Background: Repeated contact with patients with COVID-19 and working in quarantine conditions has made health workers vulnerable to psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the present systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the prevalence of the various psychological distresses among health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched for access to papers examining psychological distress among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Heterogeneity among the studies was examined using the Cochran's Q test; because heterogeneity was significant, the random effects model was used to examine the prevalence of psychological distress. Results: Overall, 12 studies with a total sample size of 5265 were eligible and included in the analysis. Prevalence rates of depression, anxiety, and PTSD were 20% (95% CI: 14-27), 23% (95% CI: 18-27), and 8% (95% CI: 6-9), respectively. The highest prevalence rates of depression and anxiety were related to the SDS and the GAD-7, respectively, and the lowest prevalence rates of the two aforementioned variables were related to the DASS-21. Conclusions: The high prevalence of psychological distress among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 epidemic can have negative effects on their health and the quality of services provided. Background: Health-care workers' psychological status is essential to Preventive control measures in a weak and unstable health system with poor infrastructural constraints. This study examines the psychological impact of the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the health-care providers working in primary health-care settings in Sudan. Materials and Methods: This is a health facility–based cross-sectional study conducted in primary health-care units in White Nile State, Sudan. The psychological impact of stress and anxiety was determined using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21). A self-administered questionnaire measured depression, anxiety, and stress. The population of this study included health professionals working in health centers, including physicians, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, and other support staff. Results: A total of 167 health professionals were systematically recruited. The mean anxiety score in the study population was 8.26 & 9.0 (corresponding to mild anxiety). Participants without anxiety constituted 26.35% (n = 44) of the participants. Women were significantly more likely to be affected than men (P = 0.0). Age (21–40 years), female nurses, and other health-care workers (anesthesiology, public health, health education, occupational health, psychiatry, etc.) could be strong predictors of psychological disorders (P-value of 0.0). Conclusion: This study provided evidence for primary health care at its preparatory levels, as they are the first line of protection against the COVID-19 pandemic. Context: The COVID-19 vaccination drive globally was supposedly a game-changing event. However, the emerging variants of the virus and waning immunity over time posed new challenges for breakthrough infections. Standing at the frontline of defense against COVID-19, healthcare personnel (HCP) were vulnerable to such infections. Aims: This study estimates i) the vaccine breakthrough infections (VBI) among HCP following exposure to COVID-19 cases, and ii) the mean interval between the second dose of vaccine and laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted including 385 HCP with a history of exposure to COVID-19 cases during January and February 2022. Demographic details and clinical and vaccination history were collected from the test forms and the Web-based hospital management system. Laboratory testing of COVID-19 was carried out by real-time RT-PCR test. Results: The majority of the HCP were males (262; 68.05%) and nurses (180; 46.75%) by occupation. Two doses of vaccines were received by 278 (87.7%) HCP. VBI was confirmed in 185 (66.55%) HCP. No significant difference in VBI between the COVAXIN and COVISHIELD recipients (P = 0.69) was observed. The interval between the second dose and confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection was significantly higher (P < 0.00001) in COVAXIN recipients (median 228 days) than in COVISHIELD recipients (median 95 days). Conclusions: The incidence of VBI was very high among the HCP, but not statistically different among the COVAXIN and COVISHIELD-recipients. Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic caused a huge impact on the healthcare system worldwide. With a spectrum of outcome ranging from mild symptoms to mortality, the experiences of patients admitted in isolation wards have not been documented. Objective: To explore the experience of COVID-19 patients during hospitalization during the early phase of pandemic. Materials and Methods: A qualitative study using in-depth interviews was conducted among 30 COVID positive patients admitted in COVID wards of a private medical college in Coimbatore, South India between May and June 2020. Qualitative data analysis was done using the seven steps of Colaizzi's descriptive phenomenological method. Results: The experiences of COVID-19 patients during their hospitalization were categorized into three themes. Firstly, their initial reaction to being diagnosed positive for COVID-19. Secondly, experience during hospitalization with regards to their mental health, treatment providers, caregivers (family and relatives) and other COVID patients admitted in the same ward. Lastly, perceived change in their quality of life after discharge. Conclusion: The study highlights that the psychological experiences of COVID-19 patients admitted to the hospital were heterogeneous. Therefore, primary care physicians should provide individualized psychological interventions based on the needs. Since many expressed fear on diagnosis and stigma of the disease, hence policy makers and health care providers should plan intervention for control and treatment without causing stigma to patients and their families. Background As with other medical specialties throughout the epidemic, general surgical clinics' treatment protocols have changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has become a serious danger to healthcare systems. The presence of severe COVID-19 in young individuals and among medical workers has exacerbated the psychological burden on clinicians treating patients suspected of having or being infected with SARS-CoV-2, even if comorbidities and older age are statistically linked to higher death rates. Patients and methods A retrospective comparative study included patients who were admitted to the emergency room (ER), surgical, or managing conservatory for acute surgical abdomen. All subjects were divided into three groups. 1186 patients; out of them, 490 cases were examined before the pandemic, 334 cases were examined during the pandemic, and 362 cases were examined after vaccination. Results Before the pandemic, the commonest cause of acute abdomen was appendicitis (21.8%), strangulated hernia (21%), and cholecystectomy (17.8%). During the pandemic, the commonest cause of acute abdomen was appendicitis (21.8%), cholecystectomy (16.8%), and Mesenteric venous occlusion (MVO)/Mesenteric Artial occlusion (MAO) (13.8%). After the pandemic, the commonest causes of acute abdomen were cholecystectomy (25.4%), appendicitis (24.6%), and exploration abdomen (11.9%). The time of management differed significantly among the studied groups. The highest requirement for immediate intervention was attributed to the before pandemic group, while during the pandemic group was associated with conservative management, and after conservative management. Conclusion The Sars-Cov-2 pandemic highly affected the clinical presentation, aetiology, diagnostic and paraclinical investigations, and therapeutic management, as well as the changes in emergency practice procedures. BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers are under significant constant stress as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The aim of this study, therefore, was to analyze bibliometrically the impact, trend, and characteristics of scientific production related to the mental health of health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A bibliometric analysis of the scientific production on the mental health of health professionals and COVID-19 in Scopus from December 2019 to December 2021 was performed. An advanced search was designed using Boolean operators in Scopus and applied in April 2022. The metadata was entered into Microsoft Excel for the elaboration of the tables, SciVal to obtain the bibliometric indicators, and VosViewer to plot collaborative networks. RESULTS: A total of 1393 manuscripts, 1007 of which met the eligibility criteria, were found on the mental health of health workers and COVID-19.The country with the highest academic production was the United States and Harvard University with 27 manuscripts as the most productive institution. The scientific journal with the highest scientific production was the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health with 138 manuscripts and 1580 citations, and the author with the most citations per publication was Carnnasi Claudia with 69.8. CONCLUSION: The countries with the highest economic income occupy the first places in scientific production on the mental health of health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the United States as the leader. Background: The unprecedented onset of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had a huge impact on health-care facilities, leading to different psychosocial challenges among health-care workers (HCWs) during this pandemic. Aim: This study aimed to explore the impact of COVID-19 on the work, family, and personal life of HCWs engaged in COVID-19 duties during the first wave in India and gain insights on the coping strategies. Materials and Methods: The findings from 12 qualitative in-depth interviews were analyzed and presented in this article. This study is a part of a mix-method design study conducted at two hospitals and one community site in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The present qualitative sample was drawn conveniently from the randomly selected quantitative sample chosen from the three sites. Results: This study highlights that in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, HCWs experienced transition in work life, burnout, disruption in family life, negative emotions such as fear, and experiences of stigma. The findings also reveal that while institutional workers faced discrimination and stigma outside their workplace, noninstitutional workers faced discrimination at multiple sites during traveling and at in their residential places and additionally faced harassment while working in the community. The findings also suggest that despite numerous challenges faced by HCWs, they were driven by a sense of responsibility and displayed resilience. Conclusion: Considering the HCWs as the backbone of the health-care system, it is crucial to boost and maintain the mental well-being of HCWs by providing timely and tailored interventions to sustain their resilience and build better responses to future pandemic. Across India, there have been multiple studies conducted to address the issues of the mental health of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study estimated the pooled prevalence of psychological morbidity among healthcare workers during the early phase of the COVID 19 pandemic in India. We searched the following electronic bibliographic databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley online library, and Google scholar for studies conducted from the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic until 25 September 2021. The methodological quality of each study was scored and outcome measures with uniform cut off scores as per various screening measurements were evaluated. According to the current meta analysis, the pooled estimates of depression, anxiety, stress, and insomnia among Indian healthcare workers during the COVID 19 pandemic are 20.1% (95% CI: 15.6 to 24.6%; n = 21 studies), 25.0% (95% CI: 18.4 to 31.6%; n = 20 studies), 36% (95% CI: 23.7 to 48.2%; n = 22 studies) and 18.9% (95% CI: 9.9 to 28.0%; n = 6 studies) respectively. In subgroup analyses, low quality studies based on the JBI checklist (Score < 3/9) and studies using DASS 21 showed a higher pooled prevalence of depression and anxiety. About 20–36% of the healthcare workers in India reported having depression, anxiety, and stress during the early phase of the COVID 19 pandemic. The present study provides a comprehensive review of the overall burden of mental health problems among healthcare workers during the COVID 19 pandemic in India necessitating appropriate intervention strategies to protect these frontline groups before the memory of the pandemic crisis starts to fade. Health economics has long been neglected as a subset of the larger discipline of Economics and Finance. However, this could not be further from the truth. There is a large body of researchers and professionals alike that are of the consensus that extensive studying and working upon Healthcare Economics can help us avert the situation that arose in the wake of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Applying the core principles of Health Economics to a situation like that would help avert bad outcomes. In this article, the authors begin by defining and establishing the concepts of Health Economics and then building on them. We further explain the concepts in light of the Indian Economy and Healthcare Sector and how it has seen unprecedented growth in the last decade. Furthermore, we touch on the various diseases that put the most strain on the healthcare infrastructure and what we can do to make the situation better. We also shed light on how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the Health Economics in the Indian setting and go on to elaborate how India managed to tackle it. Finally, we elaborate on what steps we can take, as researchers and healthcare professionals, to make it easier for the common man to get access to better and more economical healthcare. We determine the importance and effectiveness of data collection and processing and also how to make better research attempts to study, evaluate and process that said data. The onus falls on the academic and the healthcare professional to ensure that the true meaning of Health Economics is not reduced to a mere numbers game, but is something which is truly subjective and for the benefit of the masses. Introduction: Telemedicine has emerged as an essential interface between health care providers and patients during the pandemic. The present study was done to assess this technology's level of acceptance and satisfaction amongst the patients. Methods: We did a retrospective study amongst patients >18 years (n = 300) who had availed telemedicine services in different departments of a tertiary care hospital between May and August 2020. The patients were interviewed telephonically using a pre-tested semi-structured tool that collected information about the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, and satisfaction was measured on a 5-point Likert Scale. Results: Fifty-five percent patients received teleconsultation via a telephone call, while the others preferred video calling services on WhatsApp messenger. Overall, more than 97% of the clients depicted satisfaction with the telemedicine services in three major domains: registration/appointment services, consultation with the doctor and post-consultation services. Some of the common feedback included difficulty in getting medicine using the scanned copy of prescription slip generated by the hospital, problems faced in reimbursement of the bills, long waiting period, and poor quality of video calls due to slow internet. Conclusion: Telemedicine proved to be an efficient means of communication for many patients during the pandemic. Though patient satisfaction was high with the services received by them, timely assessment of the problems encountered in the implementation of telemedicine services will help evolve the services not just during the pandemic but even after that. Background: Healthcare professionals are particularly more vulnerable to Covid-19 pandemic infection, since they are on the front lines. The relatively high morbidity and mortality among healthcare workers all over the world because of Covid-19 is a major cause of concern. Objectives: To explore the awareness of the healthcare workers in primary care settings regarding COVID-19 as well as the role of personnel protective equipment (PPE) as protective measures and to discover any defects for further intervention. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional study design was carried out in the Al-Baha Region, Southwest of Saudi Arabia. It included a representative random sample of healthcare workers working at primary health care (PHC) centers belonging to the Ministry of Health. A self-administered valid questionnaire was utilized in the present study, which included three main parts: demographic data of the healthcare workers; questions to assess their knowledge about the current COVID-19 pandemic (four multiple choice questions); and questions to assess knowledge about personal protective measures and hand hygiene (ten questions). Results: The study included 451 participants. The age of more than half of the participants (51.7%) ranged between 31 and 45 years. Females represented 53.2% of them. Physicians, nurses, and pharmacists represented 36.1%, 24.2%, and 23.3% of the participants, respectively. History of attending infection control training activity in the previous 12 months was reported by 38.1% of the participants. Overall, 74.5% and 19.1% of the participants expressed a poor level of knowledge regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic and PPE/personal hygiene, respectively. Older healthcare workers (HCWs) (> 45 years), non-Saudi nationals, dentists, moderately experienced healthcare workers (6–10 years), and those who attended infection control training courses were more knowledgeable about the current COVID-19 pandemic and its self-protective measures compared to others. Conclusion: Most of the primary healthcare staff in the Al-Baha Region expressed a poor level of knowledge about the current COVID-19 pandemic and a moderate level regarding PPE and personal hygiene. Aims: This review aims to map the needs and challenges in the application of teledentistry and online referral system encountered by dental health care professionals in Indonesian primary health care centers (puskesmas) to provide safe dental health service to the population during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: Literature search was undertaken of both in Indonesian and overseas context related to teledentistry. Narrative review of the literature was written to present the challenges, solutions, and application of teledentistry at Puskesmas to optimize oral health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: Online referral system and teledentistry are options to help dental health service delivery in the pandemic era. While it has been adopted in many private clinics, there are many challenges to adopt it at the puskesmas level due to a lack of infrastructure, human resources, and budget allocation. While the Indonesian government has plans to support the digitization in the education and health sector, this pandemic shall pose an opportunity for Indonesian health department to develop and facilitate the use of teledentistry and online referral system. During this situation, health cadres can bridge the relationship between Puskesmas and the poor community through the help of teledentistry. Conclusions: The government commitment in applying online referral system and teledentistry in Puskesmas is needed. Dental education institutions can help to supply human resources, who are capable of developing and carrying out the most suitable teledentistry application for all stakeholders. Introduction: Till date, there is no particular medicine that has shown minimum impact on COVID-19 cases and mortality and prevention by vaccination remains the only option. Objective: This study aims to explore knowledge, attitude, and practices of healthcare workers (HCWs) toward COVID-19 vaccine. Material and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study done on HCWs. Both online (Google forms) and offline, the study questionnaire was distributed. The questionnaire was validated and consisted of knowledge, attitude, and perception about COVID-19 questions. Results: A total of 300 HCWs were included in the study. A total of 144 (48%) of the HCWs were aged between 18 and 30 years. In addition, 191 (63.34%) participants were willing to take any COVID-19 vaccine while 20 (6.67%) are not sure of taking vaccine. A total of 208 (69.34%) felt that COVID-19 vaccine will limit the spread of infection to family members. Furthermore, 225 (75%) felt that family physicians' decision is important to take a decision on vaccination, whereas 199 (66.33%) avail COVID-19 information from government sources. Moreover, 264 (88%) felt that success will depend on general peoples' acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. Furthermore, 77 (25.67%) said that they will not be taking COVID-19 vaccine because of side effects, 229 (76.33%) felt that vaccine safety is important, and 144 (48%) are not sure if vaccination will end the COVID 19 pandemic. Discussion: Challenges to motivate HCWs, family physician, and general population needs to be undertaken by focusing on factors like information and education, vaccine side effects, and availability of the vaccine. Introduction: COVID-19 has created a significant impact on dentists and oral health professionals. This research aimed to explore the perspective of dental officers (DOs) and dental managers (DMs) on behavioral preventative strategies and recommendations for preventing the virus transmission in the dental clinics in Fiji. Materials and Methods: This qualitative study was conducted among DOs and DMs who worked in nine private dental clinics, eight government dental clinics, and one School of Dentistry and Oral Health clinic (SDOH), in the Central Division, Fiji between August 9 and September 12, 2021. The participants were selected using purposive sampling method using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Self-developed semi-structured open-ended questionnaires were used for data collection through in-depth interviews via zoom. Manual thematic analysis of the data was conducted. Results: Thirty DOs and 17 DMs participated in this study. Seven themes emerged from data analysis: Risk perception-COVID-19 versus dentistry; Staff safety, satisfaction, and motivation; Breaking the chain of infection transmission; Adaptability, and acceptance; Shared responsibility; Roles and knowledge; and Importance of good planning. Majority of participants felt that dental professionals are at high risk, and hence, need to take extra precautionary measures. Participants also stated that more care should be provided to patients by accepting the situation and moving forward. Conclusion: This study highlighted the importance of dentists in preventing disease transmission in a dental setting. Continuation with the protocols and strategies gave the participants more sense of protection. The importance of good planning, accepting the situation, and moving forward was highlighted. Objectives: Medical interns were among the frontline healthcare workers during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and represented a special group of key workers. They were both learners and care providers, experiencing great challenges during the pandemic. This study examined the prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among Omani medical interns during the COVID-19 pandemic and determined the independent predictors of depression and anxiety among the study sample. Methods: This online cross-sectional study was conducted among a random sample of Omani medical interns from 2020 to 2021, using a self-reported questionnaire that included the patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), generalized anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7) information related to vaccination status and caring for patients with COVID-19. Results: A total of 193 interns participated in this study (81% females). The median age was 26 years. Female participants scored higher for both anxiety (P = 0.200) and depression scales (P = 0.183). Most of the participants (143, 74.1%) had a negative result following testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), with significant association with vaccination status (P = 0.004), especially for participants who had taken the first dose (51%). Participants who had the first dose of the vaccine significantly tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 (P = 0.053) compared to participants who had not had the vaccine. The GAD-7 and PHQ-9 showed that 150 (79%) and 91 (47%) participants had mild to severe anxiety and depression. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has directly contributed to the development of psychologic distress among medical interns, which can lead to adverse outcomes. This study emphasizes the importance of including disaster management and psychologic well-being training program during the internship to help medical interns better cope in crises, such as a pandemic. Background: Since the occurrence of the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic, healthcare workers (HCWs) have been strictly adhering to infection control practices within healthcare facilities. However, regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand hygiene have led to increased prevalence of skin damage, subsequently impacting the quality of life (QoL). Objective: To analyse the connection between skin damage and the QoL among HCWs in a multicenter setting in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among HCWs working in hospitals in Banten Province, Indonesia. The data was obtained using a reliable self-reported questionnaire (Cronbach α 0.765) and a validated Indonesian version of the Dermatology Life Quality Index. Results: A total of 113 respondents (56.5%) who experienced at least one self-perceived PPE-related skin damage and had worn PPE of any level within the last 7 days were analysed. The mean age ± SD of respondents was 26.09 ± 6.22 years old, while the mean DLQI score ± SD was 5.46 ± 4.88, with a median of 4.0 (range, 0-24). The regression model showed that the level of PPE used (P < 0.05) to be a significant risk factor. Conclusions: Skin damage due to PPE affects HCWs physically and emotionally. It is crucial to recognise its impact on life and reinforce awareness, prevention, and treatment of skin damage. Dermatologist referral and intervention should be considered for optimum management.
