This article discusses a study that explores how Chinese readers use contextual cues to segment words in Chinese texts. The study found that both lexical-level and sentence-level contextual cues are important for word segmentation, with higher frequency words and words favored by the sentence context being more likely to be segmented correctly. The study also found that readers may use the sentence-level cue earlier in the segmentation process. Another experiment using eye-tracking technology showed that the presence of semantically related words and sentence-level context influenced readers' segmentation of sentences. The optimization study of rare earth elements (REEs) leaching from electronic waste is imperative for industrial-scale development with cost- and energy-efficient processing. Response surface methodology (RSM) with the principle of central composite design (CCD) was utilized to optimize the Y and Eu leaching process from waste cathode ray tube (CRT) phosphor in subcritical water extraction. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) demonstrated that acid concentration and leaching temperature had a significant effect on the leaching efficiency of Y and Eu in subcritical water extraction. The obtained optimum conditions of Y and Eu leaching from waste CRT phosphor were 1.15 mol/L H 2 SO 4 solution as the leaching agent, 166 ± 1 °C, for 27 min in subcritical water at a 20 g/L of solid to liquid (S/L) ratio. The experiment under optimum conditions resulted in 99.07 % and 99.62 % leaching efficiency of Y and Eu, respectively, which had a relative error of less than 1 % from the value predicted by the model. Selective separation of Y and Eu from the leaching solution was carried out as well and it resulted in 87.72 % and 95.11 % recovery of Y and Eu, respectively. The recovery product consists mainly of REE(PO 4). This study could be the alternative process for electronic waste utilization as the secondary resources of valuable rare metals promoting the circular economy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• A Mesoporous humidity control materials was prepared from stone sludge and CRT waste panel glass. • Stone sludge and CRT waste panel glass comprises a substantial amount of extractable and processable alumino-silicate. • The Al-MCM-41 has abundant mesoporous, large specific surface area and pore volume. • Mesoporous in Al-MCM-41 is in favor of capillary condensation and moisture adsorption. • Amine-grafted Al-MCM-41 with humidity control capability was successfully prepared. This study sought to overcome the high energy consumption of mechanical dehumidifiers by synthesizing humidity control materials using alumino-silicate raw materials extracted from stone sludge and cathode ray tube (CRT) waste panel glass. The structure of the synthesized materials matches that of Mobil Composition of Matter No. 41 (MCM-41) mesoporous molecular sieves, which was subjected to amine functionalization using (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane at various concentrations (2.5, 5, 7.5 vol.%). The resulting materials were characterized using X-ray fluorescence analysis, small angle X-ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method, and 27Al solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. Al-MCM-41 molecular sieves with 5.0% grafted amine functional groups presented high specific surface area and high pore uniformity resulting in the highest equilibrium moisture content (39.4 kg/kg). The high thermal and humidity buffer capacity of the proposed material could greatly enhance the comfort of interior spaces without the energy consumption of mechanical dehumidifiers. Rare earth elements (REE) are a series of chemical elements characterized by physicochemical properties that give them special niche applications. Neodymium-based permanent magnets and cathode-ray tube (CRT) phosphors are important components, widely used in critical electric and electronic devices that rely on those elements. Recycling rare earth elements from these residues is very beneficial from environmental and economic points of view. Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) is a conventional non-destructive technique that delivers fast and accurate results regarding chemical composition, particularly appropriate for field analyses when using a portable equipment. However, neither rare earth elements nor this kind of matrixes are included in portable XRF spectrometer manufacturer's calibrations, making this technique difficult to be used to evaluate the presence of REE. Therefore, in this work, calibrations for rare earth elements and other main elements present in cathode-ray tube phosphors and neodymium-based permanent magnets were developed, mimicking target matrixes with metal oxides and sulphides using different composition combinations according to literature reported contents. Calibrations were installed in a portable XRF equipment with the objective of providing an easy and fast method for operational industry measurements. Spectra obtained were treated using proprietary software taking in consideration the overlap of peaks and matrix effects. The final installed calibrations were tested with simulated and real waste specimens of waste materials. Implementing these calibrations on a portable XRF spectrometer can aid screening of target WEEE and estimation of REE content at e-waste recycling plants in a fast and accurate way. The results show quantification is possible in real samples for all key elements in CRT phosphors and NdFeB magnets, but also that magnets are far more challenging to work with. In this study, a new lead (Pb) and chlorine (Cl) recovery process via the thermal co-treatment of Municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration fly ash (FA) and waste cathode-ray tubes (CRT) was developed and the synergistic effects under different CRT ratios, temperatures, and residence times were comprehensively investigated. Thermogravimetric experiments revealed that the co-processing of FA and CRT exhibited a remarkable synergistic effect as evidenced by the considerable increase in mass loss and mass-loss rate when compared with the theoretical values. When the mixtures with 50% CRT addition was treated at 1200 °C for 60 min, Pb removal rate reached the maximum value of 98.67%, and the Cl removal rate considerably increased by 37.32% compared to that with FA treatment alone. Additionally, the Cl content in the residue was < 2%. It was mainly attributed to the volatilization of chlorides, such as PbCl 2 , NaCl, and KCl. CaCl 2 generated from the decomposition of CaClOH in FA was conducive to improve Pb removal in CRT through indirect chlorination and destroying the glass structure in CRT. Co-processing of FA and CRT demonstrates promising potential for several benefits, including the reduction in melting temperature, recovery of Pb and Cl from secondary fly ash, and the reutilization of calcium-rich slag.
