Drawing on multivariate, spatial agglomeration, cluster analysis, and the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, this paper aims to reveal the spatial inequalities in the digital development of households and individuals at 460 districts/cities in Indonesia and its association with socioeconomic characteristics. The results show a significant district digital divide characterized by a decline of regional digital development index (RDDI) values from the west to the east and from core cities to more peripheral ones. Cities with high RDDI values are mainly concentrated in large metropolitan areas in western Indonesia, whereas districts with low values tend to concentrate in rural-mountainous regions, remote areas, and archipelagos in eastern Indonesia. However, the digital divide declined from 2015 to 2019, indicating that Indonesian regions are becoming more digitally convergent. Cities are facing considerable challenges resulting from imminent climate change impacts. Urban planning to minimise adverse impacts of climate change at the city level can establish a climate-resilient city. Mitigation strategies to reduce CO2 emissions would lead to a climate-friendly city. Integrating climate change adaptation and mitigation into sustainable city planning should not be merely added as a single level of sustainable city planning, but requires a wide range of multi-level cooperation. Lijiang City has experienced climatic change during the last half century, and its CO2 emissions have increased faster than the GDP growth. Nearby glaciers on Yulong Snow Mountain have been retreating and losing mass since the early twentieth century. In this paper, we identify economic sectors that are vulnerable to climate change, including tourism, agriculture and water supply, and propose mitigation and adaptation strategies to cope with climate change in this tourism city. As energy use is the largest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, renewable energy has enormous CO2 reduction potential. Land use practices, a sectoral approach and public participation are all considered adaptive in climate planning. The proposals outlined are valuable as they provide an understanding of how to implement integrated climate planning and integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation into sustainable city planning. This is a critique of Polèse's recent paper entitled ‘Cities and national economic growth: a reappraisal’ which purports to test the ‘Jacobs hypothesis’. It is argued that both main variables used, ‘national levels of urbanisation’ and ‘per capita GDP growth’, are mis-specified. Human activity intensity evaluation is the basis of analyzing the impact of human activity on the region. With increasing scale and quantity of human activity, the impact on the ecological environment is also more and more serious. The multifactor evaluation model of human activity intensity is established by determining the classification standard index. Firstly, population density, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, mining points, construction land ratio and land utilization ratio are selected as quantitative indexes. Secondly, the weights of evaluation indexes are obtained by using objective valuation method. Further work, the quantitative evaluation model and systematic analysis of human a'ctivity intensity for Ji'nan city are established by multifactor method. The results show that the areas with the highest intensity of human activities are mainly distributed in Ji'nan urban area, the areas with higher intensity are mainly distributed in some towns of Licheng District and the urban areas of counties and cities, the areas with middle intensity are mainly distributed in the areas near Ji'nan urban area and counties, and the areas with lower intensity are mainly distributed in some areas far away from counties and cities. Using the 2005 microcensus data set, this research adopts a multilevel approach to examine housing outcomes in relation to city-level contexts. We find that housing stratification in contemporary China is not homogeneous across cities but rather is spatially dynamic and conditioned by local contexts. Net of other effects, per capita gross domestic product and housing price are significantly associated with housing outcomes in the open market, whereas the effect of a city's administrative rank is restricted to the social housing domain. In addition, in relatively rich cities, the advantage of proper institutional affiliations in owning commodity housing somewhat diminishes, but it remains persistent, if not strengthened, in owning reformed housing and affordable housing. We measured the business-cycle correlations of the real gross domestic product (GDP) growth rates of two cities to capture the degree of segmentation across China's provincial and regional borders. This type of segmentation can be caused by local protectionism as well as other economic and geographic factors. After controlling the other factors, we zeroed in on the administrative border effect that is due to local protectionism. We found that the interprovincial administrative border effect rose and then gradually declined in the period between 1991 and 2007. Its increase coincided with the introduction of the Tax-Sharing System reform, which started in 1994. Our analysis shows that China's reform path did not create a persistent provincial "administrative border effect" that would debilitate market forces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
