In this paper, the propagation of pulse wave in a deformable elastic vessel filled with inviscid blood is studied. Starting from the stress–strain relationship of blood vessel wall, momentum conservation equation and the Naiver–Stokes equation, the basic equations describing the wall motion and blood flow are established. By utilizing reductive perturbation technique and long wave approximation theory, the basic equations are simplified into a classical third-order mKdV equation with variable coefficients. In order to describe the propagation characteristics of pulse wave more accurately, a fifth-order variable-coefficient mKdV equation is derived. Then, the tanh-function method is applied to find the localized traveling wave solutions of these equations. Based on these localized traveling wave solutions, we further investigate the effects of higher order terms and initial vessel deformation on the characteristics of pulse wave propagation, blood flow velocity and the volume of blood flow. The results show that the higher-order nonlinear and dispersion terms lead to the distortion of the wave, while the initial deformation of the tube wall will influence the wave amplitude and wave width. The paper addresses the problem of determining the field of a reflected wave in a multiscale inhomogeneous medium, which consists of a background deterministic large-scale irregularity and multiscale random irregularities with scales both larger and smaller than the wavelength. A layer with a linear permittivity profile is taken as the background irregularity. The small-scale irregularities are responsible for wide-angle scattering including backscattering. The first approximation of the perturbation theory is used to account for scattering from these irregularities. As the zero approximation and Green's function in determining the field backscattered by small-scale irregularities, we utilize the integral representation of the field, obtained in our earlier work by combining the method of double weighted Fourier transform (DWFT) and the Fock proper-time method. Asymptotic methods are used to reduce the sevenfold integral representation of a field to lower-order integrals. Conditions for validity of such representations are obtained. Formulas of the frequency coherence functions of waves reflected and backscattered from the turbulent plasma layer are given. The paper presents the results of the simulation of pulse sounding of a randomly inhomogeneous reflecting plasma layer demonstrating the effect of large-scale irregularities on backscattering by small-scale irregularities. This paper presents some models of exchange rate with jumps, namely jump diffusion exchange rate models. Jump diffusion models are quite common in computational and theoretical finance. It is known that exchange rates sometimes exhibit jumps during some time periods. Therefore, it is important to take into account the presence of these jumps in exchange rate modeling in general. However, even the simplest jump diffusion model introduces some analytical difficulty in terms of finding a solution to the model. The models we analyze in this paper make use of Approximation Theory in order to come up with closed form solutions to the underlying variables. This approach leads to the branch of differential equations called functional differential equations and more specifically the so-called delay differential equations. Our approach leads to a second order delay differential equation. Though, in principle, these types of functional differential equations can be solved analytically in some cases, the task, in general, is quite enormous. We circumvent this technical difficulty by deriving an approximate solution using a power series expansion of the second order. Therefore, we derive a complete solution to the models and also investigate the model's predictions of the exchange rate. We introduce two jump diffusion models. The first model examines the case where there are jumps with a constant magnitude. The second model considers the case of jumps of different sizes. These are relatively simpler cases to be analyzed. We will present some computational aspects in terms of the difficulty often encountered in estimating these types of models. The difficulty increases for the type of exchange rate models being considered in this paper. Taking advantage of the specification of the models we have estimated the parameters using a two-step M-estimation strategy that combines full information maximum likelihood estimation in the first step and the simulated method of moments in the second step. Pythagorean fuzzy sets are advancements of the intuitionistic fuzzy sets and overcome their limitations. In this paper, we exploit the concept of full congruence relation of Pythagorean fuzzy sets and define the lower and upper approximations of Pythagorean fuzzy set. In this paper, we prove the existence of the initial-nonlinear nonlocal solutions for a parabolic system in a weighted Sobolev space. The methods applied are the Faedo–Galerkin approximation and the general theory of weak compactness in appropriate weighted Sobolev spaces together with using the Poincaré-type operator for dealing nonlinear nonlocal conditions. This paper investigates an adaptive cooperative fault-tolerant supervisory control problem for nonlinear strict-feedback leader-following systems with unknown control coefficients and actuator faults under the fixed directed graph. Radial basis function neural networks are used to approximate system uncertainties. The Nussbaum gain technique is introduced to address unknown signs of control gains. Then, based on the dynamic surface control method, a distributed adaptive fault-tolerant control scheme is presented to compensate for the actuator faults of followers. For neural networks approximation theory, the unknown smooth function can only be approximated on a compact set due to the approximation errors. By theoretic analysis, the supervisory-based adaptive controllers are proposed to guarantee that system state signals can converge to compact sets and the leader-following systems can achieve the practical output consensus. Continuing our critique of the classical derivation of the formula for the area of a disk, we focus on the limiting processes in geometry. Evidence suggests that intuitive approaches in arguing about infinity, when geometric configurations are involved, are inadequate, and could easily lead to erroneous conclusions. We expose weaknesses and misconceptions in arguments which attempt to articulate what the static geometric object 'in the limit', or 'at infinity', is, or what it looks like. Supported by school curricular expectations and existing research, we suggest an alternative focus and reasoning process to teaching and investigating geometric limits. Instead of discussing what happens 'at infinity', or 'at the end of a limiting process', we suggest that one should argue based on what happens as we move 'far enough', i.e. 'far toward infinity'. Thus, we suggest replacing the static situation 'at infinity' with the investigation of the corresponding dynamic geometric pattern. This way, the emphasis is placed on reasoning about approximations and estimations, which appear as objectives in school curricula of many countries. We encourage introducing and discussing geometric limits, as they raise a number of interesting questions, ask for identification of patterns, and have potentially unexpected and exciting outcomes. The Doppler spectra of the scattering fields from sinusoidal water waves illuminated by a plane wave or Gaussian beam are numerically simulated with the method of moment (MoM). When the sinusoidal water surface is illuminated by a plane EM wave, the numerical results show that the Doppler spectrum of the scattering field is distorted seriously due to the frequency leakage. For this case, not only the resonance spectral peaks corresponding to the phase velocity of the water wave but also other equally spaced harmonic peaks appear on the spectrum curve. However, when the sinusoidal water surface is illuminated by a Gaussian beam with appropriate beam width, the harmonic peaks can be effectively suppressed. To better explain this phenomenon, the theoretical model for the spectrum of the scattering field from a sinusoidal water wave is derived based on the first-order small slope approximation theory (SSA-I). The class of location-scale finite mixtures is of enduring interest both from applied and theoretical perspectives of probability and statistics. We establish and prove the following results: to an arbitrary degree of accuracy, (a) location-scale mixtures of a continuous probability density function (PDF) can approximate any continuous PDF, uniformly, on a compact set; and (b) for any finite p ≥ 1 , location-scale mixtures of an essentially bounded PDF can approximate any PDF in L p , in the L p norm. Based on the Carrera unified formulation (CUF) and first-invariant hyperelasticity, this work proposes a displacement-based high order one-dimensional (1 D) finite element model for the geometrical and physical nonlinear analysis of isotropic, slightly compressible soft material structures. Different strain energy functions are considered and they are decomposed in a volumetric and an isochoric part, the former acting as penalization of incompressibility. Given the material Jacobian tensor, the nonlinear governing equations are derived in a unified, total Lagrangian form by expanding the three-dimensional displacement field with arbitrary cross-section polynomials and using the virtual work principle. The exact analytical expressions of the elemental internal force vector and tangent matrix of the unified beam model are also provided. Several problems are addressed, including uniaxial tension, bending of a slender structure, compression of a three-dimensional block, and a thick pinched cylinder. The proposed model is compared with analytical solutions and literature results whenever possible. It is demonstrated that, although 1 D, the present CUF-based finite element can address simple to complex nonlinear hyperelastic phenomena, depending on the theory approximation order. Singularity subtraction for linear weakly singular Fredholm integral equations of the second kind is generalized to nonlinear integral equations. Two approaches are presented: The Classical Approach discretizes the nonlinear problem, and uses some finite dimensional linearization process to solve numerically the discrete problem. Its convergence is proved under mild hypotheses on the nonlinearity and the quadrature rule of the singularity subtraction scheme. The New Approach is based on linearization of the problem in its infinite dimensional setting, and discretization of the sequence of linear problems by singularity subtraction. The systematic design and analysis of tasks which can be implemented in first-year university courses and point to advanced inner- and extra-mathematically rich issues and their rationales is an open problem in the didactics of mathematics in higher education. Potentials of such tasks can be seen with regard to learning processes in the first year of study, which are less compartmentalized and allow for an extended acquisition of rationales of advanced mathematical practices and concepts. Against this background, subject-specific potentials of advanced mathematics are examined in this contribution. The Anthropological Theory of the Didactic (ATD) serves as the theoretical framework and in the analyses notions from its 4T-model are applied. Structural observations in praxeological terms are illustrated by examples chosen from a presentation of a classical result in Nonlinear Approximation. At the specific focus of the praxeological analyses are aspects for bridging and extending concepts within and across Analysis. On this basis, tasks designed for first-year university Analysis courses are analysed in detail. The approximation theory is utilized in optimal design finding by approximating the covariance matrix by the Fisher information matrix; however, the approximation accuracy depends on the sample size. Moreover, the proportion of success, p , may also be important in approximation when the underlying model is logistic. So, in the case of facing a restriction in running a large experiment in addition to facing an extreme p , the usual information matrix may not be enough accurate in approximation. In this study, a locally D-optimal design is proposed for a logistic model based on the quasi-information matrix which was obtained by applying more exact Hammersley-Chapman-Robbins (H-C-R) lower bound for variance approximation. The general equivalence theorem was deficient, so it was adapted. Under such an approach, the obtained optimal design is more efficient than the previous ones in terms of variance and mean square error of the parameter estimates. Furthermore, the probability of infinite estimate of the model parameters is reduced in experiments with extreme proportion of successes at the support points. The system of two polynomial equations is derived for direct simultaneous determination of the critical temperatures of the spin-1 Ising model on lattices with arbitrary values of the coordination number in the single-site cluster effective field theory approximation. Analysis of the critical temperatures allows to determine simple linear function 2 z / 3 − 1 / 2 that approximates the critical temperatures of the model with very high precision for all values of the coordination number z. It is demonstrated that the system of two equations for the critical temperatures of the model can be reduced to the corresponding single equation in the cases with z = 3 , 4 , and 5. In addition, the system of entirely algebraic polynomial equations for the determination of the spontaneous magnetization of the model simultaneously for all values of the coordination number is also derived and discussed. Fractal approximation is a well studied concept, but the convergence of all the existing fractal approximants towards the original function follows usually if the magnitude of the corresponding scaling factors approaches zero.
