"Megan Heffernan's book, Making the Miscellany: Poetry, Print, and the History of the Book in Early Modern England, challenges the traditional understanding of poetry compilations in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England. Heffernan argues that these collections, often referred to as "miscellanies," were not disorganized but intentionally arranged by compilers to create connections between poems. She explores the organizational features of these compilations and their impact on the development of vernacular poetry. Through case studies of various compilations and literary works, Heffernan demonstrates the active role of compilers and their influence on poetic form. This book offers a new perspective on early modern poetry collections and the relationship between compilation and authorship." [Extracted from the article]
