This paper presents empirical material drawn from a participatory 'apprentice ethnographic' research project examining the everyday geographies of a recovery-oriented wood workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland. It addresses two key literature gaps in human geography: firstly, empirically developing the concept of atmosphere within therapeutic landscapes research, and, secondly, exploring the notion of well-being in spaces of craft. The paper develops a more enlivened understanding of well-being as a dynamic and emplaced process, with the study's methodological approach allowing the researcher to focus less on the individual psychological attributes of participants and more on the spatial aspects of journeys towards recovery and well-being. The paper highlights how 'atmospheres of care' are tentatively co-constructed and maintained in the taskscape of the workshop, creating a liminal space of recovery and transition. We often look to the examples set by other countries when thinking about how to deal with problems at home. But what explains why some countries are more likely to serve as role models than others? Are people influenced mainly by the examples set by countries that are considered to be particularly successful in a given policy area? Or are they influenced to a greater extent by countries that are more familiar to them, or that appear more similar to their own? In this paper, we test these hypotheses using two large (n |$\ > {\rm{\ }}$| 2,000) survey-based experiments conducted in the United States. The first focuses on environmental issues, while the second focuses on human rights issues. In both studies, the respondents were presented with a randomly drawn list of countries and asked to indicate how relevant the examples that these countries set should be to policy discussions in the United States. Our results suggest that the US public's perception of the relevance of other countries' experiences is driven primarily by the extent to which the respondent perceives the other countries as familiar to them, or similar to the United States, rather than by more objective measures of policy success. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the connection between Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics and environmental issues as a kind of eco-hermeneutics. In this sense, one seeks to discuss the contribution of Gadamer's ontological-practical thought in ecological terms as a branch of philosophy in which issues around the environment constitute a common point in the scope of human praxis. Pointing out the ecological crisis as an essential issue, Gadamer indicates a way to think about the constitution of the way of being in the world with others, situated on a current and increasingly degraded sphere of praxis. In essence, he offers an interpretative horizon to ecological questioning as an avenue through which to think about hermeneutical solidarity in terms of ecological solidarity and thereby provide a possibility of rehabilitating praxis from the shared environment. The global pandemic due to the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus has caused significant impact on various sectors of society, e.g., health, science, and economy, with a remarkable change in environmental aspects. The present study focused on an analysis of the spread of COVID-19 in South America, highlighting the impacts of lockdown policies on the air quality in the main cities of ten countries during the pandemics, furthermore, through simple regression statistical models, the behavior of accumulated daily cases of COVID-19 in 13 countries was characterized. The lockdown strategy was one of the first measures adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) to control the spread of the coronavirus, significantly reducing traffic and industrial activities. This measure has surprisingly improved the air quality in four of the 13 South American cities studied, e.g., Guarulhos (Brazil), Santiago de Chile (Chile), Bogota (Colombia), and Lima (Peru), with reductions in PM2.5, PM10, and ozone (O3). The propagation behavior of COVID-19 in South America and the environmental impact analyses provided in this paper demonstrate the intense effect of commercial and industrial activities and can be used to subsidize future reductions in pollution and disease contamination. This paper examines the contributions of two British architects, Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew in the development of built environment in Nigeria after World War II. It analyses the historical development of the built environment in Nigeria's public space with respect to modernize infrastructures such as banks, schools, teachers training colleges and the university needed in support of the colonial administration in Nigeria. The agitation of the nationalists and postwar reconstruction facilitated and encouraged the British Empire to develop the edifice or structures that would be suitable for the environment. This, to a large extent, influenced the Nigerian architecture and built environment. Their design principles yielded functional institutional spaces and a hybrid aesthetics that signifies modernist construction and colonial influence. The paper concludes that the designs of both Fry and Drew represent a milestone and significant contribution to the development of built environment in colonial Nigeria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bombyx mori L. is one of the most important species for silk production internationally. Being a domesticated species, there are certain factors to be considered during its breeding. This paper discusses the influence of certain factors on silkworm rearing. Reference is made to B. mori breeds and their peculiarities regarding their productive characteristics. In addition, the effects of certain environmental factors are explained, as well as their interaction with food and diseases that affect silkworm. Regarding the latter, the main strategies used for fighting them are mentioned. The interaction of larvae, environment, food and diseases influence mainly on B. mori rearing. Climatic characteristics of the production sites of pigs influence the yield of the system, with breeding sows being a category extremely sensitive to high temperatures, especially when their upper critical temperature is reached. This review evaluated the effects of the evaporative cooling system on environmental, physiological and performance parameters in breeding sows. By means of this review, a bibliographic search was performed using the following keywords: sow; swine; gilt and pig combined individually with the expression 'evaporative cooling'. A total of 11 papers met the prerequisites determined to compose the systematic review and the studies involved gestating and lactating sows maintained in environments that presented ambient temperatures between 21.5 and 34.8 °C and relative humidity between 32.2 and 84.2%. The evaporative cooling system was used in order to cool the macro or micro environment. It can be concluded that the use of evaporative cooling system promotes increase in feed intake per lactating sow, decrease in weight loss in lactation, increase of weight of piglets at weaning, temperature reduction of the barns and decrease of the respiratory rate of the sows. The Istituto Idrografico della Marina, founded in Genoa in 1872, is responsible for the national hydrographic service and the production of the official nautical documentation, both paper and digital, relating to Italian seas. Today the cartography is entirely produced with the help of the computer and sent to users in digital format or printed on special kinds of paper via digital machines: in short, the process has been strongly standardized and industrialized, losing part of the romantic and of craftsmanship aura it had in the past. The electronic cartographic portfolio published by the Istituto Idrografico consists of 262 charts and is splitted for navigation purposes, ranging from large-scale maps of Italian territorial waters, coasts and main ports, to small-scale maps covering all the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Natural resources and physical cultural resources, referred to in this paper as "Environmental Resources", can be important assets for regional competitiveness and innovation. In recent years, these types of assets have been increasingly taken into consideration in the design and implementation of regional development strategies, as a consequence of their potential role as a source of differentiation and of new competitive advantages. However, in contrast to environmental policies, which usually focus on the protection of the environment, innovation policies and their instruments are largely shaped by, and geared towards, knowledge-based innovation. In this paper, we discuss the role played by environmental resources in the context of regional innovation policies. We begin by discussing the relationship between environmental resources and regional development, and by emphasizing some contrasting views with regard to the function of environmental resources in regional development. Then, we address the relationship between regional competitive advantages and innovation strategies. The specific issues and problems that arise whenever the aim is to attain competitive advantages through the valorisation of environmental resources constitute the core of section III. In that section, we highlight the specific characteristics of environmental resources and we discuss the applicability of the "natural resource curse" argument to the dynamics based on the valorisation of environmental resources. The reasons that justify public intervention as well as the difficulties concerning the adequate level of intervention (local / regional / national) are also examined. The following paper is based on a research41 made on school environments that promote learning in children. Its objective was “to determine the physical and socio-emotional factors of school environments that promote learning.” To this end, the investigation had both an exploratory and descriptive approach in terms of the various physical and emotional elements that influence the classroom environment and, therefore, the learning process. In this paper, reference is made only to the data provided by the child population. Such group was comprised of 307 boys and girls of public schools from six provinces in the country, intentionally selected through coordination and negotiation with the authorities of schools that agreed to participate. The data collection instruments used were two questionnaires with closed and open questions, an anecdotal record, and a guide on which the observation technique was performed. The analysis of the information derived from the technique and instruments used was developed by complementing quantitative data with qualitative data. Emerging categories were created to interpret the latter. The information provided by the boys and girls will hopefully serve as input to raise awareness among universities, authorities and teachers about the imperative need for school environments that are aesthetic, pleasant, motivating, comfortable, clean and promote the emotional stability every human being requires for the learning process to be successful.

In the present paper we want to argue that Wearable Robots (i.e., technological devices used to restore the possibility of walking and re-establishing "normal" human life) should not necessarily be anthropomorphic, in order to respect human autonomy, freedom and nature. Moreover, we argue that this non-anthropomorphism does not necessarily lead to transhumanism. To adequately discuss this topic, we are called to consider various aspects embedded in the question: the difference between restoring and enhancing, i.e., the difference between considering human nature as normative, or will (or wish) as the main criterion of choice; the difference between exceeding the limits of human nature (i.e., human enhancement) and restoring human functions and finally, the nature of the function itself. We will introduce a "weak" notion of autonomy and freedom, dealing with rehabilitation and motility, in order to assess the use of Wearable Robots in rehabilitative medicine. Hence we will argue that the less constraints that patients have, the freer they are. All these aspects also imply an anthropological and ecological view, since they have to do with the relationship of the human being with its environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Este artigo apresenta resultados de pesquisa que aborda a percepção dos moradores sobre os problemas ambientais, a forma de resolução e os agentes envolvidos. Os problemas ambientais urbanos são pesquisados no nível domiciliar através da percepção que os moradores têm de suas qualidade e condições de vida. Para apresentar as diferenças nas percepções, nas atitudes e nas condições sócio-ambientais do município, foram escolhidas três regiões que representam os estratos de alta, média e baixa renda que residem nas regiões central, intermediária e periférica. Os resultados da pesquisa mostram que, apesar das conhecidas diferenças entre áreas centrais e periféricas, os moradores revelam uma grande dependência da ação governamental. As diferenças na ênfase dada aos problemas entre as três regiões mostram que enquanto os mais excluídos privilegiam o aspecto quantitativo -garantia do acesso ao serviço- os moradores dos bairros centrais e intermediários privilegiam uma perspectiva global do serviço -limpeza dos rios, fontes de água e reservatórios de água. Os resultados reforçam as já bem conhecidas diferenças e desigualdades entre as áreas centrais, intermediárias e periféricas da cidade, sendo que neste complexo contexto urbano, a realidade sócio-ambiental de uma grande parte da população está caracterizada pelas dimensões da exclusão, dos problemas, do risco, da falta de informação e dos canais de participação.This paper reviews the differences in household perceptions of what constitutes environmental problems, what should be done about them, and who should take action. Built on a household survey undertaken in the city of São Paulo, the paper presents the environmental conditions in three selected areas: one central, one intermediate, and one peripheral. People's responses to improve the environment are then compared. In the lower peripheral area, the main concern relates to the lack of service in general, and the major solution would consequently be to expand public investments. The intermediate and central areas are less affected by poor infrastructure; however, they suffer more from air pollution. This is overwhelming in terms of priority in government action. In spite of the differences between central and peripheral regions relating to access to services, both express a very strong dependency on government action.

The paper intends to examine a specific area of research concerning the pollution of large rivers – the Tiber above all but not exclusively – and the resulting contamination of water and air as well as the depletion of fish fauna and related food risks. The data on the damage to fluvial (but also lake and marine) habitats are not presented by the intellectuals of the Flavian-Trajan and Antonine ages (Pliny the Elder, Pliny the Younger, Galen) in an ‘environmentalist’ perspective stricto sensu, but each time presented in terms of moral condemnation, or of political propaganda aimed at seeking consensus or even in terms of risk to health and/or possible economic damage. In spite of this, from a legal point of view, appears undeniable a concern of the State to introduce measures aimed at limiting environmental damages as well as protecting and conserving natural resources, although certainly not systematic, but dictated by completely pragmatic needs and by occasional or emergency circumstances.

The paper analyzes the development of Mexican geomorphology and specially its contribution to environmental issues. To this end, a thorough literature review was carried out; papers were differentiated according to the type of journal (Mexican and international). Special emphasis was placed on analyzing whether the interest on environment was derived from a well defined theoretical framework, in particular in terms of the insertion of geomorphology in the geographic arena in Mexico. The review has focused on secientific papers duly refereed and available at the Internet. Thus other research was not included. However, that the database described in this paper represents a solid sample of the entire universe of the efforts of Mexican geomorphologists.
