The article discusses the "National Groundwater Reform" of Rick Evans and colleagues that was published in November 2006 in Australia. It addresses the need for effective monitoring, enforcement and prosecution of illegal groundwater extraction. The report suggests reducing sustainable levels, as well as water licensing from low-yield stock and domestic users. Furthermore, it recommends proper allocation for environmental purposes and wetland sustenance for water management. Rectification, carbon trading and effective pricing are proposed as a response to climatic change.
