Load forecasting is a research hotspot in academia; in the context of new power systems, the prediction and determination of load reserve capacity is also important. In order to adapt to new forms of power systems, a day-ahead automatic generation control (AGC) reserve capacity demand prediction method based on the Fourier transform and the attention mechanism combined with a bidirectional long and short-term memory neural network model (Attention-BiLSTM) optimized by an improved whale optimization algorithm (IWOA) is proposed. Firstly, based on the response time, Fourier transform is used to refine the distinction between various types of load reserve demand, and the power of the AGC reserve band is calculated using Parseval's theorem to obtain the reserve capacity demand sequence. The maximum mutual information coefficient method is used to explore the relevant influencing factors of the AGC reserve sequence concerning the data characteristics of the AGC reserve sequence. Then, the historical daily AGC reserve demand sequences with relevant features are input into the Attention-BiLSTM prediction model, and the improved whale algorithm is used to automatically find the optimal hyperparameters to obtain better prediction results. Finally, the arithmetic simulation results show that the model proposed in this paper has the best prediction performance with the upper (0.8810) and lower (0.6651) bounds of the coefficient of determination ( R 2 ) higher than the other models, and it has the smallest mean absolute percentage error ( M A P E ) and root mean square error ( R M S E ). In recent years, quadcopter-type unmanned aerial vehicles have been preferred in many engineering applications. Because of its nonlinear dynamic model that makes it hard to create optimal control, quadcopter control is one of the main focuses of control engineering and has been studied by many researchers. A quadcopter has six degrees of freedom movement capability and multi-input multi-output structure in its dynamic model. The full nonlinear model of the quadcopter is derived using the results of the experimental studies in the literature. In this study, the control of the quadcopter is realized using the symbolic limited optimal discrete controller synthesis (S-DCS) method. The attitude, altitude, and horizontal movement control of the quadcopter are carried out. To validate the success of the SDCS controller, the control of the quadcopter is realized with fractional order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controllers. The parameters of the FOPID controllers are calculated using Fire Hawk Optimizer, Flying Fox Optimization Algorithm, and Puma Optimizer, which are recently developed meta-heuristic (MH) algorithms. The performance of the S-DCS controller is compared with the performance of the optimal FOPID controllers. In the path planning part of this study, the optimal path planning performances of the SDCS method and the MH algorithms are tested and compared. The optimal solution of the traveling salesman problem (TSP) for a single quadcopter and min-max TSP with multiple depots for multi quadcopters are obtained. This article presents an in-depth analysis of three advanced strategies to tune fractional PID (FOPID) controllers for a nonlinear system of interconnected tanks, simulated using MATLAB. The study focuses on evaluating the performance characteristics of system responses controlled by FOPID controllers tuned through three heuristic algorithms: Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), and Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA). Each algorithm aims to minimize its respective cost function using various performance metrics. The nonlinear model was linearized around an equilibrium point using Taylor Series expansion and Laplace transforms to facilitate control. The FPA algorithm performed better with the lowest Integral Square Error (ISE) criterion value ( 297.83 ) and faster convergence in constant values and fractional orders. This comprehensive evaluation underscores the importance of selecting the appropriate tuning strategy and performance index, demonstrating that the FPA provides the most efficient and robust tuning for FOPID controllers in nonlinear systems. The results highlight the efficacy of meta-heuristic algorithms in optimizing complex control systems, providing valuable insights for future research and practical applications, thereby contributing to the advancement of control systems engineering. This work introduces an alternative approach for developing a customized Metaheuristic (MH) tailored for tuning a Fractional-Order Proportional-Integral-Derivative (FOPID) controller within an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) system. Leveraging an Automated Algorithm Design (AAD) methodology, our strategy generates MHs by utilizing a population-based Search Operator (SO) domain, thus minimizing human-induced bias. This approach eliminates the need for manual coding or the daunting task of selecting an optimal algorithm from a vast collection of the current literature. The devised MH consists of two distinct SOs: a dynamic swarm perturbator succeeded by a Metropolis-type selector and a genetic crossover perturbator, followed by another Metropolis-type selector. This MH fine-tunes the FOPID controller's parameters, aiming to enhance control performance by reducing overshoot, rise time, and settling time. Our research includes a comparative analysis with similar studies, revealing that our tailored MH significantly improves the FOPID controller's speed by 1.69 times while virtually eliminating overshoot. Plus, we assess the tuned FOPID controller's resilience against internal disturbances within AVR subsystems. The study also explores two facets of control performance: the impact of fractional orders on conventional PID controller efficiency and the delineating of a confidence region for stable and satisfactory AVR operation. This work's main contributions are introducing an innovative method for deriving efficient MHs in electrical engineering and control systems and demonstrating the substantial benefits of precise controller tuning, as evidenced by the superior performance of our customized MH compared to existing solutions.
