With a significant number of mechanical products approaching the retirement phase, the batch recycling of discarded mechanical parts necessitates a preliminary assessment of their surface condition. However, the presence of surface rust poses a challenge to defect identification. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for detecting heavily rusted surface defects based on an improved YOLOv8n network. In the Backbone, the C2f-DBB module of re-parameterized deep feature extraction was introduced, and the attention module was designed to improve the accuracy of information extraction. In the Neck part, a Bi-Afpn multiscale feature fusion strategy is designed to facilitate information exchange between features at different scales. Finally, Focal-CIoU is employed as the bounding box loss function to enhance the network's localization performance and accuracy for defects. Experimentally, it is proved that the improved network in this paper improves the Recall, Precision, and mAP0.5 by 1.2%, 2.1%, and 1.9%, respectively, on the original basis, which is better than other network models. The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and the advanced wireless technologies of 5G and beyond are expected to enable diverse applications such as autonomous driving, industrial automation, and smart cities. These applications bring together a vast and diverse IoT device population that occupy radio frequency spectrum. Such a large number of wireless devices expose previously unheard-of threat surfaces in addition to the bandwidth shortage and throughput issues. Device identification is crucial in such scenarios not only to authenticate and authorize nodes, but also to employ different network services. One of the promising solutions for device identification is the use of radio frequency (RF) fingerprinting. Recently, wireless device identification using RF fingerprinting along with machine learning and deep learning technologies showed outstanding results in the recent contemporary domains. This paper presents a systematic literature review of RF fingerprinting identification of wireless devices by presenting the results as a graphical and tabular representation of statistical data obtained. Only experimental research papers were considered of over 130 journals and international conference papers that have been classified and evaluated from the year 2010 till date. This survey focuses on exploring the commonly used RF fingerprinting approaches, feature extraction and filtration techniques, and classification algorithm used in the device identification. Microscopic image analysis technology helps solve the inadvertences of artificial traditional methods in disease, wastewater treatment, and environmental change monitoring analysis. Convolutional neural network (CNN) play an important role in microscopic image analysis. Image segmentation, in which U-Net is increasingly applied in microscopic image segmentation, is a crucial step in detection, tracking, monitoring, feature extraction, modelling, and analysis. This paper comprehensively reviews the development history of U-Net, analyses several research results of various segmentation methods since the emergence of U-Net, and conducts a comprehensive review of related papers. This paper summarised the improved methods of U-Net and then listed the existing significance of image segmentation techniques and their improvements introduced over the years. Finally, focusing on the different improvement strategies of U-Net in different papers, the related work of each application target is reviewed according to detailed technical categories to facilitate future research. Cancelable biometrics serves as an effective countermeasure against various template attacks launched by intruders, safeguarding the biometric system. This paper proposes a cancelable approach with a novel feature extraction technique for iris recognition, known as the hybrid architecture of the convolutional neural network (CNN) and GRU (gated recurrent unit). To provide cancelability to the system, the paper makes use of a random projection technique. The proposed method has the best outcome in terms of accurate identification. The method is validated on two Iris datasets IITD and MMU, which show promising results on the equal error rate (EER) and accuracy. The proposed model provides 0.02 and 0.045 EER for IITD and MMU, respectively, and accuracy 0.98 and 0.933%, for IITD and MMU Iris dataset, respectively, which is very high compared to other methodologies. The proposed hybrid architecture is being used for a cancelable biometric system for the first time based on literature review. At present, in end-to-end network combined with deep learning in stereo matching, how to perceive ample image details within an acceptable range of computational cost, so as to improve the final matching accuracy, has become a hot research topic. In this paper, we design a cascaded disparity correction network based on DispNet, which can refine the initial disparity image by combining the process output results in the trunk network. The method proposed in this paper is named ETE–DC–CNN (end to end–disparity correction–convolutional neural network). In the trunk network, the mixed dilated convolution module is employed to extract the features of the original image, and the feature image is constructed into a 3D disparity space volume through depth-separable convolution, after which the initial disparity image can be obtained through 2D encoder–decoder module. In the correction network, the gradient information of the initial feature image is combined to reconstruct the modified matching cost body guided by the initial disparity image and then a smaller encoder–decoder module is trained and processed to make the final result at the sub-pixel level. The algorithm in this paper has been verified in SceneFlow and KITTI 2012/2015 data sets. The method proposed in this article achieves 3.46, 2.12, 1.19, and 0.6 results in the non-occluded area and 4.04, 2.55, 1.58, and 0.7 results in the global area on the Er (> 2 px), Er (> 3 px), Er (> 5 px), and Epe indicators in the KITTI 2012 test set, which are higher than those of the backbone network DispNet. With the rapid development of information transfer technology and the influence of complex electromagnetic environment, the signal components in communication systems are becoming more and more complex, and the spectrum congestion is further aggravated, which seriously affects the performance of communication systems. Single-channel blind source separation technology is an effective solution, but the existing algorithms are deficient in terms of estimation accuracy, time delay and computational complexity. Based on the powerful feature extraction capability and timing signal processing capability of deep learning, this paper proposes an end-to-end time-domain blind separation convolutional network structure, including three parts: encoder, separation module and decoder. The attention mechanism module is also introduced into the encoding layer of the network to enhance the deep feature extraction ability of the network, highlight the influence of important timing features of communication signals, further improve the separation performance and enhance the practicality of the network. The experimental results show that the algorithm has superior performance and can effectively separate the mixed communication signal of various modulation types, and it can also extract own-side communication signals from high-power masked signals. Compared with the existing algorithms, the network in this paper has high separation accuracy and low computational complexity, which breaks the bottleneck of traditional single-channel blind separation algorithms in complex communication electromagnetic environment. Automated and accurate detection of power quality (PQ) events is important from the point of view of safety as well as maintaining the reliability of the power transmission and distribution network. However, detection of multiple PQ events in a noisy environment is challenging task. Another important issue is the choice of meaningful features that can directly influence the accuracy of PQ detection. Considering these two aforesaid facts, this paper presents a novel framework for automated classification of PQ signals in a noisy environment employing cross Stockwell Transform (XST). The XST proposed in this paper has better noise suppression capability compared to conventional Stockwell Transform. Here, XST was used to convert 1D PQ signals to 2D time–frequency (T–F) images. To improve the accuracy of PQ detection, an automated feature extraction method employing deep learning is implemented in this work. The noise free T–F images obtained using XST were fed as inputs to several pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for deep feature extraction. Transfer learning technique was implemented to reduce the computational cost. The extracted deep features were further undergone selection using one-way analysis of variance test followed by false discovery rate correction. The statistically significant deep features were subsequently fed to three benchmark machine learning classifiers for classification of PQ signals. In addition, tests were also carried out on real-life PQ signals to verify the practicability of the proposed framework. Lung cancer is an uncontrolled growth of tissue causing a lump in the human lung. If lung cancer can be detected early, it can increase the survival rate. Therefore, a multi-classification approach of lung nodule detection with high computational effectiveness is required. In this paper, a multi-classification approach of lung nodule detection and classification is proposed using artificial intelligence on computed tomography (CT) scan images. Different preprocessing steps are applied for resizing, smoothing, and enhancement of the CT images. Then, two different approaches for feature extraction using VGG16 transfer learning and morphological segmentation are proposed. Morphological segmentation and feature extraction are applied for the segmentation of the region of interest and to extract the distinct features. Finally, the proposed deep learning architecture and seven different machine learning algorithms are applied on the preprocessed data and the extracted features for the classification of lung nodules into three classes: malignant, benign, and normal. It is observed that the stacked ensemble model of deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) and VGG16 transfer learning models (CNN+VGG16) can achieve 99.55% accuracy using preprocessed data. It is also observed that all the ML algorithms perform with reasonably high accuracy using the low-dimensional morphological features. It is observed from the fivefold cross-validation results that logistic regression performs with 99.36% accuracy in 23.71 s time using the preprocessed data. Whereas, using the morphological features, k-nearest neighbor, and the support vector machine perform with the highest accuracy of 99.76% with very reduced computational time of 0.017 and 0.008 s, respectively. In this paper, a method based on transfer learning is proposed to recover the three-dimensional shape of cultural relics faces from a single old photo. It can simultaneously reconstruct the three-dimensional facial structure and align the texture of the cultural relics with fewer training samples. The UV position map is used to represent the three-dimensional shape in space and act as the output of the network. A convolutional neural network is used to reconstruct the UV position map from a single 2D image. In the training process, the human face data is used for pre-training, and then a small amount of artifact data is used for fine-tuning. A deep learning model with strong generalization ability is trained with fewer artifact data, and a three-dimensional model of the cultural relic face can be reconstructed from a single old photograph. The methods can train more complex deep networks without a large amount of cultural relic data, and no over-fitting phenomenon occurs, which effectively solves the problem of fewer cultural relic samples. The method is verified by restoring a Chinese Terracotta Warrior with facial cracks and a Buddha with a broken nose. Other applications can be used in the fields such as texture recovery, facial feature extraction, and three-dimensional model estimation of the damaged cultural relics or sculptures in the photos. The magnetic flux leakage (MFL) technique is widely employed for nondestructive testing of ferromagnetic specimens and materials, including wire ropes, bridge cables, and pipelines. As regards the MFL testing, extracting features from MFL signals is crucial for defect recognition and estimation of corresponding widths. Deep learning has been extensively used for feature extraction, but it often performs inadequately on a small sample dataset. To address this limitation, this paper develops a network framework that combines the Wavelet Scattering Transform (WST) and Neural Networks (NN) for defect width estimation. The WST is a knowledge-based feature extraction technique with a structure similar to convolutional neural networks. It offers a translation-invariant representation of signal features using a redundant dictionary of wavelets. The NN then maps the WST feature representation to the defect width information. Experiments on real steel plates with defects are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. Quantitative comparisons of the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework achieves better estimation performance in handling MFL signals and has superiority in scenarios with limited training samples. This paper proposes an approach to enhance the differentiation task between benign and malignant Breast Tumors (BT) using histopathology images from the BreakHis dataset. The main stages involve preprocessing, which encompasses image resizing, data partitioning (training and testing sets), followed by data augmentation techniques. Both feature extraction and classification tasks are employed by a Custom CNN. The experimental results show that the proposed approach using the Custom CNN model exhibits better performance with an accuracy of 84% than applying the same approach using other pretrained models, including MobileNetV3, EfficientNetB0, Vgg16, and ResNet50V2, that present relatively lower accuracies, ranging from 74 to 82%; these four models are used as both feature extractors and classifiers. To increase the accuracy and other performance metrics, Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO), and Modified Gorilla Troops Optimization (MGTO) metaheuristic optimizers are applied to each model separately for hyperparameter tuning. In this case, the experimental results show that the Custom CNN model, refined with MGTO optimization, reaches an exceptional accuracy of 93.13% in just 10 iterations, outperforming the other state-of-the-art methods, and the other four used pretrained models based on the BreakHis dataset. Fabric defect detection is an important part of the textile industry to ensure product quality. To solve the problems such as the difficulty of detecting small defects and the coexistence of multi-scale defects in fabric defect detection, a fabric defect detection method based on the feature purification fusion structure is proposed in this paper. Specifically, we improve the feature extraction network to enhance the network's ability to focus on small defective features and effectively reduce the model parameters. The existing methods use direct fusion between multi-level feature maps, which will lead to feature confusion. Therefore, we propose the feature purification fusion structure (FPF), which includes the semantic information supplementation strategy (SIS) and the detail information supplementation strategy (DIS). SIS extracts valid information from the deep feature map and supplements it to the shallow feature map, weakening feature information irrelevant to the shallow feature map detection task. DIS adaptively supplements the feature information required by the deep feature map detection task from the shallow feature map. FPF improves the ability of the network to detect small defects and effectively mitigates the aliasing effect generated during feature fusion. The experimental results show that compared to the baseline model YOLOv5s algorithm, our model achieved a 6.8% improvement in detection accuracy, with an average inference frame rate of 37.6 FPS, demonstrating better detection performance in fabric defect detection. Deep-learning-based automatic modulation recognition techniques have been extensively explored for wireless communication systems, because of their strong feature extraction and classification abilities of deep neural networks. Although the high recognition accuracy and low alarms, they also raise concerns about complexity and interpretability, which can affect the practical deployments. In this paper, we propose a randomly perturbation convolutional kernel activation mapping (RPCKAM) strategy to explain modulation recognition networks, and the RPCKAM-based filter pruning method to compress modulation recognition networks, combining the reasoning and interpretation of decisions made by modulation recognition networks with the compression of network models. The RPCKAM is used to evaluate the importance of convolutional kernels, and then the importance ranking is used to provide a basis for network pruning. Moreover, the effect of pruning is verified with VGG16 and ResNet34 as the baseline networks. The experimental results reflect that the RPCKAM-based convolutional kernel pruning can compress the model on a large scale while maintaining high accuracy, and can even improve the modulation recognition accuracy within a certain compression range. Specifically, the accuracy improvement is close to 1% at most in the VGG16, and it is also close to 0.5% at most in the ResNet34. Furthermore, by analyzing the performance changes before and after model compression, it is found that the compression effect of ResNet34 is better than that of VGG16, and the performance of the RPCKAM-based pruning method outperforms that of the Grad-CAM-based pruning method. Logistics parcel detection technology is critical for unmanned sorting. YOLOv5, the state-of-the-art (SOTA) object detection model, is a classic network widely used in engineering. However, on the premise of fast and accurate detection of logistics parcels, it confronts certain challenges of high computing load and parameter quantity. To address these issues, this paper proposes a two-scale lightweight deep learning model named SFYOLOv5. In this article, a lightweight feature extraction module called Pruned-Shuffle-Block (PSB) is proposed. Meanwhile, a double-layer pyramid structure for the medium and large target detection is created in accordance with the image size distribution of logistics parcels. With this structure, the Floating Point of Operations (FLOPs) and parameters in feature extraction were significantly reduced. In addition, a down sampling module named Focus for Downsampling (FFD) is designed and attention modules are introduced to extract high-level semantic information in logistics parcels. These modules not only compensate for the loss caused by down sampling but also improve the mean Average Precision (mAP). Finally, the comparison experiment is performed by using the self-built logistics parcel dataset. The results show that the mAP of the model reaches 99.1%, the number of model parameters decreased by 92.14%, and the FLOPs decreased by 89.57% compared with the existing SOTA model. Lithium-ion batteries are becoming more popular due to their superior performance like high power density, long lifespan, broad operating range of temperatures, quick charging capabilities, and low self-discharge. The implementation of a Battery Management System (BMS) is crucial in order to guarantee the secure and optimal functioning of electric vehicle batteries. BMS monitors, controls, and maintains the health and performance of rechargeable batteries by monitoring the State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), and State of Temperature (SoT). SoC quantifies the amount of energy stored in a battery at a certain moment, and it is employed to approximate the remaining distance that may be covered. SoH describe the overall health or state of a rechargeable battery. It reveals how well a battery performs in comparison to its original state. SoT estimation keeps the battery temperature within a safe range, allowing it to reach a higher age and safety, which is critical for battery reliability. In this paper SoC, SoH, SoT estimation models for a lithium-ion battery have been developed using an improved EP-based R110-BLSTM approach. The Emperor Penguin based Residual Network-110 incorporated Bidirectional Long-Short Term Memory (EP-based R110-BLSTM) is ideal for estimating SoC, SoH, and SoT and features great accuracy, a quick estimation speed, and strong generalization capabilities. However, Extreme Learning Machine performance is heavily reliant on proper feature extraction. In order to enhance estimate performance by extracting the best features, Simulated-Annealing-based Golden Eagle optimization is utilized. Electric vehicle drive cycles are used to test the model's resilience to temperature changes. MATLAB 2018b software is used in the execution of this research. The results demonstrate that the proposed model performs better in terms of accuracy and has lower SoC, SoH, and SoT error rates than existing models. During the manufacturing process of printed circuit boards (PCBs), quality defects can occur, which can affect the performance and reliability of PCBs. Existing deep learning-based PCB defect detection methods are difficult to simultaneously achieve the goals of high detection accuracy, fast detection speed, and small number of parameters. Therefore, this paper proposes a PCB defect detection algorithm based on CDI-YOLO. Firstly, the coordinate attention mechanism (CA) is introduced to improve the backbone and neck network of YOLOv7-tiny, enhance the feature extraction capability of the model, and thus improve the accuracy of model detection. Secondly, DSConv is used to replace part of the common convolution in YOLOv7-tiny to achieve lower computing costs and faster detection speed. Finally, Inner-CIoU is used as the bounding box regression loss function of CDI-YOLO to speed up the bounding box regression process. The experimental results show that the method achieves 98.3% mAP on the PCB defect dataset, the detection speed is 128 frames per second (FPS), the parameters is 5.8 M, and the giga floating-point operations per second (GFLOPs) is 12.6 G. Polyp detection is a challenging task in the diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer (CRC), and it demands clinical expertise due to the diverse nature of polyps. The recent years have witnessed the development of automated polyp detection systems to assist the experts in early diagnosis, considerably reducing the time consumption and diagnostic errors. In automated CRC diagnosis, polyp segmentation is an important step which is carried out with deep learning segmentation models. Recently, Vision Transformers (ViT) are slowly replacing these models due to their ability to capture long range dependencies among image patches. However, the existing ViTs for polyp do not harness the inherent self-attention abilities and incorporate complex attention mechanisms. This paper presents Polyp-Vision Transformer (Polyp-ViT), a novel Transformer model based on the conventional Transformer architecture, which is enhanced with adaptive mechanisms for feature extraction and positional embedding. Polyp-ViT is tested on the Kvasir-seg and CVC-Clinic DB Datasets achieving segmentation accuracies of 0.9891 ± 0.01 and 0.9875 ± 0.71 respectively, outperforming state-of-the-art models. Microelectronics production failure analysis is an important step in improving product quality and development. In fact, the understanding of the failure mechanisms and therefore the implementation of corrective actions on the cause of the failure depend on the results of this analysis. These analyses are saved under textual features format. Then such data need first to be preprocessed and vectorized (converted to numeric). Second, to overcome the curse of dimensionality caused by the vectorisation process, a dimension reduction is applied. A two-stage variable selection and feature extraction is used to reduce the high dimensionality of a feature space. We are first interested in studying the potential of using an unsupervised variable selection technique, the genetic algorithm, to identify the variables that best demonstrate discrimination in the separation and compactness of groups of textual data. The genetic algorithm uses a combination of the K-means or Gaussian Mixture Model clustering and validity indices as a fitness function for optimization. Such a function improves both compactness and class separation. The second work looks into the feasibility of applying a feature extraction technique. The adopted methodology is a Deep learning algorithm based on variational autoencoder (VAE) for latent space disentanglement and Gaussian Mixture Model for clustering of the latent space for cluster identification. The last objective of this paper is to propose a new methodology based on the combination between variational autoencoder (VAE) for the latent space disentanglement, and genetic algorithm (GA) to find, in an unsupervised way, the latent variables allowing the best discrimination of clusters of failure analysis data. This methodology is called VAE-GA. Experiments on textual datasets of failure analysis demonstrate the effectiveness of the VAE-GA proposed method which allows better discrimination of textual classes compared to the use of GA or VAE separately or the combination of PCA with GA (PCA-GA) or a simple Auto-encoders with GA (AE-GA). Deep learning shows great potential in low-light image enhancement, which can improve image brightness and contrast while keeping image natural. However, due to the lack of prior knowledge extracted manually or excessive amplification of noise, these methods result in poor quality of enhanced images. To solve these challenging problems, this paper proposes a dual-branch grayscale image enhancement network based on dense residual and attention mechanism. Low-light grayscale image is used as input. Firstly, features that fuse deep and shallow information are extracted through dense residual convolution branch network; secondly, texture features are extracted through U-Net branch network combined with attention mechanism; then the extracted features are integrated, and finally luminance is adjusted by a brightness adjustment module to output an enhanced grayscale image. In addition, a joint loss function is designed to measure the network training loss from brightness, texture, contrast and noise. A large number of quantitative and qualitative experiments on LOL and VE-LOL datasets show that the proposed method improves Peak Signal to Noise Ratio Index and Structural Similarity Index by 19.65 - 59.76% and 5.61 - 85.53%, respectively, compared with EnlightenGAN, KinD++, RUAS, LLFlow, etc. The proposed method is superior to the most famous methods, thanks to the deep feature extraction and fusion capability of dense residual convolutional network and texture extraction capability of U-Net network combined with attention mechanism. In modern industrial settings, the datasets available for mechanical fault diagnosis are often limited in size and exhibit significant imbalance posing a challenge to both the accuracy and stability of diagnostic processes. A particularly difficult task is the detection and localization of surface defects in textured materials. The complexity arises due to variable textures and the frequent scarcity of defective samples for preliminary testing. Conventional defect detection methods used in industry are typically complex, labor-intensive, and heavily dependent on expert knowledge due to the manual extraction of features and the complexity of the processing pipeline. To address these issues, the paper introduces an innovative imbalanced fault diagnosis approach leveraging the Fuzzy Clustering Generative Adversarial Network (FCGAN) model. The FCGAN is an advancement of the traditional Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) which integrates fuzzy clustering into the discriminator's training process for unsupervised learning. The integration of fuzzy clustering enhances the generative network's performance. The model efficiency is further augmented by the feature extraction capabilities of FusionNet which undergoes structural optimization and conditional augmentation to generate diagnostic samples for machine faults. The effectiveness of the model is validated using two publicly accessible datasets i.e., DAGM 2007 synthetic and CCSD-NL Magnetic-Tile-Defect. The proposed method which is tested on two famous datasets, including DAGM 2007 synthetic and CCSD-NL Magnetic-Tile-Defect, has achieved prediction accuracy of 95.21% and 96.24% with a standard deviation of 65.78% and 57.44%, respectively. The results have been compared with other DL and traditional methods, including GAN, CNN, and adaptive deep CNN. "Epilepsy" is a common neurological brain disorder that may affect the human being at any stage of life. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is the most important tool for the early detection of epileptic seizures in several applications of epilepsy diagnosis. Recent research has carried out various possibilities of predicting and analyzing epileptic seizures by using conventional methods which employed EEG signal processing for feature extraction and further classified by either one of deep learning/ machine learning-based methods. So, there is a requirement to find a suitable and more reliable method to detect and classify EEG signals as epileptic and non epileptic. This paper proposes a non-conventional method in which EEG time series signals are transformed into multiple recurrence plots. Transfer learning methods are used to extract features from these recurrence plots and relevant features are selected by using principal component analysis thereby reducing the computational complexity. These features are fed into various machine learning classifiers which include Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor, Gaussian, Random Forest, Bagging, and Support Vector Machine. Among these classifiers, SVM gives the best performance with 98.15% sensitivity, 99.61% precision, and 98.21% accuracy. This proves to be a novel approach as it evaluates the performance of different machine learning classifiers in two ways. First, with the extracted features only and second by using feature selection on extracted features. The outcomes confirm that employing feature selection enhances the performance of each classifier, thereby validating the effectiveness of feature extraction using deep learning. The proposed work has the potential to classify the epileptic and non-epileptic EEG signal more efficiently in terms of tradeoffs between sensitivity and accuracy. Micro-expression is an expression that reveals one's true feelings and can be potentially applied in various domains such as healthcare, safety interrogation, and business negotiation. The micro-expression recognition is thus far being judged manually by psychologists and trained experts, which consumes a lot of human effort and time. Recently, the development of the deep learning network has proven promising performance in many computer vision-related tasks. Amongst, micro-expression recognition adopts the deep learning methodology to improve the feature learning capability and model generalization. This paper introduces a lightweight apex-based enhanced network that improves by extending one of the state-of-the-art, shallow triple stream three-dimensional CNN. Concretely, the network is first pre-trained with a macro-expression dataset to encounter the small data problem. The features were extracted from CASME II, SMIC, and SAMM datasets. Moreover, thorough recognition results comparison of the datasets are the optical flow-guided features. Besides, an eye masking technique is introduced to reduce noise interference such as eye blinking and glasses reflection issues. The results obtained have an accuracy of 79.19 % and an F1-score of 75.9 % . Comprehensive experimentation had been conducted on the composite dataset that consists of is provided by comparing it with recent methods. Microgrids are essential for developing the future energy systems. Microgrids can be utilized in grid-connected or island mode, enabling increased integration of renewable energy sources into a power system. However, due to the increased penetration of converter-based renewable energy sources, the quality of power in microgrids may be adversely affected. Therefore, finding an appropriate technique to classify and detect islanding and non-islanding events in microgrids is one of the major challenges associated with the design of renewable energy sources. This paper presents a new hybrid approach by using wavelet transform, Stockwell transform and residual neural networks for classification and detection of islanding and non-islanding events. The proposed hybrid approach consists of two main stages: in the first stage, optimum feature images of islanding and non-islanding events are obtained by performing wavelet transform and Stockwell transform. In the second stage, a residual neural network model which is fine-tuned with optimal hyperparameters is determined in order to detect and classify islanding and non-islanding events. Thus, feature image data obtained from microgrid test model are structured as input to residual neural network for classifying of islanding and non-islanding events. By employing the hybrid signal processing approaches with deep learning-based residual neural networks, the validation accuracy of 99.40% is obtained for islanding and non-islanding events with average detection time of 0.1260 s. The effectiveness of the hybrid approach was evaluated through comparative analysis with the results obtained for normal and noisy environments in approaches used by similar studies presented in the literature. Unlike traditional passive island detection techniques, the proposed deep learning-based hybrid approach is considered to have superior performance due to its more dynamic behavior. Purpose: To propose a new quality scoring tool, METhodological RadiomICs Score (METRICS), to assess and improve research quality of radiomics studies. Methods: We conducted an online modified Delphi study with a group of international experts. It was performed in three consecutive stages: Stage#1, item preparation; Stage#2, panel discussion among EuSoMII Auditing Group members to identify the items to be voted; and Stage#3, four rounds of the modified Delphi exercise by panelists to determine the items eligible for the METRICS and their weights. The consensus threshold was 75%. Based on the median ranks derived from expert panel opinion and their rank-sum based conversion to importance scores, the category and item weights were calculated. Result: In total, 59 panelists from 19 countries participated in selection and ranking of the items and categories. Final METRICS tool included 30 items within 9 categories. According to their weights, the categories were in descending order of importance: study design, imaging data, image processing and feature extraction, metrics and comparison, testing, feature processing, preparation for modeling, segmentation, and open science. A web application and a repository were developed to streamline the calculation of the METRICS score and to collect feedback from the radiomics community. Conclusion: In this work, we developed a scoring tool for assessing the methodological quality of the radiomics research, with a large international panel and a modified Delphi protocol. With its conditional format to cover methodological variations, it provides a well-constructed framework for the key methodological concepts to assess the quality of radiomic research papers. Facial expression recognition (FER) is a technology that recognizes human emotions based on biometric markers. Over the past decade, FER has been a popular research area, particularly in the computer vision community. With deep learning (DL) development, FER can achieve impressive recognition accuracy. In addition, favorable Internet-of-Things (IoT) advancements generate massive amounts of visual data needed to enable reliable DL-based emotion analysis. However, training DL models can suffer from significant memory consumption and computational costs, complicating many vision tasks. Additionally, the direct use of RGB images during the training and inference stages might raise privacy concerns in various FER applications. On the other hand, adopting large deep networks hampers quick and accurate recognition on resource-constrained end devices such as smartphones. As a viable solution, edge computing can be employed to bring data storage and computation closer to end devices rather than relying on a central cloud server. As a result, it can potentially facilitate the deployment of real-time FER applications since the latency and efficiency problems are well addressed by utilizing the computing resources at the edge. In this paper, we develop an efficient FER framework that integrates DL with edge computing. Our framework relies on facial landmarks to enable privacy-preserving and low-latency FER. Accordingly, various landmark detection models and feature types are studied empirically to investigate their capabilities in capturing the dynamic information of facial expressions in videos. Then, using the extracted landmark-based features, we design lightweight DL models to classify human emotions on IoT devices. Fast and accurate detection of traffic signs is crucial for the development of intelligent transportation systems. To address the issue of false detection and missing detection of small traffic signs in complex scenes, this paper proposes a YOLO-SG model based on YOLOv5. The YOLO-SG approach employs SPD-Conv as a down-sampling structure to mitigate the loss of feature information during the down-sampling process. This enhances the detection performance of small objects in complex scenes and improves the generalization and robustness of the model. The feature extraction architecture uses GhostNet, which effectively reduces the number of model parameters and weight, enhancing the feasibility of practical model deployment. Furthermore, this study optimizes the output feature structure by introducing a small object detection layer and removing the large object detection layer, enabling the detection of small objects. Extensive experiments conducted on the GTSDB and TT100K datasets demonstrate that YOLO-SG exhibits excellent detection performance. On the GTSDB dataset, YOLO-SG achieved a 2.3% increase in mAP compared to the baseline network, while reducing the number of parameters by 42%. Similarly, on the TT100K dataset, YOLO-SG increased mAP by 6.3% and reduced the number of parameters by 43%. Traffic time series anomaly detection has been intensively studied for years because of its potential applications in intelligent transportation. However, classical traffic anomaly detection methods often overlook the evolving dynamic associations between road network nodes, which leads to challenges in capturing the long-term temporal correlations, spatial characteristics, and abnormal node behaviors in datasets with high periodicity and trends, such as morning peak travel periods. In this paper, we propose a mirror temporal graph autoencoder (MTGAE) framework to explore anomalies and capture unseen nodes and the spatiotemporal correlation between nodes in the traffic network. Specifically, we propose the mirror temporal convolutional module to enhance feature extraction capabilities and capture hidden node-to-node features in the traffic network. Morever, we propose the graph convolutional gate recurrent unit cell (GCGRU CELL) module. This module uses Gaussian kernel functions to map data into a high-dimensional space, and enables the identification of anomalous information and potential anomalies within the complex interdependencies of the traffic network, based on prior knowledge and input data. We compared our work with several other advanced deep-learning anomaly detection models. Graphs are widely used to model real-life information, where graph similarity computation is one of the most significant applications, such as inferring the properties of a compound based on similarity to a known group. Definition methods (e.g., graph edit distance and maximum common subgraph) have extremely high computational cost, and the existing efficient deep learning methods suffer from the problem of inadequate feature extraction which would have a bad effect on similarity computation. In this paper, a double-branch model called DeepSIM was raised to deeply mine graph-level and node-level features to address the above problems. On the graph-level branch, a novel embedding relational reasoning network was presented to obtain interaction between pairwise inputs. Meanwhile, a new local-to-global attention mechanism is designed to improve the capability of CNN-based node-level feature extraction module on another path. In DeepSIM, double-branch outputs will be concatenated as the final feature. Secure user authentication has grown importance in today’s modern culture. It is significant to authenticate the user identity in numerous consumer applications particularly financial transactions. Traditional authentication methods rely on easy-to-guess passwords, PIN numbers, or tokens with several security flaws, such as those printed on the back of credit cards for PIN numbers. As an alternative to current systems, biometric authentication techniques based on physical and behavioral characteristics have been proposed. Multibiometric systems, which combine several biometrics, are developed as a result of the difficulties that single-biometric authentication systems encountered in real-world applications including lack of precision and noisy data. The proposed system provides better performance and greater accuracy compared with other authentication techniques. The majority of them is inconvenient and demand complicated user interactions. This paper proposes Enhanced Elman Spike Neural Network along Glowworm Swarm Optimization (EESNN-GSO-AMT) for Multiple Transaction Authentication. The images are collected via SDUMLA-HMTalong CASIA V5 dataset. The pictures are provided to pre-processing to enhance the images quality utilizing Learnable Edge Collaborative Filter (LECF). The preprocessed images are fed to feature extraction using Adaptive and concise empirical wavelet transform (ACEWT) and the features are extracted such as entropy, homogeneity, energy and contrast. The extracting features are provided to EESNN classifier to categorize authorized or unauthorized persons. In general, the EESNN classifier does not express adapting optimization methods to determine ideal parameters to ensure accurately. Therefore, it is proposed to utilize the Glowworm Swarm Optimization to enhanceEESNN, which accurately categorizes the authorized and unauthorized person. The efficiency of the proposed approach is assessed usingsome metrics. The rolling elements of the induction motor are highly susceptible to faults. The detection and diagnosis of rolling element faults are accurate and reliable only when the extracted features are accurate. The paper proposes an approach for bearing and rotor fault diagnosis using deep optimal feature extraction and selection based on vibration signal analysis. The deep feature extraction is done using an ensemble deep models features extraction approach in which features are extracted from seven pretrained models are fused serially using serial-based feature fusion technique. This leads to a solution for a higher efficacy model, but at the cost of high processing time as the feature data set gets large. A unique approach termed Ensemble Feature Selection has been developed to address this issue and limit the harmful impact of unwanted features in data-driven diagnostics. The processing time is further reduced using the shallow classifier at the fully connected layer.
