This paper proposes a new method to improve re performance of intra-field interpolation which is the mos~ important element of deinterlacing method. Traditional edge- based methods were poor at determining accurate edge iirection which decides interpolation performance. The 7roposed method decides the direction and slope of edge based on locally adaptive-thresholded binary image to mprove efficiency and accuracy, and it also increased the ~orizontal size of search window to 15 for better direction ietermination at gentle slope. Compared to traditional edge- based methods, interpolation based on binary image, which is ,`enerated using the proposed method, leads to great erformance improvement. A three-phase, two-winding transformer model is presented in this paper. Nonlinear magnetizing curves are piece-wise linearized, while the input winding capacitances are lumped onto the transformer terminals. A stiff system of differential equations in a state space, describing the transformer transient behavior, is solved using the L-stable backward differentiation formulas (BDFs) numerical rule. It has been shown that using the BDF numerical rule has resulted in better stability properties than using the trapezoidal rule. A computer program has been developed for generation of variable-state waveforms. The developed program is suitable for simulations of low-frequency three-phase transformer transients such as inrush currents and ferroresonance. This computer program has proved to be nu- merically stable for the problems investigated in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to show how the tendency to fully automate the electromagnetic simulation procedure without attention to the physical nature of the problem, as well as understanding the numerical procedure used, may lead a designer to making wrong decisions. Promising designs may be aborted, while others that should be aborted may be moved on to the prototyping step, causing loss of time and money. We propose a new method to simulate large scale water phenomena by combining particle, 3D grid and height field methods. In contrast to most hybrid approaches that use particles to simulate foam and spray only, we also represent the bulk of water near the surface with both particles and a grid depending on the regions of interest and switch between those two representations during the course of the simulation. For the coupling we leverage the recent idea of tracking the water surface with a density field in grid based methods. Combining particles and a grid simulation then amounts to adding the density field of the particles and the one stored on the grid. For open scenes, we simulate the water outside of the 3D grid domain by solving the Shallow Water Equations on a height field. We propose new methods to couple these two domains such that waves travel naturally across the border. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in various scenarios including a whale breaching simulation, all running in real-time or at interactive rates. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

A theoretical model is presented describing continuous-wave operation of diode-end-pumped Er3+:YAG lasers. Implemented as a numerical computer model it takes into account the full spectral information of the pump and laser transitions as well as all important ionic levels, their Stark splitting, decay schemes, up-conversion processes, excited-state absorption and especially the thermal dependencies of these important parameters. Modes' character of high-power microwave (HPM) pulses generated in coaxial vircator is discussed. The electromagnetic (EM) field gains due to beam-wave interaction for TM01 and TE11 modes are derived according to the E-field distribution pattern inside the anode cavity. Two-and-a-half dimensional (2.5-D) and three-dimensional (3.D) computer simulations are carried out to determine the main mode under different numerical simulation coordinate systems. Finally, the experimental verification is obtained by two different diagnostic methods. Caire, Taricco, and Biglieri presented a detailed analysis of bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM), a simple and popular technique used to improve system performance, especially in the context of fading channels. They derived an upper bound to the probability of error, called the expurgated bound. In this correspondence, the proof of the expurgated bound is shown to be flawed. A new upper bound is also derived. It is not known whether the original expurgated bound is valid for the important special case of square QAM with Gray labeling, but the new bound is very close to, and slightly tighter than, the original bound for a numerical example.
