This paper focuses on climate change in Turkey caused by energy consumption using an Autoregressive Distributed Lag and Toda-Yamamoto causality analysis. The motivation and aim are: Finding evidence of causality for the relationship between energy consumption, growing economies and climate change depending on parameters that vary over time, which are observed and argued through political implications. Temperature and precipitation are the dependent variables for climate change; energy types and Gross Domestic Product per capita are the independent variables for economic determiners. Data was collected annually from various institutions between 1980 and 2019. According to the Toda-Yamamoto test, a negative relationship is determined between renewable energy consumption and temperature in both the short and long term. The results reveal that a 1% increase in renewable energy reduces the temperature by 0.031%. The increase of renewable energy may help in decreasing temperature. Precipitation and non-renewable energy consumption have a positive relationship in both the short and long term, with a 1% increase in non-renewable energy consumption causing a 0.175% increase in precipitation, indicating a negative effect on climate change. Encouraging renewable energy consumption through government incentives can be a powerful solution to decrease the negative effects of climate change in Turkey. • This study examines the relationships between climate change and energy consumption. • It conducts an ARDL analysis and Toda-Yamamoto causality tests in a growing economy. • Renewable energy consumption has a positive effect (reduces) temperature. • Non-renewable energy consumption has a negative effect (increases) precipitation. • Renewable energy consumption is critical mitigating global warming in Turkey. Abstract: Global temperature rise due to climate change has become a major concern for the policy makers. Since rising temperature has significant impact on electricity demand, the expansion of the electricity network and related augmentation plan of power industries will be affected due to the change in climatic conditions. This paper proposes an analytical tool to examine the effect of climate change on the electricity demand of New South Wales, Australia. Multiple linear regression analysis has been applied for the historical climatic and non-climatic variables to establish a correlation between per capita electricity demand and associated key variables. Time series analysis is then carried out to predict future temperature and corresponding cooling and heating degree days of New South Wales. Using the proposed analytical tool, per capita electricity demand rise is estimated solely due to temperature change. The results obtained indicate that electricity demands in summer and spring will increase due to climate change. It is found that an increase in temperature alone may lead to 1.36%, 2.72% and 6.14% rise in per capita demand during the summer season and 2.09%, 4.5% and 11.3% rise in per capita demand rise during the spring session of 2030s, 2050s and 2100s respectively. Abstract: Changes on water resources volume of 1960–2007 in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River are discussed in this paper. A time series (1960–2007) and its spatial patterns of actual evapotranspiration (ETa) estimation are analyzed based on Advection-Aridity model (A–A model) with selected parameters for 72 meteorological stations in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River Basin. The result indicates that average ETa of the basin changed in stages: slight increases in the first decade; a drop followed by fluctuations and lower increases in the next ten years; and then a dramatic decline in the latest decade, with three abrupt change years detected in the early 1970s, 1990s, and 2000s. ETa increases from mountainous northwest areas to plains in eastern areas, with significant decreases in plain regions and increases in the mountain region. ETa in the Sichuan Basin is found to decrease at the most rapid rate, and ETa in the sub-area to the south of the upland mountain region is increasing significantly. Such patterns of spatial trend in ETa result in reductions in regional variation, both annually and in all seasons. The change in ETa of this area is believed to be related to local water resource changes, and is impacted by the changes in climate factors. Temperature of this area has increased, and sunshine duration hours have shortened, leading to a reduction in net radiation. Relative humidity also has decreased. Comprehensively, reduction in both energy and moisture supply for evapotranspiration result in an increasing ETa. Moreover, a sharp drop of ETa occurred in the early 2000s, and meteorological factors including wind speed also show abrupt change to different extents. The impact of ETa on regional water balance at both inter-annual and intra-annual scales is also discussed in this study. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
