Serious medical disputes have been causing a wide range of negative impacts. Medical staff may undergo a variety of psychological crises after encountering or witnessing serious medical disputes. This paper first found through qualitative research that the main cause of psychological crises among medical staff was a decreased sense of security. As a result, the key to solving the psychological crises of medical staff is to analyze the factors affecting their psychological security and propose specific measures to protect their psychological security. Using empirical research, this paper revealed that the security risk of serious medical disputes was negatively correlated with factors such as security check equipment, security staff coping ability, the hospital's external environment, medical staff training, patient qualification, and medical feedback channels. After probing into the antecedents and consequences of serious medical disputes in hospitals, this paper proposes comprehensive measures to reduce the negative impacts of serious medical disputes, as well as to intervene and prevent the psychological crises of medical staff under the influence of serious medical disputes. Bipolar disorder (BD) can be especially challenging to treat due to the dynamic nature of its presentation; there is a critical need for a multimodal approach to adequately address patients' symptoms and quality of life concerns. However, most mental health professionals have not implemented a multimodal approach due to limited dissemination of evidence-based psychosocial interventions for BD and bias towards psychopharmacology-centered treatment. This is despite clear findings from numerous studies that medication alone fails to fully address most patients' needs and that psychosocial interventions lead to fewer relapses and a higher quality of life. This paper aims to review the evidence in support of psychosocial interventions as a key component of the treatment of BD and to highlight obstacles to the implementation of psychosocial treatment approaches. Additionally, we aim to make a case for an increase in the utilization of psychosocial interventions to improve quality of life and functioning for individuals with BD and their families, and to mitigate societal costs. Adopted children are often at a risk of experiencing several neurobiological and psychosocial difficulties. Adoptive parents must support these difficulties whilst managing their own idiosyncratic challenges. Family-based psychotherapeutic interventions which promote adoptive family functioning, environments and relationships can mediate these difficulties for adopted families. This review synthesises evidence exploring family-based psychological interventions for adoptive families, appraises the literature's strengths and weaknesses, and reports characteristics of promising interventions. Included studies recruited domestically adoptive families receiving psychotherapeutic interventions delivered to at least one adoptive parent and child. The authors searched seven electronic information databases, four grey literature databases, two journals and five relevant websites up to 12.12.2022. The quantitative Risk of Bias in Non-Randomised Studies of Interventions tool and the qualitative Critical Skills Appraisal Programme checklist assessed risk of bias. The narrative synthesis presents 20 papers detailing 18 studies involving at least 729 adopted children and 829 adoptive parents. Findings provide preliminary support for integrative interventions which include aspects of sensory activities, attachment-based play, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing with Therapeutic Input provided to adopted children and adoptive parents separately, alongside the adoptive family. However, risk of bias was high, limiting the conclusions. Psychotherapy research identifies alliance ruptures and their resolutions as significant events in psychotherapy, influencing outcome. However, we know little about the process how such events influence outcomes, only assuming if clients stay in therapy that the rupture was resolved, and the outcome will be positive. The purpose of this paper is to problematize this assumption against the backdrop of self-determination theory, introducing motivation and relational positioning as relevant theoretical concepts for understanding rupture resolution and the effect on outcome. A therapeutic transcript demonstrating best practice for alliance rupture resolution in a brief integrative therapy is critically examined, calling the attention of both clinicians and researchers to the risk of prescribing and blindly following techniques during therapeutic impasses. Our analysis of metacommunication demonstrates how the therapist's use of a certain technique for resolving threats to the therapeutic alliance can lead to the client's external motivation and compliance, negatively influencing therapeutic outcome. Focusing on the therapist's relational positioning we present two alternative courses of therapeutic action, 'mindfulness in action' and 'embracing the patient's ambivalence', for supporting the client's autonomous motivation for the therapy process. This systematic review examined studies on interventions for parents and their children with learning disabilities to offer an overview of interventions (psychological and psychosocial therapies) for mental health problems associated with learning disabilities and the risk factors for mental health problems in children with learning disabilities and their parents. CINAHL, PsycINFO, PubMed, MEDLINE, Child Development & Adolescent Studies, APA PsycArticles, ProQuest, Embase, Social Sciences Citation (Web of Science) were searched for scholarly studies published between 2010 and 2021 on psychosocial interventions, and psychological therapies for learning disabilities, and related developmental disorders. Ten papers involving parents and their child with a learning disability were relevant to the review question and the objective of the review as they looked at a variety of interventions namely, cognitive behaviour therapy, problem solving and assertiveness training, individual and group counselling, emotion regulation, stress management, resilience training, and relaxation therapy. These studies demonstrated support for the assertion that parents and their children with learning disabilities present mental health problems including anxiety and depression. Yet, the review revealed that there are few interventional studies addressing the risk factors for mental health problems among parents and their children with learning disabilities. As such, adopting a socio-ecological or contextual approach to identifying the risk and protective factors for psychopathology in families of children with learning disabilities is especially important to the development of interventions to improve behavioural control as well as the motivational and socio-emotional aspects of challenging behaviours exhibited by children with learning disabilities. The relationship between psychology and religion has been widely debated in the field of psychology from its foundation as an empirical science to the present day. One author who was interested in the relationship between psychology and religion, the place of the latter in human nature, and its role in psychotherapy was the Viennese neurologist, psychiatrist, and philosopher Viktor Emil Frankl (1905–1997), the founder of logotherapy. This paper presents Frankl's main ideas about religion, the religious nature of the human being, and the relationship between religiosity, psychotherapy, and logotherapy, as well as a review of the main criticisms he has received in this regard. Frankl always defended the differences and limits between religion and psychotherapy, between the priestly cure of souls and the medical cure of souls, and between the salvific objective of religion and the hygienic objective of psychotherapy. Children who have been removed from their homes as a result of maltreatment and abuse and have been placed in foster care or are in the process of adoption often continue to meet their birth parents by court decision. This contact is often held under supervision. Supervised contact is intended to provide children the opportunity to maintain the parent-child relationship in a safe and neutral setting. Findings have shown that in some cases supervised contact can be harmful, undermining the children's sense of security and placement stability. It has been suggested that agencies have limited practice skills to help build constructive relationships through contact visits, and may thereby be failing to offer sufficient support for supervised contact. While the literature highlights various aspects that need to be implemented to improve visits, there is a lack of a trauma-informed approach, whereby professionals supervising visits can address the traumatic experiences that led to the circumstances of supervised visitation and respond to the difficult emotions of all those involved. This paper provides practice guidelines for professionals accompanying supervised visits using principles of Child-Parent Psychotherapy, a trauma-informed dyadic intervention model for young children. Case vignettes illustrate how professionals supervising contact might address the child's trauma history and help birth parents and foster/adoptive parents respond to the child's attachment needs following trauma, and how professionals can support birth parents and foster/adoptive parents, thereby promoting safety and improving child-parent interactions. The principles of CBT emphasize the interactions among cognition, emotion, and behavior. CBT's origins lie in Stoicism philosophy and share similarities with the ideas of Confucianism, Taoism, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in China. The idea of mind–body regulation in traditional Chinese culture has laid a cultural foundation for the promotion of CBT in China. This paper analyzes the applicability and challenges of CBT in China based on the current development of CBT in mainland China and the learning and practice of CBT therapists. The COVID-19 pandemic caused concern regarding suicide risk mitigation while requiring many clinicians to transition to telehealth. We hypothesized that this transition would increase suicide intent, suicide desire, and depressive symptom ratings from pre-COVID-19 to peri-COVID-19. Patients at a southeastern US outpatient psychotherapy training clinic reported on suicide risk and depressive symptoms before and after the transition to telehealth treatment. Additionally, the effect of continuation of treatment on suicide risk was also analyzed. Suicide risk levels (n=39) and depressive symptoms (n=25) did not increase following the transition to telehealth. Self-reported suicide desire ratings significantly decreased from pre- to peri-pandemic assessments. Findings suggest that telehealth, among other sociocultural factors, became somewhat of a "port in a storm," such that it may have provided protections from exacerbations of mental health concerns and further vulnerabilities towards increased suicide risk. Background: Adolescence is a critical period for social emotional development. The need to focus on social emotional competencies is exacerbated by the COVID 19 pandemic. Objective: This systematic review paper provides a collective account of mindfulness interventions conducted exclusively with adolescent students in an educational setting (mean age 11 to 18) with the sole focus on social emotional and behavioral competencies primarily as outlined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (Safe and sound: an educational leader's guide to evidence-based social and emotional learning programs, Author, Chicago, IL, 2003, 2011). Method: Mindfulness literature in the past 15 years, i.e., Jan 2008–Feb 2023 was reviewed. Additionally, the type of intervention implemented, dosage, delivery, measures used, and targets of intervention were examined. All the articles were also assessed for their methodological quality using the EPHPP quality assessment tool for quantitative studies (Effective Public Health Practice Project in Quality assessment tool for quantitative studies, Effective Public Health Practice Project, Hamilton, ON, 1998. https://merst.ca/ephpp/). Results: With less than one third of the 30 included studies rated as strong, there appears to be moderate evidence for the effectiveness of MBIs on adolescent social emotional competencies. Overall, there appears to be mixed evidence for the effectiveness of MBIs on adolescents' self-awareness, social awareness, social skills, with relatively more consistent evidence that MBIs positively impact their self-management (e.g., emotional regulation). We classify broader characteristics of the MBIs that could help explain some of the differences in effectiveness into three categories: intervention implementation related (e.g., dosage), method related (e.g., psychometric properties), and participant related (e.g., age and gender). Aimed at understanding and improving psychological therapies as they are conducted in clinical routine, practice-oriented research (POR) is now a well-established approach to the scientific foundations of mental health care services. Resting on the accumulation of a wide range of practice-based evidence related to treatment outcome and process, as well as factors associated with the participants of psychotherapy and its context, POR is ripe for new developments – regarding what to investigate and how to investigate it. This paper is the introduction of a series devoted to recent advances and future directions of POR as their pertained to routine outcome monitoring, technologies and artificial intelligence, the integration of constructs and methods from program evaluation and implementation science, and the investigation of populations with limited financial resources across various regions of the world. Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS) affects nearly 10% of the global population, leading to substantial economic and quality-of-life burdens. While patient education has improved outcomes in other chronic conditions, its impact on CRS remains understudied. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured patient education program on the psychological well-being and symptom severity of individuals diagnosed with CRS. This was a prospective, randomized controlled trial conducted in a tertiary care centre from January 2021 to December 2022. We enrolled 200 adult patients diagnosed with CRS based on the European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps guidelines. Participants were randomized into two groups: the control group, receiving conventional CRS medical management, and the intervention group, receiving conventional treatment plus a structured patient education program. By the end of the study, 100 participants from each group completed the 2-year follow-up. The intervention group showed significant improvements in psychological well-being, with HADS scores decreasing from 10 ± 3.5 to 7 ± 3.0. CRS symptom severity, as measured by SNOT-22 scores, also significantly improved in the intervention group, dropping from 45 ± 10 to 35 ± 9. Additionally, the intervention group had fewer acute CRS flare-ups over two years compared to the control group. Adherence to nasal spray usage was higher in the intervention group, and feedback on the educational program was largely positive. A structured patient education program, when added to conventional CRS treatment, enhances psychological well-being, and reduces symptom severity. Nature-based walking interventions represent a low-cost, eco-friendly activity, designed to assist people in maintaining physical well-being and improving their mental-health status. This systematic review aims to evaluate the evidence regarding the effectiveness of nature-based walking interventions in the improvement of mental health outcomes in adults. This paper draws upon Applied Social Sciences Index & Abstracts (ASSIA), PsycINFO, MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Web of Science Core Collection, Doctoral thesis databases (ProQuest), and manual searches. Due to the heterogeneity of the eligible studies, a narrative synthesis was employed. The present review includes 1,209 adult participants, of whom 336 were female; it also involves 17 discrete studies. The evidence from this systematic review suggests that nature-based walking interventions can indeed improve adults' moods, sense of optimism, mental well-being, and nature connectedness. They simultaneously mitigate stress, anxiety, and negative rumination. In addition, compared with urban walking, nature-based walking interventions may bring greater benefits vis-à-vis anxiety and rumination. This review contributes to the synthesis of evidence for nature-based walking interventions, and identifies several research gaps around the topic. In clinical practice, nature-based interventions may be used to relieve one's negative mood, stress, and anxiety. The increasing need for mental health support and a shortage of therapists have led to the development of the eXtended-reality Artificial Intelligence Assistant (XAIA). This platform combines spatial computing, virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide immersive mental health support. Utilizing GPT-4 for AI-driven therapy, XAIA engaged participants with mild-to-moderate anxiety or depression in biophilic VR environments. Speaking with an AI therapy avatar in VR was considered acceptable, helpful, and safe, with participants observed to engage genuinely with the program. However, some still favored human interaction and identified shortcomings with using a digital VR therapist. The study provides initial evidence of the acceptability and safety of AI psychotherapy via spatial computing, warranting further research on technical enhancements and clinical impact. Preparing the future mental health workforce requires clinicians to be able to adapt their clinical work to different mental and medical healthcare settings to meet the growing need for mental health services. Medical Family Therapists (MedFTs) are specifically trained to provide care for patients from a biopsychosocial-spiritual perspective in diverse clinical settings. Having a theoretical foundation is a necessity for MedFTs to be able to adapt their clinical work to different contexts. Solution-focused therapy provides such a foundation. This paper presents a case study to support the hypothesis that religiosity and spirituality (R/S), as mood balancing factors, could facilitate the recovery process for patients suffering from bipolar disorder (BD) once they have been stabilized and are receiving appropriate support (e.g., in a residential rehabilitative center). After a succinct review of BD and R/S, the patient's medical history and rehabilitation pathway are described, with a particular focus on the role played by R/S. The authors found that in this case, once the patient was stabilized, R/S helped to consolidate her feelings of well-being, increasing her positive perception of social support services and ultimately her self-confidence. In 1958, Apley and Naish authored a groundbreaking paper in Archives of Disease in Childhood, elucidating the epidemiology and risk factors of recurrent abdominal pain in children—a subject that had confounded clinicians of their time. Surprisingly, even after 65 years, there are several unanswered questions regarding the etiology, pathophysiology, and management of pediatric abdominal pain. Contrary to the prevailing notion that children naturally outgrow functional abdominal pain, compelling evidence suggests it's possible these children develop a number of clinically significant psychological issues that could profoundly impact their quality of life and, consequently, future health and educational outcomes. In this light, we aimed to comprehensively review the current literature to update the knowledge of practicing clinicians on functional abdominal pain, summarizing the evidence from the last 65 years.Conclusion: The enduring unanswered questions surrounding childhood abdominal pain continue to challenge clinicians, resulting in unnecessary investigations, thereby contributing to substantial healthcare expenditures. It is also evident that children with long-standing symptoms would progress to adulthood with the potential to develop irritable bowel syndrome and many psychological disturbances. Several key interventions using pharmacological agents, such as amitriptyline, showed that some of these drugs are no more effective than the placebo in clinical trials. Several research during the recent past suggest that psychological interventions such as gut-directed hypnotherapy alleviate symptoms and ensure better prognosis in the long run. Introduction: There is a need within counselling and psychotherapy to ensure their ability to respond to endemic presences such as the COVID-19 pandemic, by utilising rapid technological advances without compromising effectiveness. To do so, existing research about online group therapy must be built upon to provide a comprehensive understanding of the efficacious delivery of this therapy modality. Thus, a systematic review was conducted to collate what is currently known in the published and grey literature on online group therapy, using the PRISMA framework. Thirty-three articles were identified as including information regarding facilitating group therapy online. After appraising each article using appropriate quality appraisal tools, a thematic analysis was conducted on the papers, arriving at seven main themes summarising the main findings regarding online versus in-person groups, group planning, counselling micro skills, group processes, ethics, technology, and unique online therapy issues. There is a growing but incomplete body of knowledge that informs the group therapist regarding the ethical delivery of groups online. Co-occurring psychiatric conditions are very common in tic disorders and Tourette syndrome. These additional symptoms are often detrimental to quality of life and may impact upon the implementation and efficacy of evidence-based behavioural therapies (BT) for tics. Combining a review of the available literature, relevant theory, and expert clinical practice, we present a guideline for implementing behavioural and psychosocial interventions when common comorbidities are present. These include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, disruptive behaviour, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and depression. Practical recommendations are provided for assessment, formulation and management of specific and multiple comorbidities in BT for both children and adults. Despite comorbidities being common in tic disorders, few studies have comprehensively addressed how they may influence the efficacy or implementation of existing therapies or how such treatments may need to be modified or sequenced. We outline recommendations for future research, including randomised control trials of BT for those with specific or multiple comorbidities, as well as adequately powered sub-group analyses within larger scale trials or naturalistic study designs. Transdiagnostic models of psychiatric disorders and treatment, including modular cross-diagnostic therapies, which recognise the dimensionality of psychiatric disorders are also highlighted as an important focus in treatment development in tic disorders. Determinants at the contextual level are important for children's and adolescents' mental health care utilization, as this is the level where policy makers and care providers can intervene to improve access to and provision of care. The objective of this review was to summarize the evidence on contextual determinants associated with mental health care utilization in children and adolescents. A systematic literature search in five electronic databases was conducted in August 2021 and retrieved 6439 unique records. Based on eight inclusion criteria, 74 studies were included. Most studies were rated as high quality (79.7%) and adjusted for mental health problems (66.2%). The determinants that were identified were categorized into four levels: organizational, community, public policy or macro-environmental. There was evidence of a positive association between mental health care utilization and having access to a school-based health center, region of residence, living in an urban area, living in an area with high accessibility of mental health care, living in an area with high socio-economic status, having a mental health parity law, a mental health screening program, fee-for-service plan (compared to managed care plan), extension of health insurance coverage and collaboration between organizations providing care. For the other 35 determinants, only limited evidence was available. To conclude, this systematic review identifies ten contextual determinants of children's and adolescents' mental health care utilization, which can be influenced by policymakers and care providers. Purpose: Intimate partner violence (IPV) interventions for young people involved with the child welfare and legal systems are critical. However, researchers have yet to systematically assess this knowledge area. Methods: We conducted a systematic review to identify IPV interventions targeting young people involved with the legal and/or child welfare system. Six electronic databases were searched for quantitative and qualitative peer-reviewed articles that focused on IPV victimization and/or perpetration; included child welfare and/or legal system-involved young people aged 10 to 24 years; delivered an intervention; and reported outcome(s). Three researchers independently screened captured article abstracts; two researchers conducted full-text eligibility assessments. Data were extracted and findings were narratively summarized and compared. Results: We identified seven eligible studies: two child welfare and five legal system studies. Three studies focused on IPV perpetration only; two on IPV victimization and perpetration; two on IPV victimization only. Only two studies mentioned IPV types. One intervention was culturally-tailored. Two studies assessed IPV as an outcome, with the one focused on educating about power dynamics in romantic relationships and improving communication skill deficits reporting significant IPV reductions. Other improved outcomes were present across studies (e.g., IPV knowledge, trauma symptoms, condom use). Conclusion: Few IPV interventions focus on young people involved with the child welfare and/or legal system. We call for more research on this topic that is trauma-informed, culturally relevant, and includes all genders. The effectiveness of psychological interventions (PI) for malignant diseases is controversial. We aimed to investigate the effect of PI on survival and quality of life (QoL) in patients with cancer. We performed a systematic search of MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Embase databases to identify randomized controlled trials comparing PI to standard care (PROSPERO registration number CRD42021282327). Outcomes were overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and different domains of QoL. Subgroup analysis was performed based on the provider-, type-, environment-, duration of intervention; cancer stage, and type. Pooled hazard ratios (HR) and standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using a random-effects model. The OS and RFS did not differ significantly between the two groups (OS:HR = 0.97; CI 0.87–1.08; RFS:HR = 0.99; CI 0.84–1.16). However, there was significant improvement in the intervention group in all the analyzed domains of QoL; in the global (SMD = 0.65; CI 0.35–0.94), emotional (SMD = 0.64; CI 0.33–0.95), social (SMD = 0.32; CI 0.13–0.51) and physical (SMD = 0.33; CI 0.05–0.60) domains. The effect of PI on QoL was generally positive immediately, 12 and 24 weeks after intervention, but the effect decreased over time and was no longer found significant at 48 weeks. The results were better in the breast cancer group and early stages of cancer. PIs do not prolong survival, but they significantly improve the QoL of cancer patients. Trichophagia, or eating one's own hair, commonly occurs in individuals with trichotillomania. Minimizing the symptoms of trichotillomania and trichophagia and maintaining remission can encourage them to have healthy lives. Conduct a scoping review to investigate the efficacy of using psychotherapy interventions to minimize symptoms of trichotillomania and trichophagia among individuals with trichotillomania. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines to screen 19,552 studies published between 2010 and 2022. A total of 19 studies that fulfill the eligibility criteria reported that psychotherapy interventions had been effective and applicable approaches to minimizing the symptoms of trichotillomania and trichophagia. Psychotherapy interventions are a promising treatment that is regarded as a credible treatment approach to ensure long-term positive outcomes among individuals with trichotillomania. This scoping review verifies the formalization and incorporation of psychotherapy interventions into standard practice and highlights the importance of mental health practitioners using them to ensure long-term positive outcomes for individuals with trichotillomania. The aim of this research is to explore emotional processes occurring during educational dialogues on civic and social issues (EDCSI) by asking what factors arouse emotions in EDCSI, how do these factors interact, how do they affect the participants, and how this effect can be explained from the perspective of group therapy. EDCSI involves a complex set of emotions at the individual, inter-personal, and group levels that cannot only be explained by already existing frameworks used in educational research. Thirty-three students discussed civic and social issues using digital media in two different settings: a three-day learning seminar for secondary school students and an undergraduate university course. Using a cued retrospective reporting protocol, the students were interviewed and asked to refer to their overall experience in the discussions and to emotional moments they experienced. The analysis of the interviews shows that factors that arouse emotions pertain to the personal, interpersonal, and group dimensions, and often interact with each other. The emotional processes described by the participants were consistent with factors identified in the field of group psychotherapy such as instillation of hope, universality, imitative behaviors, and interpersonal learning. We therefore claim that research about emotional processes in group therapy may contribute to understanding the multi-level emotional processes occurring in EDCSI and that psychotherapy practices may inspire educators in designing and facilitating EDCSI. Chat-based counseling hotlines emerged as a promising low-threshold intervention for youth mental health. However, despite the resulting availability of large text corpora, little work has investigated Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications within this setting. Therefore, this preregistered approach (OSF: XA4PN) utilizes a sample of approximately 19,000 children and young adults that received a chat consultation from a 24/7 crisis service in Germany. Around 800,000 messages were used to predict whether chatters would contact the service again, as this would allow the provision of or redirection to additional treatment. We trained an XGBoost Classifier on the words of the anonymized conversations, using repeated cross-validation and bayesian optimization for hyperparameter search. The best model was able to achieve an AUROC score of 0.68 (p < 0.01) on the previously unseen 3942 newest consultations. A shapely-based explainability approach revealed that words indicating younger age or female gender and terms related to self-harm and suicidal thoughts were associated with a higher chance of recontacting. Adolescent depression is a prevalent and disabling condition, but current psychological treatments are only moderately effective. One way to enhance outcomes is to further our understanding of adolescent depression and improve our capacity to target the most frequently reported and problematic symptoms. A common but often neglected symptom of depression is fatigue, which is associated with considerable impairment and has the potential to interfere with adolescents' engagement in psychological therapies. Despite this, the experience of fatigue in adolescent depression and how we target it in treatment is currently poorly understood. Therefore, we aimed to explore adolescents' experiences and understandings of fatigue in depression, recruiting from clinical and community settings. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 19 UK-based adolescents aged 14–18 years old with elevated symptoms of depression. Using reflexive thematic analysis, three themes were generated. Fatigue is a complex concept explored adolescents' understanding of fatigue as a dynamic, multifaceted symptom which had mental and physical components. Trapped in a cycle of fatigue considered the complex and reciprocal relationship between fatigue and other depressive symptoms, and the subsequent impact of limited energy on engagement with everyday activities. Finally, stigma as a barrier to help-seeking highlighted how adolescents were reluctant to seek help due to experienced stigma and the perception that fatigue was not a serious enough symptom. Findings from this study suggest that fatigue should be viewed as a psychological as well as somatic symptom of depression, with implications regarding the identification and treatment of fatigue in depression in routine clinical practice. To maintain current cognitive function and access greater cognitive reserves, nonpharmacological interventions may be a viable alternative for older adults with or without cognitive impairment. This study aimed to compare different nonpharmacological interventions for enhancing global cognition, including mind–body exercise, physical exercise, non-invasive brain stimulation, cognitive training intervention (CTI), acutherapy (ACU), meditation, and music therapy, by applying a network meta-analysis (NMA). Sixty-one randomized controlled trials evaluating the efficacy of interventions on global cognition in older adults with or without mild cognitive decline were selected. An NMA was conducted to compare the efficacy of different nonpharmacological interventions. The NMA revealed that mind–body exercise (standardized mean difference, 1.384; 95% confidence interval, 0.777–1.992); ACU (1.283; 0.478–2.088); meditation (0.910; 0.097–1.724); non-invasive brain stimulation (1.242; 0.254–2.230); CTI (1.269; 0.736–1.802); and physical exercise (0.977; 0.212–1.742), showed positive effects compared to passive controls. There were no significant differences between the efficacies of other interventions. Nonpharmacological interventions may potentially enhance and maintain global cognition through various pathways, such as memorizing movements and enhancing brain plasticity by reducing stress in the older adult population. Background: The availability of consistent psychological therapy within acute inpatient psychiatric units and the integration of psychologists into multi-disciplinary inpatient teams is a newly evolving development in mental healthcare. To the authors' knowledge, there has been no examination of the inpatient multi-disciplinary team's (MDT) perspective on how psychology can be best integrated into the team in Lebanon. This study aims to explore the perceptions of different medical personnel working within an MDT on the role of psychologists in an acute psychiatry inpatient unit in Lebanon. It is qualitative in nature, using a semi-structured interview design. The overarching aim of this study is to assess and identify the gaps in the MDT's insight into the various responsibilities of psychologists which may result in more efficient collaborative teamwork and hence overall patient care. Results: Four primary themes are identified from the findings of our study. The themes highlighted the value of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, the vital roles that psychologists play in direct clinical work and supporting other staff members, important factors related to patient-centered psychological care, limitations that exist in the inpatient unit, and suggestions for improvement. Conclusion: This study served as a baseline for more research and development of psychological services in the psychiatric inpatient units of Lebanon, emphasizing the integral role of psychology in patient care. Purpose: The restrictions imposed during lockdown by COVID-19 pandemic entailed increased risks for the perpetration of intimate partner violence (IPV). Widespread fear and uncertainty related to the virus and the policies adopted to contain it have been linked to a set of social, emotional, and economic stressors that can increase the risk of IPV. The present study aims to assess the association between COVID-19-related anxiety, psychological distress (depression, anxiety, and stress), and IPV perpetration in the community, as well as to assess the mediating role of psychological distress and depression, anxiety, and stress in the relationship between COVID-19-related anxiety and the perpetration of IPV. Methods: A sample of 336 participants (282 females, Mage = 34.91, SD = 11.72) was recruited from the Portuguese population through an online self-report questionnaire, completed after the second lockdown (from April and July 2021). Results: High rates of IPV perpetration during the confinement, in particular psychological and physical IPV, were found. COVID-19-related anxiety and psychological distress (depression, anxiety, and stress) were related to higher levels of IPV perpetration. Psychological distress and stress mediated the relationship between COVID-19-related anxiety and total IPV perpetration and psychological distress and depression mediated the relationship between COVID-19-related anxiety and psychological IPV perpetration. Conclusions: This study highlights the mediating role of psychological distress on IPV perpetration. Practical implications for intervention policies in IPV perpetration will be discussed. Utilizing multiple informants to assess children's depressive symptoms increases diagnostic accuracy, reliability, and validity of inferences. However, previous studies have found low to moderate agreement among informants. We applied network statistics to gain insight into children and their mothers' differential perceptions of depressive symptoms. The sample included children and mother dyads (n = 185) who applied to psychotherapy services at an outpatient university clinic. Mothers filled out the Child Behavior Checklist, which includes a depression subscale, and children filled out the Children's Depression Inventory. We computed association networks for thirteen depressive symptoms separately for children and mothers using the graphical LASSO. Sadness had the highest strength centrality in the networks of both children and mothers, but the pattern of connectivity and centrality of other symptoms differed. Numerous studies have indicated a connection between psychiatric symptoms, specifically anxiety and depression, and gastroesophageal reflux. However, the precise nature of the link between the severity of gastroesophageal reflux disease and the severity of anxiety and depression remains uncertain. Here, we gathered 24-h pH monitoring data and baseline patient information from a cohort of 518 individuals. Additionally, we evaluated their psychological well-being using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. The relationship between baseline characteristics and varying degrees of anxiety, depression, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was assessed using R software version 4.1.3 and logistic regression models. The findings indicate a statistically significant variation in anxiety levels based on gender, as well as a significant disparity in depression groups when considering age and literacy levels. Kruskal–Wallis test analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the severity of anxiety and depression and the 24-h pH monitoring results in our patient cohort. As the anxiety and depression levels increased, the rank mean for each examination result also increased. Logistic regression modeling analysis showed that a higher anxiety level was associated with a higher level of GERD. In the presence of mild anxiety, there is a statistically significant association with a higher incidence of GERD with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.64 (95% CI 1.50, 4.64). Similarly, the moderately severe anxiety group also exhibits a causal relationship with an increased GERD incidence, with an OR of 6.84 (95% CI 3.92, 12.17). Additionally, moderate to severe depression is associated with a higher incidence of GERD, with an OR of 2.32 (95% CI 1.23, 4.37). The prevalence of GERD was greater among males compared to females (OR 2.29, 95% CI 1.51–3.49). Additionally, an elevated body mass index (BMI) demonstrated a positive correlation with the susceptibility to GERD (OR 1.07, 95% CI 1.01–1.14). Increasing age may promote the occurrence of GERD in patients. These findings may help to provide a better basis for psychological or pharmacological interventions for GERD patients with psychosomatic symptoms in the future, and provide a reference basis for clinical treatment of the disease. Hypnosis is a psychological intervention that is commonly used to enhance the effectiveness of therapeutic suggestions. Despite extensive fascination and study, the neural mechanisms behind hypnosis remain elusive. In the current study, we undertook a systematic exploration of these neural correlates. We first extracted well-studied neurophysiological features from EEG sensors and source-localized data using spectral analysis and two measures of functional connectivity: weighted phase lag index (wPLI) and power envelope correlation (PEC). Next, we developed classification models that predicted self-rated hypnotic experience based on the extracted feature sets. Our findings reveal that gamma power computed on sensor-level data and beta PEC computed between source-localized brain networks are the top predictors of hypnosis depth. Further, a SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analysis suggested reduced gamma power in the midline frontal area and increased beta PEC between interhemispheric Dorsal Attention Networks (DAN) contribute to the hypnotic experience. These results broaden our understanding of the neural correlates of deep hypnosis, highlighting potential targets for future research. Moreover, this study demonstrates the potential of using predictive models in understanding the neural underpinnings of self-reported hypnotic depth, offering a template for future investigations. Unconscious processes lead to maladaptive behaviors, while people use various defense mechanisms to cope with stressful and traumatic memories. Bringing the unconscious to consciousness is essential for treating such inner conflicts. Art history therapy, which brings together art history and psychology, aims to accelerate clients' self-disclosure to the therapist by bringing their unconscious to consciousness through artworks, thereby establishing the therapeutic alliance. As objects of art history, artworks can trigger associations with childhood experiences in clients. Discussing an artwork can enable clients to express their repressed feelings, thoughts, and memories more easily without fear of being judged by the therapist. The therapy also aims to increase psychological well-being through an aesthetic experience using plastic or visual artworks as the materials. Moreover, clients can benefit from the healing power of art in psychotherapy that self-disclosure provides catharsis to enable clients to discharge the negative emotions connected to traumatic events. After a preliminary client interview, an art historian and clinical psychologist create a repertoire of artworks that are generally appreciated in art history and reflect the characteristics of different periods and artists. The artworks used depend on each client's psychological state and symptoms. However, the main factor in selecting the artworks is to make it easier for clients to remember their experiences and increase their psychological well-being by providing an aesthetic experience. During therapy sessions, first of all, clients interpret the artwork while the therapist makes connections between these interpretations and the client's experiences. Cultural bridging may alleviate and catalyze the therapeutic process and help to match therapeutic interventions and patient preferences. In this article, we propose to enhance Western-originated prevention and treatment of depression (behavioral activation) with an Eastern-originated cultural concept of the purpose of living (ikigai). Behavioral activation (BA) is an effective standard method (within cognitive-behavior therapy) to treat depression, whereas ikigai is a Japanese life philosophy attitude. Both approaches share the fundamental idea that the reflection of personal values guides the individual's everyday decisions. In the present narrative review, we try to explain and systematically compare both approaches to explore the possibilities of their meaningful integration. While the literature underscored the striking similarity between the fundamental ideas of both concepts, the main difference is that ikigai, as a traditional, non-psychotherapeutic approach, refers more to intuition and metaphorical heuristics. Psychological interventions, especially those leveraging mobile and wireless technologies, often include multiple components that are delivered and adapted on multiple timescales (e.g., coaching sessions adapted monthly based on clinical progress, combined with motivational messages from a mobile device adapted daily based on the person's daily emotional state). The hybrid experimental design (HED) is a new experimental approach that enables researchers to answer scientific questions about the construction of psychological interventions in which components are delivered and adapted on different timescales. These designs involve sequential randomizations of study participants to intervention components, each at an appropriate timescale (e.g., monthly randomization to different intensities of coaching sessions and daily randomization to different forms of motivational messages). The goal of the current manuscript is twofold. The first is to highlight the flexibility of the HED by conceptualizing this experimental approach as a special form of a factorial design in which different factors are introduced at multiple timescales. We also discuss how the structure of the HED can vary depending on the scientific question(s) motivating the study. The second goal is to explain how data from various types of HEDs can be analyzed to answer a variety of scientific questions about the development of multicomponent psychological interventions. For illustration, we use a completed HED to inform the development of a technology-based weight loss intervention that integrates components that are delivered and adapted on multiple timescales. Psychological interventions can help reduce posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in youth, but many do not seek help. Internet- and mobile-based interventions (IMIs) show promise in expanding treatment options. However, the overall evidence on IMIs in reducing PTSS among youth remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the efficacy of IMIs in PTSS reduction for youth exposed to traumatic events. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in January 2023 including non-randomized and randomized-controlled trials (RCT) investigating the effects of IMIs on PTSS in youth aged ≤25 years. Six studies were identified with five providing data for the meta-analysis. The majority of studies included youth with different types of trauma irrespective of PTSS severity at baseline (k = 5). We found a small within-group effect in reducing PTSS from baseline to post-treatment (g = −0.39, 95% CrI: −0.67 to −0.11, k = 5; n = 558; 9 comparisons). No effect emerged when comparing the effect of IMIs to control conditions (g = 0.04; 95%-CrI: -0.52 to 0.6, k = 3; n = 768; k = 3; 4 comparisons). Heterogeneity was low between and within studies. All studies showed at least some concerns in terms of risk of bias. Current evidence does not conclusively support the overall efficacy of IMIs in addressing youth PTSS. This review revealed a scarcity of studies investigating IMIs for youth exposed to traumatic events, with most being feasibility studies rather than adequately powered RCTs and lacking a trauma focus. Metastatic breast cancer could cause various psychological symptoms. Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM) is a brief, manualized psychotherapy that has been validated for advanced cancer patients. We conducted a pilot randomized control trial (RCT) to verify the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of CALM therapy in this population. Patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned into CALM or Wait-list Control (WLC) groups. Patients in the CALM group received CALM therapy and usual care; patients in WLC group first received usual care and then underwent CALM therapy after completing all assessments. All patients were asked to complete three assessments: T0(baseline), T1(3 months), and T2(6 months). The primary outcomes was death anxiety; other outcomes were depression, distress, suicide ideation, attachment security, spiritual well-being and quality of life at the end of life. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) and t-test were used for statistics analysis. Thirty-six patients were randomly assigned to either of the two groups, with 34 patients completing the three assessments. At six months, we found significant between group differences in suicide ideation, distress, and life completion between the CALM and WLC groups. At T2, patients in CALM group reported lower levels of depression (F = 5.016, p = 0.033, partial η2 = 0.143), distress (F = 7.969, p = 0.010, partial η2 = 0.257), attachment avoidance (F = 4.407, p = 0.044, partial η2 = 0.128), and better sense of life completion (F = 5.493, p = 0.026, partial η2 = 0.155) than patients in the WLC group. Compared with results of the T0 assessments, we found significant differences in socres for depression (T2&T0, t = − 2.689, p = 0.011, Cohen's d = 0.940) and distress (T2&T0, t = − 2.453, p = 0.022, Cohen's d = 0.965) between the two groups. CALM therapy was well received by the study population, and CALM therapy can reduce depression, distress, attachment avoidance while improving quality of life in Chinese metastatic breast cancer patients. A Phase III RCT was recommended to verify the impact of CALM therapy on psychological burden and survival in this population. The pervasiveness of social networking sites (SNSs) has led to renewed interest in the topic of online compulsive buying. These platforms possess unique characteristics that facilitate both social comparison and buying behavior. However, little research has explored the relationship between upward social comparison and online compulsive buying in the context of Chinese SNSs. Moreover, little is known about the underlying mechanism mediating and moderating this association. Drawing the Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution model (I-PACE) for addictive behaviors, this study developed and examined a moderated mediation model which integrates upward social comparison on SNSs, online compulsive buying, envy, and gratitude to address this gap. The data was collected from 616 college students in China and analyzed using latent moderated structural equation. The results reveal that upward social comparison on SNSs could positively predict online compulsive buying, and envy partially mediates this relationship. Interestingly, gratitude moderates the effects of upward social comparison on envy, that is, envy is a moderated mediator. Specifically, college students with high gratitude experience less envy in upward social comparison compared to those who with low gratitude. These findings are not only valuable for understanding the underlying mechanisms linking social comparison on SNSs and online compulsive buying, but also contribute to the development of psychological intervention programs (e.g., intervention based on gratitude or envy) aiming at reducing people's online compulsive buying. Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) offers vast potential in sustainable development through social progress and economic growth. Youths ought to take advantage of the sustainable development opportunities offered by IR4.0 in pursuit of the national agenda for sustainability. This study seeks to examine the relationships between psychological capital (PsyCap), employee engagement (EE), transfer of training (TOT), and organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) among youth participants of IR4.0 in Sarawak. Data were collected from 251 working youths who were trained under Industrial Revolution 4.0 initiatives. Results revealed that PsyCap was positively related to EE, TOT, and OCB. EE and TOT were also found to be positively influence OCB. Additionally, TOT was found to mediate the relationship between PsyCap and OCB. This study contributes through the incorporation of digital competency into the TOT construct to examine the transfer of digital competencies. Besides, the model reflects the interplay between personal resource (PsyCap) and job resource (TOT) to influence effective organisational functioning (represented by OCB) through a motivational process. Findings suggest practical implications whereby organisations should engage pre-training psychological capital intervention to increase rate of training transfer whilst developing digital competencies of the workforce. Additionally, policymakers should formulate policies through training subsidies and tax exemptions for organisations to help strengthen youth conviction and resilience to facilitate their career progression. Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects both children and adults. AD increases the risk of developing comorbidities like asthma, allergic rhinitis and food allergies. AD patients face difficulties, including itching, lack of effective treatments, lack of funding and discomfort in seeking a diagnosis or treatment. This study aims to identify the main barriers and opportunities to improve the experience of patients with AD and provide high-quality care. Methods: Patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals were recruited from the Dermatology Department at Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda University Hospital (Madrid, Spain). Interviews with patients, caregivers and professionals were performed. Participants used storyboards to depict their preferred scenarios for improving healthcare interactions and create a Patient Journey Map. Results: A total of 15 participants were included in the study. Early symptoms of AD were commonly described as undefined stages. As symptoms worsened, patients and caregivers expressed uncertainty and frustration. Patients became concerned about AD after their first serious flare and started experiencing intense itching, eczema, wounds, shedding or asthma. Topical corticosteroids were used to manage flares, but their effectiveness diminished over time, causing further frustration. Because of the ineffectiveness of their initial treatments, dermatologists observed that patients tended to downplay symptoms and how they affected their quality of life. The specialized treatment of severe AD significantly changed patients' emotional states. Despite AD's chronic nature, patients strived to enjoy remission periods and cope with flares. Psychological and emotional support was crucial for patients and caregivers, a need addressed by the Patients' School initiative at HUPHM hospital. Conclusion: The severity of AD has a profound impact on patients' lives. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the efficacy and acceptability of systemic therapy in treatment of children and adolescents with depression. Six databases were used to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) applying systemic therapy (ST). Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted to estimate efficacy and acceptability of intervention. The primary outcome of efficacy was defined as changes of depressive symptoms. Secondary outcomes of efficacy included response rate and function improvement. Nine RCTs (n = 640) were included. For the immediate efficacy of depressive symptoms, ST was superior to waiting-list (WL) (n = 117, SMD -1.75, 95% CI -2.96 to -0.54), similar to treat as usual (TAU) (n = 146, SMD -0.45, 95% CI -1.14 to 0.24) or supportive psychotherapy (n = 263, SMD -0.04, 95%CI -0.28 to 0.20), superior to psychodynamic psychotherapy (n = 72, SMD -0.66, 95%CI -1.13 to -0.18) and inferior to cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) (n = 72, SMD 0.58, 95%CI 0.11 to 1.05). About response rate, ST (47.7%) was superior to WL, similar to TAU and supportive therapy and dynamic psychotherapy, and inferior to CBT. ST was comparable to CBT, supportive therapy and dynamic therapy on function improvement (SMD 0.18, 95% CI -0.12 to 0.49). As for acceptability, no significant difference was found between ST (11.9%) and controls (OR 0.97, 95%CI 0.61 to 1.56). In treating youths with depression, ST was superior to WL, similar to supportive psychotherapy and TAU, inferior to CBT, similar or superior to dynamic psychotherapy on symptoms relief. How medical students cope with stress predicts their mental health and academic/clinical performances, making the promotion of functional copy strategies a relevant outcome for medical educators. Empathy has been reported to be connected with coping. This study wanted to explore the most used coping strategies and whether gender differences existed, and to investigate whether and to what extent empathy affected coping in a sample of pre-clinical medical students. In a cross-sectional study design, the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) and the Coping Orientations to the Problems Experienced - New Italian Version (COPE-NIV) were administered to 398 (53% females) Italian second-year medical students. T-tests and multiple regression analyses were used to explore gender differences and the association between IRI and COPE-NIV scores, respectively. Problem Orientation obtained the highest mean score, whereas Avoidance the lowest one. Females outscored males on Social Support (t = 4.95, p <.001) and Transcendent Orientation (t = 4.04, p <.001). After controlling for gender, Empathic Concern was positively associated with Social Support (β = 0.223, p =.001) and Transcendent Orientation (β = 0.234, p =.001). Perspective Taking was positively and negatively associated with Positive Attitude (β = 0.248, p <.001) and Transcendent Orientation (β = − 0.180, p =.008), respectively. Personal Distress was negatively related to Problem Orientation (β = − 0.250, p <.001). Educational and psychological counselling interventions targeting empathy should be implemented in the pre-clinical years to equip medical students to cope functionally with the emotional distress linked to medical school. People with substance use disorders (SUD) have a high prevalence of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and mental health disorders. We aimed to assess the impact of integrated HCV treatment on psychological distress measured by Hopkins-symptom-checklist-10 (SCL-10). This multi-center randomized controlled trial evaluated psychological distress as a secondary outcome of integrated HCV treatment (INTRO-HCV trial). From 2017 to 2019, 289 participants were randomly assigned to receive either integrated or standard HCV treatment with direct-acting antiviral therapy. Integrated HCV treatment was delivered in eight decentralized outpatient opioid agonist therapy clinics and two community care centers; standard treatment was delivered in internal medicine outpatient clinics at centralized hospitals. Participants in the integrated treatment arm had a sustained virologic response of 93% compared to 73% for those in standard treatment arm. Psychological distress was assessed using SCL-10 prior to initiation of HCV treatment and 12 weeks after treatment completion. The mean SCL-10 score prior to HCV treatment was 2.2 (standard deviation [SD]: 0.7) for patients receiving integrated HCV treatment and 2.2 (SD: 0.8) for those receiving standard HCV treatment. Twelve weeks after the end of treatment, the mean SCL-10 score change was − 0.1 (− 0.3;0.0) in the integrated compared to the standard arm. Literature showed that the link between right-wing attitudes and ethnocentric attitudes gets stronger under existential threats, but the role exerted by an impersonal threat – as COVID-19 – on right-wing attitudes is still unclear. This study aimed to highlight the role of anxiety exerted by the impersonal COVID-19 threat on the relationship between right-wing attitudes and ethnocentric attitudes, as nationalism and anti-immigrants' sentiments. As part of an international project to evaluate the impact of COVID-19, this study administered an online survey to a representative sample (n 1038). The anxiety generated by an impersonal threat as COVID-19 – thus not exerted by any outgroup – can moderate the relationship among personal Right-Wing Authoritarianism, social dominance orientation, and ethnocentric attitudes. This is the first study demonstrating that existential threat is effective also when exerted by an impersonal agent (as COVID-19) rather than by an outgroup. Evidence-based and person-centred care requires the measurement of treatment outcomes that matter to youth and mental health practitioners. Priorities, however, may vary not just between but also within stakeholder groups. This study used Q-methodology to explore differences in outcome priorities among mental health practitioners from two countries in relation to youth depression. Practitioners from the United Kingdom (UK) (n = 27) and Chile (n = 15) sorted 35 outcome descriptions by importance and completed brief semi-structured interviews about their sorting rationale. By-person principal component analysis (PCA) served to identify distinct priority profiles within each country sample; second-order PCA examined whether these profiles could be further reduced into cross-cultural "super profiles". We identified three UK outcome priority profiles (Reduced symptoms and enhanced well-being; improved individual coping and self-management; improved family coping and support), and two Chilean profiles (Strengthened identity and enhanced insight; symptom reduction and self-management). These could be further reduced into two cross-cultural super profiles: one prioritized outcomes related to reduced depressive symptoms and enhanced well-being; the other prioritized outcomes related to improved resilience resources within youth and families. A practitioner focus on symptom reduction aligns with a long-standing focus on symptomatic change in youth depression treatment studies, and with recent measurement recommendations. Less data and guidance are available to those practitioners who prioritize resilience outcomes. To raise the chances that such practitioners will engage in evidence-based practice and measurement-based care, measurement guidance for a broader set of outcomes may be needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
