This work reports the development of low-cost and rapid multiplexed colorimetric assay of antioxidants (total phenolics, antioxidant capacity, flavonoids and anthocyanins) in wines at daisy-shaped fluidic paper-based analytical devices (PADs). The desired fluidic patterns were formed on paper by pen drawing and colorimetric reagents were immobilized at the 6 peripheral test zones. The sample was added at the central sample zone, migrated to the test zones and reacted with the immobilized reagents producing characteristic colors that were captured and analyzed. The paper-based approach was applied to the analysis of several wine samples and the results were statistically correlated to standard solution-based colorimetric assays, indicating that it could be reliably used for ranking wines according to their antioxidants content. Total antioxidants play a crucial role in human health, and detection of the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) has broad application prospects in fields such as food safety, environmental assessment, and disease diagnosis. However, a long detection time, cumbersome steps, high cost, reliance on professional equipment, and nonportability still remain significant challenges. In this work, an efficient strategy of point-of-care testing (POCT) of the TAC in body fluids by nanozyme-catalyzed colorimetric paper-based microfluidic sensors is proposed. The paper-based microfluidic sensors coupled with a smartphone can reduce testing costs and provide portability. The nanozyme prepared by the solvothermal method presents Michaelis constants of 0.11 and 0.129 mM for H 2 O 2 and TMB, respectively. A method for immobilizing nanozymes and chromogenic agents on a paper-based microfluidic chip is established. Based on smartphone photography and image grayscale extraction, the TAC can be qualitatively detected with a detection limit and linear range of 33.4 and 50-700 μM, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed sensor can realize the one-step quantitative analysis of the TAC in body fluids (blood, saliva, and sweat) within 15 min. The proposed nanozyme-catalyzed colorimetric paper-based microfluidic sensors presented in this study exhibit promising application prospects in the fields of biochemical analysis and POCT.

This study investigated the impact of various Ge132 (Bis-carboxyethyl germanium sesquioxide) concentrations on frozen bovine semen. Ejaculates from three bulls were pooled and divided into six groups, each one with different Ge132 concentrations (0, 500, and 1000 μg/mL) and each group was incubated in different conditions (33°C for 30 min (D: D0, D500, and D1000), and the other was immediately cooled to 4°C (R: R0-control; R500 and R1000)). Thawed semen was evaluated for sperm characteristics by CASA and flow cytometer. Results showed better motility in the immediate cooling group without Ge132 compared with high Ge132 concentrations. Values for total motility dropped after 5 and 60 min in groups with high Ge132 levels and some control groups. Linearity increased with 1000 μg/mL Ge132, while straightness differed between moments in multiple groups. Membrane integrity was higher in a control group and certain Ge132 groups. Lower O 2 - generation occurred without Ge132. After oxidative stress induction, lipid peroxidation intensity increased with arachidonic acid, but D1000 had lower peroxidation than R0. Overall, Ge132 appears to have provided protection against PLM when subjected to oxidative stress, since even at high concentrations it maintained sperm metabolism., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH. Water stress is an important factor that substantially impacts crop production. As a result, there is a need for various strategies that can mitigate these negative effects. One such strategy is the application of potassium humate (Kh) and cobalt (Co), which have been reported to enhance the resistance of crop plants. Therefore, the present experiment was designed to investigate whether the application of Kh and Co could positively affect proline, chlorophyll and mineral elements contents, and antioxidant defense systems which in turn will mitigate the negative impact of water stress under different irrigation strategies. In 2021 and 2022, an open-field experiments were conducted by using a split-plot design. The main plots were divided to represent different irrigation strategies (ST), with additional control of full irrigation requirements (ST1). Four STs were implemented, with ST1, followed by the application of 75%, 50%, and 25% irrigation strategies in ST2, ST3, and ST4 respectively, in the next irrigation, followed by the full requirements, and so on. In the subplots, peanut plants were treated with tap water (Control), Kh at 2 g l -1 and 3 g l -1 , Co, Co + Kh 2 g l -1 and Co + Kh 3 g l -1 . The yield was negatively affected by the implementation of ST4, despite the increase in proline contents. Furthermore, there was a decrease in relative water content, chlorophyll content, antioxidant enzymes, protein, and mineral nutrient elements. However, the application of Kh or Co showed better improvements in most of the studied parameters. It is worth noting that there was an antagonistic relationship between Co and iron/manganese, and the intensity of this relationship was found to depend on the STs implemented. The highest mineral nutrient accumulation, chlorophyll content, relative water content, protein content, oil content, seed yield, and water productivity were observed when peanut plants were treated with Kh 3 g l -1  + Co under the ST2 water strategy., (© 2024. Proline metabolism has been associated with the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), antioxidant enzymes, and the control of cellular redox status. Moreover, proline accumulation is a highly evolutionarily conserved response to diverse abiotic stresses in plants. Thus, proline quantification has been helpful in abiotic stress research as a stress marker. The need for a reliable, fast, and simple method to detect proline in plant tissues is a powerful resource to imply the physiological status of plants under abiotic stress. This chapter summarizes the main strategies for proline extraction and quantification, highlighting their limitations and advantages, and recommends and details a specific protocol for proline extraction and quantification. Traditional medicinal plants play an important role in primary health care worldwide. The phytochemical screening and activities of Geranium pusillum were investigated in this research. The dried plant leaves were extracted with ethanol, n-hexane, chloroform, dichloromethane, methanol, acetone, and aqueous solvents. These extracts were qualitatively analyzed, GC-MS, antimicrobial activities by using the disc diffusion method, antioxidant activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) radical scavenging, and cytotoxic activity was analyzed by the hemolytic activity of human red blood cells. The results showed phytochemicals such as flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, phenols, saponins, tannins, and cardiac glycosides were detected in plant leaves. The ethanol extract at a concentration of 10 mg/mL showed a maximum inhibition zone 17.5 ± 0.09, 15.6 ± 0.11, 14.2 ± 0.17, 18.4 ± 0.11, 16.6 ± 0.15, 12.5 ± 0.13, 15.9 ± 0.10, and 13.1 ± 0.11 mm, and at 15 mg/mL showed 24.5 ± 0.09, 27.2 ± 0.12, 26.3 ± 0.17, 28.4 ± 0.10, 27.9 ± 0.16, 22.5 ± 0.13, 27.1 ± 0.10, and 24.1 ± 0.16 mm against Escherichia coli, Pasturella multocida (gram-negative), Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilus (gram-positive), Rhizopus solani, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, and Alternaria alternate (fungal strain), respectively, and dichloromethane showed a minimum inhibition zone as compared to other extracts against bacterial as well as fungal strains. Chloroform extract had maximum antioxidant activity (45.00 ± 0.08%) and minimum in dichloromethane (12.20 ± 0.04%). Cytotoxic activity was found maximum in acetone extract (19.83 ± 0.07%) and minimum in ethanol extract (4.72 ± 0.04%). It is concluded that phytochemicals like phenols, flavonoids, and others may be responsible for these activities, which is why this plant is used for traditional medicine. Oxidative aging of bitumen is an inevitable and irreversible phenomenon. Exposure to detrimental factors such as sunlight, oxygen, and UV radiations accelerates the aging of bitumen and bituminous pavement. The aging process induces hardening and embrittlement in bitumen, leading to premature pavement failure. Therefore, for constructing sustainable long-lasting pavements anti-aging additives are used. Among the available additives, the use of antioxidants has emerged as a promising solution to mitigate the aging of bitumen. The current review aims to summarise the existing literature for a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of these additives as aging inhibitors. It provides an overview of the chemical pathway involved during bitumen oxidation and various quantification techniques to measure the effect of aging. This review also highlights the potential use of antioxidants in bitumen and elaborates on the working mechanism of different types of antioxidants to prevent bitumen aging. Further, the effect of modification in bitumen at micro, macro, and mixture levels are discussed. Exercise has been demonstrated to induce an elevated production of free radicals, leading to the onset of oxidative stress. Numerous studies highlight the positive impacts of aerobic exercise, primarily attributed to the increase in overall antioxidant capacity. The evidence suggests that engaging in aerobic exercise contributes to a reduction in the likelihood of advanced cancer and mortality. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the generation of free radicals and the collective antioxidant defense system, encompassing both enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants. Typically, oxidative stress triggers the formation of reactive oxygen or nitrogen species, instigating or advancing various issues in cancers and other diseases. The pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance serves as a direct measure of this imbalance in oxidative stress. Polyphenols contain a variety of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, flavanols, and phenolic acids, conferring antioxidant properties. Previous research highlights the potential of polyphenols as antioxidants, with documented effects on reducing cancer risk by influencing processes such as proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis. This is primarily attributed to their recognized antioxidant capabilities. Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the physiopathology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which is associated with impaired antioxidant defenses. This study aimed to investigate the effects of curcumin supplementation on serum levels of total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), and disease activity in women with RA. In this clinical trial, 48 women with RA were treated with one capsule of curcumin (500 mg daily) or placebo for 8 weeks. Anthropometric measurements and fasting blood samples were collected at baseline and end of the study. Finally, we assessed the Disease Activity Score in 28 joints (DAS-28), dietary intake, and physical activity levels. While curcumin supplementation for 8 weeks significantly increased the serum levels of TAC (p < 0.05), it decreased tender joint counts, swollen joint counts, visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, and DAS-28 compared to the placebo at the end of the study (p < 0.001 for all). MDA levels significantly decreased in the curcumin group (p < 0.05). However, changes in MDA concentration were not significant between groups at the end of the trial (p = 0.145). Introduction: Nymphaea rubra belongs to the Nymphaea family and is regarded as a vegetable used in traditional medicine to cure several ailments. These species are rich in phenolic acid, flavonoids, and hydrolysable tannin., Objective: This study aimed to assess the biological activities of Nymphaea rubra flowers (NRF) and leaves (NRL) by identifying and quantifying their polyphenolic compounds using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole cyclic ion mobility time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-cIM-TOF-MS) and triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC-TQ-MS)., Methodology: NRF and NRL powder was extracted with methanol and fractionated using hexane, ethylacetate, and water. Antioxidant and α-glucosidase, and tyrosinase enzyme inhibitory activities were evaluated. The polyphenolic components of NRF and NRL were identified and quantified using UHPLC-Q-cIM-TOF-MS and UHPLC-TQ-MS. The method was validated using linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and lower limit of quantification (LLOQ)., Results: Bioactive substances and antioxidants were highest in the ethylacetate fraction of flowers and leaves. Principal component analysis showed how solvent and plant components affect N. rubra's bioactivity and bioactive compound extraction. A total of 67 compounds were identified, and among them 21 significant polyphenols were quantified. Each calibration curve had R 2  > 0.998. The LOD and LLOQ varied from 0.007 to 0.09 μg/mL and from 0.01 to 0.1 μg/mL, respectively. NRF contained a significant amount of gallic acid (10.1 mg/g), while NRL contained abundant pentagalloylglucose (2.8 mg/g)., Conclusion: The developed method is simple, rapid, and selective for the identification and quantification of bioactive molecules. Background: Acne is a common skin issue that typically occurs during adolescence. It causes long-lasting redness and swelling in the skin. An alternative approach to treating acne could involve using a cosmetic facial mask containing herbal ingredients such as Curcumin and Rosa Damascena extract for its antibacterial properties., Aims: This study aims to create and try out a peel-off mask gel made from Curcumin and R. Damascena extract. This gel is intended to have the ability to kill bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Propionibacterium acnes and remove dead cells from the skin surface., Methods: The peel-off mask was made using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in 8% and 10% as solidifier. The evaluation of peel-off masks comprises the examination of physiochemical and mechanical aspects. Furthermore, their longevity, effectiveness, and antibacterial properties are also considered., Results: The white color, pleasant smell, and soft texture were the defining features of the peel-off gel mask. The changes in PVA affect the pH level, thickness, and how quickly the peel-off mask dries. The stability test found that the peel-off mask had no significant physical changes when exposed to freezing and thawing. However, there were some differences in color and separation when using the real-time method. A prepared peel-off mask containing 10% PVA and curcumin works best against P. acne. The amount of PVA in the formula affected the physical and chemical qualities, but it did not impact on the antibacterial abilities of the peel-off mask gel. The best formula that gives the best results uses 10% PVA + curcumin., Conclusions: Using the Curcumin and R. Peanut production is threatened by climate change. Damage to seedlings from low temperatures in early spring can limit yield. Plant adaptations to chilling stress remain unclear in peanut seedlings. It is essential to understand how peanut acquires chilling tolerance. We evaluated effects of chilling stress on growth and recovery of peanut seedlings. We compared and analysed biological characteristics, antioxidants, photosynthesis, biochemical and physiological responses, and nutrient absorption at varying levels of chilling. Compared with chilling-sensitive FH18, the reduced impact of chilling stress on chilling-tolerant NH5 was associated with reduced ROS accumulation, higher ascorbate peroxidase activity and soluble sugar content, lower soluble protein content, and smaller reductions in nutrient content during stress. After removal of chilling stress, FH18 had significant accumulation of O 2 •- and H 2 O 2 , which decreased photosynthesis, nutrient absorption, and transport. ROS-scavenging reduced damage from chilling stress, allowed remobilization of nutrients, improved chilling tolerance, and restored plant functioning after chilling stress removal. Pulu Mandoti, a local red rice (Oryza sativa L.) variety popular among Sulawesi residents, has gained recognition for its perceived health benefits, especially as a preferred dietary option for individuals with diabetes or those seeking to prevent obesity. Given the increasing consumption of mushrooms, particularly Pleurotus species, renowned for their nutritional and medicinal attributes, this study delves into the transformative effects of Pleurotus spp. fermentation on Pulu Mandoti, the indigenous rice variety. Proximate analysis disclosed elevated dry matter (91.99 ± 0.61%), crude protein (8.55 ± 0.15%), and crude fat (1.34 ± 0.05%) in Pleurotus cystidiosus fermentation compared to Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus djamor. Concurrently, antioxidant and antidiabetic activities were notably improved in all Pleurotus fermentations. Pulu Mandoti fermented with P. cystidiosus outperformed other treatments, aligning with molecular docking results pinpointing 11-Eicosenoic acid, methyl ester, and butylated hydroxytoluene as optimal interactors with antioxidant receptors 5O0x and 2CKJ. Butylated hydroxytoluene demonstrated interactions with the antidiabetic receptor 2QV4, along with 9-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester. These compounds, previously unreported in Pleurotus, displayed promising attributes as antioxidants and antidiabetic agents. Furthermore, the investigation delved into the fatty acid profiles, emphasizing the diverse range of potential bioactive compounds in fermented Pulu Mandoti. Four alkaline earth metal complexes of ketoprofen (Hket) and indomethacin (Hind) were synthesized and characterized: [Ca(ket) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] n (1), [Mg(ket) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] (2), [Ca(ind) 2 (EtOH) 2 ] n (3), and [Mg(ind) 2 (EtOH) 2 ] (4). All compounds were studied by elemental analysis (EA), flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Crystal structures of 1 and 3 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique T=100 K. The structure of 1 is dominated by a one-dimensional coordination polymer, while 3 is formed by a two-dimensional layer stabilized by the calcium zig-zag chains and π⋅⋅⋅π stacking interactions. Crystal packing arrangements were characterized by fingerprint plots (FPs) that were derived from the Hirshfeld surfaces (HSs). Banana is one of the most consumed and popular fruits in all regions of the world, being cultivated mainly in tropical countries. It is not only a rich source of vitamins A, C, and B, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, and other vitamins and nutrients, but it also contains several types of antioxidants with high nutritional value. In this context, the current study aimed to quantify the content of ascorbic acid, flavonoids, pigments, and minerals present in "Nanicão" bananas during the ripening process. As demonstrated, the level of flavonoids was higher in ripe and overripe fruits, whereas the mineral composition was high only at ripening stage 4 (more yellow than green) a stage that should be prioritized when recommending fruit consumption to the population deficient in these minerals. Regarding pigments, there was a reduction in chlorophylls a and b and an increase in carotenoids and anthocyanins in peels and pulps. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Flavonoids are phenolic, bioactive compounds with proven antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and products of the plant's secondary metabolism. The degradation of chlorophylls and synthesis of carotenoids and anthocyanins, and as a consequence of the latter pigment, the increase in flavonoids in the pulp was evident during the monitoring of ripening, mainly in the fruit peels in relation to pigments. High sperm cryotolerance is crucial to the successful cryopreservation of boar sperm. Evaluating the cryotolerance of boar sperm by using a rapid and convenient technique can enhance the commercial viability of these sperm. This study investigated the correlation between sperm parameters for three sample subsets-fresh sperm, sperm with H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative damage (hereinafter referred to as H 2 O 2 -induced sperm), and frozen-thawed sperm-to identify the potential of these correlations to predict cryotolerance. A total of 64 sperm samples were obtained from 64 Duroc boars. The sperm parameters of the three subsets, where the frozen-thawed sperm were analysed at 30 or 180 min after thawing, were determined, and the coefficients of correlation between these parameters were calculated. The results indicated that H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative stress resulted in decreases in various sperm parameters-including total motility (TM), viability (VIA), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and live sperm with MMP (LMP)-but increased their coefficients of variation. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis revealed that the kinematic parameters of the H 2 O 2 -induced sperm effectively predicted those of the frozen-thawed boar sperm at 30 min after thawing; the corresponding area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.8667 for TM and 0.8733 for progressive motility in the H 2 O 2 -induced sperm. For measurement at 180 min after thawing, the sperm membrane and mitochondrial parameters of the H 2 O 2 -induced sperm effectively predicted the LMP of the frozen-thawed boar sperm; the corresponding AUC was 0.8489 for VIA, 0.8289 for MMP, and 0.8444 for LMP. To our knowledge, this is the first study to directly establish a strong correlation between post-thaw boar sperm quality and H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative stress before freezing. Antioxidants are ubiquitous in various environmental samples, leading to increasing concern regarding their potential risk to environments or humans. However, there is dearth of information regarding the environmental fate of antioxidants and unknown/unexpected antioxidants in the environment. Here, we established a compound database (CDB) containing 320 current-used antioxidants by collecting the chemicals from EPA's functional use database and published documents. Physical-chemical characteristics of these antioxidants were estimated, and 19 ones were considered as persistent and bioaccumulative (P&B) substances. This CDB was further coupled with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) technique, which was employed for suspect screening of antioxidants in extracts of sediments (n = 88) collected from Taihu Lake basin. We screened 119 HRMS features that can match 135 chemical formulas in the CDB, and 20 out of them exhibited the detection frequencies ≥ 90%. The total concentrations of suspect antioxidants in sediments ranged from 6.41 to 830 ng/g dw. Statistical analysis demonstrated that concentrations of suspect antioxidants in Taihu Lake were statistically significantly lower than those in Shihu and Jiulihu Lake, but greater than those from other small lakes. Collectively, this study provided a CDB that could be helpful for further monitoring studies of antioxidant in the environments, and also provided the first evidence regarding the ubiquity of antioxidants in aquatic environment of Taihu Lake basin., (© 2024. Objectives: To determine the potential of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) volume, E-cadherin and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels to predict the outcomes of nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) for periodontitis patients., Background: NSPT is the gold-standard treatment for periodontal pockets < 6 mm in depth, however, successful outcomes are not always guaranteed due to several factors. Periodontitis-associated tissue destruction is evidenced by the increased level of soluble E-cadherin and reduced antioxidants in oral fluids which could be used as predictors for success/failure of NSPT., Materials and Methods: Patients with periodontitis (n = 24) were included in this clinical trial and full-mouth periodontal charting was recorded for each patient. GCF samples from periodontal pockets with probing pocket depth (PPD) 4-6 mm from the interproximal surfaces of anterior and premolar teeth were obtained. These sites subsequently received NSPT and were clinically re-evaluated after 1 and 3 months. Levels of GCF E-cadherin and TAC levels were assayed using ELISA., Results: All clinical periodontal parameters were significantly improved 3 months after completion of NSPT. These outcomes were associated with a significant decrease in E-cadherin levels and GCF volume, while TAC levels were significantly increased in samples obtained in follow-up appointments. Binary regression model analysis showed that PPD, GCF volume, E-cadherin, and TAC levels could significantly (p < .05) predict the outcomes of NSPT. Context: The antioxidant properties of the three polyphenolic compounds (carnosol, cirsiliol, and luteolin) of Salvia officinalis L. were investigated employing the density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP of basis set at 6-311 +  + G (d, p) in order to evaluate their antioxidant activity. The enthalpies of reactions associated with the SET-PT, SPLET, and HAT mechanisms were analyzed in gas and in different solvents using the CPCM (conductor-like polarizable continuum) model. For all possible hydrogen donor sites, the corresponding parameters (BDE, AIP, PDE, PA, ETE, HOMOs, and LUMOs) and reactivity indices (IPE, EA, Χ, η, S, and ω) were also evaluated. The calculated results showed that derivatives 12-OH, 11-OH, 4'-OH, and 3'-OH had the lowest antioxidant activity. The results showed as well that carnosol, cirsiliol, and luteolin have higher reactivity compared to ascorbic acid and could be considered better antioxidants. According to research, the catechol group is crucial in influencing the studied compounds antioxidant activity. The theoretically predicted order of antioxidant efficiencies in this work agrees well with the QSAR (quantitative structure-activity relationship) data. The findings show that in the vacuum as well as benzene media. HAT would be the most effective mechanism; in contrast, the thermodynamic equilibrium approach in polar media is the SPLET mechanism. Likewise, the outcomes of the docking modeling confirm that the selected molecules have high inhibitory activity to glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) receptors. Moreover, they have very important pharmacokinetic, chemical, and biological profiles. Finally, all the results show that the three natural molecules have good pharmacokinetic profiles, particularly the bioavailability and permeability toward biological membranes., Methods: The software packages used in this investigation are Gaussian 16, Discovery studio Visualizer, and AutoDock vina. The descriptors were associated with the antioxidant mechanisms for investigated molecules in vacuum and in various solvents. The molecular docking was used by AutoDock vina to estimate and evaluate the title compounds compatibility as potential antioxidant drugs utilizing appropriate receptor proteins. The solvation effect in the medium of benzene (ɛ = 2.27) and water (ɛ = 78.39) was taken into account. Flavonoids are known to covalently modify amyloidogenic peptides by amination reactions. The underlying coupling process between polyphenols and N-nucleophiles is assessed by several in vitro and in silico approaches. The coupling reaction involves a sequence of oxidative dearomatization, amination, and reductive amination (ODARA) reaction steps. The C6-regioselectivity of the product is confirmed by crystallographic analysis. Under aqueous conditions, the reaction of baicalein with lysine derivatives yields C-N coupling as well as hydrolysis products of transient imine intermediates. The observed C-N coupling reactions work best for flavonoids combining a pyrogallol substructure with an electron-withdrawing group attached to the C4a-position. Thermodynamic properties such as bond dissociation energies also highlight the key role of pyrogallol units for the antioxidant ability. Combining the computed electronic properties and in vitro antioxidant assays suggests that the studied pyrogallol-containing flavonoids act by various radical-scavenging mechanisms working in synergy. Multivariate analysis indicates that a small number of descriptors for transient intermediates of the ODARA process generates a model with excellent performance (r=0.93) for the prediction of cross-coupling yields. The successful preservation of ram semen is essential to promote genetic variability, ensure semen transportation, and inseminate multiple ewes. Currently, either animal or plant-based lipoprotein-based extenders are used for semen preservation. Animal product-based extenders include milk and egg yolk, while soybean lecithin is a plant-based extender. Although extenders containing products of animal origin better preserve the quality of chilled semen, the in vivo efficacy after 24 h of storage is still of great concern. Storage temperature is another important and effective factor in preserving sperm quality, whereby different storage temperatures are adopted to enhance the storage life of sperm. Low temperatures (4-5 °C) better preserve sperm quality for a longer duration than high temperatures (15, 20, and 25 °C). Moreover, antioxidant supplementation has a positive impact on sperm quality during liquid storage. Background: Numerous pharmaceutical applications for chitosan, a polysaccharide made from the shells of crustaceans by deacetylating chitin that occurs naturally, are currently being researched. Chitosan, a natural polymer, is successfully used to prepare many drug-carrier systems, such as gel, film, nanoparticle, and wound dressing., Objective: Preparing chitosan gels without external crosslinkers is less toxic and environmentally friendly., Methods: Chitosan-based gels containing Helichrysum pamphylicum P.H. Davis & Kupicha methanolic extract (HP) were produced successfully., Results: The F9-HP coded gel prepared with high molecular weight chitosan was chosen as the optimum formulation in terms of pH and rheological properties. The amount of HP was found to be 98.83% ± 0.19 in the F9-HP coded formulation. The HP release from the F9-HP coded formula was determined to be slower and 9 hours prolonged release compared to pure HP. It was determined that HP release from F9-HP coded formulation with the DDSolver program was by anomalous (non-fickian) diffusion mechanism. The F9-HP coded formulation significantly showed DPPH free radical scavenger, ABTS•+ cation decolorizing and metal chelating antioxidant activity while weakly reducing antioxidant potential. MXene‐based thermal camouflage materials have gained increasing attention due to their low emissivity, however, the poor anti‐oxidation restricts their potential applications under complex environments. Various modification methods and strategies, e.g., the addition of antioxidant molecules and fillers have been developed to overcome this, but the realization of long‐term, reliable thermal camouflage using MXene network (coating) with excellent comprehensive performance remains a great challenge. Here, a MXene‐based hybrid network comodified with hyaluronic acid (HA) and hyperbranched polysiloxane (HSi) molecules is designed and fabricated. Notably, the presence of appreciated HA molecules restricts the oxidation of MXene sheets without altering infrared stealth performance, superior to other water‐soluble polymers; while the HSi molecules can act as efficient cross‐linking agents to generate strong interactions between MXene sheets and HA molecules. The optimized MXene/HA/HSi composites exhibit excellent mechanical flexibility (folded into crane structure), good water/solvent resistance, and long‐term stable thermal camouflage capability (with low infrared emissivity of ≈0.29). The long‐term thermal camouflage reliability (≈8 months) under various outdoor weathers and the scalable coating capability of the MXene‐coated textile enable them to disguise the IR signal of various targets in complex environments, indicating the great promise of achieved material for thermal camouflage, IR stealth, and counter surveillance. Pulmonary and respiratory well-being is an important area of clinical studies, especially given the growing prevalence of breathing illnesses such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Antioxidants and nutraceuticals have garnered significant attention for their therapeutic roles in managing these conditions. This paper evaluates the current evidence of the efficacy of various antioxidants and nutraceuticals, including vitamins C and E, N-acetylcysteine, omega-3 fatty acids, and polyphenols, in improving respiratory health. Antioxidants help reduce oxidative stress, a primary factor in the pathogenesis of many respiratory diseases. Nutraceuticals provide a diet-based approach to support pulmonary function and reduce inflammation. Clinical studies have shown that these compounds can enhance lung function, decrease inflammation, and improve the overall quality of life in patients with respiratory issues. However, results are mixed, and larger-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm their benefits. Macrophages play a crucial role in aiding all phases of the wound‐healing process and has garnered increasing attention recently. Although a substantial body of related studies has been published, there remains a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis. In this study, we collected 4296 papers from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Three tools including CiteSpace, VOSviewer and one online analytical platform were employed to conduct bibliometric analysis and data visualization. Our results revealed that the annual number of publications related to macrophage and wound healing has increased exponentially with the year. The United States and China stand as the primary driving forces within this field, collectively constituting 58.2% of the total publication output. The application of biomaterials was one of the most concerned research areas in this field. According to references analysis, the current research focus has shifted to diabetic wound healing and regulating macrophage polarization. Based on the keywords analysis, we identified the following research frontiers in the future: exosomes and other extracellular vesicles; bio‐derived materials and drug delivery methods such as nanoparticles, scaffolds and hydrogels; immunomodulation and macrophage polarization in the M2‐state; chronic wounds, particularly those associated with diabetes; antimicrobial peptides; and antioxidant. Additionally, TNF, IL‐6, IL‐10, TGF‐β1 and VEGF ranked as the five genes that have garnered the most research attention in the intersection of macrophage and wound healing. All in all, our findings offered researchers a holistic view of the ongoing progress in the field of macrophages and wound healing, serving as a valuable reference for scholars and policymakers in this domain. In this study, ultrasonic-assisted (UA) alcohol/salt-based aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) method was constructed to extract lotus rhizome epidermis (LRE) polyphenols. The extraction conditions were optimized as salt concentration 26.75 %, ethanol concentration 25.45 %, ultrasonic power 487 W and liquid-solid ratio 35.33 mL/g by comparing response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN) models. Then, l-dopa (2.35 ± 0.036 mg/g dw), gallocatechin (1.66 ± 0.0035 mg/g dw) and epigallocatechin (1.37 ± 0.0035 mg/g dw) were determined as major polyphenols in LRE by using UA-ATPS method. Moreover, study showed that ultrasound, van der Waals force, hydrogen bond and salting out could accelerate the mass transfer and extraction of polyphenols in LRE cells. The high-pressure cavity and collapse effect of ultrasound could also accelerate the extraction of polyphenols. In vitro antioxidant experiments showed that LRE polyphenols have good antioxidant ability. Chlorella vulgaris and Tetraselmis chuii are two microalgae species already marketed because of their richness in high-value and health-beneficial compounds. Previous studies have demonstrated the biological properties of compounds isolated from both microalgae, although data are not yet available on the impact that pre-treatment and gastrointestinal digestion could exert on these properties. The aim of the present study was to analyze the impact of the biomass pre-treatment (freeze/thaw cycles plus ultrasounds) and simulated gastrointestinal digestion in the bioaccessibility and in vitro antioxidant activity (ABTS, ORAC, Q-FRAP, Q-DPPH) of the released digests. The cell wall from microalgae were susceptible to the pre-treatment and the action of saliva and gastric enzymes, releasing bioactive peptides and phenolic compounds that contributed to the potent antioxidant activity of digests through their radical scavenging and iron reduction capacities. Oxidative rancidity of food products and massive consumption of plastic packaging have put the necessity in manufacturing novel antioxidant biodegradable packaging films. A comprehensive investigation was conducted on starch/poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) antioxidant blown films, in which starch acted as a gatekeeper for the controlled release of propyl gallate (PG). PG was well integrated into the matrices and bound to starch molecules by hydrogen bonding. All films showed strong anti-ultraviolet performance, and higher oxygen barrier than the traditional polyethylene film. Increasing starch proportions promoted the swelling of films and the release of PG, thereby causing higher antioxidant activity at the same contact time to free radical solutions. Similar polarity made PG prone to partition and rapid migration into the food simulants with higher ethanol concentration and the high-fat-content peanut butter. The film with 20:80 w/w starch/PBAT proportion and 3% w/w PG content effectively suppressed the oxidation of peanut butter within 300-day storage. Methylcellulose (MC)/grape pomace (GP) films, plasticized with either glycerol (GLY) or cinnamon essential oil (CEO), were prepared by thermo-compression molding and characterized. Compared to the GLY-plasticized MC50/GP50 films, a considerable increase in TS and YM values of CEO-plasticized films was observed, rising from 9.66 to 30.05 MPa, 762 to 1631 MPa, respectively. Moreover, the water vapor barrier, surface hydrophobic properties, and antioxidant/antibacterial activities of CEO-plasticized films remarkedly improved with increasing CEO content from 5 to 15% w/w. From scanning electron microscopy, phase separation between GP and the MC/GLY mixture were evident for GLY-plasticized MC/GP films. On the other hand, the CEO-plasticized films showed compact morphologies, attributable to the formation of hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interaction. There is a lack of research on how Tibetan kefir grains fermentation alters the physicochemical properties and biological activity of Lycium barbarum pulp polysaccharides, despite some reports that fermentation can affect the structure and activity of plant polysaccharides. This study demonstrated that, through fermentation, the molecular weight of polysaccharides decreased from 25.33 to 15.11 kg/mol while the contents of total sugar and uronic acid increased by 19.11% and 40.38%, respectively. Furthermore, after fermentation, the polysaccharides exhibited an uneven and rough surface along with a reduced number of branched chains and triple helix structures. Tibetan kefir grains fermentation enhanced the antioxidant activity of polysaccharides, which may be attributed to an increase in arabinose, galactose, and uronic acid content and a decrease in polysaccharide molecular weight. Jabuticaba peel, rich in antioxidants, offering health benefits. In this study, the extraction of phenolic compounds from jabuticaba peel using ultrasound-assisted (UA) and their subsequent concentration by nanofiltration (NF) employing a polyamide 200 Da membrane was evaluated. The UA extractions were conducted using the Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD) 22 methodology, with independent variables extraction time (11.55 to 138 min) and temperature (16.87 to 53.3 °C), and fixed variables mass to ethanol solution concentration at pH 1.0 (1:25 g/mL), granulometry (1 mm), and ultrasonic power (52.8 W). The maximum concentrations obtained were 700.94 mg CE/100 g for anthocyanins, 945.21 mg QE/100 g for flavonoids, 133.19 mg GAE/g for phenols, and an antioxidant activity IC50 of 24.36 μg/mL. Key phenolic compounds identified included cyanidin-3-glucoside, delphinidin-3-glucoside, and various acids like syringic and gallic. NF successfully concentrated these compounds, enhancing their yield by up to 45%. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary Allium mongolicum Regel powder (AMRP) supplementation on the growth performance, meat quality, antioxidant capacity and muscle fibre characteristics of fattening Angus calves. Growth performance data and longissimus thoracis (LT) samples were collected from four groups of fattening Angus, which were fed either a basal diet (CON) or a basal diet supplemented with an AMRP dose of 10 (LAMR), 15 (MAMR), or 20 g/animal/day AMRP (HAMR) for 120 days before slaughter. AMRP addition to the feed improved growth performance and meat quality and altered muscle fibre type. Some responses to AMRP supplementation were dose dependent, whereas others were not. The pecan nutshell [Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh) C. Koch] (PNS) is a source of bioactives with important beneficial properties for the human health. PNS represents between 40-50 % of total mass of the nut, resulting as waste without any added value for the food industry. Even though a variety of methods were already developed for bioactive extraction from this waste, unconventional methodologies, or those which apart from green chemistry principles, were discarded considering the cost of production, the sustainable development goals of United Nations and the feasibility of real inclusion of the technology in the food chain. Then, to add-value to this waste, a low-cost, green and easy-scalable extraction methodology was developed based on the determination of seven relevant factors by means of a factorial design and a Response Surface Methodology, allowing the extraction of bioactives with antioxidant capacity. The pecan nutshell extract had a high concentration of phenolic compounds (166 mg gallic acid equivalents-GAE/g dry weight-dw), flavonoids (90 mg catechin equivalent-CE/g dw) and condensed tannins (189 mg CE/g dw) -related also to the polymeric color (74.6 %)-, with high antioxidant capacities of ABTS +. radical inhibition (3665 µmol Trolox Equivalent-TE/g dw) and of iron reduction (1305 µmol TE/g dw). Several compounds associated with these determinations were identified by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS, such as [Epi]catechin-[Epi]catechin-[Epi]gallocatechin, myricetin, dihydroquercetins, dimers A and B of protoanthocyanidins, ellagitannins and ellagic acid derivatives. Molecular hydrogen is beneficial for fruits quality improvement. However, the mechanism involved, especially cellular metabolic responses, has not been well established. Here, the integrated widely targeted metabolomics analysis (UPLC-MS/MS) and biochemical evidence revealed that hydrogen-based irrigation could orchestrate, either directly or indirectly, an array of physiological responses in blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) during harvesting stage, especially for the delayed senescence in harvested stage (4 °C for 12 d). The hubs to these changes are wide-ranging metabolic reprogramming and antioxidant machinery. A total of 1208 distinct annotated metabolites were identified, and the characterization of differential accumulated metabolites (DAMs) revealed that the reprogramming, particularly, involves phenolic acids and flavonoids accumulation. These changes were positively matched with the transcriptional profiles of representative genes for their synthesis during the growth stage. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation has been proven to promote human health. The effect of different LAB fermentation on the quality of Opuntia ficus-indica fruit juice (OFIJ) was investigated. OFIJ was an excellent substrate for fermentation, with colony counts of more than 8 log CFU/mL after fermentation. The fermentation altered the acid and sugar contents. Simultaneously, the total phenolic and anthocyanin contents significantly increased. Antioxidant activity enhanced significantly in Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HNU082-fermented OFIJ, primarily in ABTS + (increased by 16.81%) and DPPH (increased by 23.62%) free radical scavenging ability. Lacticaseibacillus paracasei HNU502-fermented OFIJ showed the most potent inhibition of xanthine oxidase (IC 50  = 31.01 ± 3.88 mg TAC/L). Analysis of volatile and non-volatile compounds indicated that fermentation changed the flavor quality and metabolic profiles and caused the most significant modifications in amino acid metabolism. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Phlomis crinita Cav. (Lamiaceae), locally known as "El Khayata" or "Kayat El Adjarah", is traditionally used in Algeria for its wound-healing properties., Aim of the Study: Investigate, for the first time, the phytochemical profile, safety, antioxidant and wound-healing activities of the flowering tops methanolic extract of P. crinita (PCME) collected from Bouira Province in the North of Algeria., Materials and Methods: Preliminary phytochemical assays were carried out on PCME to quantify the main classes of bioactive compounds, such as total phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. Antioxidant activity was investigated by several colorimetric and fluorimetric assays (DPPH, TEAC, FRAP, ORAC, β-carotene bleaching and ferrozine assay). The acute oral toxicity of PCME (2000 mg/kg b.w.) was tested in vivo on Swiss albino mice, whereas the acute dermal toxicity and wound-healing properties of the PCME ointment (1-5% PCMO) were tested in vivo on Wistar albino rats. Biochemical and histological analyses were carried out on biological samples., Results: The phytochemical screening highlighted a high content of phenolic compounds (175.49 ± 0.8 mg of gallic acid equivalents/g of dry extract), mainly flavonoids (82.28 ± 0.44 mg of quercetin equivalents/g of dry extract). Fifty-seven compounds were identified by LC-DAD-ESI-MS analysis, belonging mainly to the class of flavones (32.27%), with luteolin 7-(6″-acetylglucoside) as the most abundant compound and phenolic acids (32.54%), with salvianolic acid C as the most abundant compound. A conspicuous presence of phenylethanoids (15.26%) was also found, of which the major constituent is forsythoside B. PCME showed a strong antioxidant activity with half-inhibitory activity (IC 50 ) ranging from 1.88 to 37.88 μg/mL and a moderate iron chelating activity (IC 50 327.44 μg/mL). PCME appears to be safe with Lethal Dose 50 (LD 50 ) ≥ 2000 mg/kg b.w. No mortality or toxicity signs, including any statistically significant changes in body weight gain and relative organs' weight with respect to the control group, were recorded. A significant (p < 0.001) wound contraction was observed in the 5% PCMO-treated group with respect to the untreated and petroleum jelly groups between 8 and 20 days, whereas no statistically significant results were observed at the two lower doses (1 and 2% PCMO). Barley leaves (BLs) naturally contained abundant phenolics, most of which are hardly completely released from food matrix during gastrointestinal digestion. Superfine grinding (SFG) and high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) are generally used to treat the functional plants due to their effectiveness to cell wall-breaking and improvement of nutraceutical bioavailability. Thus, this study investigated the synergistic effects of SFG and HHP (100, 300, 500 MPa/20 min) on the bioaccessbility of typical phenolics in BLs during the simulated in-vitro digestion. The results demonstrated that the highest bioaccessbility (40.98%) was found in the ultrafine sample with HHP at 500 MPa. CLSM and SEM confirmed SFG led to microstructurally rapture of BLs. Moreover, the recovery index of ABTS radical scavenging activity and FRAP of HHP-treated ultrafine and fine BLs samples maximumly increased by 53.62% and 9.61%, respectively. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Justicia adhatoda L. is used as traditional medicine in Nepal to treat cough, asthma, and inflammatory disorders, and is indicated as "Asuro". Leaves are used worldwide as herbal medicine due to cardiotonic, expectorant, anti-asthmatic, and bronchodilatory properties. The aim of this work was to study the phytochemical composition of leaves of Nepalese J. adhatoda and assess their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in vitro., Materials and Methods: Secondary metabolites were extracted from dried leaves using methanol (JAME: J. adhatoda methanol extract). They were analysed by means of liquid chromatography coupled with multiple-stage mass spectrometry (LC-MS n ). Anti-inflammatory potential was determined by the NF-κB and AP-1 inhibition assay, and DPPH, ABTS, and β-carotene bleaching assays were performed to assess its antioxidant properties., Results: JAME is a rich source of secondary metabolites, especially quinazoline alkaloids such as vasicine, vasicinone, vasicoline, and adhatodine. 7-Hydroxy derivatives of peganidine, vasicolinone, and adhatodine were also identified by means of MS n data and are here reported in J. adhatoda for the first time. JAME inhibited NF-κB and AP-1 expression in THP-1 cells to a greater extent than the positive control prednisolone. A moderate radical-quenching property was observed in DPPH and ABTS assays, but the anti-carotene bleaching activity was significantly higher than the reference BHT., Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first insight into the phytochemical composition of Asuro leaves from Nepal and their bioactivity. The utilization of essential oils as natural antioxidants and preservatives is limited by high volatility, poor water solubility, and long-term instability. To address this, a novel ultrasonic-assisted method was used to prepare and stabilize a nanoemulsion of turmeric essential oil-in-water, incorporating bioactive components extracted from Spirulina platensis. Ultrasonic treatment enhanced the extraction efficacy and nanoemulsion stability. Algal biomass subjected to ultrasonic treatment (30 min at 80% amplitude) yielded a dry extract of 73.66 ± 3.05%, with the highest protein, phenolic, phycocyanin, and allophycocyanin content, as well as maximum emulsifying activity. The resulting nanoemulsion (5% oil, 0.3% extract, 10 min ultrasonic treatment) showed reduced particle size (173.31 ± 2.24 nm), zeta potential (-36.33 ± 1.10 mV), low polydispersity index, and enhanced antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Rheology analysis indicated shear-thinning behavior, while microscopy and spectroscopy confirmed structural changes induced by ultrasonic treatment and extract concentration. In order to prevent the photooxidation of phytosterols, a new type of Pickering emulsion was developed by regulating the oriented distribution of antioxidants in colloidal lipid particles (CLPs) at the oil-water interface. High-melting-point and low-melting-point lipids were tested to modulate their protective effect against phytosterols photooxidation. Results showed that CLPs could stabilize Pickering emulsion and encapsulate antioxidants, providing a dual functional delivery system for phytosterols protection. The Pickering emulsion formed had a particle size of around 350-820 nm, and the crystallization and melting temperatures of tripalmitin particles were approximately 32 °C and 63.8 °C, respectively. The addition of tributyrin or tricaprylin reduced the crystallization and melting temperatures of Pal CLPs and improved the photooxidation emulsion stability. The prepared Pickering emulsion remained stable for a maximum of 12 days under accelerated light-induced oxidation. To verfy their difference from isolated fatty acids, the absolute kinetics of peroxidation was studied for seven triglyceride-based oils of olive (OLI-1, OLI-2), high-oleic sunflower (SUN-HO), high-oleic and high-linoleic safflower (SAF-HO, SAF-HL) grapeseed (GRA) and borage (BOR), by oxygen uptake monitoring, using 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol and 2,2,5,7,8-pentamethyl-6-chromanol as reference inhibitors. Propagation constants (k p /M -1  s -1 at 303 K in PhCl) were respectively 34.8 ± 2.3, 35.1 ± 1.8, 40.6 ± 5.5, 36.0 ± 7.7, 160.8 ± 5.1, 145.1 ± 24.5, 275.1 ± 63.8, while oxidizability responded to empirical equation k p (2k t ) -½ /M -½ s -½  = 1.63 × 10 -3 [allyl >CH 2 /M] + 1.82 × 10 -2 [bisallyl >CH 2 /M], based on fatty acids residues assessed by GC-MS. Peroxidation kinetics was markedly different from that of isolated fatty acids. The H-bond basicity of all oils was measured by FT-IR affording Abraham's β H values in the range 0.55 ± 0.03. The current study analysed the antioxidant capacity of the main phenolics found in red fruits. In total, there were analysed the antioxidant activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical, nitric oxide and superoxide radicals (DPPH, NO and O 2 - , respectively) of 23 phenolics. Regarding DPPH, anthocyanins, (-)-epicatechin and kaempferol 3-O-rutinoside were the most active, while isorhamnetin 3-O-glucoside was the least active. Anthocyanins, (-)-epicatechin, quercetin 3-O-glucoside and caffeic acid showed the strongest potential against NO, while ρ-hydroxybenzoic acid was the less efficient. Regarding the O 2 - assay, quercetin aglycone and their derivatives were the best ones, while cyanidin aglycone did not show any potential to quench this radical. To deeper explore the biological potential of the most promising compounds, docking molecular and ADME studies were also done. Plastic production has experienced a significant increase in the last sixty years due to its cost-efficiency and adaptable characteristics, leading to the extensive use of additives to improve its performance and longevity. Due to the high demand for plastic, plastic waste production has increased, contaminating the environment and living beings by leaching additives, among other substances. Pyrolysis stands out among recycling techniques because it can handle mixed polymer waste feedstock. However, understanding the pyrolyzates distribution of additives is fundamental to assessing pyrolysis process of plastic waste. This study investigated the pyrolysis product distributions of two commonly used antioxidants, namely, Irgafos 168 and zinc stearate (ZnSt), using one-dimensional gas chromatography equipped with a quadruple mass spectrometer (GC-MS) and two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled to flame ionization detector and time-of-flight mass spectrometer (GC×GC-FID/TOF-MS). While GC separation technique provided limited information on product distribution, GC×GC offered enhanced resolution and identification of the decomposition products. In the pyrolysis of Irgafos 168 at 550 °C, GC identified 18 products, while GC×GC identified 198 products, representing an increase of approximately 11-fold. Similarly, for ZnSt, GC identified 67 products, while GC×GC identified 434 products, representing a 6-fold increase. GC×GC identified decomposition products from 15 different chemical classes for Irgafos 168 and 16 chemical classes for ZnSt, compared to 4 and 11 chemical classes identified by GC, respectively. Phenols and their derivatives were the major chemical class in the decomposition products of Irgafos 168 with a yield of 9.51 wt.%. In contrast, olefinic products were the dominant ones for ZnSt, with a yield of 9.73 wt.%. The major decomposition product of Irgafos 168 and ZnSt was 2‑tert‑butyl‑methylphenol (C 11 H 16 O) and C6 olefin (C 6 H 12 ) with yields of 3.88 wt.%, and 1.13 wt.%, respectively. Utilizing the GC×GC separation method improved the ability to identify decomposition products, which can ultimately lead to a better understanding of antioxidant degradation that occurs during the pyrolysis process. GC×GC also provided thorough characterization of minor and co-eluted products along with major antioxidant degradation products. Additionally, the decomposition product distribution of Irgafos 168 and ZnSt was also compared with the primary antioxidants, Irganox 1010, Irganox 1076, and BHT, studied in part 1. Plastics incorporate diverse additives, including primary antioxidants with a typical amount between 0.05 to 3 wt.%, to enhance plastics functionality and durability, preventing their oxidation and maintaining their mechanical properties. While these antioxidants offer substantial benefits, their degradation can significantly impact plastic pyrolysis by changing the pyrolysis oil product distribution. Understanding the intricate distribution of decomposition products resulting from pyrolysis is essential yet often overlooked. This study delved into the analysis of the decomposition of common primary antioxidants, namely, Irganox 1010, Irganox 1076, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), utilizing both one-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with a quadruple mass spectrometer (GC-MS) and two-dimensional gas chromatography equipped with flame ionization detector and time-of-flight mass spectrometer (GC×GC-FID/TOF-MS). This study showed that GC×GC-FID/TOF-MS provided a more detailed characterization of the pyrolysis product distribution of primary antioxidants used in plastics in comparison to GC-MS. For each of the antioxidants, using the GC×GC-FID/TOF-MS analytical approach enhanced the identification of degradation products at least fivefold. Furthermore, GC×GC-FID/TOF-MS identified products of more chemical classes than GC-MS. For instance, compounds from 14 chemical classes were identified from GC×GC-FID/TOF-MS in the pyrolysis of Irganox 1010, whereas only 9 chemical classes were identified in GC-MS. Olefins were the major chemical class for both Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1076 in the decomposition process, accounting for 23.25 wt.% and 20.76 wt.%, respectively. Ketones were the major chemical class in the case of BHT, having a 6.68 wt.% yield. Massive use of plastic products has caused their accumulation in soils, releasing large amounts of endogenous plastic additives (e.g., benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers, in short BZT-UVs) into terrestrial ecosystems. However, their plant toxicity is little known. Herein, we investigated the occurrence of BZT-UVs in contaminated farmland and selected three BZT-UV congeners to explore their toxic effects on the antioxidant, photosynthetic, and metabolic perturbation on rice (Oryza sativa). Results showed that the mean concentrations of ∑BZT-UVs in soil and plant samples were 180.7 ng/g dw and 156.4 ng/g dw, respectively. UV-P, UV-327 and UV-328 were the dominant BZT-UV congeners in both of soils and plants. Three BZT-UV congeners caused oxidative damages to rice in a dose-dependent manner, especially for UV-328. Functional genes involved in chlorophyll synthetases was inhibited by over 50 % under the stress of BZT-UVs, whereas those responsible for chlorophyll degradation were obviously promoted. The chlorophyll content was thus decreased, leading to a weakened photosynthesis system and an unbalanced carbon metabolism. The transcriptome and metabolome proved that the flux of carbohydrate metabolism and amino acid metabolism were obviously promoted in plants induced by BZT-UVs, which could inhibit the growth of rice. Toxicity assessments of pollutants often overlook the impact of environmental factors like hypoxia, which can alter chemical toxicity with unexpected consequences. In this study, Mugilogobius chulae, an estuarine fish, was used to investigate the effects of hypoxia (H), aspirin (ASA), and their combination (H&#95;ASA) exposure over 24, 72, and 168 h. We employed RNA-seq analysis, expression of key gene expression profiling, enzymatic activity assays, and histopathological and ultrastructural examinations of liver tissue to explore the effects and mechanisms of ASA-coupled hypoxia exposure in fish. Results showed that glycolysis was inhibited, and lipolysis was enhanced in ASA/H&#95;ASA groups. The PPAR signaling pathway was activated, increasing fatty acid β-oxidation and lipophagy to mitigate energy crisis. Both ASA and H&#95;ASA exposures induced p53 expression and inhibited the TOR pathway to combat environmental stress. However, a greater energy demand and heightened sensitivity to ASA were observed in H&#95;ASA compared to ASA exposure. Disruptions in energy and detoxification pathways led to increased stress responses, including enhanced antioxidant activities, autophagy, and apoptotic events, as observed in organelle structures. Overall, sub-chronic H&#95;ASA exposure caused liver injury in M. chulae by affecting energy metabolism, antioxidant regulation, and autophagy processes.
