systematically analyse DE by providing a unique definition of this concept, examining the most common errors during driving, and providing insight into the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms in this context. Thus, a systematic literature review (SLR) of empirical studies published over the past decade (2010–2020) was conducted. 75 primary studies were identified as relevant to the purpose of this research and potentially useful for a thorough understanding of DE. In the beginning, we provide a comprehensive definition of DE, followed by an overview of the literature on the application of ML in DE. The results show that the most popular types of errors behind the well are decision-making errors and recognition errors. Moreover, ML models have been widely used in recent years to analyse DE, especially those based on artificial neural networks or regression. Errors in Cyber-Physical Systems present a major problem given the current state of technological complexity. Self-diagnosis can contribute to address it, being the standpoint of the present paper. Hence, an application of exploratory Machine Learning models to assess the functioning of robot software in order to identify anomalies that lead to low performance is proposed. More precisely, Hybrid Unsupervised Exploratory Plots (HUEPs) are extended through density-based clustering techniques, that are applied together with unsupervised exploratory projection models. As a result, intuitive and informative visualizations of software performance are obtained, supporting the monitoring and anomaly detection tasks. The scarcity of public resources and environmental pollution caused by rapid urbanization highlight the practical significance of parks in ensuring the sustainable development of a city. Therefore, the social equity of parks warrants further study. This paper proposes a fine-grained comprehensive evaluation framework that combines geographic accessibility models, geo-statistical analysis, and machine learning algorithms to explore social inequity in Taiyuan, China. In this framework, gini coefficient and lorentz curve express spatial equality, accessibility shows spatial equity, and ridge regression model handles the interdependence of variables with different dimensions to quantify the relative effects of local participants on changes in park accessibility. On this basis, the imbalance between vulnerable groups and park supply is analyzed to further understand the core concept of social equity. Results highlight serious spatial inequality in all three types of parks allocation of six urban areas, especially in community parks. The actual access level of people to parks is also stratified by their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, revealing the social inequity in access to parks. Park distribution is indeed not conducive to some social vulnerable groups, whose contradiction between supply and demand is highly prominent in urban – rural junctions and new urban areas. This paper also confirms the unfair layout of public facilities can be observed in second-tier cities of China by highlighting the social inequity of parks in Taiyuan. To achieve precise prediction of the air pressure changes in the critical components of the air brake system, including brake pipes (BP), auxiliary reservoirs (AR), and brake cylinders (BC), this paper proposed a neural network-based air brake model developed from the brake application and release experimental data with different brake applications (50, 70, 100, and 150 kPa) conducted on a heavy haul train (HHT) test platform. The physical structures of the air brake system and the working mechanisms of a neural network are introduced, and the neural network-based air brake model scheme is presented by analysing the variation of air pressure within the air brake system under typical braking conditions (50 kPa). Besides, by comparing with other models, the superiority of the proposed model is verified, and the proposed model achieves higher computational efficiency, which increased by about 2900 times compared to the fluid dynamic model under the same conditions. Then, the model is applied to the calculation of the longitudinal dynamics of a 10,000-ton HHT, and the results demonstrate that the proposed model could serve as a promising tool for solving the braking excitation problem of longitudinal dynamics of trains and the study of intelligent braking control of trains. Many applications are driven by Machine Learning (ML) today. While complex ML models lead to an accurate prediction, their inner decision-making is obfuscated. However, especially for high-stakes decisions, interpretability and explainability of the model are necessary. Therefore, we develop a holistic interpretability and explainability framework (HIEF) to objectively describe and evaluate an intelligent system's explainable AI (XAI) capacities. This guides data scientists to create more transparent models. To evaluate our framework, we analyse 50 real estate appraisal papers to ensure the robustness of HIEF. Optimizing semiconductor manufacturing processes is needed to solve the current shortage of computer chips. Discarding unfinished chips based on data-driven predictions models can significantly reduce time and resources otherwise spent on finishing faulty chips. The current paper presents the value proposition of predictive discarding at different stages in the manufacturing process, by combining model performance metrics with costs and benefits related to false and correct discards. While applied to the chip manufacturing process in this paper, predictive discarding is a generic methodology to minimize wasted resources by predicting product quality from process data. Through sensitivity analysis, we show that even with weak predictors, predictive discarding can still be beneficial, from both economic and sustainability perspectives. In recent years, semantic segmentation algorithms based on deep learning have been widely used in building extraction, which requires large sample data and does not consider the geometric features of the building, and the effect of the extraction is greatly affected by the data scene, while the traditional methods are difficult to extract the remote sensing buildings accurately because they only consider their greyscale features when extracting them. To solve this problem, we propose a method for building classification extraction from remote sensing images that combine over-pixel and maximum interclass variance. The method combines superpixel and maximum interclass variance (OTSU). First, a number of superpixel subregions with different shapes and sizes are generated based on the watershed transform. Then, the superpixels of buildings are merged using the spectral features of buildings, so the first extraction of buildings is achieved by this method.Then, the noise is suppressed with median filtering. Finally, the post-extraction of buildings is performed according to the OTSU algorithm. In this paper, seven images of buildings located in different landscapes were selected. An aggressive driving state impacts drivers' decisions, which could potentially lead to accidents. Real-time recognition of driving state is particularly important for improving road safety. However, the majority of modeling in existing studies relies on a single algorithm, which may lead to unreliable predictions. This paper proposes a stacking ensemble aggressive driving state recognition model using electroencephalography (EEG), which is able to combine different heterogeneous classification algorithms. Five types of classification algorithms and their variants are tested and compared to identify suitable base classifiers. All of these classifiers are optimized by Bayesian optimizer before the comparison. Three stacking ensemble recognition models using different meta-classifiers (i.e., logistic regression, random forest, and AdaBoost) and an equal-weight voting ensemble recognition model are established. The aforementioned recognition models are evaluated by using a dataset collected from a car-following simulated driving experiment. Fast Fourier transformation (FFT) and wavelet packet transformation (WPT) are adopted to extract features from raw EEG data. The results suggest that the stacking ensemble recognition models outperform the best single (i.e., support vector machine) model; the random Forest stacking recognition model achieves the best performance and the accuracy is increased from 81.21% to 84.23% using FFT features and from 86.45% to 87.38% using WPT features. This paper provides a systematic review of the Genetic Algorithm (GA)s proposed to solve planning and scheduling problems in Engineer-To-Order (ETO) contexts. Our review focuses on how the key characteristics of ETO projects affect both the problem studied and the GA algorithmic features. Typical ETO projects consist of one-of-a-kind products with complex structures and uncertain designs. A deep analysis of the papers published between 2000 and 2022 enables identifying 10 main characteristics of ETO projects, six activity types, 10 decision types, eight groups of constraints, and 10 optimisation objectives. Our study shows that none of the reported papers integrates all 10 ETO characteristics. The less studied ETO characteristics are incorporating design and engineering information in the problem definition and the design uncertainty. Our review also identifies 10 recurrent encoding formats and emphasises the most frequently used genetic operators. We observed that most planning and scheduling problems consider objectives and decisions related to product customisation or supply chain configuration yielding multi-objective problems. Most multi-objective GAs use a weighted sum or are based on NSGAII. The paper explores the potential role of Machine learning (ML) in supporting the development of a company's Performance Management System (PMS). In more details, it investigates the capability of ML to moderate the complexity related to the identification of the business value drivers (methodological complexity) and the related measures (analytical complexity). A second objective is the analysis of the main issues arising in applying ML to performance management. The research, developed through an action research design, shows that ML can moderate complexity by (1) reducing the subjectivity in the identification of the business value drivers; (2) accounting for cause-effect relationships between business value drivers and performance; (3) balancing managerial interpretability vs. predictivity of the approach. It also shows that the realisation of such benefits requires a combined understanding of the ML techniques and of the performance management model of the company to frame and validate the algorithm in light of the context in which the organisation operates. With the new revolution in data technology, many types of streaming data are automatically generated in our living environment. The vast amount of information carried by this streaming data demands decision support from new online learning algorithms. In this paper, we propose a new online learning algorithm to monitor changes in stream data/system status and provide automatic decision support using streaming data. The new online learning algorithm we propose consists of two components. Firstly, we adapt an existing Bayesian approach into an online learning algorithm for change detection, which serves as Component A. The non-linear nature of vehicle crash safety simulations using the Finite Element Method (FEM) usually requires a significant investment in computational time and resources, in addition to the requirement of full CAD (Computer Aided Design) data availability, which is challenging to obtain during the concept stage. The current work explores the usage of Macro Element Method (MEM) based on simplified Super Beam Element (SBE), for which the shape functions are developed based on experimental observations rather than algebraic equations. MEM crash analysis run time doesn't exceed several seconds and is one of the underutilised analytical models which can be used to quickly explore new design directions during the early concept stage of the vehicle and has higher potential to speed up the product development process. In this paper, initially, a calibration study was done to validate the MEM at a component level to compare the results with FEM and experimental values. FEM and MEM simulation models were developed and evaluated for a metallic thin-walled square frusta with varying semi-apical angles subjected to axial compression. The results were compared, and it was found that MEM results show more than 97% correlation compared to FEM and experimental results. Subsequently, a design modification was introduced in the component and the results show close degree of correlation between MEM and FEM. Similar process was followed for full vehicle level simulations, such as full width frontal crash, side pole crash analyses to understand the robustness of the method in applying it to product development environment. This paper addresses a notable gap in the field of photovoltaic system forecasting by introducing the Machine Learning-based PV Prediction and Fault Analysis System (ML-PVPFAS). This framework is designed to optimize the decomposition of variational systems automatically, using a multi-objective intelligent optimization method to establish its weight. The paper evaluates a range of Machine Learning (ML) and Ensemble Learning (EL) techniques for diagnosing faults in PV arrays, with a primary focus on identifying and categorizing complex faults that could affect these arrays. These faults encompass multiple anomalies and defects with similar current-voltage curves, which have not been previously examined. The analysis of prediction scores reveals that the ML-PVPFAS approach outperforms other methods, with the lowest Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) at 4.93, Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) at 4.64, high Accuracy at 90.31%, Precision at 93.60%, a strong Pearson Correlation Coefficient of 0.90, and a fast Computation Time of 77.64 milliseconds. In the past few years, the field of big data has multiplied, with more academic papers written about it. This bibliometric research was done to look at and understand the trends regarding countries, organizations, authors, and keywords that are creating the most publications and citations in big data. This study was done to understand the current state of scientific publications in the field. The research used Web of Science (WoS) database information from 1993 to 2021. The study of 32,085 papers showed that, on average, each document has 14.7 citations and 3.46 citations per year. According to the results, the United States, China, and the United Kingdom have the most scholarly publications about big data. This paper aims to build a machine learning and a neural network model to detect the probability of money laundering in banks. The paper's data came from a simulation of actual transactions flagged for money laundering in Middle Eastern banks. In modern network environments, the swift recovery of network flow intrusions poses a substantial challenge. Particularly in the context of Software-Defined Networks (SDN), addressing this challenge necessitates the strategic selection of backup paths based on traffic patterns. In response to this critical issue, our paper introduces a groundbreaking approach known as Machine Learning-based Network Intrusion Recovery (MLBNIR) for enhancing intrusion recovery in SDN. Highly Automated Driving (HAD) systems implement new features to improve the performance, safety and comfort of partially or fully automated vehicles. The identification of safety parameters by means of complex systems and the driving environment is a fundamental aspect that require great attention. Therefore, much research has been conducted in the field of collision detection in the development of automated vehicles. However, the development of HAD systems faces the challenge of ensuring zero accidents. For this reason, collision detection in the safety-related concept phase as hazard identification is one of the key research points in HAD system. In this paper, a systematic approach to detect potential collisions for scenario-based hazard analysis of HAD systems is presented by using Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) as a Machine Learning (ML) technique. Moreover, the proposed approach assists in reducing the number of observed scenarios for hazard analysis and risk assessment. Additionally, two simulation-based scenario datasets are examined in the ML model to identify potential hazard scenarios. Through the digitalisation of Civil Trials and the implementation of the Telematic Civil Process framework, the Italian Ministry of Justice has amassed a wealth of data covering all facets of modern Trials. While data availability has surged, the focus now lies in actively analysing this data to optimise Trials and curtail their duration. This paper, with a strong emphasis on its outcomes, delves into the analysis of data from the Court of Livorno. It seeks to pinpoint specific events within the Trial workflow that significantly extend Trial durations. The effective identification of systemically important financial institutions (SIFIs) is key to preventing and resolving systemic financial risks; thus, it is of great research significance for emerging countries to supervise SIFIs and manage systemic financial risks. Since traditional research on identifying SIFIs does not consider emerging machine learning models, it is difficult to properly fit the characteristics of actual financial institutions' asset distribution. This paper proposes a new method for measuring SIFIs, integrating the PSO-SVM model into the Copula-CoVaR model. This new PSO-SVM-Copula-CoVaR model is meant to evaluate China's SIFIs based on the publicly traded price data of Chinese listed financial institutions. The empirical results show that, compared with the traditional parameter method (GARCH model) and the nonparametric method (kernel density estimation), the marginal distribution estimation method using the PSO-SVM method can better fit the distribution of an institution's financial asset return sequence. The industry has embraced digitalisation leading to a greater reliance on models derived from data. Understanding and getting insights into the models generated by machine learning algorithms is a challenge due to their non-explicit nature. Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) is to enhance understanding of the digital models and confidence in the results they produce. The paper makes two contributions. First, the XRule algorithm proposed in the paper generates explicit rules meeting user's preferences. A user may control the nature of the rules generated by the XRule algorithm, e.g. degree of redundancy among the rules. Second, in analogy to federated learning, the concept of federated explainable artificial intelligence (fXAI) is proposed. Besides providing insights into the models built from data and explaining the predicted decisions, the fXAI provides additional value. The user-centric knowledge generated in support of fXAI may lead to discovery of previously unknown parameters and subsequently models that may benefit the non-explicit and explicit perspectives. The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is one of the most intensively studied combinatorial optimisation problems for which numerous models and algorithms have been proposed. To tackle the complexities, uncertainties and dynamics involved in real-world VRP applications, Machine Learning (ML) methods have been used in combination with analytical approaches to enhance problem formulations and algorithmic performance across different problem solving scenarios. However, the relevant papers are scattered in several traditional research fields with very different, sometimes confusing, terminologies. This paper presents a first, comprehensive review of hybrid methods that combine analytical techniques with ML tools in addressing VRP problems. Specifically, we review the emerging research streams on ML-assisted VRP modelling and ML-assisted VRP optimisation. We conclude that ML can be beneficial in enhancing VRP modelling, and improving the performance of algorithms for both online and offline VRP optimisations. To improve manufacturing processes, it is essential to find the root causes of occurring problems, in order to solve them permanently. Automatic Root Cause Analysis (ARCA) solutions aid analysts in finding such root causes, by using automatic data analysis to improve the digital decision. When trying to locate the root cause of a problem in a manufacturing process, a phenomenon can occur that disrupts the application of ARCA solutions. Overlap, as we denominated, is a phenomenon where local synchronicities in the manufacturing process lead to data where it is impossible to discern the influence of each location in the quality of products, which impedes automated diagnosis, especially when using classifiers. This paper identifies and defines overlap, and proposes a two-phase ARCA solution that uses factor-ranking algorithms, instead of classifiers. The proposed solution is evaluated in simulated and real case-study data. Results proved the presence of overlap in the datasets, and its negative impact on classifiers. In the context of Industry 4.0, many production scenarios utilise sensors to monitor manufacturing processes, resulting in massive data that can be leveraged to build machine-learning models to improve production efficiency and quality. In semiconductor manufacturing, where many sensors are employed to monitor the production process, the resulting multi-sensor data poses challenges for constructing a virtual metrology (VM) model to assess wafer quality. Furthermore, building separate prediction models for each sensor can result in a loss of redundancy present in the multi-sensor data. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-source AdaBoost with a cross-weight sampling method for predicting the critical dimension required in VM. Compared with the existing AdaBoost algorithm in regression, the proposed method adapts well to multi-source data by incorporating a cross-weight sampling distribution. Thus, when updating the sampling weight distribution, the impact of both individual and multi-source data is considered to re-sample high-quality observations. Based on the numerical results from the synthetic datasets and case study in semiconductor manufacturing, the proposed method outperforms benchmark methods. The drilling quality of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) components is a key factor affecting the service life of the components, while energy saving and emission reduction in industrial production are crucial. In this study, drilling experiments were conducted on T300 plywood using a 55° coated tungsten steel drill bit, and CNN-LSTM neural network models were used to construct mapping relationships between process parameters (spindle speed, feed rate, and fibre lay-up sequence) and delamination factor and machine energy consumption. A new method of predicting the delamination factor by process parameters is proposed, and explored the optimal process parameter combinations that reduce the energy consumption of machine tools and minimise the delamination factor at the same time. The research results show that within the parameter settings, a spindle speed of 7000 r/min, a feed rate of 40 mm/min, and a lay-up sequence of [0°, 0°, −45°, 90°]6s ensure both low power consumption in the drilling process and the highest possible hole quality.
