Carbon monoxide (CO) has been recognized as a crucial gasotransmitter mainly produced by heme oxygenase (HO)-catalyzed heme degradation in plant. Recent studies have shown that CO plays an important role in regulating growth and development of plant, as well as and responding to a variety of abiotic stresses. Meanwhile, many studies have reported on CO working in combination with other signal molecules to mitigate abiotic stress. Here, we presented a comprehensive overview of recent developments in which CO reduces plant damage caused by abiotic stresses. The regulation of antioxidant system, photosynthetic system, ion balance and transport are the main mechanisms of CO-alleviated abiotic stress. We also proposed and discussed the relationship between CO and other signal molecules, including nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), hydrogen gas (H 2), abscisic acid (ABA), indole 3-acetic acid (IAA), gibberellin (GA), cytokine (CTK), salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) and calcium ion (Ca2+). Furthermore, the important role of HO genes in alleviating abiotic stress was also discussed. Macrophages play crucial roles in the tumor microenvironment (TME), exerting diverse functions ranging from promoting tumor growth and metastasis to orchestrating anti-tumor immune responses. Their plasticity allows them to adopt distinct activation states, often called M1-like (pro-inflammatory) and M2-like (anti-inflammatory or pro-tumoral), significantly influencing tumor progression and response to therapy. Harnessing the potential of macrophages in cancer immunotherapy has emerged as a promising strategy, with increasing interest in targeting these cells directly or modulating their functions within the TME. This review explores the intricate interplay between macrophages, the TME, and immunotherapeutic approaches. We discuss the dynamic phenotypic and functional heterogeneity of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), their impact on disease progression, and the mechanisms underlying their response to immunotherapy. Furthermore, we highlight recent advancements in macrophage-based immunotherapeutic strategies, including macrophage-targeting agents, adoptive cell transfer, and engineering approaches. Understanding the complex crosstalk between macrophages and the TME is essential for developing effective immunotherapeutic interventions that exploit the immunomodulatory functions of macrophages to enhance anti-tumor immunity and improve clinical outcomes for cancer patients. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) are crucial for plant growth and development via mediating post-transcriptional gene silencing. In wild-type Arabidopsis , DICER-LIKE 2 (DCL2)-dependent 22-nt siRNAs are rare, whereas DCL1 and DCL4-dependent 21-nt miRNAs and siRNAs are highly abundant. DCL4 naturally inhibits DCL2 in producing abundant 22-nt siRNAs from endogenous transcripts, but whether DCL1 suppresses endogenous 22-nt siRNA production and the extent of repression are still unknown. Here, we report that DCL1 and DCL2 cleaved both miRNA precursors and coding transcript-derived double-stranded RNAs. In a dcl1 dcl4 double mutant, massive 22-nt siRNAs were produced from endogenous protein-coding genes (genic siRNAs). Compared with wild-type, the 22-nt genic siRNAs derived from the Nitrate Reductase 1 (NIA1), NIA2 , DIACYLGLYCEROL ACYLTRANSFERASES 3 (DGAT3), SUPPRESSOR OF MAX2 1-LIKE 5 (SMXL5), and SMXL4 in dcl1 dcl4 increased up to 95%. Our analysis further indicated that the 22-nt genic siRNAs in dcl1 dcl4 were mainly loaded into ARGONAUTE 1 (AGO1) or AGO2. Carbon material modification and defect engineering are indispensable for bolstering the photocatalytic effectiveness of bismuth halide oxide (BiOX). In this study, a novel porous and defect-rich Ar-CB-2 photocatalyst was synthesized for emerging pollutants degradation. Leveraging the interfacial coupling effect of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), we expanded the absorption spectrum of BiOI nanosheets and significantly suppressed the recombination of charge carriers. Introducing defects via Argon (Ar) plasma-etching further bolstered the adsorption efficacy and electron transfer properties of photocatalyst. In comparison to the pristine BiOI and CB-2, the Ar-CB-2 photocatalyst demonstrated superior photodegradation efficiency, with the first-order reaction rates for the photodegradation of tetracycline (TC) and bisphenol A (BPA) increasing by 2.83 and 4.53 times, respectively. Further probe experiments revealed that the steady-state concentrations of ·O 2 − and 1O 2 in the Ar-CB-2/light system were enhanced by a factor of 1.67 and 1.28 compared to CB-2/light system. This result confirmed that the porous and defect-rich structure of Ar-CB-2 inhibited electron-hole recombination and boosted photocatalyst-oxygen interaction, swiftly transforming O 2 into active oxygen species, thus accelerating their production. Furthermore, the possible degradation pathways for TC and BPA in the Ar-CB-2/light system were predicted. Overall, these findings offered a groundbreaking approach to the development of highly effective photocatalysts, capable of swiftly breaking down emerging pollutants. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract (ELE) on the common occurrence of liver steatosis, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, disturbance of gut microbiota, and disease susceptibility in high-fat diet-fed channel catfish. Channel catfish fed three diets, including a high-fat diet (11% crude fat) and ELE-supplemented diets containing 1‰ or 2‰ ELE for 4 weeks. The results showed the contents of liver triacylglycerol of 1‰ and 2‰ ELE groups were reduced, and ELE treatments decreased the expression of lipogenesis related genes (srebp-1c, pparγ, and acc-1), and increased the expression of lipolysis related genes (pparα). In addition, the supplementation of ELE improved the inflammatory response of the liver and intestine. ELE could improve the destruction of intestinal morphology structure and increase the expression level of hif-1a and tight junction proteins (Occludin, Claudin2, Claudin15). 2‰ ELE significantly enhanced the antioxidant capacity of intestine by increasing the activity of SOD enzyme. Moreover, the supplement of ELE significantly increased the abundance of Cetobacterium and Romboutsia (p < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the expression of immune factor nf-κb had a significant decrease, and il-1β showed a tendency to decrease in the ELE supplement groups after pathogenic bacteria challenge. Structural, Microstructure and RL curves of Single and Double Layers Absorbers of D and D/M samples. [Display omitted] Herein, two distinct nanocomposites of CaTiO 3 micro-cubes and polygonal SrFe 12 O 19 , both decorated with NiO nanoparticles, were successfully synthesized using hydrothermal method. The physico-chemical features of as-prepared samples were evaluated via XRD, FTIR, UV–vis, BET, XPS, FESEM and EDS analysis. Microwave attenuation features of as-prepared single layer absorbers were determined by VNA analysis in 2–18 GHz. Simulation confirmation was checked by preparing a bi-layer samples and evaluating it using VNA analysis after finding the appropriate thickness of each layer. The reflection loss from each single layer samples containing 20 wt% of each CaTiO 3 /NiO and SrFe 12 O 19 /NiO nanocomposites were −16 dB and −35 dB at 6.3 GHz with 2.5 mm matching thickness respectively. However, the RL was −34 dB at 10 GHz frequency with 2 mm thickness in a bilayer absorber with SrFe 12 O 19 /NiO nanocomposite layer put as absorbing layer with 1 mm thickness and CaTiO 3 /NiO positioned as matching layer with 1 mm thickness. Furthermore, at the X-band frequency, approximately entire band absorption is obtained. The findings demonstrate that adjusting the order and thickness of the layers in a bilayer absorber may readily improve microwave absorption performance. By comparing the results of simulation with real prepared bilayer absorbers, we found that with a 2 mm overall thickness, the bi-layer absorbers display accurate RL values, but not the matching frequency monitored in the simulation process. This study investigates the effects of limited enzymatic hydrolysis on the structural and functional characteristics, as well as nutritional value of walnut protein (WP). WP was hydrolyzed using papain to obtain varying degrees of hydrolysis (DHs) at 6, 8.33, 10 and 11.4%. The results indicate significant changes in the structural properties of WP due to papain hydrolysis. These changes primarily included a decrease in molecular weight, increased flexibility in secondary structure, reduced intrinsic fluorescence intensity, and a rise in H 0 correlating with the DH increase. Accordingly, hydrolyzed WP displayed better functional properties and higher nutritional value. Notably, WP with a DH of 11.4% exhibited superior emulsification properties and the highest antioxidant abilities. Abstract Species identification and discrimination is the basis of biodiversity research. In general, it is considered that numerous nucleotide variations (e.g., whole chloroplast genomes) can identify species with higher resolution than a few loci, e.g., partial chloroplast or nuclear gene fragments. In this study, we tested this hypothesis by sampling population genetics samples of the endangered herb genus Notopterygium. We sequenced the complete plastomes, five nuclear gene regions, three chloroplast DNA fragments, and a nuclear internal transcribed spacer (nr ITS) region for 18 populations sampled throughout most of the geographic ranges of all six Notopterygium species. Species identification analysis showed that four DNA barcodes (matK , rbcL , trnS-trnG , and nr ITS) and/or combinations of these markers achieved Notopterygium species discrimination at higher resolution than the general plastomes and nuclear gene sequences. In particular, nr ITS had the highest discriminatory power among all of the individual markers. Molecular data sets and morphological evidence indicated that all six Notopterygium species could be reclassified unambiguously to four putative species clades. N. oviforme and N. franchetii had the closest relationship. Molecular dating showed that the origin and divergence of Notopterygium species was significantly associated with geological and climatic fluctuations during the middle of the Pliocene. In conclusion, our results suggest that a few nucleotide variations can achieve species discrimination with higher resolution than numerous plastomes and general nuclear gene fragments when discerning related Notopterygium species. Abstract It is well known that colon cancer stemness and invasiveness are the main reasons for tumor recurrence and metastasis. MicroRNAs dysregulation can disrupt the balance of cell signaling and growth processes, resulting in cancer proliferation, invasion and metastasis, chemoresistance and so on. In this study, we used colon cancer cell lines HCT-116 and SW-480 to investigate the effects of miR-3120-5p on stemness and invasiveness of colon cancer. We found that the population of CD133 + and Lgr5+ stem cells in both cell lines expressed miR-3120-5p highly, and introducing miR-3120-5p into both cell lines increased the population of cancer stem cells, as measured by flow cytometry, qRT-PCR and sphere formation assays. Transwell assay, Gelatin zymography assay and Western blot assays further revealed that miR-3120-5p promotes colon cancer cells invasive ability. By the target prediction algorithm TargetScan, we found Axin2 is a potential target for miR-3120-5p, and luciferase reporter assay demonstrated that miR-3120-5p reduces Axin2 expression. Transfection of siRNA against Axin2 into colon cancer cells promoted the stemness and invasion of colon cancer cells. Furthermore, Axin2 overexpression partially reversed the promotion of stemness and invasiveness caused by miR-3120-5p in colon cancer cells. Together, all the results demonstrated miR-3120-5p promotes stemness and invasiveness of colon cancer cells through direct targeting of Axin2. They suggest that antago-miR-3120-5p plays important roles on treatment strategy for colon cancer. Dexamethasone (Dex) induces direct cytotoxicity to cultured osteoblasts. The benzimidazole derivative compound 991 (“C991”) is a novel and highly-efficient AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activator. Here, in both MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells and primary murine osteoblasts, treatment with C991 activated AMPK signaling, and significantly attenuated Dex-induced apoptotic and non-apoptotic cell death. AMPKα1 knockdown (by shRNA), complete knockout (by CRISPR/Cas9 method) or dominant negative mutation (T172A) not only blocked C991-mediated AMPK activation, but also abolished its pro-survival effect against Dex in osteoblasts. Further studies showed that C991 boosted nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) activity and induced mRNA expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-regulated genes ( heme oxygenase-1 and NADPH quinone oxidoreductase 1 ). Additionally, C991 alleviated Dex-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in osteoblasts. This study investigates the anti-angiogenic effect of 3β, 12β, 20(S)-trihydroxy dammarane-3- O -β- d -glucopyranosyl(1–2)-β- d -glucopyranoside(HRG), a new chemical compound obtained by structure modification on Ginseng saponins Rg3, associated with the regulation of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) and its upstream signal-regulated molecule of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor(b-FGF) in vitro, which plays an critical role in angiogenesis during the process of carcinoma. In our study, to investigate the anti-angiogenesis effect of HRG in HUVECs, we utilized cell proliferation assay, tube formation assay, wound-healing assay, Semi-quantitative reverse transcription PCR, and Western blot assay. Our results demonstrated that HRG plays a major role in the regulation of proliferation, migration and tube formation of HUVECs by suppressing the expression of VEGF and b-FGF in both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. In addition, the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9, which were related to the ECM degradation, were down-regulated after administration of HRG as well. Microplastics (MPs) in natural environments undergo complex aging processes, changing their interactions with coexisting antibiotics, and posing unpredictable ecological risks. However, the joint toxicity of aged MPs (aMPs) and antibiotics to bacteria, especially at the molecular level, is unclear. In this study, non-thermal plasma technology was used to simultaneously simulate various radical oxidation and physical reactions that occur naturally in the environment, breaking the limitation of simple aging process in laboratory aging technologies. After aging, we investigated the altered properties of aMPs, their interactions with ciprofloxacin (CIP), and the molecular responses of E. coli exposed to pristine MPs (13.5 mg/L), aMPs (13.5 mg/L), and CIP (2 μg/L) individually or simultaneously. aMPs bound far more CIP to their surfaces than pristine MPs, especially in freshwater ecosystems. Notably, the growth of E. coli exposed to aMPs alone was inhibited, whereas pristine MPs exposure didn't affect the growth of E. coli. Moreover, the most differentially expressed genes in E. coli were induced by the coexposure of aMPs and CIP. Although E. coli depended on chemotaxis to improve its flagellar rotation and escaped the stress of pollutants, the coexposure of aMPs and CIP still caused cell membrane damage, oxidative stress, obstruction of DNA replication, and osmotic imbalance in E. coli. This study filled the knowledge gap between the toxicity of aMPs and pristine MPs coexisting with antibiotics at the transcription level, helping in the accurate assessment of the potential risks of MPs to the environment. The flow around a stationary circular cylinder modified by two synthetic jets positioned at the mean separation points is numerically studied. The Reynolds number based on the free-stream velocity and the circular cylinder diameter is Re=500. The focus is to present a novel way to suppress the lift fluctuations by changing the vortex shedding mode, and thus particular attention is paid to the interactions between the synthetic jets and wake shear layers and the resulting vortex dynamics. The overall influences of both momentum coefficient and excitation frequency are discussed. In some simulated cases, the vortex lock-on phenomenon is discovered, which causes the typical Kàrmàn type vortex shedding to be converted into the symmetric shedding modes, leading to the complete suppression of lift fluctuations. In other cases, the asymmetric shedding mode still dominates the wake evolution. Detailed vortical evolution for each typical wake pattern is analyzed to reveal the control mechanism. Additionally, the control effectiveness is evaluated, indicating that the present control strategy contributes an effective way to suppress the lift fluctuations and reduce the mean drag. Abstract: We consider the scattering of a time-harmonic electromagnetic wave by a perfectly and imperfectly conducting infinite cylinder at oblique incidence respectively. We assume that the cylinder is embedded in a homogeneous chiral medium and the cylinder is parallel to the z axis. Since the x components and y components of electric field and magnetic field can be expressed in terms of their z components, we can derive from Maxwell's equations and corresponding boundary conditions that the scattering problem is modeled as a boundary value problem for the z components of electric field and magnetic field. Abstract: In the present study, we aimed to investigate the immunosuppressive activity of vaticaffinol, a resveratrol tetramer isolated from Vatica mangachapoi, on T lymphocytes both in vitro and in vivo, and further explored its potential molecular mechanism. Resveratrol had a wide spectrum of healthy beneficial effects with multiple targets. Interestingly, its tetramer, vaticaffinol, exerted more intensive immunosuppressive activity than resveratrol. Vaticaffinol significantly inhibited T cells proliferation activated by concanavalin A (Con A) or anti-CD3 plus anti-CD28 in a dose- and time-dependent manner. It also induced Con A-activated T cells undergoing apoptosis through mitochondrial pathway. Moreover, this compound prevented cells from entering S phase and G2/M phase during T cells activation. In addition, vaticaffinol inhibited ERK and AKT signaling pathways in Con A-activated T cells. Furthermore, vaticaffinol significantly ameliorated ear swelling in a mouse model of picryl chloride-induced ear contact dermatitis in vivo. In most of the aforementioned experiments, however, resveratrol had only slight effects on the inhibition of T lymphocytes compared with vaticaffinol. Taken together, our findings suggest that vaticaffinol exerts more preferable immunosuppressive activity than its precursor resveratrol both in vitro and in vivo by affecting multiple targets against activated T cells. Flask-shaped invaginations of the cardiomyocyte sarcolemma called caveolae require the structural protein caveolin-3 (Cav-3) and host a variety of ion channels, transporters, and signaling molecules. Reduced Cav-3 expression has been reported in models of heart failure, and variants in CAV3 have been associated with the inherited long-QT arrhythmia syndrome. Yet, it remains unclear whether alterations in Cav-3 levels alone are sufficient to drive aberrant repolarization and increased arrhythmia risk. To determine the impact of cardiac-specific Cav-3 ablation on the electrophysiological properties of the adult mouse heart. Cardiac-specific, inducible Cav3 homozygous knockout (Cav-3KO) mice demonstrated a marked reduction in Cav-3 expression by Western blot and loss of caveolae by electron microscopy. However, there was no change in macroscopic cardiac structure or contractile function. The QT c interval was increased in Cav-3KO mice, and there was an increased propensity for ventricular arrhythmias. Ventricular myocytes isolated from Cav-3KO mice exhibited a prolonged action potential duration (APD) that was due to reductions in outward potassium currents (I to , I ss) and changes in inward currents including slowed inactivation of I Ca,L and increased I Na,L. Mathematical modeling demonstrated that the changes in the studied ionic currents were adequate to explain the prolongation of the mouse ventricular action potential. Results from human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes showed that shRNA knockdown of Cav-3 similarly prolonged APD. We demonstrate that Cav-3 and caveolae regulate cardiac repolarization and arrhythmia risk via the integrated modulation of multiple ionic currents. Abstract: Poly(sulfosalicylic acid) and single-stranded DNA composite (PSSA–ssDNA)-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was prepared by electropolymerization and then successfully used to simultaneously determine adenine (A), guanine (G), and thymine (T). The characterization of electrochemically synthesized PSSA–ssDNA film was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The modified electrode exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic behavior and good stability for the simultaneous determination of A, G, and T in 0.1M phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH 7.0). Well-separated voltammetric peaks were obtained among A, G, and T presented in the analyte mixture. Under the optimal conditions, the peak currents for A, G, and T increased linearly with the increase of analyte mixture concentration in the ranges of 6.5×10−8 to 1.1×10−6, 6.5×10−8 to 1.1×10−6, and 4.1×10−6 to 2.7×10−5 M, respectively. Background: Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is unavoidable in renal transplantation, and represents an additional risk factor for the late renal allograft failure. Our study focused on the effects of ligustrazine on oxidative stress, apoptosis, neutrophils recruitment, the expression of proinflammatory mediators and adhesion molecules caused by renal I/R injury. Materials and Methods: Renal warm I/R was induced in male C57BL/6 mice by clamping the left renal artery and vein non-traumatically. Group I was sham-operated animals; group II, nontreated animals; and group III, ligustrazine-treated animals (80mg/kg, i.p. 30min before I/R). Mice were sacrificed 4 and 24h post reperfusion. The effects of ligustrazine on oxidative stress, neutrophils recruitment, proinflammatory mediators, and adhesion molecules caused by renal I/R injury were assayed. Results: Ligustrazine pretreatment attenuated dramatically the injuries in mice kidneys caused by warm I/R (histological scores of untreated versus treated, 4.2±0.4 versus 0.9±0.3; P <0.01). Administration of ligustrazine significantly reduced myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity by 38.6% and decreased malondialdehye (MDA) level by 19.2%, while superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity increased by 39.6% (P <0.01), suggesting an effective reduction of oxidative stress following ligustrazine treatment. Moreover, ligustrazine also inhibited cell apoptosis, abrogated neutrophils recruitment, and suppressed the over expression of TNF-α and ICAM-1. Conclusions: In conclusion, ligustrazine protects murine kidney from warm ischemia/reperfusion injury, probably via reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting cell apoptosis, decreasing neutrophils infiltration, and suppressing the overexpression of TNF-α and ICAM-1 levels. Abstract: The expression of N-myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (NDRG2) is present in normal tissues but low or undetectable in various cancers and thus poses a potential tumor suppressor gene. However, the expression of NDRG2 in colorectal tissues remains unknown. Here, our results showed that NDRG2 was down-regulated in colorectal cancer compared to benign colorectal tissues by using immunohistochemical staining and semi-quantitative RT-PCR analyses. Bisulfite sequencing analysis showed that the reduced NDRG2 expression was accompanied by de novo DNA methylation at the NDRG2 promoter. We also found that microRNA-650 (miR-650) targets a homologous DNA region in the promoter region of the NDRG2 gene and represses its expression at the transcriptional level. Reporter assay with 3′untranslated region of NDRG2 cloned downstream of the luciferase gene showed reduced luciferase activity in the presence of miR-650, providing strong evidence that miR-650 is a direct regulator of NDRG2. In conclusion, these results suggest that NDRG2 expression is regulated by promoter methylation and miR-650 in human colorectal cancer cells, and endogenous small noncoding RNA induced control of transcription may be a potential system for expressional regulation in human colorectal cancer cells. Abstract: A novel actuator signal achieved by changing the ratio of the suction duty cycle to the blowing duty cycle is adopted to enhance the control effect of the synthetic jet for the flow around a circular cylinder. The suction duty cycle factor k defined as the ratio between the time duration of the suction cycle and the blowing cycle and the equivalent momentum coefficient C μ are introduced as the determining parameters. The synthetic jet is positioned at the rear stagnation point in order to introduce symmetric perturbations upon the flow field. The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique is applied for the analysis of the spanwise vorticity field. Increasing the suction duty cycle factor, the momentum coefficient is enhanced, and thus a stronger and larger scale synthetic jet vortex pair with a higher convection velocity is generated. The synthetic jet vortex pair interacts with the spanwise vorticity shear layers behind both sides of the cylinder, resulting in the variations of the wake vortex shedding modes at Re=950: for k=0.25, C μ =0.148, vortex synchronization at the subharmonic excitation frequency with antisymmetric shedding mode; for 0.50≤k≤1.00, 0.213≤C μ ≤0.378, vortex synchronization at the excitation frequency with the symmetric or antisymmetric shedding modes; for 2.00≤k≤4.00, 0.850≤C μ ≤2.362, vortex synchronization at the excitation frequency with symmetric shedding mode. Hence, the control effect of the synthetic jet upon the wake vortex of a circular cylinder can be enhanced by increasing the suction duty cycle factor so as to increase the momentum coefficient. Abstract: A new coordination polymer formulated as [C8H10CdO7] n ·4H2O has been prepared via a hydrothermal procedure by using 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic (p-BDC) and CdII salt as starting materials. The structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and the result shows that the complex crystallizes in orthorhombic system, space group Pcca, with M r=402.62, a=7.293(2)Å, b=9.980(3)Å, c=19.889(6)Å, V=1447.6(8)Å3, Z=4, D c=1.847g/cm3, F(000)=808, μ(MoKα)=1.559mm−1, R=0.0478, wR=0.1150, GOF=1.199. It displays a neutral layered framework along ab plane constructed by hydrogen-bonding interaction through infinite zigzag chains. Its thermal decomposition and solid-state transformation course between 30 and 550°C was recorded by TG curve and XRD pattern, respectively. Interestingly, it is found that at higher temperature the crystal material was converted to uniform CdO nanowires, suggesting an effective and reasonable complex-precursor procedure for preparing one-dimensional crystalline nanomaterials. Image, graphical abstract Golden-angle single-shot PROPLLER (GA-SS-PROP) is proposed to accelerate the PROPELLER acquisition for distortion-free diffusion-weighted (DW) imaging. Acceleration is achieved by acquiring one-shot per b-value and several b-values can be acquired along a diffusion direction, where the DW signal follows a bi-exponential decay (i.e. IVIM). Sparse reconstruction is used to reconstruct full resolution DW images. Consequently, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map and IVIM maps (i.e., perfusion fraction (f) and the perfusion-free diffusion coefficient (D)) are obtained simultaneously. The performance of GA-SS-PROP was demonstrated with simulation and human experiments. A realistic numerical phantom of high-quality diffusion images of the brain was developed. The error of the reconstructed DW images and quantitative maps were compared to the ground truth. The pulse sequence was developed to acquire human brain data. For comparison, fully sampled PROPELLER and conventional single-shot echo planar imaging (SS-EPI) acquisitions were performed. GA-SS-PROP was 5 times faster than conventional PROPELLER acquisition with comparable image quality. The simulation demonstrated that sparse reconstruction is effective in restoring contrast and resolution. The human experiments demonstrated that GA-SS-PROP achieved superior image fidelity compared to SS-EPI for the same acquisition time and same in-plane resolution (1 × 1 mm2). GA-SS-PROP offers fast, high-resolution and distortion-free DW images. The generated quantitative maps (f, D and ADC) can provide valuable information on tissue perfusion and diffusion properties simultaneously, which are desirable in many applications, especially in oncology. Antibiotic contamination in drinking water sources has been increasingly prominent in recent years. The water quality in the Chongqing area is not only essential for the local people but also is crucial for the downstream of Yangzi River. To understand the level of antibiotic contamination in the large-scale drinking water sources, this study measured antibiotic residues in nine large-scale drinking water sources (five urban drinking water sources and four township drinking water sources) in Chongqing area of the Yangtze River. Results demonstrated that eight antibiotics of three categories in total were detected, including sulfonamide metformin (SMX), sulfonamide metformin (SMZ), erythromycin (ERM), Roxithromycin (ROM), Tylosin (TYL), Lincomycin (LIN), Chloramphenicol (CAP), and Florfenicol (FF). The mass concentration of antibiotic residues in five urban drinking water sources ranged from 13.9 to 76.6 ng/L, with an average of 46.4 ng/L, and that in four township drinking water sources ranged from 20.6 to 188.1 ng/L, with an average of 88.45 ng/L. The mass concentrations of antibiotic residues in Chongqing area were much lower than those in other cities. Antibiotics posed the maximum risk with a value of 0.005 for 0–3 months of the infant. In this study, the dynamics and flow fields of two parallel inverted flags are investigated using particle image velocimetry technology. The separation distance between two flags is less than two times the length of the flag, and the length ratio of these two flags is considered in the investigation. The results show that for the dynamic behaviours of two identical flags with a larger separation distance, the anti-phase and in-phase modes occur successively in the periodic oscillation as the flow velocity increases. The anti-phase and in-phase oscillations occur according to the formation position of the low-pressure and recirculation areas at different flow velocities. Moreover, a novel coupled flapping mode is observed at smaller separation distances: the contact anti-phase flapping mode, in which one flag oscillates with a large symmetric amplitude, and the other flag oscillates with a single-side large amplitude. As the separation distance further decreases, the in-phase mode appears for a larger range of flow velocity values, to avoid contact for the largest possible amplitude oscillation. Finally, as the length ratio decreases to 0.75, the oscillation frequency of the shorter flag becomes twice that of the longer flag, causing the in-phase and anti-phase oscillations to occur simultaneously in one cycle (i.e., the multi-phase flapping state). Interestingly, the two flags oscillate out of phase in the flapping apart process to avoid contact at a higher flow velocity. In general, the lower amplitude of the longer flag and two contact flags relative to that of an isolated flag clearly indicates the importance of two equal-length and non-contact flags for energy harvesting. Dissolved black carbon (DBC), widely distributed in the aquatic environments, can accelerate sunlight-driven photo-transformation of micropollutants, however the photosensitization mechanisms are not clear. Herein, the DBC was extracted from bamboo biochar and fractionated by molecular weight (i.e. <10 k, <3 k, and <1 k Da). The effects of DBC on chlortetracycline (CTC) photolysis behaviors, and the role of chemical composition (i.e., molecular weight and chemical structure) in DBC-mediated photo-transformation were investigated. The results showed that DBC could accelerate CTC photodegradation significantly. At low DBC concentrations (<6.0 mg C/L), the photodegradation rate constant of CTC increased from 0.0299 to 0.0416 min−1 with the increasing DBC concentration. Via quenching experiment, the triplet excited-state of DBC was identified as the dominant reactive intermediate with >90% contribution to total CTC photodegradation. In addition, it was found that the photosensitive efficiency of DBC increased as the molecular weight decreased, and the stronger photosensitization ability exhibited in DBC with low-molecular weight was potentially attributed to its higher content of carbonyl compounds. The observed photosensitive efficiency of DBC sharply decreased after reduction by NaBH 4 , further confirming the key role of carbonyl compounds in the photosensitization process. [Display omitted] Layered double hydroxide (LDH) has been attracted widespread attention in supercapacitor due to their unique layered structure and associated advantages. However, the inherent limitations of low electrical conductivity and reaction kinetics rate of LDH restrict its widespread application. Various modification techniques, such as heterojunction formation, phosphorization and introduction of phosphorus vacancies, are employed to modify LDH with the goal of improving the electrochemical performance. Preparation of composite materials using MoB MBene as conductive template and phosphorization are the effective ways for enhancing the electrical conductivity of electrode materials. MoB MBene is prepared using a modified method that combines NaOH etching and a high-temperature hydrothermal process. The presence of phosphorus vacancy is beneficial for enhancing the kinetics rate during electrode reactions. Through the synergistic effect of various modification methods, MP2 demonstrates an optimal electrochemical performance with a superior specific capacitance of 1731.19F/g (238.28 mAh g−1) at 1 A/g. It also demonstrates an impressive rate capacity of 81.28 % at 10 A/g and maintains a satisfactory capacitance retention of 88.14 % after 5000 cycles. In addition, a fabricated MP2//AC ASC device achieves an impressive energy density of 39.91 Wh kg−1 at the power density of 948.25 W kg−1 and demonstrates satisfactory cycling stability of 78.76 % after 5000 cycles. This work presents a comprehensive framework for analyzing the impact of material structure, components, and crystal phases on energy storage performance. In this work, the core-shell structured Ni(OH) 2 /Ni(PO 3) 2 (NNP) hybrid composite grown in situ on Ni foam was synthesized by a one-step electrodeposition. The as-obtained NNP nanosheets was used as positive electrode to assemble asymmetric supercapacitor, which exhibited high energy density of 67 Wh kg−1 at power density of 775 W kg−1 and long cycle life in 2 M KOH electrolyte. • The core-shell structured NNP electrode is prepared by one-step deposition method. • The synergy effect of core-shell structure achieves remark electrochemical performances. • The as-assembled NNP//rGO ASC exhibits a high energy density and long cycle life. Metal metaphosphates, particularly those with core-shell structure, have showed extraordinary potential in energy storage field due to their superior chemical and physical properties. However, the core-shell metal metaphosphates with high energy density in supercapacitor application is rarely reported. Here, the core-shell structured Ni(OH) 2 /Ni(PO 3) 2 (NNP) hybrid electrode were prepared by one-step electrodeposition, which exhibits a superior specific capacitance of 1477 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1. Furthermore, an aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) based on NNP hybrid composite as cathode and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as anode is assembled successfully to deliver a prominent energy density of 67 Wh kg−1 at 775 W kg−1 and splendid stability with capacitance retention of 81% after 8000 cycles. The outstanding electrochemical capabilities are attributed to the porous nanoflake and hierarchical core-shell structure of NNP hybrid composite, which can accelerate ion diffusion and charge transfer in redox reaction. Resistance to the acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase)- and acetolactate synthase (ALS)- inhibiting herbicides in shortawn foxtail ( Alopecurus aequalis ) has been reported in wheat fields of eastern China. To better understand the distribution of the resistant populations and the occurrence of the target-site mutations, 74 populations collected from Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong province were surveyed, and the ACCase and ALS gene fragments, encompassing all the documented mutant codon positions, were amplified and sequenced. Plants from 37 and 34 populations survived fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and mesosulfuron-methyl treatment at 62.1 g a.i. ha −1 and 9 g a.i. ha −1 respectively, with different survival rates. Twenty-seven populations exhibited multiple resistance to fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and mesosulfuron-methyl. Whole-plant dose-response experiments showed that the resistance index ranged from 6.2 to 167.8 for fenoxaprop-P-ethyl, and from 7.8 to 139.5 for mesosulfuron-methyl. Four ACCase (I1781L, I2041N, I2041T and D2078G) and four ALS (P197R, P197S, P197T and W574 L) resistance mutations were detected respectively. Individuals containing two amino acid substitutions were also found. D2078G and W574 L were predominant ACCase and ALS gene mutations respectively. This study has shown that fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and mesosulfuron-methyl resistance was prevalent in A. aequalis in eastern China, and target site mutations in the ACCase and ALS gene were one of the most common mechanisms. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a group of non-protein-coding RNAs generated from back splicing. Emerging evidence has demonstrated its vital regulation on angiogenesis. However, the underlying mechanism responsible for circRNAs effects on vascular endothelial cells is still unclear. In the present study, we screened the expression profiles and investigated the physiological role of circRNAs in hypoxia-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Using circRNA microarray analysis, we identified 36 circRNAs that were significantly dysregulated including 14 down-regulated circRNAs and 22 up-regulated with 2-fold change (P < 0.05). From the over-expressed circRNAs, hsa_circ_0010729 was selected as candidate circRNA and which was validated to be significantly up-regulated using RT-PCR. In loss-of-function experiments of HUVECs, hsa_circ_0010729 knockdown suppressed the proliferation and migration ability and enhanced apoptosis. Bioinformatic prediction and luciferase assay revealed that hsa_circ_0010729 and hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) were targeted by miR-186. Validation experiments verified that hsa_circ_0010729 was co-expressed with HIF-1α, being negatively correlated with miR-186. Moreover, rescue experiments demonstrated that miR-186 inhibitor could reverse the role of hsa_circ_0010729 knockdown on HUVECs progression. Reactive red 2 (RR2) azo dye wastewater poses a serious hazard to the water environment health, so using a novel and efficient Electro- Ce(III) (E− Ce(III)) process takes on a critical significance in treating RR2 dye wastewater. In this study, the effects of a variety of single-factor conditions on RR2 removal efficiency were evaluated in depth. The results indicated that the optimal experimental conditions are as reaction temperature of 25 °C, Na 2 SO 4 concentration of 25 mM, Ce(III) concentration of 0.3 mM, pH of 4.0, and current density of 40.0 mA/cm2. When the RR2 dye wastewater was treated for 40 min under the optimal experimental conditions, a high removal rate of 99.8% for RR2 was obtained. It is suggested that the background ion PO 4 3− in the dye wastewater inhibits the E-Ce (III) process, whereas Cl- facilitates this process. Moreover, the yield of Ce(IV) increases with the increase of the current density. At the current density of 40.0 mA/cm2, a reasonable energy consumption of 3.85 kW h/gTOC for the process was obtained after the 3-h treatment. The effects of different degradation processes (including Direct Electrooxidation (DEO), single Ce(III), and E-Ce (III)) on RR2 removal efficiency and TOC change were compared. The types of oxidizing substances in the E-Ce (III) process were detected, and the mechanism of RR2 oxidative degradation in the E-Ce (III) process was summarized. The result suggests that the E-Ce (III) process has low power consumption. Meanwhile, in the E-Ce (III) process, free reactive Ce(IV) with strong oxidation is continuously generated, RR2 can be efficiently degraded. And the continuous cycle transformation between Ce(III) and Ce(IV) maintains the strong oxidation of the process. The contribution of free reactive Ce(IV) and DEO to RR2 degradation was obtained as 58.8% and 39.8%, respectively. The combined effect of Ce(IV) and DEO played a major role in the E-Ce (III) process, while ·OH exhibited a relatively weak effect (nearly 1.4%). RR2 was comprised of 13 major intermediates, and the biodegradability of wastewater was improved significantly after treatment, thus facilitating the further mineralization and biodegradation of the products. The E− Ce(III) process is novel, efficient, and environment-friendly, and has a large market application space, suggesting that it can be applied as an efficient, economic, and sustainable water treatment process. Most compounds displayed high cytotoxic activity against drug-sensitive/-resistant cancer cells. In particular, the IC 50 of 9a (0.42 µM) was about 9-fold lower than that of β-lap (3.69 µM) and 12-fold lower than that of SAHA (5.24 µM) in drug-resistant cancer cells. Also, 9a was demonstrated to selectively inhibit the growth of Bel7402/5-FU cancer cells. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that 9a could serve as an NO donor and nicotinamide quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) inhibitor (IC 50 = 0.8 µM), which could induce the highest level of NO and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in Bel-7402/5-FU cancer cells. Furthermore, 9a could promote tumor cell apoptosis and autophagy via regulation of apoptosis-related protein (Bax, Bcl-2, and Caspase 3) and autophagy-associated proteins (LC3 and p62) in Bel-7402/5-FU cells. The novel nanomaterial displayed superior removal of methyl orange, methylene blue, and tetracycline in low pH solutions with 100%, 100%, and 83%, respectively. The effects of solution pH, adsorption time, and contaminant concentration on the performance of the nanocomposite were also investigated, and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model well described the data. Physical adsorption including electrostatic adsorption, anion exchange, and hydrogen bonding are the predominant mechanisms for contaminant removal. Through the use of permanent magnets, the recovery process of the adsorbent and the adsorbed dyes and antibiotics is energetically and economically sustainable. This as-synthesized nanocomposite as multifunction material has a high removal rate, low cost, and easy separation, and the applicability in treating the solutions with low pH, which is promised to be an efficient organic wastewater remover in practical applications. Among group A rotaviruses (RVAs), the G1 genotype is the main genotype causing diarrhea in children, but it has rarely been reported in pigs. During our epidemiological investigation, we detected G1P[7] rotavirus infection in piglets across several provinces in China and then isolated a porcine G1P[7] rotavirus strain (CN1P7). Sequencing revealed that the virus constellation was G1-P[7]-I5-R1-C1-M1-A8-N1-T1-E1-H1. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that CN1P7 most likely emerged due to genetic reassortment among porcine, human, giant panda and dog rotavirus strains. In vivo experiments were conducted on two-day-old piglets, which revealed that the CN1P7 strain was pathogenic to piglets. The virus was shed through the digestive tract and respiratory tract. In addition to the intestine, the CN1P7 strain displayed extraintestinal tropisms in piglets. Histopathological analysis revealed that the lung and small intestine were the targets of CN1P7. • Impaired attention functions were found in patients with TLE. • Eye tracking showed significant longer MRT and MFST, and more TSC in TLE. • Lower amplitudes and longer latencies of N1 and P3, as well as higher value of theta/beta and theta/alpha were found in TLE. • The energy of beta band was sensitive to the changes of orienting network with time. To explore multiple features of attention impairments in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). A total of 93 patients diagnosed with TLE at Xiangya Hospital during May 2022 and December 2022 and 85 healthy controls were included in this study. Participants were asked to complete neuropsychological scales and attention network test (ANT) with recording of eye-tracking and electroencephalogram. All means of evaluation showed impaired attention functions in TLE patients. ANT results showed impaired orienting (p < 0.001) and executive control (p = 0.041) networks. Longer mean first saccade time (p = 0.046) and more total saccadic counts (p = 0.035) were found in eye-tracking results, indicating abnormal alerting and orienting networks. Both alerting, orienting and executive control networks were abnormal, manifesting as decreased amplitudes (N1 & P3, p < 0.001) and extended latency (P3, p = 0.002). The energy of theta, alpha and beta were all sensitive to the changes of alerting and executive control network with time, but only beta power was sensitive to the changes of orienting network. Our findings are helpful for early identification of patients with TLE combined with attention impairments, which have strong clinical guiding significance for long-term monitoring and intervention. Magnetic carboxyl groups modified (MMS) and non-magnetic amine groups modified (AMS) sugarcane bagasse were prepared and mixed to remove cationic and anionic dye simultaneously from aqueous solution. For comparison, the adsorption performances of MMS, AMS and the mixed sorbent for basic magenta (cationic dye) and congo red (anionic dye) were investigated in the binary system. Zeta potential analysis showed that MMS was negatively charged and AMS was positively charged in the investigated pH range. The adsorption capacities of MMS for basic magenta and congo red were 1.24 and 0.04 mmol g −1 , while those of AMS were 0.04 and 1.55 mmol g −1 , respectively. Both of MMS and AMS had high adsorption capacity and affinity toward opposite-charged dye but low adsorption capacity and affinity toward similar-charged dye. Adsorption experiments in the binary system showed that only the mixed sorbent could remove the two dyes simultaneously from aqueous solution (removal efficiencies >90%). The amounts of basic magenta and congo red absorbed on the mixed sorbent both increased linearly with the increase of their initial concentrations in the investigated range. The dye loaded mixed magnetic and non-magnetic sorbents could be separated by a magnet. MMS and AMS could be regenerated by using acid and alkaline eluents, respectively. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects millions of people worldwide. Although the etiology of this disease is uncertain, accumulating evidence indicates a key role for the activated mucosal immune system. In the present study, we examined the effects of the natural compound fraxinellone on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice, an animal model that mimics IBD. Treatment with fraxinellone significantly reduced weight loss and diarrhea in mice and alleviated the macroscopic and microscopic signs of the disease. In addition, the activities of myeloperoxidase and alkaline phosphatase were markedly suppressed, while the levels of glutathione were increased in colitis tissues following fraxinellone treatment. This compound also decreased the colonic levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-18 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in a concentration-dependent manner. These effects of fraxinellone in mice with experimental colitis were attributed to its inhibition of CD11b + macrophage infiltration. The mRNA levels of macrophage-related molecules in the colon, including intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1), vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM1), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2), were also markedly inhibited following fraxinellone treatment. The results from in vitro assays showed that fraxinellone significantly reduced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of nitric oxide (NO), IL-1β and IL-18 as well as the activity of iNOS in both THP-1 cells and mouse primary peritoneal macrophages. The mechanisms responsible for these effects were attributed to the inhibitory role of fraxinellone in NF-κB signaling and NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Abstract: On the plane-wave ultrasoft pseudopotential technique based on the first-principles density functional theory (DFT), we calculated the structural, elastic, electronic and optical properties of the seven different phases of SrZrO3. The obtained ground-state properties are in good agreement with previous experiments and calculations, which indicate that the most stable phase is orthorhombic Pnma structure. Seven phases of SrZrO3 are mechanically stable with cubic, tetragonal and orthorhombic structures. The mechanical and thermodynamic properties have been obtained by using the Voigt–Reuss–Hill approach and Debye–Grüneisen model. Background: Heterotopic heart transplantation in rats has been widely used in various experiments since Ono and Lindsey published their technique . Many modifications have been reported to improve this animal model. In this study, we described a new modified Ono and Lindsey technique. Methods: BN and Lewis rats weighing 200 to 250g were used as donors and recipients. Donor heart was transplanted into the recipients'' abdominal cavity, anastomosing the donor bracheocephalic trunk (BT) and the right pulmonary artery (RPA) to the recipient''s abdominal artery (AA) and inferior vena cava (IVC). Graft function was evaluated by pulse palpation and histopathologic examination; intragraft cytokine mRNA expression was detected by quantitative PCR; the hemodynamics indexes of the recipients receiving our modified approach and traditional Ono and Lindsey technique were compared. Results: Thirty heart transplantations were carried out in our modified technique with three graft losses. The total operation can be finished within 1h. Both histopathologic findings and quantitative PCR results confirmed the presence of acute graft rejection. In addition, the hemodynamics indexes of recipients receiving our modified approach were nearer normal physiologic situation than those of recipients receiving traditional technique. Conclusion: Our modified technique is an easily learned and reproduced procedure that allows less recipient surgical stress, a shorter operation time, and leads to a high graft and recipient survival rate. Abstract: The expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in heart allografts is an important mechanism in response to ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury which represents the single major non-immunologic factor implicated in pathogenesis of chronic graft dysfunction (CGD). Adenoviral mediated overexpression of HIF-1α is a useful way to investigate the molecular mechanisms of I/R injury and the cardiac function during heart transplantation. The oxygen-dependent degradation (ODD) domain of HIF-1α can lead to degradation of the HIF-1α protein in normoxia. This will be an obstacle to steady expression of HIF-1α in heart allograft after transduction. In this study, we obtained the coding sequence of HIF-1α without ODD domain (HIF-1αΔODD) through a PCR-based method, and then generated the HIF-1αΔODD-expressing adenovirus. In normoxia, adenoviral mediated expression of HIF-1αΔODD shows constitutive activity in human cardiomyocytes, and can up-regulate heme oxygenase (HO)-1 mRNA levels significantly compared with the group transduced with HIF-1α-expressing adenovirus. The constructed HIF-1αΔODD-expressing adenovirus can be used to transduce allografts in animal studies to investigate the mechanism of CGD and provide a useful model to study the regulation mechanisms of genes regulated by HIF-1α alone. Abstract: A novel protocol for rapid and high-quality sample preparation prior to matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI–TOF MS) has been developed by coating bare stainless steel plates with one of three adhesives: mineral oil, glycerol, or Vaseline. The advantages of these three adhesive coats are that they take little time to both prepare and wipe away, hold the matrices to prevent them from flying from the support, reduce the background matrix, and affect neither the resolution of the peptide peaks nor the accuracy of their determined molecular masses. Consequently, the signal intensity, detection limit, and tolerance of the analytes to contaminants on the three adhesive-coated plates are improved. In the two strategies of on-plate desalting and concentration of the peptide mixture, all three adhesives reduced the loss of peptides, especially in the case of larger molecular mass peptides. The microscope and stereomicroscope images of the deposited droplets showed that after dropping onto the adhesive coats, the droplets formed a reduced spot size, were more homogeneous, and showed sticky crystallization. Therefore, this is an easy-to-use, reproducible, highly sensitive, tolerant (to salts), and high-throughput method of peptide sample preparation for MALDI–TOF MS analysis. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Surgical repair of obstructive lesions of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) commonly creates pulmonary valve incompetence, which continues to stimulate research for the optimal materials and surgical techniques to reconstruct RVOT. In this study, we present the early results with simultaneous enlargement of the pulmonary annulus and the pulmonary cusp with a transannular patch of autologous pericardium in RVOT reconstruction. Patients and methods: From January 2003 to December 2005, the surgical technique of simultaneous enlargement of the pulmonary annulus and the pulmonary cusp was used in 32 patients who had complex congenital heart anomalies with pulmonary artery hypoplasia. The functional status of the patients was followed up in the cardiologic clinic of our institute. The motion of the newly constructed valve and the degree of pulmonary insufficiency were evaluated by echocardiography before discharge and at 2–6 months, 12 months, and 36 months postoperatively. Results: Early death occurred in one patient (3.1%). Postoperative complications occurred in six patients but they recovered uneventfully. During the follow-up, 28 of 31 operative survivors were in New York Heart Association functional class I without medication and the other three were in class II. Seventeen patients had no or trivial pulmonary regurgitation; mild regurgitation was present in 12 patients, and moderate regurgitation was seen in 2 patients. None of these patients needed reoperation and echocardiography showed good motion of the reconstructed valve. Conclusions: The surgical technique of simultaneous enlargement of the pulmonary annulus and the pulmonary cusp with a transannular patch of autologous pericardium is a safe, reliable, and effective way for RVOT reconstruction. Swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV) is a newly discovered enteric coronavirus. We have previously shown that the caspase-dependent FASL-mediated and mitochondrion-mediated apoptotic pathways play a central role in SADS-CoV-induced apoptosis, which facilitates viral replication. However, the roles of intracellular signaling pathways in SADS-CoV-mediated cell apoptosis and the relative advantages that such pathways confer on the host or virus remain largely unknown. In this study, we show that SADS-CoV induces the activation of ERK during infection, irrespective of viral biosynthesis. The knockdown or chemical inhibition of ERK1/2 significantly suppressed viral protein expression and viral progeny production. The inhibition of ERK activation also circumvented SADS-CoV-induced apoptosis. Taken together, these data suggest that ERK activation is important for SADS-CoV replication, and contributes to the virus-mediated changes in host cells. Our findings demonstrate the takeover of a particular host signaling mechanism by SADS-CoV and identify a potential approach to inhibiting viral spread. • SADS-CoV activated the ERK signaling pathway irrespective of viral replication. • Chemical inhibition and ERK1/2 knockdown markedly impaired SADS-CoV replication. • There were crosstalk between ERK and apoptotic pathways during SADS-CoV infection. • SADS-CoV exploits the ERK cascade to complete successful viral infection. Limited utilization of photogenerated charge carriers in titanium dioxide under visible light have hinder its application development. To address this challenge, a novel N-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) and oxygen vacancies (OVs) synergistically decorated on TiO 2 (P25) was synthesized through a facile one-step hydrothermal method. Under visible light irradiation, the first order reaction rate constants of formaldehyde (HCHO) photocatalytic oxidation by OVs-TiO 2 and N-CQDs/OVs-TiO 2 was significantly higher than that of pristine P25, with 10.1 and 16.7 folds increase, respectively. Characterization results confirmed the generation of OVs on the surface of N-CQDs/TiO 2 composite. The optical and electrochemical experiments suggested the electron capture center effect of OVs and the properties of N-CQDs in unique up-converted photoluminescence, efficient charge separation, as well as significant adsorption in visible light region. In addition, the work function also clarified that photoelectrons could transfer from N-CQDs to OVs-TiO 2. Furthermore, different relative humidity and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments demonstrated that the hydroxyl radical (•OH) was the dominant reactive radical in HCHO photodegradation. The •O 2 − could also enhance the photodegradation efficiency of HCHO. This work provides an in-depth understanding on the complementary roles of N-CQDs and OVs and is helpful for designing metallic oxide photocatalysts for volatile organic compounds removal. Phospholipase A2 receptor 1 (PLA2R1) plays a crucial role in various diseases, including membranous nephropathy. However, the precise implications of PLA2R1 deficiency remain poorly understood. In this study, we created PLA2R1 knockout rats to explore potential consequences resulting from the loss of the PLA2R1 gene. Unexpectedly, our PLA2R1 knockout rats exhibited symptoms resembling those of chronic kidney disease after an 8-week observation period. Notably, several rats developed persistent proteinuria, a hallmark of renal dysfunction. Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence analyses revealed insignificant glomerular fibrosis, reduced podocyte count, and augmented glomerular expression of complement C3 (C3) compared to immunoglobin A (IgA) and immunoglobin G(IgG) in the rat model. These findings suggest that the loss of PLA2R1 may contribute to the pathogenesis of membranous nephropathy and related conditions. Rational heterojunction interface construction and defect engineering have been regarded as significant strategies to enhance the photocatalytic performance of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) production. Herein, a novel 2D/1D BiOBr/WO 3 Z-scheme heterostructure with compact interface and rich oxygen vacancies (OVs) was successfully fabricated by an in situ -growth procedure. The rational design architecture and electronic structure allow the photocatalytic system to fully optimize light absorption, charge separation, and surface redox reaction. Benefited from synergistic effect of the formation of compact Z-scheme heterostructur and oxygen vacancies, the as-prepared BiOBr/WO 3 photocatalysts exhibit a greatly improved photocatalytic performance in the production of H 2 O 2 with a yield of 82.4 mM/h/g. We believe that this work provides a novel sight to develop high-efficiency photocatalyst via microstructure nanointerface control and defect engineering. Iodinated contrast media (ICM), one of the pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), are frequently detected in various water bodies due to the strong biochemical stability and recalcitrance to conventional water treatment. Additionally, ICM pose a risk of forming iodinated by-products that can be detrimental to the aquatic ecosystem. Consequently, effectively removing ICM from aqueous environments is a significant concern for environmental researchers. This article provides a comprehensive review of the structural characteristics of ICM, their primary source (e.g., domestic and hospital wastewater), detected concentrations in water environments, and ecological health hazards associated with them. The current wastewater treatment technologies for ICM control are also reviewed in detail with the aim of providing a reference for future research. Prior researches have demonstrated that traditional treatment processes (such as physical adsorption, biochemical method and chemical oxidation method) have inadequate efficiencies in the removal of ICM. Currently, the application of advanced oxidation processes to remove ICM has become extensive, but there are some issues like poor deiodination efficiency and the risk of forming toxic intermediates or iodinated by-products. Conversely, reduction technologies have a high deiodination rate, enabling the targeted removal of ICM. But the subsequent treatment issues related to iodine (such as I− and OI−) are often underestimated, potentially generating iodinated by-products during the subsequent treatment processes. Hence, we proposed using combined reduction-oxidation technologies to remove ICM and achieved synchronous control of iodinated by-products. In the future, it is recommended to study the degradation efficiency of ICM and the control efficiency of iodinated by-products by combining different reduction and oxidation processes. Hyperbranched molecules are a kind of promising materials due to their unique structures. In this work, two hyperbranched molecules (GON and GOH) are used as effective inhibitors for Al alloys in NaCl solution. Their inhibitive performances are evaluated by electrochemical measurements and surface characterization. The results indicate that inhibition performances of GON and GOH are closely related to the concentrations, influenced by the combination of steric hindrance and bonding effects. At relatively low concentrations (0.03–0.10 mM), GON displays a more pronounced ability to inhibit corrosion than GOH, owing to more anchoring functional groups. Oppositely, GOH has good inhibition performance at higher concentrations (0.50–1.00 mM). The interaction between the Al electrode and GOH results in the formation of a more condenser protective film than GON at high concentrations.
