Avoiding financial losses requires preventing catastrophic oil‐filled power transformer breakdowns. Continuous online transformer monitoring is needed. The authors use paper insulation to evaluate transformer health for continuous online transformer monitoring. The study suggests a new artificial intelligence method for estimating paper insulation residual life in oil‐immersed power transformers. The four artificial intelligence models use backpropagation‐based neural networks to predict paper insulation lifespan. Four primary transformer insulating paper failure indices—degree of polymerisation, 2‐furfuraldehyde, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide—form the basis of these models. Each model, including the backpropagation‐based neural networks, estimates paper insulation life using one failure index, along with moisture and temperature data. Optimisation techniques enhance hidden layer neurons and epoch count for improved performance. Results are validated against literature‐based life models, establishing a precise input–output correlation. This method accurately predicts the remaining useable life of power transformer paper insulation, enabling utilities to take proactive measures for safe and efficient transformer operation. The significant risk associated with fault reactivation often necessitates slip tendency analyses for effective risk assessment. However, such analyses are challenging, particularly in large areas with limited or absent reliable stress measurements and where the cost of extensive geomechanical analyses or simulations is prohibitive. In this paper, we propose a novel approach using a physics‐informed neural network that integrates stress orientation and satellite displacement observations in a top‐down multi‐scale framework to estimate two‐dimensional slip tendency analyses even in regions lacking comprehensive stress data. Our study demonstrates that velocities derived from a continental scale analysis, combined with reliable stress orientation averages, can effectively guide models at smaller scales to generate qualitative slip tendency maps. By offering customizable data selection and stress resolution options, this method presents a robust solution to address data scarcity issues, as exemplified through a case study of the South Australian Eyre Peninsula. Visual information is important in final approach and landing phases for an approaching aircraft, it presents supplementary source for navigation system, and provides backup guidance when radio navigation fails, or even supports a complete vision‐based landing. Relative position and attitude can be solved from the runway features in the image. Traditional runway detection methods have high latency and low accuracy, which is unable to satisfy the requirements for a safe landing. This paper proposes a real‐time runway detection model, efficient runway feature extractor (ERFE), based on deep convolutional neural network, generating semantic segmentation and feature lines output. In order to evaluate the model's effectiveness, a benchmark is proposed to calculate the actual error between predicted feature line and ground truth one. A novel runway dataset which is based on pictures from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (FS2020), is also proposed in this paper to train and test the model. Power line inspection is an important means to eliminate hidden dangers of power lines. It is a difficult research problem how to solve the low accuracy of power line inspection based on deep neural network (DNN) due to the problems of multi‐view‐shape, small‐size object. In this paper, an automatic detection model based on Feature visual clustering network (FVCNet) for power line inspection is established. First, an unsupervised clustering method for power line inspection is proposed, and applied to construct a detection model which can recognize multi‐view‐shape objects and enhanced object features. Then, the bilinear interpolation method is used to Feature enhancement method, and the enhanced high‐level semantics and low‐level semantics are fused to solve the problems of small object size and single sample. In this paper, FVCNet is applied to the MS‐COCO 2017 data set and self‐made power line inspection data set, and the test accuracy is increased to 61.2% and 82.0%, respectively. The surface texture of asphalt pavement has a significant effect on skid resistance performance. However, its contribution to the performance of skid resistance is non‐homogeneous and subjects to local validity. There are also a few deep learning models that take into account the effective contact texture region. This paper proposes a convolutional neural network model based on the effective contact texture region, containing macro‐ and micro‐scale awareness sub‐modules. In this study, the asphalt mixture with varying gradations was designed to accurately obtain the effective contact texture region. Then, the textures were disentangled into macro‐ and micro‐texture scales by applying the fast Fourier transform and fed into the model for training. Finally, the area of effective contact texture region was calculated, and the effective contact ratio parameter was then proposed using the triangulation algorithm. The results showed that the effective contact texture area of pavement varies by the asphalt mixture type. The effective contact ratio parameter exhibited a significant positive correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.901, R2= 0.8129) with skid resistance performance and was also influenced by key sieve aggregate content from 2.36 to 4.75 mm. The data of effective contact texture region following disentanglement significantly released the model performance (the relative error dropped to 1.81%). The model exhibited improved precision and performance, which can be utilized as an efficient, non‐contact alternative method for skid resistance analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, research on infrared and visible image fusion has mainly focused on deep learning‐based approaches, particularly deep neural networks with auto‐encoder architectures. However, these approaches suffer from problems such as insufficient feature extraction capability and inefficient fusion strategies. Therefore, this paper introduces a novel image fusion network to address the limitations of infrared and visible image fusion networks with auto‐encoder architectures. In the designed network, the encoder employs a multi‐branch cascade structure, and these convolution branches with different kernel sizes provide the encoder with an adaptive receptive field to extract multi‐scale features. In addition, the fusion layer incorporates a non‐local attention module that is inspired by the self‐attention mechanism. With its global receptive field, this module is used to build a non‐local attention fusion network, which works together with the l1${l}_1$‐norm spatial fusion strategy to extract, split, filter, and fuse global and local features. Comparative experiments on the TNO and MSRS datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other state‐of‐the‐art fusion approaches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Machine learned fault detection approaches are being increasingly used for fault detection in distribution grid. However, the performance of the models can be improved by customizing the models. In this regard, a customised artificial neural network (CANN) for fault detection in a distribution grid is proposed in this paper. The proposed work develops a CANN that combines the "up‐pyramid" and "down‐pyramid" model of ANN into a "custom‐pyramid" model. As a result, the same model can be used both for determining the types of fault as well as its location. The data needed to train the model has been taken from a reconfigured IEEE‐33 bus distribution system developed in Typhoon HIL real‐time simulator. Spectral‐kurtosis is utilized for extraction of features of the faulted transient signals which are used as input data to develop the CANN. The result showcases that the reduction of input features reduces computational complexity without compromising its accuracy. The proposed model classifies fault location with an accuracy of 95.43%. The proposed method also identifies fault type with an accuracy of 96.08%. Several test cases have been developed to test the method. The method proved to be able to perform in most of the cases. High‐angle cameras are commonly used for trajectory data collection in transportation research. However, without refinement and validation, trajectory data obtained through video processing software may be unreliable, inaccurate, or incomplete. This paper focuses on a critical issue in the field of trajectory data acquisition and analysis—there is still no reliable and fully vetted trajectory dataset in the research community. The current practice for validating video‐based trajectory can be classified as indirect methods and direct methods. Indirect methods of trajectory validation use algorithms to efficiently correct data anomalies without human intervention but may overlook detailed driving behaviors, whereas direct methods involve meticulous manual verification to preserve data fidelity but are labor‐intensive and less scalable. The spatial‐temporal maps (STMaps) method offers an additional layer of verification to affirm the accuracy and reliability of trajectory data. To enhance the performance, the deep spatial‐temporal embedding model is proposed for trajectory instance segmentation on STMaps using the contrastive learning framework. The parity constraints at both pixel and instance levels guide the deep neural network to learn the embedding spaces that can be built on different backbone networks. The reconstructed Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM) highway dataset trajectory dataset is thoroughly validated against manually processed ground truth, and the error‐free NGSIM data are refined to be a reliable resource for transportation research based on car‐following behaviors, lane‐change frequency, consistency, and jerk value measurements. In order to balance accuracy and real‐time performance in semantic segmentation, this paper proposes a real‐time semantic segmentation algorithm model based on attention mechanism and multi‐branch feature fusion using Fast convolutional neural network model (Fast‐SCNN). In this method, the spatial detail feature enhancement branch is introduced to enhance spatial detail features firstly. Then, through rational design of fusion module, the feature information of each branch is optimized to achieve better fusion of deep and shallow features. At the end of the feature fusion module, an adaptive feature enhancement focus module is introduced to capture the interdependence between remote pixels. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves 71.55% segmentation accuracy on Cityscapes dataset, the reasoning speed FPS is 97.6 frames/s, and the number of parameters is 1.39 M, which verifies the effectiveness of the network model constructed by the algorithm. This paper aims to explore machine learning techniques for post‐processing high‐resolution Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) products for the early detection of convection. Data from the Arome Ensemble Prediction System and satellite observations from the Rapidly Developing Thunderstorm (RDT) product by Météo‐France are used to train a recurrent neural network model to predict areas of total convection and moderate convection. The learning task is formulated as a binary classification problem using a long short‐term memory (LSTM) network architecture. Results from the LSTM model are compared with an object‐based probabilistic approach to forecast convection using metrics such as a receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, the Brier score and reliability. Results indicate that the LSTM model performs similarly to the object‐based probabilistic benchmark when classifying moderate convection areas and shows improved skill when classifying areas of total convective. Finally, the LSTM model results are presented within an air traffic management context to showcase the potential use of machine learning models within an operational application. Interpreting a seemingly simple function word like "or," "behind," or "more" can require logical, numerical, and relational reasoning. How are such words learned by children? Prior acquisition theories have often relied on positing a foundation of innate knowledge. Yet recent neural‐network‐based visual question answering models apparently can learn to use function words as part of answering questions about complex visual scenes. In this paper, we study what these models learn about function words, in the hope of better understanding how the meanings of these words can be learned by both models and children. We show that recurrent models trained on visually grounded language learn gradient semantics for function words requiring spatial and numerical reasoning. Furthermore, we find that these models can learn the meanings of logical connectives and and or without any prior knowledge of logical reasoning as well as early evidence that they are sensitive to alternative expressions when interpreting language. Finally, we show that word learning difficulty is dependent on the frequency of models' input. Our findings offer proof‐of‐concept evidence that it is possible to learn the nuanced interpretations of function words in a visually grounded context by using non‐symbolic general statistical learning algorithms, without any prior knowledge of linguistic meaning. Purpose: The macular ganglion cell layer (mGCL) is a strong potential biomarker of axonal degeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS). For this reason, this study aims to develop a computer‐aided method to facilitate diagnosis and prognosis in MS. Methods: This paper combines a cross‐sectional study of 72 MS patients and 30 healthy control subjects for diagnosis and a 10‐year longitudinal study of the same MS patients for the prediction of disability progression, during which the mGCL was measured using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Deep neural networks were used as an automatic classifier. Results: For MS diagnosis, greatest accuracy (90.3%) was achieved using 17 features as inputs. The neural network architecture comprised the input layer, two hidden layers and the output layer with softmax activation. For the prediction of disability progression 8 years later, accuracy of 81.9% was achieved with a neural network comprising two hidden layers and 400 epochs. Conclusion: We present evidence that by applying deep learning techniques to clinical and mGCL thickness data it is possible to identify MS and predict the course of the disease. Text-independent speaker verification (TI-SV) is a crucial task in speaker recognition, as it involves verifying an individual's claimed identity from speech of arbitrary content without any human intervention. The target for TI-SV is to design a discriminative network to learn deep speaker embedding for speaker idiosyncrasy. In this paper, we propose a deep speaker embedding learning approach of a hybrid deep neural network (DNN) for TI-SV in FM broadcasting. Not only acoustic features are utilized, but also phoneme features are introduced as prior knowledge to collectively learn deep speaker embedding. The hybrid DNN consists of a convolutional neural network architecture for generating acoustic features and a multilayer perceptron architecture for extracting phoneme features sequentially, which represent significant pronunciation attributes. The extracted acoustic and phoneme features are concatenated to form deep embedding descriptors for speaker identity. The hybrid DNN demonstrates not only the complementarity between acoustic and phoneme features but also the temporality of phoneme features in a sequence. Our experiments show that the hybrid DNN outperforms existing methods and delivers a remarkable performance in FM broadcasting TI-SV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The die shear test is a feasible and conventional method to characterize the shear strength of die‐attaching layer materials in electronic packaging. A new method for determining cohesive zone model (CZM) parameters using deep neural networks (DNN) and die shear tests is proposed, different from classical fracture framework or lap shear test‐based methods. With the sintered nano‐silver die shear test, the results show that the bilinear CZM inversion results agree well with the experimental results. It is found that the DNN model has high accuracy in predicting and identifying the maximum shear traction strength τmax, separation displacement of the interface δf, and the interface stiffness k1 of CZM parameters for sintered nano‐silver adhesive layer through die shear test load versus displacement curves. The presented DNN‐aided inverse identifying method through the die shear test in this paper could provide an alternative and convenient method for extracting CZM parameters of various kinds of adhesive materials in electronic packaging. Human interaction has changed considerably with the emergence of the Internet. Today, a large percentage of daily communication takes place on instant messaging applications and social networks. In fact, there has been a considerable increase in the use of social networks because new social networks are being created for specific purposes, such as the search for employment or tourism. When the amount of content on a social network is large, it is necessary to help users find content of their interest. In this regard, artificial intelligence techniques can greatly facilitate the task of searching for relevant content. This paper presents a recommender system for a business and employment oriented social network, on which users are recommended job offers and other user profiles to follow. The presented system is based on virtual organizations of agents, and uses artificial neural networks to determine whether job offers and users should be recommended or not. One of the most common attacks is man‐in‐the‐middle (MitM) which, due to its complex behaviour, is difficult to detect by traditional cyber‐attack detection systems. MitM attacks on internet of things systems take advantage of special features of the protocols and cause system disruptions, making them invisible to legitimate elements. In this work, an intrusion detection system (IDS), where intelligent models can be deployed, is the approach to detect this type of attack considering network alterations. Therefore, this paper presents a novel method to develop the intelligent model used by the IDS, being this method based on a hybrid process. The first stage of the process implements a feature extraction method, while the second one applies different supervised classification techniques, both over a message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) dataset compiled by authors in previous works. The contribution shows excellent performance for any compared classification methods. Likewise, the best results are obtained using the method with the highest computational cost. Since the discovery of the quasicrystal, approximately 100 stable quasicrystals are identified. To date, the existence of quasicrystals is verified using transmission electron microscopy; however, this technique requires significantly more elaboration than rapid and automatic powder X‐ray diffraction. Therefore, to facilitate the search for novel quasicrystals, developing a rapid technique for phase‐identification from powder diffraction patterns is desirable. This paper reports the identification of a new Al–Si–Ru quasicrystal using deep learning technologies from multiphase powder patterns, from which it is difficult to discriminate the presence of quasicrystalline phases even for well‐trained human experts. Deep neural networks trained with artificially generated multiphase powder patterns determine the presence of quasicrystals with an accuracy >92% from actual powder patterns. Specifically, 440 powder patterns are screened using the trained classifier, from which the Al–Si–Ru quasicrystal is identified. This study demonstrates an excellent potential of deep learning to identify an unknown phase of a targeted structure from powder patterns even when existing in a multiphase sample. Background: Kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), as a common case in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), has the risk of postoperative recurrence, thus its prognosis is poor and its prognostic markers are usually based on imaging methods, which have the problem of low specificity. In addition, cuproptosis, as a novel mode of cell death, has been used as a biomarker to predict disease in many cancers in recent years, which also provides an important basis for prognostic prediction in KIRC. For postoperative patients with KIRC, an important means of preventing disease recurrence is pharmacological treatment, and thus matching the appropriate drug to the specific patient's target is also particularly important. With the development of neural networks, their predictive performance in the field of medical big data has surpassed that of traditional methods, and this also applies to the field of prognosis prediction and drug-target prediction. Objective: The purpose of this study is to screen for cuproptosis genes related to the prognosis of KIRC and to establish a deep neural network (DNN) model for patient risk prediction, while also developing a personalized nomogram model for predicting patient survival. In addition, sensitivity drugs for KIRC were screened, and a graph neural network (GNN) model was established to predict the targets of the drugs, in order to discover potential drug action sites and provide new treatment ideas for KIRC. Methods: We used the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) database, and DrugBank database for our study. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened using TCGA data, and then a DNN-based risk prediction model was built and validated using ICGC data. Subsequently, the differences between high- and low-risk groups were analyzed and KIRC-sensitive drugs were screened, and finally a GNN model was trained using DrugBank data to predict the relevant targets of these drugs. Results: A prognostic model was built by screening 10 significantly different cuproptosis-related genes, the model had an AUC of 0.739 on the training set TCGA data) and an AUC of 0.707 on the validation set (ICGC data), which demonstrated a good predictive performance. Based on the prognostic model in this paper, patients were also classified into high- and low-risk groups, and functional analyses were performed. In addition, 251 drugs were screened for sensitivity, and four drugs were ultimately found to have high sensitivity, with 5-Fluorouracil having the best inhibitory effect, and subsequently their corresponding targets were also predicted by GraphSAGE, with the most prominent targets including Cytochrome P450 2D6, UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A, and Proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase receptor Ret. Notably, the average accuracy of GraphSAGE was 0.817±0.013, which was higher than that of GAT and GTN. Conclusion: Our KIRC risk prediction model, constructed using 10 cuproptosisrelated genes, had good independent prognostic ability. In addition, we screened four highly sensitive drugs and predicted relevant targets for these four drugs that might treat KIRC. Finally, literature research revealed that four drug-target interactions have been demonstrated in previous studies and the remaining targets are potential sites of drug action for future research.
