For some years, we have been witnessing a steady stream of high-profile studies about machine learning (ML) algorithms achieving high diagnostic accuracy in the analysis of medical images. That said, facilitating successful collaboration between ML algorithms and clinicians proves to be a recalcitrant problem that may exacerbate ethical problems in clinical medicine. In this paper, we consider different epistemic and normative factors that may lead to algorithmic overreliance within clinical decision-making. These factors are false expectations, the miscalibration of uncertainties, non-explainability, and the socio-technical context within which the algorithms are utilized. Moreover, we identify different desiderata for bridging the gap between ML algorithms and clinicians. Further, we argue that there is an intriguing dialectic in the collaboration between clinicians and ML algorithms. While it is the algorithm that is supposed to assist the clinician in diagnostic tasks, successful collaboration will also depend on adjustments on the side of the clinician., (© 2021 The Authors. Imbalanced image datasets consist of image datasets where there is a significant disparity in the number of samples across different classes. With imbalanced image datasets, learning algorithms often tend to be biased toward the majority class samples. This leads to poor classification of minority class samples as their training is not properly conducted. It becomes more complicated when the number of samples in the minority class is very low. In this paper, a novel hierarchical algorithm is proposed for generating new data using Capsule Generative Adversarial Networks (CapsGAN) to address the class imbalance problem in imbalanced image datasets. Unlike common GAN models, the proposed method incorporates an auxiliary CapsNet to identify high‐value images in both minority and majority classes. This identification is based on the ability to detect complex relationships between low‐level and high‐level features present in capsule networks. Furthermore, the proposed CapsGAN model is conditioned to generate minority class samples based on feature vectors of last capsule layer to achieve a more balanced image dataset. For evaluating the performance of the proposed model, an image dataset called CICS was collected and introduced. Extensive experiments were also conducted using various online image datasets from different domains, with varying numbers of classes and data sizes. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed model can generate high‐quality samples in cases where the image dataset or the number of minority class samples is relatively small. Despite the fact that machine learning (ML) algorithms to construct predictive models for pressure injury development are widely reported, the performance of the model remains unknown. The goal of the review was to systematically appraise the performance of ML models in predicting pressure injury. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CINAHL, Grey literature and other databases were systematically searched. Original journal papers were included which met the inclusion criteria. The methodological quality was assessed independently by two reviewers using the Prediction Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST). Meta‐analysis was performed with Metadisc software, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, sensitivity and specificity as effect measures. Chi‐squared and I2 tests were used to assess the heterogeneity. A total of 18 studies were included for the narrative review, and 14 of them were eligible for meta‐analysis. The models achieved excellent pooled AUC of 0.94, sensitivity of 0.79 (95% CI [0.78–0.80]) and specificity of 0.87 (95% CI [0.88–0.87]). Meta‐regressions did not provide evidence that model performance varied by data or model types. The present findings indicate that ML models show an outstanding performance in predicting pressure injury. One of the useful knowledge representation tools, which can describe the joint probability distribution between some random variables with a graphical model and can be trained by a dataset, is the Bayesian network (BN). A BN is composed of a network structure and a conditional probability distribution table for each node. Discovering an optimal BN structure is an NP‐hard optimization problem that various meta‐heuristic algorithms are applied to solve this problem by researchers. The genetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, evolutionary programming, artificial bee colony, and bacterial foraging optimization are some of the meta‐heuristic methods to solve this problem using a dataset. Most of these methods are applying a scoring metric to generate the best network structure from a set of candidates. A Fixed Structure Learning Automata‐Based (FSLA‐B) algorithm is presented in this paper to solve the structure learning problem of BNs. There is a fixed structure learning automaton for each pair of vertices in the BN's graph structure in the proposed algorithm. The action of this automaton determines the presence and direction of an edge between the vertices. The proposed algorithm performs a guided search procedure using the FSLA and escapes from local optimums. Several datasets are utilised in this paper to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. By performing various experiments, multiple meta‐heuristic algorithms are compared with the introduced new one. Railway track defects must be detected and repaired to ensure the safe operation of the railway. Signals generated by wheelset contact with rail discontinuities contain information about railway track structure and health. Each signal has a characteristic pattern, which is modified in the presence of defects. Signal decomposition is commonly used to extract characteristics from impact response signals. It is necessary to select an appropriate decomposition method for the wheel/rail impact signal. This paper presents a study of the effectiveness of decomposition methods to identify the most appropriate technique for classification of rail conditions. Vibration signals have been generated in experiments and decomposed. The signal characteristics are presented and energy‐based methods are used in an evaluation of the different approaches. Standard deviation is used to assess the similarity of parameter value from different intrinsic mode functions (IMFs); maximum and minimum differences from the mean value are used to consider the effectiveness of each technique in identifying specific damage types. The evaluation shows that variational mode decomposition (VMD) is suitable for the rail application. Classifiers are applied to the outputs of the selected decomposition method. Machine Learning and Data Mining algorithms are used extensively to enhance the performance of Intrusion Detection Systems. The number of training instances and the dimensionality of data are crucial factors affecting the performance of the model built during the training of any supervised learning algorithms. A sufficient proportion of instances having relevant features from all classes of attacks and normal traffic are considered most desirable while building the classification model that classifies the network traffic into attack and normal. This paper proposes a methodology to improve the accuracy of the model by giving importance to the relevant features that can contribute to model building. The feature selection using correlation‐based and information gain‐based techniques during training and testing contributes much to the detection of stealthier attacks and minority attacks. Then the features of the less detected attacks are identified as the second phase of the filter that is used to improve the performance. The relevant features of stealthy attacks are identified based on the correlation of corresponding features of the attack and normal data as the attacks are made stealthy mostly by making it resemble the normal traffic. Finally, the attacks that are rarely found in the training data are oversampled to improve their detection. CICIDS 2017 data set is employed as it comprises stealthier attacks generated using modern tools. NSL KDD data set is also used for evaluation to compare the proposed work with existing literature as it is used in most of the available literature. Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) is a new method technique that supports reliable information transmission in a strong Doppler environment. Aiming at the radar target parameter estimation problem of integration of radar and communication (IRC) based on OTFS, this paper proposes a two‐step radar target parameter estimation algorithm combining maximum likelihood (ML) estimation and gradient descent (GD) principle. Firstly, the echo signal of the OTFS integrated signal is constructed and based on this, the ML estimation model is constructed, and the alternating projection (AP) algorithm is employed to make a rough estimation of the target parameters. Then the rough estimation results of the AP‐ML algorithm are employed as the initial value of the GD algorithm for the fine parameter estimation. The convolutional neural network (CNN) is an important network model for processing time series classification tasks. However, there can be a lot of noise in the data itself. The clarity of spatial feature expression of time‐series samples and the freeness and balance of data samples both have a big effect on how well CNNs can handle time series classification (TSC) tasks. This paper proposes a multi‐pose marking learning algorithm (MPML), which optimizes the spatial representation of data samples through multiple graphical representations of time series data and then solves the problems of freeness and heterogeneity of data samples through labeling and preferential learning of poorly trained sample data. The algorithm improves the model's robustness to noise by improving the spatial expression sentiment of the time series and the labeling learning of the feature data, thereby improving the convolutional neural network's performance to perform the TSC task. This paper presents a new approach to finding optimal patterns for the placement of fields of sonobuoys in a complex undersea environment. We model the problem as a biobjective one, where the aim is to minimise both sensor placement time and uncertainty over target localisation. Both objectives may be important in time‐critical localisation scenarios and our approach allows an operator to choose between different optimal solutions, favouring lower placement time or lower localisation uncertainty as operational circumstances require. We develop a two‐phase algorithm, where an offline multiobjective evolutionary phase finds initial Pareto‐non‐dominated solutions to a static problem and then an online multiobjective reinforcement learning phase finds improved solutions using updated information. We find that the evolutionary algorithm improves significantly on standard grid patterns and that the reinforcement learning algorithm improves further on the evolutionary phase. Chronic wounds are associated with significant clinical, economic and quality‐of‐life burden. Despite the variety of wound imaging systems available in the market for wound assessment and surveillance, few are clinically validated among patients of Asian ethnicity. We aimed to clinically validate the accuracy of a smartphone wound application (Tissue Analytics [TA], Net Health Systems Inc, Florida, USA), versus conventional wound measurements (visual approximation and paper rulers), in patients of Asian ethnicity with venous leg ulcers (VLU). A prospective cohort study of patients presenting with VLU to a specialist wound nurse clinic over a 5‐week duration was conducted. Each patient received seven wound measurements: one by a trained wound nurse clinician, and three separate wound measurements using TA on each of the iOS and Android operating systems. Inter‐rater and intra‐rater reliability between clinical and TA‐based measurements were analysed using intra‐class correlation statistics, with values of <0.5, 0.5 to 0.75, 0.75 to 0.9, and >0.9 indicating poor, moderate, good and excellent reliability, respectively. 82 patients (51% males), with a mean age at 65.8 years, completed the 5‐week study duration. 25 (30%) had underlying diabetes mellitus. Chinese, Malay and Indian ethnicity comprised 68%, 12% and 11%, respectively. The VLU healed in 26 (32%) of patients within the study period. In total, 358 wound episodes with 2334 wound images were analysed. Inter‐rater reliability for length, width and area between wound nurse measurements and TA application measurements was good (range 0.799‐0.919, P < 0.001). Separate measurements of intra‐rater reliability for length, width and area within the iOS or Android systems were excellent (range 0.967‐0.985 and range 0.977‐0.984 respectively, P < 0.001). Inter‐rater reliability between TA used on the iOS and Android systems was also excellent (0.987‐0.989, P < 0.001). Chronic kidney disease is a global health issue that affects millions of people worldwide and causes significant social, economic, and medical issues. Several automated detection systems can diagnose chronic kidney disease. This paper proposes the recursive random forest feature selection (RFFS) based ensemble learning algorithm to diagnose chronic kidney diseases (CKD). In the decision point, decision tree‐based classifiers are used. The accuracy and kappa scores are used to determine the classification results. According to the results of the proposed algorithm's performance analyses, the ensemble learning classifiers outperform other classifiers for classifying CKD. The proposed RFFS algorithm achieves 6%–40% improved prediction accuracy using the feature selection algorithm. Further, it attains 15%–39% of reduced mean square error. The performance metrics, precision, sensitivity, specificity, f1 score, and Jaccard scores, have been analysed and show greater results for the RFFS algorithm. The doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) usually experiences high rotor current and DC capacitor link voltage spikes during system fault events. In this paper, a novel data‐driven approach is proposed to enhance DFIG performance under fault scenarios. An advanced reinforcement learning algorithm called guided surrogate‐gradient‐based evolution strategy (GSES) is used to control the DFIG power and capacitor DC‐link voltage by adjusting the optimal reference signals. This controller is able to prevent the DFIG rotor from over‐current risk and maintain grid‐connected operation. The proposed GSES‐based control algorithm was evaluated through simulations on a 3.6‐MW DFIG in the PSCAD/EMTDC software. Recent years have witnessed intensive efforts to specify which requirements ethical artificial intelligence (AI) must meet. General guidelines for ethical AI consider a varying number of principles important. A frequent novel element in these guidelines, that we have bundled together under the term explicability, aims to reduce the black‐box character of machine learning algorithms. The centrality of this element invites reflection on the conceptual relation between explicability and the four bioethical principles. This is important because the application of general ethical frameworks to clinical decision‐making entails conceptual questions: Is explicability a free‐standing principle? Is it already covered by the well‐established four bioethical principles? Or is it an independent value that needs to be recognized as such in medical practice? We discuss these questions in a conceptual‐ethical analysis, which builds upon the findings of an empirical document analysis. On the example of the medical specialty of radiology, we analyze the position of radiological associations on the ethical use of medical AI. Multi‐label classification algorithms deal with classification problems where a single datapoint can be classified (or labelled) with more than one class (or label) at the same time. Early multi‐label approaches like binary relevance consider each label individually and train individual binary classifier models for each label. State‐of‐the‐art algorithms like RAkEL, classifier chains, calibrated label ranking, IBLR‐ML+, and BPMLL also consider the associations between labels for improved performance. Like most machine learning algorithms, however, these approaches require careful hyper‐parameter tuning, a computationally expensive optimisation problem. There is a scarcity of multi‐label classification algorithms that require minimal hyper‐parameter tuning. This paper addresses this gap in the literature by proposing CascadeML, a multi‐label classification method based on the existing cascaded neural network architecture, which also takes label associations into consideration. CascadeML grows a neural network architecture incrementally (deep as well as wide) in a two‐phase process as it learns network weights using an adaptive first‐order gradient descent algorithm. This omits the requirement of preselecting the number of hidden layers, nodes, activation functions, and learning rate. The performance of the CascadeML algorithm was evaluated using 13 multi‐label datasets and compared with nine existing multi‐label algorithms. The results show that CascadeML achieved the best average rank over the datasets, performed better than BPMLL (one of the earliest well known multi‐label specific neural network algorithms), and was similar to the state‐of‐the‐art classifier chains and RAkEL algorithms. Topic modeling—a text‐mining technique often used to uncover thematic structures in large collections of texts—has been increasingly frequently used in the context of the analysis of scholarly output. In this study, we construct a corpus of 19,488 texts published since 1971 in seven leading journals in the field of bioethics and philosophy of medicine, and we use a machine learning algorithm to identify almost 100 topics representing distinct themes of interest in the field. On the basis of intertopic correlations, we group the content‐based topics into eight clusters, thus providing a novel, fine‐grained intellectual map of bioethics and philosophy of medicine. Moreover, we conduct a number of diachronic analyses, examining how the "prominence" of different topics has changed across time. In this way, we are able to observe the distinct patterns in which bioethics and philosophy of medicine have evolved and changed their focus over the past half a century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Automated machine learning (autoML) platforms allow health care professionals to play an active role in the development of machine learning (ML) algorithms according to scientific or clinical needs. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate such a model for automated detection and grading of distal hand osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: A total of 13,690 hand radiographs from 2,863 patients within the Swiss Cohort of Quality Management (SCQM) and an external control data set of 346 non‐SCQM patients were collected and scored for distal interphalangeal OA (DIP‐OA) using the modified Kellgren/Lawrence (K/L) score. Giotto (Learn to Forecast [L2F]) was used as an autoML platform for training two convolutional neural networks for DIP joint extraction and subsequent classification according to the K/L scores. A total of 48,892 DIP joints were extracted and then used to train the classification model. Heatmaps were generated independently of the platform. User experience of a web application as a provisional user interface was investigated by rheumatologists and radiologists. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of this model for detecting DIP‐OA were 79% and 86%, respectively. The accuracy for grading the correct K/L score was 75%, with a κ score of 0.76. The accuracy per DIP‐OA class differed, with 86% for no OA (defined as K/L scores 0 and 1), 71% for a K/L score of 2, 46% for a K/L score of 3, and 67% for a K/L score of 4. Similar values were obtained in an independent external test set. Qualitative and quantitative user experience testing of the web application revealed a moderate to high demand for automated DIP‐OA scoring among rheumatologists. Conversely, radiologists expressed a low demand, except for the use of heatmaps. Conclusion: AutoML platforms are an opportunity to develop clinical end‐to‐end ML algorithms. Here, automated radiographic DIP‐OA detection is both feasible and usable, whereas grading among individual K/L scores (eg, for clinical trials) remains challenging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, a machine learning‐assisted prediction model is proposed to analyze the reliability issues in the 28 nm resistive random access memory (RRAM) chip with raw data measured from RRAM test chip. The neural network of long‐short time memory (LSTM) is trained by the voltages and resistance during the endurance test (input vectors) and generates the output of the dichotomy states with a satisfied testing result >83.08%. According to the prediction results, the "real fail" state or "fake fail" state of the devices can get in the future. By collaborating with a well‐designed resurrection algorithm (RA), the percentage of real and fake failed cells dropped by 35% and 29%, respectively. Besides, the tail bits in retention significantly reduced from 33% to 14.6% due to the reduction of oxygen vacancies in the gaps of conducting filaments by applying ten consecutive cycles of RA. Stochastic gradient descent algorithm is a classical and useful method for stochastic optimisation. While stochastic gradient descent has been theoretically investigated for decades and successfully applied in machine learning such as training of deep neural networks, it essentially relies on obtaining the unbiased estimates of gradients/subgradients of the objective functions. In this paper, by constructing the randomised differences of the objective function, a gradient‐free algorithm, named the stochastic randomised‐difference descent algorithm, is proposed for stochastic convex optimisation. Under the strongly convex assumption of the objective function, it is proved that the estimates generated from stochastic randomised‐difference descent converge to the optimal value with probability one, and the convergence rates of both the mean square error of estimates and the regret functions are established. Plant leaves play an important role in the diagnosis of plant diseases. Losses from such diseases can have a significant economic as well as environmental impact. Thus, examination of leaves into a healthy or infected carries substantial importance. An improved artificial plant optimization (IAPO) algorithm using machine learning has been introduced that identifies the plant diseases and categorize the leaves into healthy and infected on a private dataset of 236 images. Features are extracted from the images using histogram of oriented gradients (descriptor). The concepts of artificial plant optimization are then applied to study the features of healthy leaves using IAPO. A machine learning algorithm has been created to make the model adaptive with varied datasets. The degree of infection is eventually computed, and the leaves with infection greater than a certain calculated threshold are classified as infected leaves. The results show that IAPO can be used for classification of infected and healthy leaves and this algorithm can be generalized to solve problems in other domains as well. The proposed IAPO is also compared with other classification algorithms including k‐nearest neighbours, support vector machine, random forest and convolution neural network that show accuracies of 78.24%, 83.48%, 87.83%, and 91.26%, respectively, whereas IAPO shows quite accurate results in classification of leaves with an accuracy of 97.45% on training set and 95.0% accuracy on test set. Sobel edge detector is an algorithm commonly used in image processing and computer vision to extract edges from input images using derivative of image pixels in x and y directions against surrounding pixels. Most artificial intelligence and machine learning applications require image processing algorithms running in real time on hardware systems like field‐programmable gate array (FPGAs). They typically require high throughput to match real‐time speeds and since they run alongside other processing algorithms, they are required to be area efficient as well. This article proposes a high‐speed and low‐area implementation of the Sobel edge detection algorithm. We created the design using a novel high‐level synthesis (HLS) design method based on application specific bit widths for intermediate data nodes. Register transfer level code was generated using MATLAB hardware description language (HDL) coder for HLS. The generated HDL code was implemented on Xilinx Kintex 7 field programmable gate array (FPGA) using Xilinx Vivado software. Our implementation results are superior to those obtained for similar implementations using the vendor library block sets as well as those obtained by other researchers using similar implementations in the recent past in terms of area and speed. We tested our algorithm on Kintex 7 using real‐time input video with a frame resolution of 1920 × 1080. We also verified the functional simulation results with a golden MATLAB implementation using FPGA in the loop feature of HDL Verifier. Background and Aims: This systematic review aimed to evaluating the effectiveness of machine learning (ML) algorithms for the prediction and diagnosis of meningitis. Methods: On November 12, 2022, a systematic review was carried out using a keyword search in the reliable scientific databases PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science. The recommendations of Preferred Reporting for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) were adhered to. Studies conducted in English that employed ML to predict and identify meningitis were deemed to match the inclusion criteria. The eligibility requirements were used to independently review the titles and abstracts. The whole text was then obtained and independently reviewed in accordance with the eligibility requirements. Results: After all the research matched the inclusion criteria, a total of 16 studies were added to the systematic review. Studies on the application of ML algorithms in the three categories of disease diagnosis ability (8.16) and disease prediction ability (8.16) (including cases related to identifying patients (50%), risk of death in patients (25%), the consequences of the disease in childhood (12.5%), and its etiology [12.5%]) were placed. Among the ML algorithms used in this study, logistic regression (LR) (4.16, 25%) and multiple logistic regression (MLR) (4.16, 25%) were the most used. All the included studies indicated improvements in the processes of diagnosis, prediction, and disease outbreak with the help of ML algorithms. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that in all included studies, ML algorithms were an effective approach to facilitate diagnosis, predict consequences for risk classification, and improve resource utilization by predicting the volume of patients or services as well as discovering risk factors. The role of ML algorithms in improving disease diagnosis was more significant than disease prediction and prevalence. In this work, the requirement of using high‐precision (HP) signals is lifted and the circuits for implementing deep learning algorithms in memristor‐based hardware are simplified. The use of HP signals is required by the backpropagation learning algorithm since the gradient descent learning rule relies on the chain product of partial derivatives. However, it is both challenging and biologically implausible to implement such an HP algorithm in noisy and analog memristor‐based hardware systems. Herein, it is demonstrated that the requirement for HP signals handling is not necessary and more efficient deep learning can be achieved when using a binary stochastic learning algorithm. The new algorithm proposed in this work modifies elementary neural network operations, which improves energy efficiency by two orders of magnitude compared to traditional memristor‐based hardware and three orders of magnitude compared to complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor‐based hardware. Pressure injury (PI), or local damage to soft tissues and skin caused by prolonged pressure, remains controversial in the medical world. Patients in intensive care units (ICUs) were frequently reported to suffer PIs, with a heavy burden on their life and expenditures. Machine learning (ML) is a Section of artificial intelligence (AI) that has emerged in nursing practice and is increasingly used for diagnosis, complications, prognosis, and recurrence prediction. This study aims to investigate hospital‐acquired PI (HAPI) risk predictions in ICU based on a ML algorithm by R programming language analysis. The former evidence was gathered through PRISMA guidelines. The logical analysis was applied via an R programming language. The problem of adaptive semi‐active control of transient structural vibration induced by unknown harmonic excitation is studied. The controller adaptation is attained by using a specially designed reinforcement learning algorithm that adjusts the parameters of a switching control policy to guarantee efficient dissipation of the structural energy. This algorithm relies on an efficient gradient‐based sequence that accelerates the learning protocol and results in suboptimal control. The performance of this method is examined through numerical experiments for a span structure that is equipped with a semi‐active device of controlled stiffness and damping parameters. The experiments cover a selection of control learning scenarios and comparisons to optimal open‐loop and heuristic state‐feedback control strategies. This study has confirmed that the developed method has high stabilizing performance, and the relatively low computational burden of the incorporated iterative learning algorithm facilitates its application to multi–degree‐of‐freedom structures. The metaverse, where the virtual and real world are fused, is currently under rapid development. Immersive and vivid experience in the metaverse requires human–machine interaction devices that, unlike those currently available, are simultaneously imperceptible, convenient to use, inexpensive, and safe. Herein, an optical‐nanofiber‐based gesture‐recognition wristband that can accurately recognize gestures and be used to interact with a robotic hand is proposed and realized. Requiring only three optical‐nanofiber‐based pressure sensors, the wristband is simple in structure, convenient to use, and remarkably imperceptible to the user. With the assistance of a machine‐learning algorithm, a maximum recognition accuracy of 94% is achieved for testers with different physiques. A robotic hand can be remotely controlled by the wristband through gestures. The wristband has broad application prospects and is a promising solution for advanced human–machine‐interaction devices. The calculation of so-called "brain age" from structural MRIs has been an emerging biomarker in aging research. Data suggests that discrepancies between chronological age and the predicted age of the brain may be predictive of mortality and morbidity (for review, see Cole, Marioni, Harris, & Deary, 2019). However, with these promising results come technical complexities of how to calculate brain age. Various groups have deployed methods leveraging different statistical approaches, often crafting novel algorithms for assessing this biomarker derived from structural MRIs. There remain many open questions about the reliability, collinearity, and predictive power of different algorithms. Here, we complete a rigorous systematic comparison of three commonly used, previously published brain age algorithms (XGBoost, brainageR, and DeepBrainNet) to serve as a foundation for future applied research. First, using multiple datasets with repeated structural MRI scans, we calculated two metrics of reliability (intraclass correlations and Bland--Altman bias). We then considered correlations between brain age variables, chronological age, biological sex, and image quality. We also calculated the magnitude of collinearity between approaches. Finally, we used machine learning approaches to identify significant predictors across brain age algorithms related to clinical diagnoses of cognitive impairment. Using a large sample (N = 2557), we find all three commonly used brain age algorithms demonstrate excellent reliability (r > .9). We also note that brainageR and DeepBrainNet are reasonably correlated with one another, and that the XGBoost brain age is strongly related to image quality. Finally, and notably, we find that XGBoost brain age calculations were more sensitive to the detection of clinical diagnoses of cognitive impairment. Objective: Cuproptosis‐related genes are closely related to lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), which can be analyzed via the analysis of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA). To date, the clinical significance and function of cuproptosis‐related lncRNAs are still not well elucidated. Further analysis of cuproptosis‐related prognostic lncRNAs is of great significance for the treatment, diagnosis, and prognosis of LUAD. Methods: In this study, a multiple machine learning (ML)‐based computational approach was proposed for the identification of the cuproptosis‐related lncRNAs signature (CRlncSig) via comprehensive analysis of cuproptosis, lncRNAs, and clinical characteristics. The proposed approach integrated multiple ML algorithms (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis, univariate and multivariate Cox regression) to effectively identify the CRlncSig. Results: Based on the proposed approach, the CRlncSig was identified from the 3450 cuproptosis‐related lncRNAs, which consist of 13 lncRNAs (CDKN2A‐DT, FAM66C, FAM83A‐AS1, AL359232.1, FRMD6‐AS1, AC027237.4, AC023090.1, AL157888.1, AL627443.3, AC026355.2, AC008957.1, AP000346.1, and GLIS2‐AS1). Conclusions: The CRlncSig could well predict the prognosis of different LUAD patients, which is different from other clinical features. Moreover, the CRlncSig was proved to be an effective indicator of patient survival via functional characterization analysis, which is relevant to cancer progression and immune infiltration. Furthermore, the results of RT‐PCR assay indicated that the expression level of FAM83A‐AS1 and AC026355.2 in A549 and H1975 cells (LUAD) was significantly higher than that in BEAS‐2B cells (normal lung epithelial). Objective: To assess the feasibility of applying machine learning (ML) methods to imputation in the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS). Data Sources: All data come from the 2016–2017 MEPS. Study Design: Currently, expenditures for medical encounters in the MEPS are imputed with a predictive mean matching (PMM) algorithm in which a linear regression model is used to predict expenditures for events with (donors) and without (recipients) data. Recipient events and donor events are then matched based on the smallest distance between predicted expenditures, and the donor event's expenditures are used as the recipient event's imputation. We replace linear regression algorithm in the PMM framework with ML methods to predict expenditures. We examine five alternatives to linear regression: Gradient Boosting, Random Forests, Extreme Random Forests, Deep Neural Networks, and a Stacked Ensemble approach. Additionally, we introduce an alternative matching scheme, which matches on a vector of predicted expenditures by sources of payment instead of a single total expenditure prediction to generate potentially superior matches. Data Collection: Study data is derived from a large federal survey. Principal Findings: ML algorithms perform better at both prediction and matching imputation than Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), the most common prediction algorithm used in PMM. On average, the Stacked Ensemble approach that combines all the ML algorithms performs best, improving expenditure prediction R2 by 108% (0.156 points) and final imputation R2 by 227% (0.397 points). Matching on a prediction vector also improves alignment of sources of payments between donor and recipient events. Conclusions: ML algorithms and an alternative matching scheme improve the overall quality of expenditure PMM imputation in the MEPS. There has been a growing interest in the cooperative communication of power line and wireless dual‐medium, due to the promising transmission quality and immense flexibility of the network. However, under the condition of hybrid fading and impulsive noise, the theoretical analysis of two‐way relaying communication with power line and wireless is difficult because of the lack of closed analytical expressions. In this study, the authors propose a relaying signal processing method based on Log Likelihood Ratio information estimation for two‐way relaying systems; and a power allocation optimisation algorithm based on Q‐learning, which can adaptively select the appropriate transmission power to maximise the mutual information. More precisely, the ϵ ${\epsilon}$‐greedy strategy is adopted for the estimated forwarding protocol and the transmission power of each node is adjusted to determine the optimal power allocation factor. The present study tries to propose a new method which is using Central deference Kalman Filter (CDKF) as input index of deep machine learning (DML), for simulating state estimation and broken rotor bars (BRBs) diagnosis in induction motors (IMs). In addition, an advanced selective ensemble (DML) method applying the grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm to diagnose the BRBs in IMs is proposed in the following study. Here, in the initial step, in order to take sufficient datum within the usual efficiency, it is needed to train the DML network. The outcomes indicate that the offered scheme can more accurately and powerfully detect diverse forms of BRBs with an accuracy of more than 98%. And also, Filter precision is enhanced via changing the sigma points of the filter, however, the stability of the filter enhances more because of its utilization, and the CDKF is further stable and precise in comparison to the Unscented Kalman filter (UKF). The CDKF performance is assessed to estimate the speed and is used as input index of DML to diagnose the broken rotor bar in IMs. The obtained outcomes prove the performance of this combined scheme. Deep learning has emerged as the leading method in machine learning, spawning a rapidly growing field of academic research and commercial applications across medicine. Deep learning could have particular relevance to rheumatology if correctly utilized. The greatest benefits of deep learning methods are seen with unstructured data frequently found in rheumatology, such as images and text, where traditional machine learning methods have struggled to unlock the trove of information held within these data formats. The basis for this success comes from the ability of deep learning to learn the structure of the underlying data. It is no surprise that the first areas of medicine that have started to experience impact from deep learning heavily rely on interpreting visual data, such as triaging radiology workflows and computer‐assisted colonoscopy. Applications in rheumatology are beginning to emerge, with recent successes in areas as diverse as detecting joint erosions on plain radiography, predicting future rheumatoid arthritis disease activity, and identifying halo sign on temporal artery ultrasound. Given the important role deep learning methods are likely to play in the future of rheumatology, it is imperative that rheumatologists understand the methods and assumptions that underlie the deep learning algorithms in widespread use today, their limitations and the landscape of deep learning research that will inform algorithm development, and clinical decision support tools of the future. The best applications of deep learning in rheumatology must be informed by the clinical experience of rheumatologists, so that algorithms can be developed to tackle the most relevant clinical problems. Analog circuit design is comparatively more complex than its digital counterpart due to its nonlinearity and low level of abstraction. This study proposes a novel low‐level hybrid of the sine‐cosine algorithm (SCA) and modified grey‐wolf optimization (mGWO) algorithm for machine learning‐based design automation of CMOS analog circuits using an all‐CMOS voltage reference circuit in 40‐nm standard process. The optimization algorithm's efficiency is further tested using classical functions, showing that it outperforms other competing algorithms. The objective of the optimization is to minimize the variation and power usage, while satisfying all the design limitations. Through the interchange of scripts for information exchange between two environments, the SCA‐mGWO algorithm is implemented and simultaneously simulated. The results show the robustness of analog circuit design generated using the SCA‐mGWO algorithm, over various corners, resulting in a percentage variation of 0.85%. Machine learning algorithms are widely applied to biomedical data to classify the samples of patients and healthy persons. The high‐dimensional biomedical datasets contain a large number of features to represent a sample. However, such datasets may have redundant, noisy and irrelevant features, influencing machine learning algorithms' classification performance and increasing computation overhead. Therefore, data normalization and feature selection techniques are introduced to reduce the impact of noisy features and accurately identify the patterns in features to improve the predictive accuracy of diagnosis. This work proposes an efficient feature selection and parameter optimization method to classify high‐dimensional biomedical datasets. In the proposed method, a binary version of the improved elephant herding optimization (IEHO) algorithm is introduced to select features and optimize the C and γ parameters of the support vector machine classifier. Further, four variants of the proposed method are presented based on data normalization techniques: Z‐score normalization (ZN), Pareto‐scaling (PS), tan h‐based normalization (TN), and variant of tan h‐based normalization (VTN). The proposed variants reduce the dominance of noisy features and explore the feature space to obtain the optimal feature set that maximizes the classification accuracy and minimizes the time complexity. The performance of the proposed variants is evaluated on 15 high‐dimensional biomedical datasets. Friedman's mean rank test is applied to check the statistical difference between proposed variants. Results show that the proposed Z‐score normalization‐IEHO (ZN‐IEHO) variant performed significantly better than the other proposed variants for classification accuracy, false‐positive rate and f‐score metrics. Moreover, the performance of the proposed ZN‐IEHO variant is compared with 18 state‐of‐the‐art feature selection methods. The experimental results expressed the effectiveness of the proposed ZN‐IEHO variant in finding the best combination of features and parameters to classify the biomedical datasets accurately. We present a method for classification of the two distinct types of electrical activity that occur during an explosive volcanic eruption: vent discharges and lightning. Vent discharges occur at the onset of an explosion and create a distinctive radio frequency signature called continual radio frequency. Seconds to minutes after the onset of the eruption, lightning begins to occur throughout the eruption column. We use logistic regression to classify a radio frequency impulse as being part of either a lightning flash or a period of continual radio frequency. The classifier uses the number of peaks in the amplitude envelope from 1 ms windows before and after the impulsive very high frequency waveform, with an average accuracy of 97.9%. We propose that this method could be used in an algorithm to determine when explosive eruptions occurred by identification of the distinctive signatures of vent discharges and lightning. Plain Language Summary: We present a method for automated identification of two distinct types of electrical activity from explosive volcanic eruptions. Explosive eruptions produce lightning, just like thunderstorms. In addition, they also produce small (<4 m) spark‐like electrical discharges at the vent of a volcano, which are called vent discharges. These vent discharges occur for relatively long durations compared to the duration of a typical lightning flash (seconds vs. hundreds of milliseconds) and are thus easily distinguishable in very high frequency (30–300 MHz) electric field measurements. We use logistic regression to classify an electric field impulse as either being part of a lightning flash or a vent discharge. The classifier uses the number of peaks in the electric field signal in 1 ms time windows before and after an electric field impulse. The accuracy of the classifier is 97.9%. We explain that the classifier could be used on a low‐power lightning sensor to automatically identify that an explosive eruption had occurred. We discuss how this capability would enable a new era of volcanic lightning monitoring that would allow for new research into understanding the physical mechanisms of vent discharges to learn how they can be used during the response to an eruption. The COVID‐19 pandemic has huge effects on the global community and an extreme burden on health systems. There are more than 185 million confirmed cases and 4 million deaths as of July 2021. Besides, the exponential rise in COVID‐19 cases requires a quick prediction of the patients' severity for better treatment. In this study, we propose a Multi‐threaded Genetic feature selection algorithm combined with Extreme Learning Machines (MG‐ELM) to predict the severity level of the COVID‐19 patients. We conduct a set of experiments on a recently published real‐world dataset. We reprocess the dataset via feature construction to improve the learning performance of the algorithm. Upon comprehensive experiments, we report the most impactful features and symptoms for predicting the patients' severity level. Moreover, we investigate the effects of multi‐threaded implementation with statistical analysis. In order to verify the efficiency of MG‐ELM, we compare our results with traditional and state‐of‐the‐art techniques. This study explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on user entrepreneurs, driving factors and user entrepreneurship process combined with its characteristics and development trends. Moreover, this study sorts out the logic of user entrepreneurship change in the AI era. This study achieves four findings. First, AI contributes to entrepreneurs by collecting large user data and intelligently analysing them to obtain optimal entrepreneurial judgements and decisions. Second, entrepreneurs may use AI systems to understand users' potential needs and get user demand information (e.g. more accurate and more major shortcomings of the products). Third, AI assists entrepreneurs in obtaining robust data of product users, including leading and ordinary users, for a wider audience. Fourth, AI replaces the original intergenerational product replacement model with intermittent and periodic characteristics for entrepreneurial activities and reforms the three‐stage user entrepreneurial process: product element deconstruction, product verification matching and innovative product commercialization. Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the most serious and alarming diabetic complications, which often leads to high amputation rates in diabetic patients. Machine learning is a part of the field of artificial intelligence, which can automatically learn models from data and better inform clinical decision‐making. We aimed to develop an accurate and explainable prediction model to estimate the risk of in‐hospital amputation in patients with DFU. A total of 618 hospitalised patients with DFU were included in this study. The patients were divided into non‐amputation, minor amputation or major amputation group. Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) and 5‐fold cross‐validation tools were used to construct a multi‐class classification model to predict the three outcomes of interest. In addition, we used the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) algorithm to interpret the predictions of the model. Our area under the receiver‐operating‐characteristic curve (AUC) demonstrated a 0.90, 0.85 and 0.86 predictive ability for non‐amputation, minor amputation and major amputation outcomes, respectively. Taken together, our data demonstrated that the developed explainable machine learning model provided accurate estimates of the amputation rate in patients with DFU during hospitalisation. In this article, a hybrid algorithm has been proposed for the identification of phishing and legitimate websites. The dataset may have an imbalanced class distribution and may consist of irrelevant features. Therefore, in the data preprocessing, the adaptive synthetic sampling approach has been used to handle the imbalanced data. Irrelevant or redundant features are removed from the balanced data using the proposed binary version of Rao algorithms. The S‐shaped and V‐shaped transfer functions are applied for mapping continuous search space to discrete search space. Also, the results of these S‐shaped and V‐shaped transfer functions are analyzed for proposed algorithms. The performance is improved by optimizing the value of the k parameter in the kNN classifier. The dataset used in this article has been taken from the UCI machine‐learning repository. The performance of the proposed approach has been evaluated using the polygon area metric. The obtained classification accuracy is 97.044%. A comparison of the proposed hybrid algorithm with the other state‐of‐the‐art techniques is also made for validation. Moreover, the proposed approach has been compared with seven metaheuristic feature selection algorithms and six filter methods for performance analysis. Since fatigue investigations are expensive and time consuming, models capable of predicting lifetime by leveraging existing experimental data are desirable. Here, this task is accomplished by combining machine learning (ML) and finite element analysis (FEA). The dataset contains 365 points comprising four adhesives with four different joint types. The model is fed with four input parameters: stress ratio and stress amplitude (functions of the applied load), and stress concentration factor and multiaxiality, which are obtained from FEA. An extremely randomized trees (ERT) algorithm, capable of dealing with small and noisy datasets, is used to design the model. After calibration, the model's performance was assessed on unseen data and compared with a linear regression model. The ERT predictions yield a significantly smaller error factor (ER) of 2.13 than that of the linear model (ER = 5.89). A relevance analysis shows that at least one FEA‐based parameter must be fed into the model. Artificial neural network is a machine learning algorithm that has been widely used in many application areas. The performance of the algorithm depends on the type of the problem, the size of the problem, and the architecture of the algorithm. One of the most important things that affect ANN's performance is the selection of hyper‐parameters, but there is not a specific rule to determine the hyper‐parameters of the algorithm. Although there is no single well‐known method in hyper‐parameter tuning, this issue has been discussed in many studies. In this study, a central composite design which is a successful response surface methodology technique that considers factor interactions is used for hyper‐parameter optimization. A categorical central composite design that has 39 experimental runs was used to predict accuracy and F‐score. The effect of ANN hyper‐parameters on selected performance indicators is investigated using two different size customer churn prediction data set, which is widely used in the literature. Using the desirability functions, multiple objectives are combined and the best hyper‐parameter levels are selected. As a result of verification tests, the accuracy values are 85.79% and 83.29% for the first and second data set, respectively. And, the F‐score values are 86.15% and 82.33% for the first and second data set, respectively. The results show the effectiveness of the adopted RSM technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Predictive models based on the Choquet integral have been applied successfully in machine learning and multi criteria decision making context. The ability of the Choquet integral to recognize and capture non‐linear dependencies and its comprehensibility make it a very appealing tool. Yet, its complexity is often an obstacle to estimate model parameters in the presence of a large number of attributes. The other concern is the so‐called numerical instability, that is, learning the Choquet integral for a high degree of complexity exhibits a numerical instability. This study addresses complexity reduction and presents a novel algorithm in order to enhance the quality of optimization results and computational efficiency of learning predictive models underlying the Choquet integral. In geophysics, crowdsourcing is an emerging nontraditional environmental monitoring approach that supports data acquisition from individual citizens. However, because of the involvement of undertrained citizens and imprecise low‐cost sensors, crowdsourced data applications suffer from different types of noises that can deteriorate the overall monitoring accuracy. In this study, we propose a machine learning approach for automatic crowdsourced data quality control (CSQC) that detects and removes noisy data inputs in spatially and temporally discrete crowdsourced observations coming from both fixed‐point sensors (e.g., surveillance cameras) and moving sensors (e.g., moving cars/pedestrians). We design a set of features from original and interpolated rainfall data and use them to train and test the CSQC models using both supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms. The performances of the CSQC models under various scenarios assuming no retraining are also tested (hereafter referred to as transferability). The results based on synthetic but realistic data show that the CSQC models can significantly reduce the overall rainfall estimate errors. Under the stationary assumption, the CSQC models based on both supervised and unsupervised algorithms perform well in noisy data identification and overall rainfall estimation error reduction; however, if the model is transferred to other cities with different rainfall patterns or noise compositions (without retraining), supervised multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) show the best performance. Developing high-performing machine learning algorithms requires large amounts of annotated data. Manual annotation of data is labour-intensive, and the cost and effort needed are an important obstacle to the development and deployment of automated analysis. In a previous work, we have shown that deep learning classifiers can successfully be trained on synthetic images and annotations. Here, we provide a curated set of fish image data and backgrounds, the necessary software tools to generate synthetic images and annotations, and annotated real datasets to test classifier performance. The dataset is constructed from images collected using the Deep Vision system during two surveys from 2017 and 2018 that targeted economically important pelagic species in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean. We annotated a total of 1,879 images, randomly selected across trawl stations from both surveys, comprising 482 images of blue whiting, 456 images of Atlantic herring, 341 images of Atlantic mackerel, 335 images of mesopelagic fishes and 265 images containing a mixture of the four categories. Considering the nonlinear relationship between variables and fatigue life and the computational burden, a machine learning method integrating the artificial neural network (ANN) and partial least squares (PLS) algorithm was proposed as a framework to identify the genetic features through optimizing fatigue life prediction. Twenty‐seven specimens of 316LN stainless steel under uniaxial and multiaxial loadings were used as examples. As results, early fatigue data were proved to be informative for fatigue life prediction. Moreover, five genetic features were identified out of them, and a predicting model was developed. The predicted fatigue life of these samples using only these five genetic features were all located within the 1.5‐factor band. This framework can be easily extended to identify genetic features and to predict fatigue life of other materials under different loadings. Policy PointsWith increasing integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning in medicine, there are concerns that algorithm inaccuracy could lead to patient injury and medical liability.While prior work has focused on medical malpractice, the artificial intelligence ecosystem consists of multiple stakeholders beyond clinicians. Current liability frameworks are inadequate to encourage both safe clinical implementation and disruptive innovation of artificial intelligence.Several policy options could ensure a more balanced liability system, including altering the standard of care, insurance, indemnification, special/no‐fault adjudication systems, and regulation. Prices are increasingly set by algorithms. One concern is that intelligent algorithms may learn to collude on higher prices even in the absence of the kind of coordination necessary to establish an antitrust infringement. However, exactly how this may happen is an open question. I show how in simulated sequential competition, competing reinforcement learning algorithms can indeed learn to converge to collusive equilibria when the set of discrete prices is limited. When this set increases, the algorithm considered increasingly converges to supra‐competitive asymmetric cycles. For the image segmentation task, deep features‐based deep learning methods have strict data requirements on the quality and quantity, which limits their application in irregular scenes, such as the villages subjected to geological hazards in the complex mountains. However, traditional algorithms with shallow and middle features are unable to utilize the complex information of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing images effectively. To address this issue, we proposed a new image segmentation algorithm by using the RGB component difference clustering (RGBCDC). In this method, after dimensionality reduction of RGB color space from three dimensions to two dimensions, the distance between similar objects would be diminished and the distance between disturbance areas would be enlarged. Two different UAV data sets (3,000 in total) have been used to compare the proposed algorithm with the traditional segmentation algorithms and the deep learning‐based methods. Results show that the average pixel accuracy is 13.11%, 11.86%, 13.84%, 8.00%, and 9.86% higher than Octree Quantization clustering algorithm, Region Growing algorithm, Watershed algorithm, K‐Means algorithm, and SLIC superpixel segmentation algorithm, respectively. When facing insufficient samples, the new method performed better than deep learning algorithms, such as Deeplabv3, PSPnet, UNET, and UISBB. In general, the proposed algorithm for building segmentation shows a better potential for use in uncommon situations, especially for rapid emergency rescue after serious mountain hazards. The post‐silicon validation and debug is the most important task in the contemporary integrated circuit design methodology. The vital problem prevailing in this system is that it has limited observability and controllability due to the minimum number of storage space in the trace buffer. This tends to select the signals prudently in order to maximize state reconstruction. In the reported works, to select and to restore the signals efficiently it is categorized into two types like low simulation with high‐quality technique and high simulation with low‐quality technique. In this work, a node‐based combinational gate signal selection algorithm is proposed based on machine learning method that maximizes the state restoration capability.
