I Guest Editor i Graph Preface The First International Conference on Nanofluids (ICNF2019) together with the second European Symposium on Nanofluids (ESNF2019) [[1]] was held at the Universitat Jaume I, Castello, Spain, during June 26-28, 2019. Then they varied the nanoparticle concentration distribution at the inlet and found that the temperature field in the fluid and in the pipe depends strongly on the nanoparticle concentration distribution. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were also used to characterize the synthesized nanoparticles. [Extracted from the article]

The International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC) is a biannual conference that was held in Kyoto, Japan for its 25th edition. The conference, which was originally scheduled for 2021 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, welcomed 563 attendees from 35 countries. A total of 465 oral and poster presentations were delivered, covering various scientific and application topics. The conference also awarded the Plasma Chemistry Award to Dr. Anthony Murphy and Dr. Francoise Massines for their lifetime achievements in the field. I will comment on the comments by the groups of three reviewers separately. First of all, I will thank all three groups providing a first round of reports in order for me to get rid of obvious mistakes. In the second round the reviewers were free to comment on the qualities of my revised version. I am not to change my revised paper when giving my comments on what would be honest reports on the quality of my final version. However, the reviewers will not have a go at my rejoinders to comments according to the symposium rules. In this contribution, I defend the standard list of jus ad bellum principles. In The Ethics of War and the Force of Law: A Modern Just War Theory, Uwe Steinhoff endorses only three principles of jus ad bellum (right intention, just cause, and proportionality) and claims that the others are redundant. I argue that, although fundamentally all jus ad bellum principles can be reduced to proportionality, in practice it is vital to retain the main jus ad bellum criteria as separate principles. This document is a summary of selected topics from the 29th International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems (ICDERS) held in Siheung, Korea in July 2023. The conference focused on the dynamic aspects of reactive systems and included presentations on explosions, detonations, ignition, turbulent combustion, and other topics in combustion. The current issue of the journal Shock Waves includes ten papers that were presented at the conference, covering areas such as shock tube design, shock wave methane pyrolysis, detonation physics, and rotating detonation engine propulsion systems. Objective: To determine journal publication rates of scientific papers presented orally at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2010, with comparison of country data to ECR 2000. Methods: All oral presentations from ECR 2010 were evaluated for publication between 2010 and 2014 using the MEDLINE database. Countries, collaborations, subspecialties, modalities and study design were ranked by publication percentage. Chi-square tests were used to compare publication percentages for each category of variables. Hazard ratios (HR) were calculated for each country relative to the host nation, Austria. ECR 2010 country statistics were compared with analogous data from ECR 2000. Results: In total, 360/840 abstracts were subsequently published (43 %). The author's country of origin ( p = 0.02), subspecialty ( p = 0.02) and study design ( p = 0.001) were significantly associated with subsequent publication. Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Germany were among the top six countries by publication percentage in 2000 and 2010. In 2010, Switzerland had the highest publication rate (62 %) and HR in comparison to Austria (HR 2.62 [1.31-5.25], p = 0.01). Three Asian nations increased relative publication rates over the 10-year period. Conclusion: Several European nations consistently convert relatively high percentages of oral abstracts at ECR into publications, and the influence of Asian countries is increasing. Main Messages: • Certain European nations consistently publish high percentages of orally presented abstracts at ECR. • The influence of several Asian countries on ECR is increasing. • Country, subspecialty and study design are significantly associated with journal publication. • Authors collaborating internationally have the highest publication rates and mean impact factors. • Among all modalities, PET-CT, MRI and CT have the highest publication percentages. The 8th biennial national conference of the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers (APAHC) was held in Detroit, MI, March 9-11, 2017. Refereed conferences require every submission to be reviewed by members of a program committee (PC) in charge of selecting the conference program. There are many software packages available to manage the review process. Typically, in a bidding phase PC members express their personal preferences by ranking the submissions. This information is used by the system to compute an assignment of the papers to referees (PC members). We study the problem of assigning papers to referees. We propose to optimize a number of criteria that aim at achieving fairness among referees/papers. Some of these variants can be solved optimally in polynomial time, while others are NP-hard, in which case we design approximation algorithms. Experimental results strongly suggest that the assignments computed by our algorithms are considerably better than those computed by popular conference management software. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On August 9–10, 2017, the American College of Surgeons hosted a symposium on metabolic surgery, with 12 follow-on papers published serially in the Bulletin of the College. The current synopsis outlines the varied contents of these papers, often in the original words of their authors, who are cited within their topic sections. Topics covered include the following: history and definition of metabolic surgery, bariatric surgery, international bariatric surgery, mechanisms of metabolic surgery, diabetes and the metabolic syndrome, frontiers of metabolic surgery, institutional collaborations, accreditations and quality initiatives, professional training, the role of the National Institutes of Health, and advocacy. Runtime verification (RV) refers to methods for formal reasoning about all aspects of the dynamic execution of systems, including hardware, software, and cyber-physical systems. RV includes techniques to assess and enforce correctness of a system against systemic bugs or extrinsic uncertainties. These methods are typically considered lightweight as they may not involve exhaustive verification or proofs, but they provide a higher level of rigor and versatility compared to conventional testing methods. This article introduces the extended versions of selected papers from the peer-reviewed proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Runtime Verification (RV 2020). Since its inception in 1998, MODELS has been the premier conference series for model-based software and systems engineering, covering all aspects of modeling, from languages and methods to tools and applications. Purpose: The European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) congress is an important venue, and the research presented can be a critical source of information used to impact clinical decisions and health policies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of evidence of clinical free papers presented at the ESSKA congress from 2008 to 2016. Moreover, this study evaluated whether there were any changes in the distribution of level of evidence over time.Methods: Two reviewers screened the free papers presented at the ESSKA biannual congresses 2008-2016 for clinical evidence. Clinical papers included observational studies and trials involving direct interaction between an investigator and human subjects. Biomechanical studies, technique demonstrations, cadaveric studies, and panel discussions were excluded. The reviewers independently graded their level of evidence from level I (e.g. high-quality randomized trials) to level IV (e.g. case series and reports) using the classification system published by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.Results: Of 1036 free papers that were identified, 729 met the inclusion criteria and were evaluated. Overall, 18% of studies were level I, 24% level II, 25% level III, and 33% level IV evidence. There was a significant improvement in level of evidence over time (p < 0.0001), with the proportion of level I studies increasing most dramatically (9% in 2008, 20% in 2012, 24% in 2016). Free papers studying the knee had higher levels of evidence than those evaluating other joints (p = 0.002).Conclusion: The level of evidence of clinical free papers presented at the ESSKA congress between 2008 and 2016 is high relative to other orthopaedic meetings. This article presents information about several research papers which were presented during the conference of Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. The conference was held during November 25-26, 2004, in Liverpool, England. The first paper is "Totally Laparoscopic Anatomical Left Lateral Hepatic Sectionectomy: Technique and Initial Experience." Results show that totally laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy is feasible and safe in selected patients. Another study is "Applications of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Patients With Gastric Outlet Obstruction and Obstructive Jaundice." It was found that gastric and biliary bypass can be performed safely by the laparoscopic approach in all comers with benign or malignant disease who require surgery to palliate or prevent gastric outlet obstruction or obstructive jaundice.

The paper provides a short history of the operations research (OR) in Slovenia. Some major events and achievements are mentioned and briefly discussed. The period starts in the year 1964, with the first symposium on OR in Slovenia. In the following decades, there were several important milestones: (1) the start of master's and Ph.D. studies in OR in 1974, (2) the establishment of SSI-SSOR in 1992 (SSI-SSOR stands for the Slovenian Section for Operational Research within the Slovenian Society of Informatics), and (3) the start of a series of symposia in operations research in 1993. All these activities resulted in an extensive list of publications, projects, and monographs and international connections, proving that OR is still a vibrant field, which facilitates knowledge transfer from pure research to business applications. An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses papers presented at the Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML) that was held in Hong Kong from November 20-22, 2015 which focused on performance metrics for machines.

Information about several papers discussed at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO) 2011 conference held in Bursa, Turkey on December 1-4, 2011 is presented. Topics include the comparison on the various architectures of transceivers, adjustable bandpass filtering solutions and the introduction of an active element called voltage differencing inverting buffered amplifier (VDIBA). The study on the frequency-domain models of memristor, memcapacitor and meminductor is also mentioned.

This introductory paper provides an outline of each of the papers published in this journal.
