The global energy crisis, which began in 2021 due to the extraordinary economic recovery after the pandemic and intensified after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has changed the conditions of energy management, paying more attention to energy efficiency. Natural gas prices have reached record levels and, consequently, so have electricity prices in some markets. Oil prices have reached their highest level since 2008. Higher energy prices have contributed to sharply increased inflation. Households are again becoming interested in buying coal as a source of heat. High energy and gas prices have pushed many families into poverty and forced some factories to cut production or even close. They have also slowed economic growth to the point where some countries are heading for a serious recession. Paradoxically, the negative effects of the energy crisis may accelerate the introduction of cleaner, sustainable, renewable energy such as wind and solar energy. The energy crisis is comparable to the oil crisis of the 1970s, when it contributed to significant advances in energy efficiency. The current crisis has highlighted the importance of investments in renewable energy resources and initiated the process of integrating regional markets, developing energy efficiency and promoting renewable energies. The aim of this article is to comprehensively explore the complex relationship between energy awareness, consumption patterns, and energy efficiency, with a focus on both individual consumers and industries, during the global energy crisis. This paper is based on a literature review, overarching policy documents, energy reports, and other secondary documents. The primary research method was the systematic literature review method, based on which the impact of the global energy crisis on energy efficiency was evaluated. This study emphasizes the diverse influences on energy awareness, ranging from economic factors to consumer preferences and environmental consciousness. The findings of the paper underscore the significant responsibility of industries in contributing to energy-saving efforts and the active role of consumers in the energy market. The responsibility of industries in contributing to energy efficiency is highlighted, with a call for a comprehensive approach that integrates energy-saving criteria into product development and corporate social responsibility. The object of the research of the article is transport system of a city. The paper reviews the necessity to assess the greenhouse emissions in the city and proposes the methods for greenhouse emissions inventory of the urban transport system. The proposed approach is aligned with guidelines for the development of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) of Mayor Covenants of European Union (EU). The methodologies outlined in the paper allow to estimate annual greenhouse emissions from transport sector. The SECAP defines transport sectors based on ownership and functioning as following: municipal transport fleet, public transport, and private and commercial transport. The paper proposes the methodology to estimate direct and indirect emissions in each of the described sector based on the information that is typicaly available to municipalities in Ukraine. The assessment is conducted on disaggregated level for different fuel types (diesel, petroleum, natural gas, biofuel, electricity, etc.) and separately for each fleet type (buses, trucks, passenger vehicles, specialized machinery). Total CO2 emissions are then estimated by multiplying the amount of fuel consumed by the emission factor for each fuel type and vehicle type. Information of fuel consumption is estimated based on annual milage and estimated based on available data and number of assumptions proposed in the paper. The proposed methodology for greenhouse emissions inventory for the transport sector allows to analyze available data, recommendations for data collection and a methodology for determining CO2 emissions from the operation of the transport system with sufficient accuracy of calculations. Based on these results, it is possible to forecast changes in energy consumption and emissions in the transport sector as a result of various interventions. For example, in Zhytomyr city the results of inventory were used to develop a set of measures, which include updating the rolling stock of electric transport; increasing the energy efficiency of the power grids of the transport system, developing cycling infrastructure. This paper investigates relative aggregate energy efficiency for a panel of 39 developing countries by econometrically estimating an energy-demand function (EDF) using the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) approach to provide relative energy efficiency scores over the period 1989 to 2008. Energy efficiency is arguably difficult to define or even conceptualise with several interpretations in the literature but here it is based on an economists' perspective of efficiency. Hence, the estimates of 'true' energy efficiency found in the paper using this approach approximate the economically efficient use of energy capturing both technical and allocative efficiency and the results confirm that energy intensity should not be considered as a de facto standard indicator of energy efficiency. While, by controlling for a range of socio-economic factors, the measurements of energy efficiency obtained by the analysis are deemed more appropriate and hence it is argued that this analysis should be undertaken to avoid potentially misleading advice to policy makers. This study contributes to the literature since it is, as far as is known, the first attempt to apply the benchmarking parametric stochastic frontier technique to econometrically estimate energy efficiency for a large panel of only developing counties around the world. Moreover, the results from such analysis are arguably particularly relevant in a world dominated by environmental concerns, especially in the aftermath of energy price increase as a result of the unrest in Ukraine. EU countries declared the strategic goal to achieve energy independence and increase energy efficiency. In this case, EU countries have provided a vast range of incentives, mechanisms, and directives to promote energy efficiency. Ukraine as a potential candidate should provide a convergent policy with EU countries to increase energy efficiency. The paper aims to estimate energy efficiency based on the revealed convergent and divergent determinants of energy policies among the EU and Ukraine. The data are compiled from the World Energy Statistics Yearbook, the European Statistical Office, the International Energy Agency, SolAbility agencies, and State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The study applies σ- i β-convergence theory to determine the convergent and divergent determinants of the country's energy efficiency. The empirical results allow concluding that Ukraine has an average level in the integrated energy efficiency index of the national economy, and the highest value of this index was in 2008. The highest values of energy efficiency were in Sweden and Denmark among EU countries. Besides, the findings confirm that the Ukrainian government should pay attention to divergent determinants (expenditure for environmental protection, pricing for energy resources, etc.) to improve the country's energy efficiency. The study was conducted in 2017-2019 at the experimental field of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of NAAS (now the Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine). Factor A studied different maturity groups of corn hybrids selected by the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the NAAS:Stepovyi, Skadovskyi, Inhulskyi, Chonhar, Arabat. Factor B - protection system: control, water treatment; biological; chemical; integrated. The highest conditionally net profit and profitability of hybrids of all FAO groups was observed under the integrated method of plant protection. The maximum value of conditional net profit is 2.26 and 3.26 thousand euro ha-1 was observed in mid-late hybrids Chonhar (FAO 420) and Arabat (FAO 430) under integrated plant protection systems. The mid-late Arabat hybrid (FAO 430) showed the maximum level of profitability of 117-141%. It is most economically profitable to grow mid-late hybrids Chonhar (FAO 420) and Arabat (FAO 430) under systems of integrated plant protection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research is devoted to a comprehensive approach to the study of soybean productivity depending on the different tillage technologies and plants' spraying of salicylic acid of climate change in Southen Ukraine. The proposed measures will save water resources up to 30% through the use of portable moisture meters to control soil moisture and the no-till technology; increase the soybean yield by up to 14% by spraying plants of salicylic acid. It was determined that the density of soybean plants during the growing season decreased on variants with traditional technologies in comparison with no-till the deviation makes almost 6%. The soybean water consumption coefficient in the experiment varied significantly in the range from 1,710 to 2,330 m3 /t. Soybean plants used water reserves most rationally in variants where traditional technologies were used. The average increase in yield according to the experiment under traditional technologies was 5.4%, with no-till was 20.3%. In terms of economic and bioenergy efficiency, no-till does not have significant advantages over traditional technologies. Reduction of costs in the introduction of no-till for energy consumption of machinery, fuel, electricity is fully offset by the growth of indirect energy costs, in particular, the cost of herbicides, due to high weed infestation of uncultivated crops. The paper studies the problem of assessing the vehicle energy efficiency on the streets of urban road network. As a result of morphological analysis of the system "Vehicle—Traffic flow—Road—Traffic Environment" 18 significant morphological attributes of its functional elements, that affect the energy efficiency of vehicles, were identified. Each attribute is characterized by 3–6 implementation variants, which are evaluated by the relevant quantitative or qualitative parameters. The energy efficiency of vehicles is determined by the criteria of their energy consumption considering the vehicle category, type of energy unit, mode of vehicle movement and adjustment factors—road, climatic and others. The input parameters values of the system in the process of traffic flow on the linear fragments of streets and road networks of the cities of Ukraine and Poland were measured. The set of independent system parameters is determined by applying the Farrar-Glober method based on statistical estimates. The specified set is the basis of the studied system and is formed of 10 independent input parameters. The presence in the basis of parameters that correspond to the morphological features of all four functional elements, confirmed the importance of these elements of the system. The mathematical dependence of the impact of vehicle characteristics, traffic flow, road and environment on vehicle energy efficiency is built. The standard deviation of the model values from the tabular ones equals σ ´ = 0.0091 . Relative standard deviation equals S ´ r = 1.5 % . In the current economic situation in Ukraine, the operation of heat supply systems occurs at a reduced temperature of circuit water. The increased temperature graph of 95/70 °C due to the high cost of fuel is impractical. The experience of such countries as Denmark, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Holland with developed centralized heat supply indicates the need for the first-class equipment of an individual heating point (IHP) of a building with an automatic control system, and then the transition to technology with a reduced temperature graph is carried out. Therefore, the modernization of heat supply systems in Ukraine aimed at the use of a reduced temperature graph will require a transition to closed independent heating systems, to qualitative and quantitative regulation and to automation of consumer IHP systems. A lot of district heating systems in Poland also require modernization to meet the requirements of the European Directive EED 2018/2002. This paper proposes methodological approaches to assessing the impact of renewable energy and energy efficiency development on emerging economies' energy security. It is suggested to supplement the current methodology for assessing energy security with the decoupling index of the renewable energy financial burden on the state budget, the energy efficiency decoupling index, the households' energy poverty indicator, the index of capacity development for balancing electricity generation volumes, and the energy fluctuations indicator. These indices provide a comprehensive assessment of energy security under the latest challenges. Thus, the COVID-19 pandemic in the Ukrainian energy sector led to the "green and coal paradox", when the government decided to keep green electricity generation but limit nuclear generation. It required increased flexible capacities (thermal generation) and led to a rise in electricity prices and environmental pollution. Forecasting energy fluctuations with Butterworth filters allows minimizing the risks of maximum peak loads on the grid and timely prevention of emergencies. The energy fluctuations within the 20% range guarantee energy security and optimal energy companies' operation. It is proposed to smooth out energy consumption fluctuations through green energy development, smart grids formation, energy efficiency improvements, and energy capacities balancing to ensure energy and economic sustainability.
