One of the most widely used measures of scientific impact is the number of citations. However, due to its heavy-tailed distribution, citations are fundamentally difficult to predict but can be improved. This study was aimed at investigating the factors and parts influencing the citation number of a scientific paper in the otology field. Therefore, this work proposes a new solution that utilizes machine learning and natural language processing to process English text and provides a paper citation as the predicted results. Different algorithms are implemented in this solution, such as linear regression, boosted decision tree, decision forest, and neural networks. The application of neural network regression revealed that papers' abstracts have more influence on the citation numbers of otological articles. This new solution has been developed in visual programming using Microsoft Azure machine learning at the back end and Programming Without Coding Technology at the front end. Mechanical properties are important indicators for evaluating the quality of strips. This paper proposes a mechanical performance prediction model based on the Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm and the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) algorithm. In the modeling process, GWO is used to determine the optimal weights and deviations of ELM and experiments are used to determine the model's key parameters. The model effectively avoids manual intervention and significantly improves aluminum alloy strips' mechanical property prediction accuracy. This paper uses processed data from the aluminum alloy production plant of Shandong Nanshan Aluminum Co., Ltd. as experimental data. When the prediction deviation is controlled within ±10%, the GWO-ELM model can achieve a correct rate of 100% for tensile strength, 97.5% for yield strength, and 77.5% for elongation on the test set. The RMSE of the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the GWO-ELM model was 5.365, 11.881, and 1.268, respectively. The experimental results show that the GWO-ELM model has higher accuracy and stability in predicting aluminum alloy strips' tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. The competition in the telecommunications industry is mainly reflected in the competition for the number of key customers. Therefore, how to effectively prevent the loss of large customers is a problem that many telecommunications companies are very concerned about. This paper establishes a customer churn prediction model based on the improved bat algorithm (IBA) optimized extreme learning machine (ELM), with the purpose of discovering potential churn customers in time and taking measures to retain them in advance. This paper uses the IBA to optimize the initial random weights of the ELM, so as to improve the prediction accuracy of the ELM. To overcome the shortcomings of the bat algorithm (BA) that the convergence speed is too slow in the early stage and difficult to converge in the later stage, this paper introduces the inertia weight into the speed update formula. To improve the population diversity and local search ability of the BA, this paper adds a chaotic local search method to balance the global search ability of the BA in the early stage. To control the search range of the BAs in the later stage, the lane flight formula is introduced into the position update formula to speed up the convergence speed of the algorithm. Then according to the result of function optimization, it can be seen that IBA has a significant improvement in convergence speed and accuracy. Finally, IBA was used to optimize ELM, and a customer churn prediction model was established. The empirical results show that the predictive model proposed in this paper can effectively identify lost customers and lay a foundation for improving the competitiveness of the telecommunications industry in the future. In the current study, our goal was to obtain a robust model to predict the speed of sound in biodiesel. For this purpose, an extensive databank has been extracted from previously published papers. Then, a Support Vector Machine (SVM) has been optimized by Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) method to analyze these data and determine the correlation between speed of sound in biodiesel and its related properties including pressure, temperature, molecular weight, and normal melting point. The results were very satisfactory because the values of statistical parameters R 2 and RMSE were obtained 1 and 1.4024, respectively. Here, this is the first time that the sensitivity analysis is used to estimate this target value. This analysis shows that the pressure widely affects the output values with relevancy factor 87.92. Objective. Internet of Things (IoT) integrates several technologies where devices learn from the experience of each other thereby reducing human-intervened likely errors. Modern technologies like IoT and machine learning enable the conventional to patient-specific approach transition in healthcare. In conventional approach, the biggest challenge faced by healthcare professionals is to predict a disease by observing the symptoms, monitoring the remote area patient, and also attending to the patient all the time after being hospitalised. IoT provides real-time data, makes decision-making smarter, and provides far superior analytics, and all these to help improve the quality of healthcare. The main objective of the work was to create an IoT-based automated system using machine learning models for symptom-based COVID-19 prognosis. Methods. Comparative analysis of predictive microbiology of COVID-19 from case symptoms using various machine learning classifiers like logistics regression, k-nearest neighbor, support vector machine, random forest, decision trees, Naïve Bayes, and gradient booster is reported here. For the sake of the validation and verification of the models, performance of each model based on the retrieved cloud-stored data was measured for accuracy. Results. From the accuracy plot, it was concluded that k-NN was more accurate (97.97%) followed by decision tree (97.79), support vector machine (97.42), logistics regression (96.50), random forest (90.66), gradient boosting classifier (87.77), and Naïve Bayes (73.50) in COVID-19 prognosis. Conclusion. The paper presents a health monitoring IoT framework having high clinical significance in real-time and remote healthcare monitoring. There are many thyroid diseases affecting people all over the world. Many diseases affect the thyroid gland, like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer. Thyroid inefficiency can cause severe symptoms in patients. Effective classification and machine learning play a significant role in the timely detection of thyroid diseases. This timely classification will indeed affect the timely treatment of the patients. Automatic and precise thyroid nodule detection in ultrasound pictures is critical for reducing effort and radiologists' mistake rate. Medical images have evolved into one of the most valuable and consistent data sources for machine learning generation. In this paper, various machine learning algorithms like decision tree, random forest algorithm, KNN, and artificial neural networks on the dataset create a comparative analysis to better predict the disease based on parameters established from the dataset. Also, the dataset has been manipulated for accurate prediction for the classification. The classification was performed on both the sampled and unsampled datasets for better comparison of the dataset. To observe the clinical efficacy of early enteral nutrition application in critically ill neurosurgical patients, in this paper, we have developed a prediction model for enteral nutrition support in neurosurgical intensive care patients which is primarily based on an integrated learning algorithm. Additionally, we have compared the prediction performance of each model. The patients were divided into control and combined treatment groups according to the random number table method, and 175 patients in each group were treated with a parenteral method and early enteral nutrition support, respectively. A reentry ICU prediction model based on the integrated learning method random forest, adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) was developed, and the prediction performance of integrated learning and logistic regression was compared. The average sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, false-positive rate, false-negative rate, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), and Brier score after fivefold cross-validation were used to evaluate model effects, and the best performance model based on the top 10 predictor variables in order of importance was given. Among all models, GBDT (AUROC = 0.858) was better than random forest (AUROC = 0.827) and slightly better than AdaBoost (AUROC = 0.851). The GBDT algorithm gave a higher ranking of importance for variables such as mean arterial pressure, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, urine volume, and blood creatinine and relatively poorer cardiovascular and renal function in neurosurgical intensive care patients. In this paper, we develop a healthcare biclustering model in the field of healthcare to reduce the inconveniences linked to the data clustering on gene expression. The present study uses two separate healthcare biclustering approaches to identify specific gene activity in certain environments and remove the duplication of broad gene information components. Moreover, because of its adequacy in the problem where populations of potential solutions allow exploration of a greater portion of the research area, machine learning or heuristic algorithm has become extensively used for healthcare biclustering in the field of healthcare. The study is evaluated in terms of average match score for nonoverlapping modules, overlapping modules through the influence of noise for constant bicluster and additive bicluster, and the run time. The results show that proposed FCM blustering method has higher average match score, and reduced run time proposed FCM than the existing PSO-SA and fuzzy logic healthcare biclustering methods. Artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning have been applied to protein engineering, with unique advantages in protein structure, function prediction, catalytic activity, and other issues in recent years. Screening better mutants is still a bottleneck in protein engineering. In this paper, a new sequence-activity relationship method was analyzed for its application in improving the thermal stability of Aspergillus terreus (R)-ω-selective amine transaminase. The experimental data from 6 single-point mutated enzymes were used as a learning dataset to build models and predict the thermostability of 26 mutants. Based on digital signal processing (DSP), this method digitized the amino acid sequence of proteins by fast Fourier transform (FFT) and then established the best model applying partial least squares regression (PLSR) to screen out all possible mutants, especially those with high performance. In protein engineering, the innovative sequence activity relationship (ISAR) method can make a reasonable prediction using limited experimental data and significantly reduce the experimental cost. The half-life ( T 1 / 2 ) of (R)-ω-transaminase was fitted with the amino acid sequence by the ISAR algorithm, resulting in an R 2 of 0.8929 and a cvRMSE of 4.89. At the same time, the mutants with higher T 1 / 2 than the existing ones were predicted, laying the groundwork for better (R)-ω-transaminase in the later stage. With the concept of sustainable development, enterprises are facing severe challenges in ecological protection and economic development. Approaches to improving effectiveness of the coordinated development strategy must continue to evolve to address uncertainty and hazards that may be encountered in the future. We propose a coordinated development strategy model based on the combination of soft fuzzy and rough set theory and construct its prediction model. For the multistrategy dataset in the paper, parameter for each kind shall be selected through converting the multistrategy data into two prediction datasets. An algorithm transformed by SFRC shall be subject to weighted average for each parameter. Furthermore, we use training methods and soft fuzzy rough sets' learning algorithm to calculate, and the evaluating indicator rough set is constructed with a three-tier model structure. After the final rough set training is completed, test results show that the rough set model which has a higher rating accuracy builds a better completed business performance evaluation. By comparing the prediction effect, both SVM algorithm and multistrategy prediction model for the soft fuzzy rough set in the paper can realize effective prediction for the enterprise's coordinated development strategy. Moreover, the prediction result obtained at the time of adopting boundary to get the expected value is superior to that of giving one fixed threshold. It shows that the prediction performance of the algorithm in the paper is more excellent and represents the advantage of the algorithm prediction performance at the time of adopting boundary to get the expected value. Background and Aim: Gastric cancer (GC) is the common leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Immune-related genes (IRGs) may potentially predict lymph node metastasis (LNM). We aimed to develop a preoperative model to predict LNM based on these IRGs. Methods: In this paper, we compared and evaluated three machine learning models to predict LNM based on publicly available gene expression data from TCGA-STAD. The Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) method was utilized to feature selection according to its relationships with LN status. The performance of the model was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC) and F1 score. Results: The Naive Bayesian model showed better performance and was constructed based on 26 selected gene features, with AUCs of 0.741 in the training set and 0.688 in the test set. The F1 score in the training set and test set was 0.652 and 0.597, respectively. Furthermore, Naive Bayesian model based on 26 IRGs is the first diagnostic tool for the identification of LNM in advanced GC. Functional connectivity MRI (fcMRI) is a technique used to study the functional connectedness of distinct regions of the brain by measuring the temporal correlation between their blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) signals. fcMRI is typically measured with the Pearson correlation (PC), which assumes that there is no lag between time series. Dynamic time warping (DTW) is an alternative measure of similarity between time series that is robust to such time lags. We used PC fcMRI data and DTW fcMRI data as predictors in machine learning models for classifying autism spectrum disorder (ASD). When combined with dimension reduction techniques, such as principal component analysis, functional connectivity estimated with DTW showed greater predictive ability than functional connectivity estimated with PC. Our results suggest that DTW fcMRI can be a suitable alternative measure that may be characterizing fcMRI in a different, but complementary, way to PC fcMRI that is worth continued investigation. In studying different variants of cross validation (CV), our results suggest that, when it is necessary to tune model hyperparameters and assess model performance at the same time, a K -fold CV nested within leave-one-out CV may be a competitive contender in terms of performance and computational speed, especially when sample size is not large. Background. There is a narrow therapeutic window for sodium valproate, and the blood concentration is too low to control epilepsy, while it is easy to poison the body if the concentration is too high. It is therefore necessary to monitor drug concentration reasonably in order to control epilepsy. The purpose of this study was to establish a model for predicting concentrations of sodium valproate below 50 μg/mL in children with epilepsy. Methods. The clinical data and biochemical examination results of children with epilepsy treated in the pediatric outpatient department of our hospital from June 2019 to March 2022 were retrospectively collected and divided into a development group and a validation group according to a patient ratio of 8 to 2. Five machine learning algorithms were used to identify the key variable factors, and a risk prediction model for sodium valproate blood concentrations lower than the standard concentration was established. The area under the curve (AUC), calibration curve, GiViTi calibration band, and clinical influence curve were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy and clinical application value of the model. Results. A total of 525 children with epilepsy were enrolled. In the development group, the random forest algorithm performed best in predicting that the blood concentration of sodium valproate was lower than the standard concentration, showing the highest AUC (1.00). Six factors were determined as a nomogram to predict the incidence of low concentrations. In the validation group and the development group, the calibration curve, GiViTi calibration band, and clinical influence curve all performed well in the evaluation of the diagnostic efficacy and clinical application value of the model. Background. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a heterogeneous non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with great clinical challenge. Machine learning (ML) has attracted substantial attention in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases. This study is aimed at exploring the prognostic factors of DLBCL by ML. Methods. In total, 1211 DLBCL patients were retrieved from Huaihai Lymphoma Working Group (HHLWG). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and random forest algorithm were used to identify prognostic factors for the overall survival (OS) rate of DLBCL among twenty-five variables. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) were utilized to compare the predictive performance and clinical effectiveness of the two models, respectively. Results. The median follow-up time was 43.4 months, and the 5-year OS was 58.5%. The LASSO model achieved an Area under the curve (AUC) of 75.8% for the prognosis of DLBCL, which was higher than that of the random forest model (AUC: 71.6%). DCA analysis also revealed that the LASSO model could augment net benefits and exhibited a wider range of threshold probabilities by risk stratification than the random forest model. In addition, multivariable analysis demonstrated that age, white blood cell count, hemoglobin, central nervous system involvement, gender, and Ann Arbor stage were independent prognostic factors for DLBCL. The LASSO model showed better discrimination of outcomes compared with the IPI and NCCN-IPI models and identified three groups of patients: low risk, high-intermediate risk, and high risk. Subcellular localization attempts to assign proteins to one of the cell compartments that performs specific biological functions. Finding the link between proteins, biological functions, and subcellular localization is an effective way to investigate the general organization of living cells in a systematic manner. However, determining the subcellular localization of proteins by traditional experimental approaches is difficult. Here, protein–protein interaction networks, functional enrichment on gene ontology and pathway, and a set of proteins having confirmed subcellular localization were applied to build prediction models for human protein subcellular localizations. To build an effective predictive model, we employed a variety of robust machine learning algorithms, including Boruta feature selection, minimum redundancy maximum relevance, Monte Carlo feature selection, and LightGBM. Then, the incremental feature selection method with random forest and support vector machine was used to discover the essential features. Furthermore, 38 key features were determined by integrating results of different feature selection methods, which may provide critical insights into the subcellular location of proteins. Their biological functions of subcellular localizations were discussed according to recent publications. In summary, our computational framework can help advance the understanding of subcellular localization prediction techniques and provide a new perspective to investigate the patterns of protein subcellular localization and their biological importance. We present our data-driven supervised machine-learning (ML) model to predict heat load for buildings in a district heating system (DHS). Even though ML has been used as an approach to heat load prediction in literature, it is hard to select an approach that will qualify as a solution for our case as existing solutions are quite problem specific. For that reason, we compared and evaluated three ML algorithms within a framework on operational data from a DH system in order to generate the required prediction model. The algorithms examined are Support Vector Regression (SVR), Partial Least Square (PLS), and random forest (RF). We use the data collected from buildings at several locations for a period of 29 weeks. Concerning the accuracy of predicting the heat load, we evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms using mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and correlation coefficient. In order to determine which algorithm had the best accuracy, we conducted performance comparison among these ML algorithms. The comparison of the algorithms indicates that, for DH heat load prediction, SVR method presented in this paper is the most efficient one out of the three also compared to other methods found in the literature. The accurate prediction of surface settlement caused by large-diameter shield tunneling is crucial for the safety of the tunnel environment. However, due to the complexity and uncertainty of the rock-machine interaction and groundwater variation, it is difficult to predict the settlement by developing traditional theoretical methods. Recently, a big number of data obtained from the Chunfeng shield tunnel in China provides the possibility to predict the settlement using machine-learning methods. In this study, the equipment parameters, the geological parameters, and the monitored settlements are used to establish the models. Three machine-learning algorithms (i.e., long-short-term memory (LSTM), random forest (RF), and gated recurrent unit (GRU)) are used to predict the surface settlement. Three indicators, mean absolute error (MAE), accuracy (ACC), and coefficient of determination ( R 2 ), are selected to evaluate the prediction performance. Results demonstrated that the filtering and selection of model parameters is vitally important to the accuracy of model prediction. Among the three machine-learning algorithms, the LSTM algorithm gives the best accuracy in predicting the maximum surface settlement and can effectively predict the settlement development in different strata. After primary treatment of localized prostate carcinoma (PC), up to a third of patients have disease recurrence. Different predictive models have already been used either for initial stratification of PC patients or to predict disease recurrence. Recently, artificial intelligence has been introduced in the diagnosis and management of PC with a potential to revolutionize this field. The aim of this study was to analyze machine learning (ML) classifiers in order to predict disease progression in the moment of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) elevation during follow-up. The study cohort consisted of 109 PC patients treated with external beam radiotherapy alone or in combination with androgen deprivation therapy. We developed and evaluated the performance of two ML algorithms based on artificial neural networks (ANN) and naïve Bayes (NB). Of all patients, 72.5% was randomly selected for a training set while the remaining patients were used for testing of the models. The presence/absence of disease progression was defined as the output variable. The input variables for models were conducted from the univariate analysis preformed among two groups of patients in the training set. They included two pretreatment variables (UICC stage and Gleason's score risk group) and five posttreatment variables (nadir PSA, time to nadir PSA, PSA doubling time, PSA velocity, and PSA in the moment of disease reevaluation). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and predictive accuracy was calculated to test the models' performance. The results showed that specificity was similar for both models, while NB achieved better sensitivity then ANN (100.0% versus 94.4%). The ANN showed an accuracy of 93.3%, and the matching for NB model was 96.7%. In practical engineerings, structures are often excited by different kinds of loads at the same time. How to effectively analyze and simulate this kind of dynamic environment of structure, named combined dynamic environment, is one of the key issues. In this paper, a novel prediction method of combined dynamic environment is proposed from the perspective of data analysis. First, the existence of dynamic similarity between vibration responses of the same structure under different boundary conditions is theoretically proven. It is further proven that this similarity can be established by a multiple-input multiple-output regression model. Second, two machine learning algorithms, multiple-dimensional support vectormachine and extreme learningmachine, are introduced to establish thismodel. To test the effectiveness of this method, shock and stochastic white noise excitations are acted on a cylindrical shell with two clamps to simulate different dynamic environments. The prediction errors on variousmeasuring points are all less than ±3 dB, which shows that the proposed method can predict the structural vibration response under one boundary condition by means of the response under another condition in terms of precision and numerical stability. The intrusion prediction for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is an unresolved problem. Hence, the current intrusion detection schemes cannot provide enough security for WSNs, which poses a number of security challenges in WSNs. In many missioncritical applications, such as battle field, even though the intrusion detection systems (IDSs) without prediction capability could detect the malicious activities afterwards, the damages to the WSNs have been generated and could hardly be restored. In addition, sensor nodes usually are resource constrained, which limits the direct adoption of expensive intrusion prediction algorithm. To address the above challenges, we propose an intelligent intrusion prediction scheme that is able to enforce accurate intrusion prediction. The proposed scheme exploits a novel three-layer brain-like hierarchical learning framework, tailors, and adapts it for WSNs with both performance and security requirements. The implementation system of the proposed scheme is designed based on agent technology. Moreover, an attack experiment is done for getting training and test data set. Experiment results show that the proposed scheme has several advantages in terms of efficiency of implementation and high prediction rate. Objective. To establish a machine learning model for identifying patients coinfected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through two sexual transmission routes in Jiangsu, China. Methods. A total of 14197 HIV cases transmitted by homosexual and heterosexual routes were recruited. After data processing, 12469 cases (HIV and HBV, 1033; HIV, 11436) were left for further analysis, including 7849 cases with homosexual transmission and 4620 cases with heterosexual transmission. Univariate logistic regression was used to select variables with significant P value and odds ratio for multivariable analysis. In homosexual transmission and heterosexual transmission groups, 10 and 6 variables were selected, respectively. For identifying HIV individuals coinfected with HBV, a machine learning model was constructed with four algorithms, including Decision Tree, Random Forest, AdaBoost with decision tree (AdaBoost), and extreme gradient boosting decision tree (XGBoost). The detective value of each variable was calculated using the optimal machine learning algorithm. Results. AdaBoost algorithm showed the highest efficiency in both transmission groups (homosexual transmission group: accuracy = 0.928 , precision = 0.915 , recall = 0.944 , F − 1 = 0.930 , and AUC = 0.96 ; heterosexual transmission group: accuracy = 0.892 , precision = 0.881 , recall = 0.905 , F − 1 = 0.893 , and AUC = 0.98). Calculated by AdaBoost algorithm, the detective value of PLA was the highest in homosexual transmission group, followed by CR, AST, HB, ALT, TBIL, leucocyte, age, marital status, and treatment condition; in the heterosexual transmission group, the detective value of PLA was the highest (consistent with the condition in the homosexual group), followed by ALT, AST, TBIL, leucocyte, and symptom severity. Conclusions. The univariate logistics regression combined with the AdaBoost algorithm could accurately screen the risk factors of HBV in HIV coinfection without invasive testing. Oncogene is a special type of genes, which can promote the tumor initiation. Good study on oncogenes is helpful for understanding the cause of cancers. Experimental techniques in early time are quite popular in detecting oncogenes. However, their defects become more and more evident in recent years, such as high cost and long time. The newly proposed computational methods provide an alternative way to study oncogenes, which can provide useful clues for further investigations on candidate genes. Considering the limitations of some previous computational methods, such as lack of learning procedures and terming genes as individual subjects, a novel computational method was proposed in this study. The method adopted the features derived from multiple protein networks, viewing proteins in a system level. A classic machine learning algorithm, random forest, was applied on these features to capture the essential characteristic of oncogenes, thereby building the prediction model. All genes except validated oncogenes were ranked with a measurement yielded by the prediction model. Top genes were quite different from potential oncogenes discovered by previous methods, and they can be confirmed to become novel oncogenes.
