School-wide positive behavior interventions and supports (SWPBIS) is a tiered framework that supports the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students. In this study, we conducted a conceptual replication of Grasley-Boy et al. (2022a) and used a series of two-level linear multilevel analyses to examine the impact of SWPBIS fidelity on 10 exclusionary discipline outcomes for students with disabilities (SWD). Specifically, we compared schools that implemented multiple SWPBIS tiers with fidelity to schools that only implemented Tier 1 with fidelity from a sample of 558 schools in 113 districts in California. Findings indicate a statistically significant decrease in multiple out-of-school suspension categories as well as referrals to law enforcement for SWD in schools that implemented all tiers with fidelity. We provide recommendations for using findings to inform school efforts to reduce exclusionary discipline for SWD.

Physical education classrooms reflect a range of learners, movers, and abilities. Incoming physical educators report lacking confidence and knowledge in their ability to create inclusive lesson plans. Many undergraduate and liberal studies students are required to take one adaptative physical education pedagogy course; thus, incoming educators tend to lack an array of instructional tools to ensure all students are participating in activities and engaging with peers. The goal of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is for teachers to use a range of strategies by removing barriers to learning and giving students opportunities to experience physical education to the best of their ability. Physical educators have the foundational tools; they just need to envision using those tools differently. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how, by combining the physical education and UDL frameworks, educators can implement an inclusive lesson with a skills rubric and a summative assessment.

In this article, we address the question: How do educators of the deaf and hard-of-hearing (EODs) perceive their role vis-a-vis communication modality and educational philosophy of deaf and hard-of-hearing (D/HH) children? Using an ethnographic framework, we report on findings from semi-structured interviews conducted with 16 EODs across public, private, and state levels in California. Through thematic analysis of interview transcripts, we found that EODs have strongly adopted a perspective of supporting informed parent choice. Building on a relational sociology framework, we discuss how these efforts are impacted by ableism, which permeates the network of interdependent social relations and systems that constitute the larger D/HH field. In highlighting the socially structured and produced nature of the decision-making process for parents of D/HH children (Bourdieu, P. 1977. "Outline of a theory of practice. Cambridge University Press"), we argue that to support informed parent choice more effectively, the entire system of relations would need to reflect on the way in which ableism and audism are pervasive throughout the system.

In this collaborative, multi-voice paper we tell the story of our design collaboration. By describing the process of one design team of teacher educators, we offer a template of what it means to center teachers' lives and experiences as we design professional development with and for them.

Despite a myriad of linguistic and cultural barriers, immigrant parents of children with disabilities in the United States have adopted a variety of advocacy strategies. Drawing upon the frameworks of Community Cultural Wealth and Ecological Systems Theory, this study explores how Korean immigrant mothers of children with disabilities advocate for their children within the special education system in the United States. Seven Korean immigrant mothers participated in semi-structured focus group interviews. The findings reveal that these mothers use various strategies, such as seeking resources, attending training, and engaging with support networks within the Korean immigrant community. They also proactively acquired knowledge of special education policies and sought assistance from legal advocacy groups. However, they face challenges in accessing information due to linguistic barriers and a lack of clear descriptions of their children's rights and available services. They also identified that their intersecting racial, ethnic, cultural, and gender identities contribute to their experiences of discrimination and disadvantage. The study underscores the importance of providing tailored information, enhancing community support, and addressing systemic barriers to empower immigrant mothers within the special education system. Implications for schools, school psychologists, and families are discussed, along with recommendations for future research.

Most teachers report wanting more training and support to teach autistic students. Individual, autism-focused coaching is a promising approach for improving teacher self-efficacy and autistic student outcomes. Given the high workload demands of coaching, it must be feasible and acceptable. This study considers coaches', teachers', and autistic peoples' perspectives to identify key components integral to autism-focused coaching as well as strategies that enhance the feasibility and acceptability of each component. Interviews with seven K-2nd grade teachers, ten autistic adolescents and adults, and a focus group with six coaches were qualitatively examined using an inductive approach and incorporated grounded theory practices to develop an autism-focused coaching framework. This framework consists of four contextual elements that were identified as crucial to coaching within an autism-specific context, including the use of a neurodiversity-affirming lens and coaches' strong autism knowledge. This framework also comprises eight sequential coaching components informed by principles of adult learning theory (e.g. observation, feedback, self-reflection) that are generalizable to supporting teachers' work with autistic and neurodivergent students. These findings offer guidance to coaches and program developers regarding key components to implement when working with teachers supporting autistic students. We highlight specific recommendations within each component to maximize the feasibility and social validity of autism-specific coaching.

Ms. Braun, a new Special Education Director in the Baso Unified School District, is under pressure to curtail district expenditures on special education services. In her quest to understand why special education enrollment has increased, Ms. Braun learns about the challenges students face when accessing physical and mental health services at school and in the community. This case illustrates how initiatives for improving special education intersect with other district priorities and sheds light on the challenges education and health administrators face in fostering effective cross-sector collaboration.
