While an expanding corpus of empirical investigations has underscored the deleterious ramifications of partner phubbing on interpersonal communication and relationship quality, there remains a paucity of scholarly inquiry into its underlying internal mechanisms engendering such adverse outcomes. In light of this gap, based on cognitive appraisal theory, this study examined the effects of emotional factor (romantic jealousy) and behavioral factor (relational aggression) between young adults' partner phubbing and intimacy quality. A sample of 512 Chinese young adults who in love (202 males and 310 females, age range 19–25 accounts for 97.8%) were included in the study. Results indicated that, after controlling for relationship length, partner phubbing was significantly and negatively related to young adults' intimacy quality, and this relation was mediated by romantic jealousy and relational aggression. Moreover, the current study tested the role of sex by multi-group analysis. Results showed that females could suffer more from partner phubbing than males. Amidst the escalating prevalence of smartphones within romantic contexts, this pioneering study sets forth a novel proposition by establishing a crucial link between partner phubbing and the diminished intimacy quality experienced by young adults. Phubbing—i.e. excluding and ignoring others through smartphone use—is a pervasive phenomenon. Yet, a comprehensive understanding of its consequences is still lacking. This systematic meta-analytic review aimed to (1) synthesize the associations between being phubbed and emotional and cognitive, social, and behavioural well-being, (2) test the strength of these associations, and (3) investigate moderating influences. Literature searches according to PRISMA-guidelines yielded k = 83 included studies. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted for 24 of 72 extracted consequences. Subgroup analyses were performed for phubbees' relationship to interlocutors, age group, and study design. The overall sample was N = 53,916 with a mean age of 19.68 years. Being phubbed was moderately to strongly (e.g. $\hat{{\rm \rho }}$ ρ ˆ =.23–.75) associated with various adverse consequences (e.g. depression, relationship dissatisfaction, derogation of interlocutors, smartphone addiction). Effects were larger for adolescents than for adults. The findings are in line with existing theoretical assumptions (e.g. the temporal need-threat model of ostracism) corroborating that phubbing is a detrimental experience. Thus, phubbing appears to be a public health issue which should be addressed through suitable interventions in order to enhance healthy human-human and human-technology interactions. This study aimed to examine the relationship between adolescent self-esteem and aggressive behavior. Specifically, a moderated chain mediation model was developed to investigate the mediating role of jealousy and self-control and the moderating role of gender. Data were collected from 652 Chinese adolescents who completed the Self-Esteem Scale, Self-Report Jealousy Scale, Self-Control Scale and Aggressive Behavior Questionnaire. Results showed that adolescent self-esteem may significantly negatively affect aggressive behavior by mediating with jealousy and self-control. Moreover, gender possibly moderates the serial mediating effect of jealousy and self-control between adolescent self-esteem and aggressive behavior. The results have important theoretical and practical implications in that these reveal the influencing factors of adolescent aggressive behavior and the pathways to reduce such behavior. Introduction: Understanding the specific risk profile for distinct forms of dating aggression (DA) is very informative to define cross-cutting interventions. The study aims to evaluate whether specific profiles of risk defined using a person-oriented approach predicted physical, sexual, and psychological DA after 6 months. Methods: Eight hundred sixty-six Spanish adolescents were interviewed at two time points (50.5% male; average age = 15.04). Latent profile analysis at T1 was used to delineate profiles of individual and relational risk. Results: A three-class model best represents the data: a "normative" class (N = 768; 88%); a "highly aggressive" class characterized by acceptance of violent norms, bullying behaviors, and anger dysregulation (N = 13, 1.5%); a "jealous-conflictual" class characterized by cognitive and emotional jealousy, negative couple quality, and anger dysregulation (N = 85, 10%). Controlling for age, sex, and longitudinal stability, physical DA was predicted significantly by the "highly aggressive" profile (β =.11; p <.05), psychological DA by the "jealous-conflictual" profile (β =.16; p <.01), and sexual DA by the "jealous-conflictual" (β =.20; p <.001) and "highly aggressive" profile as a trend (β =.08; p =.071). Conclusions: Specific risk profiles differentially predict risk for physical, sexual, and psychological DA perpetration. A general aggressive pattern predicts physical DA and sexual DA weakly, whereas psychological and sexual DA are associated with a couple of risks, where the dimension of jealousy, control, and conflict characterizes the dynamic between partners. Policy Implications: Findings suggested that physical DA, and at a lower level sexual DA, should be prevented using cross-cutting strategies on general aggression. Psychological aggression is the most common manifestation of intimate partner violence. Literature demonstrates that attachment and jealousy can predict intimate partner violence. The aim of this study was to test a theoretical model in which jealousy is a mediator between attachment and psychological aggression. This is a quantitative study, with cross-sectional and explanatory design. A sample of 600 people, aged between 18 and 65 years old, residing in 13 Brazilian states, was investigated. A Sociodemographic data questionnaire, Psychological Aggression Sub-scales (CTS2), Questionnaire on the Affective Relationships (QAR), Interpersonal Jealousy Scale (IJC) and Adult Attachment Scale (AAS 2) were used. Structural equation modeling indicated that jealousy functioned as a mediator between attachment and psychological aggressions, alerting to the possibility of prevention in conjugality through early interventions. BACKGROUND: Workplace envy is a common, yet easily overlooked, phenomenon in the workplace, and it has an important impact on an organization. However, the majority of studies have focused on this topic from the perspective of the envier, and research from the perspective of the envied target is insufficient. OBJECTIVE: Building on social information processing theory, this study investigated the effects of being envied on coworker exchange and examined the influence of individual factors on this relationship. METHOD: A two-wave field survey was adopted for data collection, and 288 employees from six companies in the south of China were included. A longitudinal cross-lagged panel analysis and the Latent Moderated Structural Equations (LMS) approach were performed using Mplus 8.3. RESULTS: The findings show that being envied has a negative effect on coworker exchange and that this negative relationship is stronger when narcissism is higher or the need for affiliation is lower. CONCLUSION: This study contributes to the literature on workplace envy by providing new insights and theoretical perspectives. Envy drives different behaviors, and while we often emphasize the negative effects of envy, there are also relatively positive aspects. This study explored the "two faces" of envy or behaviors that improve oneself or degrade others. In study 1 (N =466, 45.1% males and 54.9% females; M age=18.53, SD age=2.05), we modeled the effects of envy and self-control on effort and aggression. In study 2 (N =102, 51% males and 49% females; M age=20.56, SD age=1.88), we explored the influence of envy on striving behavior and aggressive behavior using an ego depletion paradigm. The different effects of envy on different levels were doubly verified. We established structural equation models of the interactions of benign envy, malicious envy, self-control, and associated behaviors, and we found that: (1) Individuals' striving behavior was only affected by benign envy; (2) Individuals' aggressive behavior was influenced by both malicious envy and self-control. Investigations of alcohol use in relation to cyber dating abuse (CDA) remain underdeveloped relative to alcohol-related face-to-face dating abuse research. A critical step toward advancing this area of research would include examining the applicability of alcohol-related partner abuse models to CDA perpetration. Existing models of alcohol-related partner abuse suggested that alcohol and partner abuse are more likely to co-occur in the presence of aggressogenic distal traits. We propose that this model may extend to CDA perpetration. Toward this end, the present study collected cross-sectional data from college students (N = 258; 56.2% male) to investigate whether trait romantic jealousy moderated the association between alcohol problems and CDA perpetration, controlling for face-to-face dating abuse perpetration. We hypothesized that alcohol problems would positively relate to CDA perpetration among college students with high, but not low, romantic jealousy. We explored whether the interactive effect varied by sex. Results revealed a significant three-way interaction; the moderating role of romantic jealousy in the relation between alcohol problems and CDA perpetration varied by sex. Alcohol problems positively related to CDA perpetration for women with high, but not low, romantic jealousy. Alcohol problems did not relate to CDA perpetration regardless of men's level of romantic jealousy. Numerous studies consider competition and jealousy within an evolutionary framework, yet less is known about the relation between aggression vis-à-vis hypercompetitiveness (i.e. competing to win) and jealousy. We investigated the longitudinal relations between hypercompetitiveness, jealousy, and aggression and the moderating role of gender in a sample of 615 Canadian adolescents assessed annually from Grade 7 through Grade 12 using self-reports. A developmental cascade model accounting for within-time correlations, across-time stability, and cross-lag paths was used to analyze the data. Results indicated hypercompetitiveness was positively associated with aggression across several time points (Grades 7→8, Grades 8→9, and Grades 9→10) and was associated with increased jealousy in Grades 11 and 12. Indirect aggression in Grade 12 was positively associated with higher levels of jealousy in Grade 11. Few gender differences were noted. Facial width-to-height ratio (fWHR) is associated with aggressive behavior and perceived aggression. This study examined the independent effects of the horizontal and vertical components of fWHR on general aggression perception and specific aggression in romantic relationship (intimate partner violence, IPV) perception. By increasing width, the horizontal component of fWHR significantly increases the IPV perception. By reducing height, the vertical component of fWHR significantly decreases the IPV perception (Study 1). Upper and lower facial heights were reduced simultaneously in the vertical manipulation, indicating mixed effects. In Study 2, we separated the upper and lower face effects. Reducing upper face height could facilitate aggression perception. However, reducing the lower face could suppress aggression perception. The results indicated the disjunction effect of horizontal and vertical components on aggression perception.
