In today's world, a significant amount of global energy is used in buildings. Unfortunately, a lot of this energy is wasted, because electrical appliances are not used properly or efficiently. One way to reduce this waste is by detecting, learning, and predicting when people are present in buildings. To do this, buildings need to become "smart" and "cognitive" and use modern technologies to sense when and how people are occupying the buildings. By leveraging this information, buildings can make smart decisions based on recently developed methods. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that have been designed and used for the monitoring of indoor environmental conditions within buildings. Using these technologies is crucial to gathering data about the indoor environment and determining the number and presence of occupants. Furthermore, this paper critically examines both the strengths and limitations of each technology in predicting occupant behavior. In addition, it explores different methods for processing these data and making future occupancy predictions. Moreover, we highlight some challenges, such as determining the optimal number and location of sensors and radars, and provide a detailed explanation and insights into these challenges. Furthermore, the paper explores possible future directions, including the security of occupants' data and the promotion of energy-efficient practices such as localizing occupants and monitoring their activities within a building. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing network that shares information over the Internet via interconnected devices. In addition, this network has led to new security challenges in recent years. One of the biggest challenges is the impact of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on the IoT. The Information-Centric Network (ICN) infrastructure is a critical component of the IoT. The ICN has gained recognition as a promising networking solution for the IoT by supporting IoT devices to be able to communicate and exchange data with each other over the Internet. Moreover, the ICN provides easy access and straightforward security to IoT content. However, the integration of IoT devices into the ICN introduces new security challenges, particularly in the form of DoS attacks. These attacks aim to disrupt or disable the normal operation of the ICN, potentially leading to severe consequences for IoT applications. Machine learning (ML) is a powerful technology. This paper proposes a new approach for developing a robust and efficient solution for detecting DoS attacks in ICN-IoT networks using ML technology. ML is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on the development of algorithms. While several ML algorithms have been explored in the literature, including neural networks, decision trees (DTs), clustering algorithms, XGBoost, J48, multilayer perceptron (MLP) with backpropagation (BP), deep neural networks (DNNs), MLP-BP, RBF-PSO, RBF-JAYA, and RBF-TLBO, researchers compare these detection approaches using classification metrics such as accuracy. This classification metric indicates that SVM, RF, and KNN demonstrate superior performance compared to other alternatives. The proposed approach was carried out on the NDN architecture because, based on our findings, it is the most used one and has a high percentage of various types of cyberattacks. Multimodal sarcasm detection is a developing research field in social Internet of Things, which is the foundation of artificial intelligence and human psychology research. Sarcastic comments issued on social media often imply people's real attitudes toward the events they are commenting on, reflecting their current emotional and psychological state. Additionally, the limited memory of Internet of Things mobile devices has posed challenges in deploying sarcastic detection models. An abundance of parameters also leads to an increase in the model's inference time. Social networking platforms such as Twitter and WeChat have generated a large amount of multimodal data. Compared to unimodal data, multimodal data can provide more comprehensive information. Therefore, when studying sarcasm detection on social Internet of Things, it is necessary to simultaneously consider the inter-modal interaction and the number of model parameters. In this paper, we propose a lightweight multimodal interaction model with knowledge enhancement based on deep learning. By integrating visual commonsense knowledge into the sarcasm detection model, we can enrich the semantic information of image and text modal representation. Additionally, we develop a multi-view interaction method to facilitate the interaction between modalities from different modal perspectives. The experimental results indicate that the model proposed in this paper outperforms the unimodal baselines. In this paper, we have developed the SEMAR (Smart Environmental Monitoring and Analytics in Real-Time) IoT application server platform for fast deployments of IoT application systems. It provides various integration capabilities for the collection, display, and analysis of sensor data on a single platform. Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become very popular and widely used in various applications including IoT. To support this growth, the integration of AI into SEMAR is essential to enhance its capabilities after identifying the current trends of applicable AI technologies in IoT applications. In this paper, we first provide a comprehensive review of IoT applications using AI techniques in the literature. They cover predictive analytics, image classification, object detection, text spotting, auditory perception, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and collaborative AI. Next, we identify the characteristics of each technique by considering the key parameters, such as software requirements, input/output (I/O) data types, processing methods, and computations. Third, we design the integration of AI techniques into SEMAR based on the findings. Finally, we discuss use cases of SEMAR for IoT applications with AI techniques. In recent years, the interest in multifunctional façade (MF) technology has increased significantly. Recent advances in the integration of active and passive technologies have led to a new concept of building skins with highly flexible and decentralized control. Such an approach is considered capable of tackling environmental challenges and enhancing indoor environmental quality (IEQ). Integrated HVAC systems, dynamic blinds, and renewable energy systems can drastically increase façade responsiveness and efficiency. Although the technical feasibility of active and MF technology has already been demonstrated, market applications are still limited. The goal of this paper is to define the state of the art of MFs and clarify how the integration of IoT technologies, supported by AI, can increase market interest by fully exploiting the value of these systems. Indeed, recent advances in the IoT and data analysis tools are opening up attractive scenarios in optimization process. Starting with an overview of the most interesting EU-funded projects, this paper presents a MF case study in which IoT infrastructures are fully integrated. Internet of Things (IoT) devices often operate with limited resources while interacting with users and their environment, generating a wealth of data. Machine learning models interpret such sensor data, enabling accurate predictions and informed decisions. However, the sheer volume of data from billions of devices can overwhelm networks, making traditional cloud data processing inefficient for IoT applications. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of recent advances in models, architectures, hardware, and design requirements for deploying machine learning on low-resource devices at the edge and in cloud networks. Prominent IoT devices tailored to integrate edge intelligence include Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA's Jetson, Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense, STM32 Microcontrollers, SparkFun Edge, Google Coral Dev Board, and Beaglebone AI. These devices are boosted with custom AI frameworks, such as TensorFlow Lite, OpenEI, Core ML, Caffe2, and MXNet, to empower ML and DL tasks (e.g., object detection and gesture recognition). Both traditional machine learning (e.g., random forest, logistic regression) and deep learning methods (e.g., ResNet-50, YOLOv4, LSTM) are deployed on devices, distributed edge, and distributed cloud computing. Moreover, we analyzed 1000 recent publications on "ML in IoT" from IEEE Xplore using support vector machine, random forest, and decision tree classifiers to identify emerging topics and application domains. Hot topics included big data, cloud, edge, multimedia, security, privacy, QoS, and activity recognition, while critical domains included industry, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, smart homes and cities, and assisted living. The major challenges hindering the implementation of edge machine learning include encrypting sensitive user data for security and privacy on edge devices, efficiently managing resources of edge nodes through distributed learning architectures, and balancing the energy limitations of edge devices and the energy demands of machine learning. This paper surveys the implementation of blockchain technology in cybersecurity in Internet of Things (IoT) networks, presenting a comprehensive framework that integrates blockchain technology with intrusion detection systems (IDS) to enhance IDS performance. This paper reviews articles from various domains, including AI, blockchain, IDS, IoT, and Industrial IoT (IIoT), to identify emerging trends and challenges in this field. An analysis of various approaches incorporating AI and blockchain demonstrates the potentiality of integrating AI and blockchain to transform IDS. This paper's structure establishes the foundation for further investigation and provides a blueprint for the development of IDS that is accessible, scalable, transparent, immutable, and decentralized. A demonstration from case studies integrating AI and blockchain shows the viability of combining the duo to enhance performance. Despite the challenges posed by resource constraints and privacy concerns, it is notable that blockchain is the key to securing IoT networks and that continued innovation in this area is necessary. Prevailing and exacerbating impacts of climate change call for robust and resilient humanitarian supply chains (HSCs). To that end, intelligent technologies that brought about the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) revolution, such as the Internet of Things, blockchain, and artificial intelligence, may tremendously impact the optimal design and effective management of HSCs. In this paper, we conduct a systematic literature network analysis and identify trends in I4.0 and HSCs. We posit the need to instill into current HSC efforts the quadruple bottom-line (cultural, economic, environmental, and social) pillars of sustainability and define a Sustainable Humanitarian Supply Chain (SHSC). Based on the extant literature and ongoing practice, we highlight how I4.0 technologies can aid SHSC stages from disaster risk assessment to preparedness to response to relief. The complex nature of SHSCs requires a holistic and multidisciplinary approach and collaboration by scholars, policymakers, and industry practitioners to pool solution resources. As the global population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050, the agricultural sector faces the challenge of achieving an increase of 60% in food production without using much more land. This paper explores the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to bridge this "land gap" and mitigate the environmental implications of agricultural land use. Typically, the problem with using AI in such agricultural sectors is the need for more specific infrastructure to enable developers to design AI and ML engineers to deploy these AIs. It is, therefore, essential to develop dedicated infrastructures to apply AI models that optimize resource extraction in the agricultural sector. This article presents an infrastructure for the execution and development of AI-based models using open-source technology, and this infrastructure has been optimized and tuned for agricultural environments. By embracing the MLOps culture, the automation of AI model development processes is promoted, ensuring efficient workflows, fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, and promoting the rapid deployment of AI-driven solutions adaptable to changing field conditions. The proposed architecture integrates state-of-the-art tools to cover the entire AI model lifecycle, enabling efficient workflows for data scientists and ML engineers. Considering the nature of the agricultural field, it also supports diverse IoT protocols, ensuring communication between sensors and AI models and running multiple AI models simultaneously, optimizing hardware resource utilization. Surveys specifically designed and conducted for this paper with professionals related to AI show promising results. These findings demonstrate that the proposed architecture helps close the gap between data scientists and ML engineers, easing the collaboration between them and simplifying their work through the whole AI model lifecycle. In the past decade, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies have become more and more pervasive, allowing the development of Ambient Intelligence and Context Awareness applications. While the smart home is the chosen scenario for such technologies, a variety of environments could potentially benefit from the synergies between IoT and digital applications. Among them, the clinical waiting rooms is an environment facing several challenges, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Clinical waiting rooms are crowded places associated with stress and anxiety, often linked to patients' idling time. Nonetheless, the rise of IoT-enabled telehealth has focused attention on the possibility of changing the functions of clinical waiting rooms. In this work, we conducted a systematic literature review to identify the existing solutions for "smart waiting rooms". The review process started with 278 works, and it identified 16 papers relevant to the topic of smart clinical waiting rooms. Moreover, the results of this review underlined that waiting rooms are a neglected research area that could take advantage of IoT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance patients' experience and support the diagnostic process. Leveraging the research directions identified in the review process, this work proposes a "Smart Waiting Room" that exploits virtual reality (VR), AI, and IoT technologies to support the diagnostic process (via a cognitive assessment) and the personalization of the patient's context—taking into account the features of the physical environment. This paper works on detecting a person in bed for sleep routine and sleep pattern monitoring based on the Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) accelerometer and Internet of Things (IoT) embedded system board. This work provides sleep information, patient assessment, and elderly care for patients who live alone via tele-distance to doctors or family members. About 216,000 pieces of acceleration data were collected, including three classes: no person in bed, a static laying position, and a moving state for Artificial Intelligence (AI) application. Six well-known Machine-Learning (ML) algorithms were evaluated with precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy in the workstation before implementing in the STM32-microcontroller for real-time state classification. The four best algorithms were selected to be programmed into the IoT board and applied for real-time testing. The results demonstrate the high accuracy of the ML performance, more than 99%, and the Classification and Regression Tree algorithm is among the best models with a light code size of 1583 bytes. While digital twins (DTs) have recently gained prominence as a viable option for creating reliable asset representations, many existing frameworks and architectures in the literature involve the integration of different technologies and paradigms, including the Internet of Things (IoTs), data modeling, and machine learning (ML). In this paper, we present a scalable compositional framework designed for the development of a DT-based production management system (PMS) with advanced production monitoring capabilities. The intelligent warehouse is a modern logistics management system that uses technologies like the Internet of Things, robots, and artificial intelligence to realize automated management and optimize warehousing operations. The multi-robot system (MRS) is an important carrier for implementing an intelligent warehouse, which completes various tasks in the warehouse through cooperation and coordination between robots. As an extension of reinforcement learning and a kind of swarm intelligence, MARL (multi-agent reinforcement learning) can effectively create the multi-robot systems in intelligent warehouses. However, MARL-based multi-robot systems in intelligent warehouses face serious safety issues, such as collisions, conflicts, and congestion. To deal with these issues, this paper proposes a safe MARL method based on runtime verification, i.e., an optimized safety policy-generation framework, for multi-robot systems in intelligent warehouses. The framework consists of three stages. In the first stage, a runtime model SCMG (safety-constrained Markov Game) is defined for the multi-robot system at runtime in the intelligent warehouse. In the second stage, rPATL (probabilistic alternating-time temporal logic with rewards) is used to express safety properties, and SCMG is cyclically verified and refined through runtime verification (RV) to ensure safety. This stage guarantees the safety of robots' behaviors before training. In the third stage, the verified SCMG guides SCPO (safety-constrained policy optimization) to obtain an optimized safety policy for robots. Finally, a multi-robot warehouse (RWARE) scenario is used for experimental evaluation. In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet of Things, large-scale botnet attacks have occurred frequently and have become an important challenge to network security. As artificial intelligence technology continues to evolve, intelligent detection solutions for botnets are constantly emerging. Although graph neural networks are widely used for botnet detection, directly handling large-scale botnet data becomes inefficient and challenging as the number of infected hosts increases and the network scale expands. Especially in the process of node level learning and inference, a large number of nodes and edges need to be processed, leading to a significant increase in computational complexity and posing new challenges to network security. This paper presents a novel approach that can accurately identify diverse intricate botnet architectures in extensive IoT networks based on the aforementioned circumstance. By utilizing GraphSAINT to process large-scale IoT botnet graph data, efficient and unbiased subgraph sampling has been achieved. In addition, a solution with enhanced information representation capability has been developed based on the Graph Isomorphism Network (GIN) for botnet detection. This paper presents the development of a novel anti-violence device titled "no pAIn" (an acronym for Never Oppressed Protected by Artificial Intelligence Nonviolence system), which harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI). Primarily designed to combat violence against women, the device offers personal safety benefits for individuals across diverse demographics. Operating autonomously, it necessitates no user interaction post-activation. The AI engine conducts real-time speech recognition and effectively discerns genuine instances of aggression from non-violent disputes or conversations. Facilitated by its Internet connectivity, in the event of detected aggression, the device promptly issues assistance requests with real-time precise geolocation tracking to predetermined recipients for immediate assistance. Its compact size enables discreet concealment within commonplace items like candy wrappers, purpose-built casings, or wearable accessories. The device is battery-operated. The prototype was developed using a microcontroller board (Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect), incorporating an omnidirectional microphone and Wi-Fi module, all at a remarkably low cost. Subsequent functionality testing, performed in debug mode using the Arduino IDE serial monitor, yielded successful results. The AI engine exhibited exceptional accuracy in word recognition, complemented by a robust logic implementation, rendering the device highly reliable in discerning genuine instances of aggression from non-violent scenarios. The emergence of the highly contagious coronavirus disease has led to multiple pandemic waves, resulting in a significant number of hospitalizations and fatalities. Even outside of hospitals, general practitioners have faced serious challenges, stretching their resources and putting themselves at risk of infection. Telemonitoring systems based on Internet of things technology have emerged as valuable tools for remotely monitoring disease progression, facilitating rapid intervention, and reducing the risk of hospitalization and mortality. They allow for personalized monitoring strategies and tailored treatment plans, which are crucial for improving health outcomes. However, determining the appropriate monitoring intensity remains the responsibility of physicians, which poses challenges and impacts their workload, and thus, can hinder timely responses. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an expert system designed to recommend and adjust the monitoring intensity for COVID-19 patients receiving home treatment based on their medical history, vital signs, and reported symptoms. The system underwent initial validation using real-world cases, demonstrating a favorable performance (F1-score of 0.85). Subsequently, once integrated with an Internet of Things telemonitoring system, a clinical trial will assess the system's reliability in creating telemonitoring plans comparable with those of medics, evaluate its effectiveness in reducing medic–patient interactions or hospitalizations, and gauge patient satisfaction and safety. Low-power embedded systems have been widely used in a variety of applications, allowing devices to efficiently collect and exchange data while minimizing energy consumption. However, the lack of extensive maintenance procedures designed specifically for low-power systems, coupled with constraints on anticipating faults and monitoring capacities, presents notable difficulties and intricacies in identifying failures and customized reaction mechanisms. The proposed approach seeks to address the gaps in current resource management frameworks and maintenance protocols for low-power embedded systems. Furthermore, this paper offers a trilateral framework that provides periodic prescriptions to stakeholders, a periodic control mechanism for automated actions and messages to prevent breakdowns, and a backup AI malfunction detection module to prevent the system from accessing any stress points. To evaluate the AI malfunction detection module approach, three novel autonomous embedded systems based on different ARM Cortex cores have been specifically designed and developed. Real-life results obtained from the testing of the proposed AI malfunction detection module in the developed embedded systems demonstrated outstanding performance, with metrics consistently exceeding 98%. The next-generation "Industrial Internet of Things" (IIoT) will support "Machine-to-Machine" (M2M) communications for smart Cyber-Physical-Systems and Industry 4.0, and require guaranteed cyber-security. This paper explores hardware-enforced cyber-security for critical infrastructures. It examines a quantum-safe "Software-Defined-Deterministic IIoT" (SDD-IIoT), with a new forwarding-plane (sub-layer-3a) for deterministic M2M traffic flows. A "Software-Defined Networking" (SDN) control plane controls many "Software-Defined-Deterministic Wide-Area Networks" (SDD-WANs), realized with FPGAs. The SDN control plane provides an "Admission-Control/Access-Control" system for network-bandwidth, using collaborating Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based "Zero Trust Architectures" (ZTAs). Hardware-enforced access-control eliminates all congestion, BufferBloat, and DoS/DDoS attacks, significantly reduces buffer-sizes, and supports ultra-reliable-low-latency communications in the forwarding-plane. The forwarding-plane can: (i) Encrypt/Authenticate M2M flows using quantum-safe ciphers, to withstand attacks by Quantum Computers; (ii) Implement "guaranteed intrusion detection systems" in FPGAs, to detect cyber-attacks embedded within billions of IIoT packets; (iii) Provide guaranteed immunity to external cyber-attacks, and exceptionally strong immunity to internal cyber-attacks; (iv) Save USD 100s of billions annually by exploiting FPGAs; and (v) Enable hybrid Classical-Quantum networks, by integrating a "quantum key distribution" (QKD) network with a classical forwarding plane with exceptionally strong cyber-security, determined by the computational hardness of cracking Symmetric Key Cryptography. The study presents a comprehensive examination of the recent advancements in the field of wine production using the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain Technology (BCT). The paper aims to provide insights into the implementation of these technologies in the wine supply chain and to identify the potential benefits associated with their use. The study highlights the various applications of IoT, AI, and BCT in wine production, including vineyard management, wine quality control, and supply chain management. It also discusses the potential benefits of these technologies, such as improved efficiency, increased transparency, and reduced costs. The study concludes by presenting the framework proposed by the authors in order to overcome the challenges associated with the implementation of these technologies in the wine supply chain and suggests areas for future research. The proposed framework meets the challenges of lack of transparency, lack of ecosystem management in the wine industry and irresponsible spending associated with the lack of monitoring and prediction tools. Overall, the study provides valuable insights into the potential of IoT, AI, and BCT in optimizing the wine supply chain and offers a comprehensive review of the existing literature on the study subject. Environment changes, water scarcity, soil depletion, and urbanisation are making it harder to produce food using traditional methods in various regions and countries. Aquaponics is emerging as a sustainable food production system that produces fish and plants in a closed-loop system. Aquaponics is not dependent on soil or external environmental factors. It uses fish waste to fertilise plants and can save up to 90–95% water. Aquaponics is an innovative system for growing food and is expected to be very promising, but it has its challenges. It is a complex ecosystem that requires multidisciplinary knowledge, proper monitoring of all crucial parameters, and high maintenance and initial investment costs to build the system. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are key technologies that can overcome these challenges. Numerous recent studies focus on the use of AI and the IoT to automate the process, improve efficiency and reliability, provide better management, and reduce operating costs. However, these studies often focus on limited aspects of the system, each considering different domains and parameters of the aquaponics system. This paper aims to consolidate the existing work, identify the state-of-the-art use of the IoT and AI, explore the key parameters affecting growth, analyse the sensing and communication technologies employed, highlight the research gaps in this field, and suggest future research directions. Based on the reviewed research, energy efficiency and economic viability were found to be a major bottleneck of current systems. In this paper, an adaptive and resilient consensus control mechanism for multi-robot systems under Byzantine attack, based on sliding mode control, is proposed. The primary aim of the article is to develop a finite-time consensus control strategy even in the presence of a Byzantine attack. In the start, a finite-time consensus control mechanism is proposed to identify the essential conditions required for ensuring consensus accuracy in multi-robot systems, even when faced with Byzantine attacks using Lyapunov theory. Subsequently, a sliding mode control is combined with an adaptive technique for multi-robot systems that lack prior knowledge of Byzantine attack. Later, an attack observer is proposed to estimate the performance of multi-robot systems in the presence of a Byzantine attack. Additionally, chattering effects are mitigated by employing integral sliding mode control. As a result, resilient consensus performance of multi-robot systems can be achieved in a finite time interval. A simulation example is also presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed model. Furthermore, we delve into the data structure of the proposed method and explore its integration with Artificial Intelligence for seamless incorporation into the Industrial Internet of Things applications. In the context of smart cities, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to the proliferation of AIoT systems, which handle vast amounts of data to enhance urban infrastructure and services. However, the collaborative training of deep learning models within these systems encounters significant challenges, chiefly due to data privacy concerns and dealing with communication latency from large-scale IoT devices. To address these issues, multi-level split federated learning (multi-level SFL) has been proposed, merging the benefits of split learning (SL) and federated learning (FL). This framework introduces a novel multi-level aggregation architecture that reduces communication delays, enhances scalability, and addresses system and statistical heterogeneity inherent in large AIoT systems with non-IID data distributions. The architecture leverages the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol to cluster IoT devices geographically and employs edge and fog computing layers for initial model parameter aggregation. Simulation experiments validate that the multi-level SFL outperforms traditional SFL by improving model accuracy and convergence speed in large-scale, non-IID environments. This paper delineates the proposed architecture, its workflow, and its advantages in enhancing the robustness and scalability of AIoT systems in smart cities while preserving data privacy. With the rapid growth of IoT devices, the threat of botnets is becoming increasingly worrying. There are more and more intelligent detection solutions for botnets that have been proposed with the development of artificial intelligence. However, due to the current lack of computing power in IoT devices, these intelligent methods often cannot be well-applied to IoT devices. Based on the above situation, this paper proposes a distributed botnet detection method based on graph partitioning, efficiently detecting botnets using graph convolutional networks. In order to alleviate the wide range of IoT environments and the limited computing power of IoT devices, the algorithm named METIS is used to divide the network traffic structure graph into small graphs. To ensure robust information flow between nodes while preventing gradient explosion, diagonal enhancement is applied to refine the embedding representations at each layer, facilitating accurate botnet attack detection. Through comparative analysis with GATv2, GraphSAGE, and GCN across the C2, P2P, and Chord datasets, our method demonstrates superior performance in both accuracy and F1 score metrics. Moreover, an exploration into the effects of varying cluster numbers and depths revealed that six cluster levels yielded optimal results on the C2 dataset. With the expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, multilingual scenarios are gradually increasing, and applications based on multilingual resources are also on the rise. In this process, apart from the need for the construction of multilingual resources, privacy protection issues like data privacy leakage are increasingly highlighted. Comparable corpus is important in multilingual language information processing in IoT. However, the multilingual comparable corpus concerning privacy preserving is rare, so there is an urgent need to construct a multilingual corpus resource. This paper proposes a method for constructing a privacy-preserving multilingual comparable corpus, taking Chinese–Uighur–Tibetan IoT based news as an example, and mapping the different language texts to a unified language vector space to avoid sensitive information, then calculates the similarity between different language texts and serves as a comparability index to construct comparable relations. Through the decision-making mechanism of minimizing the impossibility, it can identify a comparable corpus pair of multilingual texts based on chapter size to realize the construction of a privacy-preserving Chinese–Uighur–Tibetan comparable corpus (CUTCC). Evaluation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed provable method, which outperforms in accuracy rate by 77%, recall rate by 34% and F value by 47.17%. Smart home and building systems are popular solutions that support maintaining comfort and safety and improve energy efficiency in buildings. However, dynamically developing distributed network technologies, in particular the Internet of Things (IoT), are increasingly entering the above-mentioned application areas of building automation, offering new functional possibilities. The result of these processes is the emergence of many different solutions that combine field-level and information and communications technology (ICT) networks in various configurations and architectures. New paradigms are also emerging, such as edge and fog computing, providing support for local monitoring and control networks in the implementation of advanced functions and algorithms, including machine learning and artificial intelligence mechanisms. This paper collects state-of-the-art information in these areas, providing a systematic review of the literature and case studies with an analysis of selected development trends. The author systematized this information in the context of the potential development of building automation systems. Based on the conclusions of this analysis and discussion, a framework for the development of the Generic IoT paradigm in smart home and building applications has been proposed, along with a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of its usability. High-precision indoor positioning technology is regarded as one of the core components of artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Over the past decades, society has observed a burgeoning demand for indoor location-based services (iLBSs). Concurrently, ongoing technological innovations have been instrumental in establishing more accurate, particularly meter-level indoor positioning systems. In scenarios where the penetration of satellite signals indoors proves problematic, research efforts focused on high-precision intelligent indoor positioning technology have seen a substantial increase. Consequently, a stable assortment of location sources and their respective positioning methods have emerged, characterizing modern technological resilience. This academic composition serves to illuminate the current status of meter-level indoor positioning technologies. An in-depth overview is provided in this paper, segmenting these technologies into distinct types based on specific positioning principles such as geometric relationships, fingerprint matching, incremental estimation, and quantum navigation. The purpose and principles underlying each method are elucidated, followed by a rigorous examination and analysis of their respective technological strides. Subsequently, we encapsulate the unique attributes and strengths of high-precision indoor positioning technology in a concise summary. This thorough investigation aspires to be a catalyst in the progression and refinement of indoor positioning technologies. Even though the field of medicine has made great strides in recent years, infectious diseases caused by novel viruses that damage the respiratory system continue to plague people all over the world. This type of virus is very dangerous, especially for people with serious long-term breathing problems like asthma, pneumonia, or bronchitis infections. Thus, this paper demonstrates a new secure machine learning monitoring system for a model for virus detection. Our proposed model makes use of four basic emerging technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), Cloud Computing (CC), and Machine Learning (ML), to detect dangerous types of viruses that infect people or animals causing panic worldwide and deregulating human daily life. The Internet of Things (IoT) consists of complex and dynamically aggregated elements or smart entities that need decentralized supervision for data exchanging throughout different networks. The artificial bee colony (ABC) is utilized in optimization problems for the big data in IoT, cloud and central repositories. The main limitation during the searching mechanism is that every single food site is compared with every other food site to find the best solution in the neighboring regions. In this way, an extensive number of redundant comparisons are required, which results in a slower convergence rate, greater time consumption and increased delays. This paper presents a solution to optimize search operations with an enhanced ABC (E-ABC) approach. The proposed algorithm compares the best food sites with neighboring sites to exclude poor sources. It achieves an efficient mechanism, where the number of redundant comparisons is decreased during the searching mechanism of the employed bee phase and the onlooker bee phase. The proposed algorithm is implemented in a replication scenario to validate its performance in terms of the mean objective function values for different functions, as well as the probability of availability and the response time. In the modern digital landscape of the Internet of Things (IoT), data interoperability and heterogeneity present critical challenges, particularly with the increasing complexity of IoT systems and networks. The architecture of this middleware comprises the following main processes: data generation, semantic annotation, security encryption, and semantic operations. The data generation module facilitates seamless data and event sourcing, while the Semantic Annotation Component assigns structured vocabulary for uniformity. SIM adopts blockchain technology to provide enhanced data security, and its layered approach ensures robust interoperability and intuitive user-centric operations for IoT systems. A distinctive feature of this middleware is its proficiency in service integration, leveraging semantic descriptions augmented by user feedback. The increased connectivity of devices has heightened their susceptibility to hackers, underscoring the need to safeguard IoT devices. This research investigates cybersecurity in the context of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), which encompasses the cybersecurity mechanisms used for various healthcare devices connected to the system. This study seeks to provide a concise overview of several artificial intelligence (AI)-based methodologies and techniques, as well as examining the associated solution approaches used in cybersecurity for healthcare systems. The analyzed methodologies are further categorized into four groups: machine learning (ML) techniques, deep learning (DL) techniques, a combination of ML and DL techniques, Transformer-based techniques, and other state-of-the-art techniques, including graph-based methods and blockchain methods. In addition, this article presents a detailed description of the benchmark datasets that are recommended for use in intrusion detection systems (IDS) for both IoT and IoMT networks. This study explores the transformative impact of IoT technologies on smart tourism, striving to boost operational efficiency and enrich the traveler experience. Using a systematic literature review with bibliometric analysis, we examined a sample of 83 studies indexed in SCOPUS to identify research activity on this topic until November 2023. The integration of cutting-edge technologies, including big data, smart sensors, cloud computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wearables, mobile applications, augmented reality, and virtual reality, establishes the foundation of the IoT-enabled smart tourism ecosystem. These innovations bring distinct capabilities, from facilitating data collection with embedded sensor technologies to using cloud computing for essential services like data storage and analytics. Examining various IoT applications in smart tourism, such as recommender systems, smart cities, payment systems, and electronic ticketing, reveals their positive effects on safety, efficiency, and personalized services. The agricultural sector is amidst an industrial revolution driven by the integration of sensing, communication, and artificial intelligence (AI). Within this context, the internet of things (IoT) takes center stage, particularly in facilitating remote livestock monitoring. Challenges persist, particularly in effective field communication, adequate coverage, and long-range data transmission. This study focuses on employing LoRa communication for livestock monitoring in mountainous pastures in the north-western Alps in Italy. The empirical assessment tackles the complexity of predicting LoRa path loss attributed to diverse land-cover types, highlighting the subtle difficulty of gateway deployment to ensure reliable coverage in real-world scenarios. Moreover, the high expense of densely deploying end devices makes it difficult to fully analyze LoRa link behavior, hindering a complete understanding of networking coverage in mountainous environments. This study aims to elucidate the stability of LoRa link performance in spatial dimensions and ascertain the extent of reliable communication coverage achievable by gateways in mountainous environments. Additionally, an innovative deep learning approach was proposed to accurately estimate path loss across challenging terrains. Remote sensing contributes to land-cover recognition, while Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) enhances the path loss model's precision. Through rigorous implementation and comprehensive evaluation using collected experimental data, this deep learning approach significantly curtails estimation errors, outperforming established models. Our results demonstrate that our prediction model outperforms established models with a reduction in estimation error to less than 5 dB, marking a 2X improvement over state-of-the-art models. Overall, this study signifies a substantial advancement in IoT-driven livestock monitoring, presenting robust communication and precise path loss prediction in rugged landscapes. Legitimate identification of devices is crucial to ensure the security of present and future IoT ecosystems. In this regard, AI-based systems that exploit intrinsic hardware variations have gained notable relevance. Within this context, on-chip sensors included for monitoring purposes in a wide range of SoCs remain almost unexplored, despite their potential as a valuable source of both information and variability. In this work, we introduce and release a dataset comprising data collected from the on-chip temperature and voltage sensors of 20 microcontroller-based boards from the STM32L family. These boards were stimulated with five different algorithms, as workloads to elicit diverse responses. The dataset consists of five acquisitions (1.3 billion readouts) that are spaced over time and were obtained under different configurations using an automated platform. The raw dataset is publicly available, along with metadata and scripts developed to generate pre-processed T–V sequence sets. Finally, a proof of concept consisting of training a simple model is presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the identification system based on these data. Traditional laboratory-based water quality monitoring and testing approaches are soon to be outdated, mainly because of the need for real-time feedback and immediate responses to emergencies. The more recent wireless sensor network (WSN)-based techniques are evolving to alleviate the problems of monitoring, coverage, and energy management, among others. The inclusion of the Internet of Things (IoT) in WSN techniques can further lead to their improvement in delivering, in real time, effective and efficient water-monitoring systems, reaping from the benefits of IoT wireless systems. However, they still suffer from the inability to deliver accurate real-time data, a lack of reconfigurability, the need to be deployed in ad hoc harsh environments, and their limited acceptability within industry. Electronic sensors are required for them to be effectively incorporated into the IoT WSN water-quality-monitoring system. Very few electronic sensors exist for parameter measurement. This necessitates the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) sensory techniques for smart water-quality-monitoring systems for indicators without actual electronic sensors by relating with available sensor data. This approach is in its infancy and is still not yet accepted nor standardized by the industry. This work presents a smart water-quality-monitoring framework featuring an intelligent IoT WSN monitoring system. The system uses AI sensors for indicators without electronic sensors, as the design of electronic sensors is lagging behind monitoring systems. In particular, machine learning algorithms are used to predict E. coli concentrations in water. Six different machine learning models (ridge regression, random forest regressor, stochastic gradient boosting, support vector machine, k-nearest neighbors, and AdaBoost regressor) are used on a sourced dataset. From the results, the best-performing model on average during testing was the AdaBoost regressor (a M A E ¯ of 14.37 counts/100 mL), and the worst-performing model was stochastic gradient boosting (a M A E ¯ of 42.27 counts/100 mL). The development and application of such a system is not trivial. The best-performing water parameter set (Set A) contained pH, conductivity, chloride, turbidity, nitrates, and chlorophyll. Acquiring hands-on skills is nowadays key for engineers in the context of Industry 4.0. However, it is not always possible to achieve this in person. Therefore, it is essential to be able to conduct skill acquisition from a remote location. To support the development of remote labs for experimentation, this work proposes the development of an open Industry 4.0 remote platform that can be easily configured and scaled to develop new remote labs for IoT (Internet of Things), cybersecurity, perception systems, robotics, AI (artificial intelligence), etc. Over time, these capabilities will enable the development of sustainable Industry 4.0 remote labs. These labs will coexist on the same Industry 4.0 platform, as our proposed Industry 4.0 remote platform is capable of connecting multiple heterogeneous types of devices for remote programming. In this way, it is possible to easily design open remote labs for the digital transition to Industry 4.0 in a standardized way, which is the main research goal of our In4Labs project. Several users already conducted a series of IoT experiments on our remote Industry 4.0 platform, providing useful recommendations to be included in future versions of the platform. In the last five years, IoT has been a go-to option for various applications such as using sensors for different features, machine-to-machine communication, etc., but precisely in the medical sector, it is still lagging far behind compared to other sectors. Hence, this study emphasises IoT applications in medical fields, Medical IoT sensors and devices, IoT platforms for data visualisation, and artificial intelligence in medical applications. A systematic review considering PRISMA guidelines on research articles as well as the websites on IoMT sensors and devices has been carried out. After the year 2001, an integrated outcome of 986 articles was initially selected, and by applying the inclusion–exclusion criterion, a total of 597 articles were identified. 23 new studies have been finally found, including records from websites and citations. This review then analyses different sensor monitoring circuits in detail, considering an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) scenario, device applications, and the data management system, including IoT platforms for the patients. Agricultural technology integration has become a key strategy for attaining agricultural sustainability. This study examined the integration of technology in agricultural practices towards agricultural sustainability, using Greece as a case study. Data were collected using a questionnaire from 240 farmers and agriculturalists in Greece. The results showed a significant positive effect of technology integration on agricultural sustainability, with p-values indicating strong statistical relevance (types of technology used: p = 0.003; factors influencing technology adoption: p = 0.001; benefits of technology integration: p = 0.021). These results highlight the significant effects that cutting-edge technology like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and precision agriculture have on improving resource efficiency, lowering environmental effects, and raising agricultural yields. Our findings cast doubt on the conventional dependence on intensive, resource-depleting farming techniques and point to a move toward more technologically advanced, sustainable approaches. This research advances the conversation on sustainable agricultural practices by showcasing how well technology integration may improve sustainability results in Greek agriculture. The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought many conveniences to our daily life. However, it has also introduced various security risks that need to be addressed. The proliferation of IoT botnets is one of these risks. Most of researchers have had some success in IoT botnet detection using artificial intelligence (AI). However, they have not considered the impact of dynamic network data streams on the models in real-world environments. Over time, existing detection models struggle to cope with evolving botnets. To address this challenge, we propose an incremental learning approach based on Gradient Boosting Decision Trees (GBDT), called GBDT-IL, for detecting botnet traffic in IoT environments. It improves the robustness of the framework by adapting to dynamic IoT data using incremental learning. Additionally, it incorporates an enhanced Fisher Score feature selection algorithm, which enables the model to achieve a high accuracy even with a smaller set of optimal features, thereby reducing the system resources required for model training. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted experiments on the BoT-IoT, N-BaIoT, MedBIoT, and MQTTSet datasets. We compared our method with similar feature selection algorithms and existing concept drift detection algorithms. The experimental results demonstrated that our method achieved an average accuracy of 99.81% using only 25 features, outperforming similar feature selection algorithms. Furthermore, our method achieved an average accuracy of 96.88% in the presence of different types of drifting data, which is 2.98% higher than the best available concept drift detection algorithms, while maintaining a low average false positive rate of 3.02%. Machine learning is a widespread technology that plays a crucial role in digitalisation and aims to explore rules and patterns in large datasets to autonomously solve non-linear problems, taking advantage of multiple source data. Due to its versatility, machine learning can be applied to agriculture. Better crop management, plant health assessment, and early disease detection are some of the main challenges facing the agricultural sector. Plant phenotyping can play a key role in addressing these challenges, especially when combined with machine learning techniques. Therefore, this study reviews available scientific literature on the applications of machine learning algorithms in plant phenotyping with a specific focus on sunflowers. The most common algorithms in the agricultural field are described to emphasise possible uses. Subsequently, the overview highlights machine learning application on phenotyping in three primaries areas: crop management (i.e., yield prediction, biomass estimation, and growth stage monitoring), plant health (i.e., nutritional status and water stress), and disease detection. Finally, we focus on the adoption of machine learning techniques in sunflower phenotyping. The role of machine learning in plant phenotyping has been thoroughly investigated. Industrial greenhouse mushroom cultivation is currently promising, due to the nutritious and commercial mushroom benefits and its convenience in adapting smart agriculture technologies. Traditional Device-Cloud protocol in smart agriculture wastes network resources when big data from Internet of Things (IoT) devices are directly transmitted to the cloud server without processing, delaying network connection and increasing costs. Edge computing has emerged to bridge these gaps by shifting partial data storage and computation capability from the cloud server to edge devices. However, selecting which tasks can be applied in edge computing depends on user-specific demands, suggesting the necessity to design a suitable Smart Agriculture Information System (SAIS) architecture for single-crop requirements. This study aims to design and implement a cost-saving multilayered SAIS architecture customized for smart greenhouse mushroom cultivation toward leveraging edge computing. A three-layer SAIS adopting the Device-Edge-Cloud protocol, which enables the integration of key environmental parameter data collected from the IoT sensor and RGB images collected from the camera, was tested in this research. Implementation of this designed SAIS architecture with typical examples of mushroom cultivation indicated that low-cost data pre-processing procedures including small-data storage, temporal resampling-based data reduction, and lightweight artificial intelligence (AI)-based data quality control (for anomalous environmental conditions detection) together with real-time AI model deployment (for mushroom detection) are compatible with edge computing. Integrating the Edge Layer as the center of the traditional protocol can significantly save network resources and operational costs by reducing unnecessary data sent from the device to the cloud, while keeping sufficient information.
