Image segmentation (IE) in several disciplines of image processing and computer vision is an essential topic. Segmentation splits a picture into the areas or items that it constitutes. Image segmentation may be achieved with many approaches, some easier than others because of sophisticated programming requirements. The most common technique for segmenting pictures is edge detection (ED) based on sudden (locomotive) intensity fluctuations. This paper aims to study edge detection approaches for the division of images and acquired experimental findings, Sobel, Prewitt, Robert, CannyLoG (Laplacian of Gaussian). It is vital to ensure that picture segmentation algorithms deliver correct results quickly and efficiently for computer vision to reach its full potential. Computer vision approaches require more investigation in hierarchical architectural IoT networks created for seeing the world. In this work, the new way to provide joint image detection (JID) algorithm is to provide multi-scaling approaches for edge detection and segmentation using IoT edge computing (EC). This JID-EC method avoids the requirement to choose and track the edge explicitly. This study provides an overview of fundamental ideas, techniques, and algorithms common to segment images and edge detection, focusing on the segmentation and visualization of joint-articular cartilage images. The reason for this failure is that it is an image noise-sensitive high pass filter. The need for improved algorithms to meet a suitable value of low and high thresholds should thus be stressed for picture noise such as a canny edge, and the performance is achieved with an efficiency of 95.2%. The classical image segmentation algorithm based on local adaptive threshold can effectively segment images with uneven illumination, but with the increase of the image data, the real-time problem gradually emerges. In this paper, a quantum segmentation algorithm based on local adaptive threshold for NEQR image is proposed, which can use quantum mechanism to simultaneously compute local thresholds for all pixels in a gray-scale image and quickly segment the image into a binary image. In addition, several quantum circuit units, including median calculation, quantum binarization, etc. are designed in detail, and then a complete quantum circuit is designed to segment NEQR images by using fewer qubits and quantum gates. For a 2 n × 2 n image with q gray-scale levels, the complexity of our algorithm can be reduced to O (n 2 + q) , which is an exponential speedup compared to the classic counterparts. Image segmentation is an important component in image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision. Many segmentation algorithms have been proposed. However, segmentation methods for both noisy and noise-free images have not been studied in much detail. Neutrosophic set (NS), a part of neutrosophy theory, studies the origin, nature, and scope of neutralities, as well as their interaction with different ideational spectra. However, neutrosophic set needs to be specified and clarified from a technical point of view for a given application or field to demonstrate its usefulness. In this paper, we apply neutrosophic set and define some operations. Neutrosphic set is integrated with an improved fuzzy c-means method and employed for image segmentation. A new operation, α-mean operation, is proposed to reduce the set indeterminacy. An improved fuzzy c-means (IFCM) is proposed based on neutrosophic set. The computation of membership and the convergence criterion of clustering are redefined accordingly. We have conducted experiments on a variety of images. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can segment images accurately and effectively. Accurate segmentation of human brain image is an essential step for clinical study of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images. However, vagueness and other ambiguity present between the brain tissues boundaries can lead to improper segmentation. Possibilistic fuzzy c-means (PFCM) algorithm is the hybridization of fuzzy c-means (FCM) and possibilistic c-means (PCM) algorithms which overcomes the problem of noise in the FCM algorithm and coincident clusters problem in the PCM algorithm. A major challenge posed in the PFCM algorithm for segmentation of ill-defined MRI image with noise is to take into account the ambiguity in the final localization of the feature vectors due to lack of qualitative information. This may lead to improper assignment of membership (typicality) value to their desired cluster. In this paper, we have proposed the possibilistic intuitionistic fuzzy c-means (PIFCM) algorithm for Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets (A-IFS) which includes the advantages of the PCM, FCM algorithms and A-IFS. Real and simulated MRI brain images are segmented to show the superiority of the proposed PIFCM algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields better result. Breast cancer occurs in over 8% of women during their lifetime, and is the leading cause of death among women. Sonography is superior to mammography because it has the ability to detect focal abnormalities in the dense breasts and has no side-effect. In this paper, we propose a novel automatic segmentation algorithm based on the characteristics of breast tissue and eliminating particle swarm optimization (EPSO) clustering analysis. The characteristics of mammary gland in breast ultrasound (BUS) images are analyzed and utilized, and a method based on step-down threshold technique is employed to locate the mammary gland area. The EPSO clustering algorithm utilizes the idea of "survival of the superior and weeding out the inferior". The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can segment BUS image with high accuracy and low computational time. The EPSO clustering method reduces the computational time by 32.75% compared with the standard PSO clustering algorithm. Many algorithms for applications such as pattern recognition, computer vision, and computer graphics seek to compute actual optimal paths in weighted directed graphs. The standard approach for reporting an actual optimal path is based on building a single-source optimal path tree. A technique by Chen et al.2 was given for a class of problems such that a single actual optimal path can be reported without maintaining any single-source optimal path tree, thus significantly reducing the space bound of those problems with no or little increase in their running time. In this paper, we extend the technique by Chen et al.2 to the generalized problem of reporting many actual optimal paths with different starting and ending vertices in certain directed graphs, and show how this new technique yields improved results on several application problems, such as reconstructing a 3-D surface band bounded by two simple closed curves, finding various constrained segmentation of 2-D medical images, and circular string-to-string correction. We also correct an error in the time/space complexity for the well-cited circular string-to-string correction algorithm12 and give an improved result for this problem. Although the generalized many-path problem seems more difficult than the single-path cases, our algorithms have nearly the same space and time bounds as those of the single-path cases. Multiscale image analysis has been used successfully in a number of applications to segment image features according to their relative scale. In this paper, we present a new framework for the hierarchical segmentation of gray level image. The proposed scheme comprises a nonlinear scale-space and morphological gradient watersheds. Our aim is to produce a meaningful hierarchy among the objects in the image. The scale-space is based on morphological anisotropic diffusion that uses reconstruction morphological operators. Furthermore, we introduce the method to reconstruct morphological operators and the principle of the dynamics of contours in scale-space that combines scale and contrast information. The continuous image sequence recognition is more difficult than the single image recognition because the classification of continuous image sequences and the image edge recognition must be very accurate. Hence, a method based on sequence alignment for action segmentation and classification is proposed to reconstruct a template sequence by estimating the mean action of a class category, which calculates the distance between a single image and a template sequence by sparse coding in Dynamic Time Warping. The proposed method, the methods of Kulkarni et al. [Continuous action recognition based on sequence alignment, Int. J. Comput. Vis. pp. 1-26.] and Hoai et al. [Joint segmentation and classification of human actions in video, IEEE Conf. Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2008, pp. 108-119.] are compared on the recognition accuracy of the continuous recognition and isolated recognition, which clearly shows that the proposed method outperforms the other methods. When applied to continuous gesture classification, it not only can recognize the gesture categories more quickly and accurately, but is more realistic in solving continuous action recognition problems in a video than the other existing methods. Region of interest (ROI) is the most important part of an image that expresses the effective content of the image. Extracting regions of interest from images accurately and efficiently can reduce computational complexity and is essential for image analysis and understanding. In order to achieve the automatic extraction of regions of interest and obtain more accurate regions of interest, this paper proposes Optimized Automatic Seeded Region Growing (OASRG) algorithm. The algorithm uses the affinity propagation (AP) clustering algorithm to extract the seeds automatically, and optimizes the traditional region growing algorithm by regrowing strategy to obtain the regions of interest where target objects are contained. Experimental results show that our algorithm can automatically locate seeds and produce results as good as traditional region growing with seeds selected manually. This article introduces a partial matching framework, based on set theory criteria, for the measurement of shape similarity. The matching framework is described in an abstract way because the proposed scheme is independent of the selection of a segmentation method and feature space. This paradigm ensures the high adaptability of the algorithm and brings the implementer a wide control over the robustness, the ability to balance between selectivity and sensitivity, and the freedom to deal with more general and arbitrary image transformations required for some particular problem. A strategy to establish a descriptor set obtained from components segmented from the main shape is expounded, and two exclusion measure functions are formulated. Proofs are given to show that it is not required to match the entire descriptor sets to determine that two shapes are similar. The methodology provides a dissimilarity score that may be used for shape-based retrieval and object recognition; this is demonstrated applying the proposed approach in a cattle brand identification system.
