Brain stroke, or a cerebrovascular accident, is a devastating medical condition that disrupts the blood supply to the brain, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. Each year, according to the World Health Organization, 15 million people worldwide experience a stroke. This results in approximately 5 million deaths and another 5 million individuals suffering permanent disabilities. The complex interplay of various risk factors highlights the urgent need for sophisticated analytical methods to more accurately predict stroke risks and manage their outcomes. Machine learning and deep learning technologies offer promising solutions by analyzing extensive datasets including patient demographics, health records, and lifestyle choices to uncover patterns and predictors not easily discernible by humans. These technologies enable advanced data processing, analysis, and fusion techniques for a comprehensive health assessment. We conducted a comprehensive review of 25 review papers published between 2020 and 2024 on machine learning and deep learning applications in brain stroke diagnosis, focusing on classification, segmentation, and object detection. Furthermore, all these reviews explore the performance evaluation and validation of advanced sensor systems in these areas, enhancing predictive health monitoring and personalized care recommendations. Moreover, we also provide a collection of the most relevant datasets used in brain stroke analysis. The selection of the papers was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Furthermore, this review critically examines each domain, identifies current challenges, and proposes future research directions, emphasizing the potential of AI methods in transforming health monitoring and patient care. This paper addresses the global surge in heart disease prevalence and its impact on public health, stressing the need for accurate predictive models. The timely identification of individuals at risk of developing cardiovascular ailments is paramount for implementing preventive measures and timely interventions. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that cardiovascular diseases, responsible for an alarming 17.9 million annual fatalities, constitute a significant 31% of the global mortality rate. The intricate clinical landscape, characterized by inherent variability and a complex interplay of factors, poses challenges for accurately diagnosing the severity of cardiac conditions and predicting their progression. Consequently, early identification emerges as a pivotal factor in the successful treatment of heart-related ailments. This research presents a comprehensive framework for the prediction of cardiovascular diseases, leveraging advanced boosting techniques and machine learning methodologies, including Cat boost, Random Forest, Gradient boosting, Light GBM, and Ada boost. Focusing on "Early Heart Disease Prediction using Boosting Techniques", this paper aims to contribute to the development of robust models capable of reliably forecasting cardiovascular health risks. Model performance is rigorously assessed using a substantial dataset on heart illnesses from the UCI machine learning library. With 26 feature-based numerical and categorical variables, this dataset encompasses 8763 samples collected globally. The empirical findings highlight AdaBoost as the preeminent performer, achieving a notable accuracy of 95% and excelling in metrics such as negative predicted value (0.83), false positive rate (0.04), false negative rate (0.04), and false development rate (0.01). These results underscore AdaBoost's superiority in predictive accuracy and overall performance compared to alternative algorithms, contributing valuable insights to the field of cardiovascular health prediction. Background and objectives: This review aims to delve into the role of artificial intelligence in medicine. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by superficial mucosal inflammation, rectal bleeding, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. By identifying the challenges inherent in UC diagnosis, we seek to highlight the potential impact of artificial intelligence on enhancing both diagnosis and treatment methodologies for this condition. Method: A targeted, non-systematic review of literature relating to ulcerative colitis was undertaken. The PubMed and Scopus databases were searched to categorize a well-rounded understanding of the field of artificial intelligence and its developing role in the diagnosis and treatment of ulcerative colitis. Articles that were thought to be relevant were included. This paper only included articles published in English. Results: Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to computer algorithms capable of learning, problem solving and decision-making. Throughout our review, we highlighted the role and importance of artificial intelligence in modern medicine, emphasizing its role in diagnosis through AI-assisted endoscopies and histology analysis and its enhancements in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Despite these advances, AI is still hindered due to its current lack of adaptability to real-world scenarios and its difficulty in widespread data availability, which hinders the growth of AI-led data analysis. Conclusions: When considering the potential of artificial intelligence, its ability to enhance patient care from a diagnostic and therapeutic perspective shows signs of promise. For the true utilization of artificial intelligence, some roadblocks must be addressed. The datasets available to AI may not truly reflect the real-world, which would prevent its impact in all clinical scenarios when dealing with a spectrum of patients with different backgrounds and presenting factors. Considering this, the shift in medical diagnostics and therapeutics is coinciding with evolving technology. Pipe bursts in water distribution networks (WDNs) pose significant threats to the safety of distribution networks, driving attention to deep learning-based burst detection and localization. However, the applicability of different pressure features still needs to be compared and verified. A large number of nodes challenges deep learning with the excessive number of classification categories and low recognition accuracy. To address these problems, this paper extracts different burst pressure features, including pressure value, pressure difference, and pressure fluctuation ratio, and inputs one of these features into a Burst Diagnosis Multi-Stage Model (BDMM) based on three CS-LSTMs (a combination of the Cuckoo Search algorithm and a long short-term memory network). The first model addresses a binary classification problem, outputting labels indicating whether a pipe burst has occurred. The second one solves a multi-classification problem, outputting the label of the burst partition, and the third model also solves a multi-classification problem, outputting the ID of the bursting junction. The model is tested on a real network and outperforms ELM. For basic burst identification tasks using CS-LSTM, differences among the three features are minimal, while pressure difference and pressure fluctuation ratio exhibit superior performance to pressure value when resolving more complex problems like burst junction localization. Background: This investigation is both a study of potential non-invasive diagnostic approaches for the bladder cancer biomarker UBC® Rapid test and a study including novel comparative methods for bioassay evaluation and comparison that uses bladder cancer as a useful example. The objective of the paper is not to investigate specific data. It is used only for demonstration, partially to compare ROC methodologies and also to show how both sensitivity/specificity and predictive values can be used in clinical diagnostics and decision making. This study includes ROC curves with integrated cut-off distribution curves for a comparison of sensitivity/specificity (SS) and positive/negative predictive values (PPV/NPV or PV), as well as SS-J index/PV-PSI index–ROC curves and SS-J/PV-PSI index cut-off diagrams (J = Youden, PSI = Predictive Summary Index) for the unified direct comparison of SS-J/PV results achieved via quantitative and/or qualitative bioassays and an identification of optimal separate or unified index cut-off points. Patients and Methods: According to the routine diagnostics, there were 91 patients with confirmed bladder cancer and 1152 patients with no evidence of bladder cancer, leading to a prevalence value of 0.073. This study performed a quantitative investigation of used-up test cassettes from the visual UBC® Rapid qualitative point-of-care assay, which had already been applied in routine diagnostics. Using a photometric reader, quantitative data could also be obtained from the test line of the used cassettes. Interrelations between SS and PV values were evaluated using cumulative distribution analysis (CAD), SS/PV–ROC curves, SS-J/PV-PSI index–ROC curves, and the SS-J/PV-PSI index cut-off diagram. The maximum unified SS-J/PV-PSI index value and its corresponding cut-off value were determined and calculated with the SS-J/PV-PSI index cut-off diagram. Results: The use of SS/PV–ROC curves with integrated cut-off concentration distribution curves provides improved diagnostic information compared to "traditional" ROC curves. The threshold distributions integrated as curves into SS/PV–ROC curves and SS-J/PV-PSI index–ROC curves run in opposite directions. In contrast to the SS–ROC curves, the PV–ROC and the novel PV-PSI index–ROC curves had neither an area under the curve (AUC) nor a range from 0% to 100%. The cut-off level of the qualitative assay was 7.5 µg/L, with a sensitivity of 65.9% and a specificity of 63.3%, and the PPV was 12.4% and the NPV was 95.9%, at a threshold value of 12.5 µg/L. Based on these set concentrations, the reader-based evaluation revealed a graphically estimated 5% increase in sensitivity and a 13% increase in specificity, as compared to the visual qualitative POC test. In the case of predictive values, there was a gain of 8% for PPV and 10% for NPV. The index values and cut-offs were as follows: visual SS-J index, 0.328 and 35 µg/L; visual PV-PSI index, 0.083 and 5.4 µg/L; maximal reader Youden index, 0.0558 and 250 µg/L; and maximal PV-PSI index, 0.459 and 250 µg/L, respectively. The maximum unified SS-J/PV-PSI index value was 0.32, and the cut-off was 43 µg/L. The reciprocal SS-J index correctly detected one out of three patients, while the reciprocal PV-PSI index gave one out of twelve patients a correct diagnosis. Conclusions: ROC curves including cut-off distribution curves supplement the information lost in "traditionally plotted" ROC curves. The novel sets of ROC and index–ROC curves and the new SS/PV index cut-off diagrams enable the simultaneous comparison of sensitivity/specificity and predictive value profiles of diagnostic tools and the identification of optimal cut-off values at maximal index values, even in a unifying SS/PV approach. Because the curves within an SS-J/PV-PSI index cut-off diagram are distributed over the complete cut-off range of a quantitative assay, this field is open for special clinical considerations, with the need to vary the mentioned clinical diagnostic parameters. Complete or partial areas over the x-axis (AOX) can be calculated for summarized quantitative or qualitative effectivity evaluations with respect to single and/or unified SS-J and PV-PSI indices and with respect to single, several, or several unified assays. The SS-J/PV-PSI index-AOX approach is a new tool providing additional joint clinical information, and the reciprocal SS-J indices can predict the number of patients with a correct diagnosis and the number of persons who need to be examined in order to correctly predict a diagnosis of the disease. Disease diagnosis represents a critical and arduous endeavor within the medical field. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, spanning from machine learning and deep learning to large model paradigms, stand poised to significantly augment physicians in rendering more evidence-based decisions, thus presenting a pioneering solution for clinical practice. Traditionally, the amalgamation of diverse medical data modalities (e.g., image, text, speech, genetic data, physiological signals) is imperative to facilitate a comprehensive disease analysis, a topic of burgeoning interest among both researchers and clinicians in recent times. Hence, there exists a pressing need to synthesize the latest strides in multi-modal data and AI technologies in the realm of medical diagnosis. In this paper, we narrow our focus to five specific disorders (Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer, depression, heart disease, epilepsy), elucidating advanced endeavors in their diagnosis and treatment through the lens of artificial intelligence. Our survey not only delineates detailed diagnostic methodologies across varying modalities but also underscores commonly utilized public datasets, the intricacies of feature engineering, prevalent classification models, and envisaged challenges for future endeavors. In this paper, we present a novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) -empowered system that enhances large language models and other machine learning tools with rules to provide primary care diagnostic advice to patients. Specifically, we introduce a novel methodology, represented through a process diagram, which allows the definition of generative AI processes and functions with a focus on the rule-augmented approach. Our methodology separates various components of the generative AI process as blocks that can be used to generate an implementation data flow diagram. Building upon this framework, we utilize the concept of a dialogue process as a theoretical foundation. This is specifically applied to the interactions between a user and an AI-empowered software program, which is called "Med|Primary AI assistant" (Alpha Version at the time of writing), and provides symptom analysis and medical advice in the form of suggested diagnostics. By leveraging current advancements in natural language processing, a novel approach is proposed to define a blueprint of domain-specific knowledge and a context for instantiated advice generation. Our approach not only encompasses the interaction domain, but it also delves into specific content that is relevant to the user, offering a tailored and effective AI–user interaction experience within a medical context. Background: Large language models (LLMs) represent a recent advancement in artificial intelligence with medical applications across various healthcare domains. The objective of this review is to highlight how LLMs can be utilized by clinicians and surgeons in their everyday practice. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Six databases were searched to identify relevant articles. Eligibility criteria emphasized articles focused primarily on clinical and surgical applications of LLMs. Results: The literature search yielded 333 results, with 34 meeting eligibility criteria. All articles were from 2023. There were 14 original research articles, four letters, one interview, and 15 review articles. These articles covered a wide variety of medical specialties, including various surgical subspecialties. Conclusions: LLMs have the potential to enhance healthcare delivery. In clinical settings, LLMs can assist in diagnosis, treatment guidance, patient triage, physician knowledge augmentation, and administrative tasks. In surgical settings, LLMs can assist surgeons with documentation, surgical planning, and intraoperative guidance. However, addressing their limitations and concerns, particularly those related to accuracy and biases, is crucial. AI is included in a lot of different systems. In facial surgery, there are some AI-based software programs oriented to diagnosis in facial surgery. This study aims to evaluate the capacity and training of models for diagnosis of dentofacial deformities in class II and class III patients using artificial intelligence and the potential use for indicating orthognathic surgery. The search strategy is from 1943 to April 2024 in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Lilacs, and Web of Science. Studies that used imaging to assess anatomical structures, airway volume, and craniofacial positions using the AI algorithm in the human population were included. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Effective Public Health Practice Project instrument. The systematic search identified 697 articles. Eight studies were obtained for descriptive analysis after exclusion according to our inclusion and exclusion criteria. All studies were retrospective in design. A total of 5552 subjects with an age range between 14.7 and 56 years were obtained; 2474 (44.56%) subjects were male, and 3078 (55.43%) were female. Six studies were analyzed using 2D imaging and obtained highly accurate results in diagnosing skeletal features and determining the need for orthognathic surgery, and two studies used 3D imaging for measurement and diagnosis. Limitations of the studies such as age, diagnosis in facial deformity, and the included variables were observed. Concerning the overall analysis bias, six studies were at moderate risk due to weak study designs, while two were at high risk of bias. We can conclude that, with the few articles included, using AI-based software allows for some craniometric recognition and measurements to determine the diagnosis of facial deformities using mainly 2D analysis. However, it is necessary to perform studies based on three-dimensional images, increase the sample size, and train models in different populations to ensure accuracy of AI applications in this field. This study aims to determine whether it can distinguish odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) and simple bone cyst (SBC) based solely on preoperative panoramic radiographs through a deep learning algorithm. (1) Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patient data from January 2018 to December 2022 at Pusan National University Dental Hospital. This study included 63 cases of OKC confirmed by histological examination after surgical excision and 125 cases of SBC that underwent surgical curettage. All panoramic radiographs were obtained utilizing the Proline XC system (Planmeca Co., Helsinki, Finland), which already had diagnostic data on them. The panoramic images were cut into 299 × 299 cropped sizes and divided into 80% training and 20% validation data sets for 5-fold cross-validation. Inception-ResNet-V2 system was adopted to train for OKC and SBC discrimination. (2) Results: The classification network for diagnostic performance evaluation achieved 0.829 accuracy, 0.800 precision, 0.615 recall, and a 0.695 F1 score. (4) Conclusions: The deep learning algorithm demonstrated notable accuracy in distinguishing OKC from SBC, facilitated by CAM visualization. Artificial intelligence (AI) models have received considerable attention in recent years for their ability to identify optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers with clinical diagnostic potential and predict disease progression. This study aims to externally validate a deep learning (DL) algorithm by comparing its segmentation of retinal layers and fluid with a gold-standard method for manually adjusting the automatic segmentation of the Heidelberg Spectralis HRA + OCT software Version 6.16.8.0. A total of sixty OCT images of healthy subjects and patients with intermediate and exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD) were included. A quantitative analysis of the retinal thickness and fluid area was performed, and the discrepancy between these methods was investigated. The results showed a moderate-to-strong correlation between the metrics extracted by both software types, in all the groups, and an overall near-perfect area overlap was observed, except for in the inner segment ellipsoid (ISE) layer. The DL system detected a significant difference in the outer retinal thickness across disease stages and accurately identified fluid in exudative cases. In more diseased eyes, there was significantly more disagreement between these methods. This DL system appears to be a reliable method for accessing important OCT biomarkers in AMD. However, further accuracy testing should be conducted to confirm its validity in real-world settings to ultimately aid ophthalmologists in OCT imaging management and guide timely treatment approaches. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a slowly progressing neurological disorder with symptoms that overlap with those of other conditions, making early detection and accurate diagnosis vital for effective treatment and a patient's quality of life. Symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, slow movements, and balance issues, along with psychiatric manifestations, are typical of PD. This study introduces a groundbreaking approach to PD diagnosis, utilizing a multimodal machine learning framework that integrates Electroencephalography (EEG) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. Focusing on the early detection and accurate classification of PD, the proposed research leverages the distinct yet complementary nature of EEG and MRI datasets to enhance diagnostic precision. We employed a robust algorithmic strategy, including LightGBM and machine learning techniques, to analyze the complex patterns inherent in neurological data. The key steps of the proposed research are preprocessing and feature extraction from both EEG and MRI modalities, followed by their fusion using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction. The fused dataset was then analyzed using a LightGBM model and validated through a 10-fold cross-validation process to ensure reliability and stability. The model's efficacy was further tested on independent datasets, demonstrating its robustness across diverse patient demographics. The obtained results showcased an accuracy of 97.17%, sensitivity of 96.58%, and specificity of 96.82% in PD classification, outperforming traditional multimodal as well as single-modality diagnostic methods. The integration of EEG and MRI data provided a more comprehensive view of the neurophysiological and neuroanatomical changes associated with PD. The world's energy demand is on the rise, leading to an increased focus on renewable energy options due to global warming and rising emissions from fossil fuels. To effectively monitor and maintain these renewable energy systems connected to electrical grids, efficient methods are needed. Early detection of PV faults is vital for enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and safety of PV systems. Thermal imaging emerges as an efficient and effective technique for inspection. On the other hand, evidence indicates that monitoring inverters within a solar energy farm reduces maintenance expenses and boosts production. Optimizing the efficiency of solar energy farms necessitates comprehensive analytics and data on every inverter, encompassing voltage, current, temperature, and power. In this study, our objective was to perform two distinct fault analyses utilizing image processing techniques with thermal images and machine learning techniques using inverter and other physical data. Knowledge of a person's level of skin pigmentation, or so-called "skin tone", has proven to be an important building block in improving the performance and fairness of various applications that rely on computer vision. These include medical diagnosis of skin conditions, cosmetic and skincare support, and face recognition, especially for darker skin tones. However, the perception of skin tone, whether by the human eye or by an optoelectronic sensor, uses the reflection of light from the skin. The source of this light, or illumination, affects the skin tone that is perceived. This study aims to refine and assess a convolutional neural network-based skin tone estimation model that provides consistent accuracy across different skin tones under various lighting conditions. The 10-point Monk Skin Tone Scale was used to represent the skin tone spectrum. A dataset of 21,375 images was captured from volunteers across the pigmentation spectrum. Experimental results show that a regression model outperforms other models, with an estimated-to-target distance of 0.5. Using a threshold estimated-to-target skin tone distance of 2 for all lights results in average accuracy values of 85.45% and 97.16%. With the Monk Skin Tone Scale segmented into three groups, the lighter exhibits strong accuracy, the middle displays lower accuracy, and the dark falls between the two. Breast cancer results from a disruption of certain cells in breast tissue that undergo uncontrolled growth and cell division. These cells most often accumulate and form a lump called a tumor, which may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Malignant tumors can spread quickly throughout the body, forming tumors in other areas, which is called metastasis. Standard screening techniques are insufficient in the case of metastasis; therefore, new and advanced techniques based on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and regression models have been introduced, the primary aim of which is to automatically diagnose breast cancer through the use of advanced techniques, classifiers, and real images. Real fine-needle aspiration (FNA) images were collected from Wisconsin, and four classifiers were used, including three machine learning models and one regression model: the support vector machine (SVM), naive Bayes (NB), k-nearest neighbors (k-NN), and decision tree (DT)-C4.5. According to the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity results, the SVM algorithm had the best performance; it was the most powerful computational classifier with a 97.13% accuracy and 97.5% specificity. It also had around a 96% sensitivity for the diagnosis of breast cancer, unlike the models used for comparison, thereby providing an exact diagnosis on the one hand and a clear classification between benign and malignant tumors on the other hand. As a future research prospect, more algorithms and combinations of features can be considered for the precise, rapid, and effective classification and diagnosis of breast cancer images for imperative decisions. Simple Summary: Early detection of malignant melanoma (MM) has the potential to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality as the thickness of the lesion is closely associated with prognosis. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a non-invasive technology that has the potential to aid clinicians in the early diagnosis of skin cancers, including melanoma. Performance metrics of machine-based AI have been shown to rival or improve upon clinician diagnosis. However, many studies have limited this scope to pre-build image databases that may not replicate real-world settings experienced in general practice. This systematic review aimed to report the performance of commercial or market-approved dermatoscopic systems with AI in the form of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) when tasked with classifying melanoma. The sensitivity and specificity of CNNs are highly varied and illustrate the necessity of clinician-to-patient interaction in the diagnosis process. Clinicians working in unison with AI show the most promise for better performance when classifying MM. Background: Cutaneous melanoma remains an increasing global public health burden, particularly in fair-skinned populations. Advancing technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), may provide an additional tool for clinicians to help detect malignancies with a more accurate success rate. This systematic review aimed to report the performance metrics of commercially available convolutional neural networks (CNNs) tasked with detecting MM. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using CINAHL, Medline, Scopus, ScienceDirect and Web of Science databases. Results: A total of 16 articles reporting MM were included in this review. The combined number of melanomas detected was 1160, and non-melanoma lesions were 33,010. The performance of market-approved technology and clinician performance for classifying melanoma was highly heterogeneous, with sensitivity ranging from 16.4 to 100.0%, specificity between 40.0 and 98.3% and accuracy between 44.0 and 92.0%. Photovoltaic systems are prone to breaking down due to harsh conditions. To improve the reliability of these systems, diagnostic methods using Machine Learning (ML) have been developed. However, many publications only focus on specific AI models without disclosing the type of learning used. In this article, we propose a supervised learning algorithm that can detect and classify PV system defects. We delve into the world of supervised learning-based machine learning and its application in detecting and classifying defects in photovoltaic (PV) systems. We explore the various types of faults that can occur in a PV system and provide a concise overview of the most commonly used machine learning and supervised learning techniques in diagnosing such systems. Additionally, we introduce a novel classifier known as Extra Trees or Extremely Randomized Trees as a speedy diagnostic approach for PV systems. Although this algorithm has not yet been explored in the realm of fault detection and classification for photovoltaic installations, it is highly recommended due to its remarkable precision, minimal variance, and efficient processing. Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability worldwide. At present, however, there are no established biomarkers that have been validated for diagnosing and treating MDD. This study sought to assess the diagnostic and predictive potential of the differences in serum amino acid concentration levels between MDD patients and healthy controls (HCs), integrating them into interpretable machine learning models. Methods: In total, 70 MDD patients and 70 HCs matched in age, gender, and ethnicity were recruited for the study. Serum amino acid profiling was conducted by means of chromatography-mass spectrometry. A total of 21 metabolites were analysed, with 17 from a preset amino acid panel and the remaining 4 from a preset kynurenine panel. Logistic regression was applied to differentiate MDD patients from HCs. Results: The best-performing model utilised both feature selection and hyperparameter optimisation and yielded a moderate area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) classification value of 0.76 on the testing data. The top five metabolites identified as potential biomarkers for MDD were 3-hydroxy-kynurenine, valine, kynurenine, glutamic acid, and xanthurenic acid. Conclusions: Our study highlights the potential of using an interpretable machine learning analysis model based on amino acids to aid and increase the diagnostic accuracy of MDD in clinical practice. Deep learning has emerged as a powerful tool for medical image analysis and diagnosis, demonstrating high performance on tasks such as cancer detection. This literature review synthesizes current research on deep learning techniques applied to lung cancer screening and diagnosis. This review summarizes the state-of-the-art in deep learning for lung cancer detection, highlighting key advances, limitations, and future directions. We prioritized studies utilizing major public datasets, such as LIDC, LUNA16, and JSRT, to provide a comprehensive overview of the field. We focus on deep learning architectures, including 2D and 3D convolutional neural networks (CNNs), dual-path networks, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and vision transformers (ViT). Across studies, deep learning models consistently outperformed traditional machine learning techniques in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity for lung cancer detection in CT scans. This is attributed to the ability of deep learning models to automatically learn discriminative features from medical images and model complex spatial relationships. However, several challenges remain to be addressed before deep learning models can be widely deployed in clinical practice. These include model dependence on training data, generalization across datasets, integration of clinical metadata, and model interpretability. Overall, deep learning demonstrates great potential for lung cancer detection and precision medicine. However, more research is required to rigorously validate models and address risks. Respiratory diseases represent a significant global burden, necessitating efficient diagnostic methods for timely intervention. Digital biomarkers based on audio, acoustics, and sound from the upper and lower respiratory system, as well as the voice, have emerged as valuable indicators of respiratory functionality. Recent advancements in machine learning (ML) algorithms offer promising avenues for the identification and diagnosis of respiratory diseases through the analysis and processing of such audio-based biomarkers. An ever-increasing number of studies employ ML techniques to extract meaningful information from audio biomarkers. Beyond disease identification, these studies explore diverse aspects such as the recognition of cough sounds amidst environmental noise, the analysis of respiratory sounds to detect respiratory symptoms like wheezes and crackles, as well as the analysis of the voice/speech for the evaluation of human voice abnormalities. To provide a more in-depth analysis, this review examines 75 relevant audio analysis studies across three distinct areas of concern based on respiratory diseases' symptoms: (a) cough detection, (b) lower respiratory symptoms identification, and (c) diagnostics from the voice and speech. Furthermore, publicly available datasets commonly utilized in this domain are presented. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver tumor and is associated with high mortality rates. Approximately 80% of cases occur in cirrhotic livers, posing a significant challenge for appropriate therapeutic management. Adequate screening programs in high-risk groups are essential for early-stage detection. The extent of extrahepatic tumor spread and hepatic functional reserve are recognized as two of the most influential prognostic factors. In this retrospective multicenter study, we utilized machine learning (ML) methods to analyze predictors of mortality at the time of diagnosis in a total of 208 patients. The eXtreme gradient boosting (XGB) method achieved the highest values in identifying key prognostic factors for HCC at diagnosis. The etiology of HCC was found to be the variable most strongly associated with a poorer prognosis. The widely used Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) classification in our setting demonstrated superiority over the TNM classification. Although alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) remains the most commonly used biological marker, elevated levels did not correlate with reduced survival. Leprosy is a neglected tropical disease that can cause physical injury and mental disability. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, but can be inconclusive due to the absence of initial symptoms and similarity to other dermatological diseases. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been used in dermatology, assisting clinical procedures and diagnostics. In particular, AI-supported solutions have been proposed in the literature to aid in the diagnosis of leprosy, and this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aims to characterize the state of the art. This SLR followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) framework and was conducted in the following databases: ACM Digital Library, IEEE Digital Library, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. Potentially relevant research articles were retrieved. The researchers applied criteria to select the studies, assess their quality, and perform the data extraction process. Moreover, 1659 studies were retrieved, of which 21 were included in the review after selection. Most of the studies used images of skin lesions, classical machine learning algorithms, and multi-class classification tasks to develop models to diagnose dermatological diseases. Most of the reviewed articles did not target leprosy as the study's primary objective but rather the classification of different skin diseases (among them, leprosy). Although AI-supported leprosy diagnosis is constantly evolving, research in this area is still in its early stage, then studies are required to make AI solutions mature enough to be transformed into clinical practice. Background and Objectives: The diagnosis and pathology of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) remain under debate. However, there is a growing body of evidence for an autoimmune component in ME/CFS caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and other viral infections. Materials and Methods: In this work, we analyzed a large public dataset on the IgG antibodies to 3054 EBV peptides to understand whether these immune responses could help diagnose patients and trigger pathological autoimmunity; we used healthy controls (HCs) as a comparator cohort. Subsequently, we aimed at predicting the disease status of the study participants using a super learner algorithm targeting an accuracy of 85% when splitting data into train and test datasets. Results: When we compared the data of all ME/CFS patients or the data of a subgroup of those patients with non-infectious or unknown disease triggers to the data of the HC, we could not find an antibody-based classifier that would meet the desired accuracy in the test dataset. However, we could identify a 26-antibody classifier that could distinguish ME/CFS patients with an infectious disease trigger from the HCs with 100% and 90% accuracies in the train and test sets, respectively. We finally performed a bioinformatic analysis of the EBV peptides associated with these 26 antibodies. We found no correlation between the importance metric of the selected antibodies in the classifier and the maximal sequence homology between human proteins and each EBV peptide recognized by these antibodies. Conclusions: In conclusion, these 26 antibodies against EBV have an effective potential for disease diagnosis in a subset of patients. Diagnostic errors represent a critical issue in clinical diagnosis and treatment. In China, the rate of misdiagnosis in clinical diagnostics is approximately 27.8%. By comparison, in the United States, which boasts the most developed medical resources globally, the average rate of misdiagnosis is estimated to be 11.1%. It is estimated that annually, approximately 795,000 Americans die or suffer permanent disabilities due to diagnostic errors, a significant portion of which can be attributed to physicians' failure to make accurate clinical diagnoses based on patients' clinical presentations. Differential diagnosis, as an indispensable step in the clinical diagnostic process, plays a crucial role. Accurately excluding differential diagnoses that are similar to the patient's clinical manifestations is key to ensuring correct diagnosis and treatment. Most current research focuses on assigning accurate diagnoses for specific diseases, but studies providing reasonable differential diagnostic assistance to physicians are scarce. This study introduces a novel solution specifically designed for this scenario, employing machine learning techniques distinct from conventional approaches. We develop a differential diagnosis recommendation computation method for clinical evidence-based medicine, based on interpretable representations and a visualized computational workflow. This method allows for the utilization of historical data in modeling and recommends differential diagnoses to be considered alongside the primary diagnosis for clinicians. This is achieved by inputting the patient's clinical manifestations and presenting the analysis results through an intuitive visualization. It can assist less experienced doctors and those in areas with limited medical resources during the clinical diagnostic process.
