Uncovering the trade-offs and synergy relationship of multiple ecosystem services (ESs) is important for scientific ecosystem management and the improvement of ecological service functions. In this study, we investigated the spatiotemporal changes of four typical ES types (i.e., water yield (WY), carbon storage (CS), soil conservation (SC), and habitat quality (HQ)) from 2001 to 2020 in the Han River Basin (HRB). Meanwhile, the trade-offs and synergies between paired ESs and the socioecological drivers of these ESs were further explored. The results showed that grassland, cropland, and bare land decreased by 12,141.3 km2, 624.09 km2, and 22.1 km2 during the study period, respectively, which can be attributed to their conversion to forests in the HRB. Temporally, the WY, CS, and SC all showed a continuously increasing trend. Spatially, WY and HQ exhibited bipolar clustering characteristics, with WY exhibiting low-value clustering in the upstream and high-value clustering in the downstream, while CS showed the clustering characteristics of a scattered distribution of cold and hot spots from 2001 to 2020. The spatial patterns of aggregation locations in CS and HQ were relatively similar, with clusters of higher ES values mainly distributed in the western and central regions and clusters of lower ES values mainly located in the eastern and southeastern regions, while the aggregation of WY was spatially concentrated. Overall, the CS showed a significant positive correlation with HQ, but a significant negative correlation with WY. Spatially, WY and HQ, CS, and SC showed a substantial trade-off relationship in the northwest and southeast parts of the study area, while HQ, CS, and SC mainly exhibited a synergistic relationship in most parts of the study area. Slope and temperature had high influencing factor coefficients on multiple ESs; the mixed effect of terrain and natural factors was significantly greater than the impact of a single factor on ESs, and terrain factors played an essential role in the changes in ESs. In this study, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network approach is employed to evaluate the prediction performance of PM2.5 in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region (BTH). The proposed method is evaluated using the hourly air quality datasets from the China National Environmental Monitoring Center, European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts ERA5 (ECMWF-ERA5), and Multi-resolution Emission Inventory for China (MEIC) for the years 2016 and 2017. The predicted PM2.5 concentrations demonstrate a strong correlation with the observed values (R2 = 0.871–0.940) in the air quality dataset. Furthermore, the model exhibited the best performance in situations of heavy pollution (PM2.5 > 150 μg/m3) and during the winter season, with respective R2 values of 0.689 and 0.915. In addition, the influence of ECMWF-ERA5's hourly meteorological factors was assessed, and the results revealed regional heterogeneity on a large scale. Further evaluation was conducted by analyzing the chemical components of the MEIC inventory on the prediction performance. The construction of an appropriate cropping pattern is crucial for the improvement of regional agricultural economic efficiency and sustainable development. Despite previous efforts, there remains a gap in optimizing cropping patterns that fully leverage climate resources to enhance production efficiency. This study addresses this gap by systematically comparing the differences in climate resource allocation, production efficiency and crop response among models by constructing four new triple-maturing cropping models at typical ecological sites in the hilly areas of southwest China. To solve the above problems, we constructed eight cropping patterns and classified them to three as follows: the Traditional Double Cropping System, the Traditional Triple Cropping System, the Novel Triple Cropping System. The results showed that the new multi-maturing planting pattern was significantly better than the traditional two-maturing netting pattern and the traditional three-maturing planting pattern in terms of light, temperature and water productivity. Compared with the traditional two-maturity net cropping model and the traditional three-maturity cropping model, the new cropping model increased light energy productivity by 97.88% and 50.00%, respectively; light energy use by an average of 0.48% and 0.31%; cumulative temperature productivity by an average of 84.70% and 49.14%; and rainfall productivity by an average of 101.04% and 49.61%. An assessment of the light, temperature and water meteorological resource use efficiency of the different treatments showed that the resource use efficiency of the new multi-maturing planting pattern was on average 111.58% and 74.78% higher than that of the traditional two-maturing net planting pattern and the traditional three-maturing planting pattern, with the T6 pattern having the highest resource use efficiency. The new multi-ripening cropping pattern has demonstrated production stability in response to changes in light, temperature and water resources, better adapting to weekly climate changes, stabilizing yields and improving efficiency. In summary, the results of this study can provide a theoretical basis for optimizing cropping patterns and promoting the use of climate resources in agriculture and sustainable development. There are few studies on the climate and glacial scale in the mountains east of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. So, we used glacial features to determine the range of the area's paleoglaciers and the equilibrium line altitude (ELA) of theGlA modern and paleoglaciers in the Tianchi area of the Changbai Mountains. Then, the GlaRe toolbox 2015 () was used to reconstruct the surface of the paleoglaciers. The probable air temperature during the glacial advances of the LGM was calculated by applying the P-T and LR models. The results showed the following: (1) the change in ELA is 950 m in the Tianchi area of the Changbai Mountains; (2) glacial coverage in the Tianchi area of the Changbai Mountains during the LGM period was ~27.05 km2 and the glacial volume was ~9.94 km3; and (3) the mean temperature in the Tianchi area of the Changbai Mountains during the LGM was 6.6–9.0 °C lower than today's, and was the principal factor controlling the growth of glaciers. Geothermal water is the product of deep circulation within the crust, and the understanding of its hydrogeochemical process can provide effective information for integrated research on its circulation pattern and formation mechanism. Based on the geothermal geological conditions of the Yanggao geothermal field, this study analyzed water samples from thermal springs and geothermal wells in the geothermal field, ascertaining their hydrochemical components, along with their hydrogen and oxygen isotopes. Using methods like piper diagrams, ionic component ratio characterization, Na–K–Mg equilibrium diagrams, and reverse path simulations, this study elucidated the recharge source of geothermal water in the study area, revealed the water–rock interactions the geothermal water experienced, and evaluated the geothermal reservoir temperatures. The results show that the geothermal water has hydrochemical types of Na–Cl–HCO3 and Na–HCO3–Cl, and is primarily recharged by the atmospheric precipitation in the northern mountainous area. The geothermal water has experienced extended water runoff and deep thermal circulation, and its hydrochemical composition primarily results from the weathering and dissolution of silicate rocks and evaporites. The major hydrogeochemical processes of the geothermal water involve the dissolution of calcite, dolomite, gypsum, and kaolinite. In addition, the canon-exchange also changes the chemical component of the geothermal water. The SiO2 Geothermometer, a multimineral equilibrium diagram, and the silica–enthalpy model reveal the presence of deep and shallow geothermal reservoirs in the study area, which exhibit temperatures of 73 °C and ranging from 125 to 150 °C, respectively. The open geothermal reservoir environment results in the mixing of geothermal water and cold water, with shallow and deep geothermal water mixing with cold water at ratios of 57% and 76%, respectively. Peach (Prunus persica L.) is one of the most important and oldest stone fruits grown in China. Even though P. persica is one of the most commonly grown stone fruits in China, little is known about the biodiversity of microfungi associated with peach branch diseases. In the present study, samples were collected from a wide range of peach growing areas in China, and fungal pathogens associated with peach branch diseases were isolated. In total, 85 isolates were obtained and further classified into nine genera and 10 species. Most of the isolates belonged to Botryosphaeriaceae (46), including Botryosphaeria, Diplodia, Neofusicoccum, Phaeobotryon, and Lasiodiplodia species; Ascochyta, Didymella, and Nothophoma species representing Didymellaceae were also identified. Herein, we introduce Ascochyta prunus and Lasiodiplodia pruni as novel species. In addition, we report the first records of Nothophoma pruni, Neofusicoccum occulatum, and Phaeobotryon rhois on peach worldwide, and Didymella glomerata, Nothophoma quercina, and Phaeoacremonium scolyti are the first records from China. This research is the first comprehensive investigation to explore the microfungi associated with peach branch disease in China. This paper aims to develop a new model of Project-Based Instructional Taxonomy (PBIT) that provides a tool of course design that facilitates Computational Thinking (CT) development as creative action in solving real-life problems. Theoretically, PBIT is built on an integrative framework bringing together with studies on CT education, creativity, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Project-Based Instruction (PBI). This guides the course design to make alignment between diverse elements including education objectives, categories of CT, levels of learning ability, process of project facilitation, and methods of grading. A case will be discussed that focuses on a course Deep Learning and Technologies in AI bachelor program at Northeastern University (NEU) in China. It also shows how PBIT is applied in teaching practice that benefits students' CT development. The main objective of this study is to put forward effective schemes for alleviating reservoir choke caused by emulsification or Jamin's effect using the dilution method by light crude oil, as well as sharply increased viscosity. In this study, water-in-heavy-oil (W/O) emulsions with varying water fractions were prepared with heavy oil from Bohai Bay, China. Mixtures of W/O emulsions and light crude oil samples (light oil and light heavy oil) with varied dilution ratio (1:9, 2:8, 3:7) are tested, respectively by the electron microscope and by the rheometer. W/O droplets' distribution and viscosity variations are obtained to evaluate the emulsion stability and viscosity reduction effects by dilution. Results show that W/O droplets, size distribution range increases with the increase of water fractions. W/O droplets with larger size tend to be broken first in the dilution process. Light oil could reduce emulsions' viscosity more effectively than light heavy oil. Viscosity reduction mechanisms by dilution could be concluded as the synergistic effects of dissolving heavy components and weakening oil–water film stability. Therefore, light oil is suggested as the optimal one for solving formation plugging. The poor performance of Richardson model is related to the re-emulsification between free water and crude oil favored by light heavy oil, and demulsification favored by light oil. The modified model shows a significant improvement in prediction accuracy, especially for W/O emulsions with large water fractions. This study demonstrates a promising and practical strategy of solving heavy oil well shutdown problems and viscosity increasing by injecting light crude oil in the thermal stimulation. Salt intrusion presents a significant environmental challenge in numerous estuaries around the world, including the Modaomen Estuary in China. This phenomenon typically occurs during the winter season due to reduced freshwater flow. However, an unusual salt intrusion event was observed during the autumn of 2022, coinciding with a typhoon. In this study, we assess the response of the Modaomen to Typhoon Nesat in 2022 and examine the influence of the typhoon on salt intrusion using the Semi-implicit Cross-scale Hydroscience Integrated System Model (SCHISM). The model results reveal that salt intrusion during a typhoon event is primarily driven by the storm surge and landward Ekman transport. Northeasterly winds enhance stratification between saltwater and freshwater in the Modaomen. Moreover, with the typhoon's passage, the Denglongshan Station recorded a peak salinity of 17 psu, with salt intrusion stretching 29 km further. This escalation led to salinity levels surpassing the local drinking water standard of 0.5 psu across all freshwater intake points in Zhuhai City. Numerical experiments indicate that if Typhoon Nesat had occurred during spring tides, the salt intrusion would have been less severe. Furthermore, the study revealed that regulating the upstream runoff could potentially alleviate the effects of typhoon-induced salt intrusion on ensuring a safe water supply. With a runoff increase to 4000 m3/s, the impact of typhoons on Modaomen's drinking water supply can be managed, and at 6000 m3/s, the influence of typhoons on water supply becomes negligible. The effects of long-term monocropping systems combined with climate on soil water aggregate stability (WSA) and soil fertility in the karst region of Southwest China (KRSWC) are unclear. Our research was conducted in the KRSWC, wherein tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) production is characterized by heavy fertilization and continuous monocropping. The tobacco fields in the study area have similar soil types and fertilization and tillage practices and are spread over an area of 11,500 km2. A total of 568 topsoil samples were collected in 2021. Soil fertility was reflected using the soil fertility index (SFI), which was calculated using the minimum data set method with six soil fertility-related factors, namely, soil pH, soil organic matter, cation exchange capacity, available nitrogen, available phosphorus, and available potassium. Results showed that long-term planting generally promoted soil fertility levels and WSA content. WSA and SFI had inconsistent spatial distribution patterns likely due to different climate-driven effects. WSA variability was greatly controlled by precipitation (Spearman correlation coefficient [r] = −0.49, p < 0.01), whereas SFI variability was mostly dominated by temperature (r = −0.36, p < 0.01). The levels of SFI and WSA were optimal under conditions of low temperature and precipitation and poor under conditions of high temperature and precipitation. Moreover, long-term planting could alleviate the negative effects of climate on SFI and WSA in the KRSWC. Glaciers retreating due to global warming create important new habitats, particularly suitable for studying ecosystem development where nitrogen is a limiting factor. Nitrogen availability mainly results from microbial decomposition and transformation processes, including nitrification. AOA and AOB perform the first and rate-limiting step of nitrification. Investigating the abundance and diversity of AOA and AOB is essential for understanding early ecosystem development. The dynamics of AOA and AOB community structure along a soil chronosequence in Tianshan No. 1 Glacier foreland were analyzed using qPCR and clone library methods. The results consistently showed low quantities of both AOA and AOB throughout the chronosequence. Initially, the copy numbers of AOB were higher than those of AOA, but they decreased in later stages. The AOB community was dominated by "Nitrosospira cluster ME", while the AOA community was dominated by "the soil and sediment 1". Both communities were potentially connected to supra- and subglacial microbial communities during early stages. Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the ratios of AOA and AOB with soil ammonium and total nitrogen levels. These results suggest that variations in abundance and diversity of AOA and AOB along the chronosequences were influenced by ammonium availability during glacier retreat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mountains in northern Xinjiang of China were studied during the snowmelt season. Multi-source fusions of live data of the Chinese Land Data Assimilation System (CLDAS, 0.05° × 0.05°, hourly data) were used as real data, and the Central Meteorological Observatory guidance forecast (SCMOC, 0.05° × 0.05°, forecasting the following 10 days in 3 h intervals) was used as forecast data, both of which were issued by the China Meteorological Administration. The dynamic linear regression and the average filter correction algorithms were selected to revise the original forecast products for SCMOC. Based on the conventional temperature forecast information, we designed four temperature-rise prediction algorithms for essential factors affecting snowmelt. The temperature-rise prediction algorithms included the daily maximum temperature algorithm, daily temperature-rise-range algorithm, snowmelt temperature algorithm, and daily snowmelt duration algorithm. Four temperature-rise prediction values were calculated for each prediction product. The root–mean-squared error algorithm and temperature prediction accuracy algorithm were used to compare and test each prediction algorithm value from the time sequence and spatial distribution. Comprehensive tests showed that the forecast product revised by the average filter algorithm was superior to the revised dynamic linear regression algorithm as well as the original forecast product. Through these algorithms, the more suitable temperature-rise forecast value for each grid point in the study area could be obtained at different prediction times. The comprehensive and accurate temperature forecast value in the mountainous snowmelt season could provide an accurate theoretical basis for the effective prediction of runoff in snowmelt areas and the prevention of snowmelt flooding. This study aimed to identify fungal species associated with trunk diseases of sweet cherries (Prunus avium) in several commercial cherry orchards in Beijing, Guizhou and Shandong provinces, China. In total, eighteen fungal strains that fitted well into the species concept of Diaporthe were isolated. Based on both morphological and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses of internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), beta-tubulin (tub-2), calmodulin (Cal) and translation elongation factor 1-α (tef1–α) sequencing data, fourteen isolates were identified as Diaporthe eres, while four isolates were classified as D. hongkongensis. Here, we report D. hongkongensis causing sweet cherry branch dieback disease and, further, we confirmed the host association of D. eres with sweet cherries in China. A pathogenicity assay revealed the ability of both D. eres and D. hongkongensis to cause shoot necrosis and stem lesions on Prunus avium cv. 'Brooks' (mean lesion lengths of 1.86 cm and 1.56 cm, respectively). The optimal temperature for the growth of both Diaporthe species was tested. The optimal growth temperature for D. hongkongensis was 30 °C, and the 25–28 °C temperatures were the most favorable for the growth of D. eres strains. This research advances the understanding of fungal trunk diseases in fruit crops, particularly gummosis and branch dieback disease in Chinese cherry orchards, and will aid growers in making decisions about cultural practices and disease management. Optimizing Cropping patterns is important for the improvement of regional agricultural economic efficiency and sustainable development. However, there are few studies on the sustainability of cropping patterns in hilly areas. Here, we studied four new three-maturing cropping patterns in a typical ecological site in the hilly areas of southwest China. An analytical method combining economic efficiency evaluation and energy value analysis was used to evaluate and compare the economic efficiency and sustainability of the new cropping model and the traditional cropping model. We explored the construction of a new three-crop cropping model suitable for the southwest hilly area to improve the economic benefits of agricultural production and improve the sustainability of agricultural production. To solve the above problems, we constructed eight cropping patterns and classified them as follows: The Traditional Double Cropping System: T1, oilseed rape-summer soybean; T2, oilseed rape-summer maize; T3, wheat-summer maize. Traditional Triple Cropping System: T4, wheat/spring maize/summer soybean. Novel Triple Cropping System: T5, forage oilseed rape-spring maize/summer soybean; T6, forage oilseed rape-spring maize/peanut; T7, potato-spring maize/peanut; T8, potato-spring maize/summer soybean. The results of the study showed that compared with the Traditional Double Cropping System and the Traditional Triple Cropping System, the Novel Triple Cropping System increased the economic yield by an average of 100.39% and 49.18%, the economic production capacity by 71.32% and 36.48%, the biological yield by 12.53% and 4.90%, and the biological production capacity by 13.59% and 5.80%. The economic benefits of the Novel Triple Cropping System were significantly improved, with economic profits increased by CNY 9068 ·hm−2 and CNY 7533 ·hm−2 compared with the Traditional Double Cropping System and the Traditional Triple Cropping System. The energy value analysis further revealed the characteristics of the Novel Triple Cropping System as a high input and high output model. The Novel Triple Cropping System increased energy value inputs by 6.56% and 4.25%, and energy value outputs by 13.69% and 4.27% compared with the Traditional Double Cropping System and the Traditional Triple Cropping System, respectively. This high level of inputs stems mainly from a significant increase in labor inputs. Meanwhile, the energy-value indicator analysis of the Novel Triple Cropping System shows its lower dependence on natural resources, greater production intensification, and increased system stability. As a result, the Novel Triple Cropping System showed higher sustainable production capacity. Drought monitoring ensures the Yangtze River Basin's social economy and agricultural production. Developing a comprehensive index with high monitoring precision is essential to enhance the accuracy of drought management strategies. This study proposes the standardized comprehensive drought index (SCDI) using a novel approach that utilizes the joint distribution of C-vine copula to effectively combine three critical drought factors: precipitation, NDVI, and runoff. The study analyzes the reliability and effectiveness of the SCDI in detecting drought events through quantitative indicators and assesses its applicability in the Yangtze River Basin. The findings are as follows: (1) The SCDI is a highly reliable and applicable drought index. Compared to traditional indices like the SPI, VCI, and SRI, it has a consistency rate of over 67% and can detect drought events in more sensitive months by over 51%. It has a low false negative rate of only 2% and a false positive rate of 0%, making it highly accurate. The SCDI is also applicable to all the third-level sub-basins of the Yangtze River Basin, making it a valuable tool for regional drought monitoring. (2) The time lag effect of the NDVI can affect the sensitivity of the SCDI. When the NDVI time series data are shifted forward by one month, the sensitivity of the SCDI in detecting agricultural drought improves from 47.8% to 53%. (3) The SDCI can assist in monitoring drought patterns in the Yangtze River Basin. From 2001 to 2018, the basin saw fluctuations in drought intensity, with the worst in December 2008. Over the last several decades, China has continuously introduced Duroc boars and used them as breeding boars. Although this crossbreeding method has increased pork production, it has affected pork quality. Nowadays, one of the primary goals of industrial breeding and production systems is to enhance the quality of meat. This research analyzed the molecular mechanisms that control the quality of pork and may be used as a guide for future efforts to enhance meat quality. The genetic mechanisms of cross-breeding for meat quality improvement were investigated by combining transcriptome and metabolome analysis, using Chinese native Jiaxing black (JXB) pigs and crossbred Duroc × Duroc × Berkshire × JXB (DDBJ) pigs. In the longissimus Dorsi muscle, the content of inosine monophosphate, polyunsaturated fatty acid, and amino acids were considerably higher in JXB pigs in contrast with that of DDBJ pigs, whereas DDBJ pigs have remarkably greater levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids than JXB pigs. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differential metabolites were identified using transcriptomic and metabolomic KEGG enrichment analyses. Differential metabolites mainly include amino acids, fatty acids, and phospholipids. In addition, several DEGs that may explain differences in meat quality between the two pig types were found, including genes associated with the metabolism of lipids (e.g., DGKA, LIPG, and LPINI), fatty acid (e.g., ELOVL5, ELOVL4, and ACAT2), and amino acid (e.g., SLC7A2, SLC7A4). Combined with the DEGS-enriched signaling pathways, the regulatory mechanisms related to amino acids, fatty acids, and phospholipids were mapped. The abundant metabolic pathways and DEGs may provide insight into the specific molecular mechanism that regulates meat quality. Optimizing the composition of fatty acids, phospholipids, amino acids, and other compounds in pork is conducive to improving meat quality. Ecosystems away from human disturbance provide an ideal paradigm for microbial ecology research. The Burqin glacier No. 18 in the Chinese Altay Mountains is such an ecosystem; however, there are no prior studies on the microbiology in the area. Here, we isolated 902 bacterial strains on the Burqin glacier No. 18 to determine the diversity and distribution characteristics of microorganisms. Isolated strains belonged to six phyla (in the order of dominance: Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Cyanobacteria, Firmicutes, and Deinococcus-Thermus) and 90 genera. Our results also demonstrated the presence of a high proportion of potential new species (43%) in the Burqin glacier No. 18, and 67% of the potential new species were isolated at 25 °C. Species diversity varied among habitats, with the lowest diversity in surface ice and the highest diversity in the soil farthest from the glacier terminus. The pigmented colonies made up 52.7% of all isolates, with yellow-colored colonies being the most abundant (18.8%). This study indicates that the Burqin glacier No. 18 hosts rich bacterial strain diversity, and may represent a significant potential source of new functional and pigmented bacteria for the development of critical pharmaceuticals. Gravity flow deposits are important hydrocarbon reservoirs in deep lacustrine deposits. Previous studies have paid much attention to the hydrocarbon reservoirs in those intrabasinal classic turbidite deposits. However, relatively little is known about the distribution of oil reservoirs in those extrabasinal hyperpycnal flow deposits. With the help of cores and wireline logging data, the present study undertakes a description and interpretation of subsurface shale oil reservoirs in the deep lake deposits in Chang 7 member, Yanchang Formation, Ordos Basin. Parallel bedded fine sandstone (Sh), massive bedded fine sandstone (Sm), massive bedded fine sandstone with mud clasts (Smg), deformed bedded siltstone (Fd), wave-lenticular bedded siltstone (Fh) and black shale (M) were found and interpreted in those deep lake deposits. The deposits were interpreted as hyperpycnal flow deposits which developed in channel, levee and deep lacustrine facies. The development of the Chang 7 sand body increased gradually, and the sand body of Chang 71 was found to be the main position of sandy hyperpycnites. The fine description of the sand body indicated a channelized sedimentary pattern. The thick sandy hyperpycnites mainly developed in the middle of those channels, and the eastern part of the study area was found to be the main deposition position of the hyperpycnal flow deposits. From the perspective of plane overlap and single well analysis, a thick sand body is the favorable position for the development of an oil reservoir, which has a significant control effect on the reservoir scale and oil production. Simple Summary: Salmonella is an important pathogen, which causes a variety of animal salmonellosis and foodborne diseases in humans. In recent years, due to the abuse of antimicrobials, the rapid emergence of resistant Salmonella, especially extended spectrum β-lactamase-positive strains (ESBL-producers), has brought great challenges to animal industries and public health safety. The pathogenicity of Salmonella depends on a variety of virulence factors coded by genes in chromosomal pathogenicity islands (SPI) and plasmids. The antibiotic resistance and pathogenic potential of Salmonella have been studied extensively. However, there are gaps that still exist in our understanding of the relationship between resistance and virulence. In this study, we collected 117 Salmonella isolates from diseased chickens in Sichuan Province of China from 2019 to 2021, and investigated antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns, including extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) resistance, the prevalence and con-translation of ESBL and virulence genes, and sequence type (ST) among these isolates. The Salmonella isolates showed different frequencies of resistance to antimicrobials, 41.03% of which were ESBL-producers. ESBL genes, such as blaCTX-M-55 (63.29%), blaOXA-31 (26.58%), blaCTX-M-65 (20.25%), and blaTEM-1 (18.99%), were detected. Moreover, the 117 isolates had 11 virulence genes, with frequencies ranging from 29.06% to 100%. There were associations between resistance to cephalosporins and the ESBL genes. The blaCTX-M-55 showed the largest effect on the resistance and there was also a significant association between the presence of most virulence genes and ESBL genes. All isolates were divided into 11 types. The co-transfer of ESBL and virulence genes was observed in the plasmid conjugation test. From this study, we can conclude that Salmonella isolates from chicken were common carriers of ESBLs and multiple virulence genes, and the horizontal transfer played a key role in the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance and pathogenesis. Importantly, the interaction of resistance and virulence factors reinforces the marked pathogenic potential of Salmonella. The aim of this study was to explore the association between antimicrobial resistance, ESBL genes, and virulence genes of Salmonella isolates. From 2019 to 2021, a total of 117 Salmonella isolates were obtained from symptomatic chickens in Sichuan Province, China. The strains were tested for antimicrobial resistance and the presence of ESBL according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) instructions. The presence of ESBL genes and genes for virulence was determined using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). In addition, Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST) was applied to confirm the molecular genotyping. Moreover, the mechanism of ESBL and virulence gene transfer and the relationships between the resistance phenotype, ESBL genes, and virulence genes were explored. The isolates exhibited different frequencies of resistance to antibiotics (resistance rates ranged from 21.37% to 97.44%), whereas 68.38% and 41.03% of isolates were multi-drug resistance (MDR) and ESBL-producers, respectively. In the PCR analysis, blaCTX-M was the most prevalent ESBL genotype (73.42%, 58/79), and blaCTX-M-55 showed the most significant effect on the resistance to cephalosporins as tested by logistic regression analysis. Isolates showed a high carriage rate of invA, avrA, sopB, sopE, ssaQ, spvR, spvB, spvC, stn, and bcfC (ranged from 51.28% to 100%). MLST analysis revealed that the 117 isolates were divided into 11 types, mainly ST92, ST11, and ST3717. Of 48 ESBL-producers, 21 transconjugants were successfully obtained by conjugation. Furthermore, ESBL and spv virulence genes were obtained simultaneously in 15 transconjugants. These results highlighted that Salmonella isolates were common carriers of ESBLs and multiple virulence genes. Horizontal transfer played a key role in disseminating antimicrobial resistance and pathogenesis. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously monitor the use of antimicrobials and the prevalence of AMR and virulence in Salmonella from food animals and to improve the antibiotic stewardship for salmonellosis. The Paris Agreement aims to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with bioenergy identified as a potential solution. However, concerns remain about its impact on carbon stocks and the optimal timing for implementation. To address these challenges, we propose a comprehensive multi-objective optimization model for forest management that maximizes carbon sequestration and economic benefits. Our model integrates three key components: (1) a sophisticated carbon-sequestration model encompassing living plants, wood forest products, and soil and microbial carbon uptake, (2) dynamic factors such as forest fires and extreme weather events, and (3) an economic benefits model focused on wood-processing products. We optimized the forest-management strategy over ten years by leveraging the simulated annealing and Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) algorithms. Through simulations using data from China's Greater Khingan Mountains region, we explored the optimal logging plans for maximizing carbon sequestration without external factors. Our results revealed that the optimized logging plans significantly enhance carbon sequestration compared to proportionally averaged logging plans. Next, we investigated the impact of external factors on forest management, specifically wildfires and extreme weather events. Our findings demonstrate that wildfires have a more-substantial detrimental effect on the absolute value of carbon sequestration and the extent of improvement achieved through model optimization. At the same time, extreme cold primarily affects the growth rate of carbon sequestration. We employed a linear-weighting approach and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to address the trade-offs between carbon sequestration and economic benefits to transform the multi-objective optimization function into a single objective. The results showed that the optimized harvesting schedule can lead to improved economic benefits compared to uniformly harvesting trees. Moreover, the joint optimization approach enabled us to identify optimal solutions that balance carbon sequestration and economic benefits, offering sustainable forest management strategies. Measuring surface deformation is crucial for a better understanding of spatial-temporal evolution and the mechanism of mining-induced deformation, thus effectively assessing the mining-related geohazards, such as landslides or damage to surface infrastructures. This study proposes a method of retrieving surface deformation by combining multi-temporal digital surface models (DSMs) with image homonymous features using China's ZY-3 satellite stereo imagery. DSM is generated from three-line-array images of ZY-3 satellite using a rational function model (RFM) as the imaging geometric model. Then, elevation changes in deformation are extracted using the difference of DSMs acquired at different times, while planar displacements of deformation are calculated using image homonymous features extracted from multi-temporal digital orthographic maps (DOMs). Scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) points and line band descriptor (LBD) lines are selected as two kinds of salient features for image homonymous features generation. Cross profiles are also extracted for deformation in typical regions. Four sets of stereo imagery acquired in 2012 to 2022 are used for deformation extraction and analysis in the Fushun coalfield of China, where surface deformation is quite distinct and coupled with rising and descending elevation together. The results show that 21.60% of the surface in the study area was deformed from 2012 to 2017, while a decline from 2017 to 2022 meant that 17.19% of the surface was deformed with a 95% confidence interval. Moreover, the ratio of descending area was reduced to 6.44% between 2017 and 2022, which is lower than the ratios in other years. The slip deformation area in the west open pit mine is about 1.22 km2 and the displacement on the south slope is large, reaching an average of 26.89 m and sliding from south to north to the bottom of the pit between 2012 and 2017, but elevations are increased by an average of about 16.35 m, involving an area of about 0.86 km2 between 2017 and 2022 due to the restoration of the open pit. The results demonstrate that more quantitative features and specific surface deformation can be retrieved in mining areas by combining image features with DSMs derived from ZY-3 satellite stereo imagery. In order to realize the safe transportation of liquefied ethane pipeline in the Oilfield of China, it is necessary to fully study the process of pipeline replacement, operation and shutdown. The accurate calculation of physical property parameters and critical parameters is the basis of studying the gas-liquid two-phase flow and heat and mass transfer process of liquefied ethane in the pipeline. In this paper, different equations of states (EOSs) were used to predict the physical properties (such as density, dew point and dynamic viscosity) of ethane or ethane mixture, and the predicted results were compared with the corresponding experimental data from the literature. The prediction performance of different EOSs were evaluated by using two evaluation indicators, including average absolute deviation (AAD) and average relative deviation (ARD). The results showed that the PR-Peneloux EOS has the best performance for predicting the density of CH4-C2H6-N2 mixture with an ARD value of 4.46%; for predicting the dew point, the BWRS EOS exhibits the superior performance with an ARD value of 0.58%; and for predicting dynamic viscosity, the SuperTRAPP formula has the smallest calculation error, with an ARD value of 1.33%. Considering the comparison results of the calculation accuracy of density, dew point and dynamic viscosity of ethane or ethane mixture by using different EOSs, PR-Peneloux EOS was recommended to calculate the phase characteristics in the process of ethane pipeline replacement operation. Fungi of the order Boletales are extremely important in both ecology and economy, since most of them are ectomycorrhizal fungi, which play vital roles in maintaining forest ecosystems, water and soil protection, vegetation restoration and so on. Although previous studies have shown that this order has a very high species diversity in China, there are few reports on the species diversity of boletes in Jiangxi Province, China. Based on morphological (macroscopic and microscopic morphological characteristics) and phylogenetic analyses (ITS, LSU, and TEF1-α sequences), in this study, the wild boletes in Jiangxi Province were investigated, and five new species are described: Austroboletus albus, Xanthoconium violaceipes, Xanthoconium violaceofuscum, Xerocomus rutilans and Xerocomus subsplendidus. Thinning plays a vital role in controlling stand density of plantation forests to get quality wood and more ecological function. However, the specific effects of thinning on forest biomass connected with forest age are usually overlooked especially in semi-arid regions. Here, we examined the effects of thinning on individual tree growth and stand biomass in a chronosequence of 20-, 30-, 40-, and 50-year-old Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis) plantations on the Loess Plateau, China. We found that under different thinning managements, both mean diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree height followed the logistic growth pattern, and thinning promoted tree radial growth more than height. The effects of thinning on tree biomass differed between the individual tree and stand level. Thinning could promote individual tree biomass irrespective of stand ages, while stand biomass did not differ between the thinned and unthinned stands at different stand ages. Furthermore, the multiple linear regression analysis and structure equation model showed that individual tree growth was the primary contributor of stand biomass. Thus, we infer that the stand biomass loss after thinning could be mainly compensated by enhanced tree growth, especially radial growth, after a period of recovery (no more than 20 years). The results could provide helpful guidance for forest management and highlighted that reasonable thinning treatment could result in both high individual tree product and stand level harvests in the long term. The Yellow River Source National Park (YRSNP), one of largest alpine wetlands in China which serves as the origin of the Yellow River, is situated in the heart of the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. The alpine wetland ecosystem, which is its primary ecological system, is crucial for maintaining ecological balance, preserving biodiversity, and facilitating the sustainable development of the Yellow River Basin. In this study, based on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform combined with Landsat 5 7 8 remote sensing images, we used a random forest classification model to identify and classify the alpine wetland from 2000 to 2020 and analyze its pattern of dynamic changes. The main driving forces that drive the change of the alpine wetland area in the YRSNP from 2000 to 2020 are identified using a random forest regression analysis in combination with data on precipitation, temperature, potential evapotranspiration, soil moisture, and population density. The results show that: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the average overall accuracy of remote sensing classification and extraction of the YRSNP alpine wetlands is 0.8492 and the Kappa coefficient is 0.8051. (2) From 2000 to 2020, the shrinking trend of the YRSNP alpine wetland area is restrained. However, the lake wetland, marsh wetland, and marsh meadow all increase by 0.58%, 0.06%, and 3.34%, respectively, whereas the river wetland shows a declining trend. (3) The results of the identification of driving forces indicate that soil moisture is the main factor influencing the dynamic changes of the alpine wetland, although the decline in population density has a favorable impact on the alpine wetland. The stability of soil organic matter (SOM) plays a critical role in soil carbon (C) dynamics under global warming. However, the factors influencing SOM stability, particularly the significance of bedrock geochemistry and its hierarchical relationship with climate and soil properties, remain poorly understood. To address this gap, we conducted a study along a large climatic gradient (Δtemperature > 9 °C) in the subtropical karst forests of southwest China, quantifying SOM stability using thermal analysis and investigating the contributions of bedrock geochemistry, climate, and soil properties. Our results showed that SOM stability was positively correlated with mineral-associated organic C (MAOC) rather than particulate organic C. Hierarchical partitioning analysis further demonstrated that bedrock geochemistry was the predominant contributor to SOM stability variance, accounting for 23.7%. Following this, soil minerals contributed to 21.1%–22.6% of the variance, the mean annual temperature to 20.3%, and microbial biomass C to 17.2%. In particular, bedrock geochemistry—specifically the presence of calcium-rich bedrock—was found to enhance SOM stability by promoting the accumulation of exchangeable calcium and calcium carbonate in soils. Additionally, high temperature improved SOM stability by increasing the content and proportion of MAOC and soil pH. These results highlight the fundamental role of bedrock geochemistry in controlling SOM stability and emphasize the importance of considering hierarchical relationships among bedrock–soil–climate interactions for evaluating soil C dynamics. The development of drug-resistance in the opportunistic pathogen Escherichia coli has become a global public health concern. Due to the share of similar flora between pets and their owners, the detection of pet-origin antibiotic-resistant E. coli is necessary. This study aimed to detect the prevalence of feline-origin ESBL E. coli in China and to explore the resistance elimination effect of garlic oil to cefquinome on ESBL E. coli. Cat fecal samples were collected from animal hospitals. The E. coli isolates were separated and purified by indicator media and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). ESBL genes were detected by PCR and Sanger sequencing. The MICs were determined. The synergistic effect of garlic oil and cefquinome against ESBL E. coli was investigated by checkerboard assays, time-kill and growth curves, drug-resistance curves, PI and NPN staining, and a scanning electronic microscope. A total of 80 E. coli strains were isolated from 101 fecal samples. The rate of ESBL E. coli was 52.5% (42/80). The prevailing ESBL genotypes in China were CTX-M-1, CTX-M-14, and TEM-116. In ESBL E. coli, garlic oil increased the susceptibility to cefquinome with FICIs from 0.2 to 0.7 and enhanced the killing effect of cefquinome with membrane destruction. Resistance to cefquinome decreased with treatment of garlic oil after 15 generations. Our study indicates that ESBL E. coli has been detected in cats kept as pets. The sensitivity of ESBL E. coli to cefquinome was enhanced by garlic oil, indicating that garlic oil may be a potential antibiotic enhancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the past few decades, human activities have caused the emission of large amounts of carbon dioxide, which has severely impacted the Earth's ecosystem and human health. Therefore, carbon reduction has become the focus of global attention. In this study, the Zhouyuan region of China, which is rich in ancient remains, is taken as an example. Based on the land use characteristics in 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020, the spatial-temporal evolution of land use and carbon storage in the Zhouyuan region is simulated using four methods, including land use classification, land use transfer maps, patch-level land-use simulation (PLUS), and the integrated valuation of ecosystem services and trade-offs (InVEST) models under three scenarios, including the natural development scenario, urban development priority, and heritage conservation priority in 2030. According to the results, the carbon storage in the area in 2030 under all three scenario simulations has decreased compared with 2020, indicating that the region faces great challenges in achieving its targets of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. The paper points out four causes for the decrease in carbon storage, and five suggestions for increasing carbon storage are proposed, such as developing a carbon storage master plan, applying energy-saving technologies, establishing an ecological substitution mechanism, and so on. Through the study of carbon storage in the Zhouyuan region, this paper hopes to establish a mechanism to balance urban development, heritage conservation, and carbon sinks on the one hand, and encourage more scholars to participate in the study of carbon sinks in areas rich in ancient remains, so as to to jointly promote their healthy development on the other. Hepatitis B (HB) vaccination is recommended for people with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). We aimed to assess the immune response to the HB vaccine and associated factors using the standard vaccination schedule among people with HIV (PWH) in China. A prospective study was carried out from 2016 to 2020 in Beijing, China. PWH were given three 20 μg doses of recombinant HB vaccine at 0, 1, and 6 months. Blood samples were taken within 4–6 weeks after each dose to evaluate the anti-HBs levels. A total of 312 participants completed vaccination and serologic testing. The seroconversion (anti-HBs ≥ 10 IU/L) rates following the first, second, and third doses of the vaccine were 35.6% (95% CI: 30.3–40.9%), 55.1% (95% CI: 49.6–60.7%), and 86.5% (95% CI: 82.8–90.3%), respectively, and the geometric means of the anti-HBs titers were 0.8 IU/L (95% CI: 0.5–1.6 IU/L), 15.7 IU/L (95% CI: 9.4–26.3 IU/L), and 241.0 IU/L (95% CI: 170.3–341.1 IU/L), respectively. In multivariate analysis, after three doses of vaccination, age, CD4 cell count, and HIV-RNA viral load were significantly associated with strong, moderate, and weak response, respectively. These findings confirm that these personal health conditions are related to the HB response. HB vaccination in PWH using the standard schedule was still highly effective in the context of early treatment initiation, especially among participants aged 30 years and younger. The Hexi Corridor is an arid region in northwestern China, where hypoliths are widely distributed, resulting from large amounts of translucent stone pavements. In this region, the water and heat distributions are uneven, with a descent gradient from east to west, which can affect the area's biological composition. The impact of environmental heterogeneity on the distribution of hypolithic microbial communities in this area is poorly understood, and this is an ideal location to investigate the factors that may influence the composition and structure of hypolithic microbial communities. An investigation of different sites with differences in precipitation between east and west revealed that the colonization rate decreased from 91.8% to 17.5% in the hypolithic community. Environmental heterogeneity influenced both the structure and function of the hypolithic community, especially total nitrogen (TN) and soil organic carbon (SOC). However, the effect on taxonomic composition was greater than that on ecological function. The dominant bacterial phyla in all sample sites were Cyanobacteria, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Deinococcus-Thermus, but the abundances varied significantly between the sampling sites. The eastern site had the highest relative abundance of Proteobacteria (18.43%) and Bacteroidetes (6.32%), while the western site had a higher relative abundance in the phyla Cyanobacteria (62%) and Firmicutes (1.45%); the middle site had a higher relative abundance of Chloroflexi (8.02%) and Gemmatimonadetes (1.87%). The dominant phylum in the fungal community is Ascomycota. Pearson correlation analysis showed that the soil's physicochemical properties were also associated with changes in community diversity at the sample sites. Global excessive CO2 emissions have caused serious environmental and health problems, such as global warming, melting glaciers, droughts, floods, and extreme temperatures, and have become a common challenge for the world. China has set a dual carbon goal, with the peak carbon emissions before 2030. In China, the building sector accounts for 50.9% of the country's carbon emissions. In particular, public buildings are characterized by a high carbon emission intensity, accounting for 38.6% of carbon emissions in the building sector, which affects the achievement of the dual carbon goal in China's building sector. Establishing a reasonable baseline of carbon emissions contributes to quota management and trading of carbon emissions for public buildings in Tianjin, China, and will ultimately contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions. This study investigates the operational energy consumption and carbon emissions of 721 public buildings in Tianjin (including electricity, natural gas, and district heating). The applicability of the Quartile method and the K-means clustering algorithm was compared to determine the carbon emission baseline of different types of public buildings, such as constraint value, guiding value, and advanced value, based on which the dynamic baseline from 2022 to 2030 was determined. The results show that the advanced value, guiding value, and constraint value of the Tianjin public building carbon emission baseline obtained using the Quartile method are more reasonable than those obtained by the K-means clustering algorithm. Furthermore, the carbon emission baseline in 2030 will be reduced by 3.4~9.2% compared to 2022. Selenium (Se) is a beneficial microelement for humans, and its varying abundances and shortages have attracted widespread concern. The accumulation process of soil Se is quite complicated, being controlled by multiple factors. However, the influence mechanism of soil properties, climate, and topographic conditions on Se distribution is still unclear in Se-deficient areas. For this study, we collected 2804 samples from cropland soil to assess the levels of Se and the factors that influence those levels in Se-deficient areas of southwestern China. The Se content in this area (0.17 mg/kg) was less than the mean value of China as a whole (0.29 mg/kg). Moran's I index and a random forest (RF) model showed that higher Se levels were mostly observed in the southern and northern sections of the area we studied. The RF model had excellent performance in predicting soil Se content, with an accuracy of 64%. The use of Shapley additive explanations indicated that soil organic matter (SOM) and mean annual precipitation (MAP) were the critical factors determining Se distribution. The geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most suitable option to achieve a large-scale and low-cost CO2 emissions worldwide, but the selection of favorable areas for the geological storage is the main issue. In this study, evaluation indicators were selected considering four aspects, namely geological conditions, storage potential, hydrogeological conditions, and engineering conditions, based on drilling, geophysical, and geochemical data from the Beibu Gulf Basin. The analytical hierarchy process and the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method were used to evaluate the suitability of this basin for geological storage of CO2. The results suggested that: (1) the Beibu Gulf Basin is suitable for CO2 geological storage, and the evaluation grade is the highest rating level; (2) considering the techno-economic feasibility, it is necessary to select the target area for CO2 geological storage with suitable burial depth, superior reservoir conditions, proximity to the CO2 collection device, and a high degree of exploration. To explore No. 12a LND noncompliance's effect on long-term prognosis in GC patients after D2 gastrectomy, we performed a retrospective propensity score matching study with 2788 patients included. The results showed that patients with No. 12a LND had a significantly greater OS than those without it before and after PSM. This study is the first propensity score matching study to demonstrate the prognostic impact of No. 12a LND noncompliance on patients who undergo D2 gastrectomy. This large population-based study may provide guidance on No. 12a LND. LN dissection is essential for accurately staging and improving GC patient prognosis. However, the compliance rate for No. 12a LND in practice is low, and its necessity is controversial. Data from GC patients who underwent total gastrectomy (TG)/distal gastrectomy (DG) plus D2 lymphadenectomy between January 2000 and December 2017 at West China Hospital, Sichuan University were reviewed. No. 12a LND noncompliance's effect on the long-term prognosis of patients with GC after D2 gastrectomy was explored. Of the 2788 patients included, No. 12a LND noncompliance occurred in 1753 patients (62.9%). Among 1035 patients with assessable LNs from station 12a, 98 (9.5%) had positive LNs detected at station 12a. No. 12a LN metastasis patients (stage IV not included) had significantly better overall survival (OS) than TNM stage IV patients (p = 0.006). Patients with No. 12a LND compliance had a significantly higher OS than those without, both before (p < 0.001) and after (p < 0.001) PSM. Cox multivariate analysis confirmed that No. 12a LND noncompliance was an independent prognostic factor before (HR 1.323, 95% CI 1.171–1.496, p < 0.001) and after (HR 1.353, 95% CI 1.173–1.560, p < 0.001) PSM. Recent discoveries of oil and gas have principally been located in the central part of the Ordos Basin, which is a petroliferous basin with the largest discovered reserves and annual production of tight sandstone gas in China. For tight sandstone gas reservoirs in the transition zone of the basin margin, the process of natural gas accumulation has remained relatively vaguely understood, because of the transitional accumulation of geological conditions such as structure, sedimentation, and preservation. In this study, thin-section identification and scanning electron microscopic observations of the reservoir core, measurement of the physical properties of the reservoir, microscopic petrography research and measurement of the homogenization temperature of fluid inclusions, digital simulations, and laser Raman spectroscopy analysis were combined to analyze the process of natural gas accumulation of the Permian Lower Shihezi Formation in Duguijiahan block, Hangjinqi area, northern Ordos Basin. The results showed that the Lower Shihezi Formation reservoir in the Duguijiahan block began gas charging in the southern part as early as the Early Cretaceous (130–128 Ma), and then gradually charged in the northern part. Three stages were identified in the digital simulations of gas charging, i.e., the breakthrough, rapid, and fully saturated stages. The initial porosity of the Lower Shihezi Formation reservoir ranged between 28% and 40%. Later, because of strong compaction and interstitial filling during burial, the sandstone porosity decreased rapidly, and densification (porosity < 10%) occurred in the mid–late Jurassic. This late tectonic uplift caused a continuous reduction in ground temperature, and diagenesis had a weak effect on pore transformation. The present porosity of the Lower Shihezi Formation reservoir basically inherited its characteristics in the late Early Cretaceous. The current average porosity of the reservoir is 8.58%, and the average permeability is 0.88 mD, and it can thus be characterized as a tight reservoir. The gas accumulation process of the Lower Shihezi Formation has three stages: (1) the depositional stage (C–P), corresponding to the depositional stage of the source-reservoir-cap combination in gas reservoir; (2) the natural gas accumulation stage (T–K1), corresponding to the period of rapid source rock maturation and natural gas charging step-by-step; and (3) the gas reservoir adjustment stage (K2–present), corresponding to the period of uplift and natural gas charging in the early stage that gradually migrated and accumulated northward along the fracture zone. Seeds are important for the preservation and reproduction of wild tulips in situ, but only a few studies have been carried out on their seed morphology and germination characteristics. In this study, the eight wild tulip species native to China were used. Their seed morphology and superficial ornamentation, the relationship between seed morphology and germination, and the effects of manipulating incubation temperature, seed coat, and gibberellin (GA3) application were studied. The seeds are diverse in shape, size, color, weight, and superficial ornamentation, as observed by stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Tulipa edulis (Miq.) Baker had a half-moon-shaped seed with the embryo invisible and irregular striped ornamentation, which was different from the other seven species that had sector-shaped seeds with the embryo visible and irregular reticulate ornamentation. Especially, the muri feature and the decorative pattern in meshes were highly variable and decisive at both section and species levels of Tulipa L. We also classified the seed dormancy type of the eight wild tulip species as nondeep complex (MPD). Embryo length, embryo/seed length ratio, and seed coat color were correlated with germination (T50), while the T50 of eight wild tulip species was still mainly affected by optimized temperatures of 4 °C and/or 4/16 °C. Gibberellin (GA3) has a positive regulating effect on the T50 of tulip species, and 100 μM gibberellin was considered the most effective concentration. These results highlight the taxonomic significance of the genus Tulipa based on seed testa morphology, and we support the notion that T. edulis should be regarded as an independent genus—Amana. Meanwhile, our study provided a way that the seed germination of wild tulip species could be shortened within 2 months under the experimental conditions, which will help to rapidly multiply and utilize wild tulip resources. Lithology has such an important effect on the sustainability of soil carbon (C) pools. Forests are an important part of terrestrial C sinks; yet, it is unclear whether their soil carbon sensitivity to temperature changes is regulated by lithology, especially in karst ecosystems, which are widely distributed globally. Along a climate gradient in the subtropical region of southwest China, we compared the contents of soil organic C (SOC) and total N (TN) in karst and non-karst forests. The data were analyzed and processed using ANOVA, regression analysis, and random forest. The results showed that the karst forests had significantly higher SOC and TN contents but lower ratio of SOC to TN (C:N) than non-karst forests, mainly because of the higher soil calcium (Ca) content and microbial biomass. With rising mean annual temperature (MAT), SOC and TN contents in non-karst forests significantly decreased, whereas in karst forests they were not correlated with MAT; while, the opposite was true for C:N. In karst forests, soil Ca constrain warming induced decomposition of SOC and TN by forming stable complexes with SOM through exchangeable Ca, and by promoting aggregate stability through the role of calcium carbonate. The correlation between δ13C and the logarithm of SOC concentration also supported that conclusion. In karst forests compared to non-karst forests, soil C pools are larger and less sensitive to regional temperature change. Nevertheless, climate warming may still accelerate soil C loss in karst forests by increasing microbial C limitation. Thus, soil C sequestration potential and loss risk coexist in karst areas. The ratio of SOC to TN (C:N) is regulated through appropriate management measures in the process of karst vegetation restoration, thus promoting long-term stable sequestration of soil carbon pools. Cadmium contamination and toxicity on plants and human health is a major problem in China. Safe rice production in Cd-contaminated alkaline soils, with acceptably low Cd levels and high yields, remains an important research challenge. To achieve this, a small-scale field experiment with seven different soil amendment materials was conducted to test their effects performance. Two best-performing materials were selected for the large-scale field experiment. Combinations of humic acid, foliar, and/or soil silicon fertilization and deep or shallow plowing were designed. It was found that the combination, including humic acid, soil and foliar silicate fertilization, and shallow plowing (5–10 cm), produced the most desirable results (the lowest soil bioavailable Cd, the lowest grain Cd concentrations, and the highest grain yield). Simple Summary: The aim of this study was to perform whole-genome resequencing on Wanbei pigs and combine its data with Asian wild boar sequencing data to assess their population structure and selection signatures. Genomic information may play a vital role in improving conservation strategies. Wanbei pig (WBP) is one of the indigenous pig resources in China and has many germplasm characteristics. However, research on its genome is lacking. To assess the genomic variation, population structure, and selection signatures, we resequenced 18 WBP for the first time and performed a comprehensive analysis with resequenced data of 10 Asian wild boars. In total, 590.03 Gb of data and approximately 41 million variants were obtained. Polymorphism level (θπ) ratio and genetic differentiation (fixation index)-based cross approaches were applied, and 539 regions, which harbored 176 genes, were selected. Functional analysis of the selected genes revealed that they were associated with lipid metabolism (SCP2, APOA1, APOA4, APOC3, CD36, BCL6, ADCY8), backfat thickness (PLAG1, CACNA2D1), muscle (MYOG), and reproduction (CABS1). Simple Summary: Perineural invasion (PNI) is present in 17–75% of prostate cancer patients and is an important mechanism for cancer progression, leading to poor prognoses. An optimized preoperative technique is needed to detect PNI in prostate cancer patients and administer the best treatment. The aim of our retrospective study was to develop a model based on high-throughput radiomic features of bi-parametric MRI combined with clinical factors that can predict PNI status in high-grade prostate cancers. In total, 183 high-grade PCa patients were included in this retrospective study, and the radiomics model based on 13 selected features of bi-parametric MRI showed better discrimination than did the conventional model in the test cohort (area under the curve (AUC): 0.908). Discrimination efficiency improved when the radiomics and clinical models were combined (AUC: 0.947). This improved model may help predict PNI in prostate cancer patients and allow more personalized clinical decision-making. Purpose: To explore the role of bi-parametric MRI radiomics features in identifying PNI in high-grade PCa and to further develop a combined nomogram with clinical information. Methods: 183 high-grade PCa patients were included in this retrospective study. Tumor regions of interest (ROIs) were manually delineated on T2WI and DWI images. Radiomics features were extracted from lesion area segmented images obtained. Univariate logistic regression analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method were used for feature selection. A clinical model, a radiomics model, and a combined model were developed to predict PNI positive. Predictive performance was estimated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, calibration curves, and decision curves. Results: The differential diagnostic efficiency of the clinical model had no statistical difference compared with the radiomics model (area under the curve (AUC) values were 0.766 and 0.823 in the train and test group, respectively). The radiomics model showed better discrimination in both the train cohort and test cohort (train AUC: 0.879 and test AUC: 0.908) than each subcategory image (T2WI train AUC: 0.813 and test AUC: 0.827; DWI train AUC: 0.749 and test AUC: 0.734). The discrimination efficiency improved when combining the radiomics and clinical models (train AUC: 0.906 and test AUC: 0.947). A very common and early named mayfly species from China, Heptagenia ngi Hsu, 1936, has no exact descriptions of its imago nor nymph, so its generic status is not clear. Based on detailed re-descriptions and pictures of all its stages from fresh materials, it is transferred into a new genus Maculogenia Zhou, gen. nov. Its nymph has conspicuous pale-dark colored body, slightly concave posterior margin of head, scattered simple setae on ventral maxillae, spines and very fine hair-like setae on caudal filaments. Similarly, its imago also has remarkable dark stripes and dots on the pale body, small median titillators and short first segment of foretarsi, apically expanded penes without any spines. Since the advent of the Internet has changed how risk information develops and disseminates, citizens' risk perception alters correspondingly. Although extant studies have explored the impacts of Internet use on citizens, only a few have focused on citizens' perception of social safety exclusively. This study examined the effect of Internet use and Internet use frequency on citizens' perception of social safety with 2017 China Social Survey data. It found that Internet use and Internet use frequency have a significant negative impact on citizens' social safety perception. Compared to non-users, the probability of perceiving society as very safe decreases significantly by 2.3% for Internet users. Subsequently, this study avoided the endogeneity issues by employing the Bioprobit and CMP methods, and the robustness check adopted propensity score matching methods. In general, it supported results in benchmark regression. The heterogeneity analysis indicated that Internet use had a higher negative impact on citizens in the western region, rural household registration, and middle-aged groups. It suggests that the establishment of a comprehensive mechanism to regulate online information involving governments, Internet industrial organizations, and Internet users may improve governance effectiveness. Japanese Ardisia is widely used as a hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory agent in China. However, the active ingredients in Japanese Ardisia and their potential mechanisms of action in the treatment of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) are unknown. The pharmacodynamic substance and mechanism of action of Japanese Ardisia in the treatment of AIH were investigated using network pharmacology and molecular docking technology in this study. Following that, the effects of Japanese Ardisia were evaluated using the concanavalin A (Con A)-induced acute liver injury rat model. The active ingredients and targets of Japanese Ardisia were searched using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database, and hepatitis-related therapeutic targets were identified through GeneCards and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man databases. A compound–target network was then constructed using Cytoscape software, and enrichment analysis was performed using gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases. Molecular docking technology was used to simulate the docking of key targets, and the AIH rat model was used to validate the expression of key targets. Nineteen active chemical components and 143 key target genes were identified. GO enrichment analysis revealed that the treatment of AIH with Japanese Ardisia mainly involved DNA–binding transcription factor binding, RNA polymerase II-specific DNA transcription factor binding, cytokine receptor binding, receptor-ligand activity, ubiquitin-like protein ligase binding, and cytokine activity. In the KEGG enrichment analysis, 165 pathways were identified, including the lipid and atherosclerotic pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, hepatitis B pathway, and the AGE–RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications. These pathways may be the key to effective AIH treatment with Japanese Ardisia. Molecular docking showed that quercetin and kaempferol have good binding to AKT1, IL6, VEGFA, and CASP3. Animal experiments demonstrated that Japanese Ardisia could increase the expression of AKT1 and decrease the expression of CASP3 protein, as well as IL-6, in rat liver tissues. This study identified multiple molecular targets and pathways for Japanese Ardisia in the treatment of AIH. Metamorphic core complexes are developed in crustal activity belts at the continental margins or within continents, and their main tectonic feature is that the ductile middle crust is exhumed at the surface. The deformation properties are closely related to the geodynamic process affecting the continental crust. However, the evolution of the metamorphic core complexes after their formation is still unclear. The Cretaceous Liaonan metamorphic core complex developed in the eastern North China craton provides an ideal environment to study its evolution. In this study, we estimate the paleo-temperature and paleo-stress at the time of formation of the metamorphic core complex dynamical recrystallization of quartz and calculate the thermo-rheological structure of the present Liaonan metamorphic core complex by one-dimensional steady-state heat conduction equation and power-creep law. The results show that compared with the Cretaceous period, the geothermal heat flow value of the present Liaonan metamorphic core complex decreases from 70–80 mW/m2 to 49.4 mW/m2, the thermal lithosphere thickness increases from 59–75 km to 173 km, and the brittle transition depth increases from 10–13 km to about 70 km, showing coupling of the crust–mantle rheological structure. We speculate that the evolution of the thermo-rheological structure of the Liaonan metamorphic core complex is possibly caused by rapid heat loss or lithospheric mantle flow in the Bohai Bay Basin. In an estuary, stratification processes play a major role in inhibiting estuarine circulation, sediment transport, and the estuarine ecosystem. A detailed examination of the salinity stratification through the gradient Richardson number and the potential energy anomaly equation has been undertaken along the West Channel of the Pearl River Estuary, China. The results show that the estuarine circulation within the West Channel is much weaker on a spring tide than that on a neap tide, exhibiting apparent spring–neap tidal variability. The calculated gradient Richardson number displays its intratidal and spring–neap tidal variability within the West Channel, indicating the existence of intratidal and spring–neap tidal variability of stratification. In addition, the tidally averaged change rate of total potential energy anomaly within the West Channel suggests more than a 4.53 × 10−3 W·m−3 increase from spring to neap tides, demonstrating strong stratification on a neap tide. The longitudinal advection and the longitudinal depth-mean straining are the leading physical mechanisms contributing to intratidal and spring–neap variability of salinity stratification within the West Channel. Geothermal heating is considered to be one of the low-carbon-energy technologies for building heating. Aiming at the problem that the operating cost and investment cost of geothermal heating systems are still high, the conventional geothermal heating system coupled with energy storage for office building heating is studied in this paper. Four operational strategy models of the coupled system are established based on time-of-use electricity prices. A genetic algorithm is used to find the optimal value of each decision variable using minimization of levelized cost of heat (LCOH) as the objective function. The influences of electricity and equipment prices on the optimal values of the decision variables are discussed. Four operation strategies are investigated. If only operating cost is considered in the optimization, comparison shows that the best operation strategy is the one giving high priority to use the energy storage tank for heating during the peak electricity period. However, if the investment cost is further considered in the optimization, the best operation strategy is the one using the energy storage tank for heat load peak-regulating. In addition, based on the minimization of LCOH, an optimal energy storage ratio is found for each scenario, and suitable conditions of using energy storage tank are discussed. The geothermal heating system coupled with energy storage can have a good performance when the peak-valley electricity price difference is higher than CNY 0.566/kW·h (USD 0.0847/kW·h)+ or the energy storage tank price is lower than CNY 900/m3 (USD 134.64/m3). The results obtained from this study prove that the cost of geothermal heating systems can be effectively reduced by choosing an optimal operation strategy and using an energy storage device with an optimal energy storage ratio. Pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is a worldwide pest of pine trees, spreading at an alarming rate and with great ecological adaptability. In the process of causing disease, the nematode causes metabolic disorders and changes in the endophytic microbial community of the pine tree. However, the changes at the pine nidus during early nematode invasion have not been well studied, especially the differential metabolites, in Pinus massoniana, the main host of B. xylophilus in China. In this study, we analyzed the endophytic bacterial and fungal communities associated with healthy and B. xylophilus-caused wilted pine trees. The results show that 1333 bacterial OTUs and 502 fungal OTUs were annotated from P. massoniana stem samples. The abundance of bacterial communities in pine trees varies more following infection by B. xylophilus, but the abundance changes of fungal communities are less visible. There were significant differences in endophytic microbial diversity between wilted and healthy P. massoniana. In wilted pine trees, Actinobacteria and Bacteroidia were differential indicators of bacterial communities, whereas, in healthy pine trees, Rhizobiales in the Proteobacteria phylum were the major markers of bacterial communities. Meanwhile, the differential markers of fungal communities in healthy pines are Malasseziales, Tremellales, Sordariales, and Fusarium, whereas Pleosporaceae is the key marker of fungal communities in wilted pines. Our study examines the effect of changes in the endophytic microbial community on the health of pine trees that may be caused by B. xylophilus infection. In parallel, a non-targeted metabolomic study based on liquid mass spectrometry (LC-MS) technology was conducted on pine trees inoculated with pine nematodes and healthy pine trees with a view to identifying key compounds affecting early pine lesions. Ultimately, 307 distinctly different metabolites were identified. Sweet cherry is an important fruit crop in China with a high economic value. From 2019 to 2020, a leaf spot disease was reported, with purplish-brown circular lesions in three cultivating regions in China. Twenty-four Fusarium isolates were obtained from diseased samples and were identified based on morphological characteristics and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses. Seven species, including F. luffae (7 isolates), F. lateritium (6 isolates), F. compactum (5 isolates), F. nygamai (2 isolates), F. citri (2 isolates), F. ipomoeae (1 isolate) and F. curvatum (1 isolate) were identified. The pathogenicity test showed that analyzed strains of all species could produce lesions on detached cherry leaves. Therefore, Fusarium was proved to be a pathogen of cherry leaf spots in China. This is the first report of F. luffae, F. compactum, F. nygamai, F. citri, F. ipomoeae and F. curvatum on sweet cherry in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Taoxi dome stands out as a rotated-circular structure on maps of the Wuyi terrane, south China. The origin and tectonic activity analysis of the Taoxi dome is a window to understand the tectonic framework and aggregation process of the Wuyi terranes in the Cathaysia block. Our field observations demonstrated that two major phases of deformation, counterclockwise rotation and dome uplift, were recorded in the Taoxi dome. Geochronological data indicated that the counterclockwise rotation was initiated at about 422 Ma as a result of a sinistral slide collision between the North Wuyi terrane and the South Wuyi terrane along the Nanping–Ninghua tectonic belt during the Caledonian. Zircon dating ages of the intrusions developed in the Taoxi dome suggested that the Taoxi dome had undergone at least two strong upheavals and the uplift of the Taoxi dome was active during the periods 229–222 Ma and 158–100 Ma. Geochemical data indicated that the intrusions developed in the Taoxi dome had characteristics of high silica (SiO2 > 70 wt.%) and belonged to the A2-type granites, which suggest that the Taoxi dome was long governed by a tectonic setting of post-collisional or anorogenic magmatism since the Caledonian. The strong movement of the Caledonian rotation and coeval strike-slip movement in the Wuyi terranes suggests that a slide rotation may have been a major characteristic in response to the rifting process of micro-terranes during the late Paleozoic in the Cathaysia block. The existing knowledge illustrated the role of surrounding mountains in the transportation of dust into a basin, including the blocking of low-layer dust and the allowance of elevated dust intrusion. Taking the Sichuan Basin in southwestern China as an example, we found the impact of clouds on the transportation process of dust in the basin area. If there were low-level clouds on the basin edges, the dust particles could not penetrate the cloud layers, but settled down from upper air into the basin in the cloudless regions. They could be transported beneath clouds in the basin. Considering that the upslope airflow accompanied by dust transportation was conducive to the low-level clouds on the basin edge, this mechanism further reduced the dust intrusion besides the shelter of the surrounding mountains.
